Open Post | Christmas Week (UPDATE Dec. 24, 8:42 am)

We’re going to let this Open Post serve as our Christmas week post, since we’ll be celebrating with our families. If there are updates we’ll add them here or, if necessary, we’ll add a separate post. Merry Christmas to you all!

Darreyl Patterson: We got some wonderful news from Lawton 2015 CB Darreyl Patterson this morning. We rarely, if ever, report on academic stuff. It just feels very unfair to a young person, but we are always happy to pass on positive news. Patterson got an excellent score on his ACT and thus no longer has any qualification issues.

There were unfortunately a lot of people that talked about this young man and his academic situation when it was put out publicly by another website. Those kinds of things are hurtful to these young players, and Patterson was very aware of what was being said about him. But he put in the work to get done what he needed to get done and it has clearly paid off for him!

Patterson is an ultra twitchy athlete. As he develops the efficiency within his movements, he could turn into a fantastic D-I corner. The initial physical qualities you look for in a CB are speed, quickness, and length. However, everyone places a different premium on those three qualities. Patterson has speed and quickness for days, and he’s got pretty good length as well standing around 5’11”. He’s being heavily recruited by Arizona State and will take a visit there in January. He also has plans to visit Kansas State next month.

Josh Wariboko: Last night 2015 offensive lineman and former OU commit Josh Wariboko released his Top 3 which included Oklahoma, UCLA, and in a bit of a surprise Ohio State instead of Louisville (we heard that his in-home visit with coach McGee went really well). It’s our understanding, though, that the battle is really between the Sooners and Bruins.

Wariboko will announce on January 2nd at the Under Armor All-American game. If we had to guess right now, based on what we’ve heard, UCLA would be the choice. But it’s pretty clear OU believes they’ve still got a good chance, because they are waiting on the decision. If Wariboko does head to UCLA, we expect OU to still push hard for one more offensive lineman. Which could be Jalin Barnett or possibly a late flip (no names just yet, but we know they’re working on it) from someone currently committed elsewhere.

Kareem Orr: As most of you know, 2015 CB Kareem Orr is very high on the Sooners. In talking to him, we get a strong sense OU is currently his leader. However, Orr will take a trip to Arizona State and we are told he has a lot of early intrigue in the Sun Devils (those darn palm trees!). The interesting thing will be to see how it plays out with Orr and Patterson as both are ASU targets.

In talking to sources, we’ve been told that Patterson is the No. 1 cornerback on ASU’s board. In fact, we’ve been told that ASU believes Patterson is the best cornerback their coaches have seen in this 2015 class. ASU currently has zero DB commits, so it’s likely they’d be interested in taking both but it’s something to watch.

Anthony Wheeler: Caught up with the 2015 Skyline LB yesterday and he confirmed that he will also announce his decision at the Under Armor All-American Game on Jan. 2nd. Wheeler’s final four are OU, Texas, LSU & Baylor. However it’s long been thought to be an OU vs. Texas battle, with Baylor having an outside chance. Some have speculated, though, that Texas may pull back now that they landed 5-star LB, Malik Jefferson.

We have talked to some Texas folks and while that speculation exists, no one has been able to confirm whether or not the Horns will back off. So we are assuming that Texas is still pursuing Wheeler. For whatever it’s worth, we did get the sense in talking to him yesterday that while he said OU and Texas are even, the Sooners are looking pretty good here.

On a related note, Alex and I (K) we’re talking about Wheeler this weekend and he offered up his thoughts on Wheeler from the times he’s seen him live. He said that Wheeler sometimes looks a little slow, but he insisted that he’s got plenty of speed and quickness. Alex said he got the sense that Wheeler is just a little slow to diagnose a play and is hesitating. That’s a very correctable issue and with Wheelers great size, frame, and downhill speed, if OU can land him he could make a nice addition to a class that now has Ricky DeBerry in the fold.

No one will ever mistake DeBerry or Wheeler for safeties…that’s for sure.

Neville Gallimore: Oklahoma wants the big time Canadian prospect, and they’ve made that abundantly clear to Gallimore and his family. They’ve recruited both heavily and the more we find out about this situation and talk to folks close to it, the more we feel this one may in fact play out in OU’s favor. In fact, at this point, we’d cautiously say OU is the favorite.

In talking to people around Neville, we’ve been told in no uncertain terms that Jerry Montgomery and Bob Stoops have simply done a better job recruiting him. the Ohio State (the primary contender to OU) staff has put in the work, but haven’t been as strategically sound in the way they’ve gone about building relationships with people around Neville. tOSU’s in-home visit with Neville, we are told, did not go very well.

Meanwhile, we’ve been told the Gallimore family was very comfortable with Stoops and Montgomery. And there seems to be a trust built there that doesn’t necessarily exist with other staffs. Gallimore plans on making his decision at the U.S. Army All-American game or shortly thereafter, so early January is shaping up to be a very, very important time for OU recruiting.

– UPDATE (Dec. 24, 8:39 am): If you haven’t seen already, OU did not make the cut for 2015 WR Ryan Newsome. However, the Sooners do still appear to be after another wideout as they are expected to host JUCO WR Dominique Reed some time in January.

– UPDATE (Dec. 24, 8:42 am): Also going down last night was 2015 OK Preps WR Dahu Green reopening his recruiting, though he was clear Louisville is still very much under consideration. But before you get too excited, we’ve heard OU isn’t likely to get involved here. Keep an eye on Mike Leach and Washington State.

Merry Christmas brother! To you and all you hold dear. ..

