Iowa State loves to get going with the quick game. Would love to see OU come in and immediately take away the hitch and the slant and force Iowa State to make throws they aren’t comfortable with.

You call it negativity, I call it reality. I’ve watched every game just like you probably have. And the last three games they’ve done the same things that haven’t worked. So why would I believe today will be different? Just b/c I want it to be?
You can think like that if you’d like, just like I can have my opinion on how things might go.
If you want nothing but sunshine pumping or someone to tell you everything is going to be okay even if it isn’t, then there is definitely a site I can recommend for you where you’ll get that.
I have an opinion, I choose to voice it. You have the right to do the exact same. I respect your right to do so, all I’d ever ask is that you do the same.
It’s OU football man. We only get to watch 12 or so games a year. I choose to enjoy the experience even if the results aren’t perfect. In my opinion, your continuous negativity is really harming this site.
I respectfully disagree. I don’t see any point in glossing over the reality of things just b/c they only play 12 or so games a year. What does that accomplish? What do you gain by being told by me, or anyone, that everything is great just b/c they’re playing games if the team isn’t playing well?
I suspect we’re never going to see eye to eye b/c I’m not changing who I am as a fan and I’m sure you aren’t either.
So if you haven’t already (and I suspect you have), feel free to not read my stuff. Unfortunately, that’s really the only option I see available to us at this point.
just be aware that positioning yourself as the one seeing “reality” and those who disagree as “sunshine pumping” isn’t the only way to look at it. 🙂

I’m more than willing to listen to an argument as to why I should expect something different from this OU defense today vs. what we’ve seen them run the past three games.
IMO, you (or anybody for that matter) don’t have one other than you either (1) want them to do something different or (2) think they will just because.
I’m NOT saying you’re wrong and I’m right. What I am saying is I’m not going to stop being who I am as a fan simply b/c you don’t like it. I’ll talk/write positive about the team when I feel they deserve it. Evidently you missed my glowing review of Sterling Shepard’s season from earlier this week.
As tired as you are of what you feel is me always being negative, I’m tired of being pigeon holed as that person when I can point to any number of examples that disprove this theory.

I didn’t see anything wrong with what Jordan said. During the KSU game I’m pretty sure you weren’t smiling saying” well darn it ol hunnicutt gave it his best”. the great thing about college football is the emotional Rollercoaster you are on during a game. Good and bad I know Jordan loves the Sooners .try not focusing on only his negative comments because the positive out weighs them by a tremendous amount. And boomer to you sir!

on the coach’s chat show, Montgomery sounded like he intended/wanted to be more aggressive with qb rush…it was a “we need to be who we are,” sort of statement. Pretty much coach speak so no idea how that will translate…
I hope so. I know that’s the way he prefers to coach, but ultimately Mike & Bob have final say-so on the defensive game plan.

The front line moves forward like theyre going to try for a block but then just stands there and watches for fakes rather than trying to get back to block for the return. So we get no blocks and no punt returns. Why have they completely given up on returning punts?

Hello good Huepel where have you been all year? Same with defense. If we had this offensive play calling and this swarming defense all year we are still undefeated. Thats what is so darn irritating.
I don’t think JH called up two pick six pass plays, though.

