During his customary postgame meeting with the media, Bob Stoops eased the concerns of many an OU fan after the loss of Zack Sanchez during the first play from scrimmage in Saturday’s game.
"Zach has a sprained ankle, but it is not broke, which is what we feared initially." Stoops on Sanchez' injury the 1st play from scrimmage.

While a sprained ankle can be one of those nagging injuries, it’s obviously MUCH better news than the alternative as Stoops alluded to in this comment above. And with the Sooners facing a bit of a lull in their upcoming schedule in Kansas and Iowa State, one would have to believe if there was ever a time you could afford to lose your No. 1 corner it would be now.

Great news
Fantastic news
Great news.
Back in time for Baylor. Maybe not 100%, but hopefully close to it.
That is the best Bday present that I got today. I did think that Austin played pretty well today especially considering they were targeting him all day. May get a little more game experience the next 2 weeks.
Happy Birthday, man. I got my bd gift against WV. Agree Austin came in and did well. He’s very thinnish.
Yes – AND – I don’t think Austin missed a tackle his way. Not bad… And- Happy B’Day Inks!
I say sit bond, Evans, Sanchez and anyone else that’s banged up the next 2 weeks. Shoot may be smart to sit healthy guys in the 2nd halves of both games.
Thank goodness he’ll be ok. Would hate to lose him. He was coaching up the D on the sideline!
oh sweet. all in all austin didn’t play bad. Pass Rush finally Showed up which is nice. OU secondary is ranked top 15 as of right now. which is good news with the TCU, State and Baylor games coming up.
The next 2 games are practically layups….rest everybody. Heck start the 3rd stringers.
Is it too late to walk on?
Baker says “NO”, go gitum Zack.
W.W.B.M.D.?
Win.
Hope the players are not thinking like that!
That’s what got us in trouble in Dallas. Can’t discount anyone.
Hearing Seth Russell may have a broken bone in his neck. Hopefully he’s ok

Thanks. I hope he’s not in danger of something serious happening
People get scared when the words “broken” and “neck” are used in the same sentence, but there is a big difference between a something like a spinous process fracture and a fracture around the spinal cord itself.
Oh thank you little baby Jesus for it only being a sprain
Good to hear. Next couple of weeks should be able to get some guys healthy and some younger guys some reps to be ready for the November stretch.
D.J. stepped up big, but you gotta have the ball hawk back for the final stretch.
Utah going down.
Florida State loose on last play of game.
and Texas A&M losing all teams ranked ahead of us
I know he wasn’t perfect and got beat a few times, but I was very proud of the way Austin played. He’s a small guy who has always had a chip on his shoulder. I think he was on the sideline working on a term paper, but when his number got called he was prepared to play. Very cool.
He tackles very well. Sorry but I can’t always say that about Zach among others. You can tell that has been a focus in practice. Since the Tx debacle they have all improved there.
Very confident. There were so many times did he need to make a one-on-one tackle and showed no hesitation. Very refreshing.
He throws his body into tackles, and does his best to wrap up. I like that.
Yes, didn’t give up anything extra.

Austin did good. But can we get the athletic dept to get him an undershirt that fits?
I don’t understand why guys wear those old sleeves. I guess a lot of guys don’t like the way under armour feels?
Nothing feels better than cotton………. (I think that was her name)
I’m one of them. Cotton rules the day for me. I’ve tried wearing those tight, sweat-wicking shirts under my vest, but I threw all of those away & went back to cotton t-shirts underneath…much more comfortable. I would not wear under armor under my vest because those are too damn hot as it is.
Plus dry-fit isn’t something you want to wear outside of athletics because it smells like s**t after a long day. Even if you don’t noticeably sweat, you can still smell it.
Not sure they can…he is really skinny.
Cotton sucks. I only buy it when I have to these days.
Jordan, you along with multiple OU “fans” should be thrilled . U have always hated him now he’s not starting so we are better off right?
I’ve been reading Jordan’s articles for some time, but I don’t recall him ever stating that he hated Sanchez. I’m not a huge fan of Sanchez’s play on the field, but I don’t hate him. Hate is a pretty strong word to use and gets thrown around too much. I’m not a big fan of Sanchez’s game because he makes as many bad reads as good ones and he lacks that elite level speed that a starting CB at a major program should have. He has good speed but not great speed. Jordan Thomas is a much better cover corner than Sanchez and JT is the cornerback we can’t afford to lose.
Totally agree. Austin showed he’s consistent at tackling. When we play air raid type offenses who dink and dunk like Baylor. Fundamentally solid tackling is a must.
“he makes as many bad reads as good ones ” Could not disagree more. Not even close imho.
Thanks for getting the scoop Jordan. Glad Zack is okay.
