(Ed. note – Apologies for the early morning content dump. Once again travel dictates the schedule and rather than making you all wait until much later this afternoon, I figured you would prefer it just go up this morning. Appreciate you both reading and understanding!)
* The Weekend: Not the music guy, but the big recruiting weekend the Sooners are expected to host. If you haven’t already seen it, and you can do so HERE, the visitor list for his weekend is quite impressive. Especially when you take into account the group of talented prospects Lon Kruger & staff are expecting in Norman.
* Devin Duvernay: Oklahoma has long standing track record of developing elite slot receivers be it Brandon Daniels, Mark Clayton, Ryan Broyles and current Sooner Sterling Shepard. 2016 Sache (TX) wide receiver Devin Duvernay has the type of talent to continue in that same tradition.
I spoke with Duvernay about his upcoming visit to OU, who shared he and Sooners WR coach Dennis Simmons have a great relationship and speak almost daily. Duvernay also said that OU’s offense is one of the things that appeals most to him, as well as just an overall comfort with the staff and university saying, “ I just feel good about the place.” We got to speaking about his twin brother and Baylor commit, Donnovan, and likelihood them playing together at the next level. Devin was adamant that “it is all even” in terms of his recruitment, saying that OU, Baylor, Ohio State and Alabama all are on an equal playing field right now.
That said, in my opinion it will be an uphill battle for anyone to beat out Baylor. But coach Simmons and Cale Gundy have proved to be coaches that can compete with anyone. The fact that they have the star receiver coming to visit gives them more than a puncher’s chance. A good showing this weekend will go a long ways in his recruitment. – (Brandon)
* Elysee Mbem-Bosse: Oklahoma has had some off and on luck in the state of Georgia in recruiting classes past. But ever since the addition of defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks, the Sooners have made more of an emphasis to make themselves known in the Peach State.
In the case of Mbem-Bosse, a 2016 LB, however, Cooks is not the lead recruiter rather Tim Kish. The Sooners LB coach is making his mark known with the star linebacker. Mbem-Bosse says Kish is a great guy and they talk often. Mbem-Bosse did say that he plans on using one of his official visits on the Sooners, but he isn’t quite sure when that visit will be scheduled.
The fact that OU is even expected to get an official from Mbem-Bosse is no small feat. He has offers from Auburn, Michigan, Alabama and just about every other elite team in in the country. If OU does get him on campus anything can happen, as his only visit so far was to North Carolina State. His recruitment seems to be one that could last well into the new year. – (Brandon)
* Marvin Wilson: The 2017 DT is one of, if not the most sought after defensive lineman in the country. With offers from just about everyone in the country, Sooners DL coach Diron Reynolds has plenty of competition for the star defender from Bellaire, Texas.
I had the chance to catch up with Wilson to see where the Sooners stand right now for him. One thing I came with from that conversation was that Wilson is definitely open to a lot schools at the moment, which makes sense considering he’s just a junior and still fairly early in the recruiting process. But during the course of our chat, Wilson did allow that OU is one of his top schools right now.
Wilson went on to say he plans on visiting OU in the future, but that visit may not occur until after this season. Wilson also said that he and Reynolds speak several times a week. In fact, Wilson said he is really close with Reynolds and loves his laid back approach to recruiting him. Wilson said the other schools at the top of his list is LSU, Texas, A&M, Baylor and Michigan. – (Brandon)

