Hope everyone had a great weekend and for those of you on spring break…enjoy! As most of you know OU is also on spring break, so many of the coaches are traveling personally. Thus, we don’t expect to have a ton of information throughout the week.

However, we do have one nice little tidbit you might find interesting…

– Darius Hammond: If you love football, you likely won’t see many more exciting or explosive football players in the country than Louisiana native, Darius Hammond (Livonia, LA). Hammond is a 2015 cornerback prospect who had some academic hurdles to overcome and, as such, has yet to actually sign with a school. I spoke to a source, though, recently who told me it appears Hammond is now qualified and looking for a landing spot. I don’t know whether he has been cleared academically by the NCAA Clearinghouse yet, but what I do know is this young man is a special athlete. I’ve been told there are a number of schools quietly looking to find a spot for Hammond, and if you take a look at his film you’ll see why.

Hammond played at Livonia high school in Louisiana, a school that actually has a few nice prospects including 2016 stud defensive end Willie Baker. Hammond isn’t the tallest guy at around 5’10” but to be perfectly frank, I really don’t care. He has next level speed coupled with great instincts and play-making ability. He’s one of the few prospects you’ll watch and find the tape only getting better and better as it goes on. Hammond could be an asset to Oklahoma as a punt returner, a slot wide receiver, or as a cornerback. People talk about 4.4 speed but very, very, very few players actually have it. Hammond is one of those select few. If this young man develops from a technical perspective, you could be looking at the next Jason Verrett.

We have been told that Oklahoma is looking at Hammond as a cornerback prospect. We’ve also been told that TCU, Michigan, Texas, Louisville, Tennessee and others are looking at Hammond as well. I’ll continue to follow Hammond if for no other reason than I just believe he has the ability to be a tremendous player at the next level. In my mind, he’s a unique talent that anyone passionate about football would love to watch – (Super K)

– Dontavious Jackson: I had a chance to catch up with 2016 OU offer and Alief Elsik linebacker Dontavious Jackson over the weekend while in Dallas for The Opening regional event. Jackson was one of several in attendance who earned an invite to The Opening national event that will be held in Oregon later this summer.

Nothing earth shattering to report necessarily, but Jackson did confirm that his interest in Oklahoma remains strong. He said the SAE video had absolutely no effect on his recruiting. Jackson also said he will be announcing a Top 10 on July 4th, and we have every reason to believe OU will be among those ten schools. Jackson is being recruited by both Tim Kish and Bob Stoops, has already been to Norman twice, and hopes to make a return trip again at some point. – (Brandon)

– Jeffrey Okudah: Yesterday while at The Opening regional event in Dallas, Brandon shot a clip of 2017 OU DB offer Jeffrey Okudah (Grand Prairie, TX) that I just had to share.

https://vine.co/v/OVAVibxK2UV

Okudah is, in my estimation, one of the most special DB prospects in the country. I truly believe this young man has the mental fortitude, work ethic, size & athleticism to one day become a first round draft pick. And I don’t say something like that lightly.

He just turned 16 years old and already measures in at a grown man 6’2″ 199-pounds. That’s linebacker size (and a pretty big one) for a kid his age, yet he’s a defensive back and definitely moves like one. Okudah is being trained by coach Clay Mack in Dallas, and you can already see Mack’s signature written all over the efficiency within Okudah’s movement. His back pedal is very clean, he gets out of break beautifully, and as far as I can tell only makes one false step throughout.

Okudah has already visited Oklahoma once and I suspect he will be back again, but he is being courted by a number of programs including Florida State, Michigan and several others. – (Super K, video from Brandon)

Hammond = Baller. Bet Riley could fit him in with his O. So many are caught up with height for CB but all I care about is their ability to cover. Hammond could be great on either side. One of my favorite I’ve seen on tape.

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

The first to post? Why, I don’t even know what to say. This was all so sudden. I guess I should thank God for the awesome game of football. My mama, of course. And to the TFB Academy for kicking out an Open Post at the most opportune time. To those who hate me, I love you. To those who love me, I love you more. We built this city on rock-n-roll.

A very Sooner Monday to you all.

  • F1at1ined says:

Does our new DB coach Kerry Cooks have any history/relationship already developed with Hammond? Does Mike or anyone else? He looks pretty amazing and I think any college would love to find room for him on their football rosters.

    • Sooner 76 says:

OU does have a scholly to give (actually at 83 right now), so if he wants to come to OU, they have room for him. OU does have 9 CBs on scholly for the fall, however.

    • Zack says:

I remember cooks was said to have a great track record in Texas which is great but it’s good to see him working the boot as much as he is. We need to get those kids that lsu doesn’t have room for.

    • Super K says:

Not that I know of but as 76 mentioned below, OU has an open spot

  • KJ1123 says:

I saw that Rashard Lawrence was at the Dallas Regionals as well. Is OU still in the mix for him since Monty left?

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

    That catch!

  • Jeremy Phillips says:

What did you guys think of QB Dillon Sterling-Cole..? OU interested at all?

  • Zack says:

That hit by Hammond at the 1:50ish mark was NICE. His highlights are up there with dowels and adoree Jackson as far has the playmaking ability.