Maybe. But he had pressure coming and was in his own endzone. Definitely dont believe JH put TK in the best position to succeed on that play and quite a few times this year.
I’ve looked at that play several times, TK wasn’t under so much duress that he couldn’t have thrown it away. The DB and WR were the only two in the general area.
I guess. But he still doesnt want to take a safety. Regardless thats a huge no no in football and JH called that play. Listen to the announcers after that play. Knight isnt the first person they go after.
Here is my issue EasTex. Look how efficient we are with TK9 running the ball. We all said how good our o is when he is able to actually run the zr. But it took JH til now to take the reigns off? Thats bad coaching. You cant afford to lose games and especially when you are handicapping our qb by not letting him use his best asset, his legs. To me he has handicapped the offense up until now and it cost us 2 games.
I understand what you’re saying, I still contend that Kst pick six was on TK, not the play call.
I don’t know why OU has done or not done certain things on both sides of the ball, but I believe the coaches have sound reasons for what they do.
And I agree about the coaches. But why unleash Knight now after 2 losses? Is it ok if he gets hurt now? Its just perplexing to me. Every game counts and we wait til now to unleash him.
Can’t say, just a fan and spectator. Other than his two pick sixes, a couple of missed kicks and failure to get critical first downs in those two games and the Sooners are undefeated. Could his running have made a difference? We will never know.
For sure a flat pass on your own 3 yard line is not a typical call at that place on the field but TK has got to see the press coverage developing and throw the ball away. For certain Heupel’s mentality is to try and out think opponents and catch them off-guard. Unfortunately the risk/reward of too many of his decisions go awry.
I didn’t see anything wrong with the call, if the WR is open. That side of the field had been cleared out, I assume by the alignment, which could have resulted in a big play. TK has got to get a better grasp of when to throw or just throw it away.

So looking at the stats so far…Perine needs to get up to 100+ yards and we will have 3 100+-yard rushers in this game which is pretty awesome.

I think we are much better on defense when we attack and press coverage. Also, running TK9 really opens up the offense and stresses that defense to account for the 11th guy. Why haven’t we been doing this all year long?
I expect Iowa State to apply more pressure on defense and attempt more long balls (if they have time) and use a few more screens.
Let’s not flip out if the 2nd half is a little worse for OU. I imagine we’ll go pretty conservative on OU with Shepard out, and a couple other players banged up. No reason to risk getting Knight banged up when you are up this much either. I expect a relatively vanilla O in the 2H. If we maintain the lead, maybe Thomas can get the 4Q snaps.
Would love to see us batter them in the second half with Perine, Perine, & more Perine. Somewhere north of 500yds on the ground would work.

Don’t want to be a downer, but too many dropped passes today. Otherwise, I really liked what I saw today from the offense.
Quick needs to get it together or he won’t see any more playing time this year. TK was throwing it very well but Neal and even Bell dropped some as well. Amazing to see us finally use Knight as God intended, and his instincts as to when to hand it off were excellent- the best since the Alabama game. And coupled with him selling the handoff’s really well it fooled their defense time after time. Misdirection is the name of the game. One of those dropped passes was a blatant interception call that the Refs missed right in the middle of the field, I should note. Can’t believe our guys still let people get behind them so easily on passes but it was only once in this game. As good as he is Sanchez fixates on the QB’s eyes in the hope of an interception sometimes, and lets the receiver blow right past him. You could make a highlight reel of just Zack desperately trying to run people down after he gets burned. We need better tackling from special teams on kick returns as well. Actually we need better tackling on a lot of plays. And I wish we would try to block punts instead of freezing. Our best all around game in a long time though, and we were a very powerful offense again that was even better then last weeks. We can beat anyone when we play like today, and play smart football!

Two things, IMO, are keeping Ross from being an All American type back. Lacks the ability to see lanes developing and lacks the ability to stop and start (quick change of direction).
I agree with you on that. One thing I have noticed with Ross since the WVU game is he now keeps churning his legs when he makes contact. In the first few games as soon as someone touched him his legs stopped moving. A big improvement IMHO.
Quick change of direction is not indicate of most 6’1″ running backs. Hence most are RBs are 5’9″-5’11”. When you get one that is 6’1″, 221 like Ross with vision and quickness they can be big time NFL RBs. Think AD 6’1″, 217. Those are far and few between.

I think his vision has gotten better but he just doesn’t have shiftiness. He needs to watch Arian foster and run with that kind of patience because he’s starting to see holes but he’s not capable of making multiple cuts.
He is getting better seeing the field, but like you say, has no quick cut and acceleration after he’s been slowed down. I’m glad the coaches are finally playing to his strength by getting him the ball in space.

