Open Post | Weekend, Nov. 27th – 29th (UPDATE Sun., 11:26 am)

Chris Daniels: If you read Brandon’s update following 2016 DT Chris Daniels’ visit from earlier this week, you’ll note said visit clearly helped OU.

Daniels recently tweeted out he plans to announce his commitment on December 18th. We’ve spoken to a couple of sources and let’s just say, OU fans wouldn’t be wrong to feel confident as to where things stand right now between Daniels and the Sooners. If everything plays out as we expect, Diron Reynolds could be landing a pretty big fish on the 18th. – (Super K)

Velus Jones: Another player who we feel very very good about coming off a visit to Norman last week is 2016 WR Velus Jones (Saraland, AL). As we mentioned earlier this week, Jones let us know he will silently commit to the school of his choosing prior to officially announcing his commitment publicly.

With his aunt and uncle living in the Oklahoma City area, and based on our conversation with some sources, we get the sense that Jones is Oklahoma’s to lose right now. – (Super K & Brandon)

Marcel Southall: Sticking with a common visitor theme from last weekend, a third player we believe the Sooners have taken a clear lead for is 2016 DT Marcel Southall.

He had a great trip to Norman this past summer for an unofficial visit, and at that time we got a sense things were moving in OU’s favor. But the Southalls’ weren’t planning on making a decision anytime soon that early in the recruitment process. But after last weekend’s trip, Marcel’s father sent me a message saying the commitment date, “should be Sooner than later.” Read into that what you will.

Southall’s father also said that, “every part of the visit was good…not a low point. My hat goes off to them (OU staff)…the visit was great and OU handled their business on and off the field.” When I pressed Southall’s father on his “Sooner than later” message he simply said, “Stay tuned Brandon…”

We aren’t saying anything has been decided at this point, but I do believe if the decision was made today the Sooners would be in a great spot. More proof that OU did a tremendous job last week. – (Brandon)

Andraez Williams: Earlier this week we mentioned the lines of communication had reopened between Kerry Cooks and 2016 CB/LSU commit, Andraez Williams. Only a day later, Williams tweeted out the following:

As most of you know Williams is teammates with current OU commit Chanse Sylvie, who tells TFB he has been recruiting Williams hard to OU. – (Brandon)

Devwah Whaley: If you missed it, one-time OU 2016 RB target Devwah Whaley officially announced his commitment to the University of Georgia. If you’re a loyal TFB reader, though, that likely didn’t come as much of a surprise.

– UPDATE (Sat., 10:39 am): Sooners 2016 LB target & recent visitor, Clifford Chattman.

https://twitter.com/cliffchattman/status/670640325774340096

– UPDATE (Sat., 6:19 pm): 2016 OT E.J. Price

https://twitter.com/Ej_Price77/status/670755072784121856

– UPDATE (Sun., 11:26 am): Couple quick updates.

Sooners 2016 JUCO WR target.

Should be a non-issue, though, based on where things are believed to stand between OU and Velus Jones following his visit last weekend.

Second update, via Brandon, is that 2017 DB Jamyest Williams (Lawrenceville, GA) will be in Norman this afternoon for an unofficial visit.

Some good news on Black Friday and rainy one at that, always love reading the open post it’s like Christmas only not, but still close!

  • ccmosaic says:

I am still very confused on what happened to Whaley? Was it the depth at running back that scared him away?

    • Brien Brown says:

I read somewhere that it was our scheme that he didn’t like, but things cooled early in the season when was struggling to run really well, so that may make sense and plus I think coaches learn when to back off a kid when maybe they show that kind of attitude, now nothing more than what I read though about it being the scheme. But I hear Adams had a good visit also.

    • Dustin says:

Some have that #oudna and some don’t.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Good news here. If we end up signing a good portion of the guys we feel good about, it will be a VERY good class.

    • Brien Brown says:

Seen on 247 that crystal ball, has Kelly and Jones both at 100% for us, and Southall and Daniels the percentage moved way up, also believe we moved up with Dre Massey a bit, and the Else whatever his name is we moved up a lot and Bledsoe though wasn’t a visitor for that game we are all but a lock for him. We need to get Juraez and E.J. Price on campus and get them on board would be HUGE! The JUCO LB out of Florida is also high on the percentage mark as well.

      • Jake says:

Really funny remark about the “Else whatever his name is”.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Top 10 class? Or still top 15?

        • Brien Brown says:

We get the kids they say we are suppose to and get the few surprise recruits that we seem to snag every year I say top 10 perhaps a top 5. I say we get Daniels, Jones, Southall, Kelly, Bledsoe, and Massey that gives us 6 to the 11 we have and would be 17 for the class that would be a top 15 I say we can bring in 4 more and if those 4 end up being Juraez, Cleveland, Price, and Adams I say that would send OU in to the top 10 to 5 rank! The first 3 are huge names and recruits!

        • SoonerSpock says:

Signing as few recruits (18) as I have seen projected makes if virtually impossible to sign a top ten class this year too many schools signing 25 will also have top classes. Might but not likely.

  • SamSooner says:

Super K, Brandon, and Jordan, thanks for you hard work. I hope you all had a great holiday with your families.

Let’s lay the BOOM! on the pokes and ride into the sunset. OU will win.

  • EasTex says:

Thanks for the info Brandon and Super K.
All the young men you mentioned as possible BOOMS would be most welcome. Looking at the cfb landscape and the coaching carousel already spinning, I wonder how it will effect the decisions of some kids committed to schools that may have changes, i.e. Georgia, LSU, UH and some others.
It’s going to be a very interesting period after the bowl games and signing day.

  • Dustin says:

A Friday OP and nobody’s commenting? A lot of turkey hangovers in Sooner Nation.

  • Ed Cotter says:

Thanks for the excellent updates. Great to see OU is in pretty good with some fantastic players. Hopefully we will get some booms here soon. Would also be interesting to see which guys both OU and the Pokes are recruiting will be Stillwater for the game.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I was wondering about state’s visitors myself.

