Clemson Offense
—Clemson likes to run a lot of screens. With Deion Cain, they’d fake the bubble outside and use his speed to take the top off of a defense. With him out, it hurts their cause, but there are other guys who can play.
—I like the Renfrow kid. He’s a true freshman receiver who seems to make tough catches. He’s a guy who isn’t a burner, but is a smart player who will make the blue collar catches to keep the chains moving.
—Speaking of true freshmen, Mitch Hyatt is the starter at left tackle for the Tigers. He’s a really good player and has all the tools to be a great one. He’s technically sound and very smart. He’ll be a draft pick in a few years.
—Wayne Gallman is a gazelle. He has top end sprinters speed at the tailback position. He’s not very elusive, but if he gets some daylight, he can get north and south as well as anyone. He’s a guy who gets stronger as the game goes on, but he doesn’t get a lot of carries. He gets only about 20 carries a game and has rushed for a little over 1,300 yards this year.
—Deshaun Watson is the reason that Gallman doesn’t get more carries. While Gallman totes it 20 times a game, Watson gets it for about 13. It seems like there are a lot of automatic calls that they allow Watson to make. Against Notre Dame when Watson recognized man coverage in against a front that only had four down linemen and one linebacker shaded to the slot, he wasted no time running an automatic draw. It went big on the first play of the game for them. They also use him to run their version of what the Sooners used to do with Blake Bell in the Belldozer formation. Watson isn’t a blazer, but he’s plenty fast enough to keep D-Coordinators up at night. He’s also very accurate as a passer completing right at 70% of his passes he throws it for about 270 a game and runs it for another 68 on the ground. Everything starts and finishes with Watson. Evans, Alexander and Striker will be critical in limiting him. Like Baker Mayfield, he is the x factor in their offense that makes it go.
—Turnovers are something that surprised me about this Clemson team. They fumbled 23 times(almost twice a game) losing 12 of them, and threw 13 interceptions for 25 turnovers total. Defensively they got 14 picks and recovered 9 fumbles for 23 total. I don’t know if I’ve seen an undefeated team with a minus two turnover margin.
—Their kickoff coverage unit is the weakness in their armor if there is one. Like the Sooners in 2008, they will give up an occasional big return, and have had 2 run back for scores this year. Alex Ross could be the x-factor in this game.
—Artavis Scott is probably their best receiver. He’s a physical clone of Sterling Shepard, although he may be just a little less explosive than Shepard, he’s still a dang good player. He’s the go to guy for Watson in the pass game.
—Jordan Leggett is a matchup nightmare for defenses at tight end. He’s a lot like Mark Andrews. He can run like a receiver, and has great hands. They’ll line him up as an H-Back, in the slot or like a conventional tight end. He can definitely hurt you down the seam, and in the play action game.
—The overall offensive line is mixed with young talent like Mitch Hyatt, and a few guys who have been around a while. Oddly enough, their offensive line in terms of experience is very similar to that of Oklahoma’s. A couple of young studs mixed with some solid veterans who have been around a while. While they are are a very solid unit, they’re not an overpowering unit that is going to mash you in the run game a lot like an Alabama likes to do. They’re going to scheme you, formation you, and try to catch you out of position. If you line up wrong, or give them a numbers advantage they will gash you. The read option and screens are their bread and butter. In order to do those things you have to be athletic. You have to get up to the second level in the option game, and you have to get out and block people on screens. They’ve got a nice mix of power inside and athletes on the edges like you like to see.
—If I had to compare them to an offense the Sooners have faced this year, it would probably be TCU. Fortunately the guys didn’t have to face Trevyone Boykin, but Watson is a lot like him. They’ve got a couple of really good receivers and enough speed to hurt you with big plays. They’re not going to run the ball as well as a Baylor does, and I don’t think they’ll be able to overpower any of the four teams they could potentially face in the playoffs. Going back to turnovers, not to sound like Jimmy Johnson of the 93 cowboys talking about the Bills, I think they’ll turn it over. I think the speed at all three levels of the Sooner defense could potentially give them problems. The Sooners will have to be disciplined in coverage, in the option game, and make plays when they are there to be made. Most importantly, the Sooners will have to make tackles in space. When Clemson hurts you, it’s when you turn Watson loose on a scramble or on a read option, or when they break tackles and go the distance on a screen or a long run like the bowl game last year. Overall i’d give a slight edge to the Sooners IF they’re dialed in and have done their homework.
Clemson Defense
—Shaq Lawson is the best defensive end that Orlando Brown will have faced this year. At 6’3″ 270, he’s not the biggest guy, but he’s just one of those players that can make it happen. He’s a guy that could play a rush linebacker in a 3-4 in the NFL. He’ll be looking to make a statement in this game, but with Orlando’s pedigree, I think that he’ll be looking to get his name out there too. It’s definitely a matchup I’m gonna keep an eye on.
—On the interior of their d-line they go 6’3″ 300 & 325, and very, very active. They play hard and they get upfield in a hurry trying to disrupt the other team. They’re really good players, so Alvarez, Darlington and Kasitati will have to play low and physical with these guys to cut off penetration and not let the pocket get squeezed. I did notice that they got a little bit tired at times and as a result weren’t quite as edgy. If they can get penetration it’s going to be a long night. OU likes to run so many counters and zone plays that if these guys can get an upfield push, then the offense will have a hard time moving the ball.
—Kevin Dodd is the guy that Dru Samia will be facing on the right side. The strong side defensive end is just that. Bigger than Shaq Lawson at 6’5″ 275, he has a big physical presence on the edge of their defense. Like the rest of these guys, he can run. If anything you can use his height against him if you catch him playing too high.
—The heart and soul of their defense to me is middle linebacker Ben Boulware. A highly touted recruit coming out of high school, Ben goes 6’0″ and 240. He’s big and physical, while being able to run. For Sooners fans think of a healthy Ryan Reynolds or Austin Box (RIP). He’s emotional, smart and nasty. Last year against the Sooners he had a pick 6 on an ill advised throw. He’s a guy who is going to do his homework and it shows in his play. The guys will have to block him on every play and definitely account for him. He can hurt you in blitz situations, he tackles in space, and he can come downhill and be a thumper. He may be looking to lay a lick on Samaje Perine to send a message. It’ll be a good matchup.
—On the Sooners side, while they’re at a -2 on the season for turnovers, the Sooners are at a +10. The Sooners to this point in the year have definitely taken better care of the ball than the Tigers, and not to sound too cliche’, whoever makes the least mistakes in this one will win.
—As far as mistakes go, like most Venables defenses I’ve seen, I think the middle of the field will be an area that can be attacked. If for no other reason than how much he likes to blitz the safeties and move the linebackers around, it creates a natural void there in the middle. Subsequently, if you can pick up the blitz well in the run game, you can pop some big gainers if you can get a hat on a hat and stop the upfield penetration.
—Athletically they’re a lot like Tennessee. They’ve got those down south country boys who seem to grow on trees, and all of em can run. With how active they are, they’re a lot like TCU, Texas and Baylor in how they come at you from a lot of different angles. We all know that Texas gave the Sooners fits, but the key to all of that is just blocking them. If the Sooners are shut down early, it’ll be hard to come back against them because Clemson’s offense is a lot better than Tennessee’s.
—Their secondary has some holes in it. Not because of athleticism or anything, but because of the style of play that they employ. They’ll let you catch the ball, but then tackle you. They try to make the big play and create negative plays. If it’s over 3rd and 6, then here comes a blitz. Venables wants to get the QB in a situation where he has to make a quick decision. Then he’s banking on you making the wrong one.
—Finally I think OU is going to have to wait a few plays or maybe even a possession or two to see who prepared better. Barring a game changing early mistake by either team, I think that athletically and size wise, the Sooners may need a second to adjust to their athleticism. I think the guys can hang with them and beat them IF they play sound fundamentally and pick up the stunts and blitzes. They can’t drop passes, jump offsides, have holding penalties etc. Establishing the run game will be the difference in this game. If Perine and Mixon get going it’ll be tough on them. If they can shut them down it’ll be the other way around. I look for someone to come up big who you don’t hear about a lot. Maybe a Mark Andrews or a DeDe Westbrook might be someone who steps to the forefront.
I don’t usually like to offer up a prediction but in this case I will do so. Final score prediction:
Sooners 35
Clemson 24
571 Comments
Nice, thank you sir
What are your score predictions?
Triumph – OU
Despair – Clemson
I’m way too nervous to even say
41-31 BOOMER
I’m going with 35-27, with Perine and Mixon taking over in the 4th quarter.
24-21, OU
I think we ramp up the tempo in this one. Clemson’s defense is very vulnerable to tempo in the tape I’ve watched and they get confused and out of position easily. I think Perine and Mixon will re-aggravate some of their bumps and bruises and Strike will have a field day with their young OT.
OU 38
Clemson 27
I seem to recall tempo being the bane of Venables defenses here. Very cerebral.
I don’t recall his problems being with tempo. I recall his zone defenses getting shredded up the seam and on drag routes constantly and his secondary having multiple coverage busts in big games.
