– Quartney Davis & Wide Receiver Recruiting: Last night the Sooners officially offered 2016 WR and former TAMU commit, Quartney Davis (Houston, TX). Davis set up an official visit to OU for the weekend of January 22nd-24th, and we are told he is one of three primary WR targets remaining for OU which include Davis, Velus Jones and UGA JUCO WR commit Javon Wims.
I spoke with someone familiar with Davis’ recruiting and it comes as no surprise that the Sooners have a “real chance” with Davis. The other schools Davis is considering are Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and UCLA. – (Super K)
– EJ Price: ESPN recently reported that 2016 OT EJ Price (Lawrenceville, GA) had narrowed his list to a Top 3 that included Oklahoma, Georgia & USC. Price,as you may recall, was scheduled to visit Norman this past season but the trip fell through.
We were initially told that visit would be rescheduled for this coming weekend (Jan. 15th). However, in talking to a source it sounds like that has yet to be finalized at this point. Although we are hoping to know more on that later this week.
In talking with some folks out in SEC territory, it certainly sounds like UGA is still the favorite to land Price. But I spoke to someone yesterday who knows Price yesterday, and this person said, “EJ is a good guy…but he’s a different type of guy…I would bet on UGA, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he surprised everyone and ended up at an Oklahoma or USC.” – (Super K)
– UPDATE (3:38 pm): Evidently Price has now finalized that Norman trip referenced above.
https://twitter.com/Ej_Price77/status/686662259758739456
– UPDATE (4:04 pm): It would appear the Sooners have offered the No. 1 JUCO player in this 2016 class, DE Jonathan Kongbo.

Sweet!!! Does anyone know how many WR’s positions are still available? Are we just waiting on one commit or do we have spots to accept all three?
Probably just one now.
I think we would take all 3 considering who they are and if not I’d say Davis has a scholly set aside if he commits considering OU was late to the game on him and not him being late on OU. Jones should have already committed.
I’d be surprised if OU took all 3. Maybe the first 1 or maybe 2 of the 3 to commit? Esp with the transfer taking a scholarship for this year.
EJ is one awesome looking athlete. What a great get that would be! Pull in him and Tramonda, and we would have an awesome OL class. Who wouldn’t want to come learn from BB?
EJ would get every tool he needs to be successful at the pro level, and more, if he were to choose OU. If he actually were to choose OU, all his dreams would come true.
the real usc or s carolina
so does a graduate transfer use up a scholarship?
Assuming we give him a scholarship, yes. In theory he could walk on, but that seems unlikely.
yes
thought so, thanks guys.
Unfortunately yes. I sure hope the coaches see something special in this kid as we;re down to a very few Schollies left.
Does it mean they aren’t sold on the younger guys stepping up?
I think that we’ll know more after signing day. Im sure the coaches have a pretty good idea of which WRs will be committing. My thinking is that they know that we wont be getteing both Jones and Davis but hopefully at least one of them. As for the younger kids stepping up or not, yes that could be part of it too.
I think OU has lots of talent at WR, for whatever reason none of the younger guys have stepped up enough for them to feel comfortable with the situation.
1 one to play 1? um no.
It’s possible that, if he doesn’t come until summer, there will be other schollies available. Someone almost always transfers/drops out at the end of the school year. If that is the case, we wouldn’t have to use a scholly allocated for NSD.
Don’t know anything about this PSU transfer. Is he a possession receiver, or can make things happen downfield?
http://www.gopsusports.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/geno_lewis_812670.html
His Sophomore numbers were pretty good. He and Franklin obviously did not get along. I bet the kids comes in and does very good for us.
If he can come in and do what Brown and Saunders did as transfers, I will be stoked. Wishing him the best.
don’t think he counts against the scholarship total………
Wrong yet again.
The Scholarship that Knight is giving up will be used. It will not count against this class. The kid is basically taking Knights place.
It still counts against the total, so SD is still wrong. There are two limits involved a 25 per class and the 85 total. There are so many loopholes in the per class limit that the only one that really matters is the total.
Exactly. We’re all aware that he is replacing Knight’s scholarship, in a round about way.

