Open Post | Weekend, Sept. 18th – 20th (UPDATE Fri., 1:18 pm)

Team News | Ty Darlington: Many of you may have seen the report from News 9’s Dean Blevins this past Monday stating Darlington would likely miss this weekend’s game against Tulsa. Darlington was asked by the media about the reported injury following Tuesday’s practice, which he did not take part in,  and declined to give a definitive answer regarding his status.

I have spoken with a source who tells me Darlington did practice on Thursday, however his reps were reduced. I was also told that Nila Kasitati practiced on Thursday, but had reduced reps as well.

At this point I honestly don’t feel confident making a prediction as to whether or not either will play on Saturday. It’s obviously somewhat encouraging that both did at least practice, even if they were limited, but at the same time I can see why the coaches would potentially hold them out for this game, especially with a bye week coming up. – (Super K)

Weekend Official Visitors: We have been able to confirm the Sooners are expected to host three official visitors this weekend: 2016 OU commit Ryan Parker & Westfield (Houston, TX) teammates WR Tyrie Cleveland and DT Ed Oliver. – (Brandon & Super K)

Needless to say, getting Cleveland and Oliver to Norman this weekend is an important first, and necessary, step in potentially getting OU’s foot in the door for both.

Jordan Parker: OU is looking to take one more cornerback and it seems they have focused in on Parker (Pittsburg, CA) being that guy. I caught up with Parker earlier this week , who let me know that his official visit for the West Virginia game is still on.

Parker said following that game, he will take one more official visit which will be to Arizona State. Following that visit he is planning to announce his decision. So it sounds like the Sooners will know their fate rather soon.

I asked Parker if there was a coach from all the different schools that are recruiting him with which he is really close, Parker responded “I’m closest to coach (Chip) Viney”. – (Super K)

Charleston Rambo: 2017 WR Charleston Rambo (Cedar Hill, TX) earned his OU offer live and in person at one of the Sooners’ camps this past summer. I caught up with the talented receiver prospect and it seems he and coach Simmons are building a great relationship. Rambo tells me that he and Simmons have, “been talking everyday since September 1st.” Which was the first day coaches could contact 2017 recruits.

The Sooners already have a couple top 2017 commits and appear to be looking for another. Rambo said, “as of now, they (OU) have shown me the most love out of all of my offers…” Rambo expects to be at the OU vs. Texas game. He also said he’s going to work to set up an unofficial visit to Norman for a game this season. – (Brandon)

A Top Recruit’s Reaction to Striker: As most of you know by now, Eric Striker had a few words to say to Tennessee fans and some of the recruits in attendance this past weekend in Knoxville. One of the people that had a front row seat to Striker’s ‘rant’ was star 2017 DB Deangelo Gibbs (Suwanee, GA). As we noted recently, Gibbs plans on making a visit out to OU and has been in regular touch with Kerry Cooks.

Gibbs was at Neyland Stadium to witness the spectacular comeback. Gibbs said, “They both fought hard and they both had their ups and downs…I give credit to OU for fighting back hard…it showed me that they are disciplined and they never give up.”

When I asked Gibbs if he heard what Striker yelled, he laughed and said yes. I asked him what he thought of it and he said he though it was “hilarious.” – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (Fri., 8:43 am): Also wanted to mention it’s a pretty big visitor weekend for Lon Kruger and staff as well. The Sooners are expecting to host 2016 commits Kameron McGusty & Matthew Freeman as well as a pair of talented 2017 targets in PFs Brady Manek & Ethan Chargois.