    • Brien Brown says:

My understanding is that Juarez, Elliott, Daniels, Moore, and Bledsoe, are all the list to visit. I seen the deal about Juarez on twitter. Also one of my buddies is hardcore OSU fan and he said these where names he has heard me mention and that they would be at the game on Saturday as OSU visitors! But, take it for what it is worth could be a jealous friend!

  • j l says:

Thanks for taking the time to put all this work in on the holiday season. We are a lucky group of readers.

  • Mizuno44 says:

What a difference a year makes! From recruiting, to coaching, and competing for championships again, we’re back and it feels phenomalistic!

  • EasTex says:

Have to say, didn’t expect to see UH get after Navy like this.
Herman really is a good coach.

    • Sooner Ray says:

How many starters do they lose this year, any idea?

    • KJ1123 says:

I hope they open up ranked next year. That would look nice for our OOC games.

      • paganpink says:

I think that they will. They’re a good team and maybe we will help other conferences shatter some SEC myths before this season is over and stop the silliness of over ranking their teams based on nothing. May the odds always be against the SEC in every bowl game. That’s from Hunger Games, I think.

    • Hotrod33 says:

But is Herman going to be gone after this year. A lot of rumors of his name for some of these vacancies.

      • EasTex says:

With all the prime jobs available I wouldn’t be surprised if he leaves.

        • Hotrod33 says:

I know. One of these jobs will give him a lucrative amount of money to leave. I don’t 3mil will do it. Unless he wants to prove that his first yr was no fluke.

          • blaster1371 says:

Can you imagine what being paid three million a year is like? I know BS makes a lot more but that is one heck of a lifestyle in that income. I guess I’m letting my peasantry show.

          • Hotrod33 says:

You would be living in luxury that is for sure. I will never see that unless I win the lottery. Sometimes I wonder is it worth having that much money.

          • SamSooner says:

            Yes, yes it is.

          • EasTex says:

I doubt money is the only consideration, landing a “destination” job with a chance to compete for championships probably means even more.

          • Hotrod33 says:

I know money isn’t the only reason. With all coaching changes it will be interesting to see who goes where and how that will affect some of the assistants on these staffs also.

      • KatyOUdad says:

Supposedly Herman was in SC this past week and a deal could not be worked out and he left and withdrew his name. Locally, here in Houston, they already have approval to bump him to $3 million. Sounding like he will stay at least another year. Next year may bring more opportunities with UT and A&M if they do not start winning big.

  • paganpink says:

If, in the end, Baker Mayfield takes this team where I think he’s taking it then he deserves a huge amount of credit for what one of is one most astonishing turnarounds in the history of college ball. We were a different team without him last year and now, after new coaches and great players have been added, and schemes largely blown up and replaced, we’re still a different team without him! That is a Heisman worthy impact rarely seen at top line, big, successful teams like Oklahoma. He has the potential to be an utterly transcendent player that changes both us and the National championship standings solely on the basis of his own play and his ability to lead us as a true TEAM. We should be writing songs about him if he wins it all this year! How completely unlikely, and even a little ridiculous, all year- and even just 6 weeks ago- the very thought of that National championship really was! We were rebuilding, not truly trying to get back to the National title game the first year after some of the most embarrassing losses we have had in decades and even a few where we appeared to have done the unheard of- given up! But, I know there are many others on here who shared my hopes that we might just pull it off anyway this year, and we all noted the similarities to the 2000 team’s unlikely run and the hope we might somehow improve our less then perfect team throughout the season just as they did, and would see Sooner Magic return once again…But then the terrible and unexpected loss to Texas seemed to have truly crushed even the little chance remaining for it to be possible. But NO! What a wonderful Thanksgiving this team have given us all by their incredible play through the toughest month anyone can remember, and what a great job of restoring faith in our team by showing their own unwavering teamwork and friendship is the way to get it done! Great job, Sooners! Beat the Cowboys and go for it all! BOOMER SOONER!

It’s my magnum opus on the season and my happiness that the Sooners are back…

    • Stephen Dale says:

such a turnaround reinforces the value of having a playmaker at QB…and it also brings attention to those coaches who can spot talent and project it to the D-1 level as well as simply being lucky sometimes…

  • blaster1371 says:

IMO OU needs two running backs in this class. It would be ideal if both Could red shirt and be ready for 2017. Not sure Perine will leave early but I could see. Mixon leaving after his junior year if he has a really good season. He strikes me as the kind who would do really well in evaluations not matter his stats since he would be sharing carries with Perine and others. I just get the sense Ross is transferring next season. On one kick off late in the TCU game he didn’t even move over to catch the ball but just watched it hit a yard into the endzone. Neal looked over to him and judging by his body language was saying “WTH, dude at least catch it.” To which Ross’s body language in reply was “naaaaaaaa.” Of course he can only transfer if he has graduated since he only has one more year of eligibility left. All that to say IF Ross transfers OU would have only four RBs on scholly one of which is recovering from an injury.

  • EasTex says:

Hadn’t looked at the roster in a few days. The new look is interesting.

  • Zack says:

So does ou land the 4 guys mentioned? The other guy, I’ve already forgotten his name as I have every other Georgia running back.

    • Brien Brown says:

I think we land Daniels, Southall, and Jones for sure. Williams I think is kinda a 50/50 deal, only reason I feel this way is I believe their is some really good DB’s we still have in mind that we want more! Not saying Williams isn’t good just think we get a guy like Burton or Cuffee I think they will be more than happy. My two cents!

  • Josh says:

  • William Ryan says:

Just heard on the Rush that this weekend’s game between the LSU and Texas A&M will be Lester’s last game as Lsu head coach.

    • paganpink says:

I saw something about how they have to pay him more then 10 million just to buy him out and millions more for the assistant coaches. But they haven’t been happy with that crazy dude for a couple of years. I think its amazing he reached the level he did with all of his failings as a coach.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Isn’t it amazing how much fan support the Huskers get even though they play horrific football? Very loyal fans for sure.

