Open Post | Weekend, Jul. 31st – Aug. 2nd (UPDATE Sun., 7:00 pm)

Chanse Sylvie: I exchanged a few texts with OU’s most recent commit, Chanse Sylvie, yesterday who made it abundantly clear that he’s excited to be a Sooner. Sylvie gave me the indication that, if possible, he’d even like to get back to Norman for yet another visit before the summer is out.

Something I found very interesting was last year when I asked PJ Mbanasor which coaches had the biggest impact on his decision to make a commitment to Oklahoma, he said Jerry Montgomery and Chip Viney. I asked Sylvie the same question and he said, “(Kerry) Cooks and Chip (Viney).”

Viney seems to be a reoccurring theme in landing top DB prospects. – (Super K)

Bryce Youngquist: As you all know by now, star 2016 LB Bryce Youngquist will announce today at 6 pm (CST). Yesterday I mentioned that I went against what was at the time the prevailing opinion (i.e. Oregon was the strong favorite), and said I feel good about OU’s chances with Youngquist.

As it stands right now, I have no reason to feel any different.

So OU fans may be staring at back-to-back days that could include a #BOOM. In case you’re not a Twitter person, we will post Youngquist’s decision here as soon as he releases it. – (Super K)

Weekend Visitors: OU is planning to host a number of top recruits this weekend:

* Jeffrey Okudah: Okudah (Grand Prairie, TX) is, in my opinion, the top DB in the land for the 2017 class. I do not say this with any semblance of hyperbole, Okudah is (God willing) a future Top 10 overall NFL Draft pick. He has exceptional size, speed and change of direction. But what really separates Okudah is the seriousness of his disposition.

I could go on and on about Okudah, and perhaps I’ll take a day and type up a detailed post about him. As a player, I’ve observed him at camps/clinics and spoken to him on a few occasions at length. Honestly, I’m just fascinated by him.

He has a very rare maturity. Oklahoma getting him back on campus (he visited for a junior day) is important. Okudah recently mentioned to me that he may graduate early and, as such, he’s not the kind of player OU or any school can afford to wait on in terms of their approach to recruiting him. – (Super K)

* Robert Barnes: Another excellent 2017 prospect the Sooners will host this weekend is Oklahoma legacy Robert Barnes (Southlake, TX). For a safety, Barnes has unique size — standing around 6’3″ — but the first thing that stands out about him is how light he is on his feet and how low he is in his transitions.

A lot of people would look at his size and assume he’s going to end up at linebacker. In my opinion he COULD transition to LB if he wanted, but he really does have the athleticism to excel at the safety position. Barnes brings a knowledge of football to the game and is a polished prospect with tremendous upside. He’s been well trained by his father — former Sooner football player, Reggie Barnes — and is the type of player OU needs to continue to try and bring in. – (Super K)

* Obi Eboh: Also expected to visit this weekend is 2016 DB Obi Eboh (Southlake, TX). I have not had a chance to speak with Eboh this week, however, to determine whether a commitment is at all possible. But I will say that in the past, Eboh has always struck me as someone who is very much interested in some of the academic schools like Duke, Vanderbilt & Stanford. I can say with a fair degree of confidence that if Stanford offered, that’s likely where Eboh would end up.

As a prospect I’m a fan of Eboh’s game, but I’m just not certain I like him as a true cornerback. There are a few things I’d like to see him do in-person before I can sign off on him as a corner. On film I see a guy who is comfortable playing a loose Cover-3 technique, but with Cooks wanting to play an aggressive match-man type Cover-3 corners need to have more than just good speed. They need to have developed, instinctive transitional ability, and that takes a lot of training and fluidity throughout the body.

You have to be able to get depth in your pedal and break or turn. That’s where I’d like to see Eboh up close, to get a better sense of that because on film he appears a little tight and heavy-footed in his transitions. But again, I’d like to see more of him in-person to say for certain.

What I do love about Eboh, though, is that he has great size/speed and is clearly a very intelligent prospect. There is always a place in the secondary for a guy like that. If he can develop into a cover corner, great! If not, he has the size, athleticism and mental capacity to potentially turn into a very good nickel or safety prospect. – (Super K)

* Chris Robison and Gary Overshown: 2017 OU QB commit Chris Robison let me know last night that he will also be in Norman this weekend. I asked him if his teammate, TCU DE commit Gary Overshown, will come with him (Overshown and Robison visited together earlier in the summer) and Robison said he didn’t know. I wasn’t quite sure how to take that so while I cannot say Overshown is coming, I’m adding his name as a possible visitor for now and keep working to confirm one way or another whether he makes the trip or not. – (Super K)

* Secret Visitor: Also this weekend OU is being visited by a big time offensive lineman target that is currently committed elsewhere. In fact, he is actually on campus at the time of this post going up. The prospect, however, preferred his name not be mentioned and we are going to respect that.

I know some of you would prefer not knowing that a visitor was on campus unless we can release the name, but I know there are others who would rather know a prospect was on campus regardless. If the prospect does give us permission to release the name, we will certainly do so. – (Super K)

* Marcel Southall: Brandon & Alex have also been able to confirm that standout 2016 DT Marcel Southall (Duncanville, TX) is also planning to be in Norman this weekend as well. Alex exchanged some texts with the highly sought after DL prospect, who shared that he will be joined on this trip by his mother, father & little sister. So expect the OU staff to roll out the red carpet looking to make a strong impression with the whole family. – (Super K, Alex & Brandon)

– UPDATE (Fri., 11:36 am): Just received word there is actually not one, but two ‘secret visitors’ expected on campus this weekend. The second is also an offensive lineman, one of the top JUCO prospects in the country for his class, committed elsewhere.

An already busy, high-profile weekend just got even busier, high-profiler (that’s a word, right?).

– UPDATE (Fri., 11:55 am): Got confirmation Gary Overshown will not be make the trip to Norman this weekend. Just wanted to pass that along as we noted above we would.

Short version is (1) he is coming to OU, (2) expecting to report for fall camp, (3) will be walking on. As many of you are probably aware already, Baxter was previously committed to South Florida.

Okudah, Barnes and Eboh. C’mon time to reel these guys in. If OU were to get all 3 of them at some point, would that put a close on DB recruiting?

    • Ed Cotter says:

Okudah and Barnes are with the 2017 class.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

ok thanks I guess my reading comprehension is lacking today

        • Ed Cotter says:

No problem….It’s just nice to get some studs on campus for visits. Hopefully this will mean an upturn in OU recruiting here for the next 6 months.

  • Troyce Lewis says:

So is Jeffrey a Safety or Corner at the Collegiate level?

