Open Post | Weekend, May 6th – 8th (UPDATE Fri., 2:39 pm)

Stephan Zabie: There wasn’t a ton of news in the OU recruiting world this week, but there certainly was for Texas A&M. With the bit of drama that was stirred up following 2017 QB Tate Martell’s decommitment from the Aggies, TFB checked in to see where things stand with one of OU’s top 2017 offensive line targets, Stephan Zabie (Austin, TX). Who is considering a few schools but in talking to people around Zabie, we always got the sense that TAMU and OU were sitting somewhere near the top of his list.

Zabie was very clear when he spoke with TFB that although a lot of people assume he’s going to A&M, “that’s not true.” OU has already sent a couple coaches by to see Zabie, who told TFB he’s being recruited by a few people on the OU staff, including Calvin Thibodeaux. And Zabie mentioned liking Thibodeaux’s recruiting pitch, “he said I had amazing feet, and I could be the next Trent Williams. Which I believe, I just need to get stronger and more physical and keep learning the game.”

The bottom line with Zabie when it comes to the Sooners is, as he puts it, “they really want me.” Right now it seems the OU coaches may be simply out recruiting just about everyone elsewhen it comes to the talented 2017 offensive lineman. – (Super K)

Devodrick Johnson: A new 2017 linebacker name to keep an eye on is Devodrick Johnson (Dallas, TX), who plays both linebacker and quarterback for Kimball HS. Johnson has recently seen interest pick up, receiving offers from Oklahoma State and Purdue just this week. Johnson is already put together like a underclassmen in college at 6’2-6’3 210 lbs, and the kid can flat-out run.

But here is what’s really interesting. Johnson is the younger brother of current OU cornerback Antoine Stephens. Johnson made the trip up for the spring game a few weeks back, and TFB has been told the Sooners are very interested. We suspect one of OU’s staff will stop by in the near future to watch Johnson in pads and if an offer is extended, one would have to think the Sooners will be in the drivers seat.

BJ Foster: The OU staff recently made a second trip to Angelton, TX to see standout 2018 DB BJ Foster, who already holds offers from all over the country. And the Sooners are making sure Foster knows he is a top priority. Foster tells TFB that he plans on visiting Oklahoma this summer.

Keondre Coburn: Another 2018 prospect the Sooners recently stopped by to see is defensive tackle, Keondre Coburn (Houston, TX). Coburn is also a young prospect who has seen his stock rise recently picking up offers from OU, Ole Miss, Michigan, TCU, Texas A&M and others.

Coburn trains in the same group as Marvin Wilson, Walker Little, and a number of other top prospects in the Houston area. Coburn says he plans on making the trip up to Norman this summer probably around the same time as Wilson & co. are expected to head north. Which, again, as of right now is looking like it will be between June 4th-8th.

Interestingly Coburn tells TFB he’s originally from California so unlike many other prospects out of Texas, Coburn’s allegiances aren’t necessarily local. Which certainly makes things easier on the Sooners. – (Super K)

AJ Davis: Did some checking and despite the recent commitment of Trey Sermon, TFB has been told the OU staff is still pushing hard for 2017 RB, AJ Davis (Lakeland, FL).

In a recent interview with Rivals, Davis did mention the Sooners being at or near the top of his list. However, that was prior to the commitment of Sermon. It’s unclear at this point where things stand with Davis, but OU would definitely still like to bring him into the fold if possible. – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:39 pm): Alex Ross to transfer.

What’s the skinny on LB Jacob Phillips?

      No skinny linebackers

We got lots of crystal balls to us and then Wham! Alabama offered. Jerks.

      • Ura Hogg says:

Most schools have to work hard at deciding which of the top prospects do they have a chance with. Bama has to work hard at deciding which of the top prospects they want.

        • Cav66 says:

Only one way to counter that, win championships.

        • T. Rob says:

But it wasn’t always that way. They had to start the movement, then when a national title. This class can be that movement starter for us to dominate like Obama on the recruiting trail. Another CFP run will make waves in recruitment as well.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Agree totally. The only thing constant is change. Bama will not stay on top forever and there’s no reason OU can’t return to their rightful place at the top of the heap.
The hard work in recruiting right now will definitely level the playing field in regard to talent.
            OU is trending UP!
            BOOMER!

At least Ole Mi$$ hasn’t offered yet.

    Yo bro’s.

