WR KJ Young No Longer With OU Program

Image via OrangeandWhite.com

We have been able to confirm through multiple sources that redshirt sophomore wide receiver, KJ Young, is no longer with the team. Young is not expected to return to OU.

Young appeared in numerous games for the Sooners last season. We have not received any word on where Young may end up but again, we have confirmed that he is no longer with the team and will not return to OU.

    Another one

  • drew T says:

Any word on why? If you’re able to tell us

    • Super K says:

It’s our understanding that he was dismissed.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Is this from the same situation you all have written of recently with possible 10 players getting disciplined?

  • Barry Duren says:

Looks like one or more of the frosh WR’s are going to get significant playing time.

  • Brad Warren says:

A full scholarship to play football at O freaking U and just can’t play by the rules. What a waste.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Poor decisions from immaturity. Hope he gets it together. Sad.

  • BoomerDave says:

Like I’ve always said, by February 2016, we will have our full allotment (or very close to it) of scholarships available. Attrition always happens, always. Whether it take place naturally or with a little nudge, it happens and will again this time around. Those who think we will only have 14-17 ships to give are simply mistaken.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

    Next man up

  • ratman says:

Not a big loss based on what we saw on the field. Hopefully we recruit way over him??

  • EasTex says:

    I HATE the off season.

    • 22dupree says:

Yeah, me too. Other than this incredible site (thanks guys!), there very little information this time of year. Worse yet, the news we do get is bad, just like this. Fall camp can’t get here fast enough!

  • Tucker says:

Wasn’t a big fan of the kids game, but definitely hate to see it happen. I don’t know the circumstances of his departure, nor am I going to comment on it. I just hope that the next step he takes is the right step.

    • Zack says:

I wasn’t a fan of how we played any of the receivers last year but they definitely played kj out of position. He may have been good in the slot in HS but he was built as more of a second wide out, one that wouldn’t have been doubled often. If it were me I would have switched him and duron Neal because I don’t like the idea of an outside receiver being 5’10. Although shep proved he can do it

  • SoonerfanTU says:

    I liked his potential.

Haven’t looked at the WR numbers, anybody want to provide a listing of scholarship WR’s on the roster next season?

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      Looked it up myself.

      Bennett
      Green
      Humphrey
      Mead
      Miller
      Neal
      Quick
      Shepard
      Smallwood (out with injury)
      Todd
      Westbrook

Can’t afford to lose any additional WR’s, or have any more injuries. I believe Riley said he wanted to play 8 WR’s. We’re going into next season, at this point, with 10 WR’s total that will be able to play.

Shepard and Neal graduate this year, so I’d guess we’d be in on 3-4 WR’s in the next class?

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

And…remember Mixon was said to be working in the slot at times.

        • hOUligan says:

Good to have a player as versatile as Mixon. Figure he will be on the field a lot. They can also put Flowers and D.Wood on the field as Hbacks and Andrews and Meier are ‘hybrid’ WR/TE types as well. Not worried at all. Hate it for Young but players have a responsibility to ‘THE TEAM’, beyond themselves. Gotta get right.

  • Mysterio1 says:

WR is a skill position now where these kids are ready to contribute the day they arrive on campus. Most train 24/7/365, he just didnt show me enough. Other then Shep, none of the receivers did much and thats why Norville is gone.
Sorry, but Oklahoma has to find better receivers to get back to winning football.

    • ouhunter says:

They have a great group of WR’s just think Norville couldn’t multitask OC and WR coaching plus it was time for a new face for those young WR’s plus they also needed a little better QB with a better throwing skill set. Trevor just never has been consistent in the passing game to our WR’s

      • soonerthunder says:

Again, my perception was not Norville or the WRs as much as play-calling. i just think Norville was name-only/raise-in-salary-only OC. Norville was just putting in whatever Heupel told him to. If you don’t give the WRs some advantage, that hurts. It’s the Boykin/TCU WRs of ’13 and ’14. I think it was the system/playcalling allowing them to succeed. Anyway, that’s my perception.

  • John Garner says:

I see down below that K says it’s their understanding (The Brainiacs) that KJ was dismissed. If so, I wonder if it has anything to do with the suspensions reportedly being enforced in the first game?

    • Tucker says:

Very interesting how this has been kept relatively quiet and behind closed doors.

  • Sooner Ray says:

If a player puts himself in a position to be dismissed, it just opens a spot for a hopefully better player to come in. It’s the way I choose to view these situations.

    • EasTex says:

Regardless of the “why,” dismissal is a serious action taken by the Coach/es. Bad influences are detrimental to the team and the program, irrespective of their skills.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Yep, you don’t get dismissed for missing a couple workouts. That has to be a hard decision for a coach.

  • William Ryan says:

Micah Quick looked good the more we worked him in the slot I know he was a little dinged in the spring, but he could be real difference maker this year

  • Steve Harris says:

So, is there ANY information on the multiple suspensions story??

  • Ed Cotter says:

Man, sorry to see KJ Young, a local guy from here in the Inland Empire, So Cal, right where I live, go. Wish him the best of luck. Also, would be nice to know if it was his decision or if he was dismissed. Probably get that info here pretty soon.

  • james babcock says:

My concern is with all the dismissals, transfers, and pending suspensions what impact is going to have on the coming season.what also concerns me with all the player’s leaving is our scholarship numbers we are losing key player’s it’s going to hurt this team.

    • Boom says:

The positive side is we have the scholly for the ATM kid for the secondary. Also, it opens the door for more talented/attitude student athlete who can make a positive impact on the team. Coaches spend to much time on the athlete’s who cause issues so if they are no longer around, coaches & the team can be more productive.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I’ve learned to not concern myself with such things. For every team that has fallen apart because of troubles I have seen a team circle the wagons, gain focus and become better because of them. Sometimes visible troubles are the result of those in charge cleaning house and adding by subtracting. Sometimes when everything looks good on the outside there is a cancer eating away at the core. Since I have no control over what goes on I will sit and watch and root for my Sooners. Here is hoping the young man finds what he needs to have a successful life.

      • james babcock says:

I get what people like you and eas tex are getting and i respect what you guys are saying but it also could go the other way just look at last year.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Oh, I have no doubt that there will be bad years. Notice I said that for every bad one there is a good one, but that means there are a lot of bad ones. But there is enough bad in the world that you don’t need to go looking for it, it will come to you. Heck I have enough examples of it in my own life. In the mean time I would rather focus on the good than worrying about the bad that might happen.

          • SamSooner says:

I’m so glad that there are people like you on here. I agree. Some people need to learn to separate and keep moving.

        • Boom says:

Do you have any idea of how many players left when Stoops showed up?? Talk about transition and impact. Guess what, he got the ones who wanted to be at OU and look what happened to them.

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

        Amen, Bob Edwards. Amen!!!

      • soonerthunder says:

I didn’t see Young ever starting again at OU unless there were major injuries. And, I saw him going further down the depth chart, again, barring major injuries.

  • Stephen says:

Don’t mean this as an insult but KJ never made a huge impact or threatened the defense the whole time he was here. Wish him luck, and hope the next guy up takes the opportunity seriously.

  • hOUligan says:

When do we get to the part where there are some positive updates? Maybe a BOOM?
It sucks whenever there are dismissals. Harkens back to a year ago when Bob had to ‘clean house’ of kids who were not ‘with the program’. But it has to be done and to send the message to the remainder that no one person or group is bigger than the university. Next man up.

  • hemisooner says:

This sucks bc he does have some skills. Hope the kid good luck