  • Sooner Born N Bred says:

Really hope that mystery OL prospect is Parker Boudreaux. Certainly fits the bill as he is committed to Notre Dame.

  • Jason Vos says:

Hey K, with all the new DB talent coming in. Don’t you think Stanvon Taylor has been recruited over. Watched his tape yesterday and the guy was a pretty good receiver, he had over 1,100 rec yards. Wouldn’t it make sense to gibe him a shot there.

I know ive said this b4, but it makes no sense to me that we are wasting a scholarship on a DB that doesn’t play. When he could contribute on offense.

    • Super K says:

Yes I do feel that way bud. Really think he’s a fantastic athlete but in college football there is a game behind the game and most kids don’t know how to play it.

  • Boom says:

Just tell me it’s the Big Little visiting today and all will be good. Got to have Coach BedenBOOM to hit it out of the park for THE BIG LITTLE.

  • Fear The Magic says:

I have a feeling this OP will be going viral.

  • EasTex says:

Thanks for the excellent info, Super K.
It would seem the flurry of visits right now, especially for Texas kids, is that their summer practices for the 2015 season start in about two weeks. Other than official visits for game days, their travel time is about to come to an end.
Always glad to see a recruit come up with the whole family, getting input from folks he loves and trusts can clarify “lying eyes.”

  • Jason Vos says:

I’ll guess Tyler Brown as the secret visitor

  • bjwalker82 says:

Parker Boudreaux out of the question?

  • Jason Vos says:

Would be nice to get a BooM from Marcel Southall this weekend

For the people that keep asking about Boudreaux, sorry to be a Debbie Downer, but he seems pretty solid to ND: http://recruitdiaries.com/2015/07/30/parker-boudreaux-introduction/

Would love it if I was wrong, but he basically gushes about ND in that blog.

Busy weekend it looks like. Hopefully a chance for some serious booms.

I have a theory. People type in similar patterns, use words and phrases consistently. Notice the repeating periods and the two short phrases. This is also used by none other than Stephen Dale. I think Stephen Dale is the evil ego of one Jordan Esco.

      No kidding

    Patrick Hudson?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Let’s keep the weird in Austin 😉

      • Bob Edwards says:

        Agreed.

      • EasTex says:

There is one absolute good concerning Austin, it is only 20 minutes from Texas.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

I think I’ve heard that somewhere else before

          • EasTex says:

Probably from me, I am determined that place doesn’t create a false image for a great state.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Never actually been to Austin TX, but the places in TX I have been to are a lot like the rural areas in OK I know and love

          • Finney56 says:

Downtown Austin is actually really cool. I’m a native Texan (Dallas) and enjoy going down to visit and float the river. It’s definitely very liberal for such a conservative state though

          • EasTex says:

If only you could have known it in the 70’s to early 80’s.
Last time I was there was in 86, I swore to never return and haven’t. Driven through without stopping a few times and prayed I didn’t have cause to stop.

          • CKill1 says:

Born there in 1970. Seaton county memorial. Been back once for a ToughMudder in 2011, right after the Bastrop Co. fires. Traffic was awful where the interstate went past the Texa$$ stadium. Hard to get around in. Hard enough that I didn’t get to take my wife & kids out for decent Texas bbq.

          • Scott Moore says:

I live in Round Rock, Texas. 15 minutes north of Austin. Austin is a great city. Especially if you are young and want to have fun. It is by far the best city in Texas. Thus the 160 people from out of state moving here every day. The only knock on Austin is, they happen to be the home of the worst sports team in the NCAA. And their fans are obnoxious. But as a Sooner, when you own them as we normally do, it’s a lot of fun to be around them. And gloat. Boomer Sooner!

          • Shelby is a Patriot says:

My step-dad went to UT not too long after that. He did the same thing and got as far away from Austin as possible.

          • EasTex says:

And just like OK, that is where the true Heart of Texas is.

    • KJ1123 says:

      MOAR HIGH PROFILERS!

  • EasTex says:

    high-profiler

Since it is you, it is now. 🙂

  • KJ1123 says:

Oh man, this may be a highly entertaining OP today.

  • SoonerGray says:

Maybe start a list on the TOP of the guys in for the weekend?

Pretty cool that we’re having such a busy unofficial visit schedule before practices even start. Def a great sign!

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Haha this is going to be an eventful day. And I know it’s been said a ton, BUT GET VINEY ON THE STAFF FULL TIME!

  • SoonerinLondon says:

    I love this board.

Nothing to contribute today, other than to say thanks to the TFB team. I can’t tell you how much your insight, honesty and level-headed approach means to OU fans like me.

  • Stephen Dale says:

VERY good ……eliminate the publicity concerning the visit and possibly flip a committed athlete or two from elsewhere…….

  • Mizuno44 says:

    Is it 6:00 pm yet?

    • EasTex says:

It is some where, just not CDT.

      • Bob Edwards says:

Well he is in CA so is it 6 CDT or 6 PDT? Wait the article says CST, but we are in CDT. Spring forward fall back does that mean I add one or subtract one. OK, if it was CST and I went to CDT I would spring forward, so that is … 7 CDT. Wait is that right. I am so confused.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Its worse for me. Im in NYC so I have to wait till 7pm!

      • ColoradoSooner says:

Hang in there – you can do it!

      • BleedCrimson says:

So, we are going to hear it an hour before you? jk

        • Fear The Magic says:

Course I’ll give you guys the good/bad news 1 hour before or after it happens.

      • rphokc says:

        ot…….are you a nyr fan?

        • Fear The Magic says:

Big time in fact Brian Leech lived in my building up until a couple of years ago.

          • rphokc says:

reason I ask………wondered what the nyr fans/press thought of the draft/trades results………lost haglin which really disappointed me……..they didn’t seem to make a big splash after it was over, not sure if they improved measurably for next yr…….any thoughts?…..btw, since leech was close by, did you ever meet zubov, messier, et al……thxs

          • Fear The Magic says:

Honestly didnt like the moves the NYR made. Lost Haglin and even worse lost Talbot who IMO was a starting goalie for a lot of teams in the NHL. Got nothing in return really for either.
Ive met Leech and didnt officially meet Messier but passed him in my lobby a few times.

          • rphokc says:

yeah, there were comments during the playoff run last yr that they sold their souls, contract wise, for the cup run…….you’re correct re talbot…….perhaps some unproven youngster(s) will surprise…….kind of you to respond, thxs……….lgr

    • Bob Edwards says:

      In London.