That’s what I remember…and screens.
Yep! And largely ineffective blitzing schemes.
V ran some complicated schemes. When Travis Lewis got to the Lions, he said grasping their defense was much easier than learning Venables’.
Thanks JY – most appreciated.
OU – 36
Tiggers – 24
Same as the 2003 aTm game.
Typically I don’t make predictions for many reasons.
But for you and because you asked:
OU-55
CU-23
If I had to bet money, well…let’s just say I should keep my negative nancy thoughts to myself. On a good note, I had a bad feeling about the Baylor game too. Hopefully that’s a good sign.
Sooners – 42
Tiggers – 28
OU – Eleventy
Clempsun – 2.3716
OU 38
Clemson 34
Late 4th qtr come back
Precisely what I think as well.
55-27 OU
OU 31 Clem 17
BTW, thanks JY, excellent as always
Great breakdown JY. I’m cautiously optimistic too about the game. If we can establish the run then turn out the lights Clemson, the party is over. I like the good guys to really get the run game going in the second half by wearing down a D in which BV doesn’t like to substitute much (if at all). I see us pulling away late for a 42-35 OU victory.
Thanks for this, JY. I’ll take Perine in the Perine-Boulware match-up all night. I’m not nearly as impressed with the dude (Boulware). Nasty, sure. But athletically he’s Barney Rubble with a bad tattoo.
I just hope the two teams do the meet-at-the-50, mass trash-talking throng thing. Draw the battle lines, boys! Rattle your angry bones, and let Zeus eat!
I was reading earlier today, one of their player leaders stated that they didn’t finish well during games later in the season. I like JY’s take on the middle being open (typical Brent), and the tempo is gonna weigh heavy on those nasties on the D line later in the game. I don’t think they have had to deal with a team running 80+ plays/game. Good read JY, thanks bud.
Not one game over 80 plays.. They averaged 60-65 for year.
7/13 games outscored in 4th
Don’t abandon the run game.
Pound the rock all game long.
Tempo tempo tempo.
Pickup the blitz and burn it
Down the B12 stretch, OU played from behind early and that would not surprise me. The OU players are tighter and tougher than years past and will weather the early storm. Hoping ‘The Schmidt’ and Miss Tiff have the guys physically prepared to turn it up and dominate in the late 3rd/4th and pull away as lack of depth for Clemson will begin to show.
That’s one thing, that kept coming out of practices, was they wanted to start really fast, keep up the tempo and gas the kitties.
Am sure. As JY said, early rounds are testing each other. If OU can get ‘up’ and keep up the tempo, it could wear Clemson down earlier. Had read their D front was thin and banged up the last few games. Think OU will own the 4th and be fine if the OU D doesn’t bust too many plays peeking at Watson.
I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned in the article. They have not faced a “true” high tempo offense. If we can keep them from substituting by mixing plays, we can capitalize alot
I agree. Suspect OU falls behind early as they work to get a handle on Watson, but we begin to grind down their D line midway through the third, and Perine and Mixon start to hurt them with long runs. OU wins a very exciting come from behind game, 38-34.
“Shaq Lawson is the best defensive end that Orlando Brown will have faced this year. At 6’3″ 270…”
Now hold on a second there, JY. Baylor has Oakman and he is 6’9,” can jump real good and has fabulous abs? 🙂
Thanks for your insights, big guy.
Haha, I don’t think Oakman made a tackle all year. Looks scary tho
No he’s more of a hit them after they are already down, in the middle of back kind of tackler.
I pretty sure he killed a poor little punter though.
WICKED GOOD BOX JUMPER.
I’ve always been a “graphic novel” fan.
https://twitter.com/ESPNCFB/status/682334456959512578
I like that upper-cut OUr pony is getting ready to land.
Thanks JY, great insight.
Along the lines of what ET was stating below, in your opinion, who is the best OT that Shaq Lawson has faced this year? Anyone of Orlando Brown caliber?
Prediction:
SOONERS- 41
Kittens- 31
The FSU tackle is pretty good and did a good job on Lawson. Lawson is not really a speed guy, but he has a nasty spin move Brown will have to be ready for. Pro scouts think Lawson is a first rounder, so he’e very talented. But, Brown has strength and length that will help him. Mayfield needs to be aware of Lawson.
Stanley, from Notre Dame, will be playing on Sundays next year. I have no idea how he and O compare.
Do you know how well Stanley did against Lawson?
I didn’t see the game, can’t answer to that, I do know he is projected by some to go in the top 15 draft picks. (Stanley)
Here’s a game by game for Lawson (excluding their last two games):
NC State has a really good LT.
Maybe this will help you bud.
http://espn.go.com/college-football/undefined
I would say OU Offense theme”is once we score it’s on” they feel they should score everytime they get the ball. Personally I think this entire team knows they still have not played a complete game yet. That is thier Focus, to play thier best game BOOMER.
You touched on what I think will be key for us, turnovers and returns. Points off kicks, fumble returns, and picks can demoralize a team. I expect (or hope) Ross has a huge day with their short kicks and poor coverage. Thanks again JY, 45-24 good guys.
Looking back on this team’s season, it has certainly been run on in a few games. There is no question that they have great athletes, as pretty much most upper tier schools get, but I don’t see them as true world beaters…..yet. They could surprise though. And I still think back to 78′, when Switzer should have won his third NC. Arkie loses three players and still smacks us up side the head. Should be a good one and sure hope your prediction is correct, JY. I see it as less than a TD either way.
I don’t recall many times OU really went after the middle of the field. Sounds like a good time to run some seem routes with Mixon and Andrews.
Yep, Clemson has also been vulnerable to wheel routes this year as well.
Love the review. Thanks!
From my review of Clemson, I agree. Their D is good, and Lawson is a wrecking machine. We better scheme forbhim. Clemson O is very good and can run (QB amd RB) and can throw.
Agree that if we play clean, we win. +2 for TO will be the difference maker.
SOONERS 31 Clemson 27
I think the OU defense is going to shine so I’ll say OU wins 31-14.
If the gut of their defense is a liability, I expect Mixon and Andrews to have big days. The fake zone read to Samaje where Mixon releases down the middle should be a huge play for OU tomorrow.
Might add that Venebles is very, very familiar with OU’s style of offense. He absolutely shut Texas Tech down in 2008 and had decent success against Oklahoma State offenses which i think were variations of the air raid offense.
Its a lot easier to shut down an air raid offense or any offense for that matter when you have superior talent which was the case when Venebles was at OU vs those teams. Now he’ll be facing equal talent to what he has. It should be very interesting to say the least.
This. Under Leach TT never had the talent we had. Sure they had individual match ups where they were better but on the whole we had better talent. Any scheme works better when you have a talent advantage.
with all due respect- those teams did not have a duo like Perine and Mixon
True. But Venebles has been good often enough with confusing quarterbacks. I think the Clemson defense is very much like Baylor’s in terms of style and to some degree personnel. Perine and Mixon can shred them for sure.
Or a QB that was mobile like Mayfield.
OU’s offense is nothing like either of those offenses and Venables never won a single game in Lubbock.
Not sure you can say “nothing like” either of them. They both have a simplifies play book and a lot of the routes fluid based on what the defense does after the ball is snapped- in other words a lot of on the fly decision making. This is probably why TK struggled so much since he has a tendency to decide where he is going with the ball before its even snapped.
I agree that Venebles has his hands full with OU’s offense. Lord help them if the OU wagon get to rolling.
Now hold on, they really aren’t anything alike. Tech had one adequate RB and their QB was not a threat to run.
Coaches add their own variations but the “bones” seem similar. Tech could run the ball in 2008 albeit the QB didn’t run. Zac Robinson could run for OSU and they used to have a serviceable run game. LR has definitely created a new hybrid of air raid offense that is more like what Briles built at Baylor than what Leach ran at Taco Tech.
The pokes offense has more similarities to Riley’s sans a great running game, but certainly not Leach’s.
Riley ran a very TT/Washington State version of the Leach offense when he was at ECU. I like that he adapted the offense to put to use the strengths of his personnel rathe than bang square pegs into round holes. I expect him to show us something new at the bowl game.
If clemson does what we expect them to do, I expect we will see some things we(and clemson) have not seen.
Our offense is closer to Ohio State’s than it is to either OSU or Tech IMO.
Perhaps with OU putting less stock in the QB run game that Ohio State does. OU does have a “power” element that Tech has never come close to developing.
I think they put less stock in the QB run game because they don’t have a true dual threat running QB. I’d expect that to change after Baker leaves.
Or Baylor in 2011.
Further down on this thread many of you mentioned predictions that are key for OU success, the biggest key is OU’s run game. If OU can move the chains and keep the Clemson defense on the field then I think they wither in the late second quarter and fourth quarter. OU likely wins if OU has a better than average rushing performance and Baker has a mediocre passing game without turnovers of course. I don’t think this OU team has peaked yet.
My emotions are shot. I have felt anxious, calm, confident, reluctant, with butterflies. I feel like a crack addict waiting on my next fix. I’m gonna need a lot of beer tomorrow just to relax
I just got to Miami so im ready to go!! …..After a nap of course.
Be lOUd
YESSIR
And cautious, I hear tensions are high- keep us posted.
Be careful…Miami can be a war zone.
Still waiting to hear about the kerfuffle at the luncheon.
Havent heard anything yet.
You ever read the “Road Warrior” reports?
He does one for every road game.
Reports one and two in order.

