* Michael Wilson: Oklahoma seems to be scouring all over for offensive lineman to fill up this 2016 class. One of those prospects the Sooners are targeting is Round Rock (TX) offensive lineman Michael Wilson, who seems to be rising very fast in the eyes of several division one programs. Wilson was offered last week by Oklahoma State, and plans to make his way to Norman this coming weekend for an unofficial visit.

I spoke with Wilson yesterday, who said Bill Bedenbaugh has been in regular contact with him for the last couple of weeks. It’s a new relationship, thus Wilson says that he is still learning about both OU and Bedenbaugh. Wilson did add, however, that OU is a program he would love to play for. If things continue to heat up between the two, an offer from the Sooners certainly isn’t out of the question. Until then, the new relationship is just that…new. As this years class of offensive lineman continues to unfold, we should get a better understanding of just where the Sooners stand in their recruitment of Wilson. – (Brandon)

* Clifford Chattman Jr: OU defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks continues to be a relentless worker on the recruiting trail. And a product of that hard work is the payoff of landing an official visit this weekend from 2016 LSU commit, Clifford Chattman Jr. (New Orleans, LA).

Oklahoma recently offered and as such Chattman said, “they offered, so I am going to visit.” Clifford maintained he is still committed to LSU, but has developed a strong relationship with Cooks and the two speak almost daily. He went on to tell me he likes OU because “they are always competitive.” Chattman also says that OU is recruiting him as an OLB or safety.

With his long frame and athletic ability, you can see why Chattman is such an intriguing prospect with ability to play several different positions. Especially in a league like the Big 12 where long, physical athletes are needed to cover in space against these wide open offenses. Pulling a NOLA kid already committed to LSU, a school with a long history of putting defenders into the league, is typically near impossible, but from my conversation with Chattman I definitely get the sense there is genuine interest in OU on his part. – (Brandon)

* Ashton Julious: Another official visitor for the Texas Tech game is Lackawanna College offensive lineman Ashton Julious. The JUCO big man (6’8″ 330) may remind a lot of people of another massive former Sooners OL in Phil Loadholt.

Julious says he is very, very close with offensive line coach Bill Bedenbaugh and talks with head coach Bob Stoops fairly regularly as well. As of today the only official visit Julious has set up is the one to Oklahoma this weekend, but he says there are plans to visit Florida and Arizona State later on this year. Dates for those visits, however, are still to be determined.

Julious seems high on the Sooners so if the visit this weekend goes well, you can’t entirely rule out the possibility of a commitment. That said, Julious insists he is open and will take the visits those previously mentioned other visits. That said, a good showing by the Sooners this weekend could go a long way towards landing a much needed addition to this 2016 offensive line class. – (Brandon)

Super K is Mullen a realistic get for this class? I saw we were on his “exclusive list”

  • Kelly Gurbcock says:

anything else coming from the Levi Draper camp? and is Michigan starting to take the lead for Caleb Kelly?

    • Jesse says:

If Draper does visit this weekend wouldn’t it be his 2nd unofficial to a game this year? That’s gotta be a good sign. And good question with Kelly.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

I’ve seen nothing negative about Caleb. Soon after his official to Michigan, several predictions changed from Michigan to OU, so I don’t think his official changed his mind. That said, a big game against TCU wouldn’t hurt.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

I still think Kelly ends up at OU as long as Viney sticks around. No Viney. No Kelly.

    • Malicong says:

From what I have read, OU is still in a very good position for Kelly.
Draper has a long way to go and I personally don’t think the OSU commitment sticks.

Thanks guys for all the info you give us everyday , I do have something to say. The Joe Mixon affect still helps the Sooners with recruits in Cali ( Jordan Parker , Mique Juarez )

Thanks for the recruiting notes, Super K.
I have a case of the sad right now, with the realization that we are at the mid point of the season. It has happened so quickly and it won’t be much longer that we get to agonize for months for the next season.

Hey ET! You inspired me to some culinary creativity this weekend. Tried something similar to your nacho tots. It was a casserole: layer of tots, layer of cheese, then fritos, black beans, thick layer of taco meat, cheese, then a top layer of tots. Great stuff! Only thing is that next time I will put the fritos on the top with the tots instead of inside. Food to die for … and maybe of.

It’s just terrible, but this goes thru my head each week…after game one we have played 8.33 percent of our season. After game two 16.66 percent of our season. After game three, 25 percent of our season is gone. I have no idea why I can’t help but think about it that way.

    • Bob Edwards says:

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think if he would just normalize the wave function it would give him the probability distribution of the likelihood of where we are in the season. But if he tries to measure exactly how fast the season is progressing the wave function will collapse and give a nonsensical answer. And there goes his Hilbert Space.

          • Drew says:

Whelp, so much for understanding math. Time to go look up Hilbert Space . . .

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

More quantum mechanics related stuff in there. I started to self edit and delete the post since it would confuse a lot of people and lose the geeky humor. I guess I succeeded in that effort. 🙂

          • Drew says:

I mean, I’m familiar with some of the basics of quantum, but I guess not quite as much as I thought. In my googling, I’ve focused more on particle interactions than the math (though I still find the idea of “color” hilarious, regardless of the validity of the concept).

