Open Post | Weekend, Sept. 12th – 14th (UPDATED Sun., 1:57 am)

Happy Friday y’all!

Weekend Visitors: There are a lot of big name recruits heading to Norman this weekend for the Oklahoma vs. Tennessee game. We’ve had a running list that we’ve been compiling over on The Original Posters. In case you missed it, you can see it HERE.

I know a number of you have asked whether OU could land any commits this weekend. It’s difficult to say but we certainly wouldn’t put it past Jamal Danley to commit this weekend or shortly after the visit. As we understand it, he was very close to committing a few weeks back. OU has been sitting in a good spot with Khalil Haughton as well and if it weren’t for his desire to take other officials, he’d be someone who could pull the trigger. We’ll also be watching what happens with Justin Reid. Reid confirmed his visit just this week, but he’d been wanting to come for a while. However, his father had a scheduling conflict that was apparently cleared allowing them to now make the trip to Norman.

With all the big name recruits this weekend, it’s not as much about securing a bunch of commits (though that would obviously be nice) as much as it is about putting OU in the position to eventually land some of these players. In other words, just because OU doesn’t land one or two commits won’t mean that the weekend was unsuccessful.

Gabriel Campbell and Torrance Gibson: As most of you know by now DE Gabriel Campbell and QB Torrance Gibson were both planning on making it to Norman this weekend for the game. However, both have not completed all the necessary academic requirements in order to take *official visits (*important distinction as both have taken some unofficials). However, both are in the process of getting that taken care of. We have chatted with both players, and each have said they absolutely still plan on making it out to OU for a visit.

Antoine Stephens: A name you haven’t heard, but one you’re going to want to remember is 2015 cornerback, Antoine Stephens. With PJ Mbanasor committed, OU has been hoping to find one more big corner and they may have just found him. Stephens is a 6’2 186 lb CB out of Kimball High School in Dallas that not many folks know about yet, but they will soon. We’ve been told that OU is beginning to show interest.

Unfortunately, Antoine’s film isn’t publicly viewable yet (some coaches keep their Hudl account on private). But I (K) had a chance to look his film, and in my opinion he is an absolute sleeper! Very long and VERY physical cornerback who can turn and run. What I really love about him though is he’s very instinctive in zone coverage. Beyond all the footwork, good bend, balance speed, size, etc. is one quality that stands above all the others and that is play-making ability. In my mind, an example of something you see from a play-maker is when a corner is in Cover-2 and able to quickly read the QBs eyes, understand his underneath responsibility, then get deeper in a zone and pick off a pass intended for a receiver in someone else’s zone. Two or three games into the season and Stephens has already done it twice!

We’ll have more on Stephens later, but we wanted to introduce y’all to this big, athletic CB from the Dallas area. Again, we’ve been told that OU has already begun to show interest in Stephens. So you can expect to hear more about him as the season continues and his film starts to get out.

Madre Harper: Keeping with the theme of the big corner, how about a CB who is nearly 6’3″? We caught up with 2016 CB Madre Harper out of Arlington, TX this week. He let us know that he was invited to the Tennessee game and will be heading to Norman for an unofficial visit this weekend. It appears this isn’t just your casual invite as Madre tells us that DC Mike Stoops has been recruiting him personally.

Channing Hames: Want another new 2015 name? Look no further than defensive end Channing Hames out of Baltimore, Maryland. We chatted with Hames this week, and he said that he’s been communicating regularly with coach Jerry Montgomery. Hames doesn’t have an offer yet, but he has a lot of interest in Oklahoma. The 6’4″ defender does have a few offers (WVU, Boston College, etc.), but told us he would really like to take an official visit to OU. He also said that with an offer, OU would possibly jump right to the top of his list.

With OU recruiting Gabriel Campbell, Neville Gallimore, more recently Joseph Wicker (mentioned him in last weekend’s Open Post) and with two defensive ends already committed, Hames will likely have to wait on an offer. But he is a long, athletic defensive end with girth the Sooners love to recruit for their odd front. OU is in a good spot for the current DEs they are recruiting, but it’s clear Coach Montgomery isn’t sitting around waiting…he’s going to continue to recruit.

OU has a connection through Hames in that his head coach, Corey Robinson, is also the coach who really brought Charles Tapper into the football world. Hames’ teammate, 2016 stud DE Rahshaun Smith, will be in Norman this weekend.

Takkarist McKinley: One defensive end target that went off the board yesterday is JUCO DE/OLB, Takkarist McKinley. He had planned on taking an official visit out to Oklahoma for Bedlam, but to his surprise he was actually able to sign and be eligible/play immediately. Yesterday, he signed with UCLA and has told us that he will head over to campus next Tuesday with the expectation that he’ll play this year.