Oh no I havent…thanks! There are a ton of OU at Miami intl’. So far one Clemsa fan.
Probably have their pickemup truck caravan ready to roll.
Check the RV parks.
…and the WalMart parking lots.
No such luck…theyre in my hotel…
Work the phones and bang on doors ALL night! 🙂
Will do…I think OU player guests are staying here too so Im sure we outnumber them!
Remember to rack the elevator buttons before you get out. 🙂
I wonder if they’ll be able to tear themselves away from the wonder of indoor plumbing long enough to watch the game.
why wait? start now
no kidding. Isn’t KJ like 21 or something? Don’t need no stinkin’ nap!!! Just sleep in to 9 AM tomorrow morning.
I have to work in the morning
From crack to beer? But I hear you about being worn out to a degree…waiting is a bear sometimes. Have my two liter bottle of Dr. Pepper in the fridge.
I think Alex Ross might have his best game all year, but I hope he doesn’t get a lot of chances. The Clemson kicker responsible for kick offs was one of the ones sent home I believe. On offense, I think Mayfield could get some big runs off the bootleg or scramble. Just hope he stays healthy. LR biggest chance to show what he can do with the time he has had to put a game plan together with a few wrinkles. On defense, OU has a history of problems facing a QB who can run and throw. Some were from Venable’s defenses who we can exploit with Mayfield, but MS has had problems as well. Our DB’s get locked on the receivers and turn their backs which can mean big plays for Watson. Hopefully we will have some wrinkles he has never seen before. At least have someone who can spy him. I think MS has a better sense of his players this year and they have responded pretty well. JT has also improved quite a bit in his coverage. I think the 35-24 prediction is spot on.
Na the kicker that was sent home lost his starting job earlier during the season on drug problems if I remember correctly. He was just a back up
It was reported that he was their kick-off guy.
he is/was- not too many touchbacks either, his replacement, even fewer- chances for Ross
just don’t fumble the rock!!!!
and open your eyes maybe
…and don’t get caught from behind ever again.
That was a tad unexpected from our former track star wasn’t it? Must have had the flu for Christmasss- wasn’t feeeeling up to par. Or was that about cutting my hair?
That had been a point of pride since he was in high school, that no one ever caught him from behind. I was shocked.
To be fair, all defenses have trouble with a DT QB. When the secondary is in zone they are much more effective against the run and underneath stuff.
We have Baker vs a predominant man coverage
Baker could have 100+ yards rushing in unpredictable qb run game
Dang straight!
I could see the middle open and he sees a lane and racks up the yards.
So, will this be the thread for the remainder of the night? Approaching a thousand comments on the other one.
I’m comfortable.
Which is crucial. 🙂
he gets a little pissy when he isn’t comfortable
He needs a snickers
maybe two 🙂
I added a couple of snippets to the other but it’s like crickets in there
This lengthy named bowl gAggie is playing in got off to a weird start. The cardinal player got ejected for targeting on the first play. The gAggie receiver got blasted, don’t know if he will return.
going to tun that one now…have to watch on line since the Mrs. Blaster is watching- and no joke- another Hallmark movie for like the gazillionth time. She rolled her eyes at me when she saw me watching the OU-Baylor game for the hundredth time and stated her inability to understand why I watch a game over and over again when I know the outcome. I shot back with…”its no different than ANY Hallmark movie you watch ..seen one you’ve seen them all.” She left the room after giving me a tip of her cap and saying “touche”.
That Mrs. Blaster is a smart gal. I mean, I know if I’m not gonna watch football, it’s gotta be Hallmark.
Just a tip. Classic “Twilight Zone” marathon on SyFy channel.
Gross. I am offended, sir. 🙂
Rod Serling was a genius.
How can you not love a woman that wears a cap.
She went to town without fixing up her hair…. But it is another reason I adore her
A cap is my wife’s favorite accessory.
Boy, how things have fallen apart for A&M and Sumlin. I don’t think its not even over yet.
Just the tip of the iceberg.
I’m now in Longview, TX. We recruiting anybody from here?
Not that I’m aware of. More is the pity, lots of talented players in East Texas. Just 22 miles East is my home town, Marshall. If OU doesn’t try to get in on Cameron Haller(RB) I will be very disappointed.
Man, and fans of other teams think our fight song gets old. A&M’s got old the first time I heard it.
Due to the heavy migration from the Daily News post to here, I’ll repost for your viewing pleasure:

