Some are saying this has a chance to be a little bit of a trap game for the Sooners. Fortunately (for some) we won’t have to wait long to find out with the 11(ish)am kickoff on Fox Sports 1.
Time to go to work.

BOOMER!!!!
SOONER! ! ! ! !
Darlington is a no-go.
Kasitati is going to go thru warmups and see how things feel, but don’t be at all surprised if he doesn’t play today.
What was Kasitati’s ailment?
Foot? Memory’s a bit foggy this am
I foresee the Sooners game planning around Perine. Tulsa’s rush defense is suspect, therefore accentuate the running game and keep Tulsa’s offense off the field.
(do I have time to make my White Bean Chicken Chili before kickoff?)
Good call Oscar. Not sure I would use the term suspect for Tulsa’s run defense (262 yrds per game)…..more like non-existent. And that was vs. FAU and New Mexico. Just sayin’.
LOL. I should have used quotation marks around suspect.
If it has beans in it, it ain’t chili.
/just sayin
What, Tater Tot Chili?
Chili with “floaters” are okay, including beans and tots.
So, are you OK with Chicken Chili as long as it doesn’t have beans in it?
Don’t know, never had it or seen it.
Chili stands on its own, adding “floaters” on top after it is served is a perfectly acceptable preference. 🙂
Ought to give it a try. Pretty good but I consider it more of a soup than chili. But, I’m a traditionalist, I don’t put hamburger meat in chili either.
It’s pretty popular here in the SE. Basic recipe is a can of chicken breast, a can of navy beans, and some roi tel. You can option off of that.
Stick with CASI rules and you’ll be okay.
I’m already okay.
Sooner Sports Gameday on FSSW right now…
Best part about 11 am kickoffs is socially acceptable morning beers. Boomer
Good job last night, coach.
Kinda like being in an airport.
Mimosas, screwdrivers, bloody mary’s …. Always my favorite morning drinks.
First true, cool, crisp Fall air kind of College Football Saturday here in Oklahoma- hope you’ve got the Chili in the pot and the beers on ice!

FSSW has Sooner Sports Gameday on
No Jordan Thomas WTF…..anyone Buller Buller
Details?
I was hoping someone like you might have them he’s not in pregame warmup
I was making the papa murphys run. Got nothin’
We can’t get any info from the coach.
My brother went to Tulsa. Took me to see them in 1965. Truly awesome to watch Jerry Rhome and Howard Twilley. Great combination and both in the College Football Hall of Fame. Rhome finished 2nd in the Heisman in 1964.
A lot of talent has come through TU, Drew Pearson and Steve Largent are a couple more.
Those two lit it up back then. They didn’t play much defense, though. My brother’s UH Cougars lit them up 100-6 back in the mid 60’s.
But what was the score the year before that?
EDIT: Never mind, I grew up believing a myth I guess, that TU had beaten Houston 100 to something either the year before or after they lost 100-6.
Found the all-time head-to-head:
http://www.winsipedia.com/games/tulsa/vs/houston
I only remember they lost to Tulsa the year before.
Yeah, I don’t remember much defense in the game we saw either. Sure did see a bunch of passes and touchdowns.
Btw, got any tots?
Since it’s now being put out there by others, we can confirm PJ Mbanasor will start today.
Any idea what is going on with JT?
odd
TV just said an internal team issue
I want to see fewer penalties today and some good pass coverage.
I want these last ten minutes to tick off the clock.
It’s footbaaaaaaaall tiiiiiiiiime in OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOklahoma!
Anyone got an online link for TV coverage?
Little delays,
http://embedstream.com/sports-fox-sportsusa1-alternate.php
Trap game? As in OU not taking TU seriously? We were 8-5. We have no business or logical reason for overlooking anybody. IMHO pure media speculation. But if OU does do this, we have bigger problems than I thought.
Nice Sooner Game Day feature on Devante Bond.
Any word on who’s starting at center?
Alvarez
New center is always a bit scary.
Anyone have a link to video stream?
Found one http://nhlliveonline.com/channel-62/
Sooners on D to start!
Why isn’t Jordan Thomas playing? Everyone is being silent on this
Heard that question a bunch and the response was the same – crickets.
I’m assuming it’s disciplinary action since no one is talking
This game has me a little nervous.
Me too…..gonna be interesting to see how the Sooners do against a team that can actually pass the ball well.
Is Whitfield red shirting? Or should we see him today
Nice coverage
Very nice.
Tulsa going after the Rookie early.
solid start on D
D starting solid.
Dang, wanted a sack there.
Stop with the fair catch
B-O-R-I-N-G
PJ baby
Kasitati is out there
Pound the rock!
With all of out skill talent, why Sheperd?
Too many fair catches. I’m telling you BS values safe hands over a quality return. But you need both.
BOOMER!
SOONER!
HELLO! NICE START!
Nice throw.
Whoa
Yesss
Love the fast starts.
Line is really getting pushed back
Not good especially with Tulsa’s smaller D-Line.
Dang it!
Coming with the fastball…..Not sure why.
Me either. A soft touch there gets you 6!
Major issues with the O-line
Can’t run block…again.
Pass was awful
Behind and high. He was open.
I’m going to be really sad if we can’t run the ball on Tulsa.
Maybe putting Mayfield under center and letting the RB get going forward would be better, especially with the inexperience line.
Would 100% be better when you need 1 freaking yard.
The “I” would have been fine there, let a FB get a lead block too.
ugh. i HATE finesse offenses w/ a passion for this exact reason.
Baker needs to relax a bit with those tight throws.
At least we have an announcer that can pronounce Austin’s last name.
1st and goal from the one and we couldn’t punch it in.
Against Tulsa…………
Sure would be nice to show a little touch on the ball. Not every pass needs to be a rocket.
GOT to have I-formation there. Have to! Would have scored on down 1.
Perine not being able to get a head of steam.
Would have liked to see a replay of the end of Neal’s catch. I thought he powered his way over
My thoughts exactly.
I re watched it, he was down.
Ah.
Yup. Pretty certain he was in. Would like to see Bob have used challenge. Worth it to me.
Negative comments already? Come on.
Need to utilize our I-formation. Not negative. Just truth. Those spread runs are meant for middle of field, not goal line.
They should have run the Mixon/Perine package at the goal line
Would not be surprised to see that the next time OU is near the goal line.
IF they are not going, I-formation, probably the next best thing..
Kind of glad we didn’t just punch that right in and risk becoming a little complacent- they know they have to work on this all game.
Flowers needs to block that edge way better than the 2nd and goal run.
Dom’s big bro is a player.
Man, Tulsa has some clean uniforms. Among the best in CFB if you ask me.
Reminds me of Penn States uni’s
Garrett will play on Sundays.
Come on D!
Not liking him getting beat but nice to see Sanchez wrapping up.
uh oh The Baylor effect
Looks like these boys came to play. They look pretty good.
Really?
They are going after Sanchez big time.
Sanchez is getting worked on this drive
Setting them up for a pick-6.
Man, I hope so.
Yea he sucks, bench him.
Sanchez.
C’mon d line.
practice throws man… come on
Best thing to happen to this drive is Tulsa calling back to back running plays
C’mon MS adjust to the routes.
Man… Montgomery has Tulsa looking pretty solid.
He knows our D as well as anyone.
Sanchez 8 yards off the wr.
I hate that with a passion!
Need to press more.
A team has to prove they can beat you deep before playing off IMHO.
Exactly!
https://twitter.com/EricBaileyTW/status/645271713022742528
That wasn’t the opening drive.
How come we dont run any slants?
Pretty sure that pass that Mayfield missed on in the endzone was a slant.
Bad throw, good route.
6’0″ QB
6’6″ OL
5’10” WR
Again inside routes, seems like every throw will be an easy catch
If this is an indicator for the D game plan vs. Baylor, I’m less than encouraged.
Farniok missed an assignment on the first drive or else Samaje would of walked in.
Yea, I would think those road graders on that left side will open something up soon in the run..
So much for cleaning up the return game. Stupid penalties.
I think there’s going to be a lot of challenges defending the Baylor style of offense, and while Tulsa may not be as highly regarded as Baylor, I think the system itself is what is going to stress the defense. Because often the DBs are forced to defend such a huge area, it seems like you either have to risk getting beat deep when playing press or give up the short easy shallow passes when playing soft.
Doesn’t help that Jordan Thomas is apparently in the dog house
True. PJ seems to be holding his own so far, we’ll see how Sanchez holds up.
This seems pretty typical for Tulsa. They always play tough for the first half or so and then OU’s depth takes over.
Whoa, early Daniel Brooks sighting
He couldn’t get to the corner there?
Oh, wow we’re finally using Brooks.
Has Mixon been in yet? Havent seen him
yes
He and Perine were in on that 3rd and goal when Mayfield threw it high and inside.
K thanks
Jeezus, this OL….
What OL? Amirite???
They are selling out to stop the run.
Wow talk about guessing right on that stunt…
GET SET! ARGH!
brilliant
C’mon clean up the penalties!
that was on a wide receiver. Mead
Good to see Brooks in.
Mixon?
Yes!
Good call Hunter
Go, Joe, go!
Every time someone says that…..I think Washington. 🙂
Michiah Quick in at WR
That’s encouraging.
that’ll work
BAKER!!!!!
Holy moly
Brooks before Mixon?
EDIT: WHoop, there’s mixon!
Mixon was in earlier on previous drive
Showing a little speed there! I like it.
Baker is beginning to channel his inner Trevor Knight
That was sweet.
BOOMER!
SOONER!
Is it just the youth of the OL that is making us so terrible? It just seems mind-boggling that we went from being able to run on everyone to not even being able to get 1 yard running when we need to.
Only a center and guard returning and both out today is a good recipe. But you’d think we could move people once in a while.
Yeah, the injuries and switch-ups aren’t helping build chemistry.
It just seems like if our OL is as talented as they’ve been touted, there would at least be some element of being able to out-talent in some situations.
Dude, chill out. Geez.
Not that’s a QB run.
Yup, that was very nice. Loved the WRs still blocking down field when they saw he was running.
Nice downfield blocking by the receivers.
yeah I’ve noticed that our receivers early in the year have been very good blockers.
Hell yeah, Baker.
Playing a lot of backups early.
I love it , we need to rotate guys
I don’t disagree, but also need to get the 1st team offense to gel. Thin line to walk to accomplish both.
“Like Ihzak Perlman, when your string breaks you can still make music.” Did the announcer just say that?
Spencer T.
Spencer can say anything he wants.
That was really nice vision to see that wide open.
Pound for pound our WRs are our best blockers
Too bad they aren’t are best pass catchers.
Freakin receivers can’t get open, make baker scramble for a TD. Pathetic.
Now I fit in with the group?
When the red sea opens you just gotta go.
That was sarcasm aimed at all the negative crap on here.
I know Jp…..wasn’t giving you any crap, just was very surprised by how big of a hole there was in front of him. Back when Landry had something like that, he would still look to throw. Great to see Baker recognize and just take off.
It was an excellent play. Agreed. Love it.
Interesting game calling….weird but let’s see
That boy good
if people would just watch the game and not freak out every single time something doesn’t go as planned, you might learn something
It’s Tulsa and we can’t dominate on the ground? This is an issue sir.
Burn it down, we suck!
Hair on fire!! Hair on fire!!!
We’ve had the ball twice, calm down.
its a young line put together with duct tape for the day
Agree. But…Tulsa.
i completely understand what you’re saying, but we have a young, very inexperienced line to start with with one or two of the elders out. so even more young and even more inexperienced which leads to mistakes of excitement, youth, inexperience and cohesiveness. give em a minute to get their feet wet
Your comment just made me freak out.
oregon
winner winner
Good morning.
morning
I hate 11 am games
I do too since I live on the West Coast and that means kick off is at 9 AM. Will be really glad when I move back to OKC in October and can go back to enjoying OU football in the Central Time Zone!!!
I’m going to start calling you Dad because you sound like my Dad. Always lecturing.
just watch the game, dude. pretty simple
Heisman Showoff
Don’t jinx it!!!!!
When is the last time we’ve had a qb run like that?? Damn Baker!
Trevor knight against Iowa State
No offense to TK, but until I edited my post, I kind of forgot about him and his runs. Sorry TK.
Reply fail.
He just called Mixon Perine…come on, man
It’s hard not to root for Mayfield. His will to win and competitiveness is hard to find. Been too long since we had a QB with swagger
Can we lay off w/ the lectures?
It’s a freaking game thread for a reason. We’re all making comments in the heat of the moment and SPOILER ALERT, they may not all be 100% rational b/c they are in fact coming in the heat of the moment.
Let people react how they want to react, thanks.
Come at me bro! 🙂
What lecture?
Thank you Sir. This is a unique forum in all respects and I for one appreciate this game thread. It’s either vent here or break a few walls. Thanks again.
What? We were supposed to be rational?
LOL!
But don’t react to the reactions.
Yes, it’s ok to be negative but by no means are we allowed to counter the negativity. Got it?
Gotcha.
one way street bro. that’s how the empty glassers want it. God forbid anybody get called on bullcrap
I’m just here to….
amen
Acceptable game thread post: Our line is terrible, we can’t gain a yard.
Unacceptable: Quit being negative
Lol
Nice job by Parker on that one.
Parker is a stud. Already so much better than last year and he was pretty good last year
Hoping he’s a future AA.
Nice stop
GREAT STUFF!!!
Mov’em backward!
That’s what’s up!
Walker anybody see him
He’s out there
I dont see how we will stop Baylor at this rate
Don’t watch that game then.
Trying to figure out how to shut you up Jason
Good news is we have quite a while to get better. Just need to keep gellin’.
They lost their OC….so that may help.
Baylor is like 7 or 8 games away. It’s only the third game. I am glad OU is getting a chance to see a team similar to Baylor.
Lol. Drama queen.
Tulsa O is how I thought our O would look.
GREAT JOB D!
Brooks sure is fun to watch.
Who’s more electric, Brooks or Finch?
Gotta go with Finch. He was a pinball that was built like a brick sh– house.
I wonder if Andrews shows up in this game
He will……OU working lots of guys at this point.
There you go!
Not sure I understand using Brooks
He’s fast and shifty.
Tulsa is going to win a lot of games this year
Hopefully they win them all but this one. 🙂
They’ve got some tough games. Houston. ECU. Cincy. Memphis
Perine!
Uconn doing work on Mizzou. Hahahahahaha!
sec !
Pretty sure a play action to Perine will net us a huge gain
Need to pick this up
Wow here the magic Nostradamus is upon us
More of that, plz
Im guessing those that went under on the Over/Under Perine and Mixon both getting 100 yards rushing in this game might get that one right.
Super Nice Mixon!!!
Awesome stiff arm!
BOOMER!
That was impressive
WOW great YAC.
BOOM!
ER!
Who committed?
Whaley??
😉
Powerful run there.
Love it.
That is going to be a dangerous play for the Sooners this year. Old school bubble screen type stuff right there. Remember when Broyles made a living with that. Sweet!
Boom! Mixon.
MIXON!!!!
Mixon giving out free rides to the end zone!
It’s early
Man, flexing our RBs out as WRs is looking good…
Mixon carried that defender just past the pylon! Strength!