  • KatyOUdad says:

I’m a daily reader and basically a non-poster, but would like your opinion on 2018 DE Max Wright from Katy (Taylor HS). Wright started all varsity games as a freshman and is already 6’4” – 230lbs and has offers already from Georgia, TCU, UH, Duke and Mizzou. The 247 site just listed him as the #7 player in 2018. Would love to see OU get this kid

    • EasTex says:

I love that young man’s game.
I asked Katyboomer about getting OU in his head, as he has a son that goes to Katy. Early indications are he has no interest in OU. Hope that can change.

  • j l says:

2nd secret visitor would basically have to be leavitt right?

Cant think of another highly rate juco OL we are after thats committed elsewhere

    • Rick says:

This is of course strictly spectulation, and you could be exactly right. I would spectulate that you err, only for 1 reason, that is where he is committed to. I would think the Stoops boys look out for each other. My guess would be Champion or Autry. Fun to think about!

      • j l says:

I hadnt really considered the stoops connection, but do you think bob would tell a kid no if he asked to visit? he might not push hard for him to flip, but i would suspect he wouldnt turn him away for a visit.

According to 247, we havent offered champion(might be inaccurate, since they show only MSU offering)

I didnt know we were recruiting autry, but with him playing in coffeyville, it does seem to make sense.

    • Super K says:

      No it’s not Leavitt

  • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Don’t forget, fellow faniacs. Tomorrow is the first day of national Football Hype Month (FHM). Looks like the Brainiacs have taken a good first step to get us in the spirit. Thank you, Brainiacs. And thank you, August, for making our wait one month longer.

  • soonerinks says:

I am probably one of the few that thinks that Kish is a very good LB coach and his recruiting was pretty solid last year and could be very good this year. My question is if Kish was to retire at the end of this year, could Viney step up and coach LB’ers or could one of the other coaches move to LB’er and Viney move to DB’s? Would really hate to lose Viney as he seems to have a very good rapport with recruits.

    • Fear The Magic says:

I saw a recent interview where Kish said that hes planning on retiring in 2026 so I don’t think this is going to happen.

      • soonerinks says:

Any thoughts on how they could make room for Viney? My understanding is that can only keep him thru this year without an actual coaching position.

        • BoomerDave says:

They could put him in a quality control position which would allow him on the field, or they could give him some title (like OSU just did this past winter) and give him a nice salary. This may not be enough to keep him as I think he could become a hot commodity.

          • Sooner Ray says:

My hope is they cut a weak link and add him as an actual coach and recruiter, otherwise I think he will be too hot in the market to stay around as a QC guy.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

I think the LB play this year will provide us a better indication of Kish’s coaching. On top of the pressure to produce a better on-field product, he’s brought in a number of true LB types, which we really haven’t had since Lofton, and with key guys playing at the ideal(-ish) weight.

    • Rick says:

I would venture to say that his recruiting abilities have not gone unnoticed with the powers. I think they would not be wanting to let someone go with his success. It probably comes down to dollars and cents just like any other business.

    • Rick says:

Will the choice “d” be GOOD before or BAD before?

    • Daryl says:

I am going with C with a healthy side of Kish. Even though this particular LB from the beginning has leaned to Oregon. Everyone thinking we are his choice really surprises me.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I tried to sum it up in the daily post earlier this morning, take a look.

  • Boom says:

One thing I will say about Kish. How many college football fan bases know who their LB coach is compared to OU. He’s got that going for him.

  • Rick says:

Kish has gotten such a unwarranted rep since he has been here, I’m hopeful this class of LB’s in school now will show what he’s really like. I think the stigma came from that year MS experimented with no LB’s and only put DB’s behind the line. The spreads didn’t pass all that well but OMG the running backs had a field day. I don’t think that was his fault, I think that criticism should fall elsewhere.

    • DCinAZ says:

Read something the other day that when he got here and evaluated his backers he was quoted as saying “so I’ve got ONE linebacker”. Wort leaving probably didn’t help him either. He wasn’t left with a stocked cupboard from Venables by any measure. I believe Mike’s pulling the linebackers his first year here damaged our ability to recruit backers that we’re just starting to recover from. Certainly not all Kish’s fault by any measure be he’s the popular scapegoat.

I have a feeling your feeling is probably right.

Hell, the comments after Younquist announces alone may set a record…

If he picks the good guys, the board will be in euphoria… if he goes elsewhere, the pitchforked mob will be tearing K to shreds for getting their hopes up. Either way, that announcement is likely to stimulate a LOT of talk tonight.

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Sooner 4Ever, what say you we need clarification are you a Male or Female?

      • Sooner 4Ever says:

        Male.

My profile pic is of my middle daughter (on the left). I have 5 kids (4 girls and a boy).

other young lady in that pic is our oldest daughter’s best friend. She is basically our 5th daughter. I coached her in AAU basketball in 6th-9th grade and she was with us all the time and is a part of the family… despite the fact that she chose to play volleyball at Texas. She has a national championship ring, so I can’t really fault her choice too much… and it helps that despite playing athletics at Texas, the last time we talked about it she said she still cheers for OU against Texas in the Cotton Bowl.

        • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Ok, Sorry for the mix up did not mean to offend if I did. Oh and tell the 5th daughter.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

No offense taken at all. Sooner 4Ever could be for either sex and my profile pic is of 2 young ladies.

And our young longhorn is in Korea playing volleyball… getting paid to play and using the opportunity to get ready for USA volleyball ’16. Pretty good chance she’ll be rep the red, white and blue in the ’16 Olympics.

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Well thanks, but that is twice today I have been mistaken. Damn I was on a roll this week to.

          • Sooner 4Ever says:

Sorry to disappoint and I’m never going the Bruce Jenner rout so you’re not going to get any “righter” on this one some day down the road. LOL

Top 5 Offenses in OU history by scoring avg.

    2. 1956 47
    3. 1971 45
    4. 1974 43
    5. 2003 43

Those were pretty good years for the Sooners. So let’s hope Riley can score some points.

  • soonerjunky says:

    Question-
If you’re at the gym working out and you see Rufus Alexander and Nic Harris working out together, do you say something?
    And you are their age

    • Defend Colfax says:

      You say “Boomer!”

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d open by complimenting the state of Louisiana. After that, you’re on your own.

    • Sooner 4Ever says:

Were/are they wearing earbuds? If so, say nothing. I wear earbuds when I lift mostly because I like to use music to keep me inspired when working out… but I also wear them to keep Blabbering Bobby Benchpress from striking up a conversation between sets. I workout hard and try to stay focused on what I’m about so I can achieve the best results for my time spent grinding.

I’ll be more than happy to spot you in the bench if you ask… but I’m not interested in hearing about your day while I’m working out. Most other lifters wearing earbuds feel the same way.

