Oklahoma Tops Big 12 Preseason Poll

Image via NewsOK

To the surprise of almost no one (I’m assuming), Oklahoma was voted as the overwhelming favorite to win the Big 12 in the conference’s preseason poll announced Thursday morning. The Sooners received 24 out of a possible 26 first place votes, TCU received the only other two.

1. Oklahoma (24)  258 pts
2. TCU (2)  222 pts
3. Oklahoma State 202 pts
4. Baylor  156 pts
5. Texas  151 pts
6. Texas Tech  141 pts
7. West Virginia 126 pts
8. Kansas State  88 pts
9. Iowa State  59 pts
10. Kansas  27 pts

Top of the league looks pretty much how I’d expect, but were there any surprises in your minds?

That honestly looks pretty spot on to what I, and I’m assuming a lot of others, would have guessed.
Only thing I’m shocked about is seeing Kansas at the bottom of th……….. sorry I started laughing, couldn’t finish the sentence

KSU too low. BU too high. My guesses are just as good as the pollsters. lol

I haven’t looked at mine in awhile but this is what I had when Baylor crashed..

    looks right to me!

Constantly lurk but haven’t posted until now. Thank you TFB for everything y’all do! This site has become a daily read. I agree with @oun8v:disqus that KSU is probably a bit low and unfortunately Texsa will probably be a spot higher. Believe OUr guys are sitting on top in Dec.

i think the shorthorns will be 3rd and the pokes 5th. Texas has amassed so much talent, if the coaches can stay out of the way. OSU still not physical enough against the run game.

With the holes on D, all but 1 of the 2016 class gone. BU is one or two injuries away from implosion. I have to move them below TTU till I see more. The rest of the rankings work for me.

    A few thoughts:
    1) Oh, great another opportunity for us to be overconfident. Stoops teams usually do better when they are disrespected. Has often had problems running in first.
    2) UT and BU are hard to predict. Plenty of talent to be in the mix for a title, but a coaching situation that could create a total meltdown if things don’t go well early.
    3) Most surprising result: Someone didn’t vote KU last.

    Roster update posted by Jordan.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

osu may finish third, but I think it’ll be a “distant third”. Not sure why they’ve been getting so much love, other than Baylor is due an implosion and UT/TT/WVU aren’t anything special yet. Could see UT moving into the top 3-4 IF they get good play from their freshman QB. I don’t think the other two guys have the skills, but Buechele is the real deal. Just questionable how long he’ll need to adjust.

They return like 16 starters, and barry sanders jr was averaging like 6 YPC at stanford. If they get decent o-line play, their offense should be pretty stout again.

I can see OSU as upper middle pack of Big XII. Not a stretch there.

  • Thegunnfather says:

OU on top in the end. Who cares about the rest. I do tell all my poor friends that suffer from orange disorder that I hope they win all there games except bedlam.(I’m in Ponca so it is rampant here)
Usually they have talked so much trash that it is hard to root for them. But my wife is Osu grad so I must maintain the facade.(lol, had to ask her how to spell facade. Obviously she doesn’t know why)

  • KJ1123 says:

Hate to say it but I think Texsa will be 3.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I can actually see Texas going either way. I think they are certainly talented enough to be in the top 3 and if stuff clicks for Buechele th3n they will probably be good enough and win 8 to 9 games. However, I think Charlie Strong will start feeling the pressure if they were to happen to get off to a rough start. A 3-2 start for them would be outstanding, but a 1-4 start isn’t totally crazy either. If that happens does Strong start changing OC and/or Play Callers like last year and loose any cohesion the team may have. the year will say a lot about Strong and the future of the teXass football program

No proven passing game and new offense. WE struggled until after the Texas game with LR.

Things can be tough for the lead dog but it’s a good test.

  • AltoidSooner says:

Depends on if Tom Herman jumps ship with his old AD. I could see Baylor fighting for the #2 spot.

  • Daryl says:

    BOOMER

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Still worried about Baylor. Mark my words…they’ll be a threat this year.