Ed Oliver vs. Tyler Moore: I (K) caught some of the North Shore vs. Westfield game and there was a heck of a match-up in the trenches between two OU targets; 2016 DL Ed Oliver and former OU target 2015 OL Tyler Moore. Really like both of those players. Ed Oliver is very, very high on Oklahoma’s 2016 board and you can absolutely see why. He’s got great quickness, plays with good pad level, and has surprisingly violent hands for a kid that young. What does all that mean? Well, it means he’s a very disruptive player.

He and Moore went back-and-forth and it was fantastic to watch. Oliver’s primary weakness at this point is that he can’t quite finish the play, but I suspect that will come with time. On three straight plays he had his hands on the ball carrier and didn’t bring him down. So tackling drills should fix that, but he is a little sawed off and doesn’t necessarily have the length you’d like. However, his explosiveness and motor more than make up for any length deficiencies. I mean the kid absolutely has a non-stop motor. It’s so refreshing to watch a player go hard throughout a play and throughout the game.

– UPDATE (Fri., 10:24 am): Add another visitor to the list of recruits expected this weekend, 2015 LB & OU offer Anthony McKee.

We had previously been told that McKee wouldn’t be in Norman this weekend, but this would obviously appear to contradict that. And the list keeps on growing.

– UPDATE (Fri., 11:37 am): K just spoke with Ykili Ross’ father and unfortunately they won’t be able to make it in this weekend. Updated visitor list.

UPDATE (Sat., 7:30 am): Our newest contributor Alex King got a chance to see OU targets QB Shane Buechele and CB Madre Harper. He really liked what he saw from both. Here is a tweet from Alex about Madre Harper:

Harper will be at OU today with both his parents and Alex tells us that Harper will visit LSU later in the month. But apparently OU is recruiting Harper the heaviest.

UPDATE (Sat., 7:30 am): While it seems there might have been a good chance of Jamal Danley committing on this trip, those chances may have gone down a bit. Due to some confusion, Danley’s father was not able to make the trip with him as originally expected. We don’t know how big of an effect that will have on Danley’s decision but we thought it was at least noteworthy.

UPDATE (Sat., 3:14 pm): Sorry we’re a little late on this, a lot of us are traveling today. But as most of you have seen by now, Will Sunderland has committed to Oklahoma. You’ll recall our quote regarding Sunderland back on July 14th when we said (HERE),”The only way Will Sunderland won’t be a Sooner come signing day is if OU decides they want to go another direction.  And we don’t see that happening. Just take our word for it, this one is a wrap.”

UPDATE (Sat., 3:40 pm): Big Jamal Danley sent us this picture of him in the Crimson and Cream. We’re keeping an eye on Danley!

UPDATE (Sat., 1:57 am): Jamal Danley commits to Oklahoma! That makes two this weekend!

How can someone jump into the semester in Week 3?

      • Jed says:

Kind of interesting commentary on UCLA athletes’ academics, no?

      • Cush Creekmont says:

UCLA is on a qtr system and may not have started school (not football, but classes)

        • vargo05 says:

I believe this is kind of typical for other west coast schools. Can’t remember if it was Oregon or who I was watching last week and they talked about school not starting there until Sept 29th.

      • ComancheJoe says:

What Cush said is true. The California University system is on the quarter schedule except for Berkeley and the California State system is on the semester schedule except for the Polytechnics.

    • Boom says:

Oklahoman said Josh Wariboko will be at the game too.

      • hOUligan says:

Any confirmation on this? Had heard he was headed to UCLA vs whorns. Prolly not this weekend but just have a feeling DeBerry is going to be a Sooner.

    • Kevin Moore says:

What an incredible list! How about putting the percentage chance you believe they ultimately choose OU by their name?

    • ComancheJoe says:

I’m glad to see Lucier-Smith is going to make it out for this game. Question for you: If I attend an Orange Lutheran game and play “Boomer Sooner” on my trombone, every time Keisean makes a big play, will that be a recruiting violation?

    • BozemanSooner says:

Wow! that’s great news on Shake.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Lon Kruger steppin’ it up….I will say, Lon Kruger is a great coach and very personable. I got to meet him at a golf tournament it wasn’t OU related, but the guy was really nice and didn’t mind people coming up to him and talking.

      • Jordan Esco says:

Can’t believe I was ever against the hire. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Love the guy. Great coach, better person.

        • Sonny says:

Shocked you were not on board with the Kruger hire. Was it because he isn’t known for bringing in the big time players?

          • Boom says:

With the program in dire straights, I thought it was a great hire as he is one of the re-building coaches. They really couldn’t attract some of the big names but interesting how all the big names respect Kruger

          • Jordan Esco says:

            In part, yes

        • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah I was worried up front as well. But if this guy wasn’t a great basketball coach he would be a heck of a Politician. Personable, Diplomatic, Very Intelligent, Great Ambassador. I think Joe C. hit a homerun AGAIN! Looking forward to Basketball season as well!

