– Team News | Marcus Green : Not entirely sure what it means, if anything, but I was told redshirt freshman cornerback Marcus Green is not back in Norman as of yet. – (Super K)
– Xavier Kelly: As we mentioned in Monday’s Open Post, stud 2016 DE Xavier Kelly (Wichita, KS) visited Oklahoma yesterday. If you’re thinking he looks huge in that picture, you aren’t wrong. He measured in at around 6’5″ 230 lbs this past March and when we caught up with him earlier today, Kelly said he’s now up to 255 lbs! Kelly also told TFB he will definitely be back for an OUÂ game this fall.- (Super K)

– Tre Brown: Myself, Alex & Brandon were all at the Michigan/USC camp yesterday in Dallas. I know a lot of folks may disagree with me on this, but I sometimes feel like seeing someone in a camp situation distracts from the evaluation of the player. It still comes down to film for me, but I’ll offer a few thoughts on what we saw nonetheless.
The camp was full of quality talent. Despite the speed of many of the DBs there, in our estimation Brown appeared to be the fastest. He really does have elite speed. And I know everyone already knows that but since it’s so critical at the CB position, it’s worth repeating over and over.
It’s important to note that right now, Brown is really just succeeding on raw talent. Whether he sees the route or doesn’t, he has the quickness to break on anything inside or outside. When he starts to see the routes earlier, I really don’t know how anyone he’s defending will be able to get open. As he develops his skill at the position with respect to spacing, transitions, etc., he has the potential to be down right filthy. That’s obviously going to take some work on his part but the thing we all noticed yesterday is that as athletes, the Oklahoma kids didn’t take a back seat to anyone. In fact, they were probably superior to most of the TX kids that were there. But you can tell the TX kids are getting private skill development and camp-style repetitions that some of the OK kids simply aren’t.
Brown, along with a few other OK Preps kids, also took a visit to TCU prior to the camp where they met with Gary Patterson. – (Super K)
– Quindon Lewis: Southmoore 2017 DB Quindon Lewis was also at the Dallas camp yesterday and while I’ve always like his film, I was still a bit unsure about his feet, speed, and short area quickness. But after watchign him some yesterday, he put some of those concerns at ease.
He did a nice job of reading routes and getting out of his breaks. Lewis is a pretty long kid and has plenty of room to develop physically, which should only add to his speed. In person he was much lighter on his feet than he appears on film, but again I prefer to see it on film because people move different with their pads on. The thing about Lewis is he’s always in a position to make a play on the ball. He more than held his own from an athletic standpoint and made it very difficult for receivers to get out of their breaks. He’s a really intelligent, savvy player. He both plays and transitions high, but even with that there is some real upside.
I’d love to see him play some safety this season. Something about the way he naturally reads route progressions makes me feel like he has the eyes for the position and would certainly bring some good length and cover ability. – (Super K)
– Levi Draper: His film is excellent so I didn’t really watch him too much yesterday. But I saw him in a tackle (or really more touch as it were) LB vs. RB drill and man alive he closed the space fast. Fundamentally sound, feet moving, and he didn’t hesitate to close that gap (something I wish we’d see more of from certain OU linebackers). Draper is a long kid no doubt, he should easily carry 240 lbs at the next level. He is well put together but still somewhat thin and already weighs 220 lbs. – (Super K)
– Blake Williams: Williams may be the best player you’ve never heard of. He is a 2016 tight end out of Mustang, OK. But due to a health issue, he hasn’t be able to play football the past couple years. He has been recovering, however, and TFB he should be 100% by the end of the summer.
And yet despite having missed all of that time, Williams recently attended a UNC camp and earned an offer on the spot. How did he do it? Well, it certainly didn’t hurt that he measured in at around 6’4″ 225 lbs and ran a 4.58 forty. I have seen some of the camp footage and from the look of it, Williams appeared to be one of the more fluid TEs you’ll come across.
I first heard about Williams from a friend of mine last year, who was working a camp the Mustang product attended. The friend was actually an All-American at Cal and called me to rave about Williams’ performance. The next time I heard about him was from our own Alex, a couple months ago. He had seen a few clips of game film (Williams couldn’t play much, as we alluded to above, but there were still a couple of brief clips) and just that brief glimpse, Alex came away impressed.
Despite having limited film Williams is just so fluid for a kid his size, I feel very confident in saying the Tar Heels are likely just the first of many offers in his future. There’s just enough film to see how natural he looks on the field. It won’t surprise me if Williams picks up more offers this summer just on potential alone. When he finally gets to play a full season this year, I think he could turn a lot of heads. – (Super K)