  • Jordan says:

I watched Wheeler at the State semifinal game against Allen and I was impressed. He has a good motor and seemed to always be around the ball. He did miss a few tackles on Kyler Murray, but you cannot really be upset about that. I was most impressed with his ability to blitz from the linebacker position and get to the quarterback. He was too fast for offensive lineman and had good strength against the bigger Allen offensive lineman. Overall, I think he would be a great fit for OU defense. Reminds me of a bigger, more athletic Dom Alexander.

    • EasTex says:

Funny that, I watched the same game and watched him with interest in the replay.
What I saw turned me off. He took plays off, didn’t hustle to the ball when the play was away from him and just didn’t seem emotionally engaged in an important game.
He clearly has the physical ability, but it seems his head and/or heart are holding him back. If I had to make a choice between a gifted athlete with little desire or a less gifted athlete with a Tazmanian Devil attitude, I would take the latter every time.
Many here like him, the coaches seem too, the recruiting services like him and he has many offers, so it could just be me that doesn’t like what I saw in that game.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

Teuhema.. or maybe Wheathersby as that extra Olineman..?

  • Cole says:

Merry Christmas to everyone and God Bless. Merry Christmas to everyone and God Bless.

OU needs to land Wheeler. Bad. And for that matter, McKee. I would say Houston but that’s a bigger long shot than the Cubs winning the World Series.

  • cdubs says:

Any chance OU gets involved with Patterson? Thanks for the info!

    • Super K says:

I’ve heard Bob Stoops has always been a BIG fan of Patterson’s game so it’s certainly possible.

      • Scott Ryan says:

Is Patterson an Antonio Perkins type of player

        • William Ryan says:

Not quite the ball hawk as Perkins was as he was a star at receiver and cornerback at lawton high but may be a little more “twitchy” with good potential

      • blaster1371 says:

But wasn’t there some talk he was po’ed at OU for something about his recruitment or non-recruitment?

      • Defend Colfax says:

We talkin’ smoke? Smoke Patterson? He’s gonna be on campus soon?

        …jokes

  • boomersooner says:

I’m sure its the palm trees….or it could be something Jordan talked about in the daily post. Starts with “b” and ends in “oobs” 😉 😉

    • LXXIV says:

If it is Palm trees, he might notice all of the loose sand that surrounds them and most every thing else and hope the irrigation systems don’t break down. Lol!

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

If we’re still looking for a MLB next year.. Check out AJ Hotchkins hudl.. Freshman at Riverside CC.. right now..

Merry Christmas #Brainiacs Thanks for the hard work!

    A Merry Brainiacs Christmas!

  • ratman says:

Glad you guys started this site! Merry Xmas to all Brainiac staff and their families. I did not renew my OU insider account for next year.

  • Bob Edwards says:

I’ve asked Santa for a couple of AA MLB’s for Christmas so it should be a Merry Christmas for all. Enjoy your time with family.

  • William Ryan says:

Patterson and barnett would be a nice combo from down here in lawton. Fyi it seems this area produces more d1 kids than anywhere in the state

    • Malicong says:

I would say that the 15 mile stretch from Jenks to Broken Arrow produces more. That would include Jenks, Union, and Broken Arrow as well as occasional D-1 contrbutors Victory Christian, Tulsa Memorial, Bixby, and Glenpool. Of course, there are a lot more people and playing opportunity as well, so it should. That stretch produced 48 D-1 players (or at least players that were offered D-1 schollys, if they actually got in is another story) in the last 5 years. Jenks alone had 14 and Union 13. Lawton (all schools) has produced 10.
Not trying to belittle what they do down there, Lawton does produce a lot of great players, but the big schools around Tulsa have turned into a factory and OU has claimed a lot of those guys.

      • William Ryan says:

I hear what your saying but your also talking 100000 more people. per capita no area produces more d1 guys back in 2002 I was walking the halls and seeing guys like d j Wolfe larry birdine marcus Henry I could go on and on and that was just at Eisenhower

  • Jared Tyra says:

Merry Christmas everyone! Looking forward to those all American games!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Merry Christmas everyone. 2 weeks from Saturday the OU recruiting class could be just about complete.

  • hOUligan says:

Merry Christmas to you all!! And here’s to building towards #8 in the coming new year.

    BOOMER, Brainiacs!!!

    • Super K says:

      Merry Christmas! Sooner!

      • hOUligan says:

Thanks, Super K!! After the Christmas break, any chance of a post with prospective announcement dates for the recruits? We could update as new info comes. Appreciate all you guys do. Best OU site anywhere, hands down.

  • OU_Sooners says:

I know it’s under wraps a little bit, but I’m very interested to see which coach(es) may not be employed by the University of Oklahoma in the fall of 2015.

    • Super K says:

I’ve heard as few as 1 coach being gone to everyone gone but 3 or 4 coaches. Tough to say at this point.

      • DCinAZ says:

I’ll take a stab at it.

The assistant director of equipment gets his arse canned and nobody else.

      • Jeremy Phillips says:

Total guess on my part.. but I’d say BJW gets reassigned to an on campus recruiting coordinator or player personnel director.. & Viney gets bumped up…

        • blaster1371 says:

Not sure about Viney, only because I have no info on his coaching ability or production, but I would like BJW to stay with the program in some capacity.

  • Mr. Jones says:

I know you can’t say who the surprise commit is that you mentioned last week, but all I want to know is if this someone who is definitely planning on committing to OU or someone who is just considering committing?

  • Ed Cotter says:

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to the entire TFB Family (Writers, Readers and Posters). Oh….and BOOMER!!

    • RBear says:

I second that and welcome back.

    • Defend Colfax says:

      SOONER!