SOONER!
SOONNEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Good info. Recruiting, overall, appears to be in really good shape at the moment.
Small class this year but lots of quality
Yep. Even looking forward to the next class, we’re off to a good start.
Those slow starts we have had lately have always made me a bit nervous.
There is no doubt in my mind that yes. “It is a great day to be a SOONER”!!!!
Can I get a second on the motion to bring it up for a vote?
I’ll second
Third
MOTION PASSES
The thing I’ve noticed about this years class is that is mostly defensive guys and those guys are high caliber players. I’d really like to see OU go back to using the extra scholly or two on defense. I dont expect a ton of shutouts etc but I do miss the days that teams hated playing OU because their offenses were going to take a beating for 4 quarters(most teams broke at some point)
This is a good thing but we did load up on OL depth last year and receivers for the past 2 years. And it looks like we’re still taking 4 or so defenders this year.
Yeah , we really only need 1 receiver but would take 2 if its Duvernay , Cleveland. So defense is our focus this year.
Need one RB, 2 more OL and I will say we’re taking 2 more wr/te since its been hinted that an offer is coming for the mustang kid this weekend.
Hopefully speights commits
Yeah he looks better in his senior film which is what I like to see. I also like the Stephens kid that committed to Stanford I think he’s gonna be a good one.
I bet we take speights and a preferred walk on at running back.
True used to hurt people take there heart. We are bringing in some nasty backers now fire kish
Yeah, keep hitting them in the mouth
Can’t tell if serious.
fixed it my bad
kind of hard when we have these rules to benefit the offense. Can’t hit anybody and you can’t touch the WRs.
That’s a great point but teams can still win with defense
holding teams under 20 is the goal for good defense in the big 12.
I think that might be optimistic. I’d be pretty happy if we held Baylor, TCU, and OSU basically anywhere in the 20’s. That means we have to get to 31 points to win, which should be do-able.
Obviously I wouldn’t be upset if we held those teams to lower point totals, just not sure that is the goal.
Personally Id be happy holding Baylor to 20 per half.
I agree. This sounds weird but I think if you hold Baylor to under 40, that’s a great performance.
Yes and we score 21 a half against Blor
Might be able to hold TCU and OSU to less than 30 but I think you need to think in terms 35 points+ when you look at playing Baylor. You need to limit Baylor’s possessions by controlling possession of the ball. Every Baylor opponent of Baylor’s that has held the Bears below 41 points over the last two seasons have had a 2-12 minutes time of possession advantage.
Imperative you reduce the Bear’s possessions by 25% by controlling the ball and win the turnover battle. Do so and holding Baylor below 40 or in the low 30’s is achievable but the offense does really need to score 40+ to have a good chance for a W.
20 ppg is great defense in this league. But being able to hold Baylor to 38 would be nice and everyone else in the low to mid 20s means OU should be able to win all their games and be on even keel with Baylor(ugh I still can’t believe I am saying that)
I think we will know where our D is at tomorrow
I expect Tech to score but their D is awful and as long as OU takes care of the ball they will win and pull away at some point
They will move the ball but we have to hold them to FGs instead of TDs. I like our chances tomorrow
I’d be very happy with that.
Isn’t that what we all were saying on our way to the cotton bowl?
Yeah and the one time they didn’t take care of the ball it gave Texas the momentum they so desperately needed
The key may be OU’s D-Line performance against the TT run game….
If we hold baylor in the 30s then I like our chances
Could you guys start linking to at least one recruiting profile that gives measurements when talking about an athlete? Or is your format a conscious effort to get away from that kind of thing?
OOOOOOO And its 8.56 and texsa still sucksssssss
Hoping that all the NTX guys get to make it. All this weather is getting games postponed. To Saturday.
Hey guys check out this mid-season highlight I did of the Big 12: https://youtu.be/FzHc8KNK31E
Nicely done Swan.
I could watch Mbem-Bosse’s video all day long. My best football memories are of games played in the mud.
Thanks again for the intel much appreciated what you guys do. I personally wasn’t to impressed by Elysee highlight tape granted he’s still in high school but the technique wasn’t as elite as it should be footwork wise. But i will say he wraps up may not be as crisp as it should be but no one broke away from him. Now Mr. Wilson was superb hands where unbelievable for a guy his age and simply powerful.
Are we in on Eno Benjamin 2017 RB out of Wylie East?
Random question. …but I have been looking for that video you guys posted of that large basketball player that was asked to guard that really tall player. I think that really tall players name is tacko. I tried to go back in your archives to find it but can’t locate it. Can you please repost that vid? I’ve got some friends that want to see it. Thanks for all the great work you guys do. You’re awesome guys.
So, i guess SS has a rumor about a possible decommit.. Any word on here about who &/or why?
My three guesses would be Jefferson, Cobb or hardy. I would be ok if Jefferson and/or hardy flipped but Cobb is underrated.
From what i read at LT.. Your first guess appears to be right..
