Josh Doctson Officially OUT For OU game, Trevone Boykin A ‘Maybe’

Image via Dallas News

If you haven’t already heard following TCU’s Wednesday practice HC Gary Patterson provided the latest injury updates on his star players, QB Trevone Boykin & WR Josh Doctson.

With Doctson now officially out and — assuming I’m am reading that second tweet right — Boykin reportedly a potential game-time decision, the narrative on social media predictably turned to just how much both being out will hurt OU — again, assuming the Sooners were to win Saturday night — in the eyes of the CFP committee.

    Beat TCU BOOMER

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

If people are right in saying that if we win out we will need someone else to lose, it probably won’t affect us that much. Now if ok state loses this weekend it could have a bigger impact.

  • John Garner says:

I hope Boykin plays. Beating the Frogs then passes the “eye test” and SOS criteria.

  • ellisbr says:

feel bad for the Doctson kid. Hope he gets back to 100% and has a successful NFL career, he seems like a genuinely good guy.

  • gtq says:

Can we just get back to trying to win the football game? Eye tests and SOS are discussions for early December. If we play like we played against Baylor I am going to enjoy watching the game and right now that is all that matters to me.

Don’t worry about tomorrow, until you have finished enjoying today!
    BOOMER

  • SoonerinLondon says:

The Committee has already dropped TCU to 18, so I don’t see where Boykin playing or not will have any measurable impact on the OU ranking.

  • Malicong says:

I think we all need to stop worrying about style points and the CFP. Just win out, win the Big XII, and let the chips fall where they may.

    • OUn8v says:

I could not agree more. Tired of the CFP committee. The thought should always be to just win OUr games and let the chips fall where they may. It won’t be the first time that Oklahoma got the shaft in national rankings. I’m excited for Saturday’s game!

      • AdamsHall says:

I also agree. We need to focus on winning. Everything else will sort itself out. I will say the CFP reasoning is making me long for the days of BCS computer model rankings. At least that setup was more difficult to manipulate, i.e., required multiple coaches and or AP writers to screw you instead of a few folks on a star chamber.

Word, let’s just concern ourselves with winning out. W’s are what matter.

  • Birddawg says:

If we beat TCU, the playoff committee is going to drop them out of the top 25 so it doesn’t count as a “good” win. Regardless, we need boykin to play. OSU to beat Baylor.

  • Tinycop says:

It doesn’t matter who in the Big12 wins or loses, the CFP jokers are gonna leave the Big12 out.

    IMO

  • RonBurgundy says:

I just can’t see Tom Osborne giving OU any slack.

  • Wilson says:

Just hope the team is not as over confident as some of the fanbase..lol..just win them all..lose..the rest become academic.

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

Don’t matter. If it’s purple, hit it. If it’s still standing, hit it again. If your name is Samaje, hit anything purple and then leave cleat marks as you run over the top of it. It’s not complicated.

  • SamSooner says:

Not that I care what the committee does, but I think it’s important to see what happens with Bama this weekend. If they move up following their game against Hoover High School, that will continue erode the committee’s argument regarding SOS.

  • SamSooner says:

Control what you can control. This is fuel for our boys. They will be motivated.

  • sooner4ever says:

TCU will be like an injured animal. Don’t poke it with a stick, or it will bite. Hard. Treat them just like Baylor.

  • hOUligan says:

You always want the best shot from every team, especially under these circumstances with the CP Selection Cabal scrutinizing you. Unfortunately for OU, think Baylor w/o their starter and this, any OU victory is going to be devalued. This plays right into their hands when looking for any and every excuse to keep the B12 out.

    • ccmosaic says:

Just my opinion here: But I really am not worried about the CFP at this point. We have not won an outright Big 12 title in a while. I am hoping the OU boys are more focused on that goal right now, than they are for the cfp.
If we win the Big 12 and get passed over by the CFP then I hope Boren tells Texas and the rest bye. But first win the big 12.

      • hOUligan says:

I agree that OU can only win. Winning the B12 is a great accomplishment. Always has been, always will be. I’m just one of those guys that really puts a high value on integrity and fairness. And I hate seeing blatant displays by any entity or person showing neither, like this so-called CFP.

  • Big Higg says:

That’s a shame. I wanted to see JT shut him down

  • ccmosaic says:

I really hope OU players are not concerned with the playoff crap right now. They currently are in a Big 12 playoff and each win from here on out puts them in position to take back the Big 12 conference.
My hope is with our without the TCU star players this OU team will come out focused and ready to a put a hurting on the toads.

  • Davey says:

I seriously doubt that most of the voters watch all of the games. They will see highlights and see the final score. On the other hand, we could lose this game. The thing I like is that OU is looking scrappy right now. Being physical is huge from here on out. For some reason we play best when we have 5 personal foul penalties. I like the attitude and the fight in em. Mayfield brings it out of our guys in a big way.

  • PLAW0720 says:

I remember an OB where UA had 6 starters suspended. Switz and team started the MNC championship a little early and it cost us the game. 31-6 as I recall. Bummer.