      • Indy_sooner says:

He does a lot of golf. I read up on his role in the coaches for cancer golf challenge. Great character and solid hire for us. No surprise that he gets solid recruits to listen

      • SoonerfanTU says:

I ran into on the Fair grounds at the OU/ut game, shortly after he was hired. Stopped and talked to me for a minute. SUPER nice guy. Great higher by Joe C.

    • Sooner_Ace says:

Also of note Kruger was once the Illini coach ( I live in Champaign,IL home of the Illini) would be great to see Shake in in Crimson and Cream as opposed to Orange and Blue.

    • Cory Reedy says:

I don’t care if the kid can ball or not…I want him just because of the name “Shake”. (and yes, I know he can ABSOLUTELY ball)

  • So…we have a grand total of TWO 2015 Linebackers visiting for the Tennessee game? WOW…our greatest position of need and we have TWO guys coming in? And one of them is a MAYBE (Wheeler???) What the hell man!

By the way, Thanks for the Open Post and thank Jordan, for your post below.

    • Zack says:

I counted 3 guys excluding wheeler. KLS, deberry and peat.

      • Oops…totally looked over those names. Ok, that makes me feel better. I’ve heard that Peat is pretty raw. Don’t know how he would do as a linebacker. Either way, we need bodies BAD! But we can’t afford to have just “bodies” back there like a Brandon Crow (hate to use this as an example). We got to get guys that can really play.

      • cpearc00 says:

Add one more to the list with McKee. I just hope we can pull in one of these guys.

      • hOUligan says:

Any news on 2 guys OU has been looking at, Jordan Griffin from Armwood and Khaylan Thomas, who has an OU offer. Have heard very good things from SpecK and others on both. Would seem to be good options.

    • wolfbuilder says:

U r right but its not just backers, its insidebackers and we need them now KLS and Peat olbs

      • Stats says:

TFB, how ’bout an article some time on the depth (after the 2 deep) & recruiting(’15 & ’16) of the ILB position.

The good news is that (with Shannon out) our 2 ILB starters are both Sophomores, so we have some time on replacing them. We have some depth with Franklin (Sr.) & Gastelum (Jr.), but’s what’s after that?

  • Cole says:

I seen Wheeler is going to be at ucla Texas game.

    • Brian says:

I’ve heard transportation is tough for Wheeler. He wanted to make it up to OU this weekend, but that Arlington trip is a lot easier.

  • AMKing00 says:

FYI: I will be heading out to see Madre Harper, 2016 CB that K mentioned above tonight. Also get to see 2016 QB offer, Shane Buechele and other prospects as well.

  • D'Brickashaw Ferguson says:

Me this weekend knowing OU’s got a primetime game, SEC opponent, 30+ recruits (16 4 or 5*), and it’s a statement game for our playoff chances…

    Anthony McKee update added

  • Fear The Magic says:

We need to get Adrian Peterson, the Boz and the Cali trio to come in to Norman this weekend to help recruit these kids….wth..they cant be THAT busy!

  • Tyler says:

Out of all the prospects coming in this week, surely we get a commit soon. I would love to see a LB or DB like Haughton

  • Mr. Jones says:

    Any confirmation on Wheeler yet?

    • Jordan Esco says:

      still working it

      • Gary Robbins says:

This week-end is setting up very nice whether OU gets a commit or not.
No OU lb commits but 4 on campus.
No actual Safety commits but 3 on campus.
        3 or 4 2016 qb’s on campus.
If Jamal Danley was to pull the trigger that would be 5 off. lineman. Would OU take both Barnett and Wariboko?
A very, very talented dl in Neville Gallimore who seems to have a genuine interest in the Sooners.
A top rated cb (Kendall Sheffield) in town for a friendly unofficial.
A bunch of OU’s top commits on hand to help recruit.
And the list goes on and on.

        • Zack says:

What I want to see is if Sunderland is ready to go public with his commitment and start recruiting for ou. If not that’s ok but I want one of these big name guys to say ou is where I’m going and I’m bringing guys with me.

I don’t think they take wariboko if they’re at 5 guys and holding the 6th for Barnett. If wariboko wants to go to ou he’s probably going to have to wait until NSD to see if someone drops off our commitment list.

  • Jordan Esco says:

    Ykili Ross update added

    • Mark slavin says:

      Why let him visit?

      • Jordan Esco says:

I wouldn’t. But I’m not on the OU staff.

        • Brent says:

Why not? You think he would recruit against us with some of the guys?

          • Mark slavin says:

He could recruit for Georgia.I agree recruit them to the end but when he goes on Twitter like that I say move on to someone else this weekend is to big if nothing else tell him to wait and see what happens.