I had a GSXR-750. It wasn’t stock, either, put a lot of time/work/parts into that bike. Nippon six pots in the front, fours in the back, the Power Commander brought out the ponies the factory left on the table.
It would go, it would whoa and handled great. Though I have lusted over the Busa since they first came out, I stuck with the 750 because it just suited me so well being powerful, fast and nimble.
I’ve ridden sport bikes since the early 70’s, my first being a Honda 750K. I rode in Tokyo, Manila and many major cities in the U.S. Had lots of close calls, but never got hit or laid it down.

I hope Shepard is okay, but a silver lining to his injury today has to be that it forced Knight to pass to a number of other WR. They didn’t play perfectly by any means, but it had to be a confidence boost for them to get some more targets. It also forced Knight to try working through progressions and Heupel to let him run some more.
Sure takes away the deep threat when he is out.
yeah, it definitely does, but what was really missing from Knight’s game was the deep middle and some quick outs. I’m not saying that it’s a good thing not to have Shepard in there (that’s why it’s only a silver lining), but it was a good see Knight succeed with some different throws and different WR.

Who do you take the minutes away from Perine, Ross or Ford? It is a good problem to have. Despite the fact that one of them might be motivated to transfer because of playing time.
He is too talented to not play at all or in mop up time and yes, it is a good problem. Going forward to next year there will be two more outstanding RBs joining the ones we have now.
Well he could have gotten touches for about 4/5 games now since ford has been out. I don’t know that brooks or smith would transfer at this point. Both do deserve playing time but I don’t think either have legit shots at the nfl so being a part of the team they wanted to be on and try to compete for titles is probably more important than transferring.

Thanks for sharing the highlight reel I missed the david smith drive but glad he got some time and looks like he deserves more and hopefully we will have a couple more games where we get up big and can see him play.
A few things stood out after going back and watching the highlights. One is we put up 59 points (while taking our foot off the gas for the last 20 minutes of game time) and we didn’t play a flawless game. Had we played even better stoops would have had to call off the dogs after the first drive of the 2nd half. Two is that this defense showed up in the front 7 but the safeties need to catch a couple of those gimmies next week if Baylor throws some ducks. Hytari has probably got the worst hands in football. Three we need shep and ford healthy going forward but with shep missing the game gave us a look at kj young at the outside (which I’ve been saying since week 3 needed to happen) and he performed pretty well out there. He doesn’t have the hips or fluidity to be in the slot. And Neal needs to be played in the slot still.
All in all it was a good game and hopefully got us our confidence back in time to roll through the last month of football.
I would add TK has got to quit throwing to the wrong colored jerseys.
Thank you for mentioning that I forgot about adding him to the discussion. He made a lot of nice plays but those 2 ints would be costly vs Baylor. But honestly I wouldn’t have a problem with 2 picks in a game as long as the defense starts creating turnovers. This defense should average 3 turnovers forced per game.
I heard the knowitalls talking on the sports animal saying they believe the qb job will be an open competition going into the spring but if TK doesn’t lay a couple eggs then I think the job is his and should be. I don’t buy into the mayfield hype and right now knight has the most experience and I expect him to play well to close out this season.
I think TK will continue to improve. He has shown us what he is capable of. I think he, like so many other QBs I’ve seen over the years, fall in love with their arm and think they can put it any where at any time.
He has to learn, like in the Frog and Kst game, that mistakes like that hurt the entire team.

On those highlights you can see where he basically had a first down but cut back to his left (I assume thinking he had blockers there) but had he gone right he probably would have scored.

I think gundy is going to try to jump ship this year and I don’t blame him. I think he’s a good coach but osu is limited on how far they can really go. Florida will likely be open and if they take Mullins them miss st would be open and both jobs are better than osu at this point.
Mullen turned down the Gators once already before they hired Will F-Bomb. With what he has built at StarkVegas I don’t think he will leave….at least not now.

It will take awhile for us to top ole miss or Georgia even though Georgia has 2 bad losses now. But ole miss shouldn’t have been #4 and auburn shouldn’t have been 3rd (I am the most anti auburn person here I’m sure and it’s just because they are simply overrated.) tcu and ksu need to move up on that committee vote, they set the sec up for a lot of top 10 matchups, they need to do the same for the big 12 which is rated the second best conference and not far behind the sec.
I forgot, LSU has two losses…ugly ones. They do seem to be playing much better now than at the start of the season.

