Open Post | Tuesday, Aug. 11th (UPDATE 10:13 am)

Tramonda Moore: I caught up with 2016 OT Tramonda Moore (Oklahoma City, OK) last night, whose recruitment has blown up this summer picking up offers from OU, OSU, Alabama, Georgia, TCU and Arizona State. Following a visit to Ok State this past weekend, Moore let me know he is planning to be in Norman this coming weekend.

I spoke to a friend of mine who was working the Alabama camp when Moore was in attendance and he said, without any equivocation, Moore is one of the best offensive linemen in the country in terms of his upside. He said, “the kid has NFL written all over him.” – (Super K)

Shurod Thompson: 2016 safety Shurod Thompson (Brentwood, CA) planned on taking an official visit out to Oklahoma this fall along with his friend, 2016 CB Jordan Parker (Pittsburg, CA). However, last night Thompson tweeted out the following:

This may come as a surprise to some since, as we’ve mentioned, Thompson had made it known OU was his top school. However something else we’ve also recently mentioned is that with OU’s new found recruiting momentum, the reality of the number of spots remaining in this 2016 class is becoming a factor. And the reality is there aren’t going to be enough spots to take everyone they normally might.

Last week we had been told that OU had a spot available for Thompson, but not for Parker. And that was prior to Parrish Cobb committing, so you can imagine how tight the numbers are now.

I spoke with Thompson this morning, who said OU has let him know their final DB spot (or two) in this 2016 class is going to be held for a cornerback. With the Sooners bringing in three safeties last year (and Antoine Stephens could end still up as a nickel or safety) and now also having Chanse Sylvie in the fold, the real priority is bringing in quality cornerback prospects.

Kerry Cooks called his own shot a few weeks ago when he tweeted out “reserve your spot.” The man wasn’t bluffing.

One thing worth noting, Cooks is the kind of guy who has certain prospects he likes and, stars be damned, he’s going after them. Sylvie, Cobb and Maurice Chandler were all guys he wanted early, even though he had a real shot at some other prospects, many of whom the recruiting services considered to be higher rated prospects. But the three Cooks got were the three he wanted.

Again, it seems there is one, maybe two, spots left and those are being held for cornerbacks. – (Super K)

Amani Bledsoe: As most of you know by now, 2016 defensive lineman Amani Bledsoe (Lawrence, KS) took an unofficial visit to OU yesterday. Although I haven’t yet had the chance to speak with Bledsoe, I did talk to a couple of sources about how his visit went.

It sounds like the staff really feels good about where they stand with Bledsoe and that the trip overall went about as well as it possibly could have gone. Which is a drastic change from where things stood earlier this summer when we heard Bledsoe had essentially lost interest in the Sooners after the departure of Jerry Montgomery. Again, Diron Reynolds is beginning to assert himself as a recruiter and, at this point, I’d be surprised if he doesn’t land at least one big fish in this class. – (Brandon)

Mecole Hardman Jr: 2016 ATH Mecole Hardman (Elberty County, GA) has an offer from just about everyone in the country. And even though the Sooners were a little late to the party not extending an offer until this past April, Kerry Cooks has been recruiting Hardman all along. Yesterday his efforts were rewarded when OU was included in Hardman’s Top 10 schools.

I caught up with Hardman shortly after he released said Top 10, he was adamant that OU has a high probability of getting one of his five official visits this fall. Hardman said he’s planning to release a full list of official visits later this month.

Georgia and Tennessee have been rumored to be the leaders, and I fully expect him to stay in the SEC. That said, there is certainly no denying the recruiting hot streak OU is currently on and that strange things can happen if you’re able to get a kid on campus. Time will tell on this one. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (10:13 am): Basketball related for those who may not know the OK Preps name.

    Let’s get Bledsoe.

    • hOUligan says:

Yeah. He’s a guy we’ve been hearing about for over a year and is at the top of OUr board. It’s important to get those guys.

  • Mr. Jones says:

Are there any corners on their radar other than Eboh and Hardman?

  • Nate Broadus says:

I loved that response from Kerry Cooks — “Reserve your spot.”

That seems like a mantra. He recruits like a beast, and if you wait too long, he’ll fill up those spots with others.

