– OU Staff In Houston: Looks like the Sooners are still working on hard on DT Ed Oliver and WR Tyrie Cleveland. Talking with some people in Houston, we’ve been told that Bob Stoops and a couple of assistant coaches made their way down to Houston to visit the talented duo at Westfield High School. You will recall that both Olive and Cleveland took official visits to Oklahoma earlier this season. – (Brandon)

More Coaching Visits: Here are some additional stops you can expect the coaches to be making for in-home visits.

Chanse Sylvie and Andraez Williams will receive a visit from Oklahoma on Wednesday.

Bryce Youngquist tells us he’s expecting Oklahoma to do an in-home visit on Thursday. We checked in with Caleb Kelly and he wasn’t sure yet when OU will visit, but we suspect it will happen on or around Thursday as well.

Levi Draper tells us that he is expecting Mike Stoops and Tim Kish to be at his state championship game this weekend.

Chris Daniels also told TFB the Sooners will be by this week to visit, but the date has not yet been set.

Rowdy Frederick was in Norman recently and it sounds like things are heating up between him and the Sooners. Frederick’s family tells us they’re expecting Bill Bedenbaugh to be in attendance for Frederick’s state title game.

– Tylan Wallace: 2017 wide receiver out of Fort Worth, TX was also seen yesterday by the OU staff. Wallace has visited OU and already holds a number of top offers. The plan right now is to make another trip to Norman in the future, and Wallace told TFB both OU and Oklahoma State stand out the most for him right now. – (Brandon)

– Jayvaughn Myers: Yesterday, star 2016 CB Jayvaughn Myers (Dade City, FL) decommitted from Florida. In talking with a few sources, we’ve been told that Oklahoma has actually been in touch with Myers lately. At this point we aren’t sure what, if anything, will come of that, but we have been told there is some interest Myers’ part.

Myers has offers from just about every school in the country and is being heavily recruited by the prominent in-state programs as well as schools like Alabama, Georgia and the like. As we mentioned yesterday, with OU so hot right now continue to expect the Sooners to be bold in their recruiting moves and take shots at some big fish. – (Brandon)

– UPDATE (3:16 pm): Sooners make the cut for elite 2017 point guard, Trae Young.

Idiots on CFB Daily! “Big 12 is a basketball conference.”; “They play arena football”. “OU should be #6.”

      • Pokerman says:

It was a montage but I think the most negative was a guy named Forrest Conoly, former FSU lineman.

        • DrewChubbs says:

I would think any FSU player would know better than to try to knock an OU team. We’ve pretty much had their number since…forever…

The way ESPN is losing customers, that’s all they need another fat, ugly and stupid talking head. I guess he now has his 5 minutes of fame. I doubt we’ll see much more of him, although he does make the new female personalities sound smart.

I just went and watched the replay on ESPN3, of that broadcast, it was repulsive. Such bias and SEC arrogance is idiotic.

Invite them to do a show from Norman. We can show them all our “basketball” trophies.

    • Pokerman says:

Also said that nobody in the Big 12 plays defense. I realize that seems to be the prevailing opinion outside the conference. I hope we get two shutouts in the playoffs.

      • Recondo says:

It’s easy to make those statements but notice they never show statistics to back it up. I just wish some of these shows would put one person on willing to call the rest out on their nonsense.

    • Malicong says:

I’ve been hearing the same thing on other sites, mostly from Ohio St fans who feel they should get in the CFP based on winning it all last year. One gentleman even tried to claim that OU has played no one and that a 6-6 B1G team was equal to OSU, TCU, and Baylor. People talk out of their backside out of anger and make stupid statements. Pat Forde was actually trying to make the case that a one loss non -champion Clemson shouldn’t drop below Oklahoma. His total case is based on the one-loss to Texas is worse than Clemson’s potential one loss to UNC and OU’s top 2 wins are equal to Clemson’s top 2 wins. He also makes the statement that conference championships shouldn’t matter. It is really annoying when people only want to talk about part of a season and not the whole picture. Critics want to point out the Texas loss, but totally disregard the remaing schedule, the amount of quality ROAD wins, and the dominace OU showed over very good teams.
The great part is none of those people matter. OU will show the haters and doubters how silly they sound.