Offense is on schedule now
Let’s get a quick TO here.
One thing our kicking game has been great all three games.
Defense has been pretty good also…just sayin’.
Let’s go D! Get us a turnover!
LOL! Great minds!
Yes! A pick here would be sufficient.
Turnover would be big here.
that guy????
Whoa, that was ugly.
The refs missed the hold on the line there.
They’ve missed a few called against OU too, so let’s just hope the team can make the difference.
Someone is out of position on that right. side.
It looks like the LBs are getting caught up in flack, too.
better coverage on that play
Tulsa D plays out of position so much we could score on every series.
D line let’s go. What are they doing?
They must not have eaten their Wheaties this morning.
Tulsa sure uses pace well
See Mixon to powerful in open field…
Our defense needs to line up faster when they use tempo
That’s exactly what’s happening. One guy out of position led to big run. DL definitely going to be using lots of guys in the rotation today for sure.
They look confused at times , maybe we should have designed plays in place for whenever a team decides to use tempo
How on earth can Tulsa run the ball and we cant?
Cause we just aren’t any good
Fire Bedenbaugh
Come on D!
On a side note, I’ve always liked Tulsa. They are like my second “home” team (though I want them to lose miserably today, but today only).
I feel for them nothing of the disdain I feel for Stoolwater Aggies.
I love Tulsa. My brother played there and I can see their stadium from my front porch. Definitely one of the hardest games to watch as a fan.
Wonder if Tulsa running game was succeeding because we were expecting more passing with a 2TD lead. Certainly a reality check. Credit to Tulsa play calling
Just the flow of the game the d is looking good on short yard situations and that’s all that matters.
Nice!
Mr Bond!
NICE BLOCK!
Some serious athleticism on that one.
Montgomery 0 fer 2 on 4th down decisions
2-4….they did get a field goal and a punt that wasn’t blocked. 😉
lol good point
Tulsa is fighting but another TD is gonna break some backs
Mizzou gets the turnover and then…? Misses the FG… … Maybe they’ll be our SEC letdown of the week.
The Predator!
Why didn’t the ref pick that up and run…he had perfect position.
LOL!
Bond is the new Striker 😛
That block was so sweet.
He looked more like a blocker on that one. 🙂
PERINE!
Talkin’ ’bout Perine!
007 !!!!!!!
I vote that we dont let Shepard graduate
I second that!
LR doesn’t forget Perine and it will pay off late in games.
Great throw, great catch!
BOOMER!
13’s jockeys are laying out there somewhere
Dude has an uncanny ability to throw on the run. Looks like TK9 against Bama.
Baker will be the leading rusher.
53 yards so far.
Told ya….Heisman show off…Strike the pose Baker
Too easy. I love it.
Baylor would be beating these guys 48-0 right now.
That ok mod?
Ban Hammer!!!! (kidding)
Go to the movies good grief
Sarcasm bro….
Baylor’s defense has looked pretty average so far this year.
hahaha. nice. seems acceptable
Really? wasnt Baylor tied with LAMAR like 21-21 for a while the other day? hahahahahah
facetious
thought he was just being a hater. lol
he’s ribbing those who can’t just shut their lips and learn. but i can’t say anything else or it’ll turn into a lecture
Ha! This!
Should start calling you “The professor,” oh wait, thats Dustin’s name. How about , “the instigator?” lol
hahaha
I do think we need to practice those I-formation runs at the 1 yard line, but other than that, this game is being called great!!
yeah. i wasn’t a fan of the pistol or whatever it was last yr. to me it cost us 2 games where all we had to do was pick up a yd and we got a great shot at winning em. 7 yds to pick up one with no head of steam is a little tougher
AND?
Settle down people. I was poking at all the negative nancies, Baylor comments, and support on such from our mod here.
I am waiting for someone to invent the sarcasm font, I need it!
So Baylor would have had to either score twice on defense or special teams and four TDs on four possessions then? Sweet
Sarcasm bro
Anybody else running on 4 hours of sleep today?
Not much more than that.
Been taking care of sick people all night and all morning. I’m running on fumes.
Quit running! Sit down and enjoy the game. 🙂
I’m trying, man. I got a cranky 6 yo that just cannot be happy right now. LOL
My thoughts are with you. No fun.
I got a little more than that, but not much.
Crawling on 4 hrs sleep…
Mayfield for Heisman!!
Need Mixon to get touches
Now can we work on the run game a little? Jet sweeps with Westbrook, shuffle passes, Mixon and Perine off tackle…etc…
U were born to coach bro.
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/645281229470732289
Sweet! Adding to his weaponry!
Along with last year’s veteran line, we are missing having Ripkowski around to make those sealing blocks, too.
If I could only get one player back from last year’s team it would be Ripkowski.
Great 3 and out!
Now let get to him….I want a sack!
Peyton Manning with legs
Peyton Manning is a Baker Mayfield with less mobility??
Following on Gamecast from Hawaii this week. Three games in and I am starting to get concerned about our RB production. Seem too talented for the QB to be our leading runner.
Line has growing to do.
We are hold back on our D so we don’t show Baylor anything . JK
Now that would be nice, if it were true. At least they have been held to 3 pts. so far.
man every time i watch shep on returns i get really nervous
I know. Injury worry. I disagree with using Shep on punts even though he has hands.
We used Broyles… I don’t see the big deal.
Even the greatest backs need good Oline blocking.
Unless you’re Barry Sanders…
Or playing Texas Tech
True but at week 3 we are still seeing far too many runs of 0-2. Perine has not run hard downhill like last year and that alone would add 1-2 ypc.
WRs can block
Did Westbrook get a stinger……Looked like he was holding his arm.
oblgatory “only 8 yds on that carry!”
These runs are going to come a lot easier the more the Tulsa D is out there.
PERINE!
That’s the Perine we love!
Perine might be hurt
That sucks!
Yeah hope hes ok
Me too!
Dang it!
Perine hurt hand.
Least its not a leg!!
uh-oh
Nooooooooooo
There is something we definitely do NOT want to see.
Stepped over a snake there.
Whew!
sanchez plays way off
yup
SACK!!
Where’s Striker? In coverage?
What is up with Sanchez? Dude play with confidence and forget the last play!
Garrett is abusing Sanchez and it wasn’t bad coverage there. Kid is a solid WR.
It was a perfect pass, nothing he could do on that one.
Way to get aggressive Mike Stoops! Lets see more of that.
Hate to say it but Baylor would have 3 or more TDs on us by now.
Thank goodness we don’t play them until like 7 or 8 games from now.
10 bucks says Sanchez gets a pick today
I’m liking Byrd in run support today.
Dane Evans is a very good QB.
Good coaching.
Very good.
Evans was sub par last yr. Shows what good coaching and a true WR1 will do for a QB.
and the offensive system
Need a pass rush up the middle and press coverage. WTF.
We gotta get somebody underneath in coverage. These throws are a little too easy.
Sanchez is average at best and Mike Stoops is showing the same bullsh*t schemes/coverage as he did against Baylor last year.
not to lecture you, but i disagree
Thanks for saving the lecture. Just an opinion.
so is mine, but if i share it it gets called lecturing. and you’re welcome
We need to play some man and quit the soft zone.
Tulsa’s offense will score a lot of points this year
We’re gonna get torched by Baylor
U r way behind. Multiple people have accurately predicted this already.
Fumble 14 point swing….great
True freshman got abused
PJ just needs to turn his head around on that play
yup , he’ll learn from that
Or at least put a hand up. Not a great showing there.
Mike…you wanna do something about that guy? Make the qb throw to the other recievers.
So now we shift our focus on dogging Sanchez to dogging PJ correct?
This is a good test for the OU secondary. Anyone familiar with TU’s WR group knew that going in. They are big on the outside, catch well, and the coaches stretch the field with them well. Probably one of the better WR groups we will see all year IMO (Baylor excluded, obviously).
just got on……..any word on perine injury……thxs
not yet
No, just that Baylor is awesome and we suck. That about sums it up.
Lamar put up 31 points
I didn’t say it, just conveying the basic message of the thread.
A good route and an accurate throw is very difficult to defend.
True. Although if he could have just got his head around, I think he c/h defended that somewhat easily. Looked like he felt the ball coming, but never made an attempt to turn his head and find it.
But he’s a true frosh, obv. So you have to take the good w/ the bad. Will benefit him in the long run.
Kind of what I was thinking. Coverage not bad, gotta get hands up and head around, but hands up at very least.
Agree, I was talking about the game in general and not that particular play. 🙂
We knew coming in that Tulsa would be a good test for this D. This is going help the unit in the long run.
Maybe we should have hired an OC from that Baylor tree. lol
It’s one score. Coach Cooks will talk to PJ and get him on the right page!
yup
we can’t let them score!! they’re just wittle old tulsa
LOL!
PJ gotta get his hands up..
I want to see an in-game adjustment by MS.
He may be adjusting himself right now….hard to see with him in the booth. 🙂
Is it me or does Tim/Spencer seem very pro Tulsa calling the game?
How do you not like that Tulsa team? They’re fun to watch.
FIRE KISH! Wait, are we still doing this?
Some of the shine unfortunately coming off that OU D from the first two weeks. Hopefully we’ll see some halftime adjustments like we did last week.
Is anyone that surprised? Baylor torched us last year. Same coordinators on both sides for this. Great offense is hard to stop. The end.
Its alright. GO down and score, and go into half in command.
haha, so is Bob is never going to re-kick now?
Guys, calm down. We’re going to destroy Baylor.
What have you seen that causes you to think so?
We’re gonna use Bear traps and holy water.
Lamar put 31 points on them , LAMAR
Take what they give.
Mayfield might be OU’s first 100-yard rusher this year, lol
Not sure thats funny. But very true!
Not funny…sad, really.
Shep is just plain awesome!
Coach Montgomery just knows how to pick Sanchez apart
refs are softer than some posters
That is a weak ass call. That’s the crap that kills the game.
Close to targeting, I liked Shep’s reaction!
Good to see Mead getting some catches
The boi needs to toughen up … If he’d lowered his head he would have gotten our first down, instead ou went for it on 4th down and mayfield got sacked.
Perines not back
I couldn’t tell if he hurt his hand or wrist.
Bad drop by Todd
Oh my god do these guys practice
Wow, flexing… really ref…
You have GOT to make that catch!
Missed the blitz
Political correctness run amok. Everyone’s feelings must be protected 24/7.
Need more awareness on that!
How much faster can DBs get in college because Mbanasor’s ceiling is limited otherwise
We’re going to lose!!! 😛
O line help please!!!!!
You just can’t enjoy football as a kid anymore…sad
Throw the gd ball son.
I still can’t believe that call…
Fumble and 15 yard flag cost 2 TDS.
Still loving that I-formation for short yardage. Just a pet peeve of mine. I mean, if you want to play action out of it, thats cool too, but we have to utilize that formation. IMO.
Not sure this o-line could move anyone off the line.
That does seem to be an issue.
First and goal and minus 3 yards on two carries isn’t an issue?
Re-read my post. I said it DOES seem to be an issue. LOL!
It sure did- my bad.
Press the WR MS and pressure the QB.
How does he not check that call on 3rd and 1? Meads guy is playing 10 yards off. Just raise up and throw it to him.
You have a guy like mixon and ready to explode has he touched the ball yet other than passes
I guess we now see why Dallis Todd doesn’t see the field much. Still annoyed at that personal foul call. Not sure how that is considered unsportsmanlike. Not much different than celebrating a big clean hit or signalling a first down.
Never liked 4th and one not under center.
Football players have to be emotionless robots nowadays. What a joke
But they must wear pink to show that they “care”!
maybe we are showing vanilla defense as to not tip Baylor off?
Our pass defense philosophy makes me ill
Lets. GO. DEFENSE!
Can’t watch today but looks like we failed to get a TD from the 1 and now failed to gain 1 yd in 2 tries. That is disturbing against TU’s undersized defensive front.
Help us DB’s. You’re our only hope…
Pick 6 would be nice here.
Why don’t the DBs turn around…. don’t they know where the hell they are on a football field
Great swat!
Good job D!
Lol at Tulsa’s comeback attempt.
DJ Ward!
DJ WARD? not sure I’ve ever heard of him?
Big time recruit out of OKC. Douglas I think.
DJ’s a strong man
obligatory “glad we got a hand on that because our secondary stinks and so does mike”
Mixon
Mixon! Mixon! Mixon!
Mixon is a beast!
No joke. Wow!
Mixon showing some power today!
WOW! BOOMER!
Andrews!!!!
Talkin’ ’bout Andrews!
Mr Andrews
Guys! Mark Andrews!!!
There you go. BOOM!
Andrews a TE scores a touchdown !!
The next GRONK , lets go andrews
Sorry, disagree, the boy needs to block better than he is.
O-Line blocked well for that play!
Hell yeah!
Atta boy Big MAN!!!!!
obligatory “if baker literally didn’t have legs we wouldn’t have an offense”
Unsportsmanlike conduct on Andrews for spiking the ball after the TD…:P
Well that didn’t take very long.
Second half should sure open up the run.
3 play drive…. Is that quick enough?
That play with Andrews is literally unstoppable
Best OU QB since Sam Bradford and that’s not an exaggeration.
You simply can’t teach what this guy does.
Uhhhhh, no. Landry Jones.
Uhhhhh you need glasses.
It’s only two and a half games
I’ve seen enough.
Lol. Can’t you tell I have some on already? I’ll let the up votes do my arguing.
I don’t rely on logical fallacies to win arguments.
Whatever you say Borat.
Sorry—–didn’t mean to confuse you. @joshuaemerson:disqus
There is a difference between a better passer and a better football player. Landry was easily a better pocket passer. BM is a player.
Passing is all that LJ could do. No athleticism or moxy whatsoever.
I don’t disagree but as far as QB evaluations go I will just say this; LJ made an NFL team, BM couldn’t get a D1 scholarship. I love BM as a player and leader but LJ was a better QB.
Mayfield is on scholarship right now @disqus_1dtth5lvs9:disqus Wes Welker barely got a look outta college and he turned out pretty well.
It took walking on at 2 programs to get a scholly. Welker is good but he also has the benefit of catching passes from the 2 best QBs of the last 20 yrs and nobody would say he was as good as Crabtree in college.
@disqus_1dtth5lvs9:disqus
So he did what it took to get a scholarship—–what does it matter? He’s the starting QB at Oklahoma and beat out two highly ranked QB’s coming outta high school.
Wes Welker broke an NCAA record for punt returns in college. All conference player. He was good before the pros.
so now you’ve changed the argument to being athletic. i don’t think you have to be athletic to be a good qb. pretty sure peyton ain’t athletic. and no i’m not coming even close to comparing landry to peyton
I didn’t change anything @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus. I simply made a statement that’s 100% true.
you said best qb. i don’t think you can call this the best after 2 and a half games. i mean you can if you want but it don’t make it right. i believe one of the biggest things scouts look at is passing ability. not a huge leap to think a guy who could chuck the football would be a good qb. but yeah if you think 2 1/2 games is better than landry’s career, knock yourself out
@disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus
I’m not talking about NFL potential. If that’s a consideration then you could make an argument that Landry Jones is the 2nd best QB in school history and no rational person will make that argument.
you said best qb. if you think 2 1/2 games is better than someone else’s full career then thank goodness you’re not a scout
We’re_not_talking_about_the_NFL @disqus_BeW3hegp9d:disqus—–why is that so difficult for you to understand????
who has mentioned the nfl besides you? just because i say scout doesn’t mean nfl. thank goodness you have nothing to do with the entire sport. is that better? 2 1/2 games in COLLEGE is not better than a guy that set many many records(yes i get it, we’ve only been a passing team for less than 20 yrs, easy to set passing records yada yada) in COLLEGE
It’s like you read someone else’s posts and then respond to mine.