    • EasTex says:

Always loved the nebbish fans. Good folks.

      • SoonerOracle737 says:

I was driving back from vacation at Yellowstone along I-80 in Nebraska in the middle of summer and on the local news on radio they had a 15 minute summer practice report that detailed many players strengths and injuries. I was amazed at the level of football support even in the summertime doldrums! They take it seriously up there.

    • paganpink says:

Never should have left. They haven’t been good since! And what a waste of the great rivalry with OU. Their fans are welcoming and not knuckleheads.

      • DCinAZ says:

I have no sympathy for Nebraska for running out on all their history and their rivals like they did for a fistful of cash. None.

        • EasTex says:

I will never blame them for shedding themselves of Texsa. I envy them.

        • BleedCrimson says:

I believe it was more of them getting fed up with being “homered” by Texsa commish.

          • Brien Brown says:

I would concur with this statement! Texas and their Longhorn network rubbed a lot of people the wrong way! Surprised that OU and lil bro haven’t went looking elsewhere either TBH!!!

          • Stephen Dale says:

            ‘shortsighted’ OU administrative decisions……….

        • SoonerSpock says:

The Huskers were motivated to get away from Texas calling the shots in the B12. They were accustomed to calling the shots in the B8 along with OU. When OU started siding frequently with the whorns Osborne realized their vote meant less than in the past.

Throwing in the money from the B1G became the straw that broke the camel’s back but their hate of Texas was their primary dislike. Ditto Colorado and Missouri.

The whorns destroyed the SW conference and will/have destroyed the B12. What has killed them in the B1G is their inability to recruit successfully in the Texas like when they were in the B12.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Are we rooting for the Cornies?

    • Golfluvr13 says:

They have always had some of the most respectful fans I ever dealt with, other than when they fired Solich. I was in Omaha when that happened and got yelled at that it was all my fault. I had my OU attire on as always.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

And suddenly, I understand why NU has a 5-5 record. That was an ugly oskie.

    • William Ryan says:

I wonder what ol’ Frank Solitch is up to these days…. guess 9-3 and one national championship appearance wasn’t enough…

      • Golfluvr13 says:

He went 8-4 this year at Ohio.

        • William Ryan says:

I thought that’s where he went and I’d be willing to bet a buffalo headed nickel most Husker fan regret firing him. He was Osborne appointed successor and protégé more importantly played physical Nebraska football.

  • Scott says:

Thank you TFB for all the hard work and all the info you guys give us everyday.

  • SamSooner says:

Did you all see the “Breaking News” crawl on ABC? A&M will be Les Miles last game.

    • BleedCrimson says:

Les Miles suggests to a newscrew that it will be his last game. How do you “suggest” it will be your last game?

    • Hotrod33 says:

Yea, saw that too. I guess the boosters got what they wanted.

    • EasTex says:

To quote Bob Stoops, “Some of these teams better be careful what they wish for…”

      • EasTex says:

LSU football was in the wilderness during the 90’s just like OU.
        How soon some forget.

        • SoonerSpock says:

LSU has won the SEC four times since 2001 (2001, 2003, 2007 and 2011). From 1933 they won six SEC championships (1935, 1936, 1958, 1970, 1986 and 1988) The tigers are proverbial SEC also rans and replacing Les is an attempt to return to their historical past.

  • Jeff says:

    Raid LSU now

    • William Ryan says:

Definitely wouldn’t mind having some of those D lineman and secondary players they’re known for sending to the NFL to add to our already ridiculous depth.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Hiring Jimbo Fisher will stop any thought of leaving for those committed to LSU.. Nobody is likely to abandon ship……..

      • SoonerSpock says:

Why would Jimbo leave FSU for a school that would fire a coach with Miles record. Tells me that big money boosters run the school and who is going to be their coach. I would not want my future determined by fickle fans. Besides FSU can/will meet any salary Jimbo can get in Baton Rouge.

        • Stephen Dale says:

1.) new challenge : 2.) fading support at FSU over the scandals ; 3.) $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • Brien Brown says:

If this was the Nebraska of old they would have about 190 yards rushing and about half as many yards passing 79 right now in the day that would be like 40 maybe!!! Again depending on the QB at the time and what years we are talking! I have to say this out loud I go back and watch some old Nebraska film talk like 93-96 Nebraska teams when the lost like 3 games total in that stretch now that was some option football and some good fun smash mouth football to watch!

    • William Ryan says:

Agree completely from time to time you have to evolve to keep pace with the changing football landscape, but you should never get away from your tradition to the point have.

  • Mustvid says:

Watching the Nebraska game this time of year brings back great memories of OU vs NU games. I miss that rivalrie.

  • Mustvid says:

Who do we want to win tonight, Baylor or TCU? I’m pulling for TCU because I hate them less then Baylor and I know the left tackle.

    • eastoksooner says:

I’m pulling for TCU. Can’t root for Briles, never.

    • Jason Vos says:

Its kind of hard because a Baylor win means OSU has no chance at the Big 12 title, and maybe that takes some edge of them tomorrow.

However i’d hate for Baylor to have a chance to win the big 12 title 3 years in a row with a win over TCU and an OU loss tomorrow.

So ill leave this one to fate.

    • Josh says:

I’m going Baylor because I think it will take a little out of the pukes. Combine that with freezing rain and the team with nothing to play for might be looking for the game just to be over. Think about being a DB out there in the freezing rain and almost no shot at a title and you have to tackle Samaje Perine… going to lose motivation real quick.

  • Mizuno44 says:

The Les Miles gruff persona is fine while you’re winning, but irritating and old news when you don’t win big games. Signed, The LSU Board of Regents, Booster Club, and Fan Base

  • Jason Vos says:

Dont see how Iowa can beat any of the top 3 teams in the playoffs. Their offense is just too basic imo. Big 10 is sooo booooring

    • Brien Brown says:

You can be basic as long as the execution is on point! I do think that they would be in trouble against a very stout run D which Clemason, OU, and Bama all seem to have and just going by the current top 4!