**Edit – although a “Boomer” in passing would almost certainly not bother a pair of former Sooner greats, either.

I never answer to anyone EXCEPT….. “Honey, are you still in Michigan”, No dear, I’ve moved to Gary, Indiana today. “So you’ve traveled 50 miles in the last 2 days?” Yes dear, just looking for the best possible load. “So you found one?” Yes dear, loading another oversized on Monday to Dallas. “Okay dear, see you next week.” So you can see by that conversation I have been working hard these two days and my “ahem” employer is very happy with me.

  • Cush Creekmont says:

It’s 4:00 Central – Bryce, just announce OU now and say the time matches my new school.

  • Zack says:

Went over to the ducks 247 board and they have quite a few posters who think he’s going to Norman. I thought it was hilarious that one of the posters asked why in the world he would choose OU. In 2000 we had the same amount a national titles as they had conference titles. Just funny that Oregon thinks they’re a top 5 program.

Oh and they seem to think they have a real shot at Caleb kelly

  • Rod says:

Fresh off those trips, despite being impressed with both the Badgers and Sooners, Youngquist held firm when asked who was on top for his services.

“I’d probably say Oregon,” he told The Oregonian. “With Oregon, the people who make up the program… it’s such a team-first attitude and the coaches know the players and what the players have gone through. That makes a big difference. When I went to Oregon everyone was on the same page and nice. There was no trouble whatsoever. It’s just a great place to be around good people who care for you and want to help you succeed.”

    • ccmosaic says:

So, Rod are you saying Oregon? It sounds like a lot of people are winking towards Oklahoma. I honestly have no idea what to think. Either way we will find out soon enough.

    • Zack says:

I want to speculate here for a second, after reading their boards and other comments. They have 2 LB committed and while they definitely want Bryce, they seem to have 2 others on their board equal or higher and maybe Bryce tried to tell Oregon he was going to commit and the coaches might have asked him to wait. That may have killed his desire to go there whereas OU would take him any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s.

      • j l says:

Do you think that might have been why he changed his commitment time? maybe some last minute news?

        • Zack says:

Well I think he probably had today as the day he wanted to commit for awhile. The word was before his visit that a decision would come soon after.

          • j l says:

I thought he changed the time(not date) of his commitment last night. Thats what i was referring to.

He’s getting it done in recruiting. Hopefully bringing in athletes like this, we will see even better results on the field in the next couple of years which will generate more interest and more top recruits which…well, yeah.

    • Ed Cotter says:

Kish is the one that needs to coach them up, but Simmons and Viney seem to be the main guys mentioned in their recruiting. Not saying he hasn’t had a hand in it, but he hasn’t been getting the mention, the other two have. Just sayin’.

  • KJ1123 says:

    That was awesome…but now please:
Caleb Kelly = FULL COURT PRESS!!

    • Brien Brown says:

I think Kelly is already an OU lean which in the case of the Duck and Youngquist can change in a blink. I feel real good about Kelly though, I think this could help us land a 4th guy though that maybe we wouldn’t have mean maybe it helps us land another stud LB. Mean I know we still need Kelly but, this doesn’t hurt our chances with him and think we get Kelly on board with Terry and BY I think a 4th would join. Maybe Draper looked at the guys we where after and decided he couldn’t compete or didn’t want to try to compete against them lol.

  • Tom Turman says:

Caleb Kelly, Devwah Whaley, Jeffery Okudah, Robert Barnes, Obi Eboh…who’s next? Need to see some more Denzels…Keep this train rolling…

  • hOUligan says:

Great pic of Okudah and Barnes. Next!! Those are some tall kids. They make Bob look like Lil Nicky. LoL

  • Stephen says:

I’ve never seen Twitter blow up like this before….

    • Brien Brown says:

This has been a real good past two days for OU could be a great 3 to 4 I think they could get 1 or 2 more this weekend.

  • Brien Brown says:

Does anyone wanna play guess the OL that’s a secret visitor that’s on campus that’s committed to another school? I have 3 guesses Austin Myers commit to TCU, J.P. Urquidez commit to Baylor, or Parker Boudreaux commit to ND are my guesses. as far the Juco OT goes my guess is Tate Leavitt commit to Kentucky.

  • Stephen says:

Did OU just add WR Jarvis Baxter?

  • rphokc says:

    via os…..round 2?

“Now all this being said, the race isn’t entirely run for Youngquist, who has said he plans to take all five of his official visits. “I really want to take all of my official visits, even after my decision. (Wisconsin) will get one. Oklahoma and Oregon will get one as well and I’ll also visit Arizona State and Washington State”

  • Cush Creekmont says:

Holy cow! Stephen Dale was actually POSITIVE today and all this happened – I sure hope he can be positive for six more months and we could have a great class and an NC.

  • Tom Turman says:

Marcel Southall visiting tomorrow and Chanse Sylvie already recruiting him on Twitter…

    • Brien Brown says:

  • Doobie74OU says:

What allows him to get out of his commitment at UCF and walk on at OU and can Lampson do this as well?

    • EasTex says:

It is strange that he supposedly signed with USF on NSD and is walking on at OU.

      • John Garner says:

        Apparently USF released him.

        • JB says:

If I read posts above correctly, i think USF wouldn’t allow him to take 9 summer credit hours but OU does. So, if he can’t meet their requirements then they have to release him. They can try to stall like Texas is doing on Lampkin but they do not have reason to since they don’t face OU. TFB said all Texas is doing is delaying the inevitable with Lampkin.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

K is teasing us on Twitter again! Next week.

Sooners pick up a blazer in the Ryan Broyles mode going to walk on this is a big deal as he is an automatic qualifier and has 3 to play 2.. I kept telling people a few months back, all the haters OU is going to coming back strong and 14 was an anomaly, not to get past 15 but we are setting up pretty good for 16 for sure…..Double post because I need the attention!

    • JrsySooner says:

Good morning fellow Brainiacs, was saddened by the piper news grew up watching that guy. The sun still came up today and as always it’s a great day to be a SOONER!!!

And a very good morning to you.
Was never a big wrestling fan, but he was one of those guys who had a personality that transcended the sport.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Yes he was very very vocal. Loved his persona.

      • JB says:

I couldn’t give 2 sh**s about fake pro wrestling, but I enjoyed him in They Live. One of my favorite movie lines of all time: “I came here to chew bubble gum and kick ass, and I’m all out of bubble gum!”

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

I am getting very exited about all these commits as of late. Now let’s see what the new guys on campus can do for us. Very exiting times ahead so sit down and hold on could be a wild ride. BOOMER!!!

  • Peabody Thekat says:

Well…however, a sad thought,… OU gets guys who can’t meet academic requirements for some schools….not Stanford, etc., but like S. FLA..especially texASS….they should get guys who can’t get into OU. ? ? ? In a perfect world..