          • j l says:

I dont think we are in any competition with georgia for any of the kids coming in this weekend, so allen couldnt really do any damage to us.

He probably wont get much, if any attention from the coaches.

          • Jordan Esco says:

No. Well, I suppose anything is possible but I doubt it. But if a kid is open that there’s no chance he’s flipping, then why waste your time when it could be better served elsewhere? But again, I’m not a coach. And even as a fan, it’s nothing personal. If I were him I’d want to take trips as well, so more power to him if schools allow him to visit.

          • Boom says:

They are 17/18, kids change their mind. He has a good school lined up but if he has a change of heart, then the only way this happens is if he shows up to see what OU is all about. Welcome mat out, if he choses elsewhere then best of luck. He wouldn’t be here if Coach B didn’t ask and they tells me all I need to know.

      • Swanny says:

You gotta have confidence in your program, facilities, and abilities as a coach. Every coach feels like, if I can get them here I can get them to come here.

        • Mark slavin says:

I agree Swanny but when kid pretty much just wants his free trip’s (Which who could blame him) I would think coaches would move on to someone else.

          • Stats says:

I say let him visit, you never know what might happen in the next 5 months (or later). Look at guys that we flipped late (Orlando Brown) or picked up (DGB) due to unforeseen circumstances.

          • Mark slavin says:

I guess we will see I hope the coaches work some magic on him.

        • Cush Creekmont says:

One never knows what may transpire down-the-road. Perhaps he gets disillusioned at his chosen school and a younger guy asks him about his recruiting – a good time at OU might help there. That said, I would spend more time with the guys that expressed interest in OU.

          • Swanny says:

Travis Lewis comes to mind, he was a hard commit to Nebraska. Trevor was committed to A&M. You just got to get them here. Plus, you want to be that destination for the top players in the nation.

  • Boom says:

Send the invite to Madre Harper and get him in the mix

  • Isaac Wright says:

That moment when you come back from lunch and see 2 more updates… YAY

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Great to see new names popping up in recruiting, especially big corners.

  • Indy_sooner says:

In a strange turn, I’ll be deep in Austin for this game. Over / under on the looks I’ll get when I ask to turn the big screen to my boys? Hope ucla throttled them so bad that Texas turns crimson in rage

    • EasTex says:

Depends on where you are, in the city or the burbs.
You get up around Round Rock, Cedar Park, Leander and Pflugerville they might let you watch it until aggies come on an hour later.

      • Indy_sooner says:

I can make my way up to the Cedar park area. Thanks for the pointer!
I’ll push it either way just for sh*ts .

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Personally, I’d rather Texas win than UCLA, but I suppose it’s a win/win for OU fans either way.

    • Jared Tyra says:

In another strange turn, I’m going to school in Austin (Concordia) for a semester or two, so I’ll be in Austin to enjoy the sooners from afar every weekend while simultaneously enjoying the misery of the horns up close. Bittersweet, still a treat!

    • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, that was funny. At least one guy blocked a defender… i thought the right tackle and the center were going to pull a Florida there.

    • Boomer4life says:

This video is sooooo freakin awesome! @ one point two lineman block each other. Lmao!!!!

    • Bob Edwards says:

You know if that were in a move you would think it was fake, it was so bad.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

#66 is the only one who seems to know what the hell’s going on! This is worse than the two FLA linemen blocking each other, because that is also represented, as well as some spectacular technique!

      • 22dupree says:

I love #74. He got that “man, this is gonna look bad on film if I don’t engage somebody, so I’ll do this” contact at the end of the play. Classic. And for our o-line experts, it’s not really possible to get this corrected by October 11 is it? Please say hell no! 🙂

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

HAHA! I noticed that too! These guys are hopeless…looks like the first of Little Giants….

          • 22dupree says:

Coach Strong should have been miked up so we could hear him break into a chorus of “My Old Kentucky Home” after that play. That Texas green isn’t always greener.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

I think it’s hilarious, for the shortwhorn community, but I feel for Charlie Strong…kinda…maybe it’s because he hasn’t been there long enough for me to see him as an enemy yet…

          • 22dupree says:

Agree about Coach Strong. He’s been a colleague of Bob’s and he’s not said/done anything necessarily anti-OU … yet. He looks like he’s trying to build that program from the ground up and so I have a little (special emphasis on “little”) empathy for him. But I’ll have none on October 11 and I’m sure our players won’t either. 🙂

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

            Totally agree.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t have any sympathy for him.
There is no excuse…EVAH…for your O-line to be that unprepared for live action.
There is no excuse…EVAH…for taking a job without knowing how dysfunctional the university, the student body and city are, thinking that some how he could change it. It’s like some hybristophiiac saying “my love can change him.”
I also have no sympathy because I know they won’t always be this mock worthy and may present a challenge in the future. I won’t them to embrace and wallow in their suckatude as long as possible.