  • Ura Hogg says:

That’s a really nice post about Zabie. ‘Out-recruiting everybody else’ is what leads to an amazing class!

    • hOUligan says:

Sounds like what Mykel Jones said… “they (OU) really wanted me”. Develop a genuine relationship w/ the kids.

      • T. Rob says:

They do. Even though Tyrese has been committed for months now, we still hear from coach B every other day. They continue to show their commits they still NEED them and not just a want.

        • hOUligan says:

Kids get blinded by the glitz and glamor and the ‘sweet talk’. It’s important that they understand which staff really cares about them as a person and is going to develop them as a young man, see that they get their grades and give of themselves. I think Bob Stoops and his staff are genuine and the smart kids see this.

  • hOUligan says:

Don’t see a lot of kids play QB/WR/LB but that Johnson kid can flat out run. And he brings it when he hits. Interesting prospect.

  • cush creekmont says:

Thanks K! I love to hear – “OU coaches may be simply out recruiting just about everyone else when it comes to the talented 2017 offensive lineman.”

Thanks super K,I cant take anymore realignment talk, now how bought some updates?
    j/k

  • KJ1123 says:

I like Zabie. I like that he plays mostly out of a two point and makes good contact. He leans a little too much and moves before the snap but his frame can carry another 30 lbs easily.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

      What are his measurables?

      • KJ1123 says:

His 247 says 6’5″ 290 but looks fairly lean.

        • hOUligan says:

Plenty of length and, as you said, could put on #s and build strength … it’s that footwork that separates the good ones.

          • KJ1123 says:

Right and his footwork is actually pretty decent, plays with a good base for a taller kid.

          • hOUligan says:

.. and you like to see these young linemen w/ that natural heavy lower body/base, and build upper body strength in your program.

          • KJ1123 says:

Definitely. I just got to his pass pro on his film, technique wise, probably the best Ive seen in this 2017 class. He’s been taught well. Good solid base, good kick, good punch, good mirroring, etc.

          • hOUligan says:

Always appreciate and respect your input on these guys whether OUrs now or hopefully ‘to be’.

          • Cav66 says:

            Amen houligan.

          • T. Rob says:

I just scheduled Tyrese a appointment tomorrow with a trainer to keep working on that footwork.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Is Tyrese working on Mr. Zabie to join the SoonerSquad17?

          • T. Rob says:

I seen a tweet or two awhile back, but not to sure. Will have to see. Were going to need at least one more foundation piece on that oline for this class. #1A1B

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I guess we could call Tyrese “The Cornerstone” then right? LOL

          • T. Rob says:

Lol. He’s hyped up to be that. I told ppl are expecting for you to come in and turn heads. So he knows the pressure is on and we working to get him college ready as possible for Coach B. Remember he’s still 16. He’ll be 17 going into OU summer camp. Coach B is going to grow him into a beast on the line mark my word. Lol

          • SamSooner says:

Of course he will be a beast: he has God’s favor.

          • T. Rob says:

Love having a top notch youngster (16) in the fold with top notch influence around him in family and coaches getting him ready for the next level. Those off the field influences are going to go along for the kid when he gets to campus! Makes this Sooner smile ear to ear.

Thanks again for your contribution T. Rob, much appreciated.

Even though he’s going to the rival team, I love hearing about how he’s got a great support system in his family to keep him on track and away from complacency and distractions. Good job, my man. Keep his head on straight!

          • Drew says:

Hey Rob, do you know if that “secret” #soonersquad17 member from the grouptext has come out yet? It hasn’t been brought up in a while, but I’m wondering if we still have a nice surprise ahead of us.

          • T. Rob says:

Man they throw hints but really like to respect the uncommitted recruit their moment of shine on social media and like a real brother hood keep it underwraps. I can say this much they know a 5star who is close

          • hOUligan says:

Good man, T. All will be revealed in due time. It has to be fun to be a fly on the wall watching these kids.

          • SamSooner says:

Is there any chance Cede comes back to the fold? Hearing anything there or has that ship sailed?

          • hOUligan says:

Personally, I’m hoping SoonerSquad17 gets Omar to join the posse. He’s pretty close to some of the guys. And gotta keep Rambo and Reagor in the fold now that the horns are targeting them.

          • Jim Casy says:

            OMAR. YEAH!

          • Bob Edwards says:

Well that narrows it down. You’ve just given the board something speculate er talk about for several days.