    • John Garner says:

I agree but anything can happen in one game. Iowa may be unbeaten but Michigan State has the best resume of any B10 school and the best defense. They’d have the best chance to compete in the CFP.

    • Martin says:

NU had at least 3 turnovers, and Iowa scored one TD on defense. Yet, NU could have been driving to tie late in the game. I just don’t see how they can stay with anyone with a salty offense.

  • Jason Vos says:

I wonder where Les Miles ends up if the rumors are true. Miami would be a good spot for him

    • RBear says:

      Predicting a step down.

    • Brien Brown says:

      I am thinking USC!!

      • eastoksooner says:

I bet USC makes a hard push at Chip Kelley. His Eagles stint is a disaster and he was good on the west coast before.

        • Brien Brown says:

See my above comment but yes I can see that as well

          • eastoksooner says:

I’m getting a feeling of Justin Fuente to LSU. Memphis coach, used to recruiting the south. Just my guess. You could definitely be correct though.

          • Brien Brown says:

Right on that seems likely as well! It will be a crazy off season for sure. The shake up will be intense for sure!

          • eastoksooner says:

It will definitely be nuts. Good thing for us this year is that we should not have any coaching changes, knock on wood.

          • Brien Brown says:

LR is seeming like a hot topic we make the playoffs, I can see some teams calling doesn’t mean some already haven’t

          • eastoksooner says:

Yeah I figure he will be around a couple more years. Get some big time experience and then take a HC job. Hopefully we can keep him, that’s why I “knocked on wood” earlier.

          • Jpsooner23 says:

Nope, Fuente to va tech. Jimbo will be at LSU. Write it down.

          • EasTex says:

It was mentioned the other day that there are “personal reasons” that Fisher couldn’t leave florida right now. Don’t know if that is his pending divorce or the poor health of one of his children or some other factor.

          • Jpsooner23 says:

I am by no means an insider, but I will say it would be extremely surprising to me if jimbo does not end up there. He has a specific Clause in his contract letting him go to LSU Scott free. He loved it when he was there and they want him back.

          • EasTex says:

Just what I heard. Don’t know, don’t care.

          • Jpsooner23 says:

            U always say that!

          • EasTex says:

            Because it’s twue.

        • John Garner says:

Wow! If true, Kelly’s offense would change the culture at USC. If they go looking for a coach, I bet they start with Tom Herman at Houston.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Somewhere with lush grass, he grazed the LSU field down to nothing. 🙂

    • William Ryan says:

Texas A&M would be a great fit with that arrogant and delusional fanbase.

  • Brien Brown says:

Chip Kelly to LSU is my guess! Mean he is use to playing without a QB right!!!

  • Jason Vos says:

I really hope some of these big receivers we have i.e Mead, Andrews, Dahu, A.D Miller, Smallwood and Dallis Todd are ready to make an impact next year

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’m worried about receiver next year for sure. Who will/can step up and fill Sterling’s shoes?

      • John Garner says:

I think that’s why they’re recruiting Velus Jones out of Alabama so hard. Same skill set as Sterling.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Humphreys? Slot correct? Westbrook, Baxter starting.

      • William Ryan says:

I really like Micaiah quick in the slot had decent freshman year don’t know if he’s having a sophomore slump this year or if the guys in front of or just playing better.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yeah. Forgot about Quick. Quick, Westbrook, Baxter, Humphrey/Andrews/Mead/Green/Miller/Smallwood/Todd…unless someone transfers.

          • William Ryan says:

I can see Baxter and Westbrook as players that elavates their game with another year under their belt much in the same as Saunders and Bester did their second year.

  • Mizuno44 says:

Huskers score, cut into Hawkeye lead, now 21-17

  • Gary Robbins says:

On the new Sooner roster that eas-Tex referenced are those current weights? Gallimore was over 340 and Paul was over 360. Pretty big dudes.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Wow, Nebraska QB throws another pick.

  • BleedCrimson says:

ESecPN is live on campus at OSUx and like the Coke Zero banner in the background, there are ZERO people behind the Herbie and the guys.

  • Bill Holder says:

Doesn’t Mason Fine play for Locust Grove? Saw where Lone Grove beat them 64-0 today.

    • JD says:

I heard the conditions lined up perfectly for LoneGs running attack in the mudfreezing rain versus LocustGs passing attack on turf surface…not saying the outcome would have been different but Im guessing Locust would have had more offense and made the game better

      • Bill Holder says:

Okay, thanks. When I saw the score I thought he might have been injured and missed the game.

    • Brien Brown says:

Yea they got crushed and Lone Grove has a stud RB according to my friend! Basically they said same thing that was said the conditions played right into Lone Groves hand, despite that being said a great team should never expect being one dimensional to get the job done. The weather can hurt a passing team and cleary it did today!

      • Bill Holder says:

Their running back, Lewis is committed to Ark St.

      • Zack says:

I think Lewis is worth a shot if we miss out on Adams. Maybe even offer him a preferred walk on spot. I think he has legitimate 4.5 speed and that’s what Riley’s offense is predicated on.

        • Brien Brown says:

I think Z’Quan Hogan is a better RB tbh and someone we should consider if all else fails IMO!

          • Zack says:

I know eastex would be right there with you. I think if hogan played in Houston he would be as highly touted as Whaley. I think you gotta have both types. A bruiser and a burner. In this offense I think it’s great to have Perine and mixon. It’s impossible to land guys like that every year but it would be nice if we could find one each year.

          • William Ryan says:

Gundy bought some gamers in, year in and year out.

          • Zack says:

On paper yes. Calhoun and Williams were busts though. But for the most part his guys have panned out.
Fun fact Chris brown had more rushing touchdowns than AD.

          • Brien Brown says:

Whaley,Peterson, Murray, Patrick, Brown, Perine, Mixon, Q, Works, Jones, mean all these guys had some good seasons (I am sure to be missing some names), not all of them had real long term success but, where all solid RB’s IMO, mean think the track record does speak for itself. There has been bust but, think we have had way more at the WR position then anywhere else.