    • Daddy R says:

-One, we havent gotten Texass guy, YET.

-Two, Texass’ requirements for foreign language are different than most universities IN THE ENTIRE US.

-Three, not sure anyone has said J. Baxter did not qualify. Not sure what is up there, but have heard nothing of him not qualifying.

-Four, many have reasoned that Lumpkin may have actually had change of heart back to OU, and this was the easiest way he could accomplish that…

-Five, Why trash the Sooners for some good news???

    • KJ1123 says:

That doesnt make sense. Need to get guys who cant get into OU? That means their academics arent good enough to get in almost anywhere. OU has plenty of guys that could get into any school across the US. Including schools in Cali (UC) where it’s difficult to get in and maintain your scholarship. One or two guys dont define what type of student athletes OU goes for.

      • Jed says:

Neighbor kid transferred from U Cal system school to OU three years ago. Found that about half his credits didn’t meet OU’s standards. Not crapping on anyone, but there are complexities involved in these things.

        • KJ1123 says:

No thats a good point and another example of how its not like OU has a low academic standard. There will always be credits left out no matter what state you transfer to but to say OU is going for guys that cant make it in at another college is just a poor statment.

          • Jed says:

It’s also good to remember that the mission of a state school is different than that of others institutions. Part of that mission is making access as broad as possible.

          • JB says:

OU has become more restrictive since I went there in the 90s.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

According to C&C, S. Florida limits the number of hours that can be credited for summer school to no more than nine. OU does not. With credit for all the course taken, Baxter meets academic requirements.

    • Boomerborn79 says:

This website is called the Football brainiacs, not the academic brainiacs. This is good news for OUr team and will make them better. If OU was in the SEC how would you feel about our academics? Would this be OK then? You do realize the kid did all his work to be accepted by 85% of colleges but took 9 credit hours over the summer. 80% of major colleges accept 9 credit hours over the summer, some of which offered him, but he chose to WALK on and earn a scholarship at OU. He did his work yet on here we are asking why OU’s academic standards are so low that he can be excepted? I’m happy we got him and honored that a kid with full ride offers at other reputable programs would rather walk on and be a SOONER than take those offers.

    • Brent says:

he will be a walk-on. what’s the downside again?

    • JB says:

Hard to complain about getting a “freebie” who may turn out to be a quality player for OU. Correct me if im wrong, but at least I’ve never read about this guy getting into trouble. We wasted a scholarship on a criminal (DGB) who used us and never played a down for OU. I prefer having solid citizen who is willing to pay his own way and work to get on the field.

I’ve expressed my concerns repeatedly over Bob Stoops’ decision-making in recent years, particularly with retaining his brother as DC but firing the offensive staff. But one thing you can’t question is the academic progress and graduation rates he’s fostered. We are at or close to the top of the Big 12 every year in team APR. We picked up Jalen Saunders from Fresno State and he turned out to be a dynamite player. I’m not saying Baxter will be Saunders, but give him a chance to show what he can do.

I think we will land 4 linebackers this year. Terry and youngquist already committed and I believe Kelly is only a matter of time. So that 4th one can be anyone at this point. There’s Jefferson from the boot, camarouche, Marvin terry and dontavious Jackson. Who do you guys think the 4th kid will be?

I watched his hudl film from his sophomore year: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/2721290/highlights/164041375/v2

He has good hands and elusiveness, reminds me a little of Jalen Saunders but not as fast. He has good but not great speed. You can only glean so much from a highlight film since they only include the best plays. I think he has a chance to see some playing time as we will be using a lot of different WRs in each game, but I expect him to be down the list behind a number of others if he makes the field. His biggest offers were from TTU & USF. But since he’s a walk on and isn’t costing us anything, it’s a perfect situation for OU…best case is that maybe we got a steal, and worst case is he never sees the field. Either way, a scholarship won’t be taken up unless he earns one his senior year. It’s a win-win, and I’m happy we have another WR in the mix.

  • JB says:

I am exceptionally happy for the Youngquist commitment. We need and cannot get enough Cali talent, and this one is a major talent according to TFB. If we want to be great again, we need to have a great defense. I want to see us get back to having our most talented players on defense. This is a GREAT step in that direction especially if Ricky DeBerry and Neville Gallimore prove to be as good as advertised. We still need an overhaul in defensive philosophy from the last 2 years, but the talent pool appears to be increasing.

    • JB says:

If we add Caleb Kelly we will have some amazing talent for the future.

    • BleedCrimson says:

I am really looking forward to seeing this defense play this upcoming season. I am thinking we are going to be pleasantly surprised. I think that the experience the young guys got last year is going to show up big time this year, especially with Cook being in charge of all the DB’s. I think a lot of the problems last year were directly related to having the DB’s as two separately coached groups.

      • hOUligan says:

Agree. Really jacked for it all. Having Riley install a cohesive offense will also help take off some pressure if he has a QB. Could be special.

      • JB says:

I think Cooks will make them better. I just want to see us get back to more pressure defense and man coverage. The only consistent thing I’ve seen in the Big 12 is that those who rely heavily on zone defense like we did under BV and the last 2 seasons get picked apart.

    • Hotrod33 says:

It seems the coaches have really put an emphasis on getting the defense back to where it needs to be. I like how this class is shaping up.

What, three booms in two days isn’t enough? LOL Man, you are hard core.

      • John Garner says:

LOL. There was three BOOMS? I must have missed one. Not sure how unless you’re referring to Baxter, the walk-on WR, as number three. I know we have a good shot at DT Southall. That’s who I was thinking of and kind of hoping for..

        • Ed Cotter says:

Yes, counting Baxter. Chip Viney also tweeted this morning “Just wait on it”. Last time that was tweeted Chanse Sylvie committed. Maybe OU was able to pick up Southall, or one of those secret visitors that Super K referenced yesterday. Would be fantastic.

          • John Garner says:

Yeah, it was the Viney tweet that made me think we could see something today. That and Sylvie’s. Getting two felt so good, it was easy to think a third was in the offing.

          • Rick says:

I was trying to get some momentum on twitter today along the #OUDNA theme to get a permanent position for Viney. Not much traction, I got a few favs from people but no one seemed interested in getting the ball rolling.

I gotta say black unis are legit.

          • Stephen says:

If this is real, I’d like to see what they do with the helmet. I know black is something the players would like and it’s about them not us as fans.

          • EasTex says:

I don’t understand, why isn’t it about the fans? We are the ones who want to watch them play.
Especially when some fans like it and some don’t. I imagine it is the same with the players, some will like it and some won’t.
For teams with no history or tradition of success, like Taco Tech/Oregon/Baylor it makes a lot of sense, they had to jump up and down and yell “look at me.”
Black isn’t and never has been a part of the school’s colors, except for the shoes.

