– Big-time Visitor | Adrian Ealy: TFB recently caught up with 2017 OT Adrian Ealy (Baton Rouge, LA), who said he plans on attending OU’s prospect camp next month. Ealy holds offers from a number of SEC powers, including the in-state Tigers, and while he doesn’t necessarily have any pre-existing connections to Oklahoma, Ealy told TFB “I love OU. I love the tradition and everything I know about it.”
This early June camp was already expected to be-a star studded affair with the likes of Marvin Wilson, Mustapha Muhammad & several others coming in. Now adding someone like Ealy to that list only makes it that much better. – (Super K)
– Fred Hansard: OU also offered yet another 2017Β defensive lineman on Tuesday, this one going out to Princeton (NJ) native Fred Hansard. Like Ealy, Hansard is a highly touted and widely recruited prospect. Hansard shared with TFB that Calvin Thibodeaux was in New Jersey to visit with him earlier this week. – (Super K)

Love to see the work going into these big time recruits. Can’t land any if you don’t make the effort. Players seem to like the coaches and the program enough to at least give a serious look.
The long term impact of pursuing these top players may come from other future recruits talking with them about their positive experience with OU and its coaches. Player-to-player credibility is showing up with SS17 and might be helped later even with a lost recruit who tells how he almost went to OU.
The difference between this time last year and now is just insane. The buzz is strong, news on big time kids seemingly everyday.

It appears they’ve completely changed their recruiting philosophy entirely, and that’s got a lot to do with it. They’re getting off their a$$es and getting aggressive finally. More than just aggression, too. The strategy is different in terms of where they recruit.
We definitely had some complacency issues with the old staff. I hate to say that, but it was the truth. Think too many of them thought the logo would do the work, but it’s a new day and age. This new staff is hungry and aggressive, love the mentality. That rubs off on the kids too.
I agree. I think most of our talent problems and recruiting problems were more self induced than anything, and I think it was complacency and flat out laziness.
For the last few years it seems we were avoiding big time targets and the battles that come with landing hem in favor lower recruited prospects with high upside like the Tappers and Sanchez’s of the world.
The recruiting from 2010-2013 was flat out bad. Luckily we have good coaches who can coach up those 3 star kids, but im really excited to see what they can do with the studs we have been getting lately.
The teams in 2018/19 ought to be brutal.
They just have to keep those scouting skills that helped them land sleepers like Sanchez and Tapper but still land the big fish. You need guys like Tapper and Sanchez as your backups who can develop and then see the field as juniors and seniors. They gotta develop depth and stop having to wake up the sleepers too early and put them on the field as true freshmen and sophomores like Dom and JEvans.

I remember Super K and the gang saying the playoff run would really start helping in the 2017 and 2018 classes, not as much in the 2016 class since all of those relationships were already established for a while.
Very true. It was frustrating not seeing the results in the 2016 class, but man is it awesome to see the impact its having now.

This may just be me (and don’t get me wrong, I’m disgusted by Baylor), but why isn’t anyone looking into Tennessee like they have been Baylor? I may have missed when they do, but it seems like everyone is forgetting the 6 (last i heard) women suing Tennessee for sexual assault. I remember seeing that and a few days after that I never heard about Tennessee again. Butch Jones also had a rape problem on his hands when he was at Cincinnati, I believe, so I think that man and program need to be looked at just as hard Baylor. I’m glad the Baylor stuff is coming to light, but I also think it enabled Tennessee’s issues to blow over and become forgotten. But then again I may have forgotten them too if I wasn’t good friends with a Tennessee fan who brags about how untouchable butch jones seems. I suppose this is the dark side of college football, though
I think the discrepancy you refer to is two-fold. Firstly, Baylor is a co-member of our conference, which does have an impact on OU and other conference members, even if indirectly. Secondly, Baylor being a private school with “religious” origins is doubly-damning for them. It’s really hard to promote the Word on one hand, while you are trying to sweep violence and sexual predations under the rug with the other. At least for me, that institutional hypocrisy make an already bad situation that much worse.

Absolutely. Rape and sexual assaults are some of the lowest denominators in human action…and are never excusable. However, Baylor, being an institution supposedly built around Christian beliefs should strive to be better than the rest, not better at covering up than the rest.

It kind of blows my mind that we haven’t seen any decommitments from Baylor after what was online this morning. Yet a kid will decommit because of what some stupid students (non- athletes) are chanting on a video, to me it really puts in perspective where kids rank sexual assault and rape.
I would bet that their recruiting for women’s sports is having a rough time right now. I can’t see people sending their daughters there given the current state of affairs.

It is weird. I know a guy who works with the athletic teams at Baylor. He as experience with other universities, before Baylor. He has some interesting observations. As far as women’s BB, he says the players hate her but go and stay because they feel they can win playing for Kim.
The supporters of Baylor do not care. They have never been relevant and now are. It’s sounds strange, but a lot of Baptist have sold out. I would not have believed it. It’s almost like the right kid will need to get assaulted for them to accept it.

I just don’t get how every God-fearing Christian, especially of the Baptist variety, isn’t withdrawing support for the school and issuing statements condemning every person in the “leadership” chain.
Many schools that started off as religious schools have turned into secular institutions. Most of the Ivy League schools started off as seminaries but have little or any religious affiliation today. For instance most people don’t know that Tulsa University is actually associated with one of the Presbyterian denominations.
Baylor appears to be in that category.
But does Baylor not still tout its religious roots?
It’s also a sad commentary on how some parents have failed to teach their boys how to treat women. With all the internet porn guys can consume it’s no wonder some see women as nothing but objects for thier gratification.

Hate to say this but, if you are a high profile recruit who engages in or doesn’t see a problem with this behavior….why wouldn’t you want to go to a University that “protects” you at all cost?

I still say you will so no action at Baylor more severe than an assistant coach dismissal, the hiring of an internal person to put more procedures and teaching into place, and new sets of “university controls”.

I spoke with a gal from Norman last week during a call at work. I asked her about the old hometown, and I got an hour+ earful. According to her, the whole town is going to the dump. Apartment complexes going up but staying empty, the infrastructure crumbling, the city polytickin’ full of ticks, the city PD worse than ever, the OUPD ditto, the schools gone downhill…she went on and on. Really made me sad.