    • pitbull17 says:

      Sooner!!!
I’m not able to be comment as often as I’d like anymore, but I check this site daily and can’t wait till I find a job back at home and can comment more than every 2 weeks for a few days! I love this site.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Merry Christmas to you and your family. Post as often as you can when you have the time, it’s not the same without ya! 🙂

        • pitbull17 says:

I try buddy, most of the time where I work I’m lucky to get fast enough internet to even pull up the page, trying to comment opens up a can of worms, the page may not load back up and then I can’t even scroll through to read the rest of the comments. there is only one cell phone provider that advertises 4g down there and most of the time you don’t even get 3g, it’s that bad. Merry Christmas and Happy New Years to you and yours as well!

  • Brian says:

Any chance we could get an update on Ryan Newsome? And Desean Holmes for that matter?

I know Newsome is releasing his Top 3 tonight…I expect OU, Texas, and Tennessee.

    • Zack says:

We just offered another juco wr Dominique reed. So I’m guessing we aren’t confident DGB is returning and possibly newsome gave us a heads up.

      • hOUligan says:

Reed in eSECspin juco top 50 6’3 190 offers fromm FL, SoMiss, Ark

        http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/203913/dominique-reed
Would be disappointed to learn OU out of it for Newsome after all I’ve read about the ‘great relationship’ he has built with CBob.

        • F1at1ined says:

After seeing the number of drops we had at WR, if Reed has hands that are glue, he’s worth bringing in. I realize not all of the throws were great but we dropped quite a lot of catchable passes this year which just made our QBs look that much worse statistically.

      • blaster1371 says:

Out of curiosity, with the lack of an potent passing game the last few seasons and the heavy lean on the run game, why would WRs give OU a hard look?

        • SoonerfanTU says:

History of our offense dating back to 1999?

          • blaster1371 says:

Perhaps. Just looks like the offense is heading in a new direction. I guess the idea of immediate playing time is also attractive.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Yeah. I think we’ll still throw it plenty if our passing game can be efficient, but you are right, maybe not as much as we have always done in the past.

          • blaster1371 says:

I know the buzz word is “balance”. I like to think of it as a double-barreled shotgun- stop the run, we rip you with the pass and stop the pass we beat you with the run.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

BS always says, “we want to be multiple.”

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Hopefully they recognize or it will be pointed out that the emphasis was not out of design. It was a necessary move due to an injured Wr.

      • Indy_sooner says:

IMO Dede’s offer in itself was an indication on DGB’s potential move and/or experience at that position.
Also, Dede is a slot type guy while Reed is more of a deep threat WR so they may just be looking for experience in both.

      • rphokc says:

..dgb aside. think it says anything about the current roster occupants, playing or not playing/rs

        • blaster1371 says:

I hear you. I think the multiple redshirts at WR last season had more to do with them not being ready as it was to keep weapons in the future arsenal.

        • Zack says:

I mean unless Todd and Andrews are total busts. But if both pan out along with mead and quick, then I would say our receivers look good. If norvell could convince DGB to stay, that would be worth giving him an extra year or 2 to develop the younger guys. If DGB is gone then I would like to see a new guy in here developing our receivers.

          • Mr. Jones says:

All four of those guys were highly rated. Quick showed some promise this year and you would think one of the other 3 stepping up and earning pt next season would be a reasonable expectation. If that happened, we’d have some height at receiver again finally.

      • DCinAZ says:

Doesn’t sound like we’re confident about ay of our other WR’s either.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

And no Lodge as well, either? Is he (Lodge) the kid that is tight with QB Murray?

  • HoustonChiver says:

I have a good feeling about Gallimore!

  • dahldennsull says:

Anyone with knowledge care to expand how an in home could go so poorly for a school that has been in a top 2 this long? Seems like a huge mistake for tOSU to go into Gallimore’s house and blow it this late, I mean what could you really say? different opinion of position? how soon he would see playing time?

    • captfoss says:

You familiar with the phrase “rubs you the wrong way”?

    • SoonerfanTU says:

This is why I don’t get too bent out of shape when a recruit, or rumor, suggests the OU staff didn’t do something well, or dropped the ball. That is simply a part of recruiting. Meyer is a good recruiter, and I’m sure his staff are too, for the most part. Even staffs like Ohio State can be “underwhelming” to certain recruits.

      Can’t get them all.

  • blaster1371 says:

About Lufkin or Lampkin..the former OU commit turned Texass commit to now getting cozy again with OU: I know when he decommitted there was not great feeling of loss. I have read a few posts over the weeks that reflect some excitement about him possible coming to his senses and coming back to OU. Did he have a monster senior year or something that would cause some “hope” he recommits to OU?

    • Brian says:

Lampkin was very improved…much more explosive. Very much a 3-4 DE.

      • blaster1371 says:

Is he now reconsidering OU or is that just wishful thinking? Lad just seems to be very wishy-washy.

    • Indy_sooner says:

When he first came out, his tape was underwhelming. Senior (or junior?) year, he had a monster year and started getting all these offers, including LSU and Fexas. FWIW, his mom really wanted him with the good guys but looking at Clark et al. we know that doesn’t always mean jack

    • Zack says:

Well I’m not sure what award he won…it may have just been Houston area defensive player of the year but Anderson won the offensive award at the same ceremony from what I saw. So I would say he improved but my feeling when he left is that he would be better in a 4-3 because I don’t think he would be enormous enough to be a NG. Now I’ve got the feeling we will see the return of the 4-3 so I’m excited about the possibility.

      • blaster1371 says:

I too would like to see the return to the 4-3 with that third LB being the hybrid safety type (Jefferson, Baker, etal). I think Thomas (#13) would be better suited for that role and maybe even Smallwood if he doest pan out as a WR.

        • Zack says:

Do you think smallwood would really transition to defense? I mean I hope he pans out as a wr but is there real potential at olb/nickel?