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yeah, in undergrad school I took a quantum mechanics class but we only progressed up to a point before the heavy duty math kicked in. FWIW – The Hilbert Space is just a tool that allows for vector analysis (ability to compute length & angles) of the particles from the Schrodinger wave equation.

          • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Moreover, the in terms of sad, I wouldn’t rank our current state very highly. We can, however, rank our sad in many different ways and define that rank in many different ways.

For example, we could define the rank or our sad as the smallest common order of any of the possible ways to rank our sad that will yield the original ranking when multiplied together.

Or it could be the largest order of a nonvanishing minor determinant of the ranking of our sad.

Perhaps, we could define the ranking of our sad as the minimum number of dimensions needed to portray the ranking in hyperspace. Of course, this assumes that there are many dimensions that create our sad.

Finally, and I don’t want to leave this one out, we might define the rank of our sad as the number of positive, nonzero characteristic roots of the factors that correlate to produce our sad.

I mean, really, it’s your call.

Hype for the Tech game is done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWV-xWnEafc

  • SoonerfanTU says:

So…..are we worried at all about the defense this week? I know what we did to KSU, but TT will be the first really good passing attack we’ve seen this year, and will be a prep for playing Baylor, TCU, and to some extent even OSU later this season.

I think the personnel change of bringing Johnson in for Byrd is a step in the right direction. I’d like to see us mix up the DL a bit too. We’re missing a Dlineman that can get to the QB on his own. Having Bond back should help, as he has better speed than some of the guys playing in place of him.

I think if we simply don’t blow coverages, and tackle like we did against KSU, we should be okay. I’m interested to see how our DB’s hold up in this game though. Might tell us what kind of chance we might have against Baylor.

    • OUWade says:

I agree. did good things against KSU, but their WRs are pretty bad in addition to their quarterback(s) not being great. Still, like you said, I think they made some steps in the right direction. But yeah, I’m a little concerned about how well the defense can hold up.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

I don’t mean to sound like MS, but I don’t believe it’s realistic we shut them down. I see us giving up 31 points. It’s just up tot he O to score more than that. From what we hear of TT’s defense, that shouldn’t be too tough.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Agreed. My goal wouldn’t be a shutout. I hate giving a point total prediction, b/c turnovers and stuff can affect what I’d consider a good game from the D, but I’d like to hold them to 24-28 points. If we can find a way to do that, I’ll be pretty happy. I know it was just one game, but KU just held them to 30.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

I think we can hold them under 31. KU held them under 31, in fact KU only gave up 10 points in the second half. But they also controlled the clock in the second half.

        • SoonerSpock says:

Against any spread team the best defense is an offense that can put points on the board and control time of possession. Not even Art Briles can score points when the opponent has the ball. Ideally would like 6-7 4-6 minute drives and 35 minutes TOP for the game. That means they get 3 maybe 4 fewer possessions in the ball game which should be worth 14+ points.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

TT will get some yards and points, but the D just needs to get a few stops & turnovers to slow them down. Then our offense really needs to get up tempo and crank out the points. I think 45-31 is likely to be final score with the good guys winning.

      • Exiled In Ohio says:

Running the ball and allowing our defense to rest will be a key.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Not sure that is in LR’s game plan?

          • ccmosaic says:

If the running game clicks I can see Riley running with it.

          • Exiled In Ohio says:

I see LR as a guy who adapts to the situation. Yeah, he is still learning how to call plays that work best with his personnel, but if the OL can start run blocking better, I see him going with that. I believe he knows that to beat Baylor we have to keep their offense off the field.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’ll wait to see how it unfolds. But the essence of the offense is to throw the rock around and mix in the run. If we have success running it will open up the pass even more and I can’t see LR passing up the open pass (no pun intended). His objective is to score and score a lot. I would love to grind it out on the ground and control the game that way, but that style offense isn’t us anymore. JMHO

    • Bob Edwards says:

As good as the Tech O is the D is equally as bad (#122 in Total D, #122 is Rushing D, #114 in Passing yds, #113 in Scoring D). We should only need a few stops to win the game. Still would like to see us do more than that, but for THIS GAME that should be all that’s required.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

Exactly what I’m thinking too. Just a few stops and maybe a turnover or two should be enough. Any more than that would be icing on the cake.

      • metzker says:

Tech is always tough well except jump around year don’t take them lightly fellas BOOMER

    • j l says:

Kansas held taco tech to 30. KANSAS…….

We should hold them to negative 1255

      • ccmosaic says:

I do not even care about that game. TT was looking past Kansas and thinking of OU. TCU held Texas too but we struggled against them. We need to go out and ball-out. We are the better team if we come out with both the O and D firing.

        • j l says:

TCU also struggled mightily against KSU, with no one to look forward to…

Just saying that we have the defense to hold TTU down.

      • Indy_sooner says:

Different team, different schemes. This train of thought doesn’t always serve us well. Every body we play shows up for Oklahoma. It’s a way of life

    • soonermusic says:

I still think it’s a bit of a chess game some of which involves finding the right personnel for the right situation. They may have figured a few things out. We’ll see.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Overton was getting into the backfield quite a bit – even being double teamed! That was sweet!