Unbelievable………..
wow. best ou qb since bradford and that’s not an exaggeration is what you said. i disagreed and said landry. you have now not let the nfl go. i never once brought up the nfl. i said i’m glad you’re not a scout. which is true. i’m also glad you’re not an english professor. but you keep this imaginary argument going if it makes you feel better
I was watching a couple of games from that 2008 season, and I couldn’t get over how wide open so many receivers were that year…Bradford is crazy accurate but it helped that he was both well-protected and the receivers were often pretty open. Accuracy + system that gets people open seems like a good combo.
Absolutely. We forget just how great Bradford’s supporting cast was. Mayfield is doing what he’s doing with a very average (at best) O-line.
Disagree, Bradford is/was not known for his scrambling ability.
I said since.
I thought it was said that Bradford *could* scramble but didn’t have to, and because they didn’t want him getting hurt, they didn’t really do any designed runs…
great TD. Now we just have to find a way from stopping Tulsa Carving our DB’s up like thanksgiving day turkey
That puts us over 400 yards offense first half. Not bad.
News on Perine or J Thomas?
The broadcasters at the beginning said J Thomas was held out for disciplinary reasons I believe
Yep, they were told right before kick off.
Thats a helluva route by Andrews. And from the TE spot on the line too! VERY NICE SOONERS!!!!
Please let Shannon play in the 2nd half.
I think Sanchez actually looked back on that one
Nice BOOMER SOONER!
Parker is OUs best coverman
obligatory “if this were baylor, aka the packers, we’d be getting our brains beat in”
Sanchez was close on that one! GOOD JOB D!
1 for 12. Not bad. 😉
Gotta start somewhere. LOL
Should have been an oscie.
Almost won my 10 bucks there
Okay nice D.
No Perine No Good
He should be back. Got hand taped and appears to be ready to go.
No Perine, no problem.
2 minute drill time! LETS GO BOYS!!!
not trying to rain on anybody’s party but if perine is out for a while that would leave us with only three scholarship running backs.
He’s fine
I hope you are right.
yeah you’ve never been accused of being a rain cloud
not trying to be negative but if he is injured having only 3 running backs left on Scholarship would be a problem.
We’re going back to that automatic fair catch punt return. I hate that crap…
MIXON is a freak of nature!
Mixon showing some nice patience, but not sure that’s good today.
They need to feed Mixon right now. He is beasting out
Perine news PLEASE?
WOW!
NOOO
Nice pitch and catch.
You have got to hang on to the football!
Are you freak’n kiddi…..ugh
WTF.
Good Lord. That’s two
Fumbles, dang it
Noooooooo
Bob’s gonna injure the RB’s if they keep fumbling.
That’s two fumbles in the red zone! Smh
Where are the linebackers?
Tackling 7 yards down field.
Ouch.
Not running downhill probably cause they’re being dropped into coverage to help the poor ol db’s
Get ready for a bomb here
Or a sack!
Yep. Probable three on streak patterns
Noooo. Parker we need you!
What happened to Parker ?
I don’t know but they walked him to he sideline. He looked okay, but still…
Stinger, back in on the next play
Thank goodness. Those have a tendency of happening again through the season once you get one
I think he is OUs best cover man
Looks like he is ok.
LR is putting this O in position to win. The players are the reason this thing isn’t 49-10 right now. Fumbles, penalties, failing to get 1 yd…
Where’s Walker on these runs?
https://twitter.com/EricBaileyTW/status/645293257996419072
Holy crap!
I know it’s getting late in the day but I may have my first beer at half time.
You’re behind!!!
I know. 🙁 Must catch up.
This score should be 45-10 if we hang on to the ball.
No doubt. It’s a two possession game now. We need to take kickoff and score a td.
That was a great throw for the TD.
that tulsa QB has a nice touch on throws
Just not adjusting to the tempo.
Yeah, um, Baylor is gonna be a problem.
Signed,
Captain Obvious
Have to get pressure up the middle.
I jinxed Parker by calling him OUs best cover man
he still is, just a good throw
He IS their best cover man.
It’s not like he got beat…..just a good play.
Damn it, stop them. It’s Tulsa.
Need our front four to get better pressure.
354 yards allowed…
…in the first half.
No bueno
Got to give credit to Tulsa’s offense too, not just bad “D”.
Embarrassing these DBs have learned very little in one year
Tulsa has a good offense everyone knows that. A shutout wasnt going to happen just have to keep playing and minimize mistakes.
RBs better carry the ball to class this week
Haha…The Program!
https://twitter.com/ESPNStatsInfo/status/645293935804424193
Unfreakingreal!
lulz
Holy shi*!
Getting out coached once again . …wow
Wow hahahaha
Lmao
Why did Franklin try to dodge the bal?
We need a sack right here!
You guys think the “experts” underestimated TU? They will make some noise in the AAC. Be positive here. We will win, TU will go bowling and this will look like a quality win at the end of the season.
How do you not expect an onsides kick there?
Seriously?
That’s just horrible!
Sure, why not.
Who the hell are we playing BYU?
I quit
What coverage was that?
Prayer
Well that was fooked
That’s not coaching. That is just piss poor effort from our players.
Looks like we are the weekly joke on sports center take the penalty sooooi…stupid
So 38-10 is now 31-24. I’m one nervous m’fer now.
Awww look at them they’re trying.
Put their two tallest WRs in the same area.
WHAT THE FU*@ Coaching, Coaching, Coaching. ARGGGGHHHHH!!!!!
That is not coaching. lol
Not being ready for an onside kick sure as hell is! Thats the biggest mistake there. Right before the play, I said, I bet they onside. If I can do it, surely they can. Get your men in the right mindset!
Hail mary was luck, I get that. But not being ready for the onside kick is just foolishness.
That was not an onside kick. It was a squib kick that hit an up man. Just like what we got when we played Bama. Completely random luck.
Still gotta have hands team in that situation “just in case.” But you guys are right, players still have to execute.
How do you know they weren’t warned about a possible onside kick? I’d bet just about everything they were. Again, EXECUTION!
Warning them, and not having your hands team on the field are two totally separate things.
I disagree that we should have had the hands team out there.
If I’m sitting at home and know the “hands team” should on the field for the kickoff, and the coaching staff does not, it may be time to re-evalute.
Exactly what I was referring too. Not the hail mary, but the onside kick was freaking obvious. Why the hell wouldnt they?
PATHETIC!
That dude Garrett will be playing ball on Sundays
Damn we suck!!
Well, that stinks.
I guess Mike is getting a better view of TDs against his defense from the press box.
Defense checked out last couple drives
Natonal Joke….of the week
Is this Tulsa Qb the same one they had last year?
Don’t know why the review is taking so long. That’s a TD.
OU could of used a timeout and talk about what Tulsa might do.
They knew what was coming. Players have to execute. Simple as that. TERRIBLE effort from PJ and Thomas.
Ball touched the ground on that last view!!
I saw that.
Totally. Sadly it probably wasn’t enough to overturn the call.
At the same time, the main reason why we’re in this situation is because we had 2 fumbles inside the red zone…the question is, will the D step up like they did last week?
Turnovers and penalties make it tough against anyone.
How on earth do you put yourself in a position to be outnumbered in an obvious hail Mary situation
Take the penalty so stupid…
Ball hit the ground.
It did.
Seeing what or if the half time adjustments are on defense will be the most telling thing about Mike stoops and the new hires we’ve seen this season
On the D. The O just needs a good butt chewing.
397 yards allowed….
….in the first half.
Wow..
Players are sleeping
Ouch.
Well, MS has not come up with anything new to combat the spread has he?
You guys are too much. Just wanted to say McKinley Whitfield spotting.
I’m ashamed.
Who gives a shxxxt the ball hit the ground two tds. One minute
12 seconds two tds…screw you Mike Stoops
Hope we have some halftime adjustments up our sleeves like last game.
Got to pull our heads out in second half. Tulsa is not going to just “lay down.”
14pts in 12 seconds for Tulsa.
Disgusted. My Chiefs gave up 14 9 seconds now this!
Well I was happy about that one. lol
Dude…friggin Chiefs.
It’s a long season. I still think we get 10 wins and playoffs.
Let receivers run right by them…that’s coaching
Tulsa came to play. hope we get the wakeup call.
We should move to the SEC. Our defense is better suited there
Yes!!!!!
Our speed and style would work much better in almost any other power 5 conference. I realize Tulsa isn’t in a power 5 conference but they play so much like a Big 12 conference
This defense, man..
Just in Mike stoops has no idea haha
ED Oliver will stay committed to UofH
Coaches should have called a time out when they saw the players out of position. Can’t take TO’s to halftime when you could have used at least one to help.
Fire everybody!???
Just the BIG one that should have been canned LAST year.
This is the Mike Stoops we know and love
This is the Jeff we know and love.
OU has only won like 2 in the last 5 games at home
Well that was one serious loss of composure.
We defended spread teams in the past better than this. I dont understand why we find it so hard these days
Baylor & TCU gonna eat this secondary alive!
Hell….the entire big 12 minus kansas
Yep
Even Texsa
Now you show up, lol. Let’s see if the Jordan will boot your ass like somebody should have last week.
What if that’s Jordan’s sock?
I wouldn’t be surprised? lol
I wouldnt blame him if he did. Believe it or not complaining and being negative helps me ease tension. I am actually a huge OU fan. Ive been going to games since I was born. This is my place to vent. I apologize if I come across like a crazed idiot.
Might give up a FULL 100, not just half.
We beat TCU (maybe a shootout) but BU is scary.
Mike Stoops has cable.
I don’t blame most of this on scheme at all. Players gotta make plays. Looks to me like we’re trying to play a vanilla defense b/c we should be able to do that against TU and win easily. And for most of the first half, we were on pace to do that. Now we “may” have to show some stuff on defense we didn’t want to have to show. And that pretty much is due to our running backs not holding onto the ball, Parker never looking for the ball in coverage, and LAZY defense on the Hail Mary from PJ, Thomas, and to a lesser extent Parker.
https://twitter.com/WoodrowWilson/status/645296945250988032
We’ve heard over and over the ball is allowed to touch the ground if the player is controlling it. I’m not saying the TU player was or wasn’t controlling it, but the fact that the ball touched the ground doesn’t automatically mean no catch.
Better than being down 17 on the road. 🙂
Why cant we schedule Division 3 schools
Because we are about to go 3-0 and all 3 may go bowling. That amps up the love we get from the playoff committee if we finish 11-1 or 12-0.
More concerned with this game only. Dont care what happens against Baylor and TCU yet.
No doubt
we will have time to adjust to those teams
So far it seems like luck is playing in Tulsa’s favor – if Perine and Mixon don’t fumble and OU keeps rolling on offense like we had been, that would be 14 more points for the good guys. If OU had been better prepared for the onside/squib or if that ball had bounced differently, OU might have recovered the ball and preserved the 14-point lead. While there is definitely some skill and strategy involved, there’s definitely been some extra luck for Tulsa so far to keep them in the game.
This game should have been done and dusted if not for the fumbles in the redzone
Any word on Perine?
We’ll get ’em- we have the ball to start the 2nd half. Nothing wrong with your opponent getting up off of the canvas after getting smacked in the mouth, just smack him in the mouth a few more times and he’ll crumble.
All three TD’s for Tulsa has come from turnovers.
Exactly.
And all 3 TO’s were in the red zone /smh
The on-side kick wasn’t
Let’s just get the win.
I like when OU wins. I am however, quite interested to see what the D has for the spread in half 2…
We need another half for experience anyway before the bye.
Sad part is that we had a chance to step on their throat and end this game, but instead, we put in on the ground…twice!!!!!
That’s still the plan. Just giving them some hope before we crush it.
Dave Wannstedt. Discuss.
Love seeing all the crazies come out full on panic mode. Young team lost focus. Instead of being a blow out now they got a little fight on their hands. Hopefully they pull out together and dominate the second half.
Nobody is panicking. Everyone was hoping for a lot better play on our end though. Too many mistakes.
Lol you must not be reading the same stuff I am.
yeah, doom and gloom! Anytime a Air Raid and a Spread match up, there is the chance for a shootout. PPL need to calm down and let the lads grow up a little.
Correction….a lot!!!
Thankfully, this team is pretty good in a fight.
You’d think it wouldn’t surprise me after all these years, but it still does. lol
I love how some fans think we’re suppose to look like Ohio State 3 games into this season, after last season. I’m positive about where this team is and where they are going, but I’d be pretty surprised if we didn’t lose 2 games this year. The talent isn’t there across the board for me to suggest otherwise.
Remaining positive but if I’m TU, I open the 2nd half with another on-side kick.
It was a squib!!! Not onside kick
whatever
There is a difference
But that difference makes no difference to the point of my post.
Yes bc you said “another” onside kick
go away
Annnnd u know no football
Looked like he intentionally kicked it at the ou player to cause exactly what happened. It’s a different version of the onside kick. I’ve seen it ran before just not normally that effective.
Someone put cement shoes on this idjut
Why, b/c it worked once? Should they try the Hail Mary on the first play too?
Hey, when I play the football video game, I call the Hail Mary play every single play.
Got a problem?
Does Tulsa onside the kick out of halftime ?
First time playing against this offense, up front on D were tired from turnovers just need take care of the rock thats all.
Lets go drop 70 on them now
The question is, what’s the attitude going to be coming out into the 2nd half? Determined to win like last week, or “we’ve given up” like last year?
I think Coach is going to get their attention here during half. IMO
Interested in what adjustments Mikes makes for the 2nd half. What did he learn from last season.
Let’s get it Sooners!
Nothing or he woulda made those adjustments to start the game…
Edit: To be fair though, they’re pretty good at the Qb/Wr position. So I’m not real sure what he can do differently.
I agree
Yeah, trying to stay positive. Lol
Mixon goes Beast-Mode in the 2nd half.
I’m sure no one is more upset about his fumble than him.
I was surprised to see both him and Perine fumble in this game, but I would rather they get those fumbles out of their systems in a game like today’s than later on in the season like last year.
https://twitter.com/Colby_Daniels/status/645299623582527488
On the bright side their field goal kicker is 0 for 1
Shouldn’t sniff those kinds of numbers for the whole game, IMO.
OU passed for more yards, rushed for more yards, and has more points. Can’t we post something about that?
Turnovers—–gotta love em.
We may get over 1,000 yards total offense for OU
Pretty poor tv coverage. Not one word about Perine when he obviously left the game injured. These guys mention the Sugar Bowl one more time I’m going to hit the mute button on the tv. Too bad I have to pay to hear Toby Rowland since I’m out of state.
