Open Post | Weekend, May 27th – 29th (UPDATE Sat., 7:22 am)

Baylor Signees: We are still digging on this matter considering there are any number of moving parts, but a number of 2016 Baylor signees are interested in exploring options with others programs (including Oklahoma) if an NLI release were to be requested and granted.

I (K) spoke with a parent today of a player, recruited by Texas but signed with Baylor, and was told that they are unsure about what to do right now. They are considering filing for a release from the NLI and, as such, Texas would obviously be an option they want to explore.

Because of the sensitivity of the matter, we feel it would be in poor taste to disclose names of those considering a release. But it’s no secret OU and Baylor are often in on the same recruits, so it would probably be safe to assume some of the names could be of those the Sooners have previously recruited.

TFB has been told that Oklahoma is in a position to take a Baylor signee (or two) should they seek, and be granted, a release from their NLI. – (Brandon & Super K)

– UPDATE (Fri., 3:05 pm): The Southmoore (OK) football program has become a frequent stopping point for college coaches not only from just the in-state programs, but from schools all around the country. The Sabercats have been loaded with talent for several years now, and there 2017 & 2018 classes are carrying right along in that tradition. Most notably with 2018 OU commit Brey Walker, who could very well be the top offensive lineman in the country for his class, to one of the more recent OU offer, and Oklahoma legacy, QB Casey Thompson.

However those two certainly are not alone when you consider 2017 prospects like long, rangy athletes in Quindon Lewis and Gervarrius Owens. Both have double-digit offers and with strong senior seasons could easily garner even more attention from any number of P5 programs. And Southmoore adds to their talented roster with 6’2″ 292-pound Edmond Santa Fe transfer, DL Jordan Dawson.

There is also another Thompson coming up in the ranks, Cade, who became a solid contributor this past season at TE and H-back for Southmoore, even scoring a touchdown against Santa Fe in the first round of the playoffs last year. At 6’3″ 215-pounds, Thompson definitely looks the part. And although he has been nursing a fracture in foot this spring, Casey Thompson tells TFB his younger brother should be out of the boot and rehabbing within the next couple of weeks.

And we’re happy to share some TFB video below from a recent Southmoore practice featuring a number of the guys discussed above. – (Brandon)

UPDATE (4:08 pm): I’ve spoken to a couple sources and have been told that Parrish Cobb is likely to seek a release from his NLI to Baylor. One source mentioned the schools he is considering (if the release is granted) are Texas, TCU and Georgia. A source close to Oklahoma noted that the Sooners are in play as well. – (Super K)

UPDATE (10:50 pm): As you all know, Isaiah Thomas is expected to announce his decision tomorrow. I have been able to catch up with a few sources and I know most of you are anxious to see where he ends up.

I can tell you I really like where OU stands here. Be sure to keep your eye out for this one tomorrow! – (Brandon)

Am I forest? Sure is quiet in here.

  • Scott says:

KD Cannon will be transferring. Would expect OU to be the frontrunner for him.

    • MoJoOkie says:

He’s a sophomore (I think). The above said 2016 recruits released from their NLI. It’ll take the NCAA a while to sift through all this for eligibility if the players are released, so could be a while. Sounded from his tweet like he might transfer either way. If so, I don’t know where OU would stand. We could use some experience at WR though, so who knows.

    • Bob Edwards says:

He’s listed as a True Jr in 2016. Since transfers inside the conference lose two years he would have to sit out one year to have one year of eligibility left. So unless the NCAA steps in and suspends the transfer rules in this case he would be better off going out of conference.

    • Ura Hogg says:

On ESPN he’s quoted as saying that he is staying at Baylor. Apparently he doesn’t mind the stench enough to leave.

  • Lincoln Hawk says:

Smells of Parrish Cobb to Texas?????

    • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I would guess Patrick Hudson since his decision pretty much came down to NSD. I would also prefer it to be him. We need more quality depth on the OL.

      • Lincoln Hawk says:

Makes sense, I just know that Super K used to talk to Cobbs’ parents a lot so that’s why I thought of him.

        • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Well another site is reporting that Texas is likely to land Cobb and Hudson, and that TCU is the front runner for Duvernay.

          • Slim Sooner says:

            Texsa site? LOL.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Yes, it is. I believe they’re basing it off of where players were looking before they signed to Baylor. It makes sense.

          • Slim Sooner says:

Just pokin’ ya. Texsa is always sure they’re gonna get errbody!

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Appreciate it but sometimes I lose my cool, Bob seems to be pretty darn steady. He’s got to be with all those awesome kiddos!

          • Boom says:

That’s funny. Interesting, through age, I have more knowledge or advice but it seems they want less & less of it as time goes by.

          • Bob Edwards says:

That was my experience. Now some of them have their own families and I am a lot smarter now than they remember from when they were teenagers.

          • Boom says:

I don’t do well when I have 3 or 4 asking me questions at the same time. I stare and they don’t like it and then tell’em all to stop which only makes it worse.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Wait I thought I was the good looking one.

          • Bob Edwards says:

The good news is that now you guys can say “at least we aren’t Baylor.”

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

            POST OF THE DAY!

          • Slim Sooner says:

            Unofficially!!