Man I’m pumped!
I expect Clemmy to harrass Baker all night, so it will once again come down to how many plays the Magic Man can pull out of his hat. Hopefully we can wear down their big defensive front by late third quarter and start to gash them with Perine and Mixon. I think this will be a contest of big plays and big setbacks. We REALLY need the receivers to have a great game, and catch everything they can get their hands on.
Get the ball in the flat to Perine and Mixon…this better be in the play book.
I expect they will try to harass him.
I believe they will have some success chasing him from the pocket. But, as we’ve seen all year, great things can happen when the ‘PlayBaker’ is on the move.
They will make some plays. I don’t think they will make enough. Riley and Bedenbaugh will have the boys dialed in.
Lousiville’s frosh QB is a playmaker!
and reckless
As freshman are apt to be.
And making me money ?
Even most famous golf coach in world is rooting for us. Cool.

Adjust to their Athleticism? I don’t think so. Are they more athletic than Baylor? At Qb only. I think they’ll have to adjust to ours as well.
They don’t fool me.

JY, you are dead wrong about Gallman. I posted about him earlier and I was quickly enlightened to the fact that he is nothing special, somewhere between a Daniel Brooks and Alex Ross, and that we’ve faced 8-10 better backs this season. Sorry, but you can’t be right about everything. : S
Funny, because I watched the ACC title game and Gallman looked fast. On this, JY might be more right than wrong.
I was being sarcastic. Stoops has said that Gallman is the best back we’ve faced this year. Everyone pooh-poohed that suggestion saying he’s not that good. I KNOW he’s the best I’ve seen us face.
Mike Warren from ISU was a pretty solid back FWIW he had a terrible line though. Also the Baylor backs are pretty solid also they just didn’t have a great game against us.
And neither will Gallman.
Oh Sorry. I didn’t hear Stoops.
I find that hard to believe. He may be AS good as some we’ve faced, but better? Eh, not sure about that. Plus the OU D plays against Perine and Mixon in practice.
Put another way, Gallman isn’t going to beat us.
So he is fast. Pffft.
He’s so fast he makes fast people look not fast.
But if he is faster than fast people then they aren’t really fast.
But is he fast enough to turn out the hall light and be in bed before it’s dark? Cause that’s, you know, pretty fast.
Heard a very interesting stat on the radio today. Defenses blitzed Mayfield 37% of the time. When blitzed, Mayfield has a 69% completion percentage with 13 TD’s and ZERO INT’s. He leads the FBS in this category. Venables likes to blitz about half the time. Could be interesting!
That is a fascinating stat.
It would be interesting to know what Watson’s stats are in the same category.
They just said that Brent Veneables has been playing Baker Mayfield on the scout team.
I guess now we know why Clemsons defense is so confident.
Was JH calling the plays also SMH!!!
I think they’ll discover BM to be a bit more elusive than Coach V.
just a tad
LOL!
Which voice in your head said that?
I know that I have a wild imagination but not even my brain could come up with that. They announcer on the A&M game said it.
That’s even funnier than if you had dreamt it up. 🙂
I’m afraid it’s true:
http://www.tigernet.com/story/football/Shaq-Attack-Lawson-sacks-Quarterback-Venables-practice-14450
LOL!!
Uhh…yeah…tiggers, you have a problem.
“Venables told TigerNet it started because he felt like he was the
only “athlete” on Clemson’s roster capable of simulating Oklahoma’s
offense.”
Im guessing Dabo was playing Striker.
Why not, they don’t seem to have any athletes other than the starting 22.
Im starting to feel better about this game.
I already felt good about the game. Bordering on giddy, now.
That box of unbaked Cinnabons I have in the fridge are going to start the day right.
Nothing better than a Cinnabon and an extra large coffee.
btw. Best Cinnabons I’ve ever had were at Disneyworld.
The coffee press and French Roast will be present, along with a hunk of Owen’s sausage(hot variety).
I swear I think I’ve gained 10 lbs just reading your posts for the last year or so.
LOL!
And yet, I haven’t.
Got the fixin’s for a chicken fried steak celebration dinner.
Hand made tuna salad for pre-game.
Im thinking of ordering a 3/4 lb Jackson Hole Mushroom & Cheddar cheese burger and steak fries to celebrate. Im sure that by the end of the game my blood pressure will be shot to hell anyway so whats one more thing?
They’ve only had a couple of good recruiting classes. From what I understand from trolling their info sites, there’s a huge dropoff from their 1s to their 2s.
They now have 112 kids on their roster and not one athletic enough to mimic Baker?
/very odd
Very odd indeed.
They tried to hire a Mack truck to simulate Perine, but couldn’t find a sober driver for it.
So instead they hired Mack Brown
I can’t vouch for his sobriety either.
lol
Samaje Perine doesn’t flush the toilet because he scares the shyt right out of it.
The theory re: BV knows how to attack the OU D and where the QB is likely to go with the ball sounds plausible but then reality is going to hit them as it is going to happen much faster with Bake and Bake improvises so well. You can’t simulate that.
Wow… Not sure what to say about this one.
That is a head scratcher.
Now may not be the time to try and re-live the glory days coach…
Yeah but I bet he couldn’t dance nearly as good.
Had to read the article to believe you…sorry! Starting to feel really good about this game. Sounds like depth might be a little bit of a problem. And if they’ve been practicing with a 45 year old man at qb, I think Baker might surprise them a bit tomorrow.
Que and Austin Roberts will become key for our Dline.
This is going to come down to who is better prepared. Since Texas there is no other team in the team in the country better prepared for everygame. We got this. Boomer!
SOONER!
Prep is always crucial, but each game takes on a life of its own, and often comes down to intangibles. I think Intangibles like OU this year.
I agree
I liked what Lincoln said “pratice was like the 4th quarter of the Superbowl, it was a bloodbath”!
That comment is what makes me have faith.
I suspect cause this has seem to be the way OU has worked all season is the first couple possession will probably be some of the head scratching stuff that we will all yell at the TV of what are you doing. But, I have found that they use those first couple possessions to determine what will work for them and then they turn it up. Also after watching NC, FSU, and ND this year which are the Clemson marquee wins, neither of those 3 had as much team speed as we do. Plus 2 of the 3 teams where playing with their backups. Lastly since Texas this team has been 100% focused and on top of things, and I suspect that they will be a lil more than pissed off. I expect to see some things we haven’t seen all year on the D and O sides, now old cliche is not broke don’t fix it and I am not saying that is the case saying what is working will have a new look and some new schemes and we will probably pull some tricks. I think in my heart that Shep, Westbrook, Neal, and Andrews show out in this game, and come NC game Perine and Mixon do what they do. I am not overly confident but, I feel at peace about how the Sooners seem to be approaching this game and the coaches as well. I am calling for a 45-24 victory cause I think we come to play out the gate. May you all have a great new year and you all be safe tomorrow and BOOMER!!!
SOONER! I’m looking forward to seeing us surprise Clemmy with a trick play, in which Shep catches a punt, and then advances the ball downfield. They’ll never know what hit ’em.
Yea we wouldn’t even see that coming!!! LOL!
It’s funny you mention the trick play. Every time i see a highlight video showing the reverse flea flicker against Iowa State, i get a gentle buzz in my head thinking about doing this to Clempy. I don’t know if it’s just a desire to see us do it, or if the universe is giving me some clairvoyance. Either way, I’d love to see us score on our first play and not let up till we choose to call it a night.
Sometimes the universe speaks to us. Your hearing is accute, wise one.