First twice in one day.
or is it twice first in one day. ; )
First thrice in one day.
Mustang has been getting more and more talented lately. Love to see Oklahoma kids doing well.
Who knows, hopefully they may be the ones to take out Jenks/Union and end the monopoly.
Not gonna happen any time soon.
My apologies if this question has already been answered…What’s the latest on Dalton Wood?
No new developments. Still not on campus, presumably dealing w/ whatever “personal issues” both caused the delay in his initial arrival and then prompted him to leave shortly after actually reporting to campus.
Hmmm…Hopefully this situation will be resolved and the young man can continue his journey @ OU. Thanks for answering my question!
Happy to do it đ
What type of issue kept him out of football for 2 yrs?
Medical/health issue that the doctors finally figured out. He is expected to make a full recovery

Well, if Michigan and USC are conducting camps in Dallas, maybe we should do the same in LA and Ann Arbor. Of course, there’s not as much talent in Michigan as Texas or CA.
I like the point you make, K, that athletically, OK kids are, in large part, at the very least the equal to tejas kids. It comes down to some coaching, maybe a bit better competition in some cases, iron sharpens iron, and some kids are getting outside coaching. And there are just more kids so odds of more ‘elite’ kids to draw recruiters in to see them all.
Heard Casey from two sources that 2018 Southmoore QB Casey Thompson had a very good showing today.
I was there. He put up a great showing today and michigan camp yesterday. Harbaugh was all about Casey. Same goes for Lincoln Riley today. He is gonna be very sought after!
Hope Blake gets a look from the good guys. Great TEs are a huge boost to young QBs, he could become an Austin Kendall hot read on every play.
Ok will someone please knock on the powers that be doors for OU recruiting and tell them to get their head out of their butt and offer Levi Draper already?
I can already see this coming back to haunt us some day if they dont do that soon.
I’ll jump on this bandwagon.
Yeah, I don’t know what the hold up is. It’s not like we have a line of 4 star inside guys beating down the doors. I would love to be a fly on the wall and hear what’s going on with his recruitment (at OU).
I think Levi Draper has already well surpassed being this year’s McKinley Whitfield for you guys & gals.
Which is not to say you’re unjustified in your frustrating/bewilderment/whatever, far from it. I’m right there with you in that OU seemingly slow-playing this kid makes less than zero sense.
I just can’t help but chuckle at how often his name tends to be brought up ’round these parts.
No, I still think there was far more anger and frustration over not offering Whitfield than over draper thus far. Perhaps it was because Whitfield was about to be a SR. And where did he end up? Nobody offered the “can’t-miss McKinley Whitfield”. Hmmm. Again, if it makes”less than zero sense” for the OU coaches to take a wait-and-see attitude on Draper, there are tons of other staffs that are doing the exact same thing. Didn’t he just visit Clemson and didn’t you guys say that he was likely to pick up an offer while on that visit, Clemson has a ton of ’17 offers extended, just like we and everyone else does, but very few have offered Draper. Perhaps there is a reason
This is a kid in your backyard(ish) who is only continuing to garner more and more attention, if not actual offers (yet), from schools. The longer you wait, the more likely IMO you create to wide a gap to make up.
I mean the kid just turned down a chance to camp w/ OU to instead camp at Kansas.
Holy crap!! I guess i hadn’t heard he passed on the OU camp to go camp at Kansas. That’s really bad……
If he went to the kansas camp over OU then it’s pretty obvious the two parties are on different pages
He didn’t work out at the Kansas camp. They just wanted to offer in person I believe. It seems he has a good relationship with the Kansas staff.
As K state, he did not workout. Put on a show at Michigan camp yesterday. Michigan. And USC staff are big fans of his. No one was at offered at UM Dallas camp yesterday.
Schools that offered McKinley Whitfield:
Tulsa (committed)
Arkansas St.
Army
Houston
LA Monroe
Louisville
Memphis
Minnesota
Navy
New Mexico
Purdue
Southern Miss
Utah St.
Wyoming
Thanks for making my point. Impressive list for a guy that most on here including Jordan and Super K were going nuts that OU hadn’t offered. Please…add OU to that list and then tell me which offer stands out as the oddball offer.
Why would I care about who offered him? I like the kid so I advocate for him. I don’t care who Coach Mike Stoops likes anymore than he cares who I like. No disrespect either way.