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

      This is the “Wickline effect”…AHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!

    • hOUligan says:

And to think, some guys on another site were going on about how OU should have grabbed Wickline when they had the chance. Bwahahaha.

  • Caleb Miller says:

2016 F Krisitan Doolittle from Edmond Memorial will be there also.

  • Chandler Welch says:

kendall Sheffield is big time.. hope we can make an impression

    • Daddy R says:

I could somewhat understand the argument for switching on the rear, but on the kids thigh? Doesn’t look so good for AD. Man this is shocking..

      • Zack says:

Just gonna throw this out there but if the allegations are true and he hit the kid 12 times then I think you really should question what substances he is using. I’m not trying to make a joke or a wild accusation, he is my favorite player. But as mad as you are you cannot spank a kid more than once it defeats the purpose.

        • Daddy R says:

Yea, AD is certainly high on my list. Has always appeared really respectful, with a dynamic, and POSITIVE attitude. But, well, I’m not sure right now actually.. this is just strange.

depends on the kid, i think. if i knew i was only gonna get one, i’d probly have done whatever i wanted and not worried about getting only one. but, obviously can’t overdo it, and can’t do it while you are still angry. i think you have to cool off at least somewhat

      • Zack says:

Also i think the league will suspend him for the remainder of the season and the Vikings will probably do the same thing the ravens did and void the contract. So the happiest man in football today? Jerry jones

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

      🙁 is it Saturday yet?

    • ToatsMcGoats says:

Seriously…when I was a kid, not only did I get “switched”, but my mom made me go out and get the switch myself. I’m not condoning the action, and I don’t use this method (or any method that involves beating my child), but I wonder how many others are doing this exact same thing?

      • hOUligan says:

My Granny did the exact same thing. And it had better be a GOOD switch. Then she would go after my calves with it. Stung like the dickens!! It’s a southern thing and likely done to him. Not saying it’s right, just saying it did me no harm and maybe some good.

        • ToatsMcGoats says:

Yup. I used to bring back the thick ones…then my mom would smile, and go out and pick a good one, then I’d get it twice as bad!

          • EasTex says:

My grand mother(the sweetest, kindest woman to have ever lived) had to be really pushed to whip us, so when she told me to go to the weeping willow and bring a “switch” I knew I had messed up big time. One time my brother and I both were going to get it and we broke the switch in several places so it wouldn’t be so rigid. She figured that out with a few test swings and it really made her mad. She went and got the tree trunk for us.
My Dad? He just made us lay on the bed and took after our backs with a one inch wide leather belt. He would wail on us for a while until our screams could be heard all over the neighborhood. As time went by and I was about 13 I refused to make a sound. He would lash even harder, still not a peep. Finally he was exhausted and out of breath and frustrated. He stopped and I looked him in the eyes with defiance and he never once attempted to lay a hand on me again.
Not saying it is right to punish children with lashes of any kind, I didn’t with my girls and never considered it, but there was a time when it was a common practice.
I will always appreciate AD for his contributions as a great Sooner, but this isn’t the first instance where I have been disappointed in the way he conducts his personal life.

          • ToatsMcGoats says:

Sadly, I’m with you on the disappointments…

          • leatherneck1061 says:

I have to agree, he hasn’t always been a model example. But I think he’s still learning and growing himself, and he’s still a long, long way from anything like Ray Rice.

          • Daddy R says:

I truly mean no offense here, and am just stating my point of view. but these comments are all about “used to” stuff.

It “used to” be okay to do ALOT of things that are no longer considered acceptable in society (i.e. spousal abuse, segregation, slavery, whippings, public hangings, throwing feces and urine out of windows and onto streets, doctors not washing hands before surgery, etc….the list could continue endlessly).

Those that would like to say, “well this happened to me, and I’m fine,” you may very well be right, and you probably are fine; but that doesn’t mean you weren’t physically abused as a child (by today’s standards); it was just WAY more accepted by society at the time to treat people as property, including children, and discipline however one saw fit, including whippings and switchings.

It’s not so much that way today. Hell, even those of you that said you received similar forms of punishment as a child, are also saying in same breath, but I don’t condone this action, and I would NEVER have done that to my child…

Now, I’m not an anti-spanking advocate, and I’m certainly not a “know-it-all” parent that likes to get into others’ business, I have my own parenting issues. But abuse is abuse. I too was spanked as a child with a paddle, belt, razor strap, hand, and even a switch a time or two… I believe spanking has its benefits, and have even used it as a disciplinary tool with my own children at times, but I will never understand the mindset of an adult that could use any type of “tool” whatsoever to hit a child, and regardless how we justify spanking (even from myself with just palm of hand), it is hitting, and could possibly teach children that hitting is a means to solve issues.