          • Drew says:

To me, that’s great news! That means we have a 4+ star silent commit; I can certainly wait as long as he does. I guess I just wanted to know if he was still a secret, or if he had since decided to commit. Thanks for the reply. And since you’re already here, any updates on Hines? You were pretty confident about him coming to the good guys last time you were here, I hope that hasn’t changed?

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

T Rob, with that good news I think I’ll treat myself to some All you can eat sushi lmao. I hope all the camps work out well for you and Tyrese!

          • cush creekmont says:

You’re a good brother! It takes work to be great at anything.

          • T. Rob says:

            Thanks Cush.

          • Dana Rogers says:

            T. – if you’re still around… Read an article a couple of days ago saying Tyrese plays with a nasty streak. And while we love us some a dat could you give us a couple of words on what he’s like when there’s no football field near and surrounded by family and friends? Thx.

          • T. Rob says:

            What was on Dana?

          • hOUligan says:

Hey T. Good to hear Tyrese is working hard to give himself the best chance. A lot of hard work but the payoff is a college education and maybe a chance to make some large $$$ in the league for a few years. Hope he’s still solid Sooner. We need him and a few like him.

          • T. Rob says:

Exactly! Going to school for 4 years at OU is not cheap.

          • SWoods says:

Hey T. Rob. Always great to hear from you!

SW, welcome back, brother. Where have you been hiding?

          • SWoods says:

Well I had a business trip out of the country, then I came home to a death in the family. All is well, and glad to be back!

          • SamSooner says:

Sorry to hear about the death in your family.

            How goes it?

Promise that you will visit regularly. We miss the energy you bring when you’re here.

          • T. Rob says:

Its all good Sam. Thanks for the love. I will try to stop through more often my friend.

          • SamSooner says:

We’d love that. We don’t get too many posters this close to a recruit. It makes us feel special. We like your insight and your directness.

          • hOUligan says:

And it’s not just about Tyrese…just so you know. You’re a good poster and bring a lil extra to the table. But we do like the extra insight …. just sayin’…

          • SamSooner says:

Two thumbs up for this post.

It proves you’re more than a hooligan.

          • hOUligan says:

I look and act like a hooligan sometimes … less as I get older … but deep down, I’m really a nice guy once you get to know me. Lol

          • metzker says:

You guys let T ROB go all night tell next am when i saw his BOOMER,AND OF Course replied with SOONER TOLD HIM I WOULDNT LEAVE HIM HANGING LIKE THAT.

          • KJ1123 says:

Footwork/technique is key. Im sure he knows but on this level everyone is big fast etc, not like high school….what separates them on the field is sound technique…and definitely football smarts.

          • Boom says:

Grind baby, grind. Love the process and focus on your dream Tyrese. Be an example to your teammates so they work hard too. Make a statement. Keep bringing it T. Rob.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

But at 6’5 he could easily put on a few or 30 like you said 🙂

    • NoconaNugget7 says:

A lot of Horns fans are wanting to see Charlie move on Zabie yet the staff hasn’t really. Makes me think he’s coming yalls way. Especially after the swagdumpster is burning so brightly again…

Oh is there any doubt how wonderful it is to see aggy in turmoil when it can make Horns and Sooners sing kumbaya together?

      • hOUligan says:

        …. I’ll abide it …

        • NoconaNugget7 says:

I jumped on TexasAgs and the typical “well, I think this may be a good thing cause I just don’t know that Martell was SEC good” was running rampant. What they gonna do when he commits to Auburn or LSU and abuses them and their sheep?

          • DrewChubbs says:

Have none of the Ags bothered to realize that nothing they bring to the table is “SEC good?” As a Sooner fan, I know I’m biased when I say they were middle of the road in the Big 12. How do they appear from your side of the river? I would assume much the same, but probably even worse.

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

Most are unbearable and they have bought into the S-E-C chant and are hanging their merits on their affiliation. Really, its because they are desperate to try and be better than big brother at something. Penis envy.

Every kid that chooses Texas or OU over them all of a sudden couldn’t hack it in the SEC. The best was that the kids that decommited along with/after Martel were “entitled millennials” and “if they got their feelings hurt by a couple tweets, they sure wouldn’t be tough enough to take a hit from an SEC linebacker.:”

Heck, there was even a post defending Manziel on there. Unreal.

I actually saw ONE post on there yesterday where someone was calling for Sumlin’s head and said “have you ever heard of things like the QB decommits or this current situation at any other major program” and one of their other posters put “We are not a major program.” So, the mythical unicorn known as a realistic aggy does exist.