Not trying to be critical, but last summer you stated on several occasions that OU should offer Whitfield. I recall several back and forth we had over him.
I did indeed. That’s my opinion and they had a different opinion. No big deal.
I’d also respectfully disagree that I was “going nuts” that OU didn’t offer McKinley, or for that matter that OU hasn’t offered Draper.
I don’t get all that invested in who OU does or doesn’t offer. I have some opinions, much like everyone else, and on occasion I’ll offer them. But I’m not really one to get emotional about it.
I guess I misinterpreted your level of concern about how the coaches were slow playing Draper. When you said it made less than “zero sense” that they hadn’t offered yet, I took that to mean you felt he should have an offer. Silly me.
All of opinion are based on less info than the coaching staff has. We don’t necessarily know any behind the scene conversations. Thus there is no reason for anyone to go nuts over the recruiting of any kid.
Some on the internet get excited over anything and everything. I appreciate getting opinions of people who’ve scene a kid play or watched his film, but I don’t take it as a comprehensive evaluation.
By the way, why would a kid visit KU over attending OU’s elite camp, especially if Clemson and Bama have expressed interest (no offer). It’s simple, he needs to keep all options open.
So, that’s 3 P5 offers for McKinley? Draper has 7 already. I don’t think comparing the two players is very prudent.
Dustin, I never compared the 2 as players. Just the message board hysteria. Also, I don’t get to hyped by their conference, but rather what schools offered. Kansas is in a power 5 conference.
I smell what you’re cookin’. I was just speaking in generalities. IMO, Draper’s film impressed me. Whitfield’s didn’t. Personally, I think he signed about where he should be. That’s just me. Opinions vary. As far as the hysteria goes, I think it’s obvious Levi is a damn good player and is going to get an OU offer eventually. Many people thinking, “If we’re gonna offer at some point, why not do it now?”
He hasn’t visited Clemson just yet. He’ll be at Alabama this weekend. I personally like the fella quite a bit. Really hard working and competitive. Not gnu shy at all and has great size.
Great potential to fill out his size as well….
Do you know if he has done his unofficial to Bama yet? I’m hoping an offer from Nick will get the attention of the OU coaches.
Been told something re: Draper & Bama but not sure if the family wants it out there, so I’ll have to refrain. I can say it’s my understanding he has yet to make the trip to Tuscaloosa, but I believe plans to do so soon.
Thanx. My hope is that an offer is extended so that a major program is showing interest. Maybe then the OU coaches will. I can’t evaluate talent like the coaches can but I like the idea of homegrown talent playing for OU.
He has not made the visit. Its this Saturday. He was offered by Kansas today.
I don’t feel like I’m in on the secret on this recruit. I think he’s 2017… Is he the best linebacker to ever play the game and that’s why it’s a travesty that OU hasn’t offered? And I feel like some 2017 LB offers have already gone out too. I feel like I’m so late to this party haha.
USA! Men’s national soccer team goes up 2-1 in the 88th minute against the world champion Germans. A couple more minutes guys, come on!
I didn’t get to watch, but regardless of it being a friendly, HUGE win for the good guys!
Hopefully they will have a replay later.
I don’t care that it was a ‘friendly’ and that Germany was sitting most of its defenders. ANY time you beat Germany, it’s a big ass win!
Wow.
Wow.
Watched the entire game. Germany dominated the first 35 min and looked unstopable. USA turned it around and dominated the 2nd half.
Germany played only 3 regulars: Ozil, Gotze, and Schweinsteigger. Wait, where is my umlaut key?
PS – I took 3 years of German at OU and spent a summer as an exchange student at the Univ of Munster. Went to a game at BVB 09 Dortmund versus Hamburg SV. I love Deutschland fussball! Saw a VA license tag that was BVB 09 recentlly. Was very surprised.
Great win for the USA!!!
curious………why are they playing at all……..some sort of tourney?
International friendly is a great way to work on team unity and expose your weaknesses to work on. Most of these guys have never played on the same field together other than opponents in league ball.
ok, they’re just playing for the helluvit and for practice……….thxs
Munster is such a great city! I rep for a company out of Bramsche, about 30 mins away and typically stay in Munster when I’m there.
Somebody is missing from the cartoon mugshots up there.
I think they are still going over photos trying to find his good side. đ
Or the good end
The is a little off topic but it is always fun to revel in the misery that is Texass…