But I digress, sorry for the spiel…

I’m really just disappointed another Sooner is in the limelight for negative reasons, and happens to be one that the majority of us looked up to to some degree… a little baffled still.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

Right there with ya. And yes, it’s the thin switches that really stung the most. Today it seems almost any type of corporal punishment has folks in a tizzy. When we hear stories like this, it sounds bad. But on the whole I don’t see it as barbaric the way they try to make out. Some folks just take it too far.

  • Drew says:

Well, on a happier note, Baylor is looking pretty vulnerable so far. Ignore the score, Baylor’s simply getting away with poor (not sloppy) play. They’re playing Buffalo, so they don’t have to pay for their lapses, but both their O and D are making me hungry.

    • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Yup, watching that game, as well. All I can think is how much I want us to hang half a hundred on them.

    • EasTex says:

Thanks for the report, I can’t watch them. Maybe when they play some one with a pulse in about 3 weeks, I will be able to.

      • Drew says:

Overall, their offense is looking fairly average if you ignore the big plays. The 3 man front is doing a good job stuffing their run, even if they can’t get a lick of a pass rush. On defense, they’re getting break after break. B/c it’s Buffalo playing them, they might as well be playing high schoolers.

    • boomersooner says:

wow. that wasn’t just a 1 time scheduled game. they went out and scheduled a home and home with buffalo. too bad they couldn’t borrow fred jackson, cj spiller, marcell darius and mario williams

      • EasTex says:

As pathetic as Baylor’s OOC is, TAMU’s OOC exceeds audience comprehension.
Why those two are in the top ten is a travesty, especially if UGA destroys SC today.

        • boomersooner says:

i can’t wait to see the committee’s first poll. i hope its light years away from the crap everybody else is putting out there. when you take a team like notre dame and they go from unranked to 11th in 2 wks shows you how bad you are at polling, or a&m winning one game by 700 shows that maybe you still suck at polling and may have overrated one of those teams, but instead you stick to your guns and look what you did to the sec, except when we play an sec team..then its yeah but…

    • Cory Reedy says:

That Baylor game was like a 7-on-7 game. Absolutely no pressure on Petty as he got to sit in a clean pocket a wait for his WR’s to get open.

      • Drew says:

Rather, Baylor wishes it was 7 on 7. Their running game was repeatedly getting stuffed, while Buffalo was getting some really nice runs on them. As a fan of the good guys, I was really happy about that game.

  • JJsooner1 says:

To date, Baylor looks very average and has some gaping weaknesses on defense. Is that really them or are they bored?
I truly hope this issue with Adrian is resolved for the best for all concerned. Sad…….
I absolutely love our chances with Tennessee…………
I’m gonna go out on a limb and predict that 4 of the vistors will at some point end up in God’s country………Norman:-)

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

Fox Sports analyst just referred to OU as the “Rodney Dangerfield” of college football because the “get no respect”! LOL!

    On fighting Dangerfields!

  • drew says:

Still holding out hope for our new uniforms tonight #bringthewood

  • Defend Colfax says:

If we do bust out the new uni’s (which it looks like we will) I hope we play like there are Sooners in them. Unlike the last 2 times.

  • EasTex says:

Man, it was a night for upsets in Texas high school football.
#2 Katy lost to The Woodlands, #3 Cedar Hill lost to #10 Dallas Skyline, and #1 John Tyler lost to Tyler Lee. There were some other losses by top ten teams state wide, but those are most notable.

  • Daddy R says:

    Ladies and Gents,
    ITS FOOTBALL DAY!!!

    BOOMER!

  • Drew says:

Hey, thought you all would appreciate this. ESPN just ran a poll among FBS coaches on whom they’d want a son of theirs to play for the most, and Stoops tied for first.

  • boomersooner says:

i can’t wait for the excuses…”well, maryland’s big 10…tenn hasn’t been good and are young…ucla almost lost to memphis…ark has never done anything, bottom tier…iowa big 10…duke’s a basketball school…minn’s big 10″. i can’t really root for conference mates but this 1 way street thing needs to change and hopefully perceptions will start to change this week

  • Krys Allen says:

I like that WVU is putting it Maryland. Hope B12 goes 8-0 out of conference today!

  • boomersooner says:

ticker on overrated network says “switch or small tree branch”, cause those sound close to the same thing

    • JT says:

If only everyone over 30 had camera phones as kids. Prisons would be full of parents and grandparents, and Rufio would rule the free world.

[Judd Nelson fist in the air].

  • Zack says:

So Sunderland committed? I’m not shocked but I didn’t think he would announce this until January but glad now he can help recruit

  • Ronald Keith says:

Scout is reporting that Will Sunderland has committed. A great start to big weekend for us

  • Sunderland to OU!!!

