With the holiday, this got pushed to Tuesday but I’m not entirely sure there is anything to really talk about……
At some point I hope to not have to include these “rules” below, but for the noobs…please read, thanks!
* The comments section will be ‘closed’ until the Q&A session is about to start, at which point we will then ‘open’ the comments back up and you can start posting your questions. Once the chat has concluded, we will again ‘close’ the comments so as to avoid any aforementioned clutter after the fact.
* Due to the sheer volume you TFB’ers turn out on a daily basis, the comments aren’t exactly easy to follow once things get crowded in there. So we’d like to request that for the purposes of this ‘Town Hall’ post you limit your comments strictly to the question/s you’d like answered. In turn, we will respond with an answer. Thus if someone is coming to the comments after the fact, in theory, it would be much easier for them to follow along, rather than having to scroll thru dozens of comments trying to follow along.
* Follow up questions are fine, within reason, but obviously what we’re trying to avoid is a drawn out, back-and-forth conversation in the comments cluttering things up for everyone else.
* Again, at least for now, our plan is to delete any unnecessary comments in these ‘Town Hall’ posts to make it easier for everyone to follow the conversation and get to the information they/you want. What happened to Mbanasor and why is he being buried on the depth chart?
Tulsa game. Winning on field trust back at OU is tough. He had a good spring but a decent fall camp from what I’ve heard. Will be interested in seeing him again.
Do you expect Baker to be less conservative with his passes going forward?
I expect they will drill into his head to take what’s available.
So is a&m in a better position with Hines and marv, and has Texas really taken that big of a lead in their recruiting?
Hines Texas and OU IMO. Marvin will visit OU so we’ll see. But Texas leads.
Why can we always expect the Sooners to be unprepared?
If I knew the answer to that, I’d be the one getting $5MM+ per year 😉
Does Bob play the young guys earlier than normal this game if we get up big?
I think he plays them (or some of them as it were) earlier than normal regardless of the score.
Do you think Texas falls apart or are they the real deal
Real deal. Run game and deep ball is a bad combo for others. But their safety play is going to get them beat. And their DL aren’t ultra talented.
Looked like the real deal to me. With that D and their run game, the QB was only the thing ever preventing them from winning.
I only have one question this evening. Have any of the Brainiacs ascertained what exactly has kept Jordan Parker off the practice field? It is literally as if he vanished from all things football.

Why is Riley making the same offensive mistakes he made last year again? With respects to the run game.
Air raid guys are always going to resort to that. Although I think this past game was a bit different than others.
Do y’all think our coaches do a good job of developing the talent? Or do you think it’s just the fact they don’t get game experience
I think you can always do a better job of developing guys and it’s something they have not done as well in recent years as compared to past staffs.
They develop talent. Could it be better? Yes. But there are some 2 and 3 star guys that end up being all conference. That’s the epitome of talent development.
Will the Coaching staff rotate more of the young players going forward?
yes
You’ll see guys get a shot at CB. And probably WR with more AD. Not sure if much else beyond that.
Fully expect DB and WR to get more rotation. Maybe some more at DL and OL, as well.
Why do you think the mental toughness and the physicality that marked early Stoops teams seems to be not be in his teams in recent years?
My theory is any time you’ve been somewhere as long as Bob as been in Norman, it’s hard to maintain that same level of motivation. Especially when you’ve had the success he’s had.
It’s there. Just seems that they lay an egg every year for at least one game.
Does Wren get the start Saturday?
I’d say unlikely. I mean unless I’m mistaken, he literally didn’t play on Saturday.

Would you prefer a 4 man front?
I think 3 man fronts are great against the spread. But you have to know how to disguise and attack the way Houston does.

I like the 3 lineman with 2 OLB/stand up DE’s comingg off the edge. Allows versatility in with defense and works with how Big 12 runs their O’s.
We had success with 4 d-lineman during the second half Saturday, was this simply an adjustment or could we see this more and more?
From what I recall it was just obo getting in a 3 or 4 point stance and coming off the ball on 3rd down. Don’t remember what the alignment was.
It wasn’t so much 4 lineman as it was using Obo as a runher. Not an adjustment. Just something that is part of the scheme. Used Striker and Bond the same last year.
Thoughts on putting Mykel Jones in to see if he can make some plays?
Why not, hard for him to do any worse.

