OU Regents Approve New Contracts For Football Coaches (UPDATED)

Image via Sooner Sports

The University of Oklahoma Board of Regents met on Tuesday to discuss a variety of agenda items, among those being contract specifics for a number of OU athletics coaches. While there are surely more details to come, with regards to both other football coaches as well as those from other OU sports, what we know right now is that Lincoln Riley just got paid.

Ed. Note – Mike Stoops’ new salary is also $900k, not $950k as was initially reported above.

The second-year offensive coordinator, who made around $500k this past season, saw his salary nearly doubled after a year in which the Sooners finished with one of the top offenses in the country, made the CFB playoff, and were already having to deal with other schools pursing Riley for head coaching jobs. The latter of which isn’t likely to stop any time soon, however with this considerable bump in pay one certainly cannot accuse Oklahoma of failing to do their part to keep him in Norman.

Additionally, as the tweet above indicates, defensive coordinator Mike Stoops also received a healthy raise of around $50,000 after making $850k this past season.

Although little more than a formality in many respects, both OU assistants, along with HC Bob Stoops, also received contract extensions as well.

This post will be updated, if necessary, as more information becomes available.

    First!

  • OUWade says:

Man, I hope that Riley sticks around for a couple more years and continues getting better and better before he gets a seriously awesome job offer.

    • scott carroll says:

I think he will. He’s recruiting like crazy and if we can have success for this year and 2017 with Mayfield I think he would want to see what Murray/Kendall/Robison would do in 2018. Plus if we can land Casey Thompson I think he’ll want to stay around for him as well. Who knows but today is one more day closer to Labor Day Weekend!!

      • OUWade says:

yeah, I hope so. I’m hoping for a Kirby Smart type career for him. Lots of success and is able to just stay put until an “elite” type job can become available.

        • scott carroll says:

Elite like OU lol. When Stoops retires it would be awesome if he were to step in. Similar to Switzer

          • OUWade says:

yep, I’d be okay with that. As long as he proved himself worthy. And, if he was here and successful for that long, then I’d sign off. Since I know Boren and Castiglione would definitely want my approval 🙂

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

And hopefully dissimilar to Gary Gibbs.

    • Drew says:

My expectations are for him to stay between 2-3 more years, then take a solid P5 HC job to cut his teeth for a couple of years and then being a top candidate for Bob’s replacement whenever he decides to leave. Though, I would be perfectly happy if pulled a Jimbo Fisher and stayed on as OC/HC in waiting for another 5+ years.

      • OUWade says:

yeah, I’m okay with either of those scenarios! I’m a little cautious to crown someone so early because I was in the group who thought Josh Heupel would be the heir apparent to Stoops, but if Riley were successful (either here or as an HC somewhere else) until Stoops left, I would be thrilled to have him as our HC.

      • J.r. Kamm says:

The way Jimbo Fisher ran his program when Jameis Winston played for him — no thank you.

  • scott carroll says:

“At the end of the day” they need to get PAID!!! lol.

  • ccmosaic says:

I think this will put Riley up there with the highest paid OC in power 5. He may not be the highest paid but he is up there with them. This should allow us to keep him for a while at least.
My hope is we keep him until he is the next HC at OU or until Gundy is ready to be the OC.

    • UGA Sooner says:

There was a lot of speculation that Riley would take over after Stoops leaves if he decides to when his kids graduate high school. I hope that’s in the workings. I would hate to let Riley go. And he’s what? Like 35 or something? he could be HC for quite some time. Yeah, losing Bob would be tough, but if Bob wants to retire, I’d want Riley as HC. Gundy would be 1b

      • Drew says:

I personally think Bob is here to stay at least until his sons graduate college. They’re both good enough to walk on at OU from what I’ve heard (and I’m sure Stoops gets a good enough employee discount that they would never need scholarships to begin with), so I expect Bob would love to coach his twins at OU. Plus, as much as I like what Riley has done so far, I’d rather keep the known quality of Bob as long as possible.

