If you haven’t read “The Martian”, you’re missing some good fiction. Can’t wait for the movie.

Good Morning All!! Man I used to love Contra. Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, A, B, Select, Start. Ahhh, Those were the days.

  • lovethemsooners says:

Sammy’s gonna light it up this year. Can’t wait!!

  • Chris White says:

Curious how Lon Kruger will run his offense with a 30 sec. Shot clock

  • Eric Hoffpauir says:

My least favorite time of year. There’s so little football news that we only get one football story, and it’s not even college football!

  • John Garner says:

    “The Martian” looks awesome.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

The author said he spend a lot of time imagining things that could realistically go wrong which would keep the story exciting. Very good read. You do get the feeling that the guy is ‘snake-bit’ while moving from one potential disaster to another. Also very good explanations of how he reacts to these issues.

      • John Garner says:

Thanks RocketCity. I love a good read. If you do as well, try “Fearless”. True story about a Navy SEAL (Adam Brown) who died saving his buddies and the type of training they go through. Amazing story. “American Sniper” pales in comparison.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m always looking for good reads.

          • blaster1371 says:

I’m not sure what all the duties of a quality control person in in CFB but he does does have an extensive football background though not anywhere I have heard of before. I would figure any QC from a big name program would likely move “up” into a coaching position and to another QC post.

          • Jordan Esco says:

I always just assumed that’s where they’d move Viney since his GA term is coming up. That way they could keep him on staff, w/ his Cali ties, and presumably even groom him to eventually be a full-time asst. coach.

Which isn’t to say that still can’t happen, I’m just not sure how that works now w/ all of their QC spots currently filled.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Could he become the on campus recruiting coordinator

          • Jordan Esco says:

I mean he could, in theory, but they already have one currently.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

            Coach Drew?

          • boomersooner says:

Mississippi JC’s have pretty good programs. Don’t know how long he spent there cause link won’t work on phone but he should have learned quite a bit. And everybody knows football is a religion in Dixie

          • Jordan Esco says:

            3 years I believe

      • Jed says:

Also has a background in PA and the NE.

        • Jordan Esco says:

True, but that’s not really a part of the country OU has or is going to have a ton of success recruiting in (with the obvious exceptions aside).

Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, etc. Those, in addition to CA & TX of course, seem to be the areas they’re really trying to focus on, IMO.

          • Jed says:

Not disagreeing, but we’ve had some success in NJ of recent years and there are some kids up there. If we’re going to ‘go national’ (and I think we have to – kind of like a secular Notre Dame), we need to at least establish telephone relationships with coaches across the country.

          • Jordan Esco says:

Fair points. I suppose, for me, it’s just a matter of how you define success.

Is landing a kid like Ricky DeBerry out of Virginia a good thing? Of course. But if you’re only pulling one (or so) kid out of there every 3-5 years is it really worth your efforts?

IMO, that’s debatable. But I also have no say whatsoever in the decision as to where OU allocates their time and/or resources so….. 😉

          • Jed says:

Largely in agreement. Where I would differ is that I think we have no option. So, our recruiting coordinator folks are going to have to figure out how to communicate and stay if not at the front of mind at least in mind with distant coaches.
Just like it wouldn’t be worth flying a coach out to the pacific islands; either in time or money…but there are some guys who look like Nila out there, so it would make sense to try and figure a way to open up comms with coaches out there.

          • Jordan Esco says:

            Agree 1000%

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Is there going to be an open post today?

      • Jordan Esco says:

K said he was going to put something together, but I know the guys are all also heading to that Michigan/USC camp in Dallas today as well.

    • Jed says:

And we await you, Mr. DeBerry.
And we can’t wait to watch you ‘transfer some kinetic energy’ come Fall.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

This is a great, great step in the right direction for college basketball. Hopefully they will take it down to 25, but alas a good start.

You’ve got me real curious about Viney.

  • Brian says:

What’s the story with Austin Wood?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Do you mean Dalton Wood?

      • Brian says:

        Yes. My bad

        • Jed says:

He was on campus for something like 20 hours (last Wednesday/Thursday), left, went home (so far as we know). Why? Will he come back? No one knows and anyone, outside of him and his immediate family who claims to is lying.
Unless someone has a direct pipeline, that’s where we stand. Much speculation on various boards, much of it mean spirited.
Probably best to wait and watch.

          • KJ1123 says:

I think everyone should just move on and focus on the kids that are there. He’s not coming back. Good luck to him.