    • BoomerDave says:

Here’s to Cooks filling his class quickly and then turning his recruiting skills in the direction of our top LB and DL prospects. #TeamEffort#OUDNA

    • SoonerfanTU says:

As long as he can get results, I like that he goes after the kids he wants, and doesn’t pay much attention to recruiting rankings or location. Now we just need to see results, which I think we’ll get.

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

I so agree with this statement, and believe this is what OU has been missing. There needs to be some urgency with these young men, in that they know if they wait too long OU is going to take someone else. Don’t get me wrong, I want them to feel comfortable with their decision and want them to REALLY want to play here. But, it seems like many of them know that they will have a spot waiting on them at OU, and subsequently draw the process out as long as possible. I’m all for “Reserve your spot,” and we’ll take our players and move on.

      • Bob Edwards says:

The key to this is having assistants that develop talent. If you can develop talent well you don’t have to have the absolute best guy, you can get one of several good players and develop them well. It means you can take Mr Goodenough and turn him into a player.

        • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Well, I agree to the extent that having assistants that can develop talent is very important, and I agree that you don’t necessarily have to have the best guy in every instance. However, I think it’s critical to any top tier team to have the ability to get some of the best players at their positions to have the best shot at staying at the top of the proverbial mountain. But I also agree that recruiting rankings are not the only indicator of future success, and I have faith in who the coaches are picking up. Long story short, a team needs the ability to pick up the AD’s, Demarco Murray’s, Joe Mixon’s, Tommie Harrises, Gerald McCoy’s, etc. at times. Do they need to get the top player at every position? No, but having the coaches who can close on some of these guys can make or break a program.

          • hOUligan says:

Most definitely “having assistants that can develop talent”, as we saw how it worked with Norvell; brought in guys with ‘stars’ but they did not develop. But I do like what K said about Cooks knows who he wants and goes after them, regardless of ‘stars’. You want the ‘best guys’ that fit what you’re doing and your program.

          • Bob Edwards says:

My point is that there are a lot more players you can recruit when you can develop talent. Norvell had to get five star guys because they didn’t seem to get any better once they got here. But there are a lot of three star guys out there with plenty of talent that haven’t had good coaching in high school. They give you a bigger pool to recruit from, if you know you can develop them. It lets you offer a larger number and take the first one that commits.

          • SavageSoonerEsq says:

Oh definitely, I certainly agree with that.

          • EasTex says:

A kid from my home town was an adequate (if unspectacular) DB in high school. He took his best offer, Stephen F. Austin. He played in the NFL for seven years on three different Super Bowl teams.
Long story short, young men develop at different rates and different ways. If coaches like Cooks can see what the kid is and what he can be if he is willing to listen and put in the work, then those are the coaches that can get the job done.

    • Stephen Dale says:

we’ll soon be able to evaluate Cook’s evaluation skills…………..

  • cdzendolet says:

If Tramonda Moore has NFL written all over him, there isn’t anywhere better for him to be than OL U with Coach BedenBOOM

  • Kevin says:

    #reserveyourspot #oudna

  • SoonerGray says:

I’m bummed about Shurod, but I know it’s a good thing. I bet Brandon Burton and Brandon Jones could still commit but maybe not? IDK Either way, it’s crazy that we’re turning down 4 star recruits for official visits. Could come back to haunt us if we have a defection or two….

    • cdzendolet says:

Better to turn them down and keep them apprised of the situation instead of over-signing and reneging on your promises to the kids when the better prospects come along afterwards

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

The kid from Cali Burton is a USC lock.

  • Boom says:

Diron, the stealth recruiter. I like it and I think a lot of other recruits like Bledsoe who were turned off get turned on again.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Is Thompson one of the Cali 3 we were after? Not sure who makes up that group.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

A little off topic, but would OU moving to the SEC, let’s assume alone (without any other schools going to the SEC), help or hurt our recruiting?

I’d think it might hurt us a bit in Texas. Might hurt us a bit out West. But we’d definitely have a better “in” on the kids from SEC states.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Not sure why it would hurt us in Texas. It didn’t seem to hurt A&M’s recruiting. Out West I don’t think it matters. The conference is already far enough away that the extra distance dosen’t make that big a difference, kid still has to get on a plane.

    • Malicong says:

I honestly don’t see it changing a whole lot. It is not like OU has had terrible recruiting, just not top 5 recruiting. It may give a little bump, but it won’t be earth shattering.

