Another early kickoff in what many are expecting to be a potentially tough game for the Sooners to pull out, even as the home team. Despite the 11am start time, it should be a pretty live atmosphere with the Striping of the Stadium and what not.

This game today will determine our season win today we have great season lose and we lose 4 or 5 games.
It shouldn’t be this way. Since 2013, we haven’t been OU. Up until 2013 we were expected to compete for national titles, now we are worried about winning a game in Norman. Do we have less talent now? I want the OU circa 2000-2012. The dominant Sooners to show up.
Agree with you we need to get back to being dominating we need this game bad today.

Pass D still needs some work
We just don’t do zone coverage very well. I’m not sure why, but almost every big pass play against us today we were in zone.
Good god people, they have 150 in total offense. Of course there will be a handful of plays given up, I don’t care what level it is. This has been an extremely well played defensive show.
YES! You are going to give up a play every once in a while. We’ve played really good in the first half. Be happy, be ready for some more in the second.
3rd and 20+ and we let a guy get that open? We gotta be better than that. It wasn’t some great play by them, it was poor defense.
Yea, you are right. Find the bad play and say we suck. Show me a game where that never happens.
Where did I say we suck? And no, not every team gives up back to back 3rd and 20’s.
It’s poor eye discipline often and sometimes poor route recognition. The more the same guys are out there playing together in zone and once they start getting eyes on receivers more and a little less on the qb they will be better. The Seahawks call it “keeping your eyes on your luggage”
Just a couple of plays given up. Could very well have been this call dialed up. The O still gets a vote and will win one from time to time.
Only 12 yards per completion and most came off 4 catches, but 5.2 yards per attempt is not bad considering what TU did, and against what many said was a better team! The penalties has hurt more than anything!
He watches games to find anything wrong possible. He knows so much it’s a shame that our coaches don’t listen to him more.
3rd and long! the last 3 yrs have just driven me crazy. play very well against just about any team and cannot stop other teams from getting a 1st down

Two pretty lame big penalties against WVU as well. The push off pass interference and the qb roughing were lame calls.
at least the trash calls are going both ways. I really wish Romar would learn how to use his hands without putting them in someone’s facemask

Agree. The roughing the passer shouldn’t have been called. But I didn’t think our roughing the passer should have been either. NCAA has to find a way to get this stuff called more consistently next season.

Baker has been excellent as far as being careful with the ball, and with the exception of the one pass behind a wide open Mead (I think Mead should have been able to hold on to it anyway), has made some very accurate throws.

I used to spend the entire weekend plus Monday night watching football non-stop. Now I only watch OU on Saturday and Dallas on Sunday. So disheartening.

Arrived home too late to watch live, and just finished watching the recording Really strong game by the defense. WVU QB “Sky” brought down to Earth today. Lots of penalities, holy cow. Very few running lanes for Perine, but there’s time for improvement. Great win for Sooners!

If this OU team could learn to get out of its own way, it could be a special season. We HAVE to eradicate the brain farts. Personal fouls, dropped passes, missed assignments. All can be corrected quickly and easily. This is where I want to see improvement moving forward. We have been our toughest competition so far.

A win at home with some big plays has to look good to the visiting recruits. Hope we don’t get that officiating crew again. Let Baylor and TCU get them. Most of our penalties are correctable. Feel we need to tweak our play calling a little to protect our QB behind a raw OL. But will take a 20 point win over a ranked and solid team anyday.
The refs were right on the unsportsmanlike penalties unfortunately and there were so many that it was ridiculous, and must be fixed. I know some will disagree but Sanchez still makes a lot of rookie errors and mistakes for a guy with his experience. Everything else was significantly improved and we looked very good at times on both defense and offense and the special teams play is very good. The secondary was much improved as well. Impressive game. They made good use of their 2 weeks off. WE’RE BAAAAACK!
I think a couple were borderline, honestly. Most games, several of those would have gone uncalled, on both sides. When they miss several obvious calls, like a facemask on a sack we had, and the Karl Joseph targeting in the first half, it invalidates all the ticky-tack crap that they kept calling. That’s what makes them a bad officiating crew, IMO.
I only caught the 4th Q so maybe I missed alot of the game, but he had some incredible plays when I watched. That last deep ball was downright nasty. He’s infuriating but somehow delivers when it counts. I am pleasantly surprised on how the DBs played!
They missed the blatant targeting on Dede on our first series, and they missed almost all the constant holding by WV on our OLBers. They constantly had their hands outside the shoulders.
Otherwise, they called a consistent game, just very, very tight.
Too tight. They need to let them play. But I think they did that because of what happened before the game started.
Wasn’t it just jawing, though? No sense in over compensating because a couple of players challenge each other.
It was pretty intense jawing and took coaches and cops to break it up.
What did Sanchez do wrong exactly. It amazes me how many haters are here for him. Any of you ever wonder what this def would look like without him? Is he an AA? No. But it floors me how many people think he shouldn’t even be on the field.
We have what we have. Would it be better to have an AA on the other side of him? Of course. But be realistic. He makes plays and has some misses but bottom line we’d be in deep you know what without him.