From what I remember in his recruiting he is actually a combo of all 3 of our backs. He is more elusive than Ross, but not quite as straight line fast. He can run physically, but not like Perine and he has good vision and catches the ball out of the backfield well like Ford, but his vision is probably not as good as Ford’s.
Mixon would be more like what demarco was after his injury. He’s not as fast as demarco but should be able to do everything else. If mixon is special then I see him as the backup to ford at the beginning of next year. And you’re right I think perine, ford and ross will all play on Sundays.
Zach, Demarco didn’t lose any speed after injury. He ran a 4.41 at NFL combine which was one of the fastest times. Hope Mixon can match Demarco’s injury time.
I wasn’t trying to refer to Demarco’s speed but I would say pre injury he was in the 4.3 range. I don’t think mixon is sub 4.5 though. But just his style with being a real all purpose guy will be a lot like demarco.
One guy people need to look out for is Anderson. I don’t think he’s getting enough praise and he’s been timed at 4.44 with similar skill set to mixon.

No question ISU did not have the athletes but question the shackles on TK until the team was out of the conference & natl title chase……..and , yes, the coaches didn’t want TK taking risks running–but– he did it yesterday and the coaches didn’t yank him…. Thoughts as to why NOW rather than when it mattered ??
I think against kstate yes. But tcu probably not so much the zone read keepers would have helped as just better play calling all around. Also would have helped had the defense played well early on then the offense wouldn’t have had to take on all the pressure.
Not sure why now they decided to run tk more. And I don’t get why they have to wait until they play kstate each year to steal from their playbook. They should steal from kstate’s play book every week.
No, I really don’t wonder that. As was mentioned above, we scored plenty of points in both of those games. I chalk those losses up to untimely turnovers, the D, and special teams.
By far the main reason was what I-state was presenting defensively. You will remember that it was the same last year. Trevor ran for over 100 on them then as well.
I don’t believe Trevor running the ball more equates to us winning the KState & TCU games.. We scored 30 in both.. That should be enough.. If we don’t wait till halftime to start making defensive adjustments, if we actually work on defending the wide splits following the WVU game. Then we probably beat TCU & KState both by 7-10.. But we didn’t & here we are trying to salvage 10-2 & a good bowl game out of a season that should’ve been firmly in the 4 team playoff..
WVU didn’t use wide splits, we didn’t see that until the Frogs.
With the Frogs OU was more concerned with Boykin’s running and not his arm.
Kst did close their splits after the D-line made an adjustment.
From my perspective, mistakes cost us those two games, i.e. pick sixes, missed FGs, blocked PA and failure to gain one yard for first downs.
This is a very good OU team, but mistakes have cost them dearly.
Even with all of the things that could have been better, OU is one or at most two plays from being in the top picture. I noticed that one of the Fox analysts went so far as to say that minus a couple of mistakes, OU is playing like the best team in the country. (and that was before the second half.)

Ou would have won both games had the defense played aggressive or had mike called aggressive plays. There is no reason to bring only 3 guys and not be able to contain a qb or give up big plays. I don’t understand why we don’t bring 5 every single time. With striker and Grissom you either have to max protect or let go of the ball in less than 3 seconds and probably quicker than that. And if our coverage can’t hold up for 3 seconds that’s unacceptable. And if they max protect which is what they did occasionally, then 6 guys in coverage should be able to cover the 3 eligible receivers.
For those who may not have seen this play, it is a low down dirty shame that Treadwell got hurt and didn’t score the game winner. My best wishes and a hopes for a full recovery to Treadwell.

Yes, it was horrible. Certainly can’t blame the kid at all for dropping that ball when a bone in his leg snapped. At first, I thought it was a horse collar, but I don’t think the AU player did anything intentional. I sure hope the break is something that will heal up 100%, and there isn’t severe tissue damage. AU, once again, got very, very lucky.
I still thought Miss. had scored, but the replay was pretty clear he let go of the ball inches before he crossed the plane. His injury made me cringe, and I hope he’s going to be okay.
That play was a double punch to the gut for Ole Miss.
What could have been the game winning score wasn’t and they lose their best WR for the season.