Alright, Alright! Problem Solved! I have opened my first Coors…. 🙂
Me too. 🙂
Not me, I went right to the hard stuff
Got to give it to Tulsa. Their QB and receivers are great!!!
SHOOT I just realized since I took my OU hat off Tulsa got on a roll! My fault….hats on again…were good.
Next time you take that hat off, we are stapling it to your head!!!
Just got home and turned on the game. Are you kidding me????
Offense has been encouraging. Defense the opposite. Plus bad luck.
Bad luck? 2 fumbles in red zone.
2 Turnovers, lead to 2 Tulsa TD’s. Offense playing great (Minus turnovers!) D has been very, very suspect.
2 TO, Onside kick, Hail Mary. We should literally be up by 40 right now.
Hail Mary? This isn’t BYU we’re playing.
Daddy R Im with you. Time for a Budweiser.
https://twitter.com/mhouckOU/status/645301123931205633
They’re due for a turnover. Let’s hope we stay aggressive.
Their QB will throw an INT eventually.
Mbanasor is going through some growing pains in this game. He’s getting picked on and needs to step it up the second half.
I thought he had better speed but I don’t know if that is the case
TU WRs are very good so it is not surprising. This experience should make him much better late in the season.
Our D must be impressing Oliver
Shoutout to my pops. He was on the ’75 team. Celebrated at half today.
How awesome is that!
Then I saw him play as I was a freshman at OU in 75.
Been hoping to see the return of OUr KILLER INSTINCT. So far all I have witnessed is Tulsa going all C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER! LOL
Yessir, Mr. Perine.
Perine is such a smooth runner. You could put a glass of water on his head and it woudn’t spill.
I think it’s time to run the ball down their throats.
Perine’s ok! Whew
Alvarez is no good regardless of position. Dalton is strong but just missed a backer on second level. Farniok less “bad” at guard, better than Alvarez
Alvarez is a good guard but I don’t like him at center. Alvarez had a good game at tennessee
I like Dalton too though
In other news, Miciah Quick is playing today.
No receivers open downfield. Traces of Tenn game first half.
He’s got to throw the dang ball. Killing me smalls.
4th and 1, we should go for it
Man, If I am Bob I am soooo tempted. Put in that perine/mixon combo..
Did we ever get a good explanation of why Butch Jones declined so many penalties last week? I get that sometimes you want to take the down instead of the distance, but still…
He dumb.
a fake punt would be nice and ballsie
I actually like that call better than running an offensive play.
Over / Under Tulsa 300 second half yards
Under.
Mayfield reminds me of Jake Plummer. Some “wow” plays, sand lot mentality, but inconsistent, will drive us nuts all season
Bob Dylan
more pressure up the middle
Lets go D!
Surprised to see how much rushing yardage TU has. Didnt see that coming.
i am really glad some of these posters aren’t on this team
Man, he was open…again. Bad throw, OU got lucky there.
Sanchez’s draft stock taking a nose dive today.
We need a stop right here
Annoys me that we play a 3 man front to combat this exact offense, and yet we can’t stop it.
I wonder of Baylor is salivating…….. ? ? ?
Our DBs as a collective are just slow.
I don’t. Screw Baylor. We’ll get to them when we get to them.
Edit: Whoops. I replied to the wrong person. Sorry about that, man.
damn, turn your head around
Omg
That was horrible D. Turn your head around!
Why arent we getting more pressure on QB? I thought we would dominate their O line today.
Why do our DB’s refuse to look for the ball? Ridiculous.
Freshman mistake.
Not when Sanchez and Parker are not doing it either.
PJ needs to just turn his head and he’s good.
The back of his helmet just knocked one down!
Flop by Tulsa WR on that penalty. Too bad.
You could see that one coming a mile away.
Come on, D.
TU is doing a great job running Riley’s offense!
Their offense is way more “vertical” than ours
Yes, because they have open receivers.
🙂 that too. Mayfield hesitant trusting our receivers on fades etc
Exactly. I’m not sure if he doesn’t trust his receivers or he’s not confident in throwing the fade. But it’s integral to LR offense.
Jordan Thomas let his team down today.
Any news on why he’s out?
Suspension. Didn’t hear any details.
GREAT STOP!
Nice stop
There’s some D.
Thank you Tulsa
D kept us in it last week O is gonna have to get it done today
We need to get more pressure up the middle.
Can anyone tell me why the hell we do what we do on punt return? It’s pointless.
Our guys knew it was a fair catch, they weren’t even blocking.
I guess they want to play it safe, but seems like a wasted opportunity to me. We need some momentum right now.
As a rule, you’re not going to get a run back on a 35 yard coverage punt.
This.
That.
the other
True, but here is always a chance he doesn’t get it high.
What about the last two punts in the first half?
No we need coaches
We have good coaches.
Lets go OFFENSE! Lets go OFFENSE! Be nice to get a 10 play drive right here, with a TD at the end.
What did Jordan Thomas do to not play today? PJ is starting to get picked on and he’s good but I don’t know if he had the mental toughness yet to bounce back
Grand theft Auto
Seriously?
No, Im rarely serious on here
Nice fake.
Hand full of jersey?!?
nuts and bolts nuts and bolts, we got screwed
Just watched the Hail Mary TD on DVR. Ouch.
of course it doesn’t go both ways
Do you have something against the ‘shift’ key?
WhAt Is A sHiFt KeY?
i dunno
its quicker to type like this
NOT IF YOU USE CAP LOCK>
But it pisses me off. Stop it.
yeah would you rather me yell at you while i make you stay in a tent? at least i’m nice
….or the equipment shed? The Pirate!
As long as you capitalize and punctuate.
Shep to the rescue.
Refs drink bleach
Mayfield is hesitating sometimes.
Good decision by Baker.
Nice to see Miller getting a catch.
Pretty nice line play.
We REALLY do need to extend the lead here!
( I know, thank you captain obvious )
NIce. Went though his progressions
OL is blocking much better this half.
ohh yeah
AD sighting!!
Andrews time
Neal is coming along. Gonna have a big year.
Nice run by Baxter!!!
Baxter takes one!
BOOMER!
SOONER!!
SOONER!
OUtstanding!
Baxter!!
Scootin’ Baxter!
Yeah!!!!!
Nice block by Westbrook
where in the hell has he been today?
BOOM!!!
Can anyone say 62 – 48 final?
buddy for 3?
I can say it. But I dont want to see it.
I’ll take it if its OU with the 62
Everybody breathe now
Or dance.
Whatever your fancy.
Easier to dance when you breathe.
LOL
Drink now!!
It’ll be much better once we get ahead by about…42. 😉
Wow, dialed it up to Baxter. He’s really spreading it around.
Lets go for 600 yard passing for our man Mr Cleveland
Que?
Big time WR recruit Tyrie Cleveland is visiting today
Lets get an interception or sack and fumble.
Or all of the above!
I thought Darlington was just not strong/ weak anchor at Center, but seeing Alvarez, maybe something else too. They have to snap then the DL is on them, perhaps negating what strength they have. Dalton looks the best of the 3 though.
So far, Mayfield has tossed it to eight different receivers.
Stuck his foot in the ground and got up field, great play. Let’s go D, get some confidence back
…
Tulsa’s QB needs a haircut. There I said it.
What is up with all of these posters saying it’s the coaches fault, or we need better coaches. The players have shot their own selves in the foot today. 2 fumbles in the red zone which has led to 2 Tulsa td’s. Didn’t recover an onside kick. If the players would just execute, yes I used Bob’s favorite word, then we wouldn’t be in this close game right now. We’d be up probably 52-10 or something like that. Relax.
He’s in the dam box and can’t see the filed thats why
Would be awesome to get a turnover.. Give this d some conference
And confidence!
Yes that too
LET’S GO D!
Please run!
Grr.
Can we run that quick slant?
I’m gonna go out on a limb, and suggest the coaches wanted Westbrook for his blocking, as much as his speed. Damn that dude can block.
He’s made a few good ones already this season, hasn’t he!
yessir.
I’m getting sick of the cushion!!!
Briles is licking his chops
better him than me
Nice bull rush!
You cannot play 12 yards off the WR!
It’s like watching Baylor all over again.
uncle
Thats a terrible call
HORRIBLE!
We beat ourselves.
Refs suck
We are dumb.
Zero pass rush. Too many easy throws when allll the e DBs are 10 yards from Los
That was the absolute worst Roughing the passer penalty i have ever witnessed
It certainly was, can’t believe that flag even came out of the ref’s pocket on that play!
For those of you begging for press coverage all the time, do you see how often we’ve gotten beaten in it? Luckily they’ve missed on those throws.
Make the qb throw a difficult pass. Give the pass rush time. The dink and dunk elminates our strength of the D. Striker and bond.
The press coverage pass came out quick too. Wasn’t particularly difficult. I know we don’t like allowing the dink and dunk, but it takes a mix of both.
man, we are getting exposed.
How exactly do you pronounce PJ’s last name? Is the announcer saying it correctly?
I always said it, “mans-bor.”
M ban uh soar
The B is silent?
Just like his Coverage
pretty freaking tired dude
Toast
He can’t even get Devante Bond’s name right!
Scroll to the bottom. I reference this all the time.
http://www.soonersports.com/SportSelect.dbml?&DB_OEM_ID=31000&SPID=127245&SPSID=750326
Thanks!
Im really irritated at seeing their RB gash us.
Our D needs to stiffen up.
I think in a sentence like that you might want to spell out the word Defense lol
LOL!
tapper got blown off line
Very surprised that we arent dominating the LOS on defense. This is very disheartening.
Not good at all
The bye week can’t get here soon enough.
This is pathetic. No adjustments? We can cover these guys? Send Striker every down.
Havent heard strikers name called once.
He’s in underneath coverage almost every play. Sick of this.
Is Tulsa Oline better than Tennessee oline?
No, but they have spread the field and ran tempo better.
I’m wondering if the defense stayed in Knoxville. This tells me we should not expect to hang with Baylor.
Our offense can hang with Baylor.
The offensive will keep us in
This is BAD. We are not very good at all on defense. Sub par at best
Same defense as the past few years. Soft coverage and little pressure.
We are at our best playing 4 real DL. Baylor/ TU offense forces us to play the D we had last year negating athletic/ strength advantage and exposing lack of speed in back
So why not play our best Dline anyway, try to dominate. Force them to our will with our superior athletes.. Let the Db’s man up at the line?
obviously our coaches don’t trust our DBs
That sucks. But you’re right.
Expect Baylor to receive all access from TU on everything, defense exposed today
That’s why I think we might just be playing vanilla on D, as to not show too much
We are just getting exposed. They are running patterns off the play to confuse us and its working easily. DB’s don’t know who to stay with.
This is 95% scheme. Have us beat by alignment. Mike can’t figure out how to stop it. How bout getting the OLB’s taking the flat? C’mon Mike.
Who has stopped it, consistently? Baylor has lit just about everybody up the last few years.
Didn’t say anyone had. But we aren’t even trying anything new. Same scheme. Same result.
Tough to get too creative with a true freshman corner. I’d also argue that guys like A. Thomas and Byrd simply aren’t any better than average, and a lot of what we do is to protect their deficiencies. I think we will struggle with this offense until our younger DB’s work their way onto the field in the coming years.
I can only imagine what it’s like up in that tiny press box with Mike Stoops
Say Baylor just one more time!
BAYLOR!!!!!!
Enough about Baylor. Geez.
JFC
???
Jesus fn christ?
So is J.Thomas being out hurting us pretty good today?
sure hasnt helped
Wouldn’t really be all that different, IMO.
Only DB last week getting beat in coverage
https://twitter.com/KellyHinesTW/status/645309959723352065
And they’re still going to lose.
They put a little Stick ‘Em on Durron’s gloves today. He’s looked pretty sure handed on his targets today.
Gotta score here. We dont keep at least a 14 pt lead we could be in trouble..
Our Offense is looking good but Id like to see more bubble screens to Mixon. That looks pretty unstoppable.
Please let Perine run downhill.
He spotted that short.
Jamal Danley at guard. Wow he is strong, finally a push
When are they going to start calling that late hit stuff?
Samia in at RT
WOW
Johnny Football
…
WOW, just WOW!
GREAT PLAY!
HOLY CRAP! BOOMER!
Mayfield magic!
That pass to Andrews was AWESOME!!!
Totally a Manziel-style play there
No. Stop that. Manziel isn’t half the QB Mayfield is.
LOL
not half the human being either
Yessir.
That. Was. Awesome.
Crisco Mayfield clocking in on a Saturday again!
Okay, Danley should only play on run downs
Boy is like a greased pig!
….
Not sure any defense has ever been designed that can stop that play.
Now if we can just find a defense for a drive or two.
One of the reasons Bob made the change back to this type of offense, games like this. In today’s game, you’ve gotta be able to win some shootouts each season. Wish it wasn’t against Tulsa, but it is what it is.
Great great offense run and pass…qb threat…Where’s MS and the defensive players? Stop this team.
Now that is a great QB right there!!!!
Wow what a play. I haven’t seen a qb from stoops that has had feet like that.
Jason White pre-injuries.
Yep. Just didnt have the knees after the injuries.
That. Was. Incredible.
Mayfield can flat out ball. Wow
No TD this drive for TU.
Playmaker.
https://twitter.com/mhouckOU/status/645311669950779392
This game is a great lesson for our young team. Thank God it’s Tulsa
Please look back for the ball. Thanks
New DB back to bump and run. Let’s see what happens
Marcus Green in for Mbanasor
Wrap up and tackle!
It seems it’s becoming a lost art.
First thing we ever worked on in practice was tackling. Drives me nuts to see guys throwing a shoulder thinking that is enough. UGH!
We’ere making this running back look like Earl Campbell.
Yep.
Where is our backside contain?
That Mayfield kid is squirrley
Green in at CB for PJ?
yup
So this tells us it’s not the scheme in coaches eyes. It’s the execution.
Who is playing d line? Put in Q…
Dont understand why we haven’t improved against the spread offense
Get striker out of there on 1st and 2nd down he is a liability on the run
Tapper doesn’t seem right today.
Inconsistent player. Get em out.
Every player is inconsistent to a degree. Wasn’t he all big 12?
When? Not last year right? 2013.
He has sickle cell. Wonder if that has something to do with his endurance in games
Hasn’t played well all season if you ask me.
https://twitter.com/mhouckOU/status/645312444336771072
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say he gets number 7.
Let’s hope we don’t neeeed it.
Even if we dont need it. But yes, lets hope!!!
Whoa, UConn?
Missouri holds on to beat uconn 9-6…sec..
Wow.
That defense, tho…
It was uconn. LOL
UConn went for the win instead of the tie, glad to see teams from all over the country taking to the sec even if their gamble didn’t pay off in the end.
Aw well, it’s not like a team can come back from 2tds down in the fourth, right?
I expected to give uo some pass yards, but not get gouged by a slow RB.
Overcompensation for the pass
Lets go to the sec
Toby Rowland had a nice fact, last week we were down by 14, today we are up by 14.
Going into the 4th
This made me giggle.
Houdini Mayfield.
Andrews! Andrews! Love it he’s getting the ball today.
Good news is, Josh Heupel’s offense wouldn’t have been able to score like this
What we ran the last two years wasn’t “JH’s offense”. That was Bob’s offense.