      • Ed Cotter says:

Forde’s belief that a conf. champ. shouldn’t matter is laughable since that is one of the criteria that the CFP Committee will be looking at first. Just goes to show you that haters are gonna hate.

      • Gary Robbins says:

I agree. I know some OU fans were pretty upset and said some nasty things. Amazing how winning cures a lot of evil thoughts.

I delivered in Albany NY late last wednesday. No one posting loads thanksgiving through Sunday. I had to get the Trk/Trl inspected yesterday took most of the day. Really started looking for a good load home today. All the rates have gone down some, I don’t do cheap freight.

        • Golfluvr13 says:

I hate sending my trucks to the East coast. The freight rates coming back this way are always terrible. We can thank Schnieder for that. They have all the good freight up that way.

          • Rick says:

I don’t compete with Schnieder, but they do trend the rates. Everything I haul is pretty big (nearly all oversized stuff). My equipment is designed for heavy. I’m always looking for $3.50/mile for legal and lots more for oversized.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

Good luck! I’ve had guys haul a lot of alcohol from New Jersey westward when we run up that way. Usually it pays the best, and it still is not very good. I try to keep all of my stuff from Ohio west to Colorado/Wyoming. We sometimes run down to Georgia, but not very often.

          • Rick says:

I will prob DH to North Carolina, and haul wing parts back to Houston airport. The rates are pretty high, with fewer miles, but I would rather let the freight rot on the docks here before I leave with anything cheap. It only encourages them to rape the next driver or company that comes in.

    • Ed Cotter says:

Great read, thanks for sharing. Baker himself has said he loves to watch McCaffrey, and I think both he and Baker should win it over Henry, IMO.

      • Scott says:

        Both deserve it.

      • Recondo says:

Agreed. Taking nothing away from a very talented Henry but my finalists would be McCaffrey, Mayfield, and Keenan Reynolds. Probably in that order.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

It’s as simple as this… Pull Henry and plug in someone else behind the bama line and you’ve still got a one loss team.

        • Recondo says:

I want to disagree but I think Bama RBs in the NFL have proven it is the O-line that has led to their success and not the guy carrying the rock.

    • Kevin says:

Did anyone read the comments at the bottom of the article? Some guy named Derrick Henry was getting kinda trollish.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

Oliver and Cleveland are going to be tough with Herman staying, and Houston having a solid year. They’ve (or at least Oliver) been sold on staying home for some time now. OU really needed Houston to lose a few more, and/or Herman to leave.

If I could only have one of the two though, give me Cleveland. As good as Oliver is, his path to contributing is blocked with very talented players as well.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

I was really hoping Herman would end up at Georgia. Three million is a big number, but not if Strong leaves this year or next and Texas comes calling.

  • Gary Robbins says:

I said before that OU has 2-3 silent commits so we are close to filled up. At the most OU can get 6 more. I feel a couple more Booms in the next 7-10 days. The way our coaches are beating the bushes this week something is going to fall out. I know I am a 1/2 full type of glass person. As I tell my bartender/nurse when my glass gets below halfway bring me another.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

          Altus

        • Sooner Ray says:

Altus won last night so that is the match Saturday. Glad Stoops and Kish are showing up for Draper. I’ll try to get out there to the hill if I can break away.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Thanks. Altus is 12-1 losing 21-19 to Lawton Mac. Should be no problem if you go by comparable scores. Lol

          • Sooner Ray says:

          • Gary Robbins says:

It’s a very nice stadium. Skiatook lost in the finals there last year.

          • Sooner Ray says:

It must be because it seems they host a lot of post season games.

          • Dustin says:

Not just football, either. They host postseason matchups in many sports. They must have put some serious dough into their facilities.

          • Rick says:

I played in the State Championship game (Class C, big school) in 1974. The game was played at Guymon. We were excited about going to some bigger school stadium around the city somewhere, but the number 1 and 2 teams in the SC game were both from the panhandle, so the game was played at Guymon. I don’t know if they still use that kind of logic today as they did back then.

          • Dustin says:

The OSSAA used to have an agreement with OSU to hold a certain number of the title games at TBP. I just looked at this weekend’s slate and there are no games being played there this year. No idea what happened.

          • Gary Robbins says:

Reminds me of a story. OSU (yuch) had a basketball player nicknamed “Big Country”. He was a 7footer from Gans, Ok. who went on to play in the pros. During an interview they asked him what he did on Saturday nights. Being from a very small town he said they liked going in to the big city. That city was Sallisaw, Ok. it’s all about perception.