    • Boom says:

If we went to the SEC it would be larger payouts, better recruiting, & definitely a lot more bias coverage. Face it, we’re not a fan of ESPN because of the SEC. If we were in the SEC, ESPN would love & promote us. Also, driving to these games would be to bad.
Getting away from UT would be good for us because I think they just want to be independent. Unless there are some major changes at UT, I see them as cancer who will destroy another conference.

      • I am pretty sure a few years ago Stoops indicated he had no desire for OU to be in the SEC. If my memory is good, it had a lot to do with recruiting issues in the SEC and some to do with academics. I think a great fit for OU would be the Pac 12 if it comes to it. After that, I think they would look to the Big 10 before the SEC. Pac 12 would not hurt our Texas recruiting (as Arizona, AZ State, UCLA, Oregon and Stanford already heavily recruit Texas) and it would help our recruiting in California. How about building a long-term rival in USC? That would be some great football. And, how about making trips to CA, Oregon, Washington, Arizona instead of Miss, MO, AL, LA. If I was a recruit, I would much prefer the west coast.

    • SoonerMGB56 says:

Not that it will ever happen, but…..

Look what the SEC did for A&M. That should answer your question.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Are they getting a good feeling about Moore as far as our chances?

    • BigJoeBrown says:

That would be a huge pick up. Geting the top guy’s in your state is a priority. It’s one thing if they don’t commit early and thier spot get’s taken up, but it’s another thing when they aren’t even interested in your program. It’s nice to hear that Moore is looking at the Sooners.

      • SoonerMGB56 says:

Remember who Moore’s coach is, and who his cousin is (think it’s a cousin). Rashaun Woods is his coach and Tracey Moore his cousin.

His recruitment will be an uphill battle all the way. Not to say we can’t win. And Coach B usually gets his guys, but…it will be tough.

  • Sooner 76 says:

Here’s how I see 2016 with the DBs:

    LCB
    Zack Sanchez 15 (Sr)
    Maurice Chandler x (Jr)
    Stanvon Taylor 6 (Sr)
    Parrish Cox xx (Fr)

    SS
    Ahmad Thomas 13 (Sr)
    Kahil Houghton 8 (Soph)
    Chanse Sylvie xx (Fr)

    FS
    Hatari Byrd 4 (Sr)
    Prentice McKinney 24 (Soph)
    Will Sunderland 21 (Soph)

    RCB
    PJ Mbanasor 2 (Soph)
    Jordan Thomas 7 (Jr)
    Dakota Austin 27 (Sr)
    Marcus Green 14 (Soph)

    NB
    Steven Parker 10 (Jr)
    Will Johnson 12 (Jr)
    Antoine Stephens 5 (RS Fr)

    • Boom says:

You think Sanchez will stay another year? This will be his last year IMO.

      • Troyce Lewis says:

        He’s already announced it

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

He needs to practice his tackling a bit longer anyways

          • Boom says:

NFL cares more about covering a receiver, not that he can be the best tackling CB in the league.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

Oh the NFL all the sudden doesn’t care if a DB can tackle? Lol. He better knock down or intercept every ball thrown his way though.

          • Boom says:

Lane, my point is, would you like to have a better cover player or tackler. NFL will take the cover player every time. He can tackle but not like a LB.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m not taking any defensive football player that is a poor tackler.

          • boomersooner says:

You don’t have a job in the industry, so moot point

          • Boom says:

It’s like saying, he bats 350 but he’s just ok as an outfielder. OK, let him hit 350 for us and put him in right. We can work on that.

          • boomersooner says:

Exactly. If you have a kid that’s awesome at something but short on something else, you know that coming in so buyer beware. If a kid hits .350 and stinks on d he will be in the hall

          • Boom says:

My point, If an NFL GM asks his coach who says, this guy is one of the best cover guys in college. How’s his tackling, ok. Sign him.
I don’t remember Dion being very good at tackling. I’m not comparing Dion to Sanchez either.

          • boomersooner says:

            We are in agreement

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well considering that boom asked would I like to have a better cover corner or tackler we are assuming that it would be my choice.

          • Sooner 76 says:

Speaking of LOL, do you recall seeing Deon Sanders when a pulling guard came his way?