Samia looked good on that series.
Cant stop the slant.
Have to get players underneath it. Where are the LBs?
Push off on the WR.
Lucky break. Thats not usually called.
doesn’t mean its not a penalty. that’s not luck at all. that’s someone doing their job. just like calling ineligible downfield
Ineligible was a good call by the linesman. I know the guy. He’s a good one.
too bad he didn’t have the k st game last yr
Fo realz
Can’t stop a throw like that
Am I a bad person for hoping he has a concussion?
naw
Not at all.
I guess they had enough of PJ
Parkers and Bond are our best players on D
I agree
Or at least the most NFL sunday ready
Parker is definitely much improved and Bond has stepped up big so far.
They have played well. I would include Sanchez right there with them.
Their O line is stoning our pass rush.
Need to see if we can rotate some fresh legs in, but tempos is making it tough.
Good stop D!
Is 14 Marcus Green?
Yep
Yes sir
gotta keep attacking of O
alright nellies. if you’re gonna roast em. gotta give em credit too
Like that could happen.
Good stop this series. If we can hold to this one score in the second half it would be encouraging.
Cynic in me says it was the PI that stopped em. But good stop boys!
Not supposed to react to the nellies.
dangit. sorry for the lecture. that’s my bad fellas
Please drop 70 on Tulsa Lincoln Riley
Its going to be a long BIG 12 season
This is one game.
I heard this was our trap game.
I think @ksu after texas is our trap game
Gotta take major time of the clock here with this possession
Meh, I don’t care if we score on one play.
I am shocked that our down four hasn’t been able to get to the QB, even though he gets rid of the ball quickly. They are just standing our D line up.
Really takes the wind out of your sails when you know you can’t get there in time.
The announcers saying giving up this many yards is the “new normal” doesn’t make it any easier on a boy who cut his Sooner teeth on the ’85-86-87 defenses. Sheesh!
so if this guy is from Baylor what does Baylor have now ?
Still have Briles…
is he the brains or this guy ; how much credit goes to which , really
Giants that come from another planet that all weigh 400 lbs and run 4.2’s.
and are 8 feet tall.
Briles jr.
An empty trophy case?
West Virginia should be a good game. Thankfully its at home after a bye.
So how’s it going on here?
the usual. empty glasses sitting everywhere. literally and figuratively
in other news, water is wet
Haha well I guess that’s no better than twitter. Thought I’d hop over here for a bit.
Actually decent considering how the game has gone.
The defense makes me sad
Needs more work for sure.
Can’t leave a true freshman on an island, feel bad for PJ
We pretty much shut them down the second half. I think it was less than 150 yards with a top 5 offense. Not Bad at all.
IMO, Tulsa is going to win a lot of games this year and have a good shot at winning their league. If that’s the case then this will be a good win in hindsight.
Hopefully Tulsa wins all their games after this one
Razor close!
Shep! You the man!
He’s a gridiron god.
What a throw by Baker!
Baker’s passing yards are the 4th most in a game in OU History. Landry has the top 5, with 554 being the most…against WVU.
I believe he’s #2 now.
Opps, went down on that loss to Mixon.
The only good thing about that game is that we won.
have you all noticed, we haven’t had problems with the play clock like we did last year.
Yep. sweet. But the d looks the same for now.
Hueplesque!
We better stop that screen….they are on to it.
We’re only running about 10 different plays, but it’s working…
Missed a facemask call?
Maybe they didnt flag it because he didnt grasp it. Looked liked he just palmed the mask, then moved his hand down.
Why can’t we defend passes to the flat as well as Tulsa does to us?
Shovel pass sighting!
was that our fist punt?
Second
3 games in, I think we have our answer about Perine’s involvement. Would probably be much different with a better OL.
yeah, if we faced a better D line, we would be in real trouble with some of the big plays we are getting away with
but when do we actually play a good defense ?
wvu’s is supposed to be legit. we’ll see
I forgot about them , interesting
definitely the oline – hope they come around in time
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/645315979631661057
Good
I would like to see a wildcat formation next time we get the ball.
Nah I’ll stick with whats working
Green is a surprise.
He is slow too though, look at his HS film. Good tackle.
I hate these bend but don’t break defenses, sooner or later you get broke.
Nice D, getting the punt
WTF……we dont teach the DB’s to turn their head?
that was alexander
Lots of time for Baker, Tulsa D is sitting back, get a few draws in there to reel them back in.
Another planned fair catch. UGH!
No, short punt for coverage.
You may be right, I may be crazy. LOL
We’re in punt safe right there. No return set up. Don’t wanna risk penalty/TO I reckon.
I would agree, I got all hot and bothered by the stop and am hungry for a score!
That’s how I would play it in a game like this.
Wow I don’t like that 3rd down call for them.
I do.
Me, I loved it. Sorry.
I think the non-touched blitzer had something to do with the outcome.
Okay now we’re playing Some D. TD drive to end this thing.
field pos
Tim Brando is high as a mufu. Said they should’ve went for it on 4th and 6 from own 25. Lol.
Shepard has got to have the worst feel for punts I’ve ever seen! So weird given how good he is in space
I don’t think that’s Shep. Pretty sure he’s being told to fair catch it.
I believe we were in fake punt def posture
Kenny Roger’s beard epitomizes the word commitment
and Howie Long’s haircut too
Can we just have a methodical drive for a score and use some clock? Want a TD, but a FG would be fine also.
Great stop on that series. Get a score here and we can catch out breath..
https://twitter.com/EricBaileyTW/status/645316900013019136
D is playing better!
That’s excellent. They’ve really improved from the first half. Is Green coming in a coincidence?
No
Goes to show you how biased some of us are to remembering the negative plays more than the positive! Guilty.
Yes
Nice run Perine.
Alvarez is just horrible
What?
go to oubreakdown.com You’ll see how bad but he is just bad
At center, or just generally horrible?
Bench em. If they aren’t ready use the older guys.
For who? Does Dalton play center?
Dalton is a center but is at guard and doing well. whiffed on LB once, not getting driven back, strong
Baker now has the record!!!
Nice.
Which record?
Total yardage for a QB.
for OU QB’s
In Shep we trust.
Perine = Beast
don’t know how you can tackle him in the 4th quarter of a track meet game
that would have been a good time for a wildcat
I love how Shep is always snatching the ball out of the air when he makes receptions. Textbook receiving. And the guy is 100% Sooner.
Good run
Hell yeah!
Perine you my friend are a stud!
He is grindin’
BEASTMODE!
Darn
Been pretty clean in the 2nd until that.
Do they keep calling him SamaRjae?
Yes he does.
Is that our first false start today? or second?
I would love to see Alex Ross on a sweep just once before the end of the season.
Get out of the man’s way.
I want to see Perine pull off one of those long AD-style runs.
There you go
Beast time may get 100 today!
TD!! And took a few guys with him
Seeet Pe!
Our schedule is going to give our OL to get better. Coach B better get with it
I love that we are rotating guys in and out. We are committed to building depth
a chance that is
What a run!!!
BEAST!!!! PERINE!!! BOOMER!
I love that dude! Just wearing them out now.
Half a hunerd!!!
And probably close to 70 if not for the turnovers….but hey, I’ll take the 52…and the win.
Exactly. Gives some study material for the bye week.
CAN’T STOP THIS!!
Damn, that was nice.
Optimus with that STUD TD run, went over 100 yards for the day!
SWEET!
Perine got his Hundy. and a score. BOOMER!!
Best run he had all day IMO was on 3rd and 10 when he refused to be stopped. The man is a BEAST!!!
Atta baby PERINE!!!!!!!!
LOTS of time left. DONT led up!
How many broken tackles has Perine had?
A bunch!
I believe 6,000
Ehhh…….not bad.
These humans can’t stop me………..
The audacity of those mortals to try and tackle him…smh
Throw early with some run mixed in, and as long as the game allows for it, use a fresh Perine to close things out. Seems like a good formula.
Sweet Perine! The Closer!
Over 700 yards of offense today
Yes…game over. Now we can complain…about MS and the D. But remember only 7 points this half…Can’t ask for better than that!
They don’t call him “second-half Stoops (Mike)” for Nothing!
They call him half ass Mike. But we love him
We should on side kick…..they won’t see it coming. 🙂
Am I wrong in thinking that we have one hell of a 4th Quarter team?
No OU Football next week. 🙁
Does that mean we have to watch the Pokes? I’ll need more beer.
Of course not. I’m not that desperate.
GET OUTTA HERE WITH THAT!
Pumped for Oct. 3. Gonna be in town for that one. YES!
Watch TU. Baby brother will be good this year and my tv doesn’t show orange.
Name one team in all of football that can stop the spread offense completely? You can’t, because they don’t exist. It’s all about getting a few stops. The turnovers hurt us today. We’re pretty damn good.
I’ll take it. Turnovers cost 14 more points. Adjusted in 2nd half. I’d like to see what TFB think about your comment on the impossibility of stopping spread O. I agree at this point.
The turnovers really did hurt today, gave Tulsa a lot of momentum before the half. Glad we didn’t let it drag us down on the field in the second half!
On one run, Alvarez got beat so pushed so badly into backfield but that accidentally created a hole for Perine! We’ll take it any way we can get it.
Love it! How’s that for a game finisher. D is worn out and we have a fresh horse waiting to get some.
Onside kick, just for poetic justice!
Wow, we have 731 yards of offense!
Baker’s 570 yards is an OU record for Total Offense. And now you know.
Tulsa scored 14 pts in 12 seconds. With 4 minutes left, let’s shut them out
All I heard was how Jordan Thomas was this incredible scholar. What can he be doing to keep getting in trouble?
That’s what I think every time too. He’s still a teenage boy though, so there’s no telling.
I think it stems back to whatever happened in the summer when we heard a few guys were going to miss a game or two this year. Guess Bob didn’t want him missing the Tenn game.
Mayfield’s QB rating in 226 for this game.
That is just pitiful!
Are we in prevent D?
Despite some of our challenges, gotta admit I’m lovin all the yardage and points!
You know, despite the numbers we gave up through the air and on the ground both, I have told many people that this Tulsa team probably has the 2 best WR’s that we will face until Baylor, Lucas and Garrett could play in the Big 12. Overall I still am impressed with this squad and Baker will be just fine in the Big 12 he seems to be a guy once he gets in a groove he is going to go off. Overall I am impressed and think we saw the whole, the rb’s see a crease and they are gone aspect today, of course TU is not as fast up front as Akron or Tenn was but still.
This is definitely a MUCH better Tulsa team than we’ve seen in a long time
Mean Lucas and Garrett have been playing a long time 2 and 3 year starters I believe and Evans is a 3 year starter and Langer is just tough!
Garrett will make some noise in the NFL, in my opinion.
Oh my, how does our secondary get so burned???
That is a blown coverage
Oh, come on…
Now that was just awful
Can’t Tulsa just give up? Stop it.
That’s not what you want in a prevent.
prevent us from winning 🙂
that was blown by coverage
Time for Perine to close this game out.
Young playing young. smh.
Good hand team get ready.
not ready for hurryup
I’ve come to the conclusion that we don’t have a talented secondary once again or they are just too young (not Sanchez).
You can almost see them saying, ” You got him? No, you do….Oops” SMH
Wow. Not over yet boys!
Obviously have to recover onside
Not a fan of A. Thomas. Wish we were playing the young safeties a bit more to get them some experience.
Always poor effort by Thomas
What can we do on D? Real question. What needs to happen to this D?
Better players and coaching.
I don’t by the better players. Lesser teams have had success stopping this kind of O. Something needs to change for sure though.
Like which teams? Baylor lost it’s bowl by giving up 60 points…TCU lost by giving up 60 to Baylor…Bama gave up 45 and 41 to OU and OSU. I am starting think you have to outscore people.
Coaching? What would you call? It’s ability to execute.
Don’t ask me, I don’t make millions coaching football. You really think our athletes are being put in the best position today?
Does Tulsa remind anybody else of Paul Newman in Cool Hand Luke in his fight?
“Geeeez, stay down!!!!”
Good gracious Ahmad. No bueno.
Hahaha that was bad
lampkin has no idea what you just said
Let’s make this last 3:30 the Perine and Mixon show.
reminds me of the West Virginia game a few years ago
thank god for the bye. we have about 2 weeks of teachable moments to learn from
Got to give Tulsa some credit, they’ll most likely have a great year, and their non-conference schedule runs circles around the Pokes
We better burn clock here. They will score again if they get ball back/
Mike Stoops is out of touch with current offenses! Keeping him this year will cost us at least 2 games….may be more.
It’s not him. We just don’t have the athletes to do anything than what we do, sorry
Then it is him….who recruits the athletes??
Exactly. It’s not Mike’s fault on the busts, and the Hail Mary. Take away that stupid stuff, and sure, TU had a lot of yards, but they probably only have about 17-21 points. I can live with that.
It’s not his fault on the busts, but he should know his personell and not put players in position to fail. Ahmad Thomas should never be covering the opponents best slot Wr in man coverage.
There is zero chance of avoiding stuff like that all game long. Everybody praises the OU offense when they create mismatches, well, the other teams are trying to do the same thing to us. And sometimes they are going to be able to. No excuse for Thomas’ effort on that play.
Yeah I completely agree. You’re gonna give up some things to these offenses. But to me the problems are more systemic than a play here or there.
I do not believe that at all. Again lesser teams do better than we do with lesser athletes.
Not against this kind of offense
Totally agree….our DBs look lost on most plays against decent passing offenses.
Last week everybody said he couldn’t defend a dual threat qb. MS is a good coordinator. My only complaint is the cushion he gives spread attacks. Letting tons of WRs run free makes no sense.
He would be a great DC in the SEC or 15 years ago….not so good now.
Maybe ou could hire you.
Still feel that way…..Jacka$$
Pretty sure you can change the color of your shirt again.
Do all of us real fans a favor and keep the orange color on.
Never get down on your team, Douchebag
You moron….did you even graduate from OU? Or Jr. high for that matter? I’ve been a Sooner fan for life….you are an idiot! Go cry with your other Poke flukies…
Offered w/o comment, 600+ yards allowed by the OU defense today.
D sucks again. I do not get this crap.
Thats terrible
Ouch, that hurts. I don’t care who you’re playing.
Move Mike to the parking lot??
In Tucson?
yes a parking lot not in Norman!
Before this game Tulsa hanged 31 to beat ou in 1996.
Today ou gave up 38… So far
That won’t look good on the stat sheet.
THIS IS THE MOST POINTS TULSA HAS EVER SCORED ON OU. 38
I’m surprised by all of the soft coverage. It’s eerily reminiscent of the Baylor game. Love this offense minus the turnovers. But the D needs to take the lessons from this game and apply that to the conference schedule. Baylor and TCU will eat this up
Baylor can eat us up , TCU spread attack is a lot more easier to stop
I hear what you’re saying. But I think you have to get pressure on Boykin and I’m not seeing a lot of pressure.
We really need to get a TD …. that false start won’t help
First down!!!! Perine is the man
Just plain awesome!
PERINE IS A STUD!
Wow
Perine= The Closer.
Nice cuts by the big man!
Optimus Perine is back.
It’s almost like he can see that yellow tv line.