I just watched some of Wayne Gallman’s highlights on YouTube and they are pretty impressive. This guy can’t be overlooked.
I have full faith and confidence that our front 6-7 are well prepared. He is fast, but he isn’t as elusive as some they have faced or as powerful as others.
I think he is a bigger threat as a receiver.
As do I.
Plus, EasTex, I have that feeling again.
That calls for a song.
https://youtu.be/pipuxjMpiaI
Do you want me to bring anything over for the game? Chips…cupcakes?
Funny.
Tater tots, of course.
Lmao!
Are you ready?
I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep tonight.
This wait has been torture! Im so ready!
Tonight is Christmas Eve for me.
The first half of this A&M game seems to be taking forever. Never much cared for the color announcer, who, in addition to his general lack of insight, seems to think Clemson will prevail tomorrow.
Andre Ware
Yeah, that’s him. Not impressed.
He’s certainly entitled to his opinion. From what we hear from practice we are very energetic and getting dialed in. This outcome will certainly be a lot different this year. We have endless amounts of motivation not to mention guys are healthy. I like our chances but I know that sometimes crap just happens, calls don’t go your way, and penalties kill but hopefully the good guys win this time.
Just in case you’re in FL and reading this…. save you a lot of hassle getting to the game.
Arrive to the Capital One Orange bowl at Sun Life stadium EARLY!
Kickoff is scheduled for approximately 4:00 PM ET. Thursday afternoon traffic in Miami will be very heavy. It is highly recommended that fans do two things to make their game day experience kick off with a bang!
Pre-purchase your parking for $25. It will cost $40 on site and you will have to sit in a line to purchase your parking to access the lots. See below for additional information.
Arrive EARLY. Fans arriving on site one hour before the game may have difficulty getting into the stadium at kick-off. It is recommended to be parked at Sun Life Stadium before 2:00 PM ET. See the Game Day schedule below for information of activities in and around the Capital One Orange Bowl on game day.
Im reserving a space on my couch 15 feet from my big screen tv at 3:15 pm EST. Im also reserving a 6 pack of Dos Equis.
Only 6? You don’t want to have to be making any beer runs!
No worries. I’ll also have a bottle of Ketle One cooling in the freezer.
I’ll be joining you FTM, except I prefer Negra Modelo. I hope all those who make it down have a pleasant journey. I want to read some funny stories on Friday AM.
What are you going to drink after half time? And despite the many pretenders to the title I’ll need 50 Hooters regular wings, all drummies, regular hot (not 3 mile island!) with 5 or 6 Curley fries and some extra ranch dressing for my espousa and others!
Apparently all the Clemson fans are in Miami right now I seen two of them . Followed one all the way to Bryson city and he knew that I was a SOONER FAN. He had magnets and everything .
I wouldn’t mind a LOT less of Pollack and Galloway.
Do we only get to give one upvote per post?
Making it seem like we need motivation for the tombstone thing. LOL!!! We don’t need motivation, we’re just taking extra.
Really. Both Galloway and Pollack are now just looking for excuses to snipe at OU
They aren’t looking for excuses…they’re looking for opportunities. Both of them have had their mind made up about OU long before OU became a factor in their eyes.
Where would OU put all of the tombstones is my question?
On some 100 ACRE plot of land…
I thought the tombstone thing was funny, and I doubt most of the players really cared that much. Let’s be honest – OU did kind of play dead last year, so being placed in graveyard wasn’t out of place. But those are last year’s ghosts, and they won’t be taking the field tomorrow. I’m hoping what Clemmy sees tomorrow from OU is much scarier than ghosts anyway.
Maybe we should wear shrouds and declare that we ARE the ghosts of Christmas past! Spook them good.
Ha! Maybe so. I suspect poor Dabo would turn ashen and run for his life!
Pollack is the new Mark May, pure moron. Galloway is just not very smart.
The more I hear these espin goobers, the more I’m convinced they’re just puppets, parroting anything corporate wants them to spew just to pick up a paycheck. Not objective thinkers.
Exactly. Wish I could be that terrible at my job and still earn a paycheck.
except Herbie, we like Herbie
Herbie is their saving grace, he needs to break away and create the Herbie Channel.

I’d watch. Football commentary interspersed with classic Tom & Jerry cartoons, in which he analyses and breaks down each of their confrontations.
And Lee Corso could break in with weather forecasts
That’s entertainment! But I’m not sure ol’ Lee has the sense to come in out of the rain anymore, much less predict it.
He’d need to follow Herbie in order to survive.
Yep. Call it LOVE BUG or something.
Herbie is on board. As a Big 10er, he is as disenchanted as we are about the sec bias at espn. He gives other conferences and teams (especially OU) their due.

Without a doubt they are puppets. ESPN is a monster and they have talking points and specific narratives they want conveyed. These guys (for the most part) toe the line and stay in their lane. Herby is one of the few guys with the stroke to be his own man. I can say in the last 3 years or so I have watched ESPN’s in-depth CFB coverage less than ever. I just don’t have time to watch a show when I already know that the “opinions” are going to be. There are many reasons a title this year would be oh-so-sweet but shutting up the haters and Stoops doubters would be right near the top. I heard Finebum on the radio last week and he was talking about how surprised he was Bob kept his job after the loss to texas. Seriously? BS has brought this program back to national relevance. Year in year out he puts a high quality football team on the field. He runs a clean program and wins a boatload of games and as much as they want to forget about it, has won a national title! I pray, literally pray this team goes all the way this year. Make all the pundits eat crow and bring that title back to where it belongs! Booooomer!
I had a dream 49-28 OU
You would think that it’s halftime during the game tomorrow. This board is blowing up!
Well TFB, it’s finally here. It’s go time. Time to put up, or shut up. I’m super pumped (as I know you all are,) and I believe we are gonna kick the dog sh*t outta the tigers. Mentally, physically, and on the scoreboard. Chase for 8 is on. Lets do this.
Booooooooomer!
I just went from 6 to midnight.
Soooooooooooner!!!!!!!!!!!!!
8 is great! Did you see what I did there?
Not following, what’d I miss?
He made a rhyme.
Galloway wears me slick. He makes such ridiculous statements. Not sure why he’s gotten so much air time this year. But let’s get to the real reason we are all here. Boomer!!
SOONER!!!!!!!
They’re going to be scraping Kitty guts off the field when the game is over.
I want to see the play where Mayfield rolls right and throws back left to Mixon on the wheel route. We’ve only ran that once. I can see that working against Venables aggressive defense.
That play takes time to set up. The blocking has to be on point.
Yes, I think we need to make Clemson’s speed work against them as others have done to us in the past- let them over pursue
Seems like a good game for the ole HB screen. Middle, right, left. Screen them.
Yes, I think we need to make Clemson’s speed work against them as others have done to us in the past- let them over pursue
Will the Flowers flea flicker work….?
Too slow developing. Personally, I would not try a play like that in this game, unless we absolutely had to.
Is it just me or are the advertising saying if Clemson wins they are in the National Championship game. And nothing about if we win?
Clemson fans need to be told how it works.
I guess OU just wins and goes home, and then Bama gets to claim their 3,467th mythical national championship.
You know fellas, and fellettes, we all get to relive our childhood, Christmas Eve insomnia tonight, so enjoy!!
I was just telling my wife this…Feels just like a kid at christmas eve!
“Crazier than a dog in a hubcap factory…”

Sweet business. Today OU women. Tomorrow OU football. Saturday OU men. I’d call that a Sooner sweep week.