      • Fear The Magic says:

I think that Overton in the middle with Walker and Dimon would get a great push. Add Bond and Striker and I wouldnt want to be that QB.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

          I like that lineup – a lot.

        • Doobie74OU says:

Yes this will be a major difference playing teams like Baylor, TCU, and Taco Tech this year. The ability to role fresh guys in on the D-line without a huge drop off. The past couple years we did well limiting these teams early but invariable the up tempo wore our D-Line down. Now our 2nd unit is just about as good as our starters. Should help us a lot this year.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’m beginning to wonder if 2nd team isn’t better than starters? Seriously.

          • Doobie74OU says:

This is wonderful problem to have unlike previous years!

          • Okie403 says:

At times they are playing against other teams 2’s or their tired 1’s so OUr 2’s may look a bit better or quicker. Depth…well good depth…is a good thing. Jimmy and Joe can be great but help to have Bobby and Beau that can play too!!

          • DCinAZ says:

I don’t disagree actually. Charles Walker being on the 2nd team seems ludicrous to me. He’s much better than everyone out there IMO.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Exactly. I was thinking about how disruptive Walker and Overton can be. Watching them drive double-teams backwards is an awesome and exciting sight to see. Think Seth Russell would flinch a time or two if we can bust their protection?

        • OuRedRules says:

Overton did look good, he’s hard to handle.

      • BigJoeBrown says:

Looks good for the future that is for sure!

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Agreed. Hopefully he can become a difference maker. I think that, a difference maker on the DL, is the next step in improving our D. A guy like Harris, or McCoy.

    • Doobie74OU says:

I am pretty sure ttu will move the ball between the 20’s and rack up some yards but I think we can limit them to to’s and field goals on several possessions and if our offense plays anywhere close to its potential ttu has no chance of stopping it!

    • OceanDescender says:

I feel like Tulsa is on level with Tech’s offense, and like you said, we’ll have a better secondary on the field for TT than what was out there against TU. Really looking forward to this matchup to see if the defense is legit!

      • SoonerSpock says:

Tusa’s offense scored 24 in lost to Houston, 34 in win over ULM and 17 in loss to ECU. Offensively I think Tech scoring 55+ in five games (TCU 52, Baylor 35, Ark. 35, and ISU 66) has displayed a much stronger offense.

        • OceanDescender says:

I still think Tulsa has a really talented explosive offense that could rival Tech’s regardless of schedule comparison.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

I just cannot help it… Saturday cannot get here quick enough!

    • SoonerfanTU says:

One of the craziest atmospheres at an OU game I’ve been to in Norman. Probably only rivaled by the 2000 Nebraska game. Never seen so many old people “jumping around” in my life. lol

      • Jim says:

It was really cold that night. Everyone was hyper and jumping around to stay warm. That and we had a damn good football team in ’08.

      • Amayetli says:

I was there and by far the most epic game I attended, the tension in the crowd before game was crazy.

  • Will Narramore says:

Is there any news with Amani Bledsoe? Is he close to commiting? 247 has it down to OU and Kansas.. cant imagine us losing to KU on that one

    • Golfluvr13 says:

It is his home town team. That could play a factor in it, plus they have a new coach (and a pretty decent one).

      • KatyOUdad says:

Living in the Houston area, there is a lot of buzz about UH. I think their coach, Tom Herman, will leave after this season or next. Already mentioned at Maryland and S. Carolina. As more spots become open, he will be in demand.

    • Doobie74OU says:

Yeah as said below Ed Oliver a consensus 5* recruit is committed to Houston so he can stay home! I know Houston is probable better than Kansas but also play weaker competition regularly. Ed Oliver could go literally anywhere but so far wants to stay close!

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Houston winning how they have been is going to make it tougher for OU (and others) to lure those kids away. Was hoping they’d lose a few, and make the decision a little easier.

        • Doobie74OU says:

True and Houston is pushing to get in the Big 12 and if that happens(still unlikely at this moment) it will be even tougher.

    • Jordan Esco says:

Not in a hurry from every impression I’ve got.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

It looks like a lot of positions are starting to shape up and OU is in the running for some amazing potential.

But I am curious about the O-line front. It’s been a bit quiet, I can’t help but wonder what Bedenbaugh has up his sleeve or who he is close to committing.

    • Bob Edwards says:

We’ve taken two big classes in the last two. We only lose three seniors this year, that points to a small OL class. We already have one commit. If we have a couple of good likelies, we may just be waiting on the process to work out.

      • OUknowitscomin says:

My thoughts exactly. May be a tougher year to pull in OL with the perceived depth of youth from last couple years. Especially with O.Brown starting to come on strong. Still want all you can, but these kids want early playing time. I look for 2017 being a bigger year for OL.

  • Randy says:

Starting to see what the coaches think they are in need of more and more. Maybe numbers but you have to think scheme wise “who fits what we want to do”.. Both sides of the ball.

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

where do we stand with some of the noncommitted 2016 OL offers right now?

    • Doobie74OU says:

At Tackle we are in pretty good with: Tramonda Moore and still have shots at Kellen Diesch and E J Price. And at Guard we are even money on Johncarlo Valetin and while it has been thought JC OL Aston Julios was a lock for South Carolina which is home. With there recent coaching changes and getting him to campus this weekend maybe we make a decent charge at him as well. Not a comprehensive list just a couple of highlights!