          • DrewChubbs says:

I’m shocked!!! I might even be tempted to buy those one or two realistic fans a beer. Probably more like, email them a voucher for a free beer, but still…

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

Yeah, I would avoid direct contact…not sure when aggy might become contagious—even airborne. I wouldn’t risk it.

          • DrewChubbs says:

I’m shocked!!! I might even be tempted to buy those one or two realistic fans a beer. Probably more like, email them a voucher for a free beer, but still…

          • Boom says:

Hey Nocona, I have lived in Texas for almost 30 years. I know all to well the ATM blindness. However, I do respect that they took the leap to get away from UT & the Big 12 mess UT has caused. I like the rivalry with UT but it’s time to say goodbye. I’m looking forward to the day we do the same.

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

NO SCHOOL is going to turn down $15 million a year in revenue…not Texas, not OU, not anyone. I’ve admitted that DeLoss got arrogant and did some damage to the conference. But, everyone screams about the Longhorn Network and its issues…but back when discussions of a television network were started in 2007 Texas wanted aggy to make the network a joint venture and aggy refused. And when the Big XII voted regarding individual schools retaining their individual broadcast rights not covered under contracts with the major networks—OU, Nebraska, and aggy voted with Texas to individually retain.

At the end of the day I think Texas and OU should right the ship together or split together. I think the PAC is where they would go. The only school I truly hate to see get left out in the cold is Okie Lite.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Do you really think the powers that be in Austin would be able to agree to a deal with the schools on the West Coast?
There’s no way the USCs and UCLAs or Stanfords would go for UT coming in with anything near the power they hold now. I truly believe if/when the Big 12 collapses, UT will be forced to go independent.

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

I don’t mean this to sound arrogant at all…I’m not that type of fan…but there isn’t a conference in the nation that wouldn’t want Texas because of the television sets involved. So I do not believe that we would be “forced” to go independent. Now the same amount of “power” comes down to ego’s in Austin. Some of those egos are gone now, and I think that Fenves is a lot less egotistical. Now the regents…I don’t know.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Yeah, my point was that UT would have to accept a position holding less power than they have presently in the Big 12 in order to make a deal to join another conference. Basically it would be a step down for them, and I’m thinking they would prefer to go the independent route and put themselves on the Notre Dame plane which in some ways would be a step up. Or at least it would show a lot of confidence in their brand, which they obviously have as shown by the Longhorn Network.

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

I don’t know that I like the independent model…but its worked for Notre Dame the last couple years and I think with the push to play better quality opponents in OOC schedules, that could help a new independent…and dollars UT generates will help scheduling. But if we ever do end up with SuperConferences it could get very difficult.

My hope is that we can work it out to get a Big12 network and have Florida State, UCF, Clemson, and another throw in or 3 like Memphis/Louisville to solidify the conference.

          • Boom says:

Texas is attractive, no doubt. However, the question exists – what does UT do with LHN if they went to another conf?? UT will not be able to keep it. That said, would UT drop it to get with the Pac? No. But, if they did, why wouldn’t they just do it for the Big 12?

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

I don’t mean this to sound arrogant at all…I’m not that type of fan…but there isn’t a conference in the nation that wouldn’t want Texas because of the television sets involved. • Stephen Dale says:

OU needs to chart its own path and out from under the shadow of Texas….Texas will always do what is best for Texas and to he** with everyone else….

          • SoonerSpock says:

With the demise of the Big 12 and the movement of Texas to the SEC, B1G or Pac 12 they would carry impact because of their population and TV sets but they would no longer be the big stick in the conference. That will continue to be the traditional big schools in the respective conferences.

OU and Texas in the same conference would provide more leverage for each school than if they go their separate way.

          • Boom says:

I know all about how the network wanted to start. However, ATM athletics program was in a financial bind and they have no funds to create the ground work for the network. Texas had to pick up the pieces. Great opportunity for UT.
At that time, both OU (fox) & UT (LHN) thought the 3rd tier rights would give them more exposure and that was the wave of the future. They were wrong.
Turning down 15 million? Maybe but UT may have the opportunity to make more than that with a Big 12 network. However, the way UT thinks is the following, why make more and give all the others exposure when we can have it all to ourselves. That is the issue.