        • JB says:

Yeah, he does not have NFL speed. I’d be shocked if he were drafted given the nfl’s premium on speedy skill position players

      • KJ1123 says:

I think it depends on the year he has. If he gets projected in the first 3 rounds legitimately he’ll leave. Also has to look at the CB class next year. If its loaded he may stay and take his chances in 2017. Things always change when $ is invloved.

        • Stephen Dale says:

everything for Sanchez may hinge on whether or not he thinks he would a starter in 2016 or riding the pines behind a precocious, younger, CB.

          • OUWade says:

are you saying that you think it’s possible for Sanchez to start 3 years, and then be worried that he’d be passed over, his senior year, by one of the younger guys? Personally, I think Sanchez should stay, and unless he gets faster or is told by an organization that they think he could play without better speed, he won’t have a long NFL career. I love the guy, and I really hope that he makes it at the next level and has been a great college corner, but I don’t see the makings of an NFL type CB.

          • DCinAZ says:

He’s got skills that are transferrable to the next level. His weaknesses are his size and his speed. His strengths are that he has elite body positioning, even against larger WRs, elite ball handling skills, and he creates turnovers. NFL always needs CBs, and those skills will be enough for somebody to take a chance on him.

          • rphokc says:

for those thinking about leaving early, I think they let the player get some straight feedback from nfl guys on how they stack up……would think that would be the determining factor

      • Austin says:

I think I remember a tweet or an Instagram post that he had at the end of last year saying this upcoming year would be his last. I may be wrong but I think I remember him saying something like that.

        • Zack says:

He said something about coming back for one more year but he didn’t necessarily say it would be his last. What I took from his comment was that he wasn’t leaving for the 2015 draft.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Don’t know one way or another. You may be correct, but I will keep him on my depth chart until I hear otherwise.

    • Fear The Magic says:

I think either Byrd or Thomas ( or possibly but not likely both ) will be surpassed by Houghton and or McKinney by 2016.

      • Mr. Jones says:

I agree. Neither have impressed me enough at this point to make me feel otherwise.

        • Zack says:

I think we will all have a different feeling about Byrd or Thomas. Maybe both but I bet one of them steps up.

          • Fear The Magic says:

I agree that both will do their best to step it up but while both Byrd and Thomas are talented DBs Im just not sure that either have the speed/quickness for spread offenses. Haughton is very quick and seems to have great instincts. Good reports on McKinney as well.
I dont have a favorite horse in this race. Im for whoever can get it done be it Byrd, Thomas, Haughton or McKinney.

          • Mr. Jones says:

That would definitely bode well for this year. I don’t think either have to have AA type years but just being consistently sound would be enough for me.

      • Randy says:

I love Haughton but like they say “let’s wait until they get hit in the mouth” before we a annoint them starters…

      • Sooner 76 says:

Yes, quite possible. I was inconsistent. I surmised that PJ would surpass everyone at C not named Sanchez, but made no assumptions about the safety positions.

It is quite possible that both safeties get surpassed by the freshmen. My bad.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

      Mbanasor is a freshman

    • SoonerMGB56 says:

I’m sorry….I don’t see A Thomas or Byrd atop the safety depth chart past mid season this year, let alone next year.

I’m totally understanding of the concept that safeties don’t really become ready for prime time, in most cases, until their junior years. But Byrd/Thomas have been so bad, that I’m not convinced that experience will be enough.

I see the freshman taking over mid year, and/or Will Johnson taking the nickel, with Parker moving to one of the safety positions, with a freshman at the other.

      Maybe I’m wrong….

      • Sooner 76 says:

Parker is already starting at one of the safety positions when they are in the 4 DB alignment.

        • SoonerMGB56 says:

This was all based on the depth chart above, which is based on the nickel being the base defense.

    • Will Narramore says:

Sanchez isnt staying for his senior year. He’s NFL bound after this year. Pretty much said as much when he announced he was returning last year.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    update added

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Young is a stud, but I don’t think we’ll be able to keep him in state. Dude already has offers from just about anybody that a good basketball player would want offers from. UK. Duke. KU. With more coming I’m sure.

    • JrsySooner says:

You mean like whats his name? You know the dude in LA…oh ya Blake Griffin

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Does Young have a brother playing for OU that I’ve forgotten about?