Perine to OU’s offense: “Jump on my back and I’ll carry you home. Tulsa, you guys jump on, and Ill carry you, too!”
The spread offense led to the rise of Bob Stoops, may also lead to his demise
Not BS fault. No ones stopping it.
get off my lawn!
what?
you sound like a blithering old man
Watch it Brent
does your lawn by chance have rusted cars on it? I’m kidding. Chill out, just an observation
its going to be Perine till they prove they can stop him
When everybody on the planet knows who is getting the ball and you still get three yards, best to put in 11 linemen and LBs.
AD was a closer in his day. If he keeps starting slow I hope the hard finishes follow.
So let me get this the D plays bad today, against an pretty talented O, mean let’s be honest TU is a lot better than anyone gave them credit, shouldn’t be a surprise mean Montgomery has prepared for OU for a few years now just saying and they have some players. So back to the point get mad that the D gets beat on a little yet 2 week they where the GOD squad and the O was terrible and we can’t do a thing, then today thank GOD for the O cause the D can’t stop anyone. Good teams need one or the other to show up ad do work when the other doesn’t fake fans and hateful fans need to go somewhere else like OSU!!!
Lighten up, Frances.
No I won’t people are stupid, they want perfect and this is a team with flaws, stupid couch players and coaches thinking they can do better gets old be happy we won
I’ll react however I like, thank you.
It was just a joke. Sounds like you’re the one stressing out.
I can’t agree with you more. This is the first time I’ve read any of the game threads and it will be my last. What a bunch of whiners.
Hmm..sounds like you’re whining.
i don’t think brien is the one that needs to lighten up. there are a bunch of idiots or trolls or both on here. to freak out every single freaking play that doesn’t go our way from a bunch of people who never played a sport in their life is beyond tired. we won. they’re decent. move on with life(and no i don’t think anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot-let’s get that outta the way)
This forum is for people to express their joy, frustration, exhilartion and disappointments. If you want only cheerleading, grab some pom poms and hit the field.
easy there cochise. all i’m saying is if people are gonna run their mouth off they’re gonna hear about from some of us that don’t want negative bullcrap after every single play. its a 2 way street last i checked
I have no problem with that. But I was on this thread all second half, and I didn’t see inappropriate comments. What I mainly saw was whining fabout the occasional negative comment. Most of my notes, as you may know from my posts all season, are positive and enthusiastic. But I will ocassionally let loose with a frustration, and have no issue when others do as well. Indeed, it’s a two-way street.
i get it. i usually don’t have many bones to pick. its just when people start the forest fires, such as mike stinks. these people have no clue what they are talking about and freaking coaches that are on here keep saying it. but for some reason people want to run with things they “think” are right when in essence they don’t know jack squat. i heard a smattering of boos in-game in the 1st half when we got bottled up in the backfield on a run. really? you’re gonna boo a bunch of youngsters who are put together by duct tape? i hope alot of people are better than that
I am not saying they are perfect but, the negative replies right after a win is stupid mean yea we have some things to work on but, OU will be fine and TU will be just as good of a team offensively as we will play all year and most likely will be better than Baylor in total offense just saying.
yeah. agreeed. if we call em out we’re lecturing em, supposedly. the thing is if we had played baylor today, i don’t know how we’d have done. we didn’t play em. we played tulsa and beat tulsa. if they’re gonna spout the mouth they’re gonna hear about it. just the way its gonna be
Maybe they should move Mike to the blimp
Bahahaa…after that, Pluto?
Everyone go see HS tape on sanchez, mbanasor, marcus green. We do NOT have any burners in the CB 2 deep. It’s just how it is. We can gamble with press but outside of Parker, our safety’s aren’t going to remind anyone of Ed Reed. Our D line is as good as any in the country. Parker is a stud and as are 1/2 of our LBs, the backside is no bueno
See, The Coors worked!!!! BOOOOOOOOMER!!!!!!!
Dang! Perine is like a 1st down vacuum cleaner!
haven’t had a chance to check in. Have we fired all the coaches yet?
No, but Mike has been moved to the blimp.. lol
My favorite formation.
Not perfect but a wins a win. GOOD WIN BOYS!
Lots to work on and some time to do it.
Secondary, D L play or scheme?
All at one point or another.
https://twitter.com/SoonerStats/status/645322870160261120
Didn’t Baylor score more last year?
‘non-OT win’
Baylor wasn’t an OT win. We were out of it early.
NVM, win is the word. Doh!!!
But just 7 in the second half……
Yep, after half time our D was pretty good except on the TD we gave up.
Well, it’s a win. But it sure left me worrisome. D looked very much like last season. Let’s hope for some improvement during the bye.
I really thought our D line would be more disruptive. Got gashed on the ground more than I expected.
Well we got the win so that’s that.
Just like in 2000, win and move on.
Ultimately, the game is about having more points than your opponent. If we manage to outscore every opponent we’ll win the title.
Tyler @ NEO? Anyone?
Give us a report later.
?Please?
I’m not that polite. 🙂
🙁
fix that secondary for crying out loud
They have a lot of examples of what not to do now. That’s for sure.
Win is a win, but I think we’re a year or so (and possibly new d coordinator) away from competing for aa playoff spot.
I do think we will need a new DC. I know people want to say we do not have the athletes and to some extent that may be true. However we did haul in a heck of a class last year (Defensive Backfield.)
The problem I see is our DC simply does not know how to attack this O. He is scared of it and plays to not give up a big play. Example: Soft Zone coverage allowing for that simple slant all day long.
Exactly right….we are on our heels instead of attacking. We need a new DC to win the Big 12.
Nothing wrong with playing off as long as you have some underneath support. Our LB’s are MIA when it comes to defending the pass.
pick your poison. help on slant or stay home for back coming out of backfield
Yeah you definitely have to pick your poison against that offense. They were in no back a lot though. Would’ve liked to see us drop back and rush two when they go to that. Make the Qb beat you running in that case.
Nah, I think we need to go back to our 4-2-5 we started playing when the Stoops’ brothers took over at OU.
Hey, I have no doubt we were facing some “let down” instances (especially with that early lead), and some damn good receivers. Tulsa is going to have a great season. Though we have some things to work on, its bye week, and we go into it a winner, and 3-0 baby. Good win.
Do you think anyone was watching this poke game before it switched over?
I still have qqqqqqquestions :/
We’ve seen at various times that we have the pieces. When we put them all together at the same time, it might be a beautiful thing.
Too much Haterade on here today!!!! A win is a win be happy that the O showed up, the D was golden the last 2 weeks, oh you of little faith, guess y’all can’t be happy about a DAMN thing
I loved what I saw from the O, other than the turnovers. But I am sorry the d was horrible. We looked good the last two weeks because Mike knows how to defend against running teams. He however has no clue how to defend the Baylor Spread.
Have you ever been to a game thread? It’s this way every time. Actually, its worse on late day games…. Then, more time for alcohol to set in.
No and at this point I’ll avoid it from now on. Was it perfect no but we got the W and 100 yard rusher and saw that Baker is legit the positives people. Like I said below Montgomery knew how to attack us and had the players to do it. I bet TU is as good on the offensive side of the ball this year as Baylor if not better. Mark my words now
Some of these people would b!t¢h about too much saliva with their bj!
You’re daddy use to love it, when OU would win…. Go ahead and just skip to :30 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Af-Id_fuXFA
Lol Oklahoma State doesn’t even know what color of orange they are. Someone should tell them it’s ugly either way.
what is your tale on the OL play?
I thought they actually played pretty well. Especially considering it was a re-shuffled line.
yup…
Hard to say based on the competition.
Does OU drop in the polls this week from this performance?
No
who cares – we win out we go naty – if not we don’t
No
Could go up depending on how the sec does today. 🙂
Real question is, If Tennessee wins, do they jump back in and pass us? lol
Depends on if they knock off an SEC powerhouse like Vandy or something.
Depends how hard eSECpn is on OU this week.
Yeah and Missouri will go up
Any questions about Riley not utilizing the run game have been answered. And what was Baker? 33 out of 36 last I saw. Player of the game with the play of the game on that scramble and throw to Andrews for the TD. I’ll take it.
33 of 39 I think..
33-39, 487 yards, 4TD’s and no turnovers for Baker! 85 yards rushing and 2 TD’s. Awesome day for Baker. Perine with 152 yards rushing.
Thanks. How great is that and I don’t care what jv team you’re playing against.
newsok says 33/38, thats 87%. Those are Bradford type accuracy numbers, not bad. Wonder what the QB rating will figure out with those numbers.
Through the roof comes to mind. Unbelievable day for Mayfield.
i got home and tuned in just in time to see that play ,, very thankful for that
Riley knows how many cylinders his engine has.
Just wait until his machine is firing on all cylinders.
Was a heck of a heady play by Baker on that throw. My dad and I both love how he makes sure to take the time to get his shoulders squared up with his target before throwing on the run. The more I see him, the more and more impressed I am with his abilities – dude is a GAMER for sure!
D wasn’t good. That slant was open all day. Execution is a problem but the defensive calls were suspect. I don’t know that Mike knows what to do with an offense like this. Mbanasor got burned some but I expect that from a freshman. I didn’t expect Sanchez to get burned quote so much. But a win is a win and I’m happy for the rest of the day. Let’s get ready for the conference schedule! BOOMER!
Slant is damn near always open, against any team if its a good throw… When did Sanchez get “burned?”
Just an observation. You’re free to disagree.
First half was pretty brutal for Sanchez. Garrett was having his way with him.
Yea, but when I think “burned,” I think that TD that A. Thomas got “burned” on. Maybe I’m just nit-picking at the word choice. But yea, Garrett did some work..
I believe we stopped them several times on slants for too little yardage or none , when we needed it in the 4th
My prediction score was 52-31, I was close on that. I knew this was going to be tougher than all the “experts” thought. Tulsa has a very potent offense. They have looked good so far on the season. That being said, we had a couple of times we were out of position and the stupid hail mary. Other than that, I thought we did good. Without the two turnovers this game is not near as close as the final score. 3-0 heading in to the bye. Good job SOONERS!
I would recommend not being too despondent over the defense, or too optimistic about the offense based upon this game. Tulsa’s offense is way better than most folks are giving them credit for, they’re gonna give folks fits this year, and their defense is really pretty weak, as usual.
My thoughts on the defense…..
I didn’t think they played as bad as most will probably think. The scheme was vanilla, which it should be. No reason to give game film to WVU, Baylor, TCU, and whomever else if we don’t have to. And we shouldn’t have had to. If we don’t fumble those two ball, we probably win this thing going away. But we gave TU a shot, and some confidence, and that allowed them a few more scores.
Pretty obvious to me the bend but don’t break defense would have worked today without the busts and Hail Mary. Probably hold TU to about 21-24 points in that case, which while not great, isn’t terrible. Those TU WR’s are legit, and the QB throws a good ball. Also an awesome offensive scheme.
That said, I think we’re a little undertalented in the secondary, and that problem may take another 2 seasons to fix. Not sure why Haughton and Sunderland didn’t get a little bit of PT today. Can’t be much worse off than Byrd and Thomas. And shame on Jordan Thomas for being a knucklehead and putting his team in a bad spot by not being available to play today.
In short, I’m not as upset with the scheme or the coaching. Gotta clean up the busts and miscommunications, and eventually add more talent.
I like this perspective – two weeks to get better – no need to throw in the towel – thanks
Yep, I agree with you. Not as bad as everyone was making it to be (those who were complaining).
If you are ok with this defense, your standards are low. Technique in secondary is awful. One could read the Defense from the stands and know the target before the snap. Both corners never saw the ball when covering intermediate or deep routes. Not a blitz to be seen. I don’t buy the vanilla thing either. All we could do on deep routes was try to obstruct the receivers vision.
Convince the guys can do a lot better. If we can’t TCU will make us pay.
My standards are not low. OU ran a very generic vanilla defense Saturday. No reason to give away anything to WV, TCU, & Baylor already. Now our coverage could have been better, but I think they will be just fine. Have you noticed what Baylor and TCU’s defenses have done against the spread so far this year? Giving up tons of yards and points. It’s not just a problem with our D, it is everywhere.
Biggest complaint with the scheme is that the LB’s are missing in coverage. No underneath support for those short routes. Bringing one more than they can block in pass rush, but they get it out fast which negates it. Never seemed to make an adjustment.
I think the frustration is that we played exactly the same way vs Baylor last year. We were hoping to see a new strategy this year.
I also don’t buy that we were being vanilla to save anything. That’s not really how it works on defense. When teams are going fast, you don’t have time to get into exotic blitz/coverage schemes. You just have to line up and play.
Two things that stood out to me watching the defense today and really the two biggest things that need to be corrected before we enter conference play.
1) Young corners need to learn when to turn their heads and look for the ball, their coverage actually wasn’t bad and if they had just turned their heads and looked they could’ve broken up a lot of those deep passes that went to #88 on the right side of the defense.
2) Zach Sanchez needs to STOP playing 8 yds off the ball, especially on 3rd and long. If you go back and re-watch the game you will see that not only is he playing 8 yds off the receiver, but also that he is one of the ONLY d-backs that is standing on the back side of the first down marker at the snap when Tulsa was in long passing situations. Drove me nuts and he SHOULD know better.
Other than that I agree with you that the defense played pretty well all things considered (first real test of the year for the secondary). I’m glad that we have the bye week before conference play and also film to use to develop a game plan to stop Baylor’s scheme before we play them later on in the year. BOOMER!!!
Agree TU, the fumbles before half kept this from being a blowout. The OU defense needs to start creating their own turnovers, something they have not done much going back to last season. AND Is that 2 times already J Thomas has been in the doghouse? Seems like the kid has the wrong kind of attitude to be in Norman too much longer.
Hung half a Hunnerd on TU, without our starting center and missing a key Dback… yep fire everyone…
No one is saying that.
you haven’t been following along then
Not everyone. Just one person, lol.
I hope for your sake that you’re drunk
you see what you wanna see. just like our argument earlier…or i should say your argument. since only one of us said nfl. but whatever helps your innate need to be right
Tons of people are saying that… especially at halftime
I haven’t been real big on Hatari, but I thought he had a decent game, particularly in run support.
Yeah, he’s pretty good against the run. Good size and strength.
Seems like when a S makes a tackle, it’s usually a bad thing because it’s often 7-8 yards downfield. Byrd was hitting them within a couple of yards of the LOS.
He definitely played much more consistently today than I ever saw him play last year.
pic.twitter.com/d0tqrhNqQk
Congrats to Baker on his record-breaking day. Time to get back to work now.
Yup its all Coach Mikes fault that Jordan Thomas was out and Sanchez got worked. It is Coach Mikes fault that Ahmad Thomas and Byrd don’t have the hips or eye discipline to play safety well on a consistent basis. It was coach Mike that fumbled twice and wasn’t ready for the onside. Tulsa did a great job of using a big receiver on Sanchez which he has always struggled against and then abusing PJ who is going to be very good but wasn’t ready for this today. Couple of things that I do completely put on Coach Mike… 1) get the damn call in and get lined up 2) do not ever let someone dictate to you what you’re going to do, you do what you do best and make them adjust to you. Bond and Striker need to be out there together and getting after the qb. You make the offense figure out a way to block both of them. Other than that, the defensive calls weren’t bad, the execution was. Eventually someone has to make a play.
the kid who came in for PJ played pretty well for a youngster.
agree……marcus green did come in and play well…..