      • SoonerfanTU says:

What does TCU play? 4-2-5, correct? That is probably my preference playing in the Big 12, most weeks. Every once and awhile (KSU, maybe UT going forward), I might prefer a more traditional 4-3, but I really think you need cover guys out there, and we just haven’t had LB’s that can cover in several years.

        • Zack says:

I think the 3-4/3-3-5 gives you a ton of flexibility, but mike hasn’t figured it out all the way. It seems like he blitz’ one guy from the right, then on anther play blitz’ a guy from the left, sometimes he blitz’ 2 guys off the edge and then his other blitz package is bring 7 or 8. There’s very little creativity IMO. He’s got to figure a way to bring pressure with just 4 or 5 guys but also not get torched on simple 7 yard routes.
Then he also needs to find a way to stop the run first teams from wearing us out and I think that will start with getting bigger more athletic linebackers that don’t get dragged 3-4 yards per tackle.

  • Indy_sooner says:

Like clockwork, year 2 of the home run hires is paying dividends in spades.
Last year, we went 1/2 on prospects in the AA / UA high school games. This year? We have 6, two of already in the fold. Coach B and Monty doing work!

  • boomersooner says:

anybody heard these rumors of who’s applying for the wisconsin job? supposedly a few people who say they are good at madden and college football on xbox and whatnot think they would make good coaches. sounds vaguely familiar…

    • JB says:

I see you’ve been looking in the mirror again…lol

      • boomersooner says:

when have i ever claimed to know enough about football to be a coach? all i do is point out the people who obviously know little to nothing but act like their pessimistic opinion is the only one to have, but you go on, little miss can’t be wrong, and keep thinking you’re God’s gift to the sport and to this site…teeheehee

    • pitbull17 says:

haha, yeah I just read that story. It’s pretty funny to see what some people felt qualified them for the job. You could tell most of the people were just joking around with their application, but some of them were dead serious.

  • SoonerFan11 says:

The numbers game should get interesting…. What I like most about Wheeler is he crushes the ball carrier and doesn’t get stuck on blocks…. My question is does OU try to get in involved with Patterson now that he has qualified???

  • SoonerfanTU says:

We have a chance to finish VERY strong in recruiting. Still a lot of really good players that OU either leads for, probably leads for, or is definitely still in the running for. Seems to be our M.O. in recruiting…..finish strong.

    • Navy_UDT says:

We are going to finish very strong! Gentlemen of Brainiacs, wishing you a very Merry Christmas and an even more prosperous New Year. You guys are a breath of fresh air and we appreciate all the effort you put forth to keep the Sooner fanatics informed.

    Nate Dalton
    Darreyl Patterson
    Jaylon Lane
    Iman Marshall*

    *It never hurts to dream

    What do you guys think?

    • blaster1371 says:

I think what gets lost in projecting the 2015 class is how many scholarships will be available. My estimation is that if no more players transfer out than have already been announced then OU has maybe 20-23 scholarships available.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      Give me:

      One of Barnett/Wariboko
Would love an additional WR, but not looking good from that list
Gallimore, Campell, and Lampkin (unbelievable DL class)
Wheeler, Smith, and one of McGinnis/McKee
      Orr and one of Dalton/Patterson

That, coupled with what we already have in the bag, and I’d be ecstatic. Maybe add something like QB Murray late, and we might have ourselves a top 10 class.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

According to the average of stars OU is 8th in the country now. 3.5 average. Forget the total number of recruits brought in, it is never equal.

      • SavageSoonerEsq says:

OU is in great need of a top 10 class with elite talent on both sides of the ball, now maybe more than ever.

    • hOUligan says:

Nice list. Can add a few more but bottom line is, a lot of great young football players, about a couple dozen. Would love to have any or all. Like blaster said, now try and pick 8 or so.

    • Daryl says:

To me the must haves are Wheeler, McGinnis, Patterson, Lane/Orr, and Barnett.

That is lots of Talent with a good mix of Oklahoma boys.

  • DCinAZ says:

4* dual threat QB Chad President decommits from Baylor.

  • Michael Darling says:

Random coincidence, but I watched Chad President play this past weekend in the TSHFB playoffs and I liked what I saw. Now that he has decommitted, any chance OU offers?

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Still my biggest wish and I know it’s a complete long shot but the Hail Mary I want us to land is Kyler Murray. I watched the Allen game this weekend and he just seems to have that “it” factor.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Having discovered this great post during the regrettable 2014 Baylor game when looking for an outlet to blow off steam, I want to wish TFB a Merry Christmas. Thanks for the knowledge. Boomer.

  • JB says:

I want to wish all of you and your families a Merry Christmas and many blessings in the New Year.

Please be safe in your travels and most importantly, come back home alive. Nothing else is more important.

    • Dustin Madson says:

Is it possible OU get’s involved with Chad President? He has offers from Texas and Tech. He’s a dual threat QB and can play WR. I wouldn’t mind adding him as our lone QB to see if he works out. If he doesn’t we can move him to WR. He’s a big target and runs a 4.4.

  • Lesslie Stanford says:

Dumb question I know, but does Patterson have an OU offer?

  • Dustin Madson says:

JUCO WR Dominique Reed has been offered by OU… http://sports.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Dominique-Reed-165993

  • Stephen Dale says:

Smart money has Wariboko to UCLA, Barnett to Nebraska, Wheeler to Texas, President to TT, Patterson to ??? , DGB to the pros,……..the possible flip, Teahuma ( OL) committed to LSU currently has a brother already on campus at LSU so it would seem it would be a 2 for 1 if it happens… Probably the longest of longshots, however….Would also think gallimore and 2016 QB Guarantano will both choose tOSU ( proximity) over OU ( distance factor for both )…Murray is a legacy for aTm.