I’m also not 100% sure that Blake had offers from UK and Duke. I know KU offered.

        • Mr. Jones says:

Not sure about specific offers but Blake was a top 25 recruit his Sr year so I doubt his options were limited.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Not that this is the point of my post, but plenty of top 25 recruits that don’t get offered by anybody. Two of them showed up at OU in Tiny Gallon and TMG.

    • JB says:

But he may see an opportunity for early PT on Kruger’s team and play in front of his family. You have to try!

      • SoonerfanTU says:

He’ll be a starter or major contributor from day 1 where ever he goes. OU will have a lot of guards ahead of him too. Especially if we can convince Pritchard to join us.

I’m not saying don’t try, just saying it’s a long shot. I don’t believe he was born/raised in Oklahoma either, though I’m not sure how long he has been here. Hope we land him. He is a great player.

  • GDO says:

So with Thompson not taking a visit anymore, is there still a good chance Parker will come out, and if so do you think he is one of the guys we are holding a spot for? He seems to be the most complete player of all the corners we are still recruiting.

  • hOUligan says:

It is heartening to see OU getting the guys they want; guys at the top of OUr board and not doing that last minute scramble throwing out offers. I love OU getting to the point where they are having to turn down top kids. It sets a tone, like ‘Bama, you sign on early or risk losing a spot if you want to be at OU.

    • rphokc says:

it is an interesting phenomenon considering ’14 results and no one has seen the ‘new regime’ play a down yet………think I would credit the new coaches and perhaps a revitalized energy they brought to the dance for these early recruiting results…….hope they all stick by feb after observing the team play this yr

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

      AGREED!!!

  • Ruddoj says:

hope the commits we have keep their word and sign with OU and I hope the ‘sorry we are full and done recruiting your position’ does not come back and bite OU on signing day.

tough (but good) spot to be in…..

  • metzker says:

What was the story on lampkin was he once a commit?I dont recall

    • Zack says:

Yes. De-committed. Was debating if he would stick with Texas prior to nsd. He did stick with Texas so I’m not sure why everyone wants him so bad.

      • metzker says:

O doh he is the one that didnt make it in at texas for spanish classes correct?

      • metzker says:

His hudl he looks like a beast to me

      • BoomerDave says:

I want him because apparently our coaches do. Personally, I think the kid had some family pressures to sign with Texas and had immediate buyers remorse as he tweeted out his displeasure about being lied to. I think he did everything in his power not to qualify so to get out of his LOI.

        • Zack says:

That’s the part that bothers me “I think he did everything in his power not to qualify so to get out of his LOI.”

He was lied to because his position coach left? So did Monty

          • Drew says:

The difference was that Strong told him his coach wasn’t leaving, when he already knew that he was. When Monty got offered the NFL job, he called his recruits first, and DeBerry told him to take it.

          • Sooner 76 says:

Plus the Packers did not even contact Monty until AFTER signing day, so Monty never lied to recruits. Shows class on the part of the Packers, IMO.

          • boomersooner says:

I believe part of the deal that appealed to him was tejas said his position coach wasn’t going anywhere. They crawfished. I wouldn’t wanna spend the next 4 or 5 yrs of my life around people I know I can’t trust

          • BoomerDave says:

As for Monty leaving, apples and oranges, IMO. I truly believe he always wanted to be a Sooner and still wants to be a Sooner. Just my opinion.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Refresh my memory, why were the first two playoff games played on New Year’s Day last year, and New Year’s Eve this year? Does it depend on the specific bowl games that hosting them?

  • rphokc says:

since I’ve asked a couple of times re walker with no response, found this via LT poster……at least it’s something……..

Just watched the media interview Charles Walker on Periscope. He was covered in grass and drinking a smoothie. Highlights:

He said coach Reynolds is just like Montgomery.

Says his knee injury set him back mentally and physically but he’s back in the right frame of mind.

Tapper is a good leader for the whole line.

The O-line pushes them hard and it helps everyone get better.

He’s playing inside and outside. I guess it depends on the front.

    — also, shannon media interview…..

What was your question original question?

      • rphokc says:

sk…..no biggie, just asked once for general news about him since there didn’t seem to be much except rumors of questionable work ethic before camp started……then, on media day, a poster referred to something said about walker and it peeked reporters interest, but no elaboration when asked…….perhaps I missed news on tfb but was just curious since big things were expected of him for ’15………thxs for responding

  • James says:

Man I can’t wait for this season to get started!