          • NoconaNugget7 says:

And the “step away” that aggy took was about nothing other than arrogance. I think that should be evident by their new SEC mantra and the way they take not just their usual shots at the Longhorns, but also at your Sooners as well. They like to claim that OU is as soft and meek as any other “non-SEC” team. I don’t respect that one single bit.

          • Boom says:

Arrogance, maybe so, maybe not. They may be a middle of the road team in SEC but they will make more money, receive more media exposure, and not have to deal with UTs BS. If you weren’t a UT fan, you would understand. Also, why not buy into the SEC mantra, what mantra does the Big 12 have? Big 12 mantra – Texas owned?
Texas wants to be the godfather of Big 12 and have all other teams as faithful captains. Doesn’t work that way.
All teams take shots so that don’t bother me.

          • Stephen Dale says:

            me too.

          • SoonerSpock says:

I doubt we leave Texas for another conference. Any change is about money and money means TV revenue. While OU affords a national name in the football world they do not draw that many TV sets from Midwest, East Coast or West Coast and with a population of 3.9 million only a limited number of TV sets from a national perspective.

Texas on the other hand has a population of 27.5 million or 7 times the population of Oklahoma. UT also has a national football reputation. Combined they provide any new conference 31.5 million people and two national football powers. That is significantly more leverage for both schools in a new conference as a package than OU making that transition by themselves.

A movement to the Pac12 provides even more leverage for the schools if they bring along two other conference members to form an eastern division of the Pac12 along with ASU, Arizona, Utah and Colorado. With this alignment West Coast travel would be minimal

Such a move would afford the best arrangement for the Sooners to maximize their number of division, conference and national championships. Also a better winning percentage is available in the Pac12 and makes for happier OU fans.

          • j l says:

Myles garrett and christian kirk are legit, probably the best in the SEC, if not the country, at their respective positions. Too bad they signed with those chumps.

I know they do have some “SEC good” individuals. I was referring more to the program as a whole. Almost every school has one player that would qualify as “SEC good.”

          • j l says:

The 1 thing they do have now is the facilities. Now if they only had a coach who dosent implode the program, and can then fill up said stadium =)

          • Stephen Dale says:

had OU been in the SEC , both of those guys might be in Sooner uniforms today….

  • Sooner Ray says:

That is a very wise policy and I hope he employs it.

2.48 mm in NJ (giants real home) is a few coins less than in Texas or Fla. He will have to pay 39.6% in Fed taxes and then 9% on whats left for NJ taxes. Maybe he’ll have some good tax strategy, but at face value, he’ll clear about 1.363 million.

Edit – So he’ll get just under $ 135,000 less than if he went to Dallas, Houston, Tampa, Jacksonville, or Miami.

But it’s better than if he went to ANY California team.

        • ND52 says:

@cush_creekmont:disqus Quite true sir. I always chuckle to myself just a bit when I hear folks who’ve never lived in places like California or NY complain about the higher income levels in those two states. A lot of em never quite get what higher taxes and a higher cost-of-living does to the old pocketbook!

Is it normal for undrafted guys to get a contract before they’ve even went thru training camp or anything like that?

    • Bob Edwards says:

Sure, there is probably no guaranteed money. He would only get paid that much as long as he is with the team. So he gets paid to show up to practices etc, but if they cut him, no more money. Specifics could vary, but, as UDFA you don’t have much leverage in contract negotiations.

    • Bob Edwards says:

Good luck, Alex Ross. We appreciate all the work you put in here and hope you do well at your next stop. Congratulations on the degree.

  • soonersd says:

I will miss seeing AR one last year lined up for kick returns. At the same time, happy he graduated and don’t blame him for wanting to give it a go somewhere else. I’m confident with guys like Mixon, Anderson, and so on we can field a dangerous kick of return team without him. Best of luck Alex Ross and thanks for the memories!

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Don’t like the idea of Mixon on kicks. Think Murray and injured twice that cost us titles. Anderson yes, Quick, others.

      • soonersd says:

I know what you are saying and I have gone back and forth many times over the years with this debate. I just feel like this year with Perine, Mixon, Anderson, Brooks… with the chance of losing both Perine/Mixon next year ti the draft that he’s is just too electric not to try and utilize him as much as possible this season. If we lost Perine, Mixon or Anderson to any injury during the season I would then change my tune and say keep him out on ST’s. JMO, going in to this year though.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Okay. But you are assuming Anderson and Brooks can do what Mixon does for us out of the backfield=WR as well, block, run up the middle. Not too sure. If Mixon is just an after thought for the offense (not instrumental to it) then fine I agree.