I think Zach Sanchez needs to wake up and give full effort on every play. He has NFL potential but he takes plays off. I think he got full on himself after his Freshman year. Teams are now starting to pick on him. The no longer respect him and for good reason. He can’t just show up and coast on his rep any more.
Striker and Thomas should get game balls. Would also give Seibert one too. He has been every bit as advertised.

We better get up on them early and often so they have nothing to give the rest of the game. If we clean up our penalties then we should kick the crap out of them in the first qtr. Yeah, the referee seems to be pretty self-impressed with his guns. Loves the attention of making the calls and showing off his arms.
In the officials’ defense, they are instructed by the NCAA/Big XII to call games in that manner. Unsportsmanlike and “protect the player” penalties are a point of emphasis these days. The players have to adjust. I don’t like it any more than any of you do but the officials will throw the flag. Every. Time. As I type this, the officials in the KSU/OSU game just completely blew a targeting call on a sliding QB.

I disagree with the announcers. It was a defenseless player, and you cannot hit them.
QBs are off limits as soon as they start their slide. The blow to the dome was an extra no-no. Shocking that nothing was called.

OL play is still not coming together in the run game. Not gonna cut it against better defenses.
To me it seemed like the blitzing really hurt them. 2 questions: Will they see another defense that blitzes this much? Will they see a better defense all year before a bowl?
One big problem was that Brown was not picking up the blitz man. He kept blocking into the line instead of moving to his left and picking up the LBer.
Team just needs to keep gelling and getting better. The offense is still not clicking on all cylinders. Defense still needs to her better. But they beat a WV team that was supposed be their greatest challenge by 20 points. The potential is definitely there for this team. Maturity and games will do wonders.
So, I figured out how OU can have success the rest of the year. I just need to not watch the game and forget to DVR it.

That middle is always open, and he is a beast. But, when Riley has all those weapons, folks can get lost. Lets hope he finds a helluva groove (speaking of Riley)!!!
Indeed. I think Andrews will play an increasingly bigger role with each game. But I do like a lot of players being utilized to keep their heads in the game and motivate them at practice. Builds great unity. Andrews will be a crunch time player by November.

Game today showed that the defense really has taken a step forward from last season. They didn’t lose their edge even when the opposing offense got some quick hits. By the way, I just LOVE seeing OSU and Texas play terrible football! Boomer!

Great game. Wasn’t as close as score indicated. Most of the damage came on unexpected situations. Power runs on 3rd and long, QB naked bootleg for a 50 yd TD? Come on, those plays really took away from how well the defense played.

I would love to see OU line up in that Power I formation once in awhile. The zone read isn’t ideal for Perine, and the holes usually aren’t there anyway. Just let him hit the line at full speed and knock a few people back.
Don’t forget we practically gifted them their 1st touchdown. 50 of the 86 yards WVU gained on that drive were by penalty – 45 of which were for personal fouls. The lack of discipline was unbelievable.

If that’s how it really went down….no excuse for that.
The refs that called our game have been horrible for 2 straight weeks. I was just confused how they were catching personal fouls in the trenches (hands to the face and the striker facemask) but they didn’t see the target on Westbrook.
Then on a punt return, there was a block in the back and a hold…which the block was flagged but not by the official who had a clear view of the play.
And the late hit call on baker was a clear make up call for one they missed on the previous drive.
The Officials office reviewed the texsa/okie game and commended the refs. Maybe it’s the Officials office that needs reviewing.
How many of the penalties called in the OU game weren’t in fact penalties? I can only think of one roughing the passer on each team that I really thought shouldn’t have been. Everything else seemed legit. Time for teams to start playing cleaner, IMO.
There were an excessive amount of calls. You can call a penalty on every play. But that game had no rhythm, no flow IMO be of all the penalties & the excessive amount of time in reviews.. EXCESSIVE. That was the longest game I ve been at in a very long time … Incl Tenn double OT

Is it too early to get onto Texass? In 2013, we came in 4-0 also. This team needs extra focus this week and focus on the run. This game today really helped out though. I don’t think we’ll see a team more committed to blitzing than WV and we scored 35 points on offense against them.