Yes, he did, Stephen. Played very well. Played some STs as well. First game on the field for the young man.
AMEN TO THIS! Good call Josh!
DB’s have some talent, they were up against some big receivers today with an accurate QB throwing the ball.

Wouldn’t you say if we all knew Sanchez vs Garrett was a bad matchup that Mike probably knew also? And did absolutely nothing to combat it?
You are SOOOO right. He should have put in Dakota Austin.
There’s no adjustment to make. That’s the best option you have. You think they have a better corner that they aren’t playing for fun?
I disagree. When did it become a rule that we could only play man coverage? If you have no one better, then play under with a safety over the top. Bracket him. Try something. Why would you resort to just letting him have catch after catch? Why would that be the best option?
And last year, everyone was complaining that we didn’t play man coverage and they just beat us with short passes. So yeah, that hasnt worked either.
Good point. Nothing we have done has worked. But to be honest I think our scheme today and last year home to Baylor were essentially the exact same.
Well you’re wrong and clearly out of your depth here lol
Touche, lol.
Well said!
Ok, so not MS since they are all his recruits. Our Cb’s were chasing all day and turn their hips the wrong way, that’s on them right? Who is making the money and why is he not responsible.
Truth is the coaches have a lot of teaching to do and they know it. The next game will tell.
Yup they should fire Mike Stoops and hire you
Spot on Josh, we go from being late with offense calls last year to exact opposite this year.
Scheme was dumb, as you said in 2). Mike can yell and cuss about playing with an edge, but when he puts a defense out there with little chance to succeed, he is the one with no edge. Every team we play should go 4 and 5 wide all game so Mike will take an elite pass rusher off the field. The whole point of having super fast pass rusher is to get to the spread QBs in the first place. Also, on a 3rd and long, when we should be pinning our ears down, we had 4 guys in the box, rushed 3 and gave TU QB all day to make first down, which he did. Those mistakes are inexcusable, moronic mistakes.
Admittedly it’s likely that Baylor has more talent at some offensive positions, but Tulsa is no slouch at all the skill spots, and what I saw here was night and day compared to last year’s performance vs. Baylor. Plenty of room for more improvement, still, but plenty of improvement noted.
Shepard is having an All American season.
Hats off to Marcus Green. I really like what he showed on a positive note for the defense.
Agree. PJ had a bit of a rough time, but I imagine he learned a lot. I just wish JT had gotten some experience against this spread attack.
I’ll bet PJ does a LOT of head turning work next week. That was his main fault today. Covered well for a youngster.
Agree Sooner Ray, he was in great position most of the game. When he goes back and watches that film with Cooks he’s going to realize how many missed opportunities he had to break up/pick off Tulsa’s QB.
That PI against him was garbage. However, had he turned his head, it wouldn’t have happened, but it still was a very bad call.
Agree it shouldn’t have been called but if he just looks over his shoulder it’s a good play.
I will give the ref on the other side due credit, however, for an excellent call on the subtle but effective push off by their #1.
Yes, we were fortunate that was called…..often isn’t.
Jordan Thomas needs to get it together and put himself in a position to stay on the field. He’s too talented and I thought too mature to let off field issues make him miss this significant amount of time so far.
Days like today always leave me with one question. How dominate would an OU team have to be before none of the fans would fine something to complain about?
77-0 would be a good start
Hmm 600 yards at home sold out. Forget we are Oklahoma….nah your right no complaints
We won. Go have a beer and enjoy it.
Did I miss someone complaining?
You may not have seen it, but I’m sure you didn’t miss it!
Exactly!
You’re never going to play perfect. So there’s always improvements to make. “Complaining” doesn’t mean you aren’t happy.
Ha, sorry, some people are miserable bastards. Agreed.
Will never happen. Even if we win every game, someone will complain.
Hmm…I’m guessing giving up fewer than 600 yards to Tulsa. But I’m guessing.
I understand you can’t really shut down these types of offenses and we have to respect the run, but at the same time why not Parker to safety and put another corner in for Byrd? Or a corner for one of our inside backers? Make these type of teams show that they can beat us running the ball then make adjustments from there.
Good point. Not sure what the deal is with Will Johnson; maybe he’s just not ready.
Could be like Bond and need a year to get his feet under him. I remember people asking where he was last year and look at how he’s playing now!
I think they see Parker as their number 2 cover man and are using him to cover slots.. I also believe they played a simple defense to not give any blitz or coverage schemes away just yet..
Uh they showed they can run the ball. 176 yards on the ground, game’s leading rusher and over four yards a carry.
Curious question. Why does the offense dictate if we have striker in or not? Defenses in the NFL play Nickel and dime packages every game, and those are the times you have your best pass rushers on the field together, not take them out. Can we not run a true 4 front because Striker and Bond are both not true DE’s? Man I miss a true DE.
We have several true DE’s on the roster. It’s just the scheme Mike is running and matchups.
Then put striker and Bond as outside backers, and attack these biatch offenses! Seems like we finally have the players to have made the 3-4 work, and then we switch again. Just look at Denver Broncos with Demarcus Ware and Von Miller. Those two rush damn near every play, and never leave the field…
Ha, yeah but those are two of the best players on the planet at that position.
Also, that is exactly where they play and what they do.
Yea I know. But a man can hope! lol
They alternate Striker and Bond at standup DE against passing teams and play them both in the 3-4-4 against running teams or running downs or in the 2-4-5 on passing downs.
They also have 2 small DEs on the other side in Ward and Obo, so they use a bigger 3-tech Walker when they are in the game and a smaller 3-tech Dimon when Tapper is at the other DE.
IMO, they are too small on the DL. That will get fixed, but probably not this year.
The reason the calls “appear” to be late is that Tulsa lined up and ran plays so quickly. Stoops said at half-time that the D wasn’t getting lined up in time. The latter is on the players.
Mike stoops needs to go watch tapes on how Oklahoma State was stopping Baylor, especially the year the trounced them in stillwater
West Virginia’s win against them last year was quite impressive.

Playing live action against a team that runs their offense at this speed will really help the defense understand what they need to do. Lots of improvement needed, but there were a few easily correctable errors on both sides of the ball that would have changed the outcome dramatically and made things feel a little better.
and a little luck at the end of the 1st half and the score is ugly. great halftime adjustments

When they played 2-4-5, Obo and Tapper were the DTs with Bond and Striker as the OLBers.
We defended the outside WR’s better when we played off only 3-4 yds and broke on the ball or WR aggressively when the pass went that way. Playing off 7 yds does not work against that offense.
It varied from one possession to the next and there were a few where it seemed like they were too casual in closing, but as the game progressed there were plenty of series where they seemed to tighten things down a lot.
I have to think our coaches might have been changeing coverage a bit to guage what works best with our personnel. Tulsa, this year, presented a unique chance to preview an offense that presents as close to a “typical” Big 12 offense as we are gonna see before the meat of the conference schedule, and without the same degree of risk on gamble.
I was thinking this same thing earlier.
OU gives up 38 points and over 600 yards to an OC conference game at home and people are really wondering why others are on here griping. It never ceases to amaze me……
Exactly. and the people who are sceptical are not because they don’t enjoy the win, it’s because we have high expectations for the team and want to see it at the top where it belongs. But everyone knows that we that kind of defence you don’t get to the top
At this point I’d take mediocre intentions on D. 600 yards in our house? That’s just awful.
As Nebraska about high expectations. Or Miami. Or Michigan. Or USC. Or Texas. Or Florida. Or Tennessee.
But it’s the type of griping that doesn’t make any sense. Mike Stoops blah blah blah. Anyone ever stop to think maybe we just don’t have as excellent players as in the past? you can’t gripe about that now can you? not during the game anyways. So you take it out on someone else. Just accept it and root on.
First of all i don’t put the blame on mike stoops only . Everyone is happy for the win, which is the most important thing , but let’s face it 600 yards against TU is too much. Even if the talent level is not as it is used to be…
what never ceases to amaze me is people constantly running their mouths and wondering why they get called on it. feel free to say “mike stinks, fire him” and “sanchez stinks, bench him” and so on and so forth, but its a 2 way street. if you’re gonna run the mouth expect fire in return. if you’ve never done anything in your life, what gives you the right to rag on people, especially the kids

Big12 should get those sec refs , that let you play with 12 men on the field
I continue to be a little surprised that Alex Ross gets zero appearances in the backfield.
He has zero lateral movement. Trust me. He won’t get one carry out of the backfield all season.
“He has zero lateral movement. Trust me. He won’t get one carry”
Humbly disagree and I eagerly look forward to your graceful eating of the baked plate of crow, when he eventually does… 🙂
Remember I said out of the backfield. He may line up and get a reverse or something but not a traditional running back carry. I am 100% certain of this. He is 4th on the depth chart. Only reason he’s not 5th is because Anderson was injured. I like Ross as a return threat but he’s not any good at RB.
“Remember I said out of the backfield.”
I heard you the first time. You better get all your reservations and qualifications in now :-). No reverses, ok.
Well he’s already had runs from the backfield so…
That was when TK came in against Akron. I’m pretty sure we’re talking meaningful carries with first team offense. At least I assume that’s what soonermusic was talking about.
I agree. He is not much of a run threat unless he has huge hole. I wouldnt mind him getting a few “quick pops” up the line though from the fullback position though. He gets a chance to “quick hit,” and he gone. His ball carrier vision is just not like the other backs..
For the people saying the TU/BU Air Raid offensive scheme can’t be stopped, our 2003 and 2008 teams were some of the best offenses in the history of CFB at the time, both were effectively shut down in the Bowls. (And yes I’m still butthurt about it)
These offenses can be stopped. They’re gonna make plays for sure, but we shouldn’t be giving up 600 yards to Tulsa.
“our 2003 and 2008 teams ” The air raid scheme has come a long way since either of those offenses were on the field. Can’t compare.
But defenses haven’t?
Defenses have not progressed nearly enough against the latest round of changes. Historically, it’s usually a pendulum, but so far the swing is way in favor of the sideline to sideline spread.
Agree with you guys that the offenses are ahead of the defenses right now across the country, but I disagree that no one has a decent blueprint of how to stop it. I just don’t think we have the athletes to play that way.
You got someone in mind who has consistently stopped this level of spread? You see it for one game here or there, especially when all the breaks go one way in a given game, but a consistently successful blueprint no matter the quality of the athletes, I haven’t seen. WVU did a nice job one game against Baylor, not so much in other games, for example.
There are plenty of teams running it that don’t win a ton of games.
My overall point is that we are not putting ourselves in good places due to scheme, and we haven’t made any significant adjustments to correct it.
I thought we moved to the 3-4 to stop this offense? And yet we’re arguably no better at stopping it.
If Bama can’t consistently stop them, I’m not sure anybody can right now. And Bama has certainly had their problems.
In each of those bowl games, our OL was out played by the other team’s DL.
I would say our Wr’s were well covered and outplayed in those games too.
There was a lot of that as well.
Yea can be stopped with 5 star recruits all over the place. i don’t think its a coaching thing but a talent thing.
We have ZERO seniors in the secondary, and 1 RS-junior in Sanchez who was a Mike recruit right after he arrived. Still paying for Martinez’s recruiting failures.
Sanchez got worked today
so did tulsa
Our whole secondary was worked over today. Showed some gaps that need closed.
That 6’4 WR was tough for him.
I’m liking Farniok at LG. I think we should stick with that. He looked good run blocking
That freakin inside run that Baylor OC’s use is the most annoying play to me ever. It is always difficult to defend for whatever reason
— hats off to tu…..that was a penalty away from probably being a one score game late
— interesting switch this week, o bails out the d
— it’s a w
— probably good the d got exposed since we’re going to see better teams with similar attacks and better d…….2 wks off and they know they have a ton to work on
To go with that 2 weeks, they also have some real game examples to use as teaching points.
Yeah, didn’t want them sitting around for two weeks talking about how dominate they are. 🙂
Impressed with the OL today despite the fact that none of them were starting for us last year. I’m drinking the koolaid that our defense was playing to not provide any tape material for the Big 12 offenses. What they have of us on film is nothing more than what they have from last year. We’ll start playing lock down coverage in conference play. Right Mike? Right?
I don’t buy that for a minute. Our defense has the same holes as last season for the exact same reasons.
No koolaid for you? I have no idea why. Ha! My fingers are crossed!!!
I share your concerns. Had trouble covering their receivers and pressuring the QB. But I will remain optimistic. Have two weeks to prepare and improve before WVU.
I want to believe that…..but I was at the Baylor game and this looks eerily familiar.
Yup. Looked identical except that parts where we actually scored.
We had three drives stopped by 2 fumbles and an easy drop. Otherwise, this offense was sick today. I was very impressed with the “design” of many of the plays, such as the shallow slant pass where Dede ran clear across the field from the left and when he caught the ball on the right side, there were blockers waiting for him. Just a well designed play. Saw many such plays today.
That being said, it doesn’t matter what plays are called, if the execution isn’t there. The execution was there today. Until the fumble by Perine, the O had scored on its last 8 possessions, 7 TDs and one FG, including the 4th Q and OT last week.
Baker was awesome. Some plays he threw to his third read. Ran when he needed to run, almost always ran out of trouble. WRs get an A today. Outstanding day. Just one bad drop.
St John, say what you will, but the young man plays to the whistle every down, always down field blocking the pile forward.
OL is coming along. Once again, the other team’s D was gassed in the 4th Q, but ours was not. Schmitty time.
Loved the offense. Baker Mayfield was great! We’ll need better D in the Big 12.
Agreed, considering Tulsa was Baylor Lite
Agreed. Other than the fumbles, I have no complaints about the offense today. Glad they came out and scored a bunch, just like they should have. Gotta keep improving, but I like where they are at.
Very true. Execution was solid all around on Offense today. Kept the penalties down, only one drop that I remember. Like you said, other than the fumbles it was a pretty flawless game. About as good as you can hope to be.
Yep, one drop by Dallis Todd. FINALLY gets a chance and drops a perfect pass for a first down.
Yes, that stopped a drive.
I think today’s “hodepodge” mix can only help the oline in the long run..
A new flavor of kool aid …crimson and cream….
anyone ever heard what bm area of study is in school…….think he might be pretty succesful in whatever he chooses to get involved in
Business
He won’t get rattled in high level negotiations.
Majoring in magic.
With a Houdini minor.
I said it earlier, “Houdini.”
Nope. It’s Crisco Mafield. That dude is slick.
Slick, but unhealthy and full of trans fats.
But, the end result still tastes good.
True, but it might give ya diarrhea.
Upset stomach goes away quickly. Most of the time!
lol
We call him “Shake and Baker” Mayfield
His family is pretty well off right? Might have a kush job waiting for him.
Tulsa receivers best in the country? “Not sure about that Mister Striker.” Good, but best in the country is a stretch.. (Striker being interviewed right now on radio…)
EDIT: He has some EXCELLENT praise for Mayfield though. Nice to hear.