    • Zack says:

I think for gallimore to end up at tosu at this point will take a remarkable scramble for Meyer and company. Also can’t see guarantano going there if they keep Gibson as a qb for at least a year. Although I think guarantano will be a long shot because I believe buechele will beat him to the punch as far as committing.
Out of curiosity are you saying all that because you want to hedge your bets? I understand if that’s the case.

      • Kody K. says:

Well if he’s wanting to place bets, I’ll take him up on at least a couple of those. I’ll take the Barnett and Gallimore bets.

      • Stephen Dale says:

Zack……..no hedging………location / location / location seems to be the key for me in most of the recruiting battles remaining–and—OU is farther from home in almost every instance..Secondly, the other schools are as academically sound as OU and the other Power 5 conferences more highly regarded than the Little 12-2..makes choosing tOSU, UCLA, etc an easy choice..

        • Kody K. says:

Stephen–In general, location is probably the strongest impetus that attracts an athlete to a school. But, I think the blue chippers consider a much broader variety of factors before committing. OU has proven they can allure great athletes from coast to coast! Great recruiters win the game of recruiting and I think we have a few good ones.

        • Boom says:

I guess all of Bama’s players come from, well I guess Alabama.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Location sure played a role with Haughton, right?

        • Zack says:

Ou is a place kids go even if it’s not close and I think that’s why ou is taking a notre dame like approach to recruiting. You’re right about academics but ou and boren are trying to make this an academic destination plus with wariboko I think it would be difficult to devalue the education you can receive at ou, his parents are alumni and obviously have done well enough to put at least 2 kids in an elite private school.
And as far as wheeler he’s probably closer to Norman than Austin

          • Gary Robbins says:

Is UCLA closer than Norman for Wariboko?
Is Nebraska closer than Norman for Barnett? Also thought his grandparents come into play somehow.
Right – isn’t Wheeler from Dallas ( Norman vs Austin).
Agree Gallimore is closer to Ohio State than OU- but we have Montgomery.
Not sure what Stephen Dale means by location.

      • Mr. Jones says:

FWIW I think I read that Guarantano wants to commit in the next few week. I can’t remember where I read that though.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Sweet. Maybe you should go follow Bama or somebody like that. They never miss on recruits. You’ll be happier there.

    • boomersooner says:

uncle, dude. you and castor tie for worst, most pointless troll type posters. all i want for christmas is for ebony and ivory to amscray

    • rphokc says:

….mont might getcha on gallimore, hopefully……….one of those relationship deals…….btw, wish ou would go back pro-style o and get guarantano, et al

    • EasTex says:

Thou art a fusty nut with no kernel!

    • Austin says:

So you think that ou is gonna miss possibly on every recruit listed above? Come on man, they might miss on some of them but on all of them? No way

      • hOUligan says:

He obviously has forgotten OU’s history with tejas players. And somebody forgot to tell Samaje Perine, Curtis Bolton, Devante Bond and Mark Andrews, among others last season, about ‘proximity’, or 3/4 of the roster. Guess Ricky DeBerry isn’t so good at geography either. While he seems intelligent enough, Stephen gardensheels whatever handle is a sad, pathetic little human being who quite obviously says and does whatever might gain him/or her some attention. Hey Stephen! Try a little optimism in your life. It feels good. Really. You can start here, on this site. It’s fun and you might even like it!!

        • EasTex says:

And yet some here actually reply to his drivel as though he is making serious comments.
          Truly baffling.

          • Zack says:

I guess I haven’t paid enough attention. I thought he was serious but I will take your word. I need a list of trollsters so I know who not to pay attention to. I could tell right away the castor guy was a troll so I’ve ignored him.

          • EasTex says:

This guy is looking to punk and pwn the good folks here.

    • Boomer4life says:

You need to get a refund on that crystal ball of yours.

  • EasTex says:

Merry Christmas to all at TFB.

  • EasTex says:

Of the prospects/recruits listed above I’m not familiar with Orr or Patterson. Of the other three that I am familiar with the only one I want to be a Sooner is Gallimore. He is a fantastic young man and player.
I watched Wheeler with interest in the semi-final with Allen and he struck me as lazy, it seemed he took every play off that wasn’t in his immediate vicinity and didn’t seem to hustle in general.
Wariboko and his demands for his brother receiving an offer and his “psyche” twitter post months ago are indications to me that he could be a locker room problem child.

  • Zack says:

Brennan clay just apologized for jumping to conclusions. I’m stunned

  • DCinAZ says:

@Dahu_Green18: I have decided to re-open my recruitment, with The University of Louisville still strongly in mind” Stud WR Dahu Green

  • Zack says:

Not in the top 3 for newsome…not a huge surprise and good thing we got Humphrey in the fold and he’s bigger and faster. Would have been nice to get both

    • DCinAZ says:

      Perfectly happy with Humphrey tho.

    • EasTex says:

Not feeling too badly about that. His team won their state championship, but all he did was occupy space and drop passes.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Any idea what our chances would be with the Reed kid out of Coffeyville JC? 6’4″, runs a sub 4.4, a WR and is said to be an elusive kick returner. I guess we offered. Been looked at by Arky and Florida among others.

  • Jeff says:

    No Newsome

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Neville Gallimore committing to OU would be a pretty awesome late Christmas gift.

  • ejtjr says:

According to another site, we did not make Newsome’s final three, UT, Tenn, UCLA.

  • boomersooner says:

another vent thread is up if anyone wants to go through that yet again. i think that makes a baker’s dozen since season’s end

    • Sooner Ray says:

That’s the good thing about multiple threads, if you don’t like it, pick one you do. 🙂 We need something to do between now and signing day when we will go back into “we’re gonna win the natty” mode.