I bumped into Kevin Bacon once, so I have no degrees of separation. And that’s just weird.
did he smell good?
I can’t recall, But he looked awfully cool in his aviator sunglasses.
you didn’t get it… hmmm… Bacon
I was glad you didn’t ask how he tasted. :-0

I wish Kevin Bacon would have passed on Footloose, his dancing and alleged street toughness was confusing.
Could we just say he is “multi-faceted?”
Okay. He did teach Chris Penn to dance, so we’re good.
He was pretty cool in the following.

Seeing TAMU struggle against L’Ville reminds me of something I posted a few weeks with literally no response from the Crainiacs. If you think about it, Colorado, Nebraska, Missouri, and TAMU have all struggled a tad from leaving the Big XII. Seeing some of the schools under consideration to join the conference, BYU, Pitt, Houston, etc, why can’t we pursue some of our former members to come back home?
Because they won’t be allowed to leave their current conferences without a) major penalties, and b) their tv rights would belong to their current conference for the next several years.
Even if they aren’t winning, I get the feeling most are happier where they are. Nebraska being a possible exception to that.
I wish you were very wrong, but I believe you.

Well you know it’s not Clemson. Nothing looks good in baby diaper surprise orange.
My son never pooped orange, then again he’s perfect so…
Needed more strained carrots and yams. ; )
don’t have tweeter, who’s winning?
We’re losing.
I want to see the mean and dirty attitude the team had at Baylor without the stupid penalties.
Way off topic…
Just had another sub-par experience with DirecTv customer Service… who do you guys/gals have as your provider and do you like what you have? Why?
Hmm…had both Dish and DTV and preferred the later. More $$$ but always had good service.
Yeah, I used to but this was my first call since the AT&T merger, wasn’t impressed.
AT&T is the biggest problem you have now. I have Dish and at one time it was bundled with AT&T phone service, dropped the phone and have been reasonably satisfied. Our other house has Uverse but I hear there are big changes coming with that early next year.
Yeah, read where DTV/ATT may offer programming over the internet sometime next year
Yeah, the tv service will be internet based, everything streamed is what I’m hearing.
yeah, this makes me want to be patient and see how it all washes out but I’m not too sure
I need to look into it some more but Google fiber is coming to Oklahoma. Might be worth switching to that.
I’m fairly rural, a small town NE of Tulsa (Claremore)- doubt Google will bring fiber anywhere near here
I’m sure they will be in Tulsa. Not sure if they will try to dominate the world or not.
I don’t expect to see it, I’m lucky to have mail service out in no man’s land. 🙂
Where you at?
It’s not going through Adair. 🙂
Google does have a facility in Pryor but I doubt that would constitute them bringing fiber to the rural areas surrounding it. Maybe Tulsa and OKC
Claremore and Owasso have a chance after it hits Tulsa and BA.
Bolt might be, though.
Hussain?
http://boltfiber.com/
looks like it’ll skip Rogers County, just to the east- lucky me
I would skip it
you would skip Rogers County or Bolt?
Both
Will Rogers never met you. 🙂
Shame. I think he would have liked me.
If you are on NE electric lines you have a shot, they are trying to get it system wide.
no such luck- Claremore utilities for electric
That sucks, they are some of the most expensive providers around.
cri-mi-nals
I’m not in Adair, btw.
I know, you were just pulling for their football team. You are up in the NE though right? Buffalo run territory.
Grove. Coach Lippe was an assistant for my HS team when I played. Cool dude.
Spent a lot of time on Honey Creek in my dad’s cabin, became fairly familiar with Grove but I’m sure it’s changed a lot over the years.
It definitely has. When was the last time you were up here?
Probably early 90’s as far as staying at the lake, made a few passes through there since when I had a bass tournament but even that has been a while.
Bassmaster Classic is back this March.
Okc
Ahhh
Stay away from AT&T. I’ve had both and I preferred dish but really there wasn’t much difference. Directv is usually more willing to throw in something for your inconvenience. I do recommend if you’re not under contract to cancel with them and just watch how hard they try to sell you to come back.
AT&T and DirecTv are one in the same now.
Yes which means directv is about to get worse. I just meant stay away from uverse.
Well, there’s your problem. ATT imported their customer service staff, which means, there is none.
I’m on Cox. Pricey but service and reliability is outstanding.
I have Dish. I hate it. Before I had DirecTv, hated that too. Can’t win.
I have DISH and find them much better with the better equipment. No one has anything better then the commercial skipping, autohopping, 6 tuner, 2 terabyte of memory Hopper. And they will match anyone else’s price and throw in HBO and Showtime if you gripe at them that you are thinking of changing carriers.
Perhaps Stoops and Stoops know all about Brent’s defensive tendencies.
To show my side in these matters, I never really liked a Venables defense at OU. He lives and dies by his blitz. And I thought his blitzes were predictable.
Boulware is everything Venables wanted Wort to be. That’s it.
Like any Venables defense, nullify his LBs, go after the secondary, and you’re in.
Respectfully,
Message Board Know-It-All
What I’m saying is that Brent doesn’t like DBs and the DL is simply a way to funnel offensive players to his LBs to make tackles.
I think BV’s second Achilles heel is that he can’t stand to substitute. Me thinks his vaunted defense will tire significantly in middle of third qtr which will bode well for our stout running game. I foresee us blowing the game open late in second half because of this.
If Riley and co can find a way to run the ball on Clemson then it should be all over. Venables like most defensive coaches, tries to stop the run first. As long as we can move the ball on the ground then we should have a really good chance. A big help would be if we can get an early lead and take away their running game early on. Make them one dimensional and see if Watson can complete 70 whatever % of his passes when that’s his only option.

OK. We know East Tex is doing something exotic w/ tots tomorrow. What about the rest? Going with a standing rib roast tomorrow for a victory celebration and then ‘poor’ it down with a batch of Hoppin John and cornbread for NYD.
Me and the Missus will be smoking and then roasting a prime rib rack.
Perhaps a vaguely obscene choice of words. Reads like you’re getting high then roasting a cow.
Smoking the rib rack for flavor then roasting it to temp. But I see what you did there too. 🙂
You dudes are some wild and crazy guys! Dude, let’s party.
From the old SNL days…
Same way I read it, was hoping for an invite. 🙂
Either way, it’s a winner.