          • Bob Edwards says:

It makes some sense, but if you have watched this kind of thing for awhile the chances are pretty low that they get picked up by their #2 school. Scholarship limits, positions full, bridges burned, etc all add up to make it unlikely. It happens but not as much as you would think.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Seems a bit premature since we don’t even know if they will be released from the NLI or not. I’ll just stay here and get my info.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

That’s cool, just passing along info. IMO, I can’t see Baylor not granting them a release from their LOIs. I could be wrong though.

          • Lincoln Hawk says:

Sorry if that came across wrong, I appreciate the information. I agree, especially if part of Briles staff stays on, I don’t see them letting them go.

          • metzker says:

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Not even if there’s a fire?

          • Bob Edwards says:

You are talking about a group of people who overlooked multiple rapes for the sake of their football program. What makes you think they will do the right thing now?

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Because the eyes of the entire sports world are watching them. They really have no choice but to do the “right” thing.

          • Bob Edwards says:

So far Baylor seems intent on doing the least possible they can to get by. The president gets moved to chancellor and is still teaching in the LAW SCHOOL. The AD gets suspended but doesn’t lose his job. The only person that I have seen actually lose their job is Briles. Heck his son is still a coach there as are all the other assistants some of whom had to have know about this. They may get enough pressure to cause them to do it, but I don’t think they are anywhere near there yet.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I have to believe Briles is the beginning, not the end. There’s no way the staff makes it through unscathed.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I’m just looking at what they have done so far. They don’t seem intent on cleaning house. At a minimum the AD should already be gone as well as any assistant coach that had knowledge. They are dealing with stage IV cancer by putting makeup on the tumor to cover it up.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

You can’t get me to disagree there. I am puzzled at their reaction so far.

          • Bob Edwards says:

            Hubris.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I agree Bob. You mean to tell me the coaches on staff didn’t know about these issues? Give me a freaking break.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I can believe not every one of them knew. But I can’t believe none of them knew. That would have to mean that players in trouble just skipped the position coach and coordinator and went straight to the head coach. You don’t run a successful operation if the head guy has to deal with every problem directly.

          • Boom says:

Said it on another post. Switzer said, if a player did something, the whole staff had full knowledge. The staff is a team so these things have to be discussed.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Exactly. It’s called delegating the responsibilities. In my tears of high school football I was certainly closer to my position coach over the head coach. I had personal issues one year and like I said, being closer to my position coach I spoke with him first and was then directed to the athletic director/head football coach and the problem was solved.

          • SoonerSpock says:

It appears to me that the Baylor strategy regarding the football team is to first maximize their success this year. Hence all of the multiple coaches noted in the Pepper Hamilton report that some coaches took improper steps in response to disclosures of sexual assault and dating violence remain on the coaching staff. When they should have been terminated concurrent with Briles termination.

To me that says replacing the coaching staff at this late date would have an extreme negative impact on the success of the 2016 football team. Keeping the current staff maximizes their opportunity for success.

Therefore winning football games is more important than cleaning house and the new head coach can rid Baylor of the present staff after the season. Shameful!!!

I’m thinking its possible. If I were an unbiased WR looking for a school in the Big12, OU would be it. You have an early heisman candidate at QB, and no clear WR1. It seems ripe for the taking if I’m Duvernay.

One more time….For Memorial Day weekend….

“I feel how weak and fruitless must be any word of mine which should attempt to beguile you from the grief of a loss so overwhelming. But I cannot refrain from tendering you the consolation that may be found in the thanks of the Republic they died to save. I pray that our Heavenly Father may assuage the anguish of your bereavement, and leave you only the cherished memory of the loved and lost, and the solemn pride that must be yours to have laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.” — Abraham Lincoln (excerpt from a letter)

As you spend time with friends and families this Memorial Day weekend, please take a few moments to reflect on those who cannot. All gave some, some gave all…..

With this Ole Miss situation brewing, do y’all see Freeze being fired? If so, were there any of their recruits y’all were close to getting?

    • Lincoln Hawk says:

That type of stuff usually gets a slap on the wrist in the SEC, so he will probably get a raise. We typically fight with them for a few guys every year, although I don’t have any names that come to mind right now.

      • Boom says:

Since they have beat bama 2 or 3 years in a row, they may get in trouble. Bama will make sure of it along with the SEC. SEC headquarters is located none other than Tuscaloosa and if they can rig their schedule, they can handle Old Miss.

Your grammar leaves me breathless. My daughter is in the 1st grade and can put together complete sentences. One can actually make sense out of her writing.

Margaret, you can’t fool those of us who have degrees from OU. You and your friend may make $98 dollars an hour, but my guess is that you don’t earn it with your brain. From reading your writing my guess is that you use some other part of your anatomy rather than your brain to earn your $98/hour.

Now, this is just me, but I can’t imagine any intelligent person, especially one that follows the OU football program would ever waste their time clicking on your above link.

Personally, I think you need to go back to some elementary school to hone your English writing skills. Like Texas, your writing skills really suck, but now that is just my opinion.

I am hearing the talk about KD Cannon transferring and I am not saying I wouldn’t take it but my first choice from Baylor at WR would be Devin Duvernay 5’11” 195lb runs a 4.38 40 yard dash. He has 4 years of eligibility left and is not forced to sit year like a transfer would be. If if he didn’t have to sit a year Cannon would be fine but I would just prefer to get them younger and this kid can be dynamic as well.

