After what could only be described as an incredibly successful visit a couple weeks ago, and the subsequent quotes about said visit that followed, it almost seemed as though it was a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’ Cameron Rising (Newbury Park, CA) committed to Oklahoma. And the 2018 signal-caller did just that Sunday afternoon making things official with an announcement on this Twitter account, as the ‘left coast’ continues to be good to the Sooners.
It's official!! 🔴⚪ pic.twitter.com/WxQBy5uYbd

As TFB had talked about previously, with both Rising and Casey Thompson — an OU legacy, the younger brother of former Sooners QB Kendal Thompson and son of Charles Thompson — sitting atop Oklahoma’s QB board there seemed to be a bit of a perceived sense of urgency between the two to grab their spot while it was still available. Clearly Rising jumped first and, as such, becomes the third member of OU’s 2018 recruiting class joining OL Brey Walker & DB Jordon Austin.
It will be interesting to see how this affects Thompson’s recruiting situation as one would have to think, with the way things currently stand for OU at the quarterback position, the Sooners don’t have room to take two QBs in this 2018 class.
But this day should be about Rising, who many believe has a legit chance to be the No. 1 QB prospect in the country for 2018. On film, Rising has just about everything OU would be looking for in a quarterback. He has the size to stand in the pocket and deliver with a big arm capable of making pretty much every throw. But it’s his ability to make plays outside the pocket, with his legs, that really puts him over the top as a prospect.
Rising looks to be an absolute perfect fit for Lincoln Riley’s offense and along with the aforementioned Walker, another possible five-star recruit who could be the No. 1 guy at his respective position, the Sooners have two ‘bell cow’ commits that will be a big selling point as the coaches continue to move forward with this 2018 class.
Because if the whole #SoonerSquad17 has shown us anything, it’s that great players want to play with other great players.

Riley!!! Solidifying the most important position for years!
Exactly, Texsa can have the linemen, well just keep taking the future Heisman winners.
But linemen win ships. I will take both, please.
We have 5 star Brey Walker already.
We’ve got a good start on linemen, also, with Walker.
Welcome to the family. 2018 class is “Rising” up!
Witty.
lol nice one Ray.
The ’18 class looks to be just as hot as the ’17 class.
Dang good start.
Dang sure is!
I posted about this the other day and I believe a few other people did as well but the kids accuracy is what stands out to me. Big time get.
Progressions.. He scans the field. There’s a lot of Qbs who can’t do that in college.

BOOM RISING!
Hard to believe that the footage above is from a sophomore!
His accuracy is Sam Bradfordish. And you won’t like to hear it, but also Colt McCoyish. If he can be like either one of them in college, I will be thrilled.
I don’t think any sooner would object to the next Colt McCoy on our roster. The kid was a baller, just wore the wrong colors.
Now Case McCoy on the other hand, and those damn Shipley’s, eff em!
Did you know they were roommates?
The McCoys and Shipleys? yeah, bastards. lol
They only mentioned it 100 plus times in the 4 RRR games we faced them, so yes, I think every sooner knows this.
Without question. You’ve gotta appreciate talent when you see it. He and that Shipley kid were devastating.
I’ll agree with one caveat, no injuries during his Senior year!! Really sucked to see both Sam and Colt have their college careers end with injuries.

Future opponents. Sorry boutcha.
BOOM!! Being #1 is a lifestyle and Cameron Rising is ready for it!
What a start for 2018, and 2017 is getting better and better!
Boom!
Kids a baller….BOOMER
40 to 1 td int ratio I likey!!
Wow, very polished for a Sophomore. Really excited about this ’18 commit. Stoked we got a Cali QB in the fold so early!
Okay, don’t judge…
Nice!
Nevery faileth – It’s ALWAYS a GREAT DAY to be a SOONER! BOOM!!!
The Crimson and Cream of the crop is Rising to the top!! BOOMER!!
This is Boomerefic!!!!!
Wow!! Kid blurs the line between ‘pro-style and option’ QB. Rising obviOUsly loved his OU visit and what Coach Riley is doing and can do w/ him. Gotta keep Riley for a few more years so he can put this rod he and the other O coaches are building into high gear. Welcome to the Sooner Nation.
Didn’t I read somewhere that Rising had 50+ td’s and only ONE interception?
Pretty close, yeah.
Wow!
I don’t care what level of football you are playing, or what the competition is like, that is impressive and difficult to do.
That is true – 40 TD passes, 11 TD’s rushing, 1 INT
There is nothing better than Sunday Booms!!!
Is Booms plural?
Is Booms plural?
Saturday tOUchdowns?