  • Jesse says:

Who would yall rather see at QB this year? Personally I’m about 50/50 with knight and mayfield but then there’s the thought of Thomas who IMO has a lot more upside than both knight and mayfield.

    • Mike Reed says:

Whichever one will lead us to the promised land.

    • roygbell says:

I don’t have a preference. I will trust the judgment of Lincoln Riley. He is the guy who is out there with these guys everyday and he is the one who knows what he is looking for in his QBs. His choice is the one I want on the field.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

      Anyone but knight.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

This is a touchy subject with a few around here. I hope they all do well, but I understand your sentiment.

        • boomersooner says:

It’s not touchy. It’s the fact that someone doesn’t need to put someone else down to give his life meaning. Period. End of discussion

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m not trying to put him down. He seems like a great young man. With me I’ve just seen enough of him to move onto someone else.

          • Dustin says:

If Trevor starts, will you watch and cheer on the Sooners?

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I will certainly watch and root for him. I’d just prefer we let someone else have a shot.

          • Dustin says:

            So, it doesn’t matter. Gotcha.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

It doesn’t matter who starts I will watch. I would just prefer someone else.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

I have a job. I am a fan, not a coach. I will admit I am not an expert at football but I have my opinion and it won’t change. I’ve seen enough of him to want someone else.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I understand your point. You’ve seen the Knight of 2013 and 2014, and, like you, I don’t want that Knight. However, there is a chance that Riley could make him better. How much? Remains to be seen. But whoever the expert picks (Riley) I’ll cheer and support him equally.

          • Zack says:

Knight will win the job. I personally think people are too infatuated with mayfield it’s not like he’s Sam Bradford so I’m not sure what all the hype is about. I think people are going to have a different sense of mayfield when he goes through adversity. I would have to go back and see how he was at tech when things weren’t going well, did he pout? Did he try to encourage his team? I don’t know. But I do know that Trevor has a great attitude and other leadership qualities that people overlook. Also I think Riley will put knight in better position to be successful.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

We can only hope. But so far, judging by two Spring games Mayfield has played better than Knight.

          • Boom says:

And you know this by all the QB training you have received in different offenses. Or, do you train QB’s in your time off. If so, I will listen.
Spring games, now that is a sure fire way to determine a QB.
My point in all of this, judge Knight in Riley’s offense, not JH’s. If he doesn’t perform, trust me, Riley will be the first to know.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

No. But I’ve coached at the high school level and have studied football probably before you were born. What is there not to know about the two Spring games? If you couldn’t tell who played better last year and this year, then I can’t help you. My statement about the Spring game is false? The Spring game is a single game, but that is all I’ve had to go on until Riley came in. Perhaps Knight is beating him out in Riley’s offense, that’ll be great. Can you say the same if Mayfield wins the job?

Like I said, I hope Knight will take us where we need to go. Why are you so sensitive? Most fans what the best player out there. Seems like in defending Knight so much you are against Mayfield for some reason.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Read SoonerOracle737’s post. I’m not the only one who questions Knight’s ability to this point.

“That must have hit a nerve, so it still appears to be a sensitive subject. I didn’t question his motives on posting that comment, and I hope you aren’t questioning mine. I think TK9 is a wonderful human being and great teammate. I don’t get my kicks by bashing anyone.”

          • boomersooner says:

that was a response to me. however, no, i do not get offended. i want what’s best for the team and am pretty sure the coaches know what that means. it is not a sensitive subject. i just want there to be no douchebags here. if you constantly bitch, moan, complain, berate, etc any player or coach or situation just let it breathe for a minute. these things are almost entirely out of these people’s control, but they feel the need to come on here and bounce off the walls for days on end when there is no chance something has even had a chance at changing. for example, if tk’s final 4 passes of last yr were all picks, complaining EVERY SINGLE DAY of the offseason says much much more about the complainer than anyone else in creation

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            I can see your point.