          • William Ryan says:

Wow didn’t know that! That’s pretty astonishing!

          • William Ryan says:

He had the knack for pulling some kids out of some highly recruited areas, Murry Las Vegas, Roy Finch Florida, and one of my all time favorite Brennan Clay San Diego.

          • Brien Brown says:

If he played at Jenks or Union he probably would be more sought after kid looks good on film to me!

        • Bill Holder says:

He looks pretty small to me but don’t know for sure. I live about 17 miles from there but never caught one of their games.

    • William Ryan says:

Hats off to anyone playing in these conditions, let alone display a dominant performance like that.

  • KatyOUdad says:

Watching TCU-BU game and noticed #42 is playing. That is the kid that was ejected for targeting Mayfield last week. I thought the rule was he had to sit out first half of next game?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    Baylor on 20 going in…

  • EasTex says:

I’m trying to watch this frog-bear game, but I just really, really don’t care what happens. I’ve tried to view it from many different perspectives, but nothing works. Think I will just have it on as background noise while I do some laundry and vacuuming.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Better if Baylor wins I suppose. I see Okie St trying to throw the alley-oop passes like these two teams.

      • EasTex says:

Like I said, I’ve tried on every perspective and they either don’t fit or make me itch.

      • William Ryan says:

That’s why playing a “little” off coverage, so you don’t get beat deep while dropping some lbs in zone coverages can be so effective against throw it up and get it fade patterns. Just ask baylor 🙂

      • DrewChubbs says:

I would think it better for TCU to win. That would put them in the top 15, and Baylor would probably remain top 15, definitely top 20. The Frogs might fall out of the Top 25 with a loss. Keeping both could give us the 3 top wins with a win against pokie state. Plus Baylor wouldn’t 3-peat for the conference championship. At least that’s my take.

    • SamSooner says:

I feel ya. I’m sitting with Max trying to get interested. I might call it a night.

      • EasTex says:

        I’m too excited for tomorrow.
Mavs at 10:30a.m. on teamline. I decided not to go, the last two games I went to were playoff games and they lost both, one was the state championship against the Matthew Stafford led Highland Park team, the other was the regional finals a few years ago. Not going to jinx them this time.

        • SamSooner says:

I get it. Do what you must. They are one game closer. Let’s hope they can pull it out.

          • EasTex says:

I sure hope so. They hung 77 on one of the better programs in East Texas last week.

          • SamSooner says:

The Mavs been very solid since they lost their QB. They will be just fine. My gut tells me they will win tomorrow. Just a feeling.

          • EasTex says:

Not worried about the offense so much, the defense will be tested with the first real dual threat QB that can beat them with his arm or his legs.

    • KJ1123 says:

I keep trying to tell myself to go turn the game on….but going to the kitchen for leftovers is totally winning out. By a landslide.

      • EasTex says:

Just seeing the same players flopping around we have defeated the last two weeks. It makes me feel…unclean…watching them.

        • SamSooner says:

          Plus, they no longer matter.

        • KJ1123 says:

I know we’re just fans….but Im like spent from this guantlet. I’m ready to get this last one in…ready for us to have a complete beatdown to end this year. What a year.

          • EasTex says:

I have mixed feelings, having waited so many long months for the season, yet thrilled with how it could end.
I would love to see a dominant beat down by the Sooners, with the back ups playing the entire 4th qtr.

          • KJ1123 says:

That would be awesome. I realize there are bowl games to be played. But Im just really focused on tomorrow. Because anything after that is icing on the cake imo.

          • SamSooner says:

            That’s how I feel.

          • EasTex says:

I want the boys to be burning inside to pound the pokes.
After tomorrow it is an entirely new season and new territory for the coaches and players.

          • SamSooner says:

This game kind of reminds me of the Big XII championship game against Nebraska. OU started early and didn’t stop. It was a total blowout.

          • EasTex says:

What game was that? The last one we didn’t take the lead until late in the 4th.

          • SamSooner says:

EasTex, I believe I have that confused with a regular season game.

          • EasTex says:

Okay, I remember the ’08 game when the Sooners led 21-0 after about the first 4 minutes.

          • SamSooner says:

That must be the game. But I do have a good feeling about the game tomorrow.

          • EasTex says:

            As do I.

          • William Ryan says:

That’s the one that’s fresh in my memory Pryce Macon made some key plays and we actually started to pick on Prince Amukamara toward the end.

          • William Ryan says:

It was a masterful come back as well seemed like we was down by a decent amount and came back to win one of my favorite and most proud moments to be a sooner fan.

          • Zack says:

I hope this team still comes in with the “us against the world” mindset. This team seems to have that edge so long as baker is playing and I think that’s something other team’s lack right now. I haven’t watched many other team’s games from start to finish but I don’t see anyone with the type of confidence baker has. Reminds me of my favorite player, favre.

          • William Ryan says:

Maybe the Clemson qb is in the conversation but other than that none of the playoff teams has a qb that can elavate his game and come thru when his back is against the wall and making something out of nothing on sher guts and determination in front or the whole country.

      • SamSooner says:

KJ, I hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving. What’s the attitude of the team?

        • KJ1123 says:

Same to you Sam and everyone. Attitude is good, they practiced outside for a little bit today. Everyone was full go. I was interested in how Baker was handling the ball in the weather OK is having and was told it wasn’t a problem. I hope we get the ball first and jump on them quickly.

    • Dustin says:

      Mmmmmm……pie.

    • Dick Bump says:

For two ” love thy neighbor” parochial schools, they sure know how to deliver cheap shots.

    • Spitting Bull says:

Try this one. The TCU win helps us because it hopefully keeps both of them in the top 15. This looks better on our resume and is a separator. We should have one of if not the, highest number of wins over current ranked opponents. If TCU lost. They could have slipped all the way out with 3 losses and at #19. All we need to beat OSU and we’re in anyway.