      • boomersooner says:

well i try to read through everything and see who i enjoy reading and who smells like that nasty deuce i took last night. i just love hypocrisy. people think i “have to be right” or my “sunglasses are crimson colored” or my “head is in the sand”. well when a bunch of pessimists wanna have a circle jerk, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are correct but they will spit venom at anyone who disagrees. i’m just not gonna sit around and let this place become some of these other sites. there’s certain people around here who really need to lighten up or take it elsewhere. they wouldn’t know a good time if it sat in their lap

        • Sooner Ray says:

There are always people who are a little overboard with negativity. For the most part I don’t mind if someone wants to share their point of view as long as they are respectful and aren’t just spewing a bunch of garbage.

          • boomersooner says:

well, a boat load of brutal posts followed by tons of negative, pessimistic trash is what smells around here. i get it. something ain’t right but to sit and tell stuff like you got your finger on the pulse of everything or you know every fix gets freakin tiring. some of these guys are like the midnight to 2 infomercials. some of these guys won’t let you talk em off the ledge, so hopefully they just go ahead and jump and let the rest of us off the hook(that’s figurative, i hope none of them actually leap from a tall building 🙂 )

          • Sooner Ray says:

The thing about negative comments……..if no one responds, the conversation is over. I have friends that are so angry about the current state of the program that they have suspended their donations to the University. I’m glad they don’t hang out on message boards.

          • boomersooner says:

and that’s the thing i’ve always enjoyed about you and toats and jordan for that matter. you guys will converse. i’m a mutt but i have irish blood in me somewhere and that’s where the argumentative side comes in

          • kt-raida says:

But this is also what makes people like you valuable to this site, I have so many emotions during a game and I like expressing all of them on the game day threads here and if you look at my post you’ll think I was a bipolar lunatic. But at the end of the game I still love the Sooners and love the debates we can have on TFB.

          • boomersooner says:

During a game is great. Everybody’s bipolar during a game. Hell some guys develop tourettes. Its the non stop every single day guys that complain about EVERYTHING under the sun(and no I’m not talking about Stephen Dale and castortroy). To me, those guys need to go elsewhere. People like you, ray and toats you can talk to, the knowitalls, well you know…

          • Boomer4life says:

Nothing a cold shoulder can’t cure.

          • EasTex says:

Don’t have a problem with different opinions as long as they are rational.
Have no patience for alleged experts or keyboard coaches. OU football has been around for 119 years with a rich tradition of winning and it will be around and winning for many more after we are all gone.
I fell in love with OU football as a kid and no negative Nellie will ever bring me down. My self-esteem isn’t determined by OU’s wins and losses.

          • boomersooner says:

love affair for me too. and they’ll never bring me down. they just piss me off. internet heroes don’t know didley and continue to prove it

          • Sooner Ray says:

I don’t know about my self-esteem but my wife would tell you that I’m not the most pleasant fella just after a loss. 🙂

          • boomersooner says:

haha. that reminds me of the loss to tech with the rain delay. scared the turds outta my wife

          • EasTex says:

Every thing about that night was just weird, wrongly weird.

          • boomersooner says:

i think i heard rod serling was there

          • EasTex says:

I hate happy when they lose, but it doesn’t last long.

          • Boom says:

The more your educated about the game the more you can understand the wins/loses. This helps me while in the moment. If it’s a bad call by refs or JH, I let it go and focus on the next. Anything can happen at any given moment.
Tournament golf changed my mental approach to sports, especially OU football as that is where I’m vested.

          • EasTex says:

Like most, my first thought is about how much I hate to lose, which then quickly shifts to how badly the actual players and coaches feel. Soon that is followed about the real world I have to deal with and focus back on to what I need to be doing.
The Sooners have entertained/thrilled/disappointed me so many times over the last 58 years one game/season just doesn’t hurt as much as it did one inconsolable 7 year old boy the day the Humpback Leprechauns ended the 47 game winning streak.
Would love to see the Sooners have that type of dominant program again, but it will never happen with all the changes to the number of scholarship players a team can have and of course rule changes.

        • EasTex says:

I’m enjoying watching the Bone that Navy runs. SDS can’t seem to learn the lesson, you have to stop the first option to stop the Bone. Navy FB is rumbling for some big yards.

        • paganpink says:

If they’re having a circle jerk it isn’t actually “venom” they’re spitting, is it?

          • boomersooner says:

            optimists=gi joe?
            pessimists=cobra?

so maybe. otherwise, it reminds me of a scene in inside man when denzel tells clive owen that the things he’ll be sucking on in riker’s island aren’t pina coladas…haha

        • kt-raida says:

I think positive and negative criticism has a place here, unless they are clearly trolling. I believe that post was fair and sparks debate something that I enjoy. We all love the Sooners but just like our children we have to let them know when they are doing wrong. I defibrillator don’t think anyone who doesn’t think like me needs to not come here.

          • boomersooner says:

The post is interesting. It just sucks that it comes on the tails of a million other rant and vent threads

        • Easton says:

          Indeed.

    • EasTex says:

      I pass.

  • EasTex says:

I was at the big airport this morning and saw a group of people wearing orange and one guy had an orange ball cap on with a big I on it. I couldn’t figure out who these people were when one of the women put on a jacket with Illinois on the back.
I knew the Illini were coming to play in the Heart of Texas bowl, but had no idea when. Just looked at the schedule and they don’t play until Friday.
Those are some hard core Illini fans to give up Christmas at home to hang around in Dallas for the next 3-4 days.

    • Sooner Ray says:

The OU team arrived at their destination today, I’ll bet there are a few fans that are there to hang out also. I just couldn’t do it.

      • EasTex says:

I would love to be there but not to spend Christmas away from the kids and grandkids. Looking forward to playing with my grandson’s new toys Thursday.
        I call him Buzz Saw.