I think they are meaning a player switching to OU from another school.
Thanks for clarification. This wouldn’t be Ed Oliver would it?
Ok, i no longer have an ss sub.. So i just saw the headline posted on Twitter..
one that was commited to usc? pleaseeeee
The inference on LT is Pernell Jefferson & that it may be more of a suggestion because we have a shot at some guys we didn’t think we would have had…
Speight switching from Stanford to OU is my bet
I have quatloos. 🙂
Hearing that Brooks is questionable for the game.
That stinks
I think Brooks is a better change of pace than Ross, but not by enough to worry about. If Brooks isn’t 100%, I’d just as soon they sit him.
I expect a huge dose of Samaje against the leagues worst rush defense. This is the week they absolutely have to get him going, ’cause if not it ain’t never gonna happen
The goal shouldn’t be to get Samaje Perine going. The goal is to get/keep the offense going. Perine has not been the bell cow he was last year but he has made some very important contributions this year. Focusing on his lack of stats really takes away from what is the ultimate team game. (And he is the ultimate team player).
Not saying force the issue. But they should be able to run on Tech.
Agreed.
Precisely.
Don’t forget that Mixon fella
I didn’t. I predicted 100 yards for both in the prediction thread
This is the sign my wife’s best friend got for me.
My wife needs one of those. 🙂
Just bought my wife one of these:
My mom is ordering my wife this shirt for Christmas. LOL
Nice dont let the wife know about TFB lol
She already does. She hates it when I get on here during the game to chat. She says that I do not explain things to her when I do that. LOL! She’s been with me for over 21 years, she should know what’s up by now.
I need one of those.
1.) Don’t see any team other than Baylor for Duvernay. 2.) Don’t think OU can compete with SEC teams or Michigan for Mbem-Bosse. 3,) If Wilson doesn’t attend UH or UT, he has a country full of glamourous options available….I suspect OU will have to settle for a lesser quality talent.
Unfortunately you’re probably right on all these. Duvernay would be great but Cleveland is just as good. As far as mbem bosse, he doesn’t really fit in a big 12 defense. Rather see us go hard after hansford and the fsu juco commit, then obviously go all in on Kelly and Jackson.
Once, just once, could you provide your “expert” analysis on recruiting that has OU doing something right? Because, obviously at times, they are.
Otherwise, just STH up.
Thank you mr wonderful
1) it’s a fact, i mean… they are twins 2)you’re propably right 3) We’ll see, still very early on this one.. and the brand thing can change really fast
parity
What the freak changed Stephen? Do tell? It’s funny, that even with Baylor’s recent success going into this year OU has still killed them and TCU in recruiting.
I’m not so sure you are correct about the recruiting edge …its too early to tell as none of the schools have completed their classes…..
Look, all we have are the last 100 years going into 2015. RIght now Baylor may have an edge. We’ll see at the end. But last year OU had the 14th best class per Rivals. Baylor no where to be found.
Was checking out the LT forum and they had degenerated into their usual negativity, this time about Zack Sanchez. Their unfounded blather prompted me to take a look at his stats so far this season. I knew he had improved his tackling but was surprised to see he ranks second in the conference in tackles at his position. He is also sitting at #3 for INTs, but I think that is expected.
He’s been excellent blitzing the QB.
Apparently he’s been doing it from the qb’s blindside so it’s not that impressive…
He’s wrapping up!
Yes, but I noticed during the KSU game his timing was great and he wasn’t giving anything away until it was too late for the offense to check out of the play. That’s good football.
He has made some good stops on RBs with that corner blitz, also.
I don’t understand, does that also mean Striker’s sacks aren’t impressive?
You know how it is over there.
Aaah, gotcha. Never been there, but I hear stories.
I had to quit reading the Corner back thread because of the Sanchez hate. Just don’t get some of the posters over there. Are you the Zach I’ve noticed posting lately?
Yeah that’s me. You’re not sooner Ray over there are you?
I haven’t noticed anyone yet that has the same handle here.
there’s a jy…..same one?
Yes , that’s our JY.
I think so. He uses jy’s avatar
I’ve got a different name there, Shelby and Toats use their names over there ( they know who I am) but Shelby hasn’t posted in a long time. There are numerous people here that are also there, many I have figured out by reading on both sites.
That corner back thread was ridiculous. If Sanchez stays next year he will probably go down as the third best corner in stoops era. Definitely top 5.
I agree, he get’s flack when he loses a gamble but he also wins a lot of those. He wouldn’t be winning awards if he sucked. His tackling technique did need work but I think he’s getting better at that.
He’s played well this year. We will see how much he’s matured against teams like tech Baylor and tcu where he’s going to be on an island and tested by good qb/wr play.
We just need a kick rocks to end my day on TFB Then im going to dr leo marvins house who actually happens to be my son to start celebrating 1 its his bday 28 ha I had hair at 28 2 might as well get drunk play pool and admire the college age girls at his house then morning wait tell 10 get beer jack ribs bbq and await the beat down @2.30 and well BOOMERRRRRRR