        • UGA Sooner says:

Was not aware his kids were that good. I’m just thinking if he does in fact want to retire, I’d vote Riley my number one choice. He’s a young, proven coach that recruits quarterbacks very well (granted none have played yet, but the stars matter to these kids and a highly ranked quarterback will bring in better players across the board) and he clearly handles the media well. However, I’d love to keep Bob and Lincoln. Bob is actually the only coach I’ve known at OU. I’m only 21. I’m just a huge fan of Riley’s youth and wealth of experience he already has at his age. I just don’t want to potentially milk Bob for a couple of last years and then lose Riley. I suppose we will see, though. And it’s OU. I’m sure any hire would be great and successful. I’d just much rather promote from within

          • Drew says:

Wow, someone on here who’s younger than me. I’m only 23 myself, and the 2000 championship season is the first season I remember, so I’m the exact same way about Bob. I just feel that, while Riley obviously has tons of potential, the HC transition doesn’t always work well (see Muschamp), which is why I’d rather Riley get a bit more experience before Bob leaves and we need a new coach.

          • UGA Sooner says:

I’m fairly confident you and I are the youngest on here. And yeah, I see your point. A HC is not something you want to take a chance on

          • metzker says:

            Wrong, HWSNBN is 10.

          • Birddawg says:

            what the heck is “HWSNBN”..
if there was ever a bingo language.. that cuts the cake

          • metzker says:

He who shall not be named!

          • Birddawg says:

            ooooooooo gotcha!

          • Birddawg says:

I think its very early that they had discussions about Bobs retirement. Hes locked in for the next five seasons…

Riley will most likely take a job outside then.

But there’s no doubt with Bobs coaching tree that he’s grown over the last 20+ years .. There is a viable head coach that we can hire… if not within the tree its OU..

This program is Legen… wait for it… Dary!!
            Legendary!

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I hope Baylor doesn’t come calling after this year. I hate them, but they now have been winning for three years, have an offensive mentality and are willing to break the law to keep their football success rolling.smh.

  • COSooner says:

They better pay Cooks et al…

  • ccmosaic says:

There will be some power five schools needing new coaches after this year but I do not imagine any of them will be quality enough to pull him with what he is making now. Sure they could pam him more for the HC but when your making close to a million a year, playing in the CFB Playoffs and coaching with one of the best HC in football it will take a heck of a job to pull him away now.

    • OUWade says:

it totally should. Not to mention, your employer has been very loyal over time. So, even if he had a down year with player turnover, his job would probably not be questioned the way it seems to be at some other places.

      • SoonerSpock says:

It would be questioned by the fickle OU fans in a relatively big way. Not by the administration at OU or Stoops.

    • Kelsta says:

Everything you said sounds reasonable. That said, it doesn’t give me any comfort. I’ve seen similar circumstances and I’m often surprised by how coordinators are so quick to bounce for more money (or a better title). For me, there’s a certain point where money would have less influence on my decision. Family stability, job stability, familiarity, relationships, kids, friends, etc… would outweigh job title and more money. I guess the reality is these guys are driven to reach certain professional goals and that’s part of what makes them great coaches.

  • hOUligan says:

Mike and crew fielded a pretty good unit this past season. The new hires and the shuffling showed on the field. So a raise was probably warranted and seems they needed to bump him up to keep him above a 2nd year OC.

    MONEY being passed around!

  • Birddawg says:

Bill Bendenbaugh knocked it out of the park with recruiting Dru Samia…
    and others .. Brown..etc

  • Mike Reed says:

  • Boom says:

Having Baker sure didn’t hurt Riley makes some extra $$. Love his offense but Bake made it work.

    • JB says:

It’s hard to make any offense work when your players stink. If this were 1996 and we had Eric Moore, it would have been a much different story for LR.

Having good players is a must, but all things being equal, his system is better than most out there. He takes the best of the Mike Leach passing attack, balances it more with the run, and keeps it easy to understand for the players.

  • hOUligan says:

So LR gets the same base as Mike….interesting. Also, that Gundy and Kish only extended thru 2017. Would think Gundy, esp, would be ‘locked in’ longer term. Coach B being rewarded $$$ and locked in thru 2018.

    • JB says:

I’d like to see OU do whatever is necessary to keep LR for the long term. I doubt Bob is going to be around too much longer. I think LR has the intelligence, the personality, the patience, the mindset and the system to be a national championship caliber coach. It would help with staff continuity, but I don’t think you can plug just anybody in there and expect it to keep rolling. I think he can.

      • Stephen Dale says:

I tend to think Rileys huge raise eliminates any chance of losing him to a mid major or to another P5 school as just an OC….JMHO but Riley will be the next OU HC sooner than later….Think Bob will do 20 yrs and retire to enjoy life with more than enough money in his account….

  • Boom says:

Beden just put some extra $ in his Boom. Coach Beden$Boom.