    • Scott says:

Duvernay wants to play with his brother. I don’t think OU offered his brother.

    • ALar03 says:

like Les Miles? He’s been at LSu a long time and was almost out the door. If OU followed up the 2014 8-5 season with 7-6 in 2015, most of us would be calling for Stoops’ head. Bottom line, Marvin nailed it.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Since when was there anything stable about Les Miles between the ears? Like eating grass? lol
The only thing he’s been consistently good at is getting a fair amount of the outstanding football talent in his back yard to go to LSU.
If he doesn’t win the SEC and make the CFP, he’s quite possibly out of a job after this season.

Everybody on here wanted him before he went to bailer.

        • Lane Gilstrap says:

Well we thought he had that OUDNA. He obviously didn’t.

        • Jdizzle says:

That was before he bought the heroin;laced snake oil Briles was selling to kids. Once he bought that, he was proven to not be smart enough to have OUDNA.

        • JB says:

I did not. I wanted Jordan Parker plus a couple of other Cali CBs before Cobb.

  • BleedCrimson says:

Bottom of the 5th, 1 away. We plate another. 16-4 OU

  • Stephen says:

After the Boulware/Cobb thing I don’t know how big our chances are. Personally, I like the DB’s in 17′ but Cobb is pretty dynamic in the return game. If I had to choose, I’d take Cannon and Bowen but if Cobb wouldn’t be a bad pickup.

  • BleedCrimson says:

At the end of the 5th, OU extends their lead 17-4 over TT.

  • BleedCrimson says:

At the end of 6, OU up 17-4. Anyone know the run rule for baseball?

  • BleedCrimson says:

  • BleedCrimson says:

That is the game. OU baseball run rules TT. 17-4.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Georgia just beat Florida to make it to OKC.

      • BleedCrimson says:

That is huge!!! Fla was fav.

        • JB says:

This is really starting to look like a magical season for OU softball. Patty Gasso is so consistent every year. Phenomenal coach, great recruiter, great person. We are truly blessed to have her.

    • JB says:

I was following that game and i am happy for the win. That said, it is likely the last win of the season.

I doubt Joe C will make the change this year and will probably give Hughes a 4th season of baseball mediocrity. As much as I like Hughes as a person, it has turned out exactly as I predicted it would when he was hired. He was never a good fit. He’s turned a 40+ win per year team that regularly played in the postseason into a subpar underachieving mess. He’s the guy you hire to build up crappy programs but has no experience coaching championship-caliber teams.

The cupboard wasn’t bare when he arrived, but he’s gotten less from more than any baseball coach I can remember at OU. Worst of all, the cupboard is emptying under Hughes as he is not recruiting as well as his predecessors. I would like to see a change because I don’t want another crap season of OU baseball. 3 lousy seasons in a row is plenty. Give him a nice severance, thank him sincerely for his time, and start a search for a top-flight baseball coach. We need to find the next Patty Gasso of baseball.

  • Tipman says:

Sorry if I missed it but has anyone confirmed if the current players will get a full release and not have to sit out? TIA

    • Lane Gilstrap says:

No, nobody knows if they will release them yet?

    • JB says:

I am not certain, but I think that requires an appeal to the NCAA. I’m just thinking back on Chris Redman transferring to OU from Illinois after they fired the oc who recruited him there right after signing day. He appealed to the NCAA and won.

Of course, current commitments are fair game.

  • Scott says:

ILB from Georgia Tyler Taylor is apparently on a Unofficial visit to OU.

    • John Garner says:

Wish — hope — Youngquist can make it in. (Did I spell that right?) He’s got to be special if the coaches are willing to wait.

  • j l says:

kameron martin is now asking for NLI release and will not enroll.

The beartanic is sinking fast. 2016 class, better grab a lifeboat.

The “funny” part of the statement Ray, is, how the heck did they ever let it get that far, and why did they ever think no one would notice? They had to be delusional. I really wondering if Briles may have some real personal mental issues. …..Maybe a minute or two too soon. ;-))))

        • Sooner Ray says:

Winning is a POWERFUL drug, not to mention the money that follows.

          • Rick says:

Bob is not perfect, he’s obviously not a fuzzy lovable character, but I think he’s probably taught all of us that integrity really does matter, and makes a difference.

          • Sooner Ray says:

I love his fuzzylessness. Is that a word? 🙂

          • Rick says:

Dustin doesn’t seem to be here right now, so we can make up any wurdz wee want tu. We’ll have to add it to the unofficial TFB glossary of coaching descriptors.

          • Rick says:

            You working tomorrow?

          • Sooner Ray says:

The unpaid kind, yes. 🙂 Off the day job till Tuesday.

          • Rick says:

I delivered a very large panel in Nashville today. I didn’t get anything out booked, so I’ll probably do a little unpaid work on the trailer. I was wanting to get home today and work on my shop. I’m trying to get it set up for woodworking and some gun smithing, reloading, man cave stuff. Everyone just wants me to stay out on the road though.

          • Sooner Ray says:

Shop sounds like an awesome project. Catch 22, what makes us happy costs money, money comes from being away from home.