          • boomersooner says:

Thanks. And contrary to popular belief, I hate coming down on people but I hate people ragging on others or beating on horses worse. Trying with everything in me to tone it down

          • Boom says:

Not sensitive towards TK and I don’t want to argue as we are all sooner fans. However, I think you would have to agree you continue to pound on Trevor. I’ve always said I’m for the QB who wins the job. More importantly, the QB who in Riley’s system who wins the job. Also, if you coached the game, you could better communicate why you don’t want a certain player or not. Saying a spring game/s he didn’t do well doesn’t provide why he shouldn’t be the QB. Based on your HS background, you could enlighten us with his strengths and weaknesses. Going off of two years in JH system would be hard for any QB.
I was born in 61 and grew up watching film with coaches since I was 8 years old. Started watching OU in 1968. Our family was in the business. I played but times are different and I’m always learning more as I’m around guys who played in the NFL (recently) and multiple college players. In addition, I go to camps and visit with HS coaches and trainers all the time. It’s great to hear breakdowns, not tear downs.
There are some posters on here like JK Abbott, SoonerCoach, & Josh that I really respect and enjoy their input. However, I have yet to hear one of them with all of their HS background pile on a player.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I was born in September of 61. IMHO, in his high school film, he didn’t set his feet often. While under JH system, he consistently threw high. Check the film. I am disregarding all the dropped passes that may or may not have been caused by Knight due to inaccuracy. Further, he missed read the D end a lot on the read option, most notable against TCU when Perine was stopped on 4th and 1. He throws a nice deep ball on occasion, but too many times it was uncatchable being high and out of bounds. I believe he was recruited to run the read option. Hence his struggles with a pure passing game. Like I said nothing personal toward the man. But he reminds of the inconsistent Zac Robinson. However, in Riley’s offense he may develop his skills. In 2013, he played great against K St, Bell won the Notre Dame and Okie St games. Knight showed his potential in the Bama game. Can he find consistency in 2015?

This is just one man’s view. It may not be an accurate view. But let’s call it a day on Knight. I’ll promise to just sit back and root for the man whether he starts or comes off the bench. But we all entitled to a view correct?

          • Boom says:

            Fair enough

          • Fear The Magic says:

I personally prefer whoever Riley prefers since his future income depends on making the right and best choice. In other words I dont care who it is as long as Lincoln feels hes the man for the job.

          • Tucker says:

I give this response two thumbs up.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

That must have hit a nerve, so it still appears to be a sensitive subject. I didn’t question his motives on posting that comment, and I hope you aren’t questioning mine. I think TK9 is a wonderful human being and great team mate. I don’t get my kicks by bashing anyone.

          • boomersooner says:

How is someone putting someone else down “striking a nerve”? How about this guy posts this on a loop almost every day. Just like the people who hate Mike. Or those that hate kish. Or those that hate Bob. How about people just come on here and not be a holes. Cause when it all boils down, I’m going to side with someone I have something in common with not a fickle fan

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I think you need more proof that MS, TK, BS, and Kish are truly hated than fans simply calling for improved play, players and coaching. Hate is a strong word and shouldn’t be so easily tossed around.

We (assumed) all love OU and have for many years. Myself, since 1972. I like all the players and coaches, but my beef with Knight isn’t personal, he is a brother in Christ on top of being an OU qb. However, based on two years performance, I am doubtful about his ability to get us where we need to go. But I hope he’s gotten better and if he wins the job, I’ll be rooting him on just as I did Dave Robertson, Steve Davis, Thomas Lott, JC Watts…etc..JH, Hybl, White, Bomar, Thompson, Bradford, and LJ.

          • boomersooner says:

hoping they do better and posting every single day on the calendar harping about how bad mike, kish, tk, bob, et al suck are not even in the same sport, much less the same ballpark. there are numerous people on here who either hate them or need to watch what they say. i’m not trying to police this site, no matter what some think, just sticking up for people who aren’t here to defend themselves. i’m going to side with the player or coach if i have to choose a side between them and some nameless, faceless interneter

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Fair enough. But some of the posters that have expressed concern with the coaches and players are TFB themselves correct?

          • boomersooner says:

            concern? yes
beating the absolute tar out of an already perfectly dead horse? not even a little bit

          • Tucker says:

I don’t think Lane’s intent was to put him down. That’s just his opinion. Does that really make him fickle?

          • boomersooner says:

its every single day so yes

          • Tucker says:

I’m not trying to draw this out, buuut he changes his opinion every day?