          • Daddy R says:

            Bryant Reeves, correct?

          • Gary Robbins says:

            Yeah that was his name.

          • Rick says:

I remember watching him play. I didn’t realize he was from a small school. There was 8 in my HS graduating class. Good story, I’ll remember that one.

  • Matt says:

How was the ACC perceived in the 90s? Were they the SEC of that decade? That was a little before my time.

    • Malicong says:

Not that I remember. It was pretty much FSU and sometimes Clemson or G Tech but that was about it. I remember them being much like they are now, one good team, one or two decent teams and a bunch of bottom feeders.

    • Rick says:

Miami and FSU were always the powers in the ACC. Miami more in the 70-80’s and FSU in my memory more in the 90’s but yeah. Those matchups with OU and Miami were epic. The NC was usually determined in Sept. in those years when Miami was home and away with OU.

      • Aunum says:

Miami was in the Big East if I recall correctly.

        • Rick says:

Sorry, I think you are right.

        • SoonerGoneEast says:

They didn’t come to the ACC until the early to mid-2000’s and they haven’t won a conference championship since they got there.

          • Rick says:

I had to look it up, Miami was Big East until the switch in 2004 to the ACC. I hadn’t remembered that, just the rivalries with FSU and FU. I do remember the games with OU.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

The Big East was as soft as they come. It contributed to a lot of their successes during that time. Well, that and the fact that close to half of the bowl games they’ve ever played in was in their own back yard.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Sounds like the coaches want every spot filled as soon as possible.

  • Dallas Johnson says:

Anyone know what our numbers are going to look like for this class? how many kids do we plan on taking?

    • MoJoOkie says:

Around 18-20 total I believe. I think Gary Robbins might be the expert on this, but he’s out at the Hill drinking rattlesnakes so take what he says with a salt block.

    • Gary Robbins says:

We have tossed the numers around. Looks like 18 at the bottom and 22 at the top. Sitting at 12 now with 2-3 silent commits.

      • Scott says:

Do you know if their holding a spot for Mique Juarez?

        • Gary Robbins says:

They would take him with open arms, no matter how they did it.
Kelly wants to wait till signing day or his All American game. C. Daniels will announce on his birthday later this month. I think those 2 are OU leans. I also think Velus Jones chooses OU.
Someone said with a Zeus and Velus how could OU lose.

        • Gary Robbins says:

Someone said with a Zeus and Velus how could OU lose.

    • BoomerDave says:

I, for one, think we will take as many great players that we can sign, whether that be 21 or 25, and let the numbers work themselves out. Unproductive players have a way of “quitting”, if you know what I mean. We need to take full advantage of being the “hot” team and strike while the iron is hot. I see no way we take less than 23-24.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Wasn’t it like Tennessee had like 30 commits and they asked Orlando Brown to grey or gray shirt. Their loss our big gain. We may have to take 24 as I feel that the recruits are starting to feel the OUDNA.

    • Glocal Sooner says:

I was wondering the same thing. Based on what I’m seeing (and I openly admit that my numbers are not official, just my guess from what I’m seeing), we currently have 80 committed for next year. This number includes the guys returning and the guys already committed. Zach Sanchez said last year that he’s not going to be back. No clue if he’s changed his mind or not. Of course as mentioned, there are always guys that leave the program each year. I just don’t see how you can account for that before it happens. Possibly the coaches already know of a guy or two but we sure don’t. So if we’re maxed at 85, I could see us taking 5 more which would put us at 18 total for the class. So talking out loud here but I agree with Gary below. 18 minimum but around 22 or so max. So maybe 5-8 more guys.

      • Gary Robbins says:

Fellows I have got to sign out. All this #1-4 teams and 5-8 more recruits is making me dizzy. My barmaid/nurse just come by and I couldn’t figure out whether to to order 1,4 or 8 drinks.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

I believe Sanchez will stay. He may not grade out well.

        • Glocal Sooner says:

We’ve obviously seen that Ohio St didn’t do as well this year after doing so well last year so nothing is guaranteed but man, it would be awesome to have Sanchez, J Thomas, Parker and A Thomas all back for next year plus Will Johnson.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Ohio State misses Coach Herman, but yeah, if we bring all these guys back, along with our coaches, it could get real scary for the rest of the BIG 12.