          • Rick says:

That’s right! I have quite a bit of property, it’s all paid for, and my equipment is all paid for, but a little cash poor after paying everything off. So as the song says, off to work I go. The good thing about doing what I do, doing heavy and large haul trucking, I can generate a large amount of revenue in a short time, when the economy is moving.

          • Jeff says:

            Nashvegas

          • JB says:

I’ve only ever disagreed with one of Bob’s decisions–and I still think allowing DGB on the team was a giant mistake–but he has generally shown that he won’t try to win at any cost. Standards and ethics matter, even if that is not the SEC way.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

DGB never played a down of football for OU though.

          • JB says:

Makes no difference. He should NEVER have been rewarded with an OU scholarship in the first place. Bringing him on board sent out the wrong (and Art Brilesesque) message that there is a point where talent on the field is more important than the right of women on campus to be protected from violence or the right of all students to not be exposed to someone who traffics life-ruining illegal narcotics.

I saw the guy. He was a physical freak and would’ve been a hell of an offensive weapon. But there was never a point where I said to myself that I wanted him on the field. This goes back to the original point where winning the right way is the most important thing. Bob didn’t bring him in so he could sit on the sidelines. Bob brought him in to play, it just didn’t work out that way.

          • brainpimp says:

OK so are you now going to start firing employees< what about regular students? Do we have to develop a shadow country for anyone accused of violence?

            Silly overreaction.

          • JB says:

Huh? Your post makes no sense. Did you forget to wear your tin foil hat today, Alex Jones?

          • brainpimp says:

            No I didn’t, Jerry Falwell.

          • JB says:

So you are wearing your tin foil hat then? Your family must be so proud.

Really, though….what point were you trying to make? I have no idea what you were about with firing employees and students and shadow worlds. We were having a conversation about winning the right way. I have no idea what you were talking about, but I couldn’t decipher anything you said that was relevant to what we were talking about.

          • brainpimp says:

My very direct point was to counter your non point that DGB should not have been allowed to come to OU or “be rewarded”. If you simply extend your logic, people accused/convicted of similar things should lose their jobs. Why “reward” them with a job? You certainly couldn’t hire them. Your logic involves the “rights” of women that never come into contact with an individual you appear to think should be removed from society. Where do these rights stop? Where do these people live? You are exhibiting a scary group/tribal mentality that flies in the face of individual liberty.

He was interviewed, talked to by people much more informed than you and made clear what was expected. he lived up to everything he was asked to do. Your personal Feelings (and that is what this boils down to) our holier than thou and frankly vindictive.

          • JB says:

Yes, all employers are anxious to hire people who have been arrested with a large quantity of marijuana and cocaine, after previously getting caught with marijuana. They also love to hire people who throw women down the steps inside their own apartments where they are not welcome (also a crime known as burglary). Got news for you, bud… that’s the way this world works. If you have a history like DGB, it’s going to be hard for you to gain employment.

If Art Briles had been more diligent in checking into Sam Ukawachu’s (sp?) background he might still be coaching at Baylor because Sam was the beginning of the pattern of cover ups in the BU program.

DGB had way too much baggage, the kind of baggage that would keep people like us from getting the chances he got because he was 6’6″, fast and could catch a ball. Let’s not be hypocritical and act like he was some innocent “kid” who didn’t get special treatment. If he were 5’3″ and slow with stone hands, his backside would have been in jail or prison. He wasn’t dismissed from Mizzou because he was innocent. He was dismissed because Pinkel couldn’t keep sweeping his repeated transgressions under the rug.

          • JB says:

As for me being “holier than thou” which is your claim and not mine, I’ve gone 43 years without trafficking narcotics or committing violence against women. If that makes me holy, then praise the Lord. I’ve always thought that simply meant I had respect for the law and other people.

I have a niece who starts university this Fall and I sure don’t want their administration to willfully admit people like Shawn Oakman or Sam Ukawachu or DGB. I want my niece to be in as safe an environment as possible, far away from these types, where her individual right to not be raped or battered counts equally as the individual rights of a star athlete.

          • brainpimp says:

And yet they do it every day. You are greatly exaggerating his situation.

@ BS. Art Briles knew EXACTLY what he was getting, that is the actual problem. You have it backwards.

As soon as you and your self righteous elf ar eht coach you can make those calls. Stoops and myself clearly disagreed with you. Not sure you ego will recover.

Wow, your self righteous smugness is astonishing.

People with special talents catch breaks, amazing.

This just in, water is wet.

No he was dismissed because Pinkel was receiving heat for this and SEVERAL other incidents.

You have a bad habit of arguing wet streets cause rain.

          • JB says:

I don’t know what world you live in (Mars?) but in this one, most employers do not hire known troublemakers and law breakers. I personally had 3 employees terminated for falsifying their criminal histories this year alone, and I could not work where I do with a criminal history, whether formally charged or not. My application would’ve been rejected.

You can’t even buy a firearm with a misdemeanor domestic violence charge on your record.