Today, the offense was facing 6-7 in the box and they were coming down hill. I thought the line did a great job of giving Mayfield time to throw. It was a lot harder than it looked. All in all, we are going to have to be patient. There isn’t a need to run the ball to move it.
WVU was 100% committed to stopping the run and go 1 on 1 with there DB’s. Once teams really start respecting OU’s passing attacking and defending that then Perine and Mixon are going to run wild just wait and watch.

I disagree. I think the OL is good, they were just being outnumbered. In addition, Flowers is no Ripkowski.
Yeah, Flowers is having some growing pains. But man, replacing Trey and Rip is next to impossible. Those guys were special.
Not down on Flowers, he just doesn’t seem to have that killer instinct as a blocker like Trey and Rip did.
He’ll improve, but I dont think he’ll be as effective as his predecesors, and he won’t be used as much in this offense. But I do thnk he’ll contribute in a good way.
Flowers missed two blatant blocks that lead to sacks. He was confused on assignments. Also, Andrews needs someone to wake him up. On the 3rd down play, he was supposed to chip and then go into his route. He barely put his hands on the guy and that same guy never broke stride and killed Mayfield. We had to kick a FG. Of all the plays, blown ref calls, the Andrews play was the most disappointing to me.

I’d like to see Perine line up deeper in the backfield on a few plays. WVU ran the Power I a few times, and I think it suits Sam. And let’s not deny that we could have used Keith Ford. He’s quicker than Sam and MIx, and he’s more powerful than Brooks. Always hate it when a situation doesn’t work out for such a promising talent, but that’s how it goes.
I’d certainly like to see a handful of runs from the I-formation for Perine. He needs that head of steam..
Yes. There’s been a similar situation happening in Minny with AD early this season, aligning him next to QB for the zone read. He’s done much better when they line him up in the I formation. AD don’t need no stinking zone – he needs the ball!

I saw him get off of the cart and walk into the locker room very gingerly. He wasn’t happy looking…also saw Bond walking in limping on his left foot/ankle. No real news, I know, but this is what I personally saw. I also saw Mike Stoops hugging Levi Draper and Chip Viney walking Draper around campus.

It was a great game. The fans in my section weren’t the loudest but that didn’t stop my nephew and me from being as loud as we possibly could. It was tough to do in the 3rd qtr. when there really didn’t seem to be much to cheer for and it didn’t seem to matter to WVU that the crowd was loud anyway. Baker’s pick was totally on him, but he should get a free pass every once in awhile, especially when WVU was hammering him every chance they got. WVU’s players are a special kind of dirty, and the refs were terrible. Karl Joseph should have been ejected in the 1st qtr. Also, the Star Wars section of the halftime show was glorious.
I heard from a couple people that the tribute to the ’85 team was completely botched. What were your thoughts on it?
It was really tough to see anything unless you watched it on the big screen. There were just too many people crowded around to figure out what was going on. I think it would have been better if they would have all been spaced out so that everyone could see them, but as it was, they were all huddled up and you couldn’t really see any of them. I agree. It was botched.

There’s nothing official on Walker. However, as mentioned by Toats, he was seen getting off golf cart, walking gingerly and not looking happy. His reaction on field of pounding the turf leads me to believe it’s serious and he knew it immediately. Hope I’m wrong of course.

Oklahoma scored 0.75 of a point per offensive play WVU scored 0.28. Very efficient offence on our part, pretty good defense on our part they just had a lot more plays than we did.

I think it was just the way the game went down, OU only rushed the ball 33 times as a team.

I saw the Riley interview where he said he made a lot of mistakes in play calling and he needed to correct it. Do you think it is related to calling run plays when outnumbered in the box? We ran Perine into the box when outnumbered several times and it just killed our offensive flow. WVU was just plain determined to stop the run, yet we didn’t take what they gave up (enough). Just curious if anyone saw anything else Riley could be talking about?
Why not pass to the RB in the flat? Screens? None of that happened. I’m a huge fan of Riley and he’s a great hire. However, I was confused with what he was trying to do in the 3Q. We also didn’t help ourselves either.