        • Pokerman says:

If he’s smart he’ll stay. With his up and down performance this year, I wouldn’t draft him if I were in a position to do so. He also needs to put on some muscle in the weight room.

    • Brien Brown says:

I have crunched the numbers a 100 times, beginning of the season we where told 18-19, we lost Ford and Hansen to transfer but added Baxter and a kicker so still leaves us at 18-19 and I think you have to plan on 1-2 not returning next year be it transfer or injury related or removed from the team, 20 that brings us to 20-21 which I said yesterday I believe 21 will be the number max will be 22 depending on the guys we have. I will say I expect the number to stop at 17-18 due to OU coaching staff giving those guys like Kelly a chance to announce on signing day or at their Under Armour or U.S. Army All-American games. I do think we have Kelly, Daniels, and Jones that are all three silent commits! But rest assure with the run we had they will make plays on top guys still out there, Cleveland, Oliver, Juraez, Burton, Myers, etc. I also think Bledsoe was a lean but, I think things have cooled with him some as we don’t hear about him as much or at all. My two cents

  • Himself says:

OU will jump to No. 2 tonight…I guarantee it…after all I am Himself

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Based off the fact OU is the only team with Conference Championship in hand they well may be #1 since that’s a determining factor. It wont last as I expect OU to be #4 in the Playoff, but Im fine with that since the Orange Bowl is the late game and I just love the history OU has in the Orange Bowl.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

If Clemson remains number one, then that puts our semi-final game at the Orange Bowl. No thanks. I’m hoping for the 2 or 3 slot.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Have to win 2 games either way. I just like the Orange Bowl, the Sooners former January home.

          • Rick says:

            Lots of orange bowl memories.

“We play well in the Orange Bowl, you can’t say that was then and this is now, THAT’S OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL”–Bob Stoops January 2001

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Clemson will travel well for that game. It’s probably a ten or twelve hour drive for them, tops. This will give them a real home field advantage, as many a Sooner (myself included) will be holding out in anticipation of going to Glendale.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

No I’m with you there, I don’t think Clemson fans are better than Vols fans in terms of noise level. I’d love to see them in Dallas too, but I’m good with Miami too.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Judging from past rankings of CFP cabal, it appears they favor teams recent performances and especially if they totally dominate. Check and check for OU. I foresee a #2 ranking for us.

        • crazyb says:

The Orange Bowl isn’t locked in to the 1-vs-4 matchup. If we are #1 then we would still play at the Cotton Bowl. So, we need Clemson or ourselves to be #1.

      • BoomerDave says:

I’m with you on this. Not going to be surprised with a 1 or 2 ranking.

      • Golfluvr13 says:

Honestly, I think the Sooner team can win no matter where it plays. They have a single goal, win this week.

      • metzker says:

Correct Dave OU 1 Tonight. Then id prefer 3 after this weekends games

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Why would OU fall to four?

        • Rick says:

Take your pick, championship game bias, SEC bias, we hate OU bias. All are in play.

        • Cush Creekmont says:

If Clemson is 1 and Alabama 2 (or even the reverse), the “committee” and their “rules” allow the most advantageous location for #1 and 2nd most advantageous for #2. For either IU or MSU, neither Dallas nor Miami is good, but Dallas is good for OU, so if #1 Clemson goes to Miami, Alabama goes to Dallas and 1-4 will be in Miami – count on OU NOT playing Clemson or Alabama in Dallas.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I have read nothing that suggests the Committee is allowed or would “re-seed” teams to avoid sending, for example, OU to Dallas as a 3 seed. I’m not saying they can’t or won’t, but I haven’t read anything that definitively suggests they have that option.

Somebody should ask somebody who might know, on Twitter, perhaps.

          • Sarosh Nizami says:

            From the Orange Bowl website:

“How does the CFP select which game goes to which site?
The Selection Committee will place the games using geography as a factor and giving a proximity preference to the No. 1 seed first, and then if possible the No. 2. For example if a southern, northeastern or midwestern team is No. 1 and a southwestern team No. 4 they would most likely come to the Capital One Orange Bowl, because sending that game to the Cotton Bowl would give an advantage to the lower seed.Conversely, if a southwestern team is No. 1 and southern, northeastern or midwestern No. 4, that game would most likely be in the Cotton Bowl.”