Briles and BSU coach Peterson both said differently. But OU knew exactly what they were getting in DGB, a drug trafficker and batterer of women. Therefore, I disagree with Bob’s decision to bring him on the team, the only ethical decision of his I disagreed with. Bob has been mostly right on such calls. I don’t agree with everything Bob does, and Bob regrets some decisions he’s made too. He isn’t perfect, he makes his fair share of mistakes just like the rest of us. Does he regret bringing in DGB? Only he knows. That wasn’t my point. I regret that he brought in DGB and I outlined my reasons why. His actions demonstrated his lack of character, and i want to win with people of higher character…like Mayfield, Perine, Roy Williams, Quentin Carter, Jacob Gutierrez, Josh Heupel, Nila Kasatati, Jed Barnett, etc.

Do you consider being a law-abiding citizen and respecting women considered smug these days? That is astonishing to me. The only self-righteous person in this conversation I see is you, and it sounds like you might need to re-examine your values.

Now, run along, little boy. Us grown ups have work to do and I’m bored with this conversation that you’ve taken so far off the original topic. In other words, I’m ignoring you. Have a nice life, say hello to Stephen Dale.

          • brainpimp says:

So what is your solution, throw these people away?

Your personal work situation is irrelevant to the conversation. You are not the whole of society.

The BSU most certainly did not say that. He produced the faxes they sent explicitly showing that Briles knew and BSU informed him. But that wouldn’t help your argument.

You keep making irrelevant tangent arguments that have nothing to do with the central point. DGB was an exemplary student while here. The situation was reviewed by people with way more information than you or I and they decided it was a good idea. Bob has never said he regrets bringing in DGB that’s only you.

It’s only you that disagree. It’s your self righteous belief that only the righteous deserves a second chance.

Now little girl run along to your playhouse. The adults, dealing with reality want to talk.

I’m glad non of us have ever done anything wrong whether we were caught or not. I’m the last person to cast a stone. I said this at the time and I will say again, there will be some interview where DGB will compliment Bob & OU for taking a chance even though he didn’t play. I also feel DGB will say that OU made him a better person. That is what should make us proud. That relates to kids who had tuff backgrounds.

            I don’t think Pete’s cheated like Capel’s staff.

I really like Pete Hughes personally and wouldn’t mind getting him in the radio booth like Merv Johnson in football. I want to see Pete succeed and I wish things turned out better for him here. It just hasn’t worked out that way.

          • DrewChubbs says:

I don’t know…i would bet Hughes could’ve won a basketball national championship with Blake Griffin. Capel will always occupy a low spot in my rankings for not doing so with Blake. Any coach in America would have been in position to do so.

He’s the #1 option of a pass-happy offense with a pretty decent QB in Stidham. Seems like it would be a dumb choice to opt out of that.

      • Ura Hogg says:

True, if a player doesn’t mind carrying the stigma with him of choosing to remain at a program like Baylor after it has been exposed.
Those who remain could well be some of those who were part of the problem. The coach and university as a whole covered up their indiscretions and now they feel a sense of indebtedness to said university. If he’s totally innocent of active participation in crimes committed, he’s guilty by his failure to report the actions and by association. Everyone’s quick to call out all of the coaches, because most of them, if not all likely were aware. But most likely a large percentage of the players knew about it and apparently kept quiet. The ‘honor code.’
Again though, it’s his choice. When he’s likely drafted to the NFL everyone will see “Baylor” next to his name. Be assured this scandal will not have been forgotten that quickly.

Quick, any Sooner fans there?!?!? If mayfield gets this year back is it true he won’t be allowed to use it at OU? That would really suck to see him to play for another power 5 team after a playoff run with us.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

If the rule is not changed, it is true. Rumor is he’d consider following TK9 at aTm.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

That really sucks. I would hate to see him play for any other power 5 team ?. I personally don’t think he’ll be that high of a draft pick so I could see him using that final year to maybe improve his stock some. I’ll be so sad 🙁

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I will be surprised if the rule isn’t changed for him to stay. Bowlsby seemed to be making the point that having a rule that encourages players to leave the Big XII for the SEC or B1G, etc is bad for the brand and for the product on the field. It’s especially egregious when the player is at the star-level of Mayfield.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Ugh. I hope he’s ours for another year. Sure that hurts Kyler and Kendall’s chances at another year to shine, but I would take a third year with mayfield in a heartbeat over the other two. That offensive line will be straight filthy and with Mayfield at QB? Good lord.

    • Rick says:

There was some discussion of that yesterday, and he could “choose” to give a school his last year, but he has always been OU#1.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I get that IF he gets the year back and is allowed to stay that he would stay, but I’m wondering if there is a rule that won’t allow him to use that last year of eligibility at Oklahoma.

        • Rick says:

The big12 is discussing dropping their idiot 2 year penalty rule within the conference.

        • Bob Edwards says:

If the B12 rescinds their rule he should be able to play at OU. The transfer idea comes from the fact that, in any other conference, he would still have another year of eligibility.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Thanks bob. I can always count on you with these kinds of questions! Have a wonderful day! I’m about to head out to this graduation ceremony. Just wanted a few answers because I was just discussing this with my family and I didn’t know the exact answers, until now! Thanks again.

    • Scott says:

      He would enter the draft.

    • Bob Edwards says:

This year is his forth year of which he will have played three so by NCAA rules he has one year left. The lost year is a B12 rule that says you lose an extra year if you transfer within conference. So if that rule is overthrown he should be able to play at OU.