Please message me!!!
Remember, only those who speak with English accents can use the “c” word.
Deadwood characters too…
Canadians use it quite frequently, as well. At least the ones i know do. Of course, in their defense, it’s usually after i make some remark about Canadia being America’s hat. Or how Canadia leads the world in being just north of the United States.
If we can run, we can win. But I say that every game. I just hope that LR has a bunch of surprises for Brent Venables.
Getting ready to go to work tonight. Nap in the morning and then ready to go. I have talked no trash to anyone at all. You don’t have to advertise confidence.
Have a good night. Been there, done that…it’s a whole ‘other world at night.
Indeed. It’s a flip side of life that most people never experience. Feels kind of like being in a waking dream.
Yup. Very under the radar.
Just got to work. Get off at 6:00am. Will sleep until about 1:00pm and get up and start fixing a bunch of goodies to eat . Ready to get this party started!!
It’s a perfect plan.
Spent a number of years on nights. Got passed by a highway patrolman one time around 4:00 AM doing at least 140 mph with no lights or sirens on Interstate 40, Scared the crap out of me. I scan my mirrors and rear view constantly and didn’t even see him coming up on me. I was driving 80 and he was gone so fast l might just as well have been standing still beside the highway. Never saw any reason for stealth ultra speed in the paper. I don’t think they are supposed to go that fast while code 2 much less with nothing on!
I’m still coming to grips with the fact that Baylor rushed for 645 yards last night.
I kinda want to see the coaches just scrap the whole game plan and just do that.
Well, they couldn’t pass, so that’s what they had left. I’d rather have 300 rushing and 300 passing.
This=balance
I hope Louisville doesn’t let A&M get away with a win here.
Looks like they’re starting to take control.
Good story about Holder and Gundy of OSU hoping for a Sooner victory and eventual National Championship. I found the following quote from Gundy about recruiting interesting.
“You always get backlash for (expressing support for conference rivals). People say, ‘You recruit against certain schools.’ But for the most part, recruiting is coming to an end. Young men make decisions based on certain things. At this point, in my opinion, it’s better for our conference for Oklahoma to win their games.”
http://www.tulsaworld.com/sportsextra/osusportsextra/sugar-bowl-mike-holder-and-mike-gundy-agree-for-the/article_63203519-2371-5135-b39e-3981d76c3f9a.html
Only a cowboy mentality would allow such a thing.
Secretly, he may want Cale to get some new fingerwear, so he can admire it at the next family gathering. Largely because he realizes it might be a while before Pokie State can earn their own.
Davis Webb got his release. Baker didn’t. But Baker has had the last laugh.
Ball game, swag copter down.
A&M’s AD puts Chip Kelly on speed dial.
I would actually like to see a piranha spread offense in the sec.
So would I. I was listening to a guy on radio here in Alabama saying you can’t run a spread in the SEC. SEC SEC defense yada yada SEC SEC SEC. I would love someone good to come in a tear up the SEC with the spread.
Would certainly fit the definition of “poetic justice.”
I hope MSU puts Bama under so that the entire SEC country will lose interest in football until next year.
That entered my mind as soon as I heard about the firing.
I would rather Kelly go to A&M than Texsa.
Totally agree.
Chip Kelly wants to stay in the NFL. Maybe Titans will hire him since they have Mariota.
Kelly took alot of unproductive risks while with the Eagles, wouldn’t understand why another team would take that sort of financial risk again. It is however the NFL.
I don’t think NFL Teams would be scared away from a guy who took risks and had one bad season because of it. Especially when another year there would’ve been more telling on how well those risks really worked out. Too many teams expect immediate results, which is probably what makes risk taking coaches more endearing to begin with.
It was more the decisions he made. I believe it was 4 pro bowlers let go, the trade for Noles etc..
The Foles – Bradford trade worked out fine, I’d say. One QB has been benched, the other found his groove in the system and did as well he could with no protection and WRs that can’t catch.
He let some talented players go, but Jason Peters is an 8 time pro bowler and had the worst season of his career. Can’t assume McCoy or Mathis would’ve faired any better. Last I checked neither of those guys could tackle, and their not exactly lacking talent up front or at the RB spot.
I have no idea what caused Philly to regress so much, I really don’t think getting rid of some of the players that he did was the issue. I don’t disagree with them firing Chip, maybe the timing of it, I probably would’ve given him another year. However, I also don’t think Chip Kelly was so awful a coach that other team in the NFL would be interested in him. After all, Jeff Fisher still has a job.
Chip Kelly wants to stay in the NFL. Maybe Titans will hire him since they have Mariota.
Don’t know if this is a re-post. If so…my bad. Toby Rowland’s scene setter video

Let’s get some picks going! OU 41 baby tigers 24
picks*
Put you’re red pen away professor….I’m looking for the edit button….
*your. 🙂
Hey Ray! It’s da beers bro.
I’m getting there.
And then there’s you. You can go to bed too.
Go to sleep, Mrs. Crabtree.
You’re always lurking in the shadows.
Going big, OU 55, Pussy Cats 17
I like it. I didn’t see your pick until after I posted mine.
Nice, we’re onto something
I’m getting that feeling that this won’t be much of a game. There are too many great images floating in my head, seriously. It’s like deja vu or something. I’m getting that feeling that I’ve already seen the outcome and it’s a good one.
This
I don’t do predictions, but I did for JY earlier.
55-23
I’m thinking 17-21 points off of turnovers.
There’s that double nickel, again.
I’ve got this feeling. I am so at ease. I’ve had this feeling all year.
You’re a good dude, and trust your instincts. Did RBear make a prediction earlier?
41-31 SOONERS
I don’t think I’m going to be able to contain myself.
The Sooners have had so many misfortunes that it’s time for things to go our way. The Universe owes us.
My visual is our guys arm in arm wearing black shirts, Stoops up front in the middle. Feel like we were all there too.
I sense a consensus give or take a few
Our average is looking good.
thinking it’ll be tied or close to it at half, 17-17ish. OU pulls away in the 2nd half.
i believe everything OU does tomorrow will turn to gold. I think we will get the breaks and the lucky bounces.
i agree, they have not faced what we’ll throw at them, mental and physical exhaustion will manifest
right, HUNH with limited substitutions will get ’em gassed in a hurry
This will be their first test against a team that can execute at a high level, offensively.
Yep, execution and we’re such a physical team, not only on D, but our backs will stiff arm or lay you out, plus our receivers are excellent blockers.
OU isn’t a team that experiments on the job. There won’t be any of this: “Well, let’s try this.” Not tomorrow.
I believe Clemson is going to have issues with passes in the flat to Mixon and Perine.
What are your keys to the game?
Block, tackle, catch, run hard, communicate, know your assignments, stay focused and have fun.
Having fun will be the real key. If they can play loose they will forget mistakes, quickly.
..
I agree, no question we’ll be focused and ready to play ball. This team is just special.
I disagree, dominating in the semi and seeing our starters come off the field to OU fan cheers while the backups get some PT will make it very memorable.
I certainly hope that happens. I want this so badly for Shepard, Striker, and Stoops.
I want it for all of Sooner Nation, young and old, near and far.
55-14, OU.
By one or fifty, I pick the Sooners to advance.
Safe. But I like it.
Earlier I said 55-27. For some reason I’m pretty sure on the 55 but I waffle on the 27.
That’s four double nickels for the good guys. That’s what Boomer4Life, EasTex, you and I predict.
For some reason I just have a feeling about this one. The same feeling I had in 2000 when I told the Nebraska fan we were going to beat their #1 team by at least two touchdowns. I did not know a persons face could turn that red in the face.
When we went down two touchdown in the first quarter I felt like an idiot, but then we know how it turned out. She never would speak to me after that unless she had to.
I’m calling it: blow out.