I think the important piece from here is the preference is for the #1 seed, and then only ‘if possible’ for #2. So as long as OU isn’t #4, we should be going to Cotton Bowl, since either Clemson or Bama at #1 would be going to Orange Bowl (this is assuming they both win next week) My only concern at this point is the Big 10 Champ jumping us to #3.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Agreed. I didn’t think we had to worry about a Big 10 team, and me might still not if it’s Iowa, but there didn’t seem to be much interest in moving us up this week, so maybe we do get dropped. I’d be pretty pissed if that happened. I actually think OU/Bama should be fighting for the 1 seed based on what I’ve seen.

      • soonerthunder says:

Not me. I think OU will be anywhere from #1-3, not #4 in the final poll. It depends what happens next week w/Clem-NC, etc. I don’t see Mich St ( who I think will win) jumping clem, bama or OU if bama and clem win.

        • SoonerSpock says:

Personally I think both Mich St and Iowa jump OU in the final rankings. The winner will gain the advantage that OU presently has of being a conference champion. Plus Iowa will be 13-0 vs OU 11-1. Clemson is not ahead of Alabama because most think they are a better team but because they do not have a loss on their record. Ditto Iowa over OU.

Mich St would also get the advantage of being a conference winner and their last two of their last three wins were over teams in the top 4 when they played them and are still in the top 6. Those are better wins than OU has although OU has one more good win. Also Mich St lost to Nebraska on the last play and a bad call by the refs. Much better loss than our Texas loss.

One needs to note the process does not attempt to rank the teams based on which teams they consider to be the best but on which teams record best earns the ranking. The eye test has minimal impact on the rankings.

Mich St and Iowa both can’t jump OU in the final rankings–they play each other. How can Iowa be 13-0 and Mich St be a conference winner? Mich St’s lost to NU on last play/bad call doesn’t mean anything. They also never led either Mich or OSU in regulation. OU’s in, don’t worry. UT loss won’t hurt OU.

      • Sarosh Nizami says:

Did they finalize the Orange Bowl as the late game, and if so, where was it reported? Last I saw of the CFP site, it still had both the Cotton and Orange as 4 or 8 PM EST without final times yet. FWIW, I’m hoping for Cotton because although it’s been sold out, I was at least able to get standing room tickets for that earlier in the season, whereas for Orange they’ve been completely sold out for a while and I had put my name on the waitlist. That and the fact that I would like to have a big bowl game with some element of home field advantage (still irked by vs LSU in the Sugar Bowl and vs Florida in the Orange Bowl for the NC’s)

        • Sarosh Nizami says:

Actually here’s what I found from the Orange Bowl press release:

What time will the game start on New Year’s Eve?
Our game will start at either 4 or 8 p.m., as assigned by the Selection Committee and ESPN. Once the Selection Committee determines matchups on December 6, they will determine the starting time and location for each Semifinal game.
The announcement of matchups, location and time of game will be made at approximately 12:45 p.m. on ESPN

Guess we have to wait until 12/6 to see not only which bowl, but their times =/ This affects me because the wifey is a UH alum, and if the Cougs go to the Fiesta, it’s perfect, because that’s on Jan 1st, but if they go to the Peach (this is all assuming a win over Temple next week, which is no sure thing), it’s the morning of New Year’s Eve, and we’d have to figure out based on the OU bowl location & time if making it to both of our games is plausible, or if we have to go our separate ways for bowl season haha.

    • Recondo says:

I hope you’re right just so we can hear Bama fans cry about it. One thing about the CFP, #2 & #3 are irrelevant since they play each other.

      • Dustin says:

You get to choose your jersey color.

      • BoomerDave says:

The difference in 2 and 3 could also determine game site as well.

        • Recondo says:

Not really. #1 really determines both games by default since the semi-final games rotate between the big bowl games.

          • BoomerDave says:

Not according to the rules. The committee is charged with placing the 1 and 2 seeds in the bowl that best fits them geographically. They don’t just place the 1 seed in the location closest for them. For instance, if Alabama ends up 1 and OU 2, geographically, Alabama is closer to Dallas than they are to Miami. In that case, they will NOT send No 1 Alabama to Dallas and OU to Miami, but will work to provide the best home field advantage for both 1 and 2. In that scenario, Alabama will go to Miami and OU to Dallas.

