OU Wide Receiver John Humphrey To Transfer

Talented OU redshirt freshman wide receiver John Humphrey announced Wednesday afternoon his intention to transfer via his Twitter account.

It’s a move that certainly comes as a surprise considering much was expected from the speedster heading into his second year on campus after redshirting in 2015. It would be fair to speculate as to the reasons for this move, though at a position with that many bodies and competition things like this are almost inevitable at times.
Either way, Humphrey’s decision to leave the program only further adds to the opportunity at slot receiver following the loss of an all-time program great in Sterling Shepard.
Regardless, best of luck to the young man wherever he eventually winds up.

I won’t lose an ounce of sleep and I don’t think any of you will either. His speed is something all of us want, but the bad case of dropsies caused him to get buried on the depth chart and already get recruited over.

you hearing about any possible transfers that will be happening?
Heard of one a couple of months back. But nothing since.
Not sure what “talents” he is referring to. We saw little to no glimpse of it. He seemed like a good kid, but we want hungry kids who want to be here and that want to compete. More reps for the next guy up.
Come on, the kid is plenty talented, and we don’t really know why he’s leaving. No need to bash him like that.

Without any other information to the contrary, he was not going to crack the two-deep. This is obvious, unless again, other info comes out. If he wasn’t going to get on the field, better for both parties to move on. If you can’t get on the field, the talent has not emerged.

Well, I hate attrition because it almost always means something went wrong somewhere. Not that long ago we were excited about this young man and what he might do here. Sad that it didn’t work out that way and wish him only the best of luck in his future.

I would say so. If he wasn’t going to play then why waste the scholarship? I wish everyone that spent 3 years on campus and saw no playing time would transfer too. With our cachet this receuiting cycle we need to load up on talent so every open spot helps.
Does this mean we take Omar Manning now or are we still technically full at WR?

Disappointing to hear, but best of luck to the young man. I still think we’re about 10 deep at receiver (including Mark Andrews; not including Mixon), it’s just in-game experience we’re lacking. If one of Mykel Jones, Zach Farrar, or Adrian Hardy is good enough for PT, we’ll be fine. Even if those three redshirt, I think we’ll be fine.
2015 Redshirted…named Oklahoma Scout Team Offensive Player of the Year. Early enrollee rated a four-star receiver by ESPN and a three-star receiver by Scout, 247Sports and Rivals. Had offers from Baylor, Clemson and Notre Dame, among others.

He appeared to have the ‘catching’ part down after spring practice. Was set to work on ‘running’ w the ball in fall camp. Was seriously looking to get his speed on the field but it appears he was behind a few people and didn’t want to wait. Best of luck and hope he does good things wherever he lands.

Disappointed..as others mentioned, losing Scout Team POY is a big loss. He was able to fire against our 1’s, with a back up QB.

Sucks to lose him but I wish him well as long as he doesn’t put on that awful burnt Poopy Orange colored jersey. I wonder if the team has a good sense of the depth chart now and that’s why he’s transferring? Hoping Jordan Smallwood aka Dez can stay healthy and be an impact player