Treadwell’s twitter has blown up since last night with well wishers from every where including their division opponents.
Yeah, I’ve really become a fan of his after watching him deliver on his recruiting star hype. Seems like a really good kid, and wish him well.

Yes. It was down to those two games for those two time slots/ The other matchup is probably a bit more attractive. Sucks. This OU/Baylor game was suppose to be a really big game. Plus I’m going, and I’m not a morning person. Oh well. Beat Baylor and be home by dinner time.

Can someone explain to me wtf we are doing on punt return? No rush at all and we only fair catch. We are just allowing their punter all the time in the world to get off his best punt with absolutely no fear of a rush and no fear of a return. Thought Boulware might change this but it is the same ole same ole. I simply don’t understand, if you are not going to return a punt then why don’t you at least put a rush on every once in a while. To me this is symptomatic of our total game philosophy – we are in fail-safe mode instead of turning the horses loose.
I would agree esp when pr’s arguably saved our ass a few times over the last couple of yrs……….it’s like saunders moved on and we don’t even try……the opponents punt team is all over the receiver many times with few, if any, blockers in the area
I don’t remember every punt return from yesterday, but the first 2-3 were certainly not returnable. I don’t think we’re in “fair catch” mode as often as people think, I just think people have punted well against us. Or poorly, depending on how you look at it.
That is part of my point. If we don’t put any attempt at rushing the punter then they have no pressure and can take the time they need to get a late punt off with plenty of hang time which makes it unreturnable. Makes punting well against us pretty easy.
For most of the season I thought we were preventing teams from pulling off a fake. That theory was blown up yesterday when they almost gave one up. I have no clue what we’re doing there.

tale of 2 ou rb recruits, strange how things go………last yr, ou was hot in the running for mixon and nathan starks and when mixon chose us ucla jumped on starks…….last nite starks is on the field for the bruins and mixon is signed up for community service and sweating the fallout from the possible release of a nasty video while waiting for his chance next yr….
…….on another site, read where baylor’s petty is throwing the red meat out which is good……….in the post-game presser he answered every reporter’s question no matter what was asked with, “ready for ou”……
I must admit I’m surprised, though I probably shouldn’t be, that LSU moved ahead of OU when they had a bye week and we trounced ISU.

Petty’s stats across the board are down but probably because they are more balanced. What Petty is not, is a running QB.
Baylor’s defense doesn’t play as well on the road or maybe home offenses play better at home.
The OU offense is hitting its stride and the D should be up to the task with no running QB.
Well, I guess this is our game plan for a Big XII championship…
OU/loses to TCU & K-state
Baylor/loses to WVU & OU
TCU/loses to Baylor & K-state
WVU/loses to OU & TCU

SI London……………frankly this is another game where the Sooners need solid performances from both both sides of the LOS plus a solid special teams game on all fronts. Because OU gave away two games, my inclination is to take Baylor by 2-3 td’s , however, OU could win if it cuts out the mind-numbing stupid plays, and can generate a turnover or two. If WV could beat the Bears, OU can do likewise…Problem is, WHICH OU team and staff show up ?? the one we saw yesterday or the one we saw against Texas, KST, TCU ???
Sooners are capable. This is the still a team 5 points from the top spot. They have the talent. Hopefully, they show up with the plan.

No way baylor beat’s us buy two or three touchdown’s but i do agree with you about the coaching you never know what coaching show’s up each game but the sooner’s have more pure talent than baylor there is more sooner’s on this team that will play in the n.f.l than baylor has that will make it so no way we don’t win this game unless big game bob get’s in his way but i see the sooner’s winning this game but with coaching staff you never just know

If our backers read their keys, OU can make Petty’s life difficult. Can’t double Cannon, other receivers are very good as well. Like most QB’s not named Manning, if you bust Petty’s chops a few times, he’ll make bad decisions and / or throws. Let’s see how they do against a 3 headed monster in OU’s backfield plus TK running and throwing.