  • Stephen says:

Sunderland is in! It will be interesting to see if this triggers anymore commitments this weekend.

    • Daddy R says:

My conspiracy side says this is what he was planning all along… mwwhhaahaha. Okay, someone (me) is excited for the game!

    • boomersoonerlife says:

Makes me wonder if coaches asked him to wait until this weekend to commit to see if they could start a chain reaction of commits.

    • JJsooner1 says:

Hope I don’t get kicked off for this, but can I get A……….

  • Cory Reedy says:

SAWEEEETTT!!!!!!!!! Gonna be a HUGE weekend for the Sooners.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Sunderland is great news even though not breaking news. I hope to get some totally shocking news today.

  • Daddy R says:

Too bad West VA and Maryland aren’t on abc instead of Ohio st and kent state. Kent state, really? thats worthy of a primetime slot right there..

    W. VA 37 Maryland 37 currently..

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Hope we haul in some big fish tonight!

  • Cory Reedy says:

Ahem…OU is 12-0 vs SEC teams since 1999. Just saw that on CBS…eye opener.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Watching the WVU game on the Big Ten Network, and the commentators keep saying, when a player is injured, that he is, “…in need of repair.” What? Lol

  • Super Sooner says:

Sunderland really knows how to tackle he will be great for defense at OU. He has got to make it.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Looks like WVU pulled it out at the end. Nice.

  • Drew says:

Looks like Tech just scored. I missed it though, anyone want to inform me on how the drive looked?

  • Super Sooner says:

There are a lot of DE that OU could recruit

  • Indy_sooner says:

    YESSIR!!! Sunderland has committed.

  • Zack says:

Danley appears close prizbilo or whatever from scout is trying to find out.

  • EasTex says:

Just flipped over to ARK-Taco tech and they did a quick promo of the OU game tonight. The ABC announcer called TK a senior QB. Unbelievable.

  • Drew says:

You know what? I’m not worried about the Tech game anymore.

    • boomersooner says:

nobody is scared of klifford, the big red douche

      • Drew says:

Lol. Seriously though, we’ll be able to run right over them.

        • boomersooner says:

i agree. im hoping, against teams like that, that we run and run some more. we can outscore teams but, to me, against basketball on grass, you just need ball control and thats it and they will get so impatient

          • JB says:

Or play great D. We didn’t start losing to leach until Venables took over the D.

          • boomersooner says:

yes. but if i had to choose, i’d choose to keep em off the field as much as possible

          • JB says:

Excellent point…Makes sense. I was just thinking of the 2002 60-15 blowout game…makes me smile!

I’m with you though…I think controlling the game clock/T.O.P. was a casualty of our offensive pass explosion & hurt us in the big games. I think our D was on the field for too many plays. The less you expose the D to opponent’s plays the less the D will bend or break. That 8+ minute drive in Stoolwater last year was huge.

          • boomersooner says:

i’ll take 60-15 all day long too

          • EasTex says:

I am still happy with the 2008 curb stomp we put on Taco Tech when they were #2 in the country.

        • JB says:

They have a run defense that’s as strong as wet Kleenex

      • EasTex says:

        But…but…big Ol’But, he is s000 dreamy.
        /s

        • leatherneck1061 says:

Yeah what is it with all the announcers talking about him like that all the time and making the entire tv audience feel dirty? Was he a contestant on the Bachelorette or something? I’ve seriously heard guys on their talk like he is their fantasy dreamboat or something.

          • boomersooner says:

haha. hung with james denton a little and its the same thing. awesome dude but when you hang with him he’s just another guy. i guess he’s decent looking but i don’t ogle dudes

          • EasTex says:

When his act was new and shiny last year(and when they were undefeated and ranked) his name was never mentioned without a swoon. Now, not so much.

    • Defend Colfax says:

Are there worse fans in the XII than tech fans?

  • CKill1 says:

Hello, y’all! Man what an amazing site TFB is! I’ve been an OU fan for years and been reading here for a while after the implosion over at CCM. Thank you all for what you do. Now that that is out of the way, I am LOVING watching all these teams we have to face this year who simply can’t stop the run. At all.

  • JJsooner1 says:

Are we recruiting Whitfield from Spiro?

    Pretty impressive stats here

    http://newsok.com/spiros-mckinley-whitfield-has-big-game-in-win-over-muldrow/article/5341848

    • EasTex says:

      He is Studley Doright IMO.

      • JJsooner1 says:

So Eas Tex, do you think he can play?

        • EasTex says:

I do and I think he shines like a Star.

          • JJsooner1 says:

Yup me too. My kind of player. Blue collar, hard working tough as a nail guy.

          • Sooner Ray says:

OU has taken a look at him, they just can’t seem to decide where he would be a good fit.