          • Boom says:

Stephen, gotta say I’m on your side on majority of things. However, these uniforms aren’t OU. I’m going to ask a simple question, does Bama/Penn State/tOSU (i could go on) change their unis? Same reason as OU, we have a brand, no need in changing it IMO.

          • Zack says:

I believe teams should trot out an alternative each year. Yes ou doesn’t need gimmicks but by going out once at home and once on the road, they aren’t throwing away tradition. To me they still need fresh ideas to keep up with the times and in this era of college football, fresh uniforms matter to the kids everyone wants to recruit.
I do agree it’s not a necessity but I’m open to having 2 games a year with alternates. If the coaches and players do their job they will get to play 2 post season games, in which case it would make up for those 2 where they wore alternates.

          • Stephen says:

I’m not for or against these until I see the entire uniform, if these are indeed the real deal. These are obviously just the shirt-jerseys that are modeled after the real thing (allegedly) but Texsa, Bama, Georgia, LSU, Ohio State and Oregon would be getting these as well.

          • hOUligan says:

Uniforms evolve over time but using the ‘school colors’. I’m good with it as long as OU sticks w/ crimson and cream. Got used to and like the white ‘bring the wood’ jersey and helmets.

          • Eric Hoffpauir says:

Ohio State does indeed have alternate uniforms.

          • Stephen says:

I see your argument, and I agree with some of it but uni’s, stadiums, dorms are all playing a bigger role in recruiting than ever before. For schools like OU that has a lot of tradition, it’s hard to balance the past with the future and I honestly don’t think they can or will ever make something that does both and pleases both sides. It’s like in the 90’s when nobody needed a cell phone to live, communicate, be social and now if you don’t have one, it’s a knock against you.

          • EasTex says:

I have to respond to the 90’s analogy.
You and I know each other well enough to understand we can disagree without being disagreeable. So we have that going for us. 🙂
Your analogy illustrates why we disagree on the unis, it is age and experience related. I have approximately 40 years on you and were I in your age group or you were in mine we would probably disagree on this for the same reasons we do now.
You probably have little memory of people without cell phones. I remember a time when not only did they not exist, many people had “party lines” on their home phones and not a “private.”
Me, I carried a pager through most of the 80’s and would exit a busy freeway to find a pay phone. Then I got my first “car” phone in 90. It was analog and cost over $400 and was charged 36 cents a minute. My monthly phone bill be about an inch thick and was generally around $500 a month. But it was crucial to me, made me much more productive and helped generate substantial profit.
Now I have a quad-core smart-aleck phone that reads my text messages to me while I drive and allows me to text back the same way. The monthly bill is only a fraction of what it used to be and I have interweb access, HD screen, camera and navigation to boot.
While we couldn’t have known what was to come 25 years ago with the advances in digital tech, I believe it was the desire by so many that the tech behind it was driven.
However, when I retire(which I hope is soon, Lord willing), I will keep a smart-aleck phone, but doubt I will turn it on very often. I look forward to not needing it.

          • Stephen says:

            Everybody loves a good 90’s analogy (-:

Proof we have worn black and white. 😉

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Yes, but in “those times” EVERY team wore black and white….

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Yes, indeed. Attempted comedy. 🙂
For me, I love the tradition of everything that is OU. However, a couple of games a year for the kids to “express themselves” is ok with me. I would like to see the traditional jerseys as the norm, but alt jersey for a big game is cool to see also. My real concern is how we play, not what we wear. But I would truly feel a loss of something sacred if we lost the OU on the side of the helmet.

          • JB says:

I’d rather see the alternates used against Akron, Tulsa, and Iowa State. I’d rather see the traditional unis in the BIG games.

          • jimintexas says:

Team with tradition make few uniform modifications. Those without do. We have had recruits speak about they love our traditional uniforms.
If you win, you don’t need to change. If not, I guess you do

          • EasTex says:

I looked at the current top ten in recruiting standings at rivals, not one of the top ten schools uses gimmick uniforms.
We have this same discussion this time every year and as some one said last year “why mess with perfection?”
            Indeed.

          • JB says:

            Thank you for quoting me!

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Yes. And unless I dreamed it all last night, did OUr team not beat out THE “uniform change monster” of them all to land a certain highly desired LB from Cali?

          • Stephen says:

Not to be rude but where have you seen recruits rave about our traditional uniforms? Most of the recruits that post their picture in an Sooners jersey are wearing last year’s “Bring The Wood” jersey.

I don’t see how alternates that are worn once or twice a year suddenly take a school who’s tradition is winning more than anything else, and makes it a gimmicky school with 0 tradition. Every school you just started has, or is getting thsee exact same uniforms, so those weren’t facts. Uniforms don’t change the name of the school, the players on the team, the gameday traditions, or anything else. Just the uniform (for one or two games) which has been changed many times in the past.

I also don’t get how just because we have an alternate uniform, that becomes the main selling point to recruits. Its not. It’s just another small thing that you can offer when recruiting. Still have to do hone visits, still have to build relationships, still have to win on the field.

          • JB says:

Several players have said that over the years.

          • Stephen says:

And several players have asked for alternates including players from that 2008 team and Brennan Clay during OU media day. They’re never going make everyone happy if choose to use a new uniform or not but if the coaches think they could use them than why not?

          • jimintexas says:

            Stephen,

Not rude at all. A legitimate question. I don’t have problems with alternate uniforms, as long as the respect OUs tradition. Changes colors is, in my opinion, outside OU’s tradition.

I have only had fans talk about the importance of the glittery alternate uniforms. Not the recruits. I would have to go to the other board an run it down. But the only time I have heard a recruit bring up uniforms would be two years ago this December, a 2014 recruit’s mom comments that when he committed he loved OU’s traditional uniform. OU’s uniforms are recognized across the country. I believe we, like some teams, some of which are recruiting and playing very well, need to play to our strengths, which includes that OU is unique with unrivaled tradition.

Alternate uniforms, OK. Changing the brand, which includes drastic color changes is a slope that takes away OU uniqueness, in my opinion. (I am totally OK with those that don’t agree.)

I have read stories that Coach Stoops was saying that the players were excited about playing in the alternate uniform. That is different. That one instance where I heard the comment from a recruit’s mom is the only time where I have heard a recruit comment, one way or the other.

I have less problems with the uniform than I do people saying that it is a significant issue in recruiting. I don’t see the compelling evidence to support that position.

But, I am old and have been wrong many times before.