          • soonersd says:

My thinking is a larger load for Perine if Mixon were to go down and hopefully Anderson is another big fast body could step up if need be. Believe me, I understand your reservations but Mixon could be a game changer on ST in my opinion and I want him utilized as much as possible this year. He’s already will be getting less carries than most superstar type backs cause of Perine.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Mixon definitely needs as many touches as possible. He hasn’t reached his high ceiling yet, and as you’ve mentioned this could be his last year. It would be good for him and for the team.

  • ALar03 says:

So question.. Whose returning kicks this year?? Mixon, quick, Anderson??

  • bjwalker82 says:

Looking back at our classes these past couple of years. 2014 kind of saved the program from its decline a little bit. Turns out Bob is right to continue to tout the Bama win haha

      • Soonerfish78 says:

Heard a little bit ago that it wasn’t true. He’s still alive and fighting man I hope he pulls through

  • T. Rob says:

Just finished first training session with Tyrese new trainer, former OU lineman B Braxton. He trains Trent Williams and lot of high profile h.s. lineman. Was training with 2016 Ole Miss commit Greg Little today. That kid has 1st round written all over him. How do you replace a lermy Tunsil? Go get you a G. Little.

    • Boom says:

I always wanted Little but I can’t understand the draw to a team that is in hot water and has peaked IMO.

      • T. Rob says:

I was talking with him after the session. He picked Ole Miss because of his family ties, the offense is similar to his high school offense and the fact they were going to have 3 open positions on the o line there so he can come in as a true freshman.

        • Boom says:

If your Little good it doesn’t matter whether there is competition in front of you or not. I understand his reason and wish him well as I’m a big fan. I guess this is the youth today. I would want to play for one of the best to prove myself. I don’t classify Ole Miss as being one of the best but what do I know.

          • T. Rob says:

I agree. Go to school were you have a chance of winning a NC. Before he heads on to the pros.

          • soonersd says:

I get what you are saying but with the talent Ole Miss has brought in the last 3-4 years in recruiting $$$ I’d be willing to bet these kids were sold on the fact they would be the ones to put Ole Miss amongst college football elite. Didn’t work, obviously, and I predict some sanctions for the Rebels in the near future.

On a side note, I have trouble wrapping my head around young African American kids wanting to be a part of a University where the confederate flag is still flown/hung proudly. I get it, they are “the Rebels” but it’s not something I would want to be a part of and i’m caucasian. To each their own, I guess.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Heard someone say on sports talk radio that there could be a commit or two over the next few days, I’ve been waiting patiently.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Aww man now you’re gonna be having me check back every 5 minutes! T. Rob mentioned the other day of a 5 Star who is close. Hopefully it is one of the commits you referenced.

        • T. Rob says:

Okudah and Hines are definitely still in the mix as well.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Wow, how sick would that defensive class be? We need some more beef to help out your bro on the OL.

          • T. Rob says:

Yeah I agree. Don’t be surprised if Creed jumps on board soon.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That would be awesome. Is brother cruitin some big boys hard?

          • T. Rob says:

You have to remember we got B Walker coming in 18, that kid Ruiz from IMG and another stud D. Sampson. They’re still working hard on getting G. Reed to flip on A&M. Which is possible but the 10 hr drive for his family from Houston to Norman is big problem for OU. If he lived in the dfw area it would have been a done deal awhile ago.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Heard anything on Dunlap from IMG? The guy in the Twitter post above? He seemed high on OU then seemed to like his Florida visit.

          • T. Rob says:

Maybe, but our current team is going to have another special year and that’ll take this soonersquad17 to another level. And the following year you will have schools trying to follow suit and recreate their recruiting success. But it takes the right players with the right chemistry.

          • Boom says:

            T. Rob, I live in Houston and it isn’t 10 hours, it’s more like 7 to 7.5 hours. I drive 80 tops so shouldn’t be that long.

          • T. Rob says:

They live on the south side of Houston . His Dad told me it was like a 10hr drive.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Small price to pay for a National Championship!! 😉

          • T. Rob says:

Oh yeah, they are still hounding the big dogs. They want to show tOSU and Bama they can recruit the top players too.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I noticed some guys had him going to A&M but man that would be tough to commit there after all that’s going on, they may have a tough time in this class.