          • EasTex says:

I think he would fit nicely in Crimson and Cream, and between the white stripes. Kid is a stud and belongs on the field.
Coaches told him they wanted to see him play a few games before they decided, well he has played and starred in three. Sign him already.

          • hOUligan says:

Haven’t seen anything but a bit of tape but trust your judgment and that of a few others saying the same thing. This kid needs an OU offer and now.

          • EasTex says:

I saw the same tape and his “star” quality just jumped off the screen and seared itself into my brain pan.

          • hOUligan says:

Are you talking the camp tape? Wondering why his coaches or someone haven’t put something together with the attention he’s getting. For Whitfield’s best interest I hope they do soon.

          • EasTex says:

No, it was either a hudl or utube tape.

  • JJsooner1 says:

Taco Tech run defense is gawd awful…..can’t tackle…..3 personal fouls on defense in ONE half.

    • EasTex says:

I think it was on Fox Sports, they had a graphic about OU’s O-line. Not only is it the biggest in FBS, if they were in the NFL it would be second largest.
I want some of those Tacos and flying burrito wraps now.

  • Drew says:

WoooooW, Tech, you were handed that on a platter. You sure you don’t want Mayfield back?

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Man, third time’s the charm for Davis Webb on that INT.
    First throw, almost picked off.
Second throw, defender caught it out of bounds.
    Third throw, INT.

  • EasTex says:

In the unlikely event some of our TFB brothers and sisters haven’t seen the video where the Knoxville News guy shows how the Vols can upset OU, I will post it here.

  • boomersooner says:

defender for uga should be thrown out of the sport. he just nailed the qb in the kness 45 mins after the play was over

  • Ed Cotter says:

A little info on why Ykili Ross didn’t make it into town. Riverside Poly’s game vs. Ramona High, originally scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, was rescheduled for today as part of the Inland Empire Football Challege where three games are to take place tonight. Poly plays at 4:30 PST.
Still gonna be tough to keep him away from USC, but at least his no-show this weekend was due to a game and his not wanting to come to Norman.

  • Super Sooner says:

Jamal Danley looks like a beast

  • C’mon Danley. Make the call bro.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

For the record, I just want to say that while I think we should win handily, I hate it when we are in a big game on the big stage and almost everyone is saying our opponent is going to get destroyed. Don’t like it one bit.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Kingsbury and Co. getting run over now. D couldn’t stop walking traffic at Walmart.

    • EasTex says:

Arkies RBs are exhausted and getting their hammies massaged on the sideline. ROTFLMAO!
Arkie has 150yds rushing…in the second half.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

It’s hilarious….Tech is giving up bushels of points to a team that doesn’t normally get any….at least not against FBS squads anyway. Look at Arkie this year and last year and their offense absolutely blows. Tech is about to have the honor of providing the hogs their first FBS win in 2 years…..lol.

    • EasTex says:

      000PSIE!
Arkie just rips off an 84yd TD run right up the middle. Poor Hog RB, barely had enough gas in the tank to make it to the goal line.
54 rushes, 387yds for Arkie and there is still 11 minutes left in the 4th.

      • leatherneck1061 says:

Watch…Arkie’s gonna have to empty the bench to keep running the ball. DT’s, Kicker’s, equipment managers….everybody’s gonna get mileage today. Meanwhile the rb’s get ambulanced to the hospital to get treated for exhaustion

  • JJsooner1 says:

Hogs go 84 yards from scrimmage. ONE run!!

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Way to rep the Big 12, Tech.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Tech is without doubt a soft taco this year.

  • Defend Colfax says:

    Too Turnt Up

  • EasTex says:

Looks like perfect football weather in Norman for tonight and Chamber of Commerce weather for all of our honored guests.

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Watch…..The hogs are gonna end up with double Tech’s score. Beilema needs to give Kliff a big sloppy kiss when they meet mid field. Dream boy may have literally saved his bacon….pun intended.

  • boomersooner says:

i like rhodes but further proof the big 10 stinks

  • Ed Cotter says:

Iowa St. came back and beat Iowa, but Tech got trounced by Arky. Gave up 438 yards rushing…..I do believe I read that right. OU OL and backs are going to be salivating if Tech’s run D is still that atrocious when the Sooners play the Red Raiders.

  • Daddy R says:

    Gameday thread?

  • Katyboomer says:

Anybody watching UGA game? Two of the ESPN guy said they ranked UGA# 1 this week. UGA may come back and win, but #1 I think not. I think. The whole SEC is really down this year.

  • EasTex says:

Dinner prep is finished, time to cook.

    Later, friends.

  • Daddy R says:

    Jordan E?

  • Daddy R says:

Coach Merv and Toby…Take it away!

  • Zack says:
