FOOTBALL

Calling Eric Striker OU’s most indispensable player seems pretty silly to me (which is no way a reflection of his talent), but to each their own I suppose. (ESPN)

Samaje Perine adds rare dimension to offense’ (OU Daily)

For all the great things Boren has done both for the university and athletics (and there are many), I have to believe that ‘wallflower’ comment will wind up being his legacy for at least a decent portion of OU Football fans. Although I’m certainly open to being convinced otherwise.

‘David Boren anticipates Joe Mixon, Frank Shannon will be ‘better people’ as they return from suspensions’ (TW)

‘Bob Stoops returns to Youngstown’ (Vindy)

‘From Vegas to Philly, DeMarco Murray has learned to play his cards right’ (Philly)

lulz.

OU fans will remember this name, five star RB recruit and a former Sooners commit

RECRUITING

Fairly decent surprise USC didn’t make the cut here.

BASKETBALL

Evidently will no longer be there when Sooners play @ Wisconsin as return trip of home-and-home series starting this coming season.

Are we still in this conference?

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I’m guessing in body only not spirit. I think Boren is getting tired of texass’s B.S. Not to mention the BIGXII.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Tejas will destroy this league. The day is coming.

      • Kuzi says:

I saw Boren’s statement as a kind of an ultimatum. Essentially, patch this sinking ship or we are getting off. I am not as excited about the PAC as some others. I would say Big 10 or SEC.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I say SEC or bust. Although they no longer have the best team, they still get the top recruits and place more players in the league which is the recruiting magnet. Clearly, OU would get the Lion’s share of players that A&M and Missouri and the lesser SEC powers are getting. Missouri’s won the East twice. You’d think OU would be the equal of Bama if standards hold true.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            Or at least Mizzou’s standards…………

          • If my memory serves me correctly, Stoops does not want us in the SEC. I believe it was in part because of all the recruiting issues there. PAC 12 would be a great place for OU if push comes to shove. As for expansion, I like FSU and Clemson a lot. Georgia Tech would not be bad either – good football, good baseball and decent basketball.

OU will never change conferences because we always try to bring our little brother with us.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Interesting thing about the Burton tweet, first symbol next to ND is a bag of money.

  • Randy says:

Striker is our most indispensable player, he is the only one that other teams have to game plan for either on offense (now with new system), or defense.

    • John Garner says:

I’d include Sheppard. I think Sterling is indispensable as well, now that he’s healthy. Opposing DC’s will have to game plan for him as well.

      • jmac says:

I think you are both right. 🙂

      • Randy says:

They won’t be able to, he won’t be the ONLY wr we throw to now. Not that he won’t be the best but moreso not the only option.

        • John Garner says:

I only mentioned SS because of the receivers like DeDeE who can make DC’s lose sleep, he’s the only one who has played in a game.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      I’m indispensable as a fan.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

You don’t think coaches have to game plan for Perine? At min, they have to bring in extra trainers to handle all the injuries.

      • Randy says:

No, not in this offense. Not saying he won’t be a huge part of the offense but I expect all the running backs to be used the same way. If a offense treats Striker the same as other OLB (DE) they will get ate up..

      • Randy says:

Now the 2 biggest parts of our defense will probably come down to Bond, and Will Johnson.

    • Indy_sooner says:

I actually agree with this. QBs = crickets, RBs and WRs have sufficient depth and we have new guys on the line. Besides Shep and Perine he is the only one that consistently poses a threat any time he hits the field and honestly, he has *no* replacement in terms of production IMHO

    • SCSooner87 says:

Not gonna gameplan against Perine? I know he’s an airraid guy, but if he ignores Perine he needs to be fired after this season.

      • Randy says:

He won’t ignore him, but he won’t and better not be the ONLY rb touching the ball. I think Perine will like and excel in this offense. Will show he can block, catch out of the backfield and show off his quick (especially for a 240lb) start and stop feet.

In regards to OU joining the SEC but not wanting to leave OSU behind; why would OU want to leave OSU behind? For the last ten years or so OSU has put a quality team on the field and has played OU very well. The two teams I would want OU to keep playing if they go to another conference would be OSU and texass. However, if OU is in the SEC then no way I would want both of those teams to be OU’s out of conference opponents. As much as I disdain OSU they are a team that has the ability to beat anyone and certainly must not be taken lightly.

Another thought on OU joining the SEC. What would make people think the SEC wants to expand? The revenue sharing would be divided even further. Also, I doubt the SEC brain trusts thought Missouri would be as competitive as they turned out to be and certainly took the aggies to gain a footprint in texass. Neither team was added to bolster the competitive level of the SEC. OU would be a challenger to the “traditional” powers in the SEC- not sure that’s the direction the SEC would want to go in.

  • SCSooner87 says:

That person’s 5 step plan to fix the Big 12 is absurd. He could have simplified it to 1 step and said “be better”.

  • Jeff says:

If OU moves to the $ec wouldn’t OU have to drop wrestling?

  • Boomer4life says:

What would the offseason be….without expansion talk….