          • Recondo says:

It doesn’t matter because #1 will automatically decide where #2 goes. 2 & 3 will be selected by default. Bama is a better fit in Miami because of the geographic fanbase of the SEC, not due to mileage.

          • SoonerSpock says:

Not necessarily. Should Clemson win and finish 4th or UNC finish 4th after winning the ACC they would not send Bama to Miami as that would be seen as an advantage for the #4 team. Otherwise you are probably correct. Likewise if Clemson were to finish # 2 and OU # 3 they would probably not send Clemson to Dallas as that would be considered an advantage for OU.

    • BoomerDave says:

Don’t mind your comment about the Sooners, but keep your political crap off of here please.

I have always loved tractors. From the scaled down toy tractors, to the pedal ones. Heck, I still have an antique farmall, I’m attempting to restore. It still runs well, (just looks pretty bad).

          • Golfluvr13 says:

My son-in-law’s parents have an old farmall sitting in their backyard that does not run. Every time she goes over there she sprints to it, climbs up on it, and spends hours sitting there like she is farming. Me being a farm boy (I grew up on an 8000 acre farm) loves that. I brought her out to our farm last year to ride the tractor with my Dad and she loved it.

  • I hope we don’t lose sight of the fact that it is very important when recruiting these top guys that they WANT to be a SOONER, not just a college football player. We have busted on some good 4 and 5 star guys that to me just didn’t care if they were a Sooner or not.

    • Brien Brown says:

Well in the case of the guys already committed and the few that we are still recruiting I think it’s clear they where high on the Sooners or still high on the Sooners! IMO of course.

      • paganpink says:

No, I think you’re right Brien. And just as we have been much more active in pursuing in-state guys we seem to have a lot more of the Sooner DNA sort of folks on the field and coming in as well.

        • Brien Brown says:

Well Stoops had said even a few years back, specifically when we lost out on I think it was Turner that went to TT and Demarco Cobb that went to Texas two big time kids that left he said then they needed to do a better job with the local and state talent as he felt that Oklahoma had just as much talent as most states, he did stop short of saying Cali, Louisiana, Florida, or Texas talent but I think he is right mean it don’t seem that way but, if you took the top 30 to 40 kids from Oklahoma a year and put them in the right program with a chance to develop and all we would be talking about a great recruiting state!

          • Brad Warren says:

            Cobb was a bust

          • Brien Brown says:

I would say he was average not a bust not great cause he did start at LB for the Longhorns, and he had some good plays for them in his career, he probably wouldn’t of been a bust at OU, IMO!

          • paganpink says:

I agree and they are true Okies in every sense. But even the folks from other states they have been getting are more the tough minded and teamwork oriented guys that we like to think of as being “true” Sooners. The sort of guys that appreciate the incredible legacy we have here, and aren’t just trying to punch a ticket to the NFL. Our guys gather on NFL teams when they meet just like family. Most of the guys missing the essential character we cherish don’t like to be Team players- with a capitol T- since they care about themselves and aren’t playing for the team we can never be as good as we had the potential to be because they won’t help others unless it makes them look good! That’s true even if they are great players. I think we are doing it the right way and the men that can do it that way have OU DNA- and deserve all the accolades that come with that!

          • hOUligan says:

I think that is so important “the sort of guys that appreciate the OU legacy and aren’t just trying to punch a ticket to the nfl”. Whether it’s an ‘Okie’ like Overton, who was near tears when he thought his dream of being a Sooner was derailed, or Chanse Sylvie, who jumped on board early and has been very vocal. Sooners at heart. Team 1st. OUDNA.

          • Brien Brown says:

I agree since Stoops has been at OU it has been more of a family deal, mean look at the fact he has been arms open to legends and former players and coaches to come back and be there for the team. He embodies what the program has turned into, a tough, respected, hard nosed program. Yes we will have down years and some bad but, we have had way more good than bad. The #OUDNA bit is a great thing and I agree kids like Sylvie who has been all in and has been recruiting others is a prime example. I know as tight knit as Stoops is it had to kill him inside to make the changes he did but, he did so for the betterment of the entire team and the family as a whole. I’ve always said give me 2-3 star kids that want to play for OU vs 4-5 star kids that just want to play, the kids that want to be somewhere of do something special can overcome talent, cause they have more heart and desire. Again this relate back to Stoops and even his brother you can see the fire in their eyes and the staff he has now and in years past work hard but never forget the family first approach and when they do or a player does they are gone!