This is some guess work, I think he should still have a year left in any other conference. So if he graduated and went out of conference he could use the graduate transfer rule to play another year.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I understand the graduate transfer rule. If that’s the case, I don’t think he uses it. If he gets another year at OU then I think he stays and leads us back to back! Lol

        • Bob Edwards says:

A lot will depend on this season. I can see him going either way. A couple of late game scrambles with impossible throws to win the game, a Heisman Trophy, and an NC for OU and he is probably a high first round draft pick. Hard in that situation to turn down the money and the chance at the league. We go 8-5 and nobody is probably interested. He made need to come back another year to prove himself. Hard to predict this far out.

    • JB says:

No. He would be able to play at OU. The issue being voted upon is to allow a non-recruited walk-on to transfer wherever they want without restrictions. If passed, he would regain the year stripped from him by conference rule that forced him to lose the year in the first place.

  • blaster1371 says:

In an Open Post a few weeks back, Super K mentioned another player on offense was considering transferring. This post came after Humphrey and Ross left the program. I guess that player had a change of heart. All this to say where does OU get the scholarships to add any defectors from Baylor?

Secondly, What happened to Parish Cobb? He was so “torn” between OU and Baylor during his recruitment how can OU have fallen off his radar as possible landing spots? The only one mentioning Cobb and OU is Super K.

    • SamSooner says:

Take a look at the texsa TFB site: Super K reports does not have a mention of OU. However, on this site, K says there is interest in OU. However, I think K is being kind. It was almost like an after-thought.

      • Rick says:

Sam, if you notice, the texsa site writers have a few “texsa fans”, on the OU site OUr writers have a “few fans”. Examples, I think Andrew is a texsa fan and Jordan and Brandon are Sooner fans. The wild card I am unsure of is K. The one thing I am for certain sure is that ALL of the guys are HS and college football fans. They seem to have a genuine love of the game and appreciation for the kids no matter where they are from.

        • SamSooner says:

I think Super K is all OU. I mean the OU site was launched first. Super K is being Super K, professional. He’s being neutral. I think he’s all OU.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I honestly couldn’t care less about Cobb at this point. With this secondary class Cooks is putting together as we speak, I don’t think Cobb makes a difference at this point.

    • Doobie74OU says:

According to Crimson & Cream Machine after we signed our recruiting class we set at 86 scholarship players. Alex Ross & John Humphrey transfered out, Cody Thomas left for baseball, and Hatari Byrd is no longer with the team. That takes us to 82 but then Kyler Murry and Gen Lewis transfered in so by my count it appears we are at 84 leaving room for 1 player but as mentioned maybe the coaches know someone else that will not be here as well! Anyway that is the best I could figure out. LOL!

    • SamSooner says:

      Who is this?

      • UGA Sooner says:

        • SamSooner says:

Are you holding the state of Georgia down for me?

          • UGA Sooner says:

You better believe it. I actually ordered an Oklahoma license plate the other day. I’m hoping that some recruits would see it while on campus at UGA and think of Oklahoma and OUr national brand. I’d love for OU to break through and have a GA pipeline just like California

          • SamSooner says:

Yes, and the $EC is going to help as soon as OU joins. I’m very interested to see what was discussed at the Big XII conference meetings next week.

          • UGA Sooner says:

I would love Oklahoma in the SEC. I think they do what Mizzou did and win their division multiple times the first couple of years they are in it. I can understand the BIG 10, but I would prefer the SEC. Kids love the SEC…for some reason

      • Rick says:

          • JB says:

I think the NCAA will add more to their self-imposed sanctions

          • Rick says:

I wouldn’t doubt it, I’ve just never heard that kind of self imposed punishment before. It could wind up taking some of the pressure off Baylor.

          • SamSooner says:

I would like to see the NCAA get out in front of this and set some minimum requirements for these self-imposed punishments. To pull another “Southern” thing out for you Rick: I don’t like the fact that a school gets to pick their own switch. No. Let Mama pick the switch.

          • Rick says:

I with you! I was reminded myself earlier that OU has had their self imposed punishment accepted by the NCAA in recent history.

          • SamSooner says:

Of course, there’s an addendum: only the Sooners can self-impose punishment.

      • cush creekmont says:

Yeah. There are a LOT of places that THINK they are important. Still, the PAC may be heading toward desperation. If the ACC/12-2 are blown up by the BI6 and the SEC, the PAC will have to find some teams somewhere to keep up – best odds now are texsa and 3 little ones they take with them.

        • SamSooner says:

Cush, that is a very good point. The Pac 12 needs to add texsa to maintain the same level of prestige as the SEC should OU go to the SEC.

          • JB says:

Or the SEC will need to add Texas to increase their prestige when OU joins the PAC.

    • RocketCitySooner says:

The most common complaint about the BigXII, is the home schedule. Name two teams that would improve the home schedule, increase TV revenue, and are available.

      • Oscar says:

Exactly. Who would you go to Owen field to see play the Sooners. Most of the proposed additions bring nothing. We need jump to another conference ASAP.

        • RocketCitySooner says:

Those who advocate teams like New Mexico, Cincy, Tulane, Rice, Memphis, etc., are only interested in keeping the Big XII alive because they know their favorite team will not find as good a home as they have now.