      • Dustin says:

What makes you think we have a shot with E.J. Price?

        • Doobie74OU says:

Nothing! Just saying he was one of the guys that was still considering OU at one point and is not committed yet. We didn’t make his final 3 but crazy things happen all the time! OUr starting Left Tackle was a cast off on signing day from Tennessee. Not saying Price will be just that recruiting is crazy!

  • Troyce Lewis says:

Anyone knows if we have a real shot with Trayvon Mullen? I saw we were in his “exclusive” 13

  • If you aren’t on twitter and didnt see this, well here you go. Great pic of Levi Draper where he played with gash over his eye tat required a lot of stitches. Check out @BrandonTFB’s Tweet: https://twitter.com/BrandonTFB/status/655937715012136960?s=09

Boy, Sammy sure is taking a beating in Philly for going 24/38, 280 yds, a TD, and 3 INTs (61.3 rating) in the win over the giants last night. I’m worried for him. I know throwing 3 picks sucks no matter how you look at it, but some folks want him gone, saying he’s no good, etc., etc. Brutal ….

    • Golfluvr13 says:

This is from the same fandom that boo’d Santa Claus.

      • Slim Sooner says:

Yeah, bad fans in Philly. I really want a great season for Sam.

One of my best friends grew up in Philly, I always give him a hard time about the Santa Claus thing, even though I know the guy was drunker than a skunk. LOL They have some brutal fans, no matter what sport it is. There is no forgiveness with them.

        • OuRedRules says:

Perhaps if Philly could run block it would help Sam out ( and Demarco).

          • SoonerinLondon says:

That game was almost unwatchable. It couldn’t even be called “professional” football. Man, it was bad. Both teams were horrific, especially on offense.

I was waiting for Terico to scream “Oh the humanity”.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Yeah, he made some bad choices last night. Thankfully the INT’s were deep last night and not mid-field, but they were missed scoring opportunites.

      • SoonerSpock says:

I felt the int in the end zone was a case where he tried to give his receiver an opportunity which was a TE and had several inches on the DB and threw a jump ball. If you actually watch the replay you will see the TE caught the ball against the defenders chest and the DB reached up and took the ball away from the TE because he had all of the leverage. Catch was just like the Stanford receivers catch against the back of the defender the previous week only with the DB facing the ball he just ripped it away from the defender.

    • rphokc says:

in my grogginess this am, I happened to catch a little mike&mike and they were not kind to him at all……….they didn’t think he’s any better than sanchez

    • Bill Holder says:

Saw one portion on sports center where they say he is way to careless with the ball when he has defenders about to hit him. Probably comes from all the years playing with the Rams with no protection. Has him gun shy.

      • tfb_fortyseven says:

I think it was his second season where he was the victim of leading the league in sacks … it seemed that year just killed his confidence/faith in those around him, maybe even in himself. He needed to backup Brady. It seems they know the importance of protecting the QB there.

    • OceanDescender says:

Watched the whole game cuz I love watching Murray and Bradford play together. I will say that one of the interceptions happened cuz his receiver inexplicably stopped his route that had killed the Giants on a similar play earlier in the game. The first pick was an overthrow that the TE could’ve jumped for but still an overthrow; the final interception was a bad choice (threw into double coverage on a corner route). He had a better game than those three INTs would have people believe though.

    • CKill1 says:

I’m as big a Bradford fan as anyone, but he has consistently looked like, and played like, he’s scared. I understand that with several surgeries and concussions under his belt that could be understandable but it is what it is. Maybe he’s just not an NFL guy, good as he was in college. Plus, his O-line in Philly isn’t any better than the ones in St Louis were.

      • tfb_fortyseven says:

Yeah, I totally agree. He’s getting hit pretty hard this season too, but at least he’s been getting back up … so far. Wasn’t there even a roughing the passer call on NY last night? Also, his ‘nice guy’ image doesn’t fit with the fans’ reputation in Philly.

        • Walter Sobcek says:

The late hit him on Bradofrod last night was the worst I’ve seen on a QB in years. If that had been inflicted on precious Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers there would have been an uproar. I hope the Giants player who did that gets a heavy fine.

          • tfb_fortyseven says:

Sam may need to speak up for himself, … get Kelly to do something about it or simply go to the media and start griping, not sure though. It totally pisses me off how the opposing team deliberately targets him and get away with it.

      • Birddawg says:

        1) Offense line can’t consistency run the ball making the O one dimensional…which brings predictability. Predictability for NFL D’s creates opportunities to eat the O’s lunch. Turnovers.
        2) His WR’s are bad… 6th in the league passes dropped.
        3) No TE in the middle of field.
        He’s got 3 pass catching RBs..that’s it.
        Not exactly a great situation.

        • OuRedRules says:

They can’t run between the tackles, Demarco gets the ball and runs into a stone wall in the back field. The only time they gain yardage is when he bounces it outside or they run a sweep.

        • tfb_fortyseven says:

I like the way you think ….

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Lane Johnson is back, and the O line is playig better than it did in the first four games. Bradford seems to be trying to guide the ball rather than really throw it. Hopefully that will change as he gets more comfortable. He made a few bad passes last night. His receivers do not seem to get open.

