This is so hard to watch. Why are our coaches exposed so often? Why are we continually ripe for an upset? I just don’t get it. Maybe tk9 is weaker than we realize. Remember that year we only scored 3 at Nebraska? This game has the same feel.

Being a Sooner fan for 42 years, I’ve never seen a coach with this problem given the amount of talent he brings in … Uncanny, it’s like he has a hole or void in his approach to coaching, and it ends up hurting the OU brand. I got the name from one of Will Ferrel’s movies, and yes, I will continue to use it when Bob under performs in embarrassing fashion.

I can’t totally agree with that. I’ll say Ahmad Thomas is horrible, but the other guys are bound to get beat from time to time. The guys playing for Texas are on scholarship too. I’m not saying they’re great or anything, but they aren’t terrible by any means.

But on the field, tk9 is a liability, and opposing defenses know to attack attack attack. He cannot handle the pressure, and he is a weak QB that is totally susceptible to injury. This was not an overwhelming performance that I wanted to see after a loss.
The bad news is that between TCU and UT, we’ve shown EVERYBODY where our weaknesses are. We are a very beatable team. Stoops shows this to opposing teams EVERY year, and I’m really tired of it. It is so hard to watch Stoops’ teams … I think he really lost something in his coaching abilities after that Florida loss.

Today was a grind of a game, but it was a win.
1) On offense, we finally attacked the middle of the field some and it was successful. Have to continue to develop that.
2) Man, our offensive scheme and decision making is curious at times. Look how much success Texas had with the zone read. It boggles my mind that we have essentially eliminated that from the offense.
3) Defense needs to be a little less soft.
4) Ahmad Thomas isn’t seeing things well and he doesn’t have the speed to make up for it.
We didn’t attack the middle like we should have, but when we did, it was money!!
The regression of Trevor Knight from the Sugar Bowl until now is stunning. Absolutely stunning. It happened to Landry Jones and it’s happening to Trevor Knight. What do the two have in common? Josh Heupel. As soon as he became the OC, Jones started going backwards.
I’m not sure its regression so much as Knight was a one-game wonder. It does happen from time to time, at all levels of sports. Kind of like the classic one game awesomeness of the backup qb in NFL, then they show who they really are every other week.
The problem with that theory is that he’s 10-1 as a starting QB. He played well against multiple teams last year including K-State.
He’s been bailed out by the defense his entire career. The only games he actually won were Bama.and K-State.
He didnt really play that well in most games though. But I do see your point. We fans sure have a lot to bitch about when our qb is 10-1, lol.
The QBs need Heupel on the field talking to them, that’s for sure.

You can’t regress from “one game”. Truth is, TK was never as good as he looked in the Sugar Bowl. Period. That was about as perfect a game as our offense could have played. The real TK is what we saw the rest of last season, which wasn’t overly impressive.
Knight is getting worse. He was okay at the beginning of the season but has been steadily getting worse.
He had a good game against K-State last year too.
He isn’t getting worse, the competition is getting better. That is different.
Throwing the ball 4 feet over the head of your receivers and locking onto your primary target all day has nothing to do with level of competition.

This isn’t Knight’s first big game—-far from it. His accuracy should not be affected unless he’s being hit as he throws—-which is not the case.
Actually, that has a lot to do with competition. And it’s not like Knight didn’t miss throws, easy throws, earlier this year too. I saw them. I complained about them.

The “weapons” we say knight has are not as good as the weapons he had in the Sugar Bowl! Saunders, Bester, and Shep are way better than what he has to date. Neal is getting better , but not near what was there last year. Game plan was also different!!! Last year we put TK in a place to succeed! This year we are try to make him a pocket passer……….. SMH. He isn’t one of those!!!!! All we heard in the off season was Quick this, Quick that…. Where is he… Where are the tall receivers we recruited?????

The negativity on here is astounding . . . we didn’t play the best, true, but our defensive scheming was massively improved, and Texsa got every break possible given to them (including a favorable spot on essentially every play on O and D). Given how they targeted Sheperd in the 1st half (seriously, how was the TD not a PF and the punt return not an ejection?), and the massive improvements we made on O in the third quarter, I feel much better this week than last. Take out the wet turf, Texsa getting lucky constantly, and coachable mental lapses on D in the 4th, and the forecast for this team still looks very good.