          • cush creekmont says:

If those weaker 12-2 teams start adding non P5, they are making MORE competition for themselves when the inevitable 4-league realignment comes about. 4 x 16 is 64 teams. Current P5 = 64 teams AND ND = 65. MAYBE one league has 17 or 18 rather than 16, so no current P5 team is kicked out, but if they start adding more, ISU, KSU, BAYLOR (oh, they HAVE a problem) could find themselves with the non-P5 teams

Another case of “watch what you wish for.”

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Some do advocate a 4 x 18, or 72 member Division 1A. Fairly common among those who would like OU to join the PAC or among those who like PODS.

          • RBear says:

Without poaching a big name from another Power 5, there’s not much left to choose from.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Name another Power 5 team that would want to join the Dumpster Fire known as the Big XII? No, “poaching” another Power 5 team is wishful thinking.

          • RBear says:

didn’t claim any would want to come, only that there are slim pickins otherwise.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

As the saying goes “The chances are Slim to none, and Slim left town yesterday.”

I do get a kick out of reading things like: “All we have to do is get Notre Dame and Clemson to join the Big XII.”

          • RBear says:

It’s just part of the conversation- the Big XII is between a rock and a hard place because of their lack of forward thinking (leadership). So, they’re gonna have to sleep in the bed they made for themselves and that might just mean adding teams that don’t belong in a Power 5 conference.

In MY perfect scenario, the Big XII would SOMEHOW convince both Nebbish and Iowa to bolt from the BIG and rekindle one old rivalry while making another a conference clash. Proximity helps too- but, that ain’t gonna happen so OU (the only team I give a S about) is gonna have to bolt to maintain their status.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Nebraska and Iowa would make a couple of fine additions. Or, then, we could just take Iowa State with us to the B!G. More likely, more profitable, and same rivalries. I would gladly give up Texas and Oklahoma State for that.

          • ccmosaic says:

I would not give up Texas. The one worry I have about the BIG is our recruiting in Texas. I do not want to loose it.

          • Oscar says:

That would make the SEC a better choice than the Big, unless UT goes with us to the Big

          • RocketCitySooner says:

I think playing the impacts on recruiting if we don’t play Texas are overrated. The state of Oklahoma isn’t moving. We’ll still get plenty of news and sports coverage in Texas if we don’t play Texas. Seriously, turn that argument around. How could Texas recruit against Oklahoma if they don’t play Oklahoma. Doesn’t make sense does it?

          • Bob Edwards says:

If we went to the SEC I don’t think dropping Texas hurts us at all with recruiting. I am not so sure about the B1G. I can’t imaging the B10 network is that popular in Texas.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

You’re thinking like a fan. You need to think like a recruit deciding which school is best for him. The BTN doesn’t have to be popular with fans in Texas, it has to be popular with the kids you’re trying to recruit. If you’re a big time program, those kids will watch. Besides, BTN would be an improvement over the BigXII network.

          • Bob Edwards says:

Popularity determines how available it is. I don’t know how many people in Texas have BTN.

          • RBear says:

          • jimintexas says:

You make valid points. But, to most kids in texas, LSU, MSU, Alabama, College Station, etc are perceived to be a lot closer and easier for parents to get to than Columbus, Lansing, Happy Valley.

btw (Happy valley is almost an all day trip. Absolutely no direct flights from texas)

          • jimintexas says:

We did pretty decent in texas, during the Big 8 days. I am not necessary for playing in the BIG, but playing in front of some of the largest crowds in college football is something that can be sold.

          • Oscar says:

Kansas and Iowa State have to be the biggest underachieving sports departments in the Big 12 based on demographic population density available recruiting areas. Both have large urban areas within a 2 hour driving distance. Especially low performance from Iowa State. They should be much stronger in football than their tradition depicts based upon demographics.

          • RBear says:

Yes, I’d have to agree that in football, KU lags but more than makes up for it in basketball so the Big XII needs them, KSU has upped their game under Snyder so they’re marketable- we don’t need to dip below those two though when making any additions.

Never liked Boise as an option- BYU is ok except there was some concern on days they couldn’t play on for religious reasons (did I dream that, has that changed or does it still hold true)???

Dunno… not any one answer is gonna please everyone so I’d stick with the one that pleases just OU, leave the Big XII.

          • Oscar says:

          • JB says:

I think adding BYU, playing 10 conference games in lieu of adding a conference championship game would strengthen the conference and improve our chances of getting into the final four. I think it would boost the quality of league games because they have more history & tradition than any big XII member, save OU, ut and TCU.

Berry Tramel wrote an article in the Fall saying that the Big XII needs to expand to 12, and said BYU and Boise State were the teams to add. While I scoffed at Boise, the more I’ve thought about it and looked at their football record the more I agree with him…IF AND ONLY IF we expand to 12 teams. I still favor the 11 team round-robin model and adding Boise would only increase our travel budget significantly. So it doesn’t make as much sense to add Boise so I hope we’ll add BYU abd BYU only.

I wanted to see the Big XII survive and thrive. That said, I have come to believe that it will not be to OU’s advantage to stay in this conference, and the only solution is to negotiate our entry to another conference after the 2024 season.

          • jimintexas says:

Please, no more private schools that believe they don’t have to make their reports public BYU is just another school that would be glad to be in a big conference. After both pluses and minuses, it make very little real difference in the conference.