About the only way to keep Samaje off the field is to put him under anesthesia. Get well soon Samaje!
He had 103 and 2 touchdowns under anesthesia. He only had 55 and 1 with a spinal block.
LOL
I dated a gal named anesthesia once , we went out for about 2 weeks. She stopped calling me so i reached out to her and asked whats up?She said

I think Chris Daniels is taking a visit to UT out of respect for his dad’s relationship with the UT head coach. One has to respect that, even though next year may be his last if UT boosters have any say.

Translated “Watch live who will win the 2015 Gold Ball” (majored in French at OU) :-0
Off-topic, but has anyone noticed the Sooner Scoop crew has gotten a lot more chippy with people on Twitter? I’m guessing it’s becoming harder to sell information that has already been released for free.
I don’t even go to SS anymore. I use the 247 composite rankings for **** purposes, all my real info comes from the Braniacs
I’ve never had a subscription but follow them ok Twitter. They attack people who don’t share the same opinion because they have “Rivals” in their bio. I presented the stats between Lewis and Justin Brown to show why they aren’t the same and apparently I’m moronic. I’ve been here for 2 years now and I’ve never had a problem logically debating things.
I follow Eddie on twitter, he posts lots of videos.
Who?
I’ve never even been to Sooner Scoop. I don’t even know what it is.
They are playing catch up and losing market share quickly. Word has gotten out that if you want straight up Sooner talk you come to the Braniacs. They’ve gotta be freaking out.
Still #2 in the coaches poll even after losing to KU. Thought we would drop to 4th. Little surprised we got that much respect.
National people are starting to realize Buddy isn’t just a spot up 3 point shooter.
And Woodard, Cousins, and Spangler are all capable of scoring 20 if need be
I think most people realize that just coming close to KU in Lawrence proves you are pretty good. To take them to triple OT suggests that OU would have won on a neutral court. You can’t rate us ahead because we didn’t actually win the game, but we proved we were every bit as good as KU.
I agree with you, just didnt think the media would feel that way yet. Im glad i was wrong =)
This isn’t football. The B-12 is considered by many to be the best basketball conference these days. Half the conference is in the top 25.
True, but after last years collapse in march, figured the media would be a little harder on the big 12.
Think we are stronger as a conference than we were last year, but not quite as deep.
Not sure “why” your surprised. Every national media boosted that game as one of the best ever with two teams deserving of the 1 spot since OU was on the road. I’m glad Kruger got this type of exposure. Sooners are the real deal.
Because its SOP for teams to drop more than 1 spot when losing as #1.
UNC went from 1st to 9th with 1 loss. Kentucky dropped from 1 to 5. MSU dropped from 1 to 5, and was missing their star player.
As a non perennial powerhouse in basketball, i didnt think the media would give us the credit we are getting.
Im glad we got the respect we deserved, just a little surprised we didnt at least drop to 3, if not 4.
Not when you start the season beating a good Memphis team, Wisconsin and laying the pipe against current #11 ‘Nova as well as Iowa State. We haven’t been playing scrubs and the media knows that
MSU beat kansas, providence, louisville and florida, and still dropped from 1 to 5 with only 1 loss.
Like i said, im glad we are getting the love, it was a bit unexpected, since even powerhouses usually drop 4+ spots from even 1 loss.
Not smart enough to answer why, I get your point. But we were 1-2 going into the game. It’s realistic that they did not want to penalize a team that had taken the home Kansas team to 3OT
MSU lost to an unranked Iowa team, they should have dropped.
Guys generally don’t commit to a school and ultimately stick with their commitment if they don’t ever visit do they? I seem to recall a guy or two that have done that but it’s not common. So if a guy never visits (officially or unofficially) he’s probably not coming.
I’ve heard of a lot of guys visiting somewhere and changing there minds. I can’t remember a player committing without coming to campus, unless it was a really didn’t have any other choice kind of thing.