          • boomersooner says:

fickle is a fan who takes ones performance on the field and forms an opinion of that person. when someone is on here daily running his mouth about someone else it becomes more than opinion, it becomes more than “i’m calling him out until he gets better”. so pretty much. let it go. the horse has been beaten to death numerous times on mike, kish, bob, tk, et al. move on with life. let them play the freaking games and then you can start bitching about everything. it gets old. its been old

          • JD says:

What is fickle is him wanting OU to have good qb play (if in fact he does) but doesn’t want it to be TK…does it matter who the qb is as long as they are the best option

    • John Garner says:

No preference other than the QB who can move the sticks without throwing a bunch of picks.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

anyone that can matriculate the ball down the field, as the man once said…..

  • Matt says:

any update on when Austin Roberts will join the team?

  • KJ1123 says:

First scrimmage tomorrow, I’m sure some, if not most of the roster/depth chart will start taking shape by tomorrow evening.

  • Lesslie Stanford says:

Two kind of random questions. Did I miss the video of the Oklahoma Drill, or has it not been posted? Also does OU do Bull in the Ring?

    • Daddy R says:

I have not seen it yet either, and not sure on your second question..

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

I haven’t seen it either. I’m pretty sure that TFB would highlight it and I’d see it hyped via a bunch of other outlets, so I’m leaning towards “has not yet been posted.”

      • soonersd says:

No more Oklahoma Drill. I heard Dusty discussing it on the Animal a few days ago.

        • Fear The Magic says:

Anyone hear the Dusty / Trabor confrontation? Classic.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I avoid listening to that loud mouth sheep humping JT but I did read some comments about the showdown and it sounded funny. I’m glad Dusty holds his own against that blowhard.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Yeah it didnt exactly get heated but was approaching that. Good to know that if it ever got physical that Dusty could wipe the floor with dopey Trabor.

          • soonersd says:

I think I caught the one you are referring to but they seem to go at it quite a bit.

There aren’t many people in this world I can’t stand more than Traber. The combination of his voice and the bullshit that spills out of it makes it really makes it difficult to tune in when he’s on.

    • soonersd says:

They are no longer doing the Oklahoma Drill. Apparently, a lot of schools/universities are no longer doing the drill. Seems like some sort of week PR move cause it’s pretty much just a football play. RIP Oklahoma Drill 🙁

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Pillow fights. But only when in the proper safety attire.

  • Davey says:

I did not know there were versions of TFB for Texas. http://texas.thefootballbrainiacs.com/

    • Sooner Ray says:

It’s new and hasn’t caught on yet….you know, stupid whorns and all. They don’t know what’s good for them.

    • Daddy R says:

Yea, I found that out the other day. SO WEIRD! But, I’m slowly “getting over it.” And it’s Tejas for that matter! Its almost like you’ve found out your woman (or man), has another man too! Damn.

But, good for TFB. They are the best, and I guess it was only dreaming that we could keep them all to ourselves. Lol

Try to catch the Bud Wilkinson shows. They run from early fifties. Also nice to watch the 1956 ND game (and NOT the 1957 one).

Great speed and balance. That pitch at the :40 sec mark by Holloway was most excellent!

        • Fear The Magic says:

Just watching these clips. The list of great RBs goes on and on.
If OU isnt RB U no one is.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I was thinking about that earlier today, I have forgotten about more great backs at OU than have played at most Universities. Crazy.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Totally crazy! When you think about RBs like Allen and Parker and Gaddis that might not even be rated in OUs top 5….its NUTS
All of those RBs could be #1 ever at some schools.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Don’t forget Elvis Peacock. There are very few times in OU history that we have not had a good/great running back, even in the down years, we seem to have found a running back to step up.

          • Fear The Magic says:

yep Elvis for sure. If I had to name the top 5 ( which is tough ) it might be in no particular order Sims Washington Peterson Pruitt and Dupree but you can put 10 OU RBs after that were nothing less than outstanding backs.

Edit: And I dont even know how I could leave Steve Owens off that list.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            Demarco Murray?

      • Daddy R says:

GREAT clip! Ah, the days of Fuente and Allen.. I loved watching James Allen, guy was so fast and not afraid to lay the wood. He and Demond were the highlights of some darker days in the sooner football reign..