    • Super K says:

Glad to hear you like him Zack. He’s just moving at a different speed and intensity than everyone else. He does everything so effortlessly

      • BOZsayshello says:

Hammond moves at a different speed, makes everyone look slow. Wish he would lose the taunting though!

  • Cush Creekmont says:

With open Scholarships, a fast versatile player that can also return kicks – seems a no brainer offer. I’d think the coaches would go full-tilt “come on down” with the young man.
That is unless it interferes with vacation retreats….

    • boomersooner says:

you guys can’t go one day without recycled, tired jokes huh? maybe someone should “take a timeout” from his day job to hit the comedy circuit or did you use em all up already

      • Zack says:

What I don’t get is why people think he can’t take a vacation. And I’m no mathematician but we had 5 losses, stoops took one vacation (during an off week btw) those numbers don’t add up.

        • boomersooner says:

i guess its one of those things where they deflect their lives onto their football coach. they’re not perfect, but they expect perfection out of their football coach. then they compare pay. theirs is brutal, his is up there. what they don’t understand is 80,000 people don’t wanna watch them copy papers

      • SamSooner says:

Some people want from others what they are not willing to give. It does get tiresome. They hold on to their anger like is a prized possession. That’s all they have, Boomer. To me, that’s someone who just has to gripe about something.

        • boomersooner says:

yeah. one of the all time greats and one of my favorites as well was bobby bowden. i love that guy. but for those who love to gripe, like you say, will tell you all the bad, such as he stayed too long or rumors of academic coverups, etc. i never met him, but from what i hear is he is a God fearing, family man and treated his players like men and like family. to me, you can’t ask for more…oh and he won a lot of “dadgum” ballgames

          • SamSooner says:

He’s one of my favorites also. He just seems genuine. This stuff, stuff being what life throws at us, is not more important than family. I admire Bob for that. He’s someone I’d like to work for. We should have two more National Championships but we missed. What would be the perception if he’d won those two?

Nothing is more important than family. I don’t hesitate to tell my bosses that, not anymore.

          • Stephen Dale says:

a lot more positive than it currently is………..

          • SamSooner says:

If you go to sleep and dream, life can be the way you want it to be. In dream land it can be the way you want it to be. Then, maybe you won’t be so negative all the time. Take a happy nappy. We will all be the better for it.

    • Super K says:

Agree…this kid would be a steal for OU!

      • Cush Creekmont says:

S-K, Do you know what actual offers he may have or is his academic improvement so new that none have come in?

        • Super K says:

No one but southern miss new about his academic process till this past weekend is my understanding and apparently southern miss wants him…like yesterday! But he’s a high major player in my eyes. Can play anywhere if he is indeed eligible.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Thanks. Good scoop on this young man. He was off the radar for most of us. Louisiana seems to breed DBs like no place else.

          • Herman Bubbert says:

No argument here. Hammond looks like someone you get in, and then you worry about where he can help most. He can certainly help somewhere.

  • Red BeauU says:

Really enjoyed watching Okudah yesterday and Jackson . Kendall Jones is a monster . I saw a offensive lineman use the bathroom on his self when Kendall Jones lined up in front of him . WOW .

  • Steve Cooke says:

Passing thru Pryor, Ok and the have OU shirts on sale for $5.

  • Jeff says:

Was there 7th graders there? Think a friend of mine kid was there

  • jonnyBgood says:

Hammond reminds me of a former Miami Hurricane receiver turned cornerback now playing for my beloved Green Bay Packers…Sam Shields. Play maker deluxe. Wow that was a fun watch and he would sure look good in Crimson and Cream!

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Okudah’s foot speed and footwork is awesome…Kid is going to play on Sundays if he stays healthy

  • hOUligan says:

As said, at 6’2 200 already, get Okudah in a top SC program. He could well end up at LB in a scheme like OUs’ where coverage skills are highly coveted. Wouldn’t mind him at 220 as a LB at all.

  • FreakyT says:

Did Daniel Brooks get an extra year of eligibility? He is listed as a RSo. on Soonersports

    • BoomerDave says:

I’m not year what year he is supposed to be, but you can’t even apply for an extra year of eligibility in your soph year.

  • Randy says:

I would love to go see a list of the top couple of recruits at each position (so not a big list) and the top Oklahoma kids at those positions..

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

That’ll be a good thing. Should get all the top kids in Oklahoma just like LSU and Bama get their home grown talent. There is no reason not to, unless a player from another state is rated higher and we get them instead. No excuses. I’ve never learned why Warikobo left the state.

      • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

I agree. We can, however, name several who left the state and didn’t much, some who did.

      • Jonathan Taylor says:

Focusing on in-state talent should take some priority over out of state since the in-state kids will fight harder for the school. OK has a deep class this year so I don’t see why we wouldn’t focus on them. State, region, then national talent.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Remember when Coach said (2010?) that OU is a “National program?” I think the reverse of your view is true. National kids first, then oklahoma’s finest.

  • Chris White says:

Really pulling for this kid, posted awhile back how much I like him and he would go to OU easy (6’6″ 340)