      • Stephen Dale says:

too expensive for a minor, meaningless bowlgame…..whether OU wins or loses , the season was one of America’s biggest college football disappointments……the bowl game isn’t going to fix any of the problems…..

        • lovethemsooners says:

Agree that it’s a minor bowl game, but any game my Sooners play in will never be categorized as “meaningless”. Yeah the season sucked, and I’m as disappointed as any other fan, but I’ll still be glued to my TV watching every single play.

Merry Christmas and Boomer Sooner Baby!!

        • boomersooner says:

Meaningless like you and your posts?

  • Guest says:

Dahu Green decommitted from Louisville today.

Please, please tell me OU gets involved. The kid has great size and looks like a very underrated prospect!

  • Boomer4life says:

Merry Christmas Peeps & a Happy New Year!

  • rmt28265 says:

Are you guys hearing that Norvell is out after the bowl game?

    • Jordan Esco says:

There are a lot of rumors floating around right now. Hard to tell fact from fiction.

    • Stephen Dale says:

maybe he’ll take JH with him as a package deal……..the offense needs a fresh approach ……………..well, the defense does , too. M Stoops isn’t in demand anywhere else and B Stoops isn’t going to fire him so OU is stuck with him………..

    • lovethemsooners says:

I’ve hear he and Kish and Mike are all gone, and that BJW could retire. Just rumors though.

  • AlvinMack55 says:

That’s a major let down that they aren’t going to pursue Dahu.

    • Zack says:

I agree. But if the poster below has good info and norvell may be out after the bowl, then maybe the next guy sees what dahu can do.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Alvin……….there has to be a real reason for OU’s apparant lack of interest …. any clues you’ve heard ???????????

  • SamSooner says:

To the TFB family, Merry Christmas!!! There are a lot of wonderful people who bring a lot of value to our daily discussion revolving around OU.

To the TFB contributors: Jordan, Super K, JY, and Drake, thank you for your commitment to getting information to us daily. This is the best site I’ve ever visited. What’s so amazing is that the website is organic. Please enjoy your family.

    Merry Christmas!!!!

  • kt-raida says:

It seems this staff is slow to offer the instate talent unless it’s a Steven Parker, or Jalin Barnett. If Dahl was from Cali he’d had an offer as a junior

    • Zack says:

      Dahu is from Cali btw.

Edit: transferred here after his sophomore year I think.

      • kt-raida says:

I’m pretty sure he goes to high school in Oklahoma. From Cali I mean high school system.

        • Zack says:

I’ve heard that he’s not all that interested in ou. So I don’t know if it’s always been that way or if he just felt put off

          • rphokc says:

…..will be interesting to see what he does, but petrino’s o is a good place for qbs/wrs………

          • Zack says:

I think petrino has a very solid recruiting strategy too. He’s going after 3 star guys that just want to play ball, and those guys are usually from power house states that are being put on the shelf while waiting for the 4 and 5 star guys to make up their minds.

          • EasTex says:

Lots of excellent players out there, some are late bloomers and will be stars.

  • Stephen Dale says:

No surprise about Newsome and OU…….That ‘ship’ sailed when OU got Westbrook as a consolation prize…Newsome is going to run TRACK and play football at Texas ( most likely)….he’ll be a thorn in OU’s side as long as he is in Austin……..his world class ‘deep speed” will test M Stoops …..little doubt OU ‘s DB’s play off the LOS by more than 8-10 yds to stay close to Newsome……………

    • Steve Johns says:

      • SamSooner says:

There is a shortage of periods and ellipsis and he feels the need to use ellipsis and periods together. And when he feels really wasteful, he uses a couple of ellipsis and a couple of periods or is that five periods and an ellipsis? Uh, I think I got that right. It’s so confusing. I have a headache.

        • cpearc00 says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one bothered by his excessive use of ellipses. He and rhpdenton or rhpokc or whatever he goes by now drive me absolutely bonkers with their complete misunderstanding of the proper use of ellipses. It makes me think they have serious mental problems aside from the substance of their posts, which also makes me think they are one egg short of a dozen.

          • rphokc says:

….1) to be honest, I was not familiar with ellipses or their use…….thxs for the insight….if you’re bonkers due to being a stickler for proper grammar and sentence structure, I applaud you……2) I simply use periods in place of using the shift key and avoiding capitilization…..call it laziness and informal typing on a message board…..3) I do not have serious mental problems that I’m aware of….4) whether you like/dislike. my posts is of no concern to me….5) yes, I was rphdenton on oui while there………6) merry christmas/hny!

          • hOUligan says:

Don’t think Sam was going after grammar so much as he was digging at that pathetic little human known as Stephan.

          • cpearc00 says:

He was replying to my message, not Sam’s, but there’s no need to continue the discussion as he’s said his peace and I’ve said mine. With that said, Mr. Dale is clearly more bothersome as his posts add zero value to the discussion.

          • Zack says:

I’ve never had a problem with rph. From my experience he’s on the boards to get information. The … Are far less annoying than the misspellings and people who appear to be drunk based on their posts making 0 sense. Also far less annoying than the “every recruit is going elsewhere” comments. According to mr dale, ou is going to land 0 recruits and probably should join uab and get rid of the football program because there is absolutely no reason for a football player to end up in Norman.

          • EasTex says:

See what the cretin instigates? Punk and pwn.

          • SamSooner says:

Just when I finished laughing at your post above, you come with this. Cretin? classic.

          • EasTex says:

I have a fondness for the classics. LOL

          • SamSooner says:

rph, I wasn’t going after you. Your posts add to the conversation. I apologize if you think I was attacking your grammar. That was poor judgment on my part.

What I was attempting was to have a little humorous banter at the expense of he who must not be named.

