OU Football Scholarship Breakdown

I could be wrong, but I feel like I have seen a request or two (or several) for something similar to what you see below. So I quickly put this chart below together for those who might be interested. Seeing it on paper, so to speak, I felt kind of helps put things into perspective a little better.

Both from a purely numbers standpoint, where you can see OU would potentially have several scholarships still available from their allotted 85, and in terms of the team’s overall depth (or lack there of in some respects).

I think everyone is there that should be, I tried to take into account those who have already transferred and/or are coming back, but if you see any errors or omissions, please just let me know and I’ll make the necessary change/s. Hopefully some of you will find this helpful.

Is it just me or did I just get really excited about the freshman and sophomore columns!?!? Maybe not deep but man those columns seem loaded to me.

Please move Dalton wood to ILB!!!!!!

    • dallassooner says:

They are loaded on the F/Soph. But remember most of the F haven’t arrived on campus. You are going to lose your transfers usually after Soph year when they realize playing time isn’t coming. it always thins out.

    • jonnyBgood says:

Dalton Wood’s highlight reel is some kind of fun to watch. He is going to be a good player for us and it will be interesting to see what side of the ball/which position he ends up at.

  • dallassooner says:

Did Marquise Overton get all his academics straightened out? Is he confirmed to be here in the fall?

    • Jordan Esco says:

That appears to be the case, yes. He shows up in the OU student database and tweeted pics yesterday indicating he was moving in to the dorms.

  • Bob Edwards says:

    Good stuff.

  • lovethemsooners says:

    Great break down. Thanks Jordan.

247 has been reporting that Dalton Wood may be rethinking whether or not he wants to play football anymore. Anyone else have any info on this? True? I sure hope not.

    • hOUligan says:

As excited as he was about the OU offer and to pass on a chance to earn a degree using some pretty good God-given athletic talent….would be difficult to understand. Sure hope there is no truth to the rumor.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Ugh that OL gap is kinda scarey(4 total Soph and JR)

  • Boom says:

    Man, we’re stacked at TE. : )

  • JR says:

Nick Hodgson is on ship for his senior year. What about Jack Steed? I have always thought he was on ship as well.

    • Sooner 76 says:

I wouldn’t be surprised to find out that Nick had a schollie for this year; in fact it’s makes perfect sense; they have one to give him and he’s given good service to the team, like Gastelum last year. I had read that Steed was recruited as a grayshirt. However, the Spring 2014 OU Guide had Steed listed as a walkon. So there you have it.

  • Jed says:

Is there any way to get word on who’s walking on? invited or just doing it? There’s the Heritage Hall QB, I think. Who else?

  • Slim Sooner says:

Thanks, Jordan. This chart is great, very helpful. As for the pay sites that disparage TFB, I’m sure they’re jealous of the accuracy of info and integrity here at no cost when they have to charge a fee for their crap. I never go anywhere else but here. No need to.

  • Randy says:

Dalton Rodriguez at LB I thought, is he still on the team ?

  • WilliamJack says:

Thanks Jordon! Great info as always!

  • hOUligan says:

Nicely done, Jordon, and greatly appreciated. A few posters have done it on their own. It’s nice to have it in front of you but scary to see only LB and OG has any SR experience to speak of. A very young team. If OU can bust out this season, maybe 10 wins, and bring in a good recruiting class, we might finally get the depth necessary to get back to being a true top 10 team caliber team. But this recruiting class is still going to be a small one…only Sanchez that might leave for the nfl early and 11 SRs and we’re down 6 scholarships. 18-19 maybe.

    • PLaw0720 says:

Agree – nice job, but would like to see RS Fr broke out from true Fr. Well done, nevertheless

  • Boom says:

Hope we can make it to 81 with Lampkin & Austin Roberts who is the DE from NEO

    • hOUligan says:

Roberts and Maurice Chandler, NEO CB. Both have offers but are taking their time. All 3 could really help, Chandler immediately.

  • hOUligan says:

Couple of others, thought they were scholarship but maybe not…Conner Knight and Joe Palange?

  • rainydaze114 says:

I don’t know about the rest of you, but the fact that there’s only 11 seniors on this team is giving me some optimism about the next few years.

  • Randy says:

Perfect year to load up on JC’s to help make the run for next year.. !!

  • Jeff says:

Thought Brooks was a 6th year Sr

  • Jason says:

Who hasn’t made it to campus, that the pay sites are talking about?

    • Indy_sooner says:

The two linebackers for one (two?). Deberry doesn’t graduate till end of June.

      • Jed says:

Random question: have schools around here always had such an ‘early’ academic year?
I went to school overseas in ‘American’ schools and we graduated the first week in June and started first days of September.

      • Jason says:

Ah makes sense, typical trying to make a story out of nothing more than just the fact the kid isn’t done with H.S. yet. Thanks!

      • Sooner 76 says:

It’s not the end of June; it’s two weeks or so. I read that his dad posted that he will be in Norman in 13 days. Our county has a week and a half of school left. He may have two weeks. Va doesn’t start until after Labor Day.

    • Jeremy Phillips says:

Dalton Wood… May not play football.. I’ve read girl problems &/or just doesn’t want to play anymore but OU will wait out the summer to see if he changes his mind..

      • Sooner Ray says:

Someone mentioned he has a young child to take care of.

        • Jeremy Phillips says:

Yep & James Hale has said that he’s heard Dalton doesn’t want to play.. Wants to go to work for his dad… So, there are a few different stories at least..

  • MrBigsby says:

Ijalana is really just a Sophomore?

  • Mike Reed says:

Since there’s not an Open Post I’ll put this here..ESPN..”Why Bob Stoops Stayed at Oklahoma”

    http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/12988882/bob-stoops-rare-stability-oklahoma-sooners

  • Sooner Ray says:

Thanks Jordan, love seeing this in printed form. Maybe throw a copy of it into TOP where it could be a working spreadsheet updated as needed and easily accessible for anyone to view. Just an idea.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Jordan, this breakdown makes me think of the post on retention that TFB had a couple of weeks back. Some folks were upset about it, but this just shows how it can be a bit of concern.

  • Thomas Lenard says:

With this postion chart, are we running two DT and one DE on the DL with a LB?

    • Sooner 76 says:

I just think that the way Jordan has it makes the most sense, but it can be confusing either way. In the 4-25, the weakside standup DE is really a LBer on the LOS. In this alignment, you also have a SDE, a 3-technique DT, and a NT. When going to the 3-4, there is a LBer on other side of the LOS, and the 3-tech becomes a DE.

Jordan kicking butt to get us our OU fix today.

Some solid defensive depth. I like the potential in the freshman column.