Absolutely.
Not sure. But doubt it. I don’t think they need to go crazy in switching things up. Just some light rotation.

Other top programs seem to play talented freshman early, why don’t we gamble a littl bi more to create a more competitive environment? Is this simply a coaching philosophy, or is our talent that I’ll prepared?
To be fair they tried with Mbanasor and Cobb. But it’s more about understanding young guys make mistakes before they make plays. Minka Fitzpatrick at Alabama struggled early last year but eventually got it. Same with Hill and Davis at Texas.

K mentioned how Beal came in the game and instantly made a great play. It seems like there have been other players in recent years that every time they are on the field that just seem to make plays and yet they are consistent players or starters. Do you all have any insight into why this is?
The coaches trust someone else more. There is probably some mistake they make in practice which causes coaches not to trust them.
Sorry but a follow up but as a coach don’t you have to see the production in a game and go with a guy as long as they are working hard in practice and doing what is asked can’t a guy screw up in practice but show out on Saturdays?
How surprised were you to see Quick back returning the punt late in the Houston game? Is he the guy moving forward, or just a one time thing?
I think they may work him in, Bob said as much at his presser. But he was a guy they’d considered in the spring/summer.
Do you guys think OU will have that ” Edge ” to them since we’re underdogs for Ohio St now?
I like the chances of that. For whatever inexplicable reason, Stoops teams seem to play much better as the “underdog”
I think they’ll play better. But they’ll need to play a lot better because Ohio State will be a lot better.

Have any rumors came out about the RB’s being pissed at LR and his horrible play calling. I mean when we lost to texsa we hardly ran the ball and this weekend the same issue. Its got to be frustrating after a while even though its 2 games.
None that I’ve seen, but I also wouldn’t really expect anything like that after the first game of the season.

I don’t know that it’s recruiting so much as coaching, in terms of preparing them to play from Day 1.
I sure seem to witness a lot of teams with young talent playing at a high level from the get go on so many other teams.

You have to be assignment sound but you have to have patience with “talent”. It’s a fine line you walk IMO and OU errs on the conservative side.

No first hand knowledge per se, but I can all but guarantee you they are determined.
After Your first glimpse at the 2016 Sooners, do you still see a chance they beat Ohio State?
Yes. I will go with same mindset that I went with after Texas game. See the flaws. Fix the flaws. Le the chips fall where they may. OU is not out of it yet.
I haven’t watched Ohio State just yet but I think OU will be a much better team that day.

Fair to say the Gabe and Andrew hype on the ut side along with the rest of the texsa fans is kind of too soon? Brian Kelly helped ut out by not keeping Kizer in all 1st half plus ND was on a roll once Kizer came back in the 2nd half. Seems like ut and its fans are getting too excited like always lol
they jumped to #11 in the AP Poll today. fair to say gabe & andrew aren’t the only ones over-hyping Texas right now. but they did look good, as much as it pains me to admit.

What happened to Mike Stoops aggressiveness on third and long that used to be successful during his first tour at OU?
Think a lot of that was a enables influence on him. V was co-coordinator then.
Hasn’t been there for several years now. Both he and Venables have long been a fan of rushing 3, dropping 8 on long third downs. I’ve always hated it.

I have long believed in the Baylor offense and Texas defense is aggressive which is always a problem for OU
Texas. Freaking Briles offense is always so hard to prepare for. That’s just a fact. Texas freakish athletes in comparison to Baylor, too.

After this weekend, I’m starting to lean towards Texas. But the work OU has done so far w/ this 2017 class still probably warrants giving them the edge (for now).

He was trying to make big plays instead take what was there. I think last game remedied that.

Why all the clamor about WR seems to me their are good enough playmakers to win all the games remaining but everyone – primarily on the Animal can’t seem to stop harping on it. IMO Mixon and Perine should be in the game together 100% of the time
People see what they want to see, plus very few of us have the benefit of the All 22 angle

I know this may be a longshot but do you think Lincoln Riley will use some spread formations going forward this season? It seems like the spread helps with power run game.