    • SoonerSpock says:

Was best for OU to have Baylor win so the pukes would not have a conference championship opportunity as an incentive. I always root for what is best for OU but last night I could not let myself support Briles winning and have a third straight B12 Championship opportunity.

Besides now we have the bears losing 2 of their last 3 and with an OU win a return to their proper place in the conference. That has to be good for Sooner recruiting.

      • EasTex says:

For the Sooners it was always about winning this game and the championship. The painful loss to Texsa has been relegated to history as the Sooners found themselves after that.
For the pokes, it was about being the spoiler until late last night. They are more prone to choke now that it is for a championship and the doubt in their minds is fresh from a week ago.
Personally, I’m glad this game is for the whole enchilada.

  • EasTex says:

Thanks bears and toads. It’s almost half time, got a load of laundry done, vacuumed the living room ceiling fan, the living room/office area vacuumed, as well as the dining room.
Couldn’t have/wouldn’t have done it without you.

  • EasTex says:

Does the team go to Stoolwater in the morning?

  • EasTex says:

This just ain’t right. Wreaths Across America is $450,000 short for decorating all the headstones at Arlington for Christmas. Each wreath cost $15, and right now 30,000 headstones of our American Heroes could be without a wreath.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Last week my old school whipped the defending state champion and tonight they beat the number two team 23-3. Next stop….State Championship game!

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Watching this game makes me think Perine and Mixon give us a huge advantage tomorrow.

    • William Ryan says:

Most definitely and what’s makes them even more special is their balance especially Perine with his ability to use his hand to make off balance cuts against the grain of the defence.

      • Drew says:

Mixon is a great back, but I’m not sure how much he’ll be able to help tomorrow. He was slipping all over the place against Baylor in similar conditions.

        • William Ryan says:

He has such a low center of gravity, and just finds a way to keep moving foward.. especially on his first td. I thought he did an excellent job.

          • Drew says:

            Mixon or Perine?

          • William Ryan says:

            Perine.

          • Drew says:

That’s what I assumed, but you know what they say.

Perine runs incredibly close to the ground, to the point where it’s very hard to knock him over. Mixon is very quick, but his extra height makes it easier to undercut his strength, and in slippery conditions, he loses his ability to cut. I think he’ll be dangerous with another year with Smitty, where he’ll be able to make a few more of those work.

          • William Ryan says:

For sure sky’s the limit for this kid especially with his versatility.

          • William Ryan says:

Mixon will have a impact with his ability to stretch a defence and that alone is enough to cause problems for any d in any conditions.

    • EasTex says:

Some of the lighter guys might have big games, like Brooks, Baxter, Westbrook and others.

      • brainpimp says:

This is exactly what leads me to believe this may be Mixon’s biggest game. if they will use him as an outlet in the flat or running a drag across the middle I think he goes off for at least 2 long ones.

    • EasTex says:

I just hope this isn’t a preview of tomorrow night’s game with the weather and all the punts.

      • Drew says:

I’m hoping Perine and Mixon channel Kansas last year, and run for 250+ apiece. With how porous OSU’s run D is, it could happen.

      • William Ryan says:

Looks more like 2 evenly matched teams that wants it as bad as the other.. I think talent wise we are better than osu and hopefully Baker makes sure that it’s reflected on the scoreboard as well.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Exactly what I am thinking. The forecast says 60% chance of rain.

        • EasTex says:

It would be wonderful if any rain was intermittent or light, not a 100% chance like this game with a deluge.

      • Bill Holder says:

That’s what I’m thinking too. Best team doesn’t necessarily win with conditions like these teams are playing. Sooner or later one will turn it over deep in their own end.

        • EasTex says:

Yeah, or a DB could slip or fall leaving a WR open.
I want a win first, but would like to see a good, clean game, too.

      • Bob Edwards says:

I have always seen bad weather as an equalizer. Since we are the better team we don’t want an equalizer.

        • William Ryan says:

This is a fear of mine as well obviously we have the better play makers at the skilled position just can’t get overconfident and take care of the football.

    • soonerthunder says:

I’m worried that it might be the opposite. It might help OSU. If we can’t pass, they can load up against the run making our running less effective. When we can pass our running game is best. Just one slip here or a fumble and we could lose a sloppy game

      • brainpimp says:

That makes no sense. If any team can’t pass the other will load up to stop the run. That goes for every game ever played.

        • soonerthunder says:

You said it makes no sense then you said the same thing. I don’t understand saying something you think makes no sense. The TCU/BU game was Exhibit A on what I was talking about. Neither could throw, and neither could run. In other words, OU’s running game becomes non-existent along with OSU’s in weather like that and then the game is a 50/50 toss-up. I don’t want a game that’s a 50/50 toss-up b/c I think we are a lot better than OSU. Sorry you don’t understand that.

          • brainpimp says:

You said a problem that applies to every game and every team was a problem that only OU had in this game.

  • Chad says:

I have no fear. Sooners win big!

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

How will the committee view us if we win and ugly close game?

    • William Ryan says:

While the Spartans do the enviable and destroy Iowa next weekend…. it could get interesting in a bad way.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Well, I’m counting the B1G champ in. We’ll still have the third spot. Clemson, Bama, MSU, OU.

        • William Ryan says:

That’s true no way they can leave the big 12 champ out again let’s just hope that Stanford takes care of business and leave no doubt no matter how much of a media and cultural daring Norte dame is.

          • SoonerSpock says:

Let Notre Dame blow Stanford out, OSU squeak by OU and MSU beat Iowa. Likely would have Clemson, Alabama, MSU and Notre Dame. Remember Notre Dame’s brand and OSU’s brand. Might be an easy decision for the CFP committee.

        • William Ryan says:

If notre dame beats Stanford decisively it could get interesting from a sleep and worrying perspective until the rankings come out.

      • Mizuno44 says:

Hopefully that would knock Iowa out and replace with Sparty, leaving us in

    • Mizuno44 says:

Just need the W, we’ve got our biggest fan calling the game, Herbie

  • Boomer4life says:

Tcu and bears is really hard to watch. ..this might go into overtime! Lol!