interesting read on tech qb……….http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/big12/2015/10/22/patrick-mahomes-texas-tech-quarterback/74406814/
His high school and mine were in the same district a few years ago. We had to contend with their offense when Metoyer was there and Mahomes…and didn’t do very well against them.

Memphis vs Tulsa could be an interesting game.
So far it is.
Since our game, Tulsa hasn’t put up more than 34 points on anyone. How are other teams stopping Tulsa (since they’re supposed to be Baylor lite)? Could that help us figure out how to stop the “unstoppable” offense?
Well for one, 90% of Tulsa players wished they were offered by ou/osu so they will always be up for that game. The other thing is one of their receivers is out and I’m not sure how long he’s been out.
The “Hail Mary” before half time helped pad their score.
And the TO’s didn’t hurt their psyche.
They seem to be good at that. 🙂
HA!
And once again it won’t matter.
And just like that it is a 7 pt game. Seems familiar. 🙂
It’s deja vu all over again. :-0
https://youtu.be/z_KmNZNT5xw
Yes, Tulsa’s defense plays like kittens.
Tulsa refuses to get blown out.
Would be awesome if they could play some D.
That’s the ONLY thing preventing them from winning this game. Giving up big plays and not tackling well on third down. They can score points.
Agreed! They look worse than we did against Texsa. The only way they are gonna wrap is in the locker room with Eminem. (Sorry, do not do rap and have no clue who are rappers these days)
I hope there are no run away baby strollers with the Tulsa D around.
Yeah, the Tulsa D might get hurt!
That and/or embarrassed.
Strollers couldn’t make it through the pot holes. 🙂
That’s the only thing that could save the stroller and it’s passenger. 🙂
Tulsa playing well. Seems that with President, they have a different look to keep the D off-step. It seems that Memphis is going to be hard to keep up with. Tulsa’s D is just not close to where their O is.
Man, Tulsa’s WRs look really good (again). I didn’t realize that Keevan Lucas was injured though. That’s too bad.
Almost had consecutive stops on defense and then Tulsa remembered to miss a tackle… geez. If I ever feel bad about OUr tackling I will just watch Tulsa; their tackling is otherworldly bad.
EasTex, how did Marshall do tonight?
They lost 27-7.
Three way tie for 1st place, now.
No excuses, though, not losing their starting QB and only scoring 10 points in the six qtrs since, not the pouring rain, not the first grass field they have played on(with standing water), not a desperate and tough opponent.
Sorry about the loss. I’m sure they’ll find the resolve they need.
The next two opponents are pretty weak, but they have to find a way to win.
Any hopes for a deep run in the playoffs are gone, though. With Haller at QB now defenses are loading the box as they don’t fear the pass.
Maybe, just maybe, the HC is saving the pass. I read the article you shared with me; he said Haller can spin it.
I hope so, he certainly couldn’t tonight in a driving rain. He fumbled a few times and got one picked.
They are completely out of sync without Hart. They had more penalties than first downs in the first half.
They’ll be fine. What good things happened to you today?
Had a profitable and busy morning, came home and took a long nap with the wonderful sounds of thunder and rain.
Ready to fire out against Tech?

Are you aware of how much rain has been slamming OK and Texas the past few days?
My brother lives about 10 miles from me and he had dumped his rain gauge twice in less than 24 hours for a total of 10 inches and it has been coming down steady since the last time he dumped, and it is supposed to continue raining here until Sunday morning.

I watched the first 20-30 minutes of that game. The OL was nasty and mauling TT. And the defense, wow! There were stars all over that defense. They attacked recklessly. Venables was aggressive, that’s for sure.
Yes. Saw it from Cali that year. Tech ranked 2nd. But four a man rush and DBs playing off the LOS held them to 21.
Let’s just hope they can do something similar this week. I know the story before the game is that tech is potent but i want to hear everyone dog them after the game, while dogging ou in the process.
“Don’t want to hear any crying about playing off the LOS.” Once an idea like that catches on on the internet, it’s pretty hard to get rid of it, no matter how much logic, common sense, or how many facts you throw at it. 🙂

The best video of a defensive tackle I’ve seen is 2016 recruit Ed Oliver. The kid is unbelievably quick and fast for as big as he is. He’s blowing up every play. Best play’s are where he’s driving the offensive lineman, ( linemen ) to the ball and making the tackle. We have to be recruiting this kid hard. Unbelievable video! Boomer! OU ☝
Anyone know where I will be able to listen to the game online? I’m out of the country right now.

We are going to get TT’s best shot today. This should tell us a great deal about our defense. Offensively, I’m sensing a lot more ground and pound against an undersized but fast defense. I hope we run right at them with power.
First offensive play of game for the Sooners will be play action deep for a TD. Mark it. 🙂
Ok so first play Andrews TD? Awesome.
