Kenneth Murray: We told you a couple days ago we hoped to catch up with 2017 OLB Kenneth Murray (Missouri City, TX) following the news that OU had offered. If you’ll recall, Murray called the Sooners “a childhood favorite.” TFB spoke with Murray the other day to get a little background on that statement and a sense of where things stand with him as a whole.

As to OU being his favorite team growing up, Murray said “when I was in 6th grade one of my teachers went there (OU), and she put me on them. Ever since then I’ve watched them.”

Murray tells TFB that while he has not visited Oklahoma yet, he plans to make it up to Norman at some point this summer. Over the course of our conversation with Murray, it definitely seemed as though the Sooners are in a good spot here with yet another OLB. – (Super K)

Isaiah Thomas: 2017 OLB/DE Isaiah Thomas (Tulsa, OK) recently made a trip to Alabama and now tells TFB the plan is to be in Waco this weekend to visit Baylor.

Thomas says he is nearing a decision and hopes to announce later this month (May 28th). When TFB last we spoke with Thomas, it sounded like OU and Alabama were the likely favorites and we still believe that to be the case. We’ll see what, if anything, changes after this Baylor trip and if we can expect Thomas to stick with the aforementioned commitment timeline. – (Super K)

Kobe Boyce: Earlier this week, the Sooners made a return visit to see 2017 CB and Texas commit, Kobe Boyce (Lake Dallas, TX). Prior to his commitment, Boyce had planned on making a trip to OU and was very high on the Sooners.

Boyce let TFB know that although he remains committed to Texas, he is planning to visit Oklahoma this summer. – (Super K)

Ondario Robinson: Yesterday, Oklahoma offered 2017 DE Ondario Robinson (Hutto, TX) and, as we mentioned earlier this week, the OU coaches made a return trip to see Robinson (on Thursday) at which point the offer was extended. Robinson plays a little stand-up DE for his school, but is primarily a guy who runs well and does a good job of holding the POA.

We’ve been curious to see what direction the Sooners would go on the defensive line, especially for their B-gap players, and it would seem with this offer we may have the answer. We project Robinson would grow into a true B-gap player OU.

Robinson let TFB know he will visit Oklahoma and hopes to do so this summer, however he said a date of that visit has not been set.

This is another prospect I think the Sooners are in a good spot for, and someone both TFB and the OU coaches have been in touch with for some time. In fact, back in March, before the Sooners offered, Robinson had said “I’ve been hearing from OU non-stop, so I most likely will visit there.” With the offer coming, that trip seems to be a certainty now. – (Super K)

Montaric Brown: Earlier this week the Sooners made the Top 7 for 2017 DB Montaric Brown (Ashdown, AR). That list also included Alabama, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Baylor, Auburn & LSU.

Having spoke with a couple folks close to his recruitment, TFB was told Brown grew up a huge fan on his in-state school, Arkansas. Additionally, TFB has also been led to believe Alabama feels pretty good about their chances as well.

Bottom line, even though OU made the Top 7 cut, we believe this one is an Arkansas/Alabama battle. – (Super K)

Sooner Staff in Georgia: Oklahoma had two coaches out in Georgia this past week, and here a few notable players they visited on that trip:

Deangelo Gibbs: The star 2017 DB recently made a visit to Oklahoma, but told TFB he was not feeling well most of the week so he was not at school when the OU staff stopped in…the first time. OU made a second trip, however, and did have a chance to see Gibbs then.

Aubrey Solomon: Oklahoma also dropped by Leesburg (GA) to see 2017 DT Aubrey Solomon. TFB has been told the Sooners have a pretty good relationship with Solomon, but pulling a top defensive lineman out of SEC territory is never an easy task.

M.J. Webb: Webb is another 2017 defensive line prospect the Sooners are in regular communication with.

Michael Allen: And continuing with the defensive line theme, the Sooners also visited 2017 DE Madison Webb (Buford, GA).

While it’s obviously tough to pull top defensive linemen out of SEC country, it’s interesting to see the Sooners beginning to make Georgia a priority. The visits may not necessarily yield instant results, but building/strengthening relationships in that area could land OU a prospect out of that region earlier than one might expect. – (Super K)

Team Note: The team will be heading home this weekend for summer break, and they are expected to return to Norman on June 4th. We’ll expect team 7-on-7 workouts to begin that week or the following. Of course we will, like always, be grinding to get you all any relevant updates.

It’s been a long off-season but some team news should be here in relatively short order! – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 2:17 pm): Former 2017 OU wide receiver commit Ceedee Lamb now has a Top 10, apparently.

– UPDATE (Fri., 4:18 pm): So Vegas today released their early lines for CFB’s Games of the Year, as well as the first week of the CFB season. Items of note from an OU standpoint:

OU (-8) @ Houston – Pretty similar to the 7.5 point line that 5Dimes put up a couple weeks back.
OU (-9) vs. Ohio State – Suuuuuuper early, obviously, but that number still comes as a surprise (and yes, we know the Buckeyes lost like 100 guys to the draft)
OU (-14) vs. Texas – It’s 4:18pm and Texas still sucks.
OU (-12.5) vs. Ok State – Also seems a little high, but this far out everyone is just guessing anyway.