      • OuRedRules says:

Pat Fisher never met a defensive player that he didn’t want to draft in the first five rounds. Bradford had no line, no receivers, and no running backs. He was constantly running for his life. Plus, didn’t the Rams lead the league in dropped passes for like three years in a row? Philly seems to drop a lot of passes as well and their stupid penalties really puts Sam in a hole.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

He didn’t look good last night. One INT on the WR for stopping the route, but all in all he missed stuff and had a bad INT in the endzone. Probably won’t be back in Philly without a second half of the season with at least 6 wins and a Playoff berth

      • tfb_fortyseven says:

I don’t get the ‘one and done’ attitude he’s getting from Philly fans after only 6 games with some serious turnover occurring in the offseason with those not-named Sam/DeMarco. I also don’t get how 24/38, 280 yards with the 63% completion percentage – not including the 3 to the other team – doesn’t get him a little slack … just a little. Once again, it seems he’s in a no-win situation.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yes he is. Philly fans are the worst. He might be better off elsewhere anyway

          • Golfluvr13 says:

The Chiefs need a QB! LOL

          • metzker says:

            Cowboys

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Them too. But I would not want to play for Jerry. He sticks his nose where it does not belong to often.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

            Chiefs need a lot! UGH

          • Golfluvr13 says:

True, their offense is out for the season with Jamaal Charles out. He is like 80% of their offense. And Alex Smith just is not very good.

          • OuRedRules says:

            Losing Charles didn’t help.

          • Birddawg says:

            Yes, we do!
Not likely to change for next season. AS just got a new contract and the coaching staff has excuses.. Oline, no wr depth.. blah blah.
If no qb for our top 5 pick.. Probably a LT.
My fav pick is Vernon Hargreaves. pair him with Marcus peters and Phillip Gaines. That’s 3 legit cover guys in a passing league.

          • connie usa says:

And how do you know this? The media?
The fans (I live in a Philly suburb) want to win. When you haven’t won since 1960, there is alot riding on this team. How are Oklahoma fans when the Sooner’s lose? Seems like they all want the Stoops brothers fired. My point is this; ALL FANS WANT THEIR TEAM TO WIN.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Philly beat a rival last night. Should be some ecstasy going on.

          • connie usa says:

Lots. Sammy didn’t play well, but as long as the Eagles win, they’ll be on Sammy’s side.
Personally, I LOVE having 3 Sooner’s on offense. I’m a Sooner fan FIRST, and an Eagle’s fan second.

          • OuRedRules says:

No Connie, we just want Mike fired. LOL. Get some olineman that can run block between the tackles and receivers that can catch the ball.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

            “TouchDown Kansas City?”

        • connie usa says:

Where are you getting your info? I live in a suburb of Philly. Nobody is happy with three BAD interceptions. The fans won;t run him out of town unless they don;t make the playoffs.

          • tfb_fortyseven says:

Reading what’s available to me via the web Connie. So, you’re making my point: One season and he’s done IF they don’t make the playoffs. Those are very lofty expectations. Remember Nate Hybl? That boy threw picks too, but he ended up being the Rose Bowl MVP when they beat Wash State. He guided OU to a 12-2 record that year, and he even threw 4 INTs vs Texas in that year’s RRS, which OU won ‘cuz Simms threw 3. (http://www.sports-reference.com, and go to OU’s 2002 season) Were Sam’s picks really that BAD though? They were all downfield throws that the giants did not convert into points. On one the receiver kinda sorta quit his route, and on another he didn’t get the ball up enough for his big receiver to grab, jump-ball style. I believe the third was BAD, but my point is Sam’s mistakes did not cost Philly the game. The outpouring of grief on Sam tells me Philly’s expectations are not a match for Sam’s abilities in Kelly’s system, hence, the one-and-done.

        • KJ1123 says:

Its his first year in this system. He has some good weapons just hasn’t found that good chemistry yet. It’s hard to jump into Chips system and be successful immediately. Plus they need a better WR1 and a solid slot. Mathews has had some stone hands a few times this season. I think SB will be fine, the defense is looking really good too.

        • JB says:

He’s in Philadelphia. That is a no-win situation.

      • pag says:

The guy is shaking off the rust, he hasn’t played that much pro football if you consider how many games he’s played. I think he can clean this up. Still 3 INTs are too many. But i believe in King Sam

    • SoonerinLondon says:

He didn’t look good, and hasn’t really outside of one preseason game.

This week in the NFL, LJ > SB.

    • Dick Bump says:

It seemed like the coverage was pro Giants from the get go. Sam didn’t exactly blow it up last night, but they won. They were ragging on Murray and he had decent numbers. They just seemed very pro Giants last night. Maybe the offense will start to click. The defense looked fairly good. The Eagles are currently leading their division. Winning cures all.

    • Thomas Lenard says:

It’s a Fantasy Football world…..Wins mean nothing anymore when looking at a single player. His 3 INTs lost him fantasy points and that seems to be all that matters anymore. Eye test means nothing as well. Look at the stat sheet and plug in the points.

      • Dick Bump says:

Interesting. I didn’t even consider that side of it. I guess fantasy football is pretty big.

  • Jeff says:

So OU will take 2-3 more DB’s?