  • SoonerGray says:

I think it removes any smaller schools from offering/competing for LR. It will take a mid/top power 5 school to woo away at this point, which is great.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    B.Stoops update added

    • metzker says:

So more than 25k a year as said above?Or am i slow.

      • MoJoOkie says:

One doesn’t necessarily supersede the other.

      • Bob Edwards says:

The head coach always has all sorts of incentives built in, so it could be 25K per year base and his incentives go up. Or it’s the OK media so they could just be writing every number they hear down and putting it in a bag, to pull out when they need one.

  • SWoods says:

Maybe I’m crazy, but I can’t help but think that Patti Gasso deserved more than a $5k raise.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Market value. I can’t find a list of the top coaches salary in softball, but the Auburn coach makes $180K and is one of the top coaches in the country having won two NC’s at ASU and taking Auburn to the finals. Gasso makes $476K so I doubt she’s complaining.

      • SWoods says:

Yeah Bob, I know softball isn’t a revenue sport by any means, I just expected more. I’ve been looking for a list of the highest paid coaches and can’t find one. I was curious to see what Murphy, Hutchins, etc.. made.

        • JB says:

I think she deserves a higher raise than $5,000. Her efforts are worth a lot more money than that. An extra $20-25k would do nicely. I’d like to see some numbers but I’ll bet softball didn’t lose money this year.

          • Bob Edwards says:

She got $115K raise in 2013. They’ve been taking care of her. From what I can tell, she is the highest paid softball coach by a large margin. Haven’t found anyone close.

          • BigJoeBrown says:

Yeah, when push comes to shove…OU isn’t going to let Gasso get away. She not only wins, but runs a clean program, her players have advanced professionally and she is really a uplifting, high character, great person. Heart of gold…

          • Defend Colfax says:

Maybe someone should ask what Mark Williams is getting.

          • JB says:

Couldn’t say off the top of my head but their salaries are listed on the state’s website “open books” or whatever it’s called.

          • SoonerSpock says:

2015 fiscal year Mark Williams was paid $298,499. K.J. Kindler $330,500

          • Jeff says:

            Should be no complaints here

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I’m sure she bonus’ed out nicely for the WCWS and the natty.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Oh, and she also got a $65K bonus for the NC. That’s more than the average head coach’s salary which I saw on one site as $61K.

          • JB says:

Ah…didn’t see the bonus. That is acceptable!!!

          • Bob Edwards says:

It was in her 2013 contract.

          • Boom says:

They lost money. No other sport makes money at a university other than football. There are some exceptions like Duke or Kansas for basketball. However, Kansas football stays afloat due to the Big 12 TV rev.

          • Super Keith says:

Exactly. Most schools don’t even make money from their football programs. Many break even (or are close), and then there’s the upper echelon of schools that make money, but it’s not nearly as many as people think. And men’s basketball….there are probably less than a dozen (out of hundreds) that turn a profit.

That’s one of the reason so many schools didn’t want to start paying players a stipend. It’s not going to put schools out of business, but a lot of athletic departments struggle to maintain. That’s why donors are so important.

Not to derail further, but if anyone wants a glimpse into athletic departments and finance, check out Dan Wetzel’s book “Death to the BCS”. It was obviously written when the BCS was a thing, but there is a lot about athletic department funding (or lack of), and a really insightful section about how Bowl games are almost always a money loser to the schools (with the exception of the current CFP and New Year’s day 6).

          • Super Keith says:

I’d be very surprised if it didn’t lose money. Gasso’s salary alone is $500k. By the time you factor in the assistants, the scholarships, travel and accommodations, and facility maintenance, I seriously doubt they made a ‘profit’.

You have to keep in mind that 99% of D1 men’s basketball programs don’t make money. There are very few that do. So, if the majority of men’s hoops don’t make money, you can almost bet that softball is nowhere near profitable.

        • SoonerSpock says:

The latest published data I can find shows Murphy being paid $240,000 for 2012 after LSU had made a run and he agreed for a couple days. I would expect today it is closer to $300,000.

Carol Hutchins made $221,744 with 2104 raise. Probably makes about $250,000 today but can find nothing published.

As of May 2016 Tim Walton made $305,000 with a $45,000 bonus for making the WCWS and a $90,000 bonus for winning the WCWS. Obviously Patty $476,000 included a bunch of bonus money but it appears no one makes more than she does.

Wow! Half-a-mil (almost) to coach softball seems like a pretty sweet gig. Especially in a cost-of-living area like Oklahoma.

        • Stephen Dale says:

its the value one places on a NC in any college sport and the good publicity generated by the ladies…..Gasso deserved a larger raise as did her staff and to be promised more facility upgrades ASAP….

          • Boom says:

How many times do you beat this dead horse. We all understand you don’t like the current facilities. We get it, let it go.
I’m sure JC is looking into the SB facilities as he does all sports.

          • Mark_in_VA says:

I’m willing to bet Gasso is happier with her situation than you are. I also have no doubt any concerns she has with the facilities are given substantial weight and will be addressed to her satisfaction.

    • StL Sooner says:

I will let Patty complain if she is upset with her pay. Its not my place to complain on her behalf. I would trade her paychecks in a heartbeat!

    • SoonerSpock says:

Patty Gasso compensation for fiscal 2015 was $476,499 which includes bonuses. It is about $100,000+ more than the salary of Alabama, LSU, UCLA, Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Tennessee and probably Florida. Only Tim Walton could be paid close to what Patty makes.

I was a little surprised that Kindler and Willliams both only got $5K as well as their salaries were $330,500 and $298,499 respectively.

    • stan H says:

      Absolutely!!!!

    • Super Keith says:

She already makes great money (she’s one of, if not THE highest paid college SB coaches in the country). If she was making much less, then I would agree that 5k is low. However, given her current salary, and what appears to be complete control of the program, I think she’s just fine.

  • Ryan says:

Where the hell is the OP? 2 days and counting… Slackers.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Go earn that money boys, then enjoy it!

  • j l says:

We should be thankful to be able to give these coaches raises with the state of oklahoma education at the moment.

I dont even know how many fundraisers i attended for my daughters school this year, just to keep her school afloat. I kept worrying the insulation that was coming out the gym ceiling was going to fall on us during multiple events lol.

    • Bob Edwards says:

The coaching salaries at OU don’t come out of the education budget, they come out of the athletic department budget which earns a profit every year and gives some back to education. Given the year we have had, I would guess the income has been pretty good.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

Yeah, but the people who don’t realize that will bristle at the 7% increase in tuition the board dropped on the students today.

        • rainydaze114 says:

People should do that anyway, regardless of football. Education should not put you in debt for the rest of your life.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Tuition will always increase to meet the availability of student loans.

          • Dr. Doobie says:

Agree 100%. I put myself through professional school with the help of student loans. I’m grateful for the degree I received from the University Of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. I’m very thankful for that. What I’m not grateful for is the huge monthly payment I will make every month for the next 25 years. Oh and if I didn’t extend it out to 25 years, I would be paying somewhere upwards of 2500+ per month to pay it off in 10 years. I also get no tax relief from the ridiculous amount of interest I pay each year. I go to school to better myself and my family only to be indebted to it for years to come. People are going to need student loans to get an education, but I believe there should be something done to help with the financial burden later in life. My tuition increased over 200% from my first semester to my last. Student loans from the government cap at a certain dollar amount. I had to take out extra just to get by. Not going to mention the interest rate on the extra was almost triple what the government rate. The ever increasing tuition makes me cringe for my kids when they are old enough to go to college. I could go on, but I won’t. Sorry for the rant.

      • j l says:

I know, just looks bad from a perception standpoint. We give all these coaches raises, while we have to cut education budgets across the state.

I know we are one of the best schools in giving back to the education, but still, theres going to be some that are outraged, even if its necessary to stay competitive.

        • JB says:

I could care less about the perceptions of the ignorant. If they’re too ignorant or even dumb to understand where the revenue comes from then I’m not going to waste time trying to educate them.

          • j l says:

The vocal minority can be a powerful one though, especially in this day and age of social media.

It wouldnt be hard for them to say “why didnt they put that money into the education fund”, and not have a decent case.

Im not saying im against paying the guys, just that there are some that might be. Im just glad we were able to.

          • JB says:

            Good point.

          • Bob Edwards says:

A silent minority can also get these things shut down. Often they hide these taxes on ballots nobody is going to show up and vote on otherwise, then they get all their people out to vote. One of my sons has run several campaigns. Most of what they did was make sure everyone knew when the vote was going to be and that it was going to raise taxes. Some of them were defeated with an 80% no vote. There really aren’t that many people that vote for them, they just know how to manipulate the elections so only their people vote on them.

          • j l says:

Yep, thats very true. They are trying to sneak these 2 taxes across, buddy of mine that works for the city had to tell me about them, had heard a peep anywhere else.

          • Stephen Dale says:

eerily similar to Oklahoma educator tactics ………

        • Bob Edwards says:

Don’t get me started on school funding. Here in Alabama one of my sons helped get a new school tax defeated. Why? Not because people are against good schools, but because they had passed one a couple of years before. What did they do with it? They didn’t fix classrooms, they built a big multi million dollar administration building.
Most education departments have plenty of money if they could/would spend it on teachers and classrooms. Instead they spend it on high priced administrators, consultants, and complying with state and federal regs.

          • j l says:

Almost exact same thing here man. Theres 2 new taxes on the docket, because they didnt do what they said they were going to do 3 years ago with the money they got then.

These 2 are to retain teachers and new school buses. Its almost certainly going to pass. Just wish they had done this with the money they already got.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

The school superintendents in Oklahoma make over $50,000,000 per year, collectively. Do we really need 500 superintendents in Oklahoma? No, but that’s not what’s important. What’s important is that you don’t worry about where all the money goes, you just look instead at all the anecdotal arguments about how little Jimmy is failing and his teachers live in squalor. Is he failing because his parents suck at life? No, that can’t possibly be it. He’s failing because his teacher doesn’t make as much money as teachers in other states.

          • AgedBill says:

Let me ask you, where did you find that statistic? I get very tired of people claiming there is plenty of money in education, if they cut the fat. Believe me, the fat was cut in Oklahoma schools years ago. I don’t know how it is in other states, but I do know Oklahoma. In this state any tax that is voted on must be used for the stated purpose. I am a lifelong Republican, but the Republicans of Oklahoma have taken great pride in declaring every year, or so, “we have reduced taxes 25, 50, etc. million dollars and the people buy it even though it might mean only $25-$50 per family. The real winners are the major corporations. Hence we now find ourselves in the current financial bind. So much for my rant! 🙂

          • rainydaze114 says:

            Mary Failin’ am I right?

          • Stephen Dale says:

this problem predates Mary Failin by a long shot….It starts with federal encroachment in local rules / regs and the failure to allow a local school board to establishing & maintaining a discipline policy that rewards good students while punishing the unruly…such national policies as ‘no child left behind’ rewards the slow and lazy by restricting progress for the better students—–just the opposite of what many countries are doing to push their smarter students to excel while identifying those who need technical training . Little wonder public education in this country lags far behind those of Japan and others…

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Well, sorry to disappoint you, but government doesn’t operate very efficiently and there’s no reason to believe that their school systems are exempt from the misuse, squander and extravagance that has pillaged our resources for more than a century. If you want to make a little effort the financial data on public school administration costs are on the internet and it’s not pretty.

It’s been run this way for a very long time, but now that our children don’t stack up well against the rest of the world, those within the system believe (and always will) that the answer is to throw more money at it. I happen to disagree with their solution, and quite frankly, I can’t even remotely agree with the consensus on the true problems that have poisoned our education system.

FWIW, I no longer have the time or patience to concern myself with it. My children now attend private school at a cost well below the average of what is spent per child in the government run school system. Yes, private school is more efficient and my children are receiving an education that exceeds what would be available to them otherwise. It’s tragically unfair that our kids are forced into a system that is rife with failure when there are other options, but when has our government, state or federal, ever truly been concerned about the things we commoners concern ourselves with?

          • Stephen Dale says:

I think your average Okla school superintendent makes far more than $50K……when you add ‘perks’ such as a free auto & gas, number of paid education days, extra pay for unused vacation & sick leave, etc etc , the average school super makes close to $100K—and sometimes many times that figure…..The OKC guy who just left was drawing $225K in salary alone. Tulsa , Edmond, Norman, Lawton supers make well in exess of $125-150K and some small schools pay close to $100K ( Cameron OK I believe )……The state OEA office in OKC is full of ex administrators drawing far more than your average classroom teacher…One such employee is an ex-superintendent from SW Okla who was pulling $110K + perks at her school….I doubt she took a pay cut to work in OKC……..

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

You misread…I said they make more than $50 million altogether.

            $100,000 X 500+ superintendents = $50,000,000+ in annual compensation.

  • metzker says:

Meeting time see yall in a bit!

  • JB says:

Unrelated, but completely expected, Jaime Pinzino is no longer OU’s pitching coach. For Pete Hughes ‘ sake, he needs to hit a home run on his next pitching coach hire.

