Despite multiple reports to the contrary, 2016 WR Velus Jones gave Oklahoma their second ‘boom’ of the day tweeting his commitment to the Sooners Friday evening.

Less than 24 hours after said reports that had Jones expected to reaffirm his commitment to USC, the OU coaches obviously gave him the sales pitch he needed to hear. Credit to them for doing so because Jones fills a big need and will come in this fall with an immediate chance to see the field.

Was Ryan Parker another WR commit? If so, where did he end up committing and also how do you feel he compares to Velus?
Yes Ryan Parker was a WR commit. Not really sure what is up with him. There are some rumors suggesting a violation of team rules or something to that effect. He could still sign with OU, but not really sure what to expect there. Parker is a JUCO guy, so he would have some extra experience that Jones has yet see. Jones I believe is much faster runs like a 4.3 something, but is much shorter than Parker. Many believe Jones will be a star.
Parker is a juco that isn’t presently qualified……not a decommit.

I think Parker can be very good but jones is probably a better fit. Parker may still sign I just don’t know if he will qualify. And unless the “unknown” WR is Cleveland or another receiver with huge upside then I can’t see us not taking Parker if he qualified. Rivals likes to jump the gun on these situations.

The Sooner mothership crashed landed in Ohio a few years ago, and now many Sooners populate the area, unable to get back to the promised land, although it beckons them all, especially in the fall.

It took me one hour to get out of that deck. I had a 4 hour drive but we decided to stop in Columbus, get a room for the night.

I have decided to make an decision I will on NSD take the day of and the day after off, I will watch with glee as we get those LOI and we sign our class then I will have a shot for ever recruit we landed and drink the stress of this recruiting cycle away lol. This has been more stressful than last years!
I’ve done that before and it makes for a really, really, really long day. I looked forward to it and found it to be very anticlimactic. From then on, I just went about my day, and caught up with everything on Sooner Sports and FoxOk after the fact. I was much happier.
I am usually am off on Tuesday and Wednesday’s anyway and the other weeks it’s Sunday and Monday and that week happens to be my Tuesday-Wednesday stretch lol, so I will do laundry and and house work and keep up with it!

I am thinking if he is thinking like he should be thinking is that Texas is after a lot of DT’s in this class and the fact that they are trying to flip Elliott may be all he needs to say na I am good as we have no DT’s in this class. Texas fans seem good about Elliott and Southall and a few other kids I think Taylor and one other from the boot state that they are high on and seem to be in a good spot for all 4. So Daniels is only one we are recruiting outside of the Guirdy kid but 1 is a lot more appealing than 4 others. .

Arkansas is the team to beat. You just have to dig really hard for the information to make sense. You don’t need money, just a bunch of Google. I put us at 2nd, still in front of Texas.
In a nutshell, he is from Little Rock. Arkansas offered Monday morning the 18th, the weekend after he visits Texas (the 15th)…he put out a really excited tweet around 10am about “finally getting the offer from his home state” OU, ARK, Ole Miss do home visit that day. Daniels officially decommits on that day.
Arkansas has been off the radar because he has family there and visits on his own. Norman is a good central location for the part of the Little Rock family and the Euless family to meet in the middle for games!

I would say as high as 10th depending on the service and no lower then 15th to 16th again depending on the service!
You may be right. From what I’ve heard rivals only rates your top 20 prospects. If we get to 23 and add all 4 stars (Kelly is a 5 and maybe a 3 like southall, avg 4) then we would have a 3.75 star average for our top 20 recruits. Right now that would be 4th but teams right below that average are likely to close strong. So 7 or 8 would be absolute best case scenario and may have to include a guy like Cleveland or another surprise top 100 guy.
And I would circle Brandon Bowen as that surprise top 100. I don’t know if we can make the flip but maybe

Not really but some WR committed to another school is drawing huge interest from ou and he’s thinking about a visit according to super K. I would have to think he’s committed to a school in Texas where K has a lot of those contacts. I don’t think it’s Cleveland or duvernay.
Bowen would be a nice flip as would Tyrie Cleveland. You know the one thing recruits do is talk to each other and they could all be like you know we could make this a very special class and we could with the last 2 classes and the upcoming class build a real nice Dynasty at OU. It’s almost there we just missing a few pieces but these kids could be those pieces and the class for next year is looking strong already.

The PR game with this staff seams to be about trust along with risk/reward. As soon as one of these players step up and show the skill along with consistency, it should be back to business as usual.