          • Jed says:

you could easily be right. On the other hand, he could come back in time for fall camp.
            Until then it’s all ‘voluntary’

          • John Garner says:

We shouldn’t give up on kids. We have no idea what he’s feeling, thinking, or experiencing in life. If he gives up on himself, that’s something else entirely. But we should be patient and supportive.

          • KJ1123 says:

Very true, shouldn’t give up on kids. However with Wood, I believe he chose a different route. Not a bad route, just not in athletics and not at OU. I think he got to OU and realized that this wasn’t the route he wanted to take anymore. Mind you he has some personal issues that he’s dealing with, but he’s doing what he needs to do. So it’s not giving up on him, just wishing him luck and choosing to focus on the kids that are in the program now.

          • John Garner says:

I agree in part. The thing I was trying to point out is that we don’t know what he’s dealing with. Maybe the coaches do, but we don’t. Until we do, let’s be patient. If he’s done with football or whatever, then fine. Time to move on. But, until we do know, let’s be supportive in thought word, and spirit.

          • Stephen Dale says:

I suspect he’ll stay out of college / football for 6 mo -12 mo , then enroll at OSU ……figure Mike Gundy is involved in some fashion—–JMHO…

          • Slim Sooner says:

Agree. We don’t know that he’s not coming later or the circumstances for what’s happening now. I’m not giving up on him yet. I like the wait and watch attitude combined with patience and support. Be willing to bet he’s worth it.

          • John Garner says:

I would bet a large pizza that Bob Stoops thinks the same thing.

          • ND52 says:

Just how do you support people via the internet @disqus_7bA4sqebtR:disqus?

          • John Garner says:

How about positive comments ND52? Maybe prospects and players read the board. Maybe they don’t. But suggesting we should dump the kid and move on isn’t even supporting our program. JMHO.

          • ND52 says:

Maybe prospects and players read the board.

Is it possible—-just possible—-that the reason this youngster didn’t show up was because of all the ceaseless and unending attention generated by the internet?

But suggesting we should dump the kid and move on isn’t even supporting our program.

            Nobody said that @disqus_7bA4sqebtR:disqus. Nobody.

          • John Garner says:

I don’t know. I’m sure you don’t either. So what would you suggest? You have several issues but no solutions. I merely suggested that we be patient and supportive. If you have a better idea then by, all means, put it out there and, at the same time, get off my back.

          • ND52 says:

How bout we just leave the kid alone @disqus_7bA4sqebtR:disqus

          • John Garner says:

FTR, yes somebody did. Or least they suggested we should forget him and focus on the kids that are here.

          • ND52 says:

The only person that used the word “dump” was you @disqus_7bA4sqebtR:disqus . Moving on from a matter in which you were never involved to begin with is the adult thing to do here.

          • John Garner says:

I’m not sure what your true issue is but thanx for the advice. I’ll involve myself where I choose.

          • ND52 says:

Does everyone who disagrees with you also have “issues”?

          • OohRah Mama says:

Same way you support them face-to-face. Keep the trash-talk out of the picture, don’t make wild suppositions, assume you know absolutely nothing about what’s in someone’s mind & heart. Believe & hope the very best in & for that person.

  • SavageSoonerEsq says:

I can’t ever remember rooting harder for a person (i.e. Sam Bradford) to prove all of the national naysayers wrong. I hope they have to eat crow from daylight to dusk.

    Go get ’em Sammy!!!

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Definitely not an Eagles fan. But with Sam and Demarco I will be watching and hoping for an Eagles, Broncos Super bowl. Have some Philly Friends it could be interesting to say the least.

      • Indy_sooner says:

        And Lane Johnson too.

        • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I did not know. And another thing the PHILLY fans are more exited than they have been in years. About these acquisitions. Did I spell that right?

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I’ve read a few Eagles message boards. They’re still a little gun shy after Vick, but very excited about Bradford.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

As long as the BIG UGLIES keep him out of the dirt. He should be fine.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I like that he’s finally in an offense that will let him put some air under the ball when the opportunity arises. Nibbling your way downfield just doesn’t work, but whether it was personnel or coaching or both, he didn’t seem to ever be in that position.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

No its really hard to do when you only have two seconds to read the whole field before there’s a big Lineman trying to rip your head off.

    • BleedCrimson says:

I truly believe he will be great this year. I have always thought that if the Lambs could have kept his shirt clean, he would have performed at a very high level.

Article listing top 5 players by position Tennessee will face this year. You can argue some of the players on the list but it’s interesting to see the respect OU get’s from other parts of the country.