          • rphokc says:

ss…….if you notice, my response was directly to mr 00……….I was just reading along and startled to see my ‘name’ called out for several complaints ………..mr dale doesn’t bother me as much as he apparently does some posters……….I get more annoyed by the 2/3 that stalk him, trying to run him off, while continuing to say that it’s ok for anyone to post his/her opinion…………thxs for the note but you have nothing to apologize for regarding me

          • Defend Colfax says:

Read what he posts elsewhere. It’s mostly hate speech. Guy IS scum.

But we’re here to talk football and he seems to get off more on trashing the players. Which is unacceptable. These are kids who play for the university, these students, their efforts are to be respected. It’s painful to see a linebacker in a crimson uniform get tossed to the side or carried for an extra 8 yards and a first down. But as a Sooner I cheer for, respect, and appreciate these kids and my university.

Call the coach, AD, president whatever you want to but I don’t appreciate “fans” disrespecting the student athletes. You don’t own them. They owe you nothing. Stop expecting the world from them or wishing the worst for them. A hell of a lot goes into it all. If they don’t try their best then they can regret it later. Not everyone can be all conference anyway.

          • rphokc says:

            ……..hate speech?…..scum?……..carry on……..merry christmas

          • EasTex says:

BLACKS have been causing dissention and raising h*** since the days the slaves were freed . As a race, they have taken from WHITE America a lot more than they have contributed . Hard to be a productive citizen when all one does is make illegitimate kids , riot for entitlement funds, and pillage, burn, and kill folks when cockroaches lead them down the streets in protests………..

There’s more but i figured thats good enough. This is what he contributes to the world. I consider that scum.

    • Stephen says:

Weren’t we saying the same thing about Quick? He hasn’t burned anyone deep lately. I was high on Newsome. He’s fast, sure. That said, he’s incredibly small. You would have to have a big QB that can see him over the line, something OU doesn’t have or doesn’t seem to be interested in. So, with that said, Newsome isn’t that big of a loss for OU.

  • SamSooner says:

What’s Jonathan Hayes doing these days? Is he still with the Bengals? Special Teams was a well oiled unit under him.

He’d be a great hire, but he’s not coming back to college ball. Never like the recruiting aspect of things. Can’t imagine his long time in the NFL has changed that much.

      • Wilson says:

        Thank you sir!

It’s a shame that game isn’t what it once was.
Many years ago, especially in the 60’s and 70’s there were some great all-star games, the Oil Bowl being the biggest. The other game that featured Texas high school all-stars was the Big 33 game played between Texas and Pennsylvania all-stars and was played for a few years in the 60’s.
The last time that game was played against Texas they hung half a hunnert on them and the Penn fans pelted their coaches with whiskey bottles on the way out. Now the Penn kids play Maryland.

I’m guessing that it’s because he probably is similar in skill set to other WRs already on campus. I’m all about getting LBs, Wheeler and McGinnis, maybe McKee, and all of Gallimore, Campbell and Daniels and or Lampkin and at least 1 more CB. Get all the defensive help we can get.

Judo? Are we using MMA training now?

  • BigJoeBrown says:

Not a recruiting questions but….who do you anticipate returning punts next year. Shepard did it last year, but it seemed like he was never really a threat, his gift is in recieving not so much returning. Although he was very safe with his catches didn’t turn it over. Just curious if people think Sterling Shepard will stay at punt return or if they will find another play that is more of a threat.

    • EasTex says:

      I for one hope not.
I think there will be a number of candidates for that task, not only from some already on the roster but with some newcomers.
I would love to see Aaron Sims in that role.
#14 in white–preferred walk on if somebody doesn’t steal him away.

      • Sooner Ray says:

I really hope this kid can develop to the point of making a difference. I love it when a walk on succeeds, it’s like getting two prizes in your Cracker Jacks.

        • EasTex says:

I like that he is fearless.
Two prizes in a box of Cracker Jacks…good one. I was thinking a double yolk in a large egg.

      • JD says:

either him or his big bro…Westbrook…I think he has the skill too but yeah def Sims if he is sure handed…imagine how hard to put a legal hit on him since he’s so low…he has the same speed as his bro too

        • EasTex says:

I watched him in the state championship game where he was the Offensive MVP. He is fast, fearless, quick and great hands. He is just like Jalen Saunders only smaller.

          • JD says:

Westbrook reminds me of Jalen as well…hopefully one of them gets a shot because seriously I’m not sure we win a few of the games last year without Saunders big returns..bedlam comes to mind…and a few of our close games this season maybe flip to our favor as well

          • EasTex says:

I like what I’ve seen of Westbrook.
Having a PR as a scoring threat is crucial, IMHO.
Saunders killed the Pokes with a PR for a TD in 2012 and ’13.

    • Zack says:

I think it will probably be shep again or another non threat. I don’t know why they didn’t try brooks or smith back there. But stoops cares too much about just gaining possession than he does gaining yards on returns.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Wonder what changed? Saunders, Perkins, etc., we’ve had huge punt returns in the past that have been momentum swings in big games. Would love to see that again.

        • Zack says:

I guess stoops is afraid of a couple muffed punts but less than 100 yards in punt returns this year is embarrassing.

          • EasTex says:

Considering how the season went, I doubt he had enough confidence in the defense to risk a special teams gaff deep in OU territory or in the offense to make up the score. Especially after Shep was out.
Even when Shep was the returner, he never seemed confident in the role.

        • EasTex says:

          Me too.
Saunders was the man, he was aggressive and if the ball touched his hands it wasn’t hitting the ground.

    • Boomer4life says:

It will be whoever can secure the football the best, not about yards with Stoops.

I don’t know if this thread is still active, I may post this on the most recent but from what players are tweeting, it appears Joe Mixon is officially back. No confirmation from the staff or Joe, though.