Pernell is probably going to Nebraska. Parker is apparently a grade risk and may not qualify. Ou will probably hold off on letting him sign until he qualifies.
That is what I have been reading. If he does complete the work it will depend on how late into the summer he gets to OU. I am sure if there is no scholarship for him, then OU will have all types of financial aid programs lined up for him to get him by that semester.

We still have a shot at T. Moore, J. Williams, B. Guirdy, and my favorite C. Kelly. Can OU take 7 more or does anyone know?
If we take more than 20 in this class then they know of players leaving that haven’t announced.
I read somewhere a DB from last year’s class in the subject of transfer rumors. Was kinda hoping Dalmer was leaving (I know that sounds bad) just so OU could have an extra scholly.
Those 3 that missed the bowl game could have issues qualifying, that will be asked of stoops on NSD if we sign 20* kids. It was campbell, McKinney and brooks.
Personally there are probably 4 or so upper classmen on scholarship that will not play meaningful snaps for us and I would rather see them seek opportunities elsewhere. Daimler, Ross, grant and steed. I don’t know why we have 2 punters on scholarship and a long snapper. Special teams are important but with punt safe and no kickoff returns at all, we should only be using 1 scholarship for our “specialists” and that includes returners at this point.

Every season there is great concern about how desperate the situation is at a given position, usually accompanied by a lot of teeth gnashing over the “big one’s” that got away. It’s usually just another confirmation of the impending apocalypse. And, yet, many of those crucial players who got away turn out to have major issues at other schools, or while they may see playing time elsewhere, just don’t set the world on fire. Anyone remember how “missing out” on Justin Manning was a clear sign of the end of the world and that certain coaches were clearly pathetic at recruiting if they couldn’t close on him?
It often seems to be the case that the area that appears to be of most concern, turns out to fare pretty well in subsequent seasons. Recruiting at OU is clearly a team sport, which it seems to me is probably the best way to do it. Obviously it’s not always perfect, and OU has it’s share of busts as well. It’s always going to be a 20/20 hindsight business, but imho the suggestions that this current staff is underachieving in the recruiting department, be it at wr or linebacker or any given position, might be premature. 🙂

I always tell myself when a player commits one place then that creates a domino affect and opportunities arise elsewhere..kinda like the stock market. This is the time in the recruiting process when that domino action happens a lot quicker as there are still a lot of commits out there that are holding a spot and waiting to see who commits where and then what place offers them the best chance to play early.
This is one commitment I’m extremely excited about.
I can see this kid playing next season. He does all the things OU asks of their WRs , except I did not see any plays of him blocking. The acceleration when he got the edge on the fly sweep at 2:58 mark of the film was rather impressive. Very happy, happy happy Ou got this guy!

I know these guys are barley men at this point so a lot of them don’t know how to handle this sort of thing, but these kids need to really think about not doing this to colleges as it does impact scheduling of coaches, cost of traveling and someone’s time. This kid has committed to 4 or 5 different schools in 2 years. Someone needs to get in his ear and tell him to pick something. Normally kids that do this end not either going to college or washing out fast because of their indecision making. They quit, they don’t quit, they fight for a few weeks then are an off the field issue, then they just quit. If he is this wishey washy, we don’t need him.
I see it all the time in adults too. Full on panic & regret when making the biggest decisions.
It’s ability to make decisions more than age. Although young age can feel more scary.

The whole recruiting process has always been a circus and it’s not getting any better. The NCAA should take a look at reforms. The whole commitment thing is a joke – other schools continue recruiting the prospect, the prospect ties up a scholly, and there are no consequences for reneging on the commitment by the school or the prospect. It’s like asking a chick to prom and she says yes. Then, a week before the big dance she tells you she has another date after you shelled out the cash for the tickets while she is still going to wear the same dress and shoes. Smh at some of these situations.

On one hand, it seems like a ‘teachable moment’ for parents and coaches. Pull the kids aside and tell them what it means to commit and as a parent, you will not allow it until the kid is CERTAIN of his COMMITMENT. And coaches could reiterate this. BUT THEN I read bs about schools, maybe even OU, taking a kids commitment and later asking/forcing them to look elsewhere, as I am hearing OU might be doing with a couple. How can you place blame on the kids when those who are their examples do no better? Pretty much through now. Thanks for the space. Go on about your business.