          • Boom says:

Wilson & Rogers will have to go with the good guys due to peer pressure. : )

          • T. Rob says:

I think if coach B can get one more stud on the o line with the 17 class well be solid for years to come, I have feeling the 18 class will bring in the beef on the o line and d line.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Agreed, He was left with a fairly empty cupboard when he was hired, but he has done a tremendous job since he has been here.

          • T. Rob says:

He’s going after the NFL body type players with mean streaks. I notice his very picky on offers and most fit the same prototype. He is bringing back the OU-line NFL draft machine. Starting with O. Brown.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Yes sir, I love it! JY has mentioned the exact same thing, Coach B loves the road graders with a mean streak. Can’t tell you how happy this makes me.

          • T. Rob says:

Well that’s what makes Bama and tOSU so dominate. They run it down your throat with those NFL lineman.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Could you imagine Perine and Mixon behind a line like that with Baker and some playmakers at WR? Not to mention one if not the best young OC calling plays….hard to stop.

          • T. Rob says:

            That would be sick…

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Heard anything about CeeDee Lamb or who may fill his spot?

          • T. Rob says:

The situation with Lamb. After we got the 3rd WR commit, we had to turn away Rison, because he is a slot receiver and we have a better one with Reagor. Lamb wanted to continue taking his official and unofficial visits and the coaches weren’t so pleased with that. Based on the fact they had to turn Rison who was in love with OU away. So Lamb decided to just decommit to avoid the bad blood. The guys still keep tabs on him. But I get the sense its just till they find a suitable replacement. He sort of broke the brother hood they have formed.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Yea man I felt awful for Rison, he was clearly all OU but we filled up right before he announced.

          • T. Rob says:

You seen what they did last year with are young line.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

No kidding, Brown is going to be so good. He is an absolute monster.

          • DCinAZ says:

Alvarez is going to be a HUGE upgrade at center as well.

          • T. Rob says:

Yeah I like alvarez at center. To be honest I think the importance of a great center is overlooked at times. But he is solid foundation peice going forward.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

I think Ty had the leadership and the smarts, just didn’t have the body needed to dominate.

          • T. Rob says:

And that’s just something you can’t coach up.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

For sure, same deal with Nila. He only did like 12 reps at his pro day. I think Sterling had twenty something and he’s a WR. Makes sense thinking back on it now.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

And I forgot about how well Samia came in as a true freshman, obviously he’s only going to get better. Things are looking good for years to come in Nompton!

          • T. Rob says:

Samia is another stud. No doubt him and brown will be drafted when their time comes.

          • hOUligan says:

Some would say OU has gotten ‘lucky’ w/ a 4* like Brown ‘falling’ to OU when UTenn ‘backed off’. Same last year w/ Swenson, another 4*, when he got ‘dumped on’ by Harbaugh. Still have to have the relationships. Those guys won’t regret it. At some point kids are going to ‘see’ what Bedenbaugh is doing at OU taking these kids to the next level. Keep reminding Tyrese of that and how much the staff cares about him as a person, not just a player.

      • T. Rob says:

Im hearing the G. Rogers is a lock, we just have to wait for a particular date that’s special to his family. which is later this fall.

        • Jpsooner23 says:

T Rob, just want to say it is great to have someone with your knowledge and insight here with us. Your family seems to have it together and I’m pumped to welcome you guys to Sooner Nation.

      • Stephen says:

I’ve heard a few names passed around. Dunlap (2018 recruit) is getting close but also heard 2 to 3, 2017 guys are really, really close.

    • hOUligan says:

Here’s a link to a scout interview. Dunlap’s nervous mannerisms are fun to watch and reminds me these are still ‘kids’ … really, really huge kids. He was saying how he had never been on a college visit before IMG bused them to UF and FSU. From his twitter feed it’s looking like he was asking for editing help for a release of his top 5. OU listed as ‘favorite’ but UF closing fast.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

        Awesome, thanks for the info!

        • hOUligan says:

Compared to you and some of the other young ‘linked’ guys… I got nuthin’. Just come across something every once in a while.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Lol, I just post stuff I see on Twitter that I think the board would be interested in.

    • Slim Sooner says:

Googly eyes! Exclamation point is a good color.

      • DCinAZ says:

In his scout interview in the link below, he says one of the reasons he likes OU so much is he likes the Crimson and Cream look.

        • hOUligan says:

Yeah. Something about ‘not that other red like tosu or that other school’, think he’s talking about ‘Bama. Lol. If he chooses OU in part upon the shade of crimson, that’s fine by me but it sounds more like the Bedenbaugh factor.