Just thinking…did Orlando Brown visit campus? Seems like he was a last minute surprise.
I think we had recruited him before. Not sure if he ever visited. Still that was kind of what I meant about no other choice. Tenn wanted him to gray shirt and he had been offered a scholly. We reached out and he took it.
Per Rivals Orlando visited OU and Tennessee
https://rivals.yahoo.com/oklahoma/football/recruiting/player-Orlando-Brown-123618
Striker?
According to this he took an official to OU.
http://espn.go.com/espn/print?id=7520796
My bad didnt recall him visiting maybe tito windam
There are probably some given the dumb things teenaged boys do. I just don’t remember any.
How about Orlando Brown? Did he ever visit OU since he was committed to Tennessee and then jumped to OU at the last minute when the Vols wanted him to grey shirt? His commitment literally came out of left field.
Didn’t see Big Joe Brown’s post about this below. My bad.
Yep very unlikely if he doesn’t visit. Unlikely anyways. But OU needs guys like EJ to start dominating the LoS on offense.
The FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015 goes to..—>http://goo.gl/lTvjjE
I still don’t see any way we’d take Davis, Jones, Lewis, and maybe even Wims if we aren’t losing a WR that is currently on campus. Lots of options for a potential transfer.
The FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015 goes to…—>http://goo.gl/lTvjjE
Because Riley said when he got here he wants an 8 WR rotation.
The FIFA Ballon d’Or 2015 goes to..–>http://goo.gl/lTvjjE
Wims is my favorite. He looks like he could come in and play and would give us a target like osu, tcu, bay regularly field. good height, good size, speed(?)–Idk. I thought he was off the board.
Lewis prob got his spot today unless we won’t take Parker anymore..Im still thinking Green will become that physical guy for us
or hardy perhaps? I’d like guys who are most apt to come in and contribute next year over guys we have to develop at this time. I think there’ll be time to get HS guys to develop from now on, but I like the looks of lewis, wims, westbrooke, baxter. And I like the look of Ryan Parker too, along w/Davis and jones. the cream goes to the top, and let them duke it out
Yeah Hardy too. He’s hs right…Parker could have been in danger of losing his spot since he didn’t grad in december. i assume Hardy is still coming. He’s an Ath right…maybe they look at both sides with him…I have know idea…to be a fly in Cale and Lincolns caprice
Don’t forget about Andrews. I think he really does break out this coming season. This year was a good step and now it is time to cash it all in.
Does WR Geno Lewis coming in take up a scholarship that could’ve been used for Velus, Quartney, or Wims? I’d prefer OU to just take Lewis and no other WR’s, because the state of TX has a deep 2017 WR class.
And man if OU could pull in EJ Price that’d be amazing. I think he’ll be a great LT in college. Anything is possible if he takes that OV
https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/686652522295988224
Proud of Austin and thankful he’s a Sooner.
Striker, bond and sanchez didnt get combine invites? WTF!!
edit: striker got one, at least.
it just wasn’t BREAKING yet 😉
Little surprised nila got one, didnt know he had much shot at the next level.
They don’t have a full list for another couple weeks
Ill be pretty disappointed if bond, sanchez and dom dont get invites. Hope thats not the case. Guess we will see.
Sanchez isn’t a first day guy.
Sanchez is at best a 4th rounder, I doubt he gets one. Undersized DB’s without elite speed usually don’t get drafted very high
Nila got one though, and i didnt even think he was draftable. Worse than the 4th round lol.
Nila wow! Yeah I didnt think he was a draft guy either. Figured he was a FA that busted his tail and made the practice squad for a year or two before sticking on a 53 man roster
Ya my thoughts exactly lol. I mean, i sure hope he gets drafted, just dont really expect him to.
Yep
If Chris Chester can play in the league all those years then it’s possible
I don’t know enough to predict what round, but it wouldn’t surprise me if he (Sanchez) went much lower than most people figure. I just don’t see him fitting in the NFL at his size. Somebody will give him a shot, but I think it’ll be later than the 3/4 rounds.
Only surprise to me is Striker
I made an edit, striker got an invite.
Tells you what the NFL thinks about there ability to make the league.

