The Sooners’ 2017 recruiting efforts continue to bear fruit as linebacker Kenneth Murray (Missouri City, TX) has committed to Oklahoma.

Murray told TFB that he chose the Sooners because OU was “just the perfect fit for me, football wise, school wise…all of it.”

Many of you will recall from previous TFB posts that Murray grew up a bit of an OU fan. Once an offer was extended, Murray let it be known that OU was one of the schools he would visit. And that visit sealed the deal. In fact immediately after his visit to Norman, Murray said “between me and you, it’s everything I always wanted.”

The news gets even better for Oklahoma as Murray is expected to graduate early and be eligible to enroll early.

Here are a few brief thoughts from JY on what he sees from Murray:

Really solid get for the Sooners and adds length at the linebacker position the Sooners have been after.  Going 6’2″ and around 210, Murray plays OLB and even some DE in a 3-4 set.  What stands out to me is his strength at the point of attack.  Kenneth is really, really strong against the run game.  It was hard for me to find where a team got outside of him or a place where he got hooked.  He understands leverage and playing defense in a team concept.  He knows when to disengage blockers and how to become unblocked while holding the point until help can arrive.  He’s not as sudden as an Eric Striker, but who is really?

So for me I think he’s a strong side linebacker on the outside in big sets against the run, but he is versatile enough to bump inside and give you some strength and toughness at the point of attack in the middle.  He seems like a great team guy and a guy who understands how to play fundamentally and technically sound.  We’ve seen guys like him come in over the years under Coach Stoops and really flourish.  Strong player who’s going to come in, work hard, be a good team guy and really bolster and add talent to that linebacker group.