Does Wisconsin have the ugliest helmets on the planet, or at least close?
Maryland comes first. After that, Notre Dame, Michigan, PSU, SC, Bama, and then maybe Wisconsin.
I’m with Sam, Maryland’s helmets are grand mal inducing.
The bird splatter …. Or is it a uterus on the Texass longhorns helmet is pretty dumb
They are not orange so I would say no.
Don’t see anything wrong with them.
Wisconsin, not Miss Wisconsin.
Nope.
I went out for a while, had to pick up a friend flying home from visiting with her kids and grand kids. She is something of a sports fan, played tennis for most of her life and she and her late husband were USTA officials for decades.
Many in her family are OU alums and fans, and she will definitely be pulling for the good guys tomorrow. She mentioned that she read the USA Today sports section today and started going off on Joe Mixon. I said “whoa-whoa-whoa.” Do you know anything about Joe or what happened yesterday? She said no, to which I clued her in.
By the time I finished she was upset that the media had misrepresented what actually transpired, and said she would make it a point to watch for #25 tomorrow.
An evening well spent.
Converting the unwashed is always a good thing
EasTex, good thing you were there to set the record straight.
Just think how many people were influenced by their yellow journalism.
Truly pathetic.
not unlike other media spawned brainwashing- so many sheep
I don’t see how editors approve this garbage. How can you have multiple sets of eyes looking at this and it still gets printed.
It baffles me that no one in the media wants to acknowledge that he is basically under a gag order until the statute runs out on any pending law suit. He can’t even apologize until he is given the ok.
Those simple words “football related questions only” are so clear and easy to understand by normal people.
didn’t fit their already written narratives
There’s your problem, assuming reporters are normal and people. Most are neither.
Therefore, they are to be treated as such.
But their bosses all wanted them to ask the questions and stuffz, so they just had to…because we all know their bosses were totally paying attention to the fact that a kid who committed a crime a year and a half ago was suddenly going to be available to the press, right?
Cool story bros.
They probably knew he couln’t talk about it.
They knew, it was explained to them by numerous people. They were petulant about it.
Joe has got to have the strongest “will” I’ve ever witnessed. This has to tough on him. Yet, every time I see him, he’s flashing that big ole smile.
*Addendum*
I wore my best OU hat just in case I ran into any bama or sparty folks coming in at the airport for the Cotton Bowl.
Saw a whole bunch of sparties, the flight was coming in from Chicago. Many glanced at my hat and looked away. Didn’t see any bama fans, though.
Winnebago
From Chicago?
Tough trip. 🙂
no, the Bama fans. that’s why you didn’t spot any
HA!
I knew what you meant, just funnin’.
The Bama fans wouldn’t want to look you in the eyes. Every one I have talked to here says they expect to beat Sparty but they really don’t want to play us. It’s bizzare it’s the only time in twenty five years of living in Alabama where the fans have been afraid to play someone.
I encountered a man and his 20something daughter at the airport wearing their bama gear back when OU was first made #3 by the committee. He saw my OU hat and quickly looked away and muttered something to her. Neither would look in my direction after that.
Amazing what happens when we listen to the truth…well done sir.
FoxSports1 panel are unanimous for the Sooners

Interesting.
We’re DOOOMED!!!
boo, hiss
Are Brady Quinn and Justin Bieber one and the same?
That guy is a tool!
Brady Quinn is pretty to look at, though. Not Bieber.
Man, I really hope the tab didn’t see that…
Your autocorrect is not your friend, right now. 🙂
Mine is broken as well…just ask Ray and Dustin.
Why the autocorrects decide to fight back, at times, is aggravating.
Last I heard skynet, I mean autocorrect was planning on taking over the world.
You still alive out there ET?
You haven’t run off and become a Texas fan have you?
I’ve had trouble with autocorrect since the 70’s when I was using a typewriter.
ThoSe tipWriTers we’re terruBel.
No kidding. Nexus 9 Swipe is SO T-E-R-R-I-B-L-E!
Pollack is STILL bringing up backup QBs even though he picked Baylor vs us.
Can we just get this game going airway to sit these pundits up!?
Don’t understand why people worry about what Pollack says, out of everyone at ESPN. The dude hates Stoops because he talked trash about the SEC and keeps backing it up…
Hes pretty bad…watching him at the CFB awards a few weeks ago was painful. He would cut guests off and try to joke with them like they were at a bar or a house party. He’d make sarcastic jokes in the background when other people were talking. I think hes gotten pretty cocky in thinking he is the star of the show or something. I thought he acted like he was drunk or buzzed or something at the award show.
I’ve never liked the guy because he’s always come off as a douchebag meathead type that gives most athletes a bad name. But the fact that he can’t stop showing his SEC bias makes him auto-ignored.
I see you’ve made it there. Enjoy the game.
Two things:
1. what was the ruckus at the luncheon?
2. What’s this I hear Mack Brown said to Mark May?
Only thing I could get about the ruckus was everyone who was there (players) was involved. I missed the Mack Brown Mark May exchange.
Is that for both teams, or just ours?
Just ours not sure how many Clemsa players were involved….but I assume all.
Thanks. Be safe and watch out for the Burmese pythons.
Will do Sam! Good luck with the neighbor tomorrow.
ditto
Thanks. He won’t be here. I think it’s permanently resolved.
atta boy
Yep. I don’t know what will happen with what’s left of our paper thin friendship but he admitted he was wrong.
usually pays to be straight up
Glad you used my advice. 🙂
It was the whip cream that sealed the deal.
his coed groupies have gone to his head
True. Watching him during the playoff selection show was the same. It was interesting how he kept cutting Herbie off during the show.
My beef is that he’s a hypocrite. I used to like him when he first came onto the scene bc he didn’t hold back and he told it like it is (was). Now, he’s a broken, hypocritical record
I saw these knuckleheads pretending they were the playoff committee, let’s just say it was embarrassing to be polite
I really like BV and was sad to see him go. That said, his blitzes where usually poorly hidden where the LBs would move up on the first sound uttered by the QB, and they blitzed from so deep that the OL had plenty of time to pick up. When the LBs didn’t blitz, they stayed in zones like flat footed statues, leaving big spaces between them. Those weakness were exploited by decent OC. I hope he hasn’t learned.
I for one, was certainly not sad when Venebles left. Had some good D’s, but many of his defenses constantly gave up big plays, and could not stop a running qb to save his life. Hopefully, Baker can work some mojo, and we see the Venebles that many of us were glad to see leave.
What I didn’t like about BV was his inability to make in game adjustments and some times not at half time, either.
same w/ JH
New Sheriffs in town now pardner.
I’m not sure JH could make in season adjustments.
Anyone know how fast Boulware, Clemson’s stud LB, is or isn’t?
Hoping we can take advantage of their speed, get them to over pursue and burn ’em, repeatedly.
Not sure. He won’t be where he needs to be. So, no worries.
Couldn’t find speed, but some have questioned his coverage skills and the other LB Goodson. Will be interesting to see if we can create some mismatches passing.
Passes to the Andrews, Mixon and Perine will stretch their defense thin.
All. Night. Long.
I mean, OU is the first team, in years, that has weapons at every skill position. Too many people to account for means your are on your own all day.
I mainly want us to find our rhythm early, and sustain throughout the game
I have been visualizing the first TD drive against KSU.
ZIP-ZAP-ZOOM-ZONK!
Yes!
That was also a scene in an old Batman episode.
I hope we block them by running routes, not by keeping a skilled position player for pass protection. Block them by running routes. Occupying them is as effective as blocking them.
What tomorrow after the game looks like.
I’m going to have my wife spray me with champagne just so I can experience it.
Lol!
Well gentlemen it’s about time to go rest so I can prepare for tomorrow night. But I thought I would leave you this to prepare you for tomorrow.

the kitties watching every TD tomorrow
Boomer!
Sooner!!!
BOOMER SOONER!! Let’s do this! If we continue to play physical and can minimize penalties and their big plays, we win!
Awesome analysis, as always (got a bit alliterative there). What makes me nervous is that you didn’t get the same feeling that OU’s going to run in with the win like you did with Alabama and Baylor. 😛
No I think the Sooners run the table. So much so, that I bet Ol’ LT a bottle of Oban 14 year old scotch.
Thanks, JY! 🙂 Forgive my doubts, haha. Anxious to get the Sooner Magic rolling!
Charles Walker out with concussion, boo.
Wtf are you serious
Damn..pc. at work anyway your thoughts were stolen and posted on yahoo as if they did the research. Ref turn overs…I hate worrying about games like this but to me barring weirdness OU comes out on top due the amount of intangibles in their favor
I’m nervously confident. I believe this game is going to be tight and close but I think OU has the HEART and TEAM to win! BOOMER SOONER!
I wake up to Walker being out. I’m going back to bed and starting over.