  • John Garner says:

They should make LR the school president. We don’t want this guy going anywhere else. As for Boren, well, he can stay as an assistant with a small bump in pay.

    • ccmosaic says:

      lol

    • SoonerSpock says:

For fiscal year 2015 Boren was paid $372,203. The only people at OU making more than Lincoln Riley are Bob Stoops, Lon Kruger, Joe Castiglione, Sherri Coale and Mike Stoops.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

        Sherri Coale. Ouch.

Isn’t she actually the highest paid female coach in the country? I think maybe so.
OU is not getting the return it should be.

      • John Garner says:

OK. On second thought, let’s keep Boren at his current job.

      • paganpink says:

They should take back about 372k of Boren’s money and put it towards reducing tuition until the school stops wasting millions of dollars on tenured professors who teach 1 day a week and 80 groundskeepers who dig up and replace the same flowers every 2 weeks. He wants to reach in my pocket and take money from me by raising my taxes because he won’t run his university like a business then we should reach into his fat pocket and take money from HIM!

  • JB says:

Hard to believe Party Gasso has been here 22 years. I remember when they hired her from Long Beach City College where I thought she had a pretty good record (161-59-1). Now she has nearly 1,200 wins and has racked up every award imaginable, as have her teams on both the athletic and academic front.

    • SWoods says:

AND the future is very bright for her. Legit championship contender for the next 3+ years at least.

  • rainydaze114 says:

They also approved a 7% tuition increase. :/

  • Jeff says:

The support staff needs to get bigger raises not Stoops

    • AgedBill says:

      Why do you say that?

      • Jeff says:

Stoops makes enough now needs to start winning national titles

        • Boom says:

Briles was making more than Stoops. He wasn’t winning anything

          • SoonerinLondon says:

I don’t have a problem with BS (or anybody) making whatever the market will bear. I don’t think Bailor should be a comparative benchmark, though.

          • Boom says:

No, replying to Jeffy. Stoops should have one to the top 3 – 5 HC salaries.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

One more Natty would be nice, not everyone’s a Nick Satan or Urban Meyer. Bob is third best in the country. But we cannot fall back this year.

    • Stephen Dale says:

      agreed……particularly Coach Cooks……

  • Matt S. says:

Open Post, Open Post, wherefore art thou Open Post?

  • Daryl says:

We all agree that Lincoln deserved a big raise no doubt, but man Coach B and Coach Cooks I think could have used a sliver of LRs money to bump them up more. They have been recruiting and coaching giants. You don’t find that combo all the time. It is usually one or the other is a clear strength.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Agree Daryl. Although Coach B lost a lot the year before he did ok. But the biggest thing needed to be locking down coach Cooks. That man should have seen a greater raise than he did.

      • ALar03 says:

        Just wondering but why Cooks?

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

His recruiting thus far has been unlike anything we’ve seen in Norman, ever. The improvements the secondary made from two seasons ago to last were very noticeable. His position players love him and it doesn’t hurt he’s a young black coach with Texas recruiting ties.

          • ALar03 says:

Im not seeing it tho.. they did a great job last year but that could have been credited to the defense as a whole! Who has he pulled in recruiting? You cant pay someone for recruits that have yet to sign and lost 2 defensive backs on signing day in his first season.. I think cooks is a great coach and a great recruiter but I dont agree that he should have been paid for one year of work.. Next year this time I hope to have a different opinion about paying him!

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

            Fair enough.

  • jettrink says:

They all oughta put some of that aside in a trust fund for Baker Mayfield. Without that kid, I doubt anybody would have gotten a raise.

  • Chris White says:

I see a few million reasons why we should get a Championship by the end of 2017

  • SooperDave says:

This teammate of Isaiah Buggs is pretty fast, and he is a big fan of AD. Any chance OU could parlay him and Buggs together to land the big guy? He looks like a good KR/PR, and he ran a 4.32 40.

Guys got paid…and I agree that they should set aside a trust fund for Baker. We all saw that second half vs TCU.

Wonder if support staff (QC’s, GA’s) got bumped? These cats do the lion’s share of the dirty work. Results would indicate their work was worth a bump.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

More great news. We need that Houston group. Big Marv, CeeDee and this next Von Miller.

  • ALar03 says:

Saw on facebook former OU pitcher Mark ‘Mook’ Roberts is putting his name out there for the vacant pitching coach.. I have known this man since I was little and I wish him the best and hope he gets the opportunity!