Huge start to 18 class with cornerstone tackle and QB, Cheryl approves—
I don’t even know what to say…I really didn’t expect this! Hopefully he stays true to his word. It’s a looong way to signing day for the class of 2018.
Just say BOOM, Toats. Always expect the unexpected in college football.
Yessir! Glad he chose the good guys!
He’s already said he’s shutting down his recruiting entirely, focusing on his Jr year and recruiting other players around him. I think he’s all in.
And his father is already a member on TFB. I think yOUr right!
Do you think his Dad will introduce himself to us? I would be curious to know how many family members of current players are members here.
He already has on the OP. nrising7 is his username.
Thanks Drew.
Wow. Sounds like SS17 has really changed the scenery on the recruiting front. I love it when kids start recruiting their teammates. This kid looks like a winner, and I think he’ll attract more like him to our program.
BOOM indeed.
I don’t even know what to say…I really didn’t expect this! Hopefully he stays true to his word. It’s a looong way to signing day for the class of 2018.
Is it just me or does the picture of him at the top of the page look like Baker Mayfield?
I thought that several of his passes were similar to what BM may do.
And so continues the pipeline into West Coast recruiting #BOOM
Boom – Nice looking kid. Always good when you get the guy at the top of your board.
My oh my, 2017 class is going to be totally awesome but 2018 may take it to a whole new level. I like it, I like it a lot!
2018 looking good! Nice to keep that pipeline to Cali pumping too!
Hopefully, he can get some of those cali boys to come with them. If we can continue to get those top players we will be in the top half of recruiting.
Boom.
That should attract some quality wide outs…
I like that he throws a very catchable ball. He needs a better O line though! He’ll get one with the Sooners!
lol he could be playing in 2023
Kid is ENTERING his junior year of high school and already has his slot reserved!?!?!?!? Impressive. Hopefully he proves to be a quality recruiter as well.
There is a young lady golfer here in Huntsville, Alabama. She’s in the eighth grade. She’s rated the number two golfer in the class of 2020. She’s already a University of Alabama commit. BTW, she just won the State Championship (AHSAA). She was the second youngest woman to win the championship. Last year she was the youngest to win.
But can she return punts?
I certainly hope not. She’s an Alabama commit.
Wow, this is HUGE!! Good work Coach Riley!! Oo-ah!
I feel like I’m back in the Switzer Era. In those times, OU seemed to get ANYONE they wanted. OU really should name LR as the “Head Coach in Waiting”. Dont let this man get away!!!!
Agreed! What happens if Riley takes a Head Coaching job at an upper tier school next yea? Will Rising stay with us or go with him?
They mentioned South Carolina as a “possible” for Riley this year. With head coaches being paid $3-6M, how will OU fend that off? And with Stoops saying that he’d like to coach for 10 more years, I just don’t see how they’ll keep him. It might take some “Sooner Magic” to get him to stay.
The good news is Riley is only 32. Not likely that a upper tier school offers him a HC job at that age unless he goes to a lower tier school first and proves himself. There are only six D1 coaches under the age of 40 and the only one at a P5 school is Klingsbury and he isn’t much of an advertisement for taking a young coach.
I think Riley still feels like a kid on Christmas morning, want’s to play with his new toys for a little while.
Hopefully until BS retires.
I’m not sure why so many people have him leaving in short order. He’s said he’s focused on winning a Natty, not another job. I think he’s enjoying working with the tools he has, and with what’s coming in, he can be fairly selective.
Did LR not interview at USC? “Hopefully” he only did it to see what he didn;t want to do right now.
Not to be argumentative but been really bored this evening and was hoping for some football but no game was cancelled because of wet paint which has to be a first so I start researching and found the following:
American – E Carolina Montgomery 38
Memphis Norvell 34
USF Taggart 39
ACC – Fuente 39 when hired turned 40 10 days ago
Big 12 – Iowa State Campbell 36
Big 10 – Maryland Durken 38
C-USA – North Texas Littrell 38
MAC – Toledo Candle 36
West Michigan Fleck 35
Mountain West – Harisan 39
Rolovich 37
SEC – Missouri Odem 39
SunBelt -Georgia Sothrn Summers 36
Troy Brown 36
13 coaches under 40 and every P5 conference but the PAC12 has one. Don’t know what that means but thought it was cool info!
Well, his dad posted here quite a bit today, you could ask him. They like the school, Stoops, and the other players/recruits. I wouldn’t sweat it too much.
I hope u r right Ray. From your lips to God’s Ears!!!!
I’ve always felt that a recruit that commits to a coordinator doesn’t have a good understanding of the business. That said, sure it happens on occasion.
You have to pay to play…and OU should just outbid any school within reason to keep LR. The HC in waiting didn’t work out too well for Will Muschamp did it? Money and a new title would go along way.
Unless Stoops is retiring soon Riley will be leaving within three years and he should. The best we can hope is Stoops convinces him to stay until the right job opens, like he did under Spurrier.

BOOM!!! Welcome home Mr Rising!
WELCOME Mr. Rising! We Sooner fans look forward to yOUr years at OUr school. Enjoy your next years in HS – but you can start working with your two fellow 2018 stars to make your group a close as SS17 has become.
In 2017, we’ll have something equal or better to what OSU had in 2014…
Baker, Austin Kendall, Kyler, Chris Robinson, and then in 2018 no BM, but Rising…
Nice to get that QB early, let the other offensive guys rally around that. Hope this leads to a WR bumper crop as well. BOOM!