    • Doobie74OU says:

Thought they have said here at TFB that they would take 1 more DB if it was the right guy but with 3 CB’s and 1 Safety they were pretty comfortable. That doesn’t account for injuries or players leaving to open spots but 4 DBs out of a small class(heard as low as 18 if no attrition happens) is a good number.

    • Zack says:

They might have some indications of guys leaving. Maybe they need to worry about JT graduating in 3 years and leaving early? Also I think it would be wise for Taylor to look at moving to wr

  • Glocal Sooner says:

Do we have any updates on the OL that we’re currently recruiting for 2016?
    -Johncarlo Valentin
    -Garett Bolles
    -Tramonda Moore
    -Denzel Okafor
-EJ Price (think I saw that we weren’t in his top whatever)
    -Willie Allen
    -Kellen Diesch
    -Richard Merritt
    -Jauan Williams
-Jean Delance (we’ve received regular updates on him)
-Greg Little (still no shot with him?)
Those are all pretty highly ranked guys. If we’re OLine U, we should be able to land 1-2 of those.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Should continue to get better. I’ve noticed him playing more offense this season, TE and split.

      • KJ1123 says:

I was thinking that when I watched his film, he’s going to be pretty awesome to watch when he becomes a senior. Totally stands out on the field.

      • KJ1123 says:

Caleb and Bryce 2016 and Levi 2017 would make for a pretty nice LB core in 2018.

        • Cush Creekmont says:

Some pretty good LB prospects are OUr Frosh right now too! A couple would be Jr or Sr in 2018. Hopefully those 3 you mentioned would still come to OU and the 2015 pair can develop “after we fire Kish” s/ :):):).

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

          Dont forget DeBerry

        • JB says:

Amen! Landing Caleb Kelly and Bruce Youngquist would be aa major coup considering Stanford, USC, and UCLA are in his relative backyard. They would make for 2 of the best recruits at LB OU has signed since Calmus and Lehman. I also think Jon Michael Terry is a vastly underrated player (as was Lehman). I base that statement on gut feeling more than objective evaluation, but the last time I had that gut-feeling was when we got a commit from a then-two star prospect named Teddy Lehman out of Ft. Gibson, OK.

    • Jason Vos says:

KJ what you hearing about Jordan Evans? Will he play

      • KJ1123 says:

Haven’t heard anything this week yet. They only had walkthroughs yesterday. Maybe get some news today.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Lose, and people talk about the loss for the next 6 days. Win? One day of discussion and 5 days of silence. 🙂

      • Cush Creekmont says:

Just like the Terminator – they’ll be back!

I’m not sure if I can come back – I think Soonerfandave84 fired me.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

I questioned Mike Stoops too, i didnt bash OU but I did question the defensive intensity

      • Slim Sooner says:

Excellent. I chuckled. A troll named “Homer”.

    • Slim Sooner says:

That win was the best! I want another one.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Silence gives consent. (Or the uneasy feelng that no one is listenening.)

    • ouwooferman says:

yeah there are a few that need to show up and eat their crow.

    • JB says:

If it seems that others aren’t talking after KSU, perhaps it may be due to the horrible loss to UT which was a reality check to some who thought this team was better than it really is.

As for me, I’m still talking about it and thrilled as hell by the win. I love blowouts and shutouts.

Mayfield was his usual exceptional self–and BTW, he was one of two bright spots I saw in the Texas game even if he didn’t have 400 yards and only had the one pass TD. He didn’t throw a pick, didn’t fumble, and he completed 71% of his passes. He gave us a chance to win in the end but the (lack of) defense made that task impossible.

I thought the defense played great against KSU, and while Sanchez got 2 picks, I was more impressed by Jordan Thomas. He is our best cover CB, hands down. This coming weekend will show if the defense turned a corner or if they just faced an easy KSU offense to defend. Huebener and Cook won’t be mistaken for Russell or Boykin by anyone, so we’ll see if they can do the same kind of damage to Mahomes’ passing game.

Here is hoping they replicate to some degree last week’s performance and that Mike doesn’t revert to dropping 8 into coverage while mahomes has all day to wait for a receiver to come open while he faces no pass rushing threat from only 3 DLs.

      • Oscar says:

Offense didn’t put the defense behind the 8 ball.
Give Baker time and he’ll hit receivers. (O line stepping up)
Use all parts of the field and give players space to make plays/moves
Don’t give the opponents defense time to set up and call plays.
        Success

    • tfb_fortyseven says:

The media backlash after the texas loss was amazing. I cannot explain why the hate was so intense and prolific … I mean WTH???

  • DCinAZ says:

The one name I keep not seeing in these recruiting updates, unless I’m missing it, is Diron Reynolds. I know a couple of recruits were in town and spoke about him being “real laid back”. Any status on where we are with his recruits?

    • Glocal Sooner says:

Fairly quiet in general regarding all coaches not named Kerry Cooks. Been a few updates written recently about Marcell Southall and Chris Daniels from the DL, that’s about all.

    • JB says:

About a week ago, TFB mentioned Coach Reynolds and his relationship with a recruit or two. I don’t remember which one(s) though as I’ve slept since then.