This is good news–Captain Obvious
Outstanding! Excellent talent, sounds like a good kid as well.
Wow! Tebow and Meyer are on gameday. Tebow said they prepared the entire bowl prep for us to run a 4 down DL and we’re shocked that we came out with 3 down linemen and multiple blitzes completely caught them off guard. We still lost. Smh.
We lost because we didn’t score on two first half trips inside the 10 yard line.
Getting those two in and we’re up 21-7 at the half and Timmy-boy has to run a different offense in the second half.
Our own fault.
Just thought it interesting that they prepped 42 days for a different defense. You’re right, we went awol on offense pretty much like we have in EVERY big bowl since ’03.
Didn’t have DeMarco. Big difference. The 3-4 I think it was was sweet. Mike can really mix it up with that. I’m disappointed that we didn’t have any surprises for Clemson on either side of the ball.
Yep. DeMarco was to OU what Harvin was to Florida, and then some. Without him OU struggled in the redzone, and at the goal line.
The Price is Right!
C’mon down EJ, you’re the next great OL at Oklahoma!
Great news about EJ Price visiting!
Kongbo just tweeted he received an offer from OU.

Grab it Buddy! ! ! ! (before it’s too late)

Excellent!
First move Kyler Murray needs to make as a Sooner is to do one hell of a recruiting job on Price! To go along with the coaches of course!
Howabout WR Davis as well. He’s a former TAMU commit.
Kyler needs to work on his buddy from Allen, Greg Little.
That is who I meant but just lost my mind for a minute!
With Kyler playing in a couple years, If he doesn’t win the starter job, why don’t we put his talent to use. Add in a little wishbone look with him as QB for about 10 or so plays a game to really change it up. Talk about messing with a DC, running an Air Raid with some Wishbone would be the most diverse and imaginative offense there is.
EJ Price:
Step 1: Get him on campus. (Looks like a check)
Step 2: Show him the work on the sweet new diggs he’ll be playing in.
Step 3: Highlight Sooners’ NFL O-line successes.
Step 4: Show Clemson game tape to show need to blow people off the line.
Step 5: Emphasize who he will be blocking for.
How can he not commit? Hope we hand him!

Do we know at which position he’s being asked to walk-on? I’m thinking LB since we’re sitting pretty at RB.
Honorable mention Tulsa World All Metro

Best athlete on a bad team. I didn’t see any of the “better” opponents in that highlight reel. I’ve seen him play and he stands out but has no help around him.
thought ‘bring the wood’ was history
Dalton brought it back
Hes got a kansas offer, dunno why he wouldnt take the full ride. But hey, ill take some free depth =)
Because…. Kansas. Also, PWO means they usually get a guaranteed spot in a year, but if you’re a fb player with aspirations, OUs brand (think nfl pro day) blows Kansas’ to smithereens. I see it as a kid that wants to compete and I love that
Thinking more along the lines of money. College these days is insanely expensive. Cant be easy to turn down 4 years of free school.
If hes got aspirations of playing ball beyond college, OU is the obvious choice for him. Just kinda doubt that, since he is a 0 star lol.
Unless he’s from a rich family there is all sorts of financial aid available
No guarantee you get it though, unless you go the loan route, which i cant recommend to anybody.
Havent been at OU since 97, STILL paying off my student loans.
Im sure the coaches know where to lead them. Mixon lost his scholly last year but I doubt he paid his tuition. If your minority Im sure there is something there as well
He’d be walking on for 1 year max (normal OU PWO process) He’s also in-state meaning possible eligibility for scholarships so he may not be all that badly off. But my main point is that OU as a football brand offers the recruits far more visibility than Kansas. There’s a reason we get 27 NFL teams on OU pro-day. The 1 year hit may be worth it if he’s to get that visibility and gets a chance at that education and play big boy football right at home
Would make a good safety.
PowerBall Winner… $1.3 billion
Tickets for Four at a Warren Theatre… $72.00 (not including drinks)
Boomerang Car Wash… $16.00
EJ commits to Oklahoma… Priceless!
You are confused. If EJ commits to OU, we won’t be “Priceless” … we would be “Price-full”
are you from Shreveport?
I heard yesterday that even if Tramadous commits to where he is going, he will unfortunately have some work to do in the classroom which could put his eligibility/admission in jeopardy, depending on what school he chooses.
Read the same thing. Bama’s hanging in there so maybe he’s close to qualifying.
Possible, he has visited OU alot but I think he wants to go out of state to play. Still hoping though.
Me too.
U just broke my heart. I don’t read everything but all I have read lately had him leaning our way. Would absolutely suck to lose in state kid like this out of state.
Any info on Cobb and him taking visits?
Where did you read this?
This doesn’t surprise me. Probably a&m. But I think Cobb is solid. I think we need to leave mayden alone and make sure we keep Cobb solid. More upside in Cobb.
Kongbo reminds me a bit of Tapper.