Naaa, they’re not going to put OU ahead of an undefeated Clemson. We could bounce Bama a notch though.

      • rainydaze114 says:

It doesn’t really matter if OU is 2 or 3… they get the same game. OU is currently the only conference champ and thus has fulfilled all the most important criteria for the #1 spot.

    • Cush Creekmont says:

They MIGHT do some such thing just to emphasize their “conference championship” criteria. They could then totally re-do the list next week and move OU down to 4 (where they want them if Alabama and Clemson are 1 & 2). By doing so, they “prove” how serious they are about their criteria and can then turn around and drop OU because the other teams have now achieved conference championships. Keeping OU at 3 and Iowa at 4 will make it harder to change to Iowa/MSU 3 and OU 4 without it looking like a move to keep OU out of Dallas.

    • Zack says:

I kinda think they will just to stir the pot this week. Technically ou is the only team that has earned a playoff spot so why wouldn’t they be number one? Every team in the conversation still has an opportunity to lose.

        • DCinAZ says:

I think a lot of people nationally had a lot invested emotionally in the narratives that OU was in decline and Bob’s career was petering out. Now that we’re back, they’re dropping their masks and revealing their open sourness with OU being back on the scene.

          • Zack says:

I think Bob is close to breaking off another big run if he can close the deal this year. We’ve been bringing in some talented guys and I think they refocused on what “ou guys” are and now he’s getting to sprinkle in the top talented guys we’ve been missing.

If we win it all this year, is there much reason for us not to be the favorite next year with most of the tough games at home?

          • DCinAZ says:

I’ve thought all season that this team isn’t a title team and next year was their best chance to make that run. Still think that. If they run it this year, next year’s team will just be brutally awesome.

          • SoonerSpock says:

If we win it this year we will find it more difficult next year with everyone focused on beating you. Remember Ohio State returned 16 starters and all three QB’s and last Saturday was the first game they played this year that was close to the level they played the last half of 2014. Very difficult to have the focus in year two after winning it all.

          • paganpink says:

Of course. They are simply envious of our success and don’t want to see it return to top levels yet again. On the radio with Traber and Mike Stoops,Traber started into some silly half serious rant to rationalize how poorly Mike was treated on a personal level after last years losses by many people by saying something like ” you guys created this monster! With Wilkinson and Switzer and your brother” And Mike just said “that’s right. For more then a century” because what Traber is referring to is PLAYING LIKE A CHAMPION, WHETHER HE WANTS TO ADMIT IT OR NOT. To act like it’s hype and not due to more then a century of national championships, dozens of conference championships, scores of bowls played and won, and play at the very highest level of college football for decades at a time that has brought such attention to the team, is ridiculously stupid!

    • Zack says:

I don’t think so. There’s nothing that would suggest he is durable enough for that role. But if Thomas can beat him out for the backup it would be something worth thinking about.

      • Boom says:

Durable? Zack you always say this but it makes no sense. AD nor White was “durable” either so I think it’s an unfair tag you always like to throw on him. Everyone who plays gets hurt. Bradford another one, I could go on but you get the point.

        • Zack says:

It’s a fair point you make but shouldn’t we have better receivers on campus? I just don’t know that knight would be an upgrade as a senior never playing that position.
But I also said its worth considering if he gets beat out as the backup QB.
And if it were me I would have found a way 2 years ago to have Blake, tk and kt on the field at the same time and in the backfield.

        • SoonerSpock says:

AD had some injury issues but 8 years in the NFL with 2,300 carries and 11,00+ yards prove he is durable and what happened at OU is pure happenstance. Trevor has shown no durability to date.

          • Zack says:

And his biggest time missed is due to suspension. I just don’t think he understood how to protect himself back at ou. One of his injuries was from dining into the end zone on a play that probably meant very little.

And knight may be an exceptional wr if given the chance but the question is aimed with the idea of him being a Wes welker type guy and those guys get beat up.

          • Boom says:

Happenstance for Trevor. I’m talkin college.