      • Brien Brown says:

I believe he is building a relationship with guys like Oliver, Agim, Elliot, Clayton, Jones, Daniels which I think there was a write up on Daniels liking Reynolds, Bledsoe, and Southall which again I believe said he liked Reynolds also. I remember something being written up about one of the recruits saying he was a lot like Monty was in personality and the vibe he gave off. I think we want guys to commit now but we know Stoops and his staff are great at closing so I expect the same I am sure we will lose some battles and win some we may not think we can we always do.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I remember reading where Urban Meyer said not everyone on staff is a great recruiter. Some recruit, some coach, some can recruit and coach. Hence, perhaps DR is like more like Kish and MS, than LR, C Gundy and Cooks.

      • DCinAZ says:

I’m sure that’s true. I was concerned about his recruiting ability when he was hired due to his lack of experience in recruiting.
I’m just wondering how we’re going to fare in DE and DL recruiting considering Monty recruited all of our DEs and DL last year and we don’t have any DL or DEs at all committed at this point in 2015.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

Just saw that Barry Switzer’s son is battlng West Nile virus? Man, that’s tough. Hope he fully recovers.

  • KJ1123 says:

    Just seeing this now…
“Any time you beat Bob Stoops, I like it a lot,” Finebum said

    • tfb_fortyseven says:

And anytime I see Finebaum, I want to rip off his ears.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

He hates that OU beat Bama, and Tennessee twice in the last three years. OU is one of the few schools that have proved how overrated the sec is.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

But then there would be nothing left but a small pair of shoes.

    • SamSooner says:

That’s a lot of hate for a man he never interacts with. Stupid phinebalm.

      • KJ1123 says:

Yeah really, it’s like….why would you personalize it like that? Makes him look like the idiot he is.

        • ccmosaic says:

He is a huge Alabama fan. Stoops has never lost to Alabama. This is not about good journalism this is simply about being butt hurt. I hate Texas and want Charlie Strong to loose every game this year. Finebum hates Oklahoma and Stoops. Very simple.

    • OuRedRules says:

Heard that too when watching the show, what a f***ing tool. I can’t stand Finebaum. I can’t believe he can say that s**t on a supposedly neutral sports station.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

He is the ugliest Azzhat that ever crossed a TV screen – and there isn’t even much HAT. The next time he says something intelligent, it will be the first time.

    • DrewChubbs says:

I saw that Sunday morning. I fell asleep on the couch with the TV on, and when I woke up ESecPN’s CFB Sunday show was on. That guy is an assgasket. I did notice that the hosts of the show were a little shocked by his comments, though, and tried to move past his statement as quickly as they could. There were some chuckles, but not commentary on it.

    • eastoksooner says:

It seems for Bob to be “irrelevant” as Finebaum says, He sure does talk about Bob a lot doesn’t he?

    • DCinAZ says:

He’s just playing to his idiot audience. SEC fans universally hate Bob Stoops because of the comments he made about that conference and his ability to back it up on the field. Finenbaum uses it to fire up his moron listeners with his fake Bob Stoops hatred. It’s all part of the show.

      • Bob Edwards says:

You have it correct. He likes to find bee hives and whack them with a stick just to cause some action. One day he will whack the Barners. The next day the Bammers. He’ll do it to anyone else if it drives up his ratings.

    • OohRah Mama says:

But…why? Methinks Finebaum spends an indecent amount of energy & obsessive thought about Stoops. It’s a bit creepy. Stoops is really in this twit’s head, isn’t he?

  • Katyboomer says:

Anybody happen to see kingsberry Kansas post game. He really makes you thankful we have Stoops. He Kingsberry says ” I thought our (TT) receivers are more mature than that and thought they would play better than they did”, ” our (TT)quarterback didn’t play well at all” ,”I thought I coached the offense better then that at practice, obviously I didn’t” talk about throwing your players on the bus. So glad he’s not our coach!!

    • KJ1123 says:

Yeah I watched it, I dont think too much of him, he’s probably a good x’s and o’s guy, but he comes off wrong imo. It’s like hey you’re not a player anymore, get over it and coach.

      • Katyboomer says:

I hope he’s not a sign of what future coaches will be like. If he wants to talk about immature he should look in the mirror,he’s a very immature coach!

    • Hunter Frantz says:

yeah he is kind of a prick. After the Arkansas game he smarted off to Bielema (who admittedly talks too much) because of a comment he made unrelated to Kingsberry. Also, I remember when Mayfield transferred, the whole situation gave me the feeling BM was unhappy there for a reason.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I’ve seen several interviews with Kliffy. None of them made me feel like he was a mature person. He always seems to come off as an absolute jerk. If he were recruiting my child, I would not allow him in my home, nor would I allow my child to play for him.

  • Recondo says:

Spent about 10 minutes looking at some TTU forums and decided to share the following:
    1- My brain hurts.
2- They believe this is some huge rivalry game.
    3- Total lack of class.
4- They believe they are elite.
5- Most are stuck in 2008.
6- Contrary to the rules of logic and mathematics, Mayfield is a terrible QB.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Man, you’re gonna get some sand chiggers hanging around there.

    • Bob Edwards says:

      1. Intelligence is like water, it tries to find a common level. What you are feeling is the IQ points being sucked out of your brain. Too much longer and you may have to be on a reality show, or even worse watch them all day long.