What a get that would be!
Bob’s been looking smaller lately. đ
LOL!
Bob’s OU football hat is pretty cool, though. Guess he wears that for certain recruits.
G-Day minus 87
I hope this guy has a huge year!
Dont know if its been posted anywhere, but kendall got an invite to the elite 11 semi’s, 1 of 30 invited.
I thought they were in the process of announcing the finalists?

this link says hes invited, but who knows if its accurate or not.

That was for the semi-finals this past weekend he didn’t ?make the final
ahh my bad. thanks for the clarification.
He didn’t make it.
Who’s running TFB’s Twitter account? “uve” gotta be kidding me!
Most annoying thing about Twitter is the 140 character limit. Literally encouraging millions of people to build a habit of making grammatical errors to be more concise haha.
Another reason to stay out of the ‘twittersphere’. I would lose my damn mind if I read that crap all day.
You might get people like me on there that you can teach grammar lol
This guy……..
It’s certainly a social media format that is an acquired taste.
Nah, fyn w/me.
Super K, I couldn’t agree more regarding evaluating talent and how it works with camps. I’ve seen numerous guys perform poorly (or very average) at camp, and it didn’t match up with their film. While camps are important to a degree, the film doesn’t lie…ever. I put much more stock in film than camps. Good to see I’m not alone.
Just curious but has there been any new development regarding Lampkin?
Look’s like texas is trying to stipulations on where he can transfer, read between the lines that means they don’t want him coming to Oklahoma.
Not surprised. Thanx!
Can they do that? In my reading of the rule, once the NLI is void, he is free to go where he chooses.
Here is something I found interesting on Texsa academics and athletes.

Perhaps Lampkin is wise to avoid the language courses, they may have been “recommended” by Texsa.

Thanx. Couldn’t read the article. Had to subscribe to the Chronicle to gain access. Don’t recall where I saw it, but I understand Texas is trying to limit what schools he can transfer to. I thought once his NLI was voided, he was free to go anywhere.
Camps are more likely an indicator of maximum performance. Film (i.e., games) is more likely an indicator of typical performance.
I would like to post on the OKLA kids. I think it just depends on the kid. In many years elite teams didn’t recruit Some Union and Jenks kids becusee they felt they were tapped out and had been coached to their potential. Then you have guys like Tre Brown.
Tre is raw in everything he does. In Track he is running better times but his running form is raw and has so much there that can be improved. The scary thing is his quickness is there and his track times will continue to go down the next two years.
I think it depends on the kids and the schools they attend. College coaches love raw kids who can still play. They know they can work with them and improve them and be elite. I coach high jumpers and I had one as a frosh who high jumped 5’4 and finished out of the top 10 of his first frosh meet. I saw his raw ability though and at the end of this year he jumped 6’8 as a soph. Coaches look for that and that is one reason they used to always visit Lawton.
All I know is we need to flip perines cousin. Ever since I found out about him I don’t care about the rest.
I agree.