Not sure there’s anything major to fix. He played well today, especially with Shep being targeted like he was in the first half. Sure, he didn’t see an open Bell on a third down, but that’s what film is for.
He did hit 60%, which is better, but he also missed at least 3-4 wide open throws.

Looking at those, I’d say they were pretty much dominated, with the exception of 3 drives in first half, and 2 drives in second.
Earlier, you stated that we dominated the second half, that is what created this conversation. Neither prevent mode nor mental issues are qualities of a dominating performance- this team needs work from both coaching and execution standpoints; we all know the talent is there.

Yes. We dominated the third quarter, and outside a mix of tiredness (which will be fixed by Dimon and Walker returning) and some simply poor decisions due to inexperience (which coaching easily fixes), we were better in the 4th as well.
Tiredness would be fixed by running more than 50 plays a game on offense also, and finding a way to convert third downs too, and get your defense off the field a bit. And coaching doesnt easily fix inexperience, talent and improvement does. As Bob says, its up to “players to execute.” no?

I agree, but after the last two weeks I am not sure that we could keep up with Baylor. We will not shut them down. Therefore we have to be able to keep up with them and our O is awful and weak.

My take on this slop fest of a game. 1. OU is not a top 10 team (No where close). 2. Josh H may be the worst OC in D1 football. He has no creativity what so ever and has no ability to use skill players. 3. Mike S has put together a good run D but our middle is weak and that is all on the young DBs and LBs. 4. Either Josh H has forgotten how well the zone read works or Bob has handcuffed him and is not allowing it to be run. 5. Our WR group may be the worse we have had in the Stoops era. Those boys cannot catch anything unless their name is Shepherd. Today I realized why TK singles out Shepherd, he is the only one that can catch.
Hard to see how we handcuff TK, when we killed KSU and ISU on the zone read last year !! That is what separated TK from BB!! We can’t shut down a dual threat QB, when that is his strength!!!! But OU has seemed to do that… SMH!!!!!!!
I know everybody goes back to the Alabama game, but we put TK in plays to succeed!!! We rolled him out, got him in space, gave him multiple options to consider!! All we have done this year is try to make a pocket passer and handcuff him in the run game!!! Like I said earlier, that game plan/blueprint is locked up in the trophy case with the damn trophy!!

OU is nowhere where they should be offensively. The reason is because opposing teams loads up to stop the run, problem is Knight limits them with his acccuracy issues. If knight continues to struggle,and he will, this may be a Mayfield team next year. Most of the Defense well be back and most okc the offense. OU will be much better next year. Hopefully OU blows by Ku and Thomas can get a look. I thought for most of the game Ross looked better than Perine.
If OU would make the change to either Byrd or Parker at safety, it would shore up this secondary!!! To many break downs on Thomas’ part!!! I hate harping on a kid, but it may be necessary to help this team!
Why is Thomas starting anyway? The kid has not looked good in one game yet.

If both OU and TCU win out, our chances wouldn’t be bad at all.
If tcu wins out, they win the conference and we have no shot.
I wouldn’t say “no”. PAC champ will have 1 loss, SEC champ will likely have 1, Big10 is out, and ND plays FSU, so either ACC or ND is out. If both teams win out, and we get a little help, we could still get in. Playoff will have (as of now): big12 champ, SEC champ, and . . . that’s it. The other two spots are wide open as of now, and there is some wiggle room to get big12 #2 in there. Not a lot, but there’s still a decent chance I think.
That shot is too long for me. I would rather be Big XII champs and make it difficult for the selectors to leave us out.

My voice of reason; It was an ugly win, BUT it’s still a win.
KSU offense isn’t too scary.
Everyone blames Huepel, BUT why not also blame Norvell? Somehow, he’s recruited a lot of WR who don’t seem to be able to either get separation, OR catch the darn ball. Maybe rather than just recruiting size, he should be recruiting speed like Baylor has done.
OU’s interior line blocking looks very weak. Why? OU has a lot of size.
And finally OU is starting to use their TE (Bell). He looks to have great hands, and that gives him a shot at the NFL.
Darlington is fairly inexperienced, and M Brown is a beast on the inside. Simply a poor matchup.
Well, I think we all learned something very valuable here today.. no matter the difference of our views on the Sooners, and their execution, playcalling, etc…