          • Stephen says:

You make excellent points and I don’t think we will ever see much of a design change to the every-week uniform. However, I don’t see a negative to wearing something a bit different one or two Saturdays a season. Grabs media attention and thus grabs recruits attention. As for the colors, there’s not much you can mix with crimson and cream other than another neutral color like black or grey. Personally I’d like to see all white or all crimson with matte helmets.

          • JB says:

            Amen, brother!

        • Jake says:

I don’t think we as fans can sit back and whine and belly ache about losing recruiting battles with the Baylors and TCU’s and not think that these new uniform schemes have nothing to do with it.
Kids now are going because they are winning AND these teams new way o thinking. They are not stuck in the past. I love OUs tradition and history. Some of these new kids know nothing of it. The want something cool and splashy and if OU wants to keep up they are going to need to include some options.
I’m not sure how this particular one looks as a full uni, need to see pants and a helmet, but I’d buy it as a shirt if I saw it. I like it.

          • Zack says:

I like it as a shirt. My favorite ou shirt I own, is a black bedlam shirt from 2010 or so.

        • ccmosaic says:

As a Sooner fan from birth I fully understand the tradition angle but, I am far more interested in winning and allowing that be our tradition than our uniforms. To me OU needs to do whatever it takes to secure the top talent around.
Honestly if we were in the SEC I would say no to new uniforms. But we are in the freaking big 12 and every school but Texas is doing this. And it just happens to be us as Texas who have sucked it up lately.
In the end our tradition is about winning and whatever it takes to keep that tradition going I am all for.

          • JB says:

While I think the high school kids like the idea of ever changing uniforms, I don’t think any player we’d want makes his decision based on a uniform. He might add that as a bonus in his decision, but I really don’t think the uni makes or breaks a commitment. If so, then Oregon, Miami, Texas, LSU would never get a recruit with their ugly uniforms.

        • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Oh, I absolutely agree. Ronda has never stopped improving. When you watch her earlier fights it’s night and day (she was pretty sloppy, actually!). Miesha doesn’t improve at the rate Ronda does, none of them do. But I think Tate’s survivability is what makes their fights so much more enjoyable than say, Rousey vs Correia (or a fight vs Eye, Holm, McMann, etc). I do want to see Zingano get another shot at her. Big fan of hers and I was pretty heartbroken that she lost the way she did.

Attitude, to me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, giftedness or skill. It will make or break a company… a church… a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past… we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude… I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it. And so it is with you… we are in charge of our attitudes.” Charles Swindoll

            Now I’m hungry. 🙂

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Eas – for once, I got to the table before the brainiac gang could make me hungry – not a very conventional breakfast, but soooo good.
I had Key Lime PIE for breakfast. Sat on my back porch and had it with cups of Kona coffee – reflecting on Sooner BOOMS.

          • EasTex says:

I love Kona almost as much as I love Jamaican Blue Mountain.
You are off to a good start.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

I tried JBM, but still prefer Kona (and it’s “cheaper”). Still, I’d spend the money anytime fore one good thing rather than a bucket of so-so.

          • EasTex says:

When I brew up some JaBlum I only use the coffee press. The caramel colored foam at the top is pure ecstasy.
I recently tried some Honduran coffee. The beans were HUGE, poor old grinder never worked so hard, but the flavor was amazing.

          • Mr. Jones says:

Well that pretty much settles my breakfast debate. PB pancakes with maple syrup and bacon it is.

          • Slim Sooner says:

Hey, I made pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs this morning for the kids and grands. I call it SHOP (Slim’s House of Pancakes). Must be the day for another BOOM!

          • Mike Reed says:

I read this and immediately went to the kitchen and made pancakes, sausage and bacon. It certainly will be a good day!! Boomer!!

      The great Spencer Tillman
      https://youtu.be/gJTtPsPRbt0

      • Mike Reed says:

Tillman had some serious jets on him!! That boy could fly!!

        • EasTex says:

Not only could he fly, he seemed to have thrust vectoring. 🙂

        • paganpink says:

Those last second pitches in a couple of plays were almost impossible for defenses to deal with when coupled with that kind of acceleration and speed. Exciting as heck. I think we’re going to be very exciting with our new offense this year as well. And we’ve got some of that special speed again on the field!

        • AdamsHall says:

He could definitely scoot. At the time, I don’t believe he was considered to be anywhere near our fastest running back, but he was very shifty and surprisingly powerful. My favorite play in the early ’80’s was his dive from the five yard line for the TD.

          • Sooner Ray says:

That was my favorite play of his also and I can tell you first hand that he could flat scoot.

      • Drew says:

This is what Ross should look like with an OC that knows how to use him.

        • EasTex says:

Ross is fast and powerful, but God Bless him, he is not elusive.

There is no one more likely to score than him, but only if the field opens up and he doesn’t have to make people miss.

          • soonersd says:

Agree with this 100%. Love watching Ross on kickoffs and a few sweeps a game but if you watch his footwork he is not elusive and is easily tripped up in the hole. Love the guy as a Sooner and hope he makes some improvements cause he’s a monster with track speed but unfortunately, I don’t believe what he lacks can be coached up much.

          • Slim Sooner says:

I’m sure hoping he has a great year in his roll and sets some records on returns for us.

          • Jed says:

I’ll be interested to see if he continues to develop. He showed a little shimmy toward the end of last year. I’m hoping…

          • Drew says:

Fair enough. But in those highlights above, a decent amount were Tillman just blowing past everyone. In those situations, I can see Ross doing just that.

          • EasTex says:

He just has so much power in his legs, he can’t overcome the inertia generated when he accelerates to make quick, subtle cuts. What I’m hoping to see is him taking some short swing passes and having some daylight where he can turn on the jets.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Nothing wrong with having another set of skills. If he can blow into the secondary, he is the most likely back to make it to the house. He just plays for a team with insane RB talent, so carries/catches might be rare when they have to be handed out.

          • EasTex says:

Coming out of the back field any LB trying to stay with him on a well thrown swing pass will be in chase mode.
He is a threat to score any time he has the ball, they just need to find the right plays for that to happen. Between the tackles is not his strength.

          • Cush Creekmont says:

            Yep.

          • Drew says:

Indeed. That, or some well designed counters through the middle. IIRC, he scored on one of those last year.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

I was very impressed with how Tillman broke off his fakes. He would throw a fake but then he wouldn’t wait for the defender to take the fake. By the time the defender reacted to the fake, Tillman was moving the other way. The defender never had a chance.

      • Boom says:

Those runners like Tillman ran downhill & got quick speed due to that crown and it didn’t help the defenders. Not only was Spencer a great RB & OKIE, he was a true leader on and off the field.
I smiled while watching cause I played on that field and the crown was unreal. When looking across the field, you could only see their heads. Due to passing, fields are flat or barely have a crown but not like the wishbone days. Good stuff.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

      Thanks, as always!