      2. We are everyone’s rival.

      3. They fired Mike Leach, what else do you have to know.

      4. No

      5. It’s the closest they ever came to winning anything in the B-12, a shared south division championship.

      6. You are talking about people who wouldn’t give a scholarship to the Freshman Offensive Player of the Year. The may not be rocket scientists, but they do know a lot about sand.

    • Hunter Frantz says:

I know what you mean. You should see the thread on ESPN.com. Tech fans our out of control with hype right now.

    • DCinAZ says:

      LOL!!!!! Poor ESecPN.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Why don’t they just come out and say the LHN is kicking our arse?

      • DCinAZ says:

People pulling the plug on cable companies and converting to stream only is what’s kicking their arse. Due to cable channel bundling, ESPN has gotten lots of welfare money paid to them over the years by people who don’t watch ESPN because it’s part of every cable channel bundle. If you have ESPN, you pay their fee whether you watch it or not as part of your cable or satellite bill.

        • Sooner Ray says:

What you say is true, I just didn’t want to type that much. They are losing their butt on the LHN though.

    • SamSooner says:

I’ve been singing this on here for a while, now: one day the executives at ESPN are going to wake up and realize that no one wants their product.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I don’t know that this is a big deal. Very often big companies have 5-10% layoffs. Those usually aren’t as much about finances as they are using the finances as an excuse to get rid of the dead wood. It’s easier to layoff one hundred people than it is to fire one because of the labor laws.

  • SamSooner says:

I just watched the K-State game again. Mixon is a good looking back and he’s close to breaking one.

I don’t know why people are saying OU is not running the ball well: they had 232 yards rushing between all three backs.

    • Sooner Ray says:

We are getting some yards on the ground because we have some VERY good running backs, but how good do you feel right now about 3rd and 3 or 4th and 1 if we HAD to run between the tackles? We have a running game but it is hurting on the inside and the alignment in this “air raid” doesn’t help it much.

      • SamSooner says:

        Sooner Ray, what’s up?

The thing that I’ve noticed with Riley’s offense, and Riley in particular, is that the whole playbook is always on the table. I know up the middle is the shortest distance, be we have some pretty good tackles.

Our best runs have come from the outside. But the way the offense is run, the entire playbook is always open.

        • Sooner Ray says:

I think Riley is starting to figure out the “mesh” between the type of backs we have vs. the O line in front of them and how it all works within his system. It isn’t always pretty right now but the potential is a beautiful thing.

      • rphokc says:

didn’t watch the game but saw a bit of the replay sun……….saw we got down to the 2 yd line twice, 1st and goal and couldn’t punch it in, settled for field goals….the oline and backs got stuffed repeatedly

        • Sooner Ray says:

It was frustrating to watch. I think by then they knew they could win but I still want to see them go all out. If they really were giving it their best shot then we will be in trouble down the road.

          • EasTex says:

They don’t call it goal line defense for nothing. The DL submarines the OL, giving the LBs and DBs a clear view of the play and where the RB is.
Attack the perimeter with speed, the percentages of running it up the middle in those situations is very low, though it would help if we had a good blocking TE and a Ripkowski.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That was my point in a way, it was very vanilla up the middle and I think Stoops just didn’t want to do any more than necessary against his mentor. It was all he could do to keep it under 60.

      • EasTex says:

The 3rd and 3 is doable, but hate running between the tackles on 4th and 1. Each gap is covered by the defense, go over or around them on those occasions.

      • Hunter Frantz says:

Knowing that KSU had the BIG 12s leading rush D, we did very well against them. But you are right about short yard situations. That fast tempo we used really helped us get it going I think. Our line was playing fast and if they made a mistake it was a full speed as opposed to them sitting in a hole confused. I been saying this awhile now, this run game will get better and better as the year goes on. It looked much improved last week. Now with three of the worst Ds in the league up next, I think we’ll really get it going in a groove and read for the final stretch…hopefully and likely.

      • DCinAZ says:

I think as raw as our Oline is right now, we should install a power I package for short down situations.

the bu game last yr, they got down inside the 5 one time and put a huge lineman in the backfield as the lead blocker and just went straight into the ez……….not the first time I’ve seen that but it seems to escape ou trying that for some reason

If we were averaging that yardage per game, no one would say that.
      Mixon is Studley McStudmuffin, fo’sho’.

      Sam, dropping the other shoe.

That’s just the type of kid Justin is,
he wanted to be the one to tell
      his teammates,
his fellow classmates, the seniors he’s grown up
      with,
that his high school career is over.
It was a sad day for us here.

There’s a lot of love and respect on that team. It is cultivated by the HC with an off season program called “The Mav Maker.” It is a skill and leadership building program that each team mate has to perform perfectly or the entire team has to continue each day until they are all perfect. This team accomplished it in three days. Three years ago when the HC first arrived it took them a week and a half.

I’m going to read the rest tomorrow. I have get up early to get Max to swim practice and it’s already approaching midnight here.

I’ll follow up with you tomorrow.

You have a great night, sir.

        • EasTex says:

          You too, bud.
I’m heading to the Lazy Boy myself. These past three days have kicked my ample and firm gluteus.