Good lawd wait till he sees KD Cannon and Corey Coleman.
so much for dramatic sec game, lsu is rolling auburn so far 24 zip………muschamp deal working out well
At least Auburn is earning their top 15 ranking, and silencing the crtics of last week’s game!
meanwhile tOSU is tied at 10 with the NIU powerhouse…
Channel?
I haven’t felt so confident in a QB at Oklahoma since Landry. The confidence I have in Baker keeps me surprisingly calm during the games regardless of what’s going on. It’s a nice thing.
You felt confident with Landry? Only when he had “the ‘stache!” Clean-shaven Landry, Not so much. lol
To each their own. Landry Jones was consistent, and he has the records to prove it.
I actually Like Landry. Except for his “Peyton Manning Scrambling Potential,” and his penchant for “untimely picks.” But then again, what pick isnt untimely!!?? AM I right!? lol
He wasn’t Sam Bradford but he was a damn good College QB.
Agreed. Still has potential in the NFL too. If he ever gets a chance with the number 1’s….
Winningest QB in ou history means something. His wvu and OSU wins were clutch.
I remember watching important games with Landry at QB and cringing everytime the ball went up…. either to curse or cheer when it came down…. It wasnt IF Landry was gonna throw one… it was WHEN… and how much is it gonna affect the game…
Agreed. Think Landry was the better Qb based on what I’ve seen so far, but Mayfield is much much more of a “Gamer”.
He can run. That makes all the difference.
Mechanically, I think that Landry was physically more “suited” for the role of QB, the reason we all continued to miss Sam so much was his “attitude” and his “clutch”. While I do not think that Baker is as “physically or mechanically” sound as either Sam or Landry… I do think he has “attitude and clutch”… and that shiz… that shiz makes a difference.
Effin Favre back there at times. Escape and sling it.
For sure. Landry did have some really clutch throws though.
yeah but I would argue all day that Sam vs Landry in a clutch fight ended in Sam’s favor every time… Baker seems to have alot of Sam’s fight, or more even (hopefully)
I think the difference between the confidence with Landry compared to Sam and now Baker is that the latter are difference makers on the field. Landy always played good, I knew he would, but that never made you feel like you could win it all. Not because of him, though, Landry won a lot of close games. I think for Baker it’s definitely attitude, but not necessarily for Sam; he is one of those QBs that come around once in a lifetime and it was obvious to everyone that watched him play. Anyway, three completely different QBS but I had and have confidence in all of them.
Gosh I hope Sam can stay healthy this year. I know we always knew of his potential, but I even heard Aikman say the other day, that if Sam can stay healthy, you’re talking “mvp potential.” Not comeback player of year, but MVP potential. First time I’ve heard that much praise from someone of Aikman’s caliber. Man I hope he can stay healthy. So fun to watch him sling it.
I think he will. Sam pointed out in an interview that if he hadn’t torn his ACL again he wouldn’t be where he is right now. Though the Rams may have gotten a good win against the Seahawks, I think Sam is better off in Philly than he ever was and ever could be in St. Louis. I’m betting Sam thinks the same.
BM is a playmaker. A gamer. Moxie and determination are hard to beat.
Nebraska getting waxed right now.
Brazilian?
Definitely. They’re ripping it all off.
Ouchie
20-3 Miami at half.
Impressive.
I miss Aaron Colvin, Demontre Hurst, and Tony
I’m not sure these current backs are talented or not. I don’t like the flex off the line. Baylor would light these guys up now, I hope when all of the starters in the secondary are back, they lock down better in the future. Colvin of old was in your face at the line.
We definitely needed Tony Casillas today.
Did we run out of Selmons?
Did they not ever have bad games?
It wasn’t a knock on any particular player or performance. I was reminiscing after the game and remembering players that I really liked to watch play in the secondary. I don’t think you can fault me for that.
Definitely glad for the win. Hoping the team uses the mistakes as learning opportunities to be awesome in the coming weeks.
Why is Mark May back on ESPN?
Why are you watching ESecPN? 🙂
Good one. I rest your honor.
I don’t want to hear people question how we played. Look around the nation. Fsu doesn’t look good against BC. Ohio st can’t get separation from northern Illinois.
At least we took care of business.
I was kind of thinking the same thing now that I’ve gotten the chance to look around the nation a bit… Game could have been a runaway too, if not for those first half turnovers..and the onside kick.
I mean, 14pts in 12 seconds is cool, but kinda “fluky” also..
I think the defense needs to play better but after last week I give them a bit of a pass
Yea, if anyone was due for a little letdown, it was them. Was hoping we could avoid that this year, and show true dominance, but to their credit, they sure did the second half.
We do need to start forcing turnovers. I think we might be -4 on the season. We need to force more than 30 turnovers IMO to be a real championship quality team, even to be a conference champion.
Give them 600 yards of pass, actually.
I’m not even concerned about the passing yards which was more like 430, not 600. But the 150+ rushing yards and the ability of them to make it look easy to run is more concerning. Stopping the run is always more important than stopping the pass.
Yeah, I expected them to post big numbers in the air, but was disappointed they got so many yards on the inside run.
Well, when you’re gearing up to not get beat deep, it leads to lots of pass yards, and inside run yards.
Zack, do you suppose the D alignment to oppose the spread just opens rushing lanes, because you’re rushing where they aren’t. Last week we often had 4 LB’s and Tennessee was pretty much shut down (without much of a passing attack). This week we kinda got lit up, but using last weeks D it would have been much worse against Tulsa’s O.
Well I think ou needs to go back to making teams adjust to them. They should have played bond more, he is obviously the best player on defense.
Agree. I did think that Roughing call he had on him was bogus.
They are too small no the DL. They have either an undersized Dimon at 3-tech or they an undersized SDE in Ward or Obo.
Next year they will bigger on the DL, I hope. Move Dimon to SDE and Obo to standup LBer opposite DeBerry. Walker and Lampkin at 3-tech.
Fournette is destroying Auburn.
Saw that. Nice run right there.
Destroying them.
good grief, fournette putting on a show…….227 so far…..
Still time to get close to Perine?? Almost 2 quarters left…
No, don’t think so. But has 227 on 18 carries. He’s good. Really good.
2-100 yard runs and he has it…well, one would have to be 101. lol
I think Auburn will do anything they can to stop him the rest of the game. I doubt he’ll go over 300.
with all the spread hu o’s today, it’s fun to watch lsu and smash mouth
I haven’t been impressed by him but that was a very nice run. Maybe he’s not as overrated except as I’m typing this, they just said he reminds them of AD. GTFO!!
what does it take to impress you?………lol
Well if the commentator says AD then I expect AD. I don’t think he’s anywhere near as fast as AD. He may have the same strength and equal elusiveness (which isn’t high for either) but AD was in the 4.3s. I don’t think fournette breaks 4.5
Yeah, he doesn’t seem to have AD’s 5th gear top speed.
Not like AD to me, I don’t see the comparison in style. More like a Dupree type runner with that big body.
See and I wouldn’t even say MD who was one of the fastest guys most people have seen at running back.
Slower than dupree.
Announcer just said Fournette reminds him of AD. I’d disagree. Different styles and less speed (AD faster). I’d say more like Dupree, with the way he runs and body type.
Derrick Henry reminds me of Dupree. But not as good.
Yea, really hard to beat that freshman Dupree. Talk about a manchild.
La. Tech up on K State by 7!
I’m a little late to the party, but just want to say, though they have their problems, I think Baker will always put this team in a position to win. He’s like Danny Zuko before Scientology was a thing.
Is that a Grease reference? Fabulous.
I got chills. They’re multiplying. 🙂
Lsu just taking it to auburn right now. I think we’re starting to see that auburn was very overrated coming into this season, if what they did last week against Jacksonville st didn’t already confirm that fact.
But they’re an SEC team. They can’t be overrated!
we’re seeing it. hopefully the people in charge see it and stop recycling sec teams thru the top 15
But, But, where else would you put them? We should have two Top 25’s (we already do, I know…) One just for the SEC, and one for everyone else.
that’s pretty much how it is. if you win a title, you were playing for 15th
Sounds about right. Then ESPN could rank Bama #1 & #2.
They should have fallen much lower in the polls…..they got sec’d.
I thought they were overrated going into the season. Of course, I thought LSU was too so what the hell do I know. I just hope we see Ohio St, Bama, and ND all fall this weekend.
lsu is similar to tx in that neither can seem to find a qb and that’s really strange
Yeah but LSU has a monster HB to make up for it.
hb…..half back?………….unlikely to win secw without qb play and passing game
I think that would be the trap an Alabama D would be built for. They are big, ugly and love to stop the run. They have a heckuva time against the spread offences though. Kinda sounds familiar.
true, plus they play in tuscaloosa this yr………know more about bama qb situation tonite
Maybe not but with stout defense they could be legit top 10 and did not expect that from LSU this year.
Fournette , this dude is a beast
And neither can find a coach. (-;
Overrated along with the rest of the sec.
I know this has been discussed ad nauseum on here and everywhere else people talk OU football BUT Shep is not the guy to return punts. Just don’t get that. The coaches kept telling us Joe was going to do it but when? Automatic fair catch every time is such garbage.
Better than a fumble.
Most of the punts today weren’t returnable no matter who was back there. I do want Mixon primarily though.
Auburn stinks so tomorrows headline……LSU hangs on to beat tough sec opponent.
And Auburn will still be in the top 25 along with number 22 Missouri who beat UConn 9-6 today.
Yep. Auburn lost a tight defensive showdown with a defensive powerhouse in a conference known for defense. Muschamp will have them playing championship D by the end of the season!
Bottom line is we got the win. I expected TU to test them but not to this degree. However, missing personnel is an issue. After last weeks nail-biter, I expected a let down. But give TU credit, they can throw the rock. He hit some great, tight throws.
If we win every single remaining game by ONE point, I’ll be a happy guy!
84% completion percentage. Unreal.
Hell yea. Especially for as many downfield throws as he had..
listening to stoops…….not happy with jordan thomas to put it mildly for whatever he did…….
Don’t know what he did but he put his team in a very bad situation. PJ is definitely not ready for prime time.
Maybe not prime time but it’s week three, he didn’t exactly stink it up.
No he will use this to improve and he has a very bright future. I think he had some assignment busts that caused him to get pulled more so than his technique.
He wasn’t very good either. He had to be replaced by green
he is true frosh, it’ll come.
Oh i realize that, Ace. Very difficult position for a true freshman.
I thought he had good coverage alot of the time but he needs to get his head around. He’s young, he will get it.
Missed the game but ready the DB were 6-8 yards off the WR? Is this true?
No sir, not true.
What did you ready?
Ray Ray
Yes but it didn’t matter because ER just ran past them left and right whether it press or cushion. It was a very ugly day for defense.
corncobs getting smoked……….breaks my heart
If Tulsa is 25% of what Baylor is, and I think that is a fair comparison, then this defense cannot beat Baylor. We got zero pressure on QB, if Mbanasor is our 3rd corner we are in major trouble, we couldn’t get lined up when they went tempo, press or cushion didn’t matter, and there RB ran for 120+.
I am glad we won 3-0 I will take but it will be a long season if this is what our defense will look like against the air raid offenses of Big 12.
Offense and Oline looked very solid today.
yep. we’ll probly give up 2400 yds in that one
Woe is us.
Sure, if they played Baylor they way they played TU today the D would get shredded. But I think they will be playing much better by November, and we’ll see extensive improvement. Perhaps I’m overy optimistic, but I think it will be a tight game.
Id like to believe that we’ll be playing much better by November but MStoops had a whole year to work on a scheme against this offense and from the looks of it it hasnt improved much at all. Doesnt make me too optimistic.
Yeah, I know. But I will cling to my optimism like a drowning man to a chunk of styrofoam,
I understand Thomas not playing. He must have done a bonehead thing. Why wasn’t Stirker playing?
With Tulsa being in 4 and 5 wide most of the game it effectively took Striker off the feild so OU could have 6 DBs
I did not see 6 DBs on the field today. The announcers were wrong about Striker not being out there. He and Bond did alternate some, but he was there mostly.
I thought striker played at least 90% of D snaps
Striker played more than bond which should not happen anymore.
Don’t look now but #1 is in a fight to beat Northern Illinois.
Ugly defense sure, but 770 yards on offense isnt too shabby lol. Good to know the offense is headed back in the right direction.
Hopefully by next game we will balance out on both sides of the ball.
We need to ask Iowa State if we can move our game back with them to December, to create a second bye week for both teams and more importantly b4 our tough November schedule
Yes because playing Iowa state on the last week of the season worked wonders for tcu last year.
Alright folks …. what do I get for calling the final score EXACTLY? 🙂 (see yesterday’s prediction thread)
Next months subscription to TFB is FREE for you my friend. You lucky guy.
free subscription
A smack on the head, one for predicting they’d score so much on us and another for being right.
well said!
I’ll tell you what you get. You get lucky.
I’ll go with the “lucky” part. Besides, you’ve got to “call your shots.” I don’t see a single word about TWO OU fumbles and a “hail Mary” pass. 🙂
It’s a shame ESPN trying to brush over Mayfield ‘s day and OU “out pace win” vs Texas A&M performance or any other team. They are pushing T A&M hard.
Hopefully Tech can get the conference another win over the sec
Don’t look now, Neb. just tied the game with seconds left.
Did they really? wow!
IS it over?
Lost in OT though.
Oh wow. Last I looked they were down 30-10.
corncobs broke their own heart…….wide right
I thought Derek played well at guard
Yeah it looked like he and brown had some communication issues on the first drive or 2 but that got sorted out.
His pass blocking was pretty good today
Texas fumbles the kick return…Lol
negated by cal penalty
The other day right after tejas demoted their coaches, my wife and kids and I were eating at a restaurant here in Denver, and we saw a discussion of Texsa’s troubles on the tv…
My wife said, “is that texas they’re talking about?”
I said, “yes, they are in chaos right now.”
She says, “I like when texas is in chaos, it just feels good inside.”
I was like HA!! That is going on TFB! lmao!
Love that woman!
She’s definitely a keeper!!
New thread is up for evening games fyi.
Tech pretty much moving the ball at will against Arky. What a difference from last year.

TFB must be becoming a real website. You’re getting spam comments. Congratulations?
I am really looking coward to mbanasor getting more coaching and not being so raw. He has a ton of potential just needs to learn to play the ball more when the receiver gives signs it’s coming. That kid will be good if not great with more coaching. And Sanchez was a major disappointment to me today, they picked on him at times and he did not step up.
Love it when texsa loses!
What’s the over/under on Strong losing his job this year?
I’ve been reading through some of the comments but haven’t seen much discussion on the hail mary. Did anyone else notice that it wasn’t a catch? Ball was on the turf.
Just watched it again their was alot of traffic over there and they did review it so I assumed it was the right call. More than anything it was an indicator of how the secondary played today. Alot of those long pass plays was money throws to a fairly covered wide out, and couldn’t ask for better on ball coverage with the exception of P. J. getting his head turned around. But your going to have games like this and it = experience for the younger guys and gave Mike stoop a good indicator on where his d stands against an attack like Tulsa and hopefully adjustments will be made.
I don’t think they would have had enough to over turn. It looked to me that it probably hit the ground but then his leg covered that angle. And every angle I saw on TV the ball was covered.