This game is one of the reasons that so many people in Alabama like the Oklahoma Sooners. One of my friends who is an extreme Alabama fan, absolutely loved it when the OU band started playing “Sweet Home Alabama” in the fourth quarter. We got them their revenge on Franchione.

    • Slim Sooner says:

Got a hunch this young man is going to be an asset to us in the future. Coach Riley, too!! It’s good to be a a Sooner.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

I hope he makes it. Love the attitude. If he does make it, his story might inspire others. The “tradition” shout-out might also resonate with current recruits.

      • hOUligan says:

‘Tradition’ seems to be a theme with Chanse and BY, too. When you visit OU and begin to see there are statues, photos and championship trophies that go back just a couple of years to many decades…not just a couple of mannequins modeling black and grey alternate uniforms and some participation ribbons.

        • Rick says:

Stoops often said that OU was a destination not a stepping stone.

        • JB says:

You shouldn’t pick on oSu’s “trophy room” even if it is like the one at Greg Focker’s parents’ house. To quote DeNiro…”I’ve never seen such a celebration of mediocrity…I didn’t know they made 9th place ribbons.”

      • JB says:

I’d rather have 1 of these guys than 10 DGBs. Love the attitude with no baggage like drug crimes or violence against women, he wants to be here above all other schools, he isn’t scared of hard work, and he wants to earn his degree. I’m rooting hard for Baxter to make it at OU. He’s quickly becoming 1 of my favorites in this class.

        • Boom says:

Should Shannon & Mixon be here? Why not bring up some of the guys Switzer had who had drug crimes or violence against women. I’m not a DGB fan but I can let go if he follows the rules moving forward. Also, Bob Stoops is the Head Coach last I remembered, not you.

You are making progress that you can compliment Baxter without throwing a shot at Mike Stoops too.

          • JB says:

I like to compare apples to apples. Mixon had one incident and from every account I have heard, he was NOT the aggressor and was battered first by the female. I don’t know Shannon’s full story but if the DA found insufficient evidence to charge, then it might mean some of those reports that the accuser was lying in the first place might be true. That said, if either were dismissed by Bob I wouldn’t have had a problem with it.

Since you asked about Switzer guys, Jerry Parks was one of my favorite Switzer era DBs but he proved to be a sack of crap and was rightly booted. Same for Bernard Hall, Glenn Bell & Nigel Clay. Throw Charles Thompson in there too. I thought the world of Barry Switzer as a coach and a recruiter. I’ve met Barry probably a half dozen to a dozen times and he’s a very nice guy. But he was not a great judge of character, at least not toward the end of his career. Otherwise, his tenure at OU would not have ended so unceremoniously.

As an OU alumnus, I was thoroughly embarrassed by the aforementioned turds and Barry is as responsible as anyone for bringing them here. Gary Gibbs may not have been a dynamic head coach and he didn’t win enough, but I appreciate his integrity and what he did to restore character to the OU football program.

Mike Stoops? I still think Bob fired the wrong coaches and unless Mike rediscovers his defensive philosophy during his first stint at OU, then he needs to go. But it’s a little late for that now since the season is about to begin. We’ll have to grin and bare it for another season and hope for the best.

As for your endless obsession with commenting on any post I make…I don’t know if I should be flattered or petition the court for a VPO. Perhaps you should consider seeking out some professional help.

            God bless you either way.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

So I’m on vacation in Destin, Florida and apparently we are staying in a Bama fans condo because their password is roll tide. It pained me to have to type that but the wifi didn’t work. So they had us use another router and the password on it was war eagle.

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

Hopefully Bryce Youngquists decision won’t affect Caleb Kelly’s. We could have the best linebacker recruits we’ve ever had.

      • Zack says:

I think Bryce is only going to help land kelly, not sure if they know each other well or not but landing top talent attracts other top talent.

    • Jeb Lamb says:

      What good news is that?

      • Borba22 says:

A well connected poster at Rivals heard of a commit being announced soon, and let Josh know, apparently Josh got in contact with said recruit and posted that we should be hearing good news today (though the more the day goes on with no news thinking it might be tomorrow).

        • Slim Sooner says:

I’ve been checking in at least every half hour today waiting for good news. Not much got done around here on the home front!

    • Jesse says:

      What’d you hear? Link?

    • Jordan Esco says:

Couldn’t really say. I know what our guys know and that’s there really isn’t anything news-wise going down, at least that we are aware of. But things can change quickly, so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Whatever happens know our guys most definitely have their ears to the ground.

K or Jordan was just sitting here talking to a few tOsu linemen and Akron got brought up since its OUr first game ( yeah they all give me crap). But I was just seeing if you’d do a write up on the Zips because they actually have like 6 transfers on their D who are from big programs. They actually believe Akron will have a solid defense, like one that could make us look bad for our first game. Just seeing your guy’s thoughts on it. I know they have 2 good de’s who came from tOsu.

    • Zack says:

Interesting. Definitely something I could see jy doing one of his write ups which have been missed.

      • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Yeah or jy. Forgot about the big guy. Not to mention look up Akrons coaching staff, its pretty solid. I think they’ll make it more interesting than us Sooner fans want.

        • Zack says:

I just want to see our defense give up 10 or less. I don’t know that the offense is going to show too much prior to Tennessee. But maybe Riley will just open the playbook from day one and not worry about who’s looking at film.

          • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

I agree. It’ll definitely be an early test for our young tackles. I know their 2 de’s are from tOsu and their good players.

          • RBear says:

You would think, that the more Riley opens it up, the more time DC’s have to spend coming up with ways to defend us, the better- dunno.

        • EasTex says:

I am a confessed pumper, I despise the negativity I see day in and day out. It doesn’t apply just to sports. I want my entire life to be up beat and forward going and thinking. Prov 23:7 says “As a man thinks, so is he”. I want to think positive, I want to be positive. I think that’s one of the reasons I have always chosen to be a Sooner fan. Looking at the caliber of young men we now have assembled, and some still on the way, looking at the changes in coaching, the attitudes, how diversity is overcome, thinking about the 2000 nc team and all of its similarities to this team, my pumper blood is getting excited. I’m even excited about the unknowns, the QB, the O Line, the D line, it all gets me fired up. I’m ready!!!! I’m nearly 60 years old, but this afternoon, I thought just for a moment I could strap up and play myself. I know the young men are ready. Time to make a run at #8. Boomer!!!!

In all seriousness, I’m a recovering pumper turned realist. But I wake up happy and I go to bed happy, and I sure can’t fault any man for being positive toward life. We need more of that in this world.