          • JB says:

I think that the Mormons are more strict and devout in their faith and would not stand for that behavior. I think they would be compliant with federal law unlike Baylor. What was the last scandal BYU football was involved in? I sure don’t remember one off the top of my head. It’s not like LaVell Edwards or Bronco Mendenhall ran a win-at-any-cost program full of thug rapists.

BYU managed to win a national championship without cheating. I’d be 1,000 times more interested in watching BYU-OU, BYU-Texas, BYU-osu, BYU-WVU, and BYU-TCU than I would seeing any game by Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas Tech or Baylor.

Not without some kind of BIG bribe would they consider a move.

          • blaster1371 says:

Yep the carcass has been picked over. Some of the up and coming teams like Houston and Memphis have yet to show they can get it done year in and year out. Of course, the same was said about TCU and, after a few years of struggling in the Big 12 have done alright.

          • jimintexas says:

TCU had been playing pretty good football for more than 1 or 2 years, before coming to the b12.

        • JB says:

I would go see BYU. Cincy, Temple, Colorado St, UCF, Memphis…NO

        • Bob Edwards says:

Nebraska, TAMU, Missouri, Colorado, .. oh wait.

    • cush creekmont says:

With that source, I’m surprised they didn’t advocate adding a school that doesn’t have football. Next time, try the Venezuela Gazette or the North Korea Daily News – better sports than huffington.

      • Oscar says:

I think Venezuela’s State supported paper just went down.

        • cush creekmont says:

They’ll still cover soccer er.. futbol now matter what 🙂 However, that country looks like the 12-2 IF OU would leave!

    • David Morris says:

So I wonder who they paid off for that article…

  • SoonerinLondon says:

OK, so if any of these Baylor guys actually WANT to transfer to OU, do we have more than 1 scholly available?

    • Rick says:

By my count, no, but according to the TFB guys we have a “few” to give. There may be some more guys leaving we don’t know about.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

        Thanks, Rick.

        • Rick says:

I was also kinda wondering if the NCAA involvement would make some sort of allowance for those Baylor players, who wanted to leave like they did for the Penn State guys, so that they didn’t count towards the scholly limits. It would seem most of them were totally innocent of wrong doing , being punished by the wrongdoing of scumbag coaches, like the PSU case.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Had to figure he was short-lived for OU. He’s got no connection to Oklahoma. Glad we had him while we did.

      • JB says:

I am glad too. Just wish we’d kept him longer. I hope Joe C can pull another huge name again.

    • JB says:

      UCF? That’s a step down.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Kind of what I was thinking. However, the professional tennis players are centered in Florida. That is the only up I can see.

        • JB says:

Won a national championship at OU and was runner up this year. I’d say he’s doing fine with recruiting here. Having been to Florida, unless you’re in Ft Lauderdale, I don’t see the draw. I also confess to being completely biased and 100% lacking in objectivity.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

That’s the Baptist “oiy vey”, I’m guessing.

        • BleedCrimson says:

It is actually yiddish for “Oh God”. I have a bit of a funny story about using yiddish words. Right after I got out of the Navy, I was dating a girl in Virginia Beach, Va. while going to school. We took her mother out to get ice cream and there was a guy screaming at his kid in the parking lot for dropping his cone. I used the term schmuck referencing the guy. While the three of us were sitting and enjoying the ice cream “Mom” asks me if I knew what that word meant. I said not really, figured it was something like jerk or something. She told me it meant adult penis. Schmekle is a used for childs penis. I never called anyone a shmuck again in her presence.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I’m guessing Allen Johnson wasn’t a supporter of allowing dancing at Baylor.

      • Rick says:

It’s never easy while inside the fish bowl. Accepting responsibility for something this profound would be hard for a supporter. I found it hard in the 80’s to fault Barry when everything blew up. He really lost control (there…I finally said it). I think Baylor fans are finding it hard to get past Arty’s daughter in law’s impassioned facebook rank in all her anger, when they need to be reading the PH report. Until they do they will literally be “grieving”. Reading the article is in the Waco trib is pointless, because too many fans are not at the point where they can see horrible injustice by the school, and by most particularly Briles. I’m still wondering if some sort of legal liability won’t be assessed to him personally.

        • JB says:

Barry Switzer had only Barry Switzer to blame for his predicament and the same is true of Art Briles. Where Switzer was too laissez faire with the management of his program, Art Briles was downright corrupt in the management of his. Briles gave clues to his character with how he coached the game by skirting or completely breaking the rules (e.g., illegal substitutions of WRs at the sideline), sending spies to scout opponents, etc. Bringing in known sex offenders and doing very little about complaints received shows winning means more than character to Art. I’m willing to bet that one day we will learn BU players got paid during Briles’ tenure although I don’t think that pay for play was limited to football.

As far as I’m concerned, piss on Art Briles and his coaching career. I’d like to see the parents of the rape victims sue the hell out of BU, but I hope Ukuwachu’s victim sues Briles directly since he was responsible for bringing him in the program and his past history of sexual battery was known.

        • SamSooner says:

Here is the thing about rape, other than the violation, these women are scarred for life. The emotional trauma could make it difficult for them to have a healthy, sexual, relationship with another man.

This horrible act was subsidized by BU and sponsored by a Briles. He conspired to cover it up. No, to hell with being fired, he needs to serve time.