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

People are not executing in the bear-frog game. There were 2 LM on a screen who didn’t block the one guy.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

This Baylor and TCU game looks so miserable.

  • Mizuno44 says:

Briles son looks like he should still be running a paper route instead of an offense

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    OT.

  • EasTex says:

Great, overtime for this crap sandwich of a game.

  • Mizuno44 says:

    Is that Dante Culpepper?

  • KJ1123 says:

Good job 42. Could of made a big stop.

  • William Ryan says:

It’s crazy to watch tcu and with their sub 200 lb show perfect form tackling despite being very undersize.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Oh my gosh, this game will never end. Of all the times for the ref to throw the flag…

  • Mizuno44 says:

I’d rather spend more time with my mother in law than watch this game, but I’ve invested too much time to not have resolution

  • Mizuno44 says:

    • Boomer4life says:

At the point of no return myself.

    • William Ryan says:

It’s actually nice to watch a game between two teams that are on the heel of defeat playing to see who is 3rd best… kind of like watching two ex girlfriends duke it out to only relize we already moved on to bigger and better things with a possible date looming with the hot girl.

  • KJ1123 says:

    Thats short

  • Fear The Magic says:

This is the football version of “the song that never ends”

  • KJ1123 says:

    Haha bye Baylor

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    Bear down!

  • Bluegrass Sooner says:

True Big 12 Championship Game tomorrow night.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Baylor has now lost 2 out of 3 games. The world is righting itself again.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    OU baby….

  • Boomer4life says:

The pukes are going to even more fired up now thinking they have a shot at the title. This will be a bedlam to remember.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Ha. Not like Baylor had a shot at the Big 12 title, anyway. That belongs to us after we whoop lil bro tomorrow.

  • KJ1123 says:

Patterson sounds like Chris Farley right now

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

So do they say now that the Big 12 has a championship game?

  • Tucker says:

Thought Briles was about to get assassinated.

    • Martin says:

Tucker, I was waiting for his Woody Hayes moment. Briles looked primed to slap a drunk TCU undergrad.

  • Bob Edwards says:

Well. of all the games I have ever watched, that was one of them.

  • EasTex says:

    Later dudes and dudettes.

  • rphokc says:

shame that this gauntlet down-the-stretch wasn’t with all participants healthy and good weather……good effort by the toads and bears

  • aklibtard says:

Was that a preview of what our game will look like? The weather is supposed to be just as wretched.

    • Zack says:

Well hopefully it stops prior to kick off. I show in okc the rain/ice stops from 6-10 so maybe it does the same up in Stillwater. Either way both teams have to deal with the nasty weather and they can’t run the ball.

  • Brad Warren says:

Good morning, Boomer! Let’s win the Big 12 tonight!

  • Zack says:

I see that osu fans are going to have plenty of signs dogging mixon. Kinda dumb considering their backyard isn’t any cleaner.

    • JJSoona says:

Really? That’s cheesey. Why would you go after one kid like that. Pretty sure the sign police won’t allow that.

      • Zack says:

I hope joe keeps his head and doesn’t try to look for the big play every time. I know he’s seeing the stuff osu fans have posted about him on Twitter. I just hope he doesn’t get obsessed with it.

        • hushnpa says:

been watching Joe a lot ,, after the play , like when jokeman went and stood right over him (after he was completely blocked out of the play 🙂 and Joe has been the finest example of how to stand up for himself without crossing the line or getting flagged . I would really like to see him commended for it . Its been really encouraging to me to see that .

  • EasTex says:

It’s still raining here in Dallas. Hasn’t stopped for more than a few minutes since Thursday night.
Sure hope this system breaks up so we don’t have an ugly weather game.

    • Exiled In Ohio says:

Forecast is 29 deg, 100% chance of light freezing rain. Sounds just like yesterday’s weather for Baylor-TCU. Not good.

      • blaster1371 says:

I looked at the weather channel last night for Stillwater. The hour by hour forecast said rain should lift about 3:00 pm. Of course, weather predictability in Oklahoma is not an exact thing.

        • Zack says:

I will say I did not think the weather would be this bad. All I’ve heard today is trees cracking. One of my neighbors was already out with a chainsaw trying to clear his yard.

          • blaster1371 says:

I do not miss those days at all. Not to rub it in but here in central California I put up Christmas lights in jeans and a t-shirt.

    • CKill1 says:

With our running game and Little Bro’s lack of same, I’m ok with bad weather. I’d like to run for 350 on them tonight. Don’t care if we beat them by 40, but a nice smash mouth, dominating death of 1,000 cuts by Perine/Mixon would be sweet.

Sorry for the Twitter stalker report, but when I clicked on his Twitter account… he had re-tweeted two different posts suggesting that he switch to an OU pledge (thanks to his HS teammate). I think OU has had a higher than normal success rate with LA kids in the program, so thats great news.

  • BleedCrimson says:

    Thank you Corso!!!!

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Chattman is a DB right? Says LB.

    • Brien Brown says:

It is possible he plays S and being looked at as a OLB in college not unlikely considering!

      • Jpsooner23 says:

He’s 6’4″ so I could see him filling out but at 175 schmitty would have is work cut out to get him that big!

        • Brien Brown says:

Freshman 15 and redshirt gets him to 190 to 200 and then he needs about 30 more to be at 220 to 230 which would be a decent OLB size!

        • Zack says:

If he came to ou then he may be nickel safety/olb. If he bulks up to 225+ then he could be a good fit against teams that like to run against a light box. Not sure how rangy he is though. I really like youngquist’s ability to play a role similar to tony Jefferson.

    • Stephen says:

      He’s a LB

  • Tom Turman says:

    #BOOM

    • Brien Brown says:

Here is the link as I am on Twitter and sure enough there you have it!

    • SamSooner says:

      Is this legit?

      • Brien Brown says:

It’s on his official Twitter page and being confirmed by many sources on his page and being re-tweeted by several outlets!

