Chris Daniels: The Sooners were hoping for potentially three commitments this week, one from WR Velus Jones and the other from LB Elysee Mbem-Bosse. However, both prospects decided to delay their scheduled announcements. The third and final expected announcement this week is from DT Chris Daniels, who will decide between Oklahoma, Michigan and Alabama. Although most feel this is a battle between the Sooners and Wolverines.

But it wouldn’t be fun without any drama, right? Yesterday, Texas decided to throw their hat in the ring late for Daniels hoping to pique his interest at the last minute. I spoke to Daniels’ father last night to get a sense of his son’s interest in Texas and whether the planned announcement would still go forward.

Daniels’ father said, “He (Chris) is still going to announce, but he is torn…coach Strong played ball with my uncle at UCA, went to school with my dad, and knows my entire family…”

Daniels’ father went on to say that he and Strong spoke last night (during the dead period, coaches are allowed one phone call per week) and the conversation, “was awesome…just like with Saban, Harbaugh and Stoops.”

So as of last night Daniels’ announcement this evening was still on, but we will continue to monitor it. And it’s also worth mentioning that Daniels has already said he plans to take at least a couple visits even after announcing his commitment. – (Super K)

Mark Jackson: Before standout 2016 DE/OLB, Mark Jackson (Cibolo, TX) committed to Texas A&M last summer, the Sooners were one of the other schools he was seriously considering. Earlier this week I spoke to a source close to Jackson, who said that Jackson’s parents are not necessarily sold on him going to Texas A&M. The not so good news for Oklahoma is that apparently Jackson’s father wants his son to end up at Texas.

I spoke with Jackson himself yesterday, who informed me that in January he plans on taking three official visits, one to Texas A&M, one to Texas, and one to Oklahoma.

So it sounds like OU will finally get a chance to have Jackson, and perhaps his family, on campus. This is will obviously be an important visit, as OU needs at least one pure pass rusher in this 2016 class. – (Super K)

Quartney Davis: You may be aware Texas A&M is struggling right now. Their top two quarterbacks are transferring, and they also lost one of their top WR commits this past week in Quartney Davis (Houston, TX).

Davis apparently reached out to Oklahoma once he decommitted and has announced that he will take an official visit to Norman on January 22nd.

Brandon will have more with Davis later as to what sparked his interest in the Sooners. – (Super K)

Kyle Allen: One of the quarterbacks who has become available as a result of the exodus from College Station is one-time five star recruit, Kyle Allen.

I spoke with a source who confirmed to me that Oklahoma has been in contact with Allen. This same source also said there is not currently a trip to Norman on the schedule for Allen, but a visit “is supposed to happen soon.” – (Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 10:54 am): Sooners make the Top 5 — Oklahoma, Alabama, Texas A&M, UCLA & USC — cut for elite 2016 ATH Jack Jones.

– UPDATE (Fri., 6:41 pm): Bob Stoops announced Friday night that talented redshirt freshman offensive tackle Kenyon Frison is no longer with the program. Stoops said “Frison has not met the requirements set forth for him to remain a member of our team and has been removed from the roster.”

– UPDATE (Sat., 7:17 pm): Presumably OU’s top DB target, and recent visitor, in this 2016 class, Parnell Motley, decommits from Maryland.