  • Ura Hogg says:

Better make room in the swimming pool at OU. There’s been a Boomer born with a famous father:

Sup fellas, morning time. Da sun is shining, it’s Mothers Day and Jesus is Lord!

Was out last night with an OU basketball shirt, and a older gentleman guy stopped me and spoke about how he was from Kansas and knew Ron Kruger and the whole Kruger family. Said they are all just amazing athletes.

  • Oscar says:

From the Scout board by-way of the Ohio State board:

Rumblings: ND, UT, OU & KU to the B1G……Three Football pods of 6 teams……The TV Football contract split between NBC & FOX (Network channels) plus some football spillover to FS1 & BTN.

Emphasis on B1G Big matchups on Network Channels with big draw teams in prime time night & late afternoon.

NBCSN gets TV exclusive right to B1G Hockey games. (ESPN sports cable channels out).

    Football Pods:

    East: RU,Maryland, PSU, OSU,Michigan, Indiana

Midwest: ND, MSU, Purdue, NW, Illinois, Wisky

West: UT, OU, KU, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota

    • Dick Bump says:

      I’d go for that.

      • Oscar says:

That conference championship with 3 teams on the field would be unique! LOL

    • Zack says:

Notre dame wouldn’t go for that. And why would they want Kansas?

      • SamSooner says:

        Basketball

        • Oscar says:

          Also academics.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

          Perineal NC contender, at that.

        • Zack says:

Basketball doesn’t make up for how terrible they are at football. They don’t even have a full 85 scholarship’d players.

          • Stephen says:

Kansas basketball pulls a national audience in basketball. With that many blue-bloods holding down football, the absence of the Kansas football program is forgivable.

          • Zack says:

Taking Texas and notre dame (which neither has a chance of happening) would make up for Kansas but I think OU just needs to go on their own and not worry about who’s tagging along. I think they need to be in a conference that plays in Texas so if they could take Texas with them to the pac 12 that would be ideal.

          • Stephen says:

No, I totally agree with you. Oklahoma has enough to move without making a package deal with someone. I was just saying OU, ND, TX, tOSU, Mich all in one conference would allow them to take the Kansas for its bball. ND obviously won’t happen. Texas is basically toxic to any conference. SEC would allow them to play in Texas once a year. B1G we would need to take someone with us or make Texas an annual OOC game. PAC we would need more than just one central time zone team to make that viable, at least in my opinion.

          • Zack says:

That’s true. Basically the best move would be sec but I think the BIG is just as strong if OU joins and they would need Texas to keep the RRS regardless of conference affiliation.

    • SamSooner says:

That would only work with two nine-team divisions. Plus, the thorn in our craw, the fly in the ointment, the stink in Denmark is still the LHN. That issue has not been resolved. It would have to be dissolved.

    • Oscar says:

“Texas/Oklahoma could join the Pac 12. The Pac 12 may need those schools more than those schools need the Pac 12. But, it means more fancy parties and golfing in California. What is this whole college athletics racket about if not more fancy parties and golfing in California?” Haha. I’d love it.

      • Oscar says:

“The modeling Navigate Research provided for the Big 12 showed that there is a benefit for the Big 12 to grow to twelve, but that erodes at fourteen and sixteen. This means that the most valuable spots in college sports currently are numbers eleven and twelve in Big 12.

Growing beyond twelve begins to provide more issues than benefits, so once those slots are filled, the Big 12’s leverage is gone. Due to this Texas is joined by many of the pro-expansion voices within the Big 12 who are more interested in filling those two spots with larger names. Oklahoma still believes that Arkansas is one of them, even if informal talks have cooled as of late. Kansas wants Kentucky.

The Big 12 has also been contacted by other Power Five schools who are see a greater benefit of controlling their region as opposed to sharing time nationally on a conference network. The problem is most of those teams are also locked up in contracts or situations they cannot either break easily or need more financial incentive to drive change. With the priority being large brands near the Big 12’s current footprint, the topic has been broached on how possible financial incentive packages could be developed to entice potential candidates to make a move.”

That’s just him telling OU he really wants to be in Norman. But I think boulware is really looking at Davis over Hubbard.

      • hOUligan says:

The old ‘you snooze…you lose’. Hang onto Trey Sermon and stay on A J. If yOU miss on A J, Kennedy Brooks is a good looking back that IMHO looks like he could contribute.