        • SamSooner says:

          I guess it is.

        • SamSooner says:

          Thanks, Brien!

          • Brien Brown says:

Tom below posted the original Boom I just followed it up and sure enough he was right and like you wanted to make sure it was official lol! But welcome all the same my friend!

          • Zack says:

Next time someone says our recruiting sucks or something to that extent just show them this commitment over the likes of bama, Michigan state, Michigan, Norte dame and others. Especially when no one thought we had a real chance

          • Brien Brown says:

Zack I agree but, just going say this cause I already know the argument some will counter with is that he wasn’t our first target or our second one so guess it works out when you settle for your 3rd or 4th choice. No again not me talking just the words I know that will be used, I am happy with him for sure, he looks great on film but, I will still say I hope that Z’Quan Hogan is a preferred walk on at least at OU!

          • JD says:

Im pretty sure he was Rileys first target though

          • Brien Brown says:

That may be! But most fans will think only of Whaley

          • JD says:

Think about this…Whaley just now committed and Adams visited recently…you could put those together for those people…I just remember Adams was Lincoln’s first choice and he had even offered him at ECU

          • Zack says:

I think Adams may have been offered first before boulware took over as running backs coach. Whaley was boulware’s first target from what I remember but I think Adams is actually a better fit. And considering where Whaley decided to go, makes me think fans laugh about his choice.

    https://twitter.com/chansesylvie/status/670667094237646848

I’m sure sylvie will be a solid player but even if he never plays a down here, he’s been a big help to our class on Twitter.

  • Jerry Reid says:

    BOOM!!

  • TulsaSooner33z says:

    Real Boom or no?

  • Chase B says:

    https://twitter.com/abdul_adams2/status/670665266989281280

First time poster, long time reader but I just saw this on Twitter and figured everybody here might enjoy this news. Not exactly sure how to post pictures or anything like that either but I’ll figure it out soon. BOOMER!

  • TulsaSooner33z says:

Welcome to th fam Mr. Adams!!

  • Brien Brown says:

According to 247 we went from 51st class to 41st class with just one commitment, think what, Daniels, Southall, Jones, Kelly and other would do for our ranking!

    • Zack says:

And likely another corner plus burton who’s a top 100 guy I think.

      • Brien Brown says:

Well that too, and if we can get a signing day coupe like Stoops usually pulls, which could be Cleveland, Juraez, or Price and maybe 2 of them the class would certainly move up for sure! Ed Oliver I believe is Cleveland’s teammate if Houston has a coaching change, both could be in play for OU, IMO!

        • JD says:

We won’t be taking 3 DTs but first two up..heck yeah

        • Tucker says:

They are teammates. Seriously doubt a coaching change happens anytime soon with the dollars recently thrown at Herman. However, I’m trying to be pretty optimistic of a flip of Oliver and landing Cleveland.

          • Brien Brown says:

I think Cleveland is a guy that I think could be on the bubble, like he knows he could be special in our system as he could Houston, but think family and friends are wanting him to stay close would not be surprised if he was a signing day coupe though!

  • Daddy R says:

Fuente getting hired by V. Tech to replace Beamer according to CBS..

    • Zack says:

Look for Houston to lose their coach soon. If money is the same you take the bigger job right?

      • Boom says:

Unless Houston is invited into the Big 12.

        • Zack says:

It’s possible but if they wanted Houston they would have added them instead of wvu. Wvu makes no sense being in the big 12 since the league decided not to add any natural rivals. They could have added Pittsburgh at the very least. Louisville made a lot of sense and so did cincy.

          • JB says:

Yeah, the SWC was an awful conference. I don’t see the Big 12 succeeding by reconstructing the SWC so i dont see Houston, Rice or Smu getting an invite.

I never saw Cincy making any sense. Their program is a turd with only a few years of recent success. Louisville was a step up from Cincy, but they still didn’t make a great deal of sense. Furthermore, Louisville is a bad academic joke. Losing Colorado, Nebraska, Mizzou and A&M hurt in that regard. I just don’t see us bringing in any more bad academic programs into the fold. I could see a service academy like Air Force or Navy before I could see any of the others. BYU is still the most likely addition if we add anyone.

      • CKill1 says:

I know we’ve talked about this before and probably just have to agree to disagree, but I think he stays around this year. He shows loyalty by staying and if he can produce a winner again next year, just proves himself more. Guess we will just have to see. But if he leaves, make sure to send me a message and I’ll post a shot of me and my crow dinner! 🙂

        • Zack says:

I think there’s a 60% chance he leaves. And if either a&m or tcu open up this year, he will probably be the top candidate for those jobs and I would say 90% if one or both of those open.
Some rumors that maybe Patterson looks at lsu.

  • Jordan Esco says:

2016 DT & recent OU visitor, Jordan Elliott commits to Michigan

  • KatyOUdad says:

    Georgia just fired their coach.

  • Zack says:

    Florida??? GTFO

  • STL Sooner says:

Westbrook will step into the #1 WR spot next year. Baxter and Andrews will improve and make bigger contributions too. I trust Cale, Simmons and Riley to get the young guys ready to play and contribute. It’s impossible to replace Shep, but we will adjust. #NextManUp

    • JB says:

I think it will be Miciah Quick. Westbrook drops too many passes.

      • Zack says:

You might want to re-read that one. Quick had big time drops in his first year. One reason he’s behind all those mentioned above. Hopefully the light comes on for quick though. A lot of excitement about him when we landed him.

  • Randy says:

    I want Tyrie Cleveland…!!!

  • Tim A says:

Is Dahu Green still with team and dressing out? Not that I expected to see him play lately, but I never even see him on sideline any longer.

    • Zack says:

He has a foot injury. Not sure but I think they let players who weren’t dressing out stay home for the holiday. Seems like Sunderland was at home instead of in Stillwater. He was live tweeting during the game.

      • Tim A says:

Thx much Zack! Good to know – I was worried perhaps there was an issue with him. Thx again – I have high hopes for him.
