2017 TE Jeremiah Hall Commits To Oklahoma

After several OU coaches teasingly tweeted about the possibility of an addition to #SoonerSquad17, TE/H-Back Jeremiah Hall (Charlotte, NC) put an end to the speculation in announcing his commitment to Oklahoma.
Hall has yet to visit Oklahoma, but tells TFB he plans to visit Norman on July 29th. Hall was offered by the Sooners back in May as an H-back and already holds a number of East Coast offers including NC State, Pitt & Maryland.

I like this get! Riley and Boulware saw someone they wanted, did not give a damn about his prior offer list, and got themselves a Flowers replacement (in my opinion)!
what is his 20 yd speed, 3-cone speed , and 40 yd speed ? his profile provides no information……….very modest offer list……….

He will be used in a variety of ways with a good OC.
H Back – Joe Gibbs used an H back for years at Washington.
With the spread we are seeing teams that don’t need the true to form tight end, rather, they need a player that is athletic enough to be versatile in their formations. A player that can put his hand on the line and block zone, lineup in the backfield to catch a shovel pass and flex outside of the tackle box to beat a linebacker in coverage; all on the same series of downs.

In other words, and I agree, we want top rated recruits. This is not to say that he won’t turn into a 4-5 star player. We’ll wait and see.
And some 4 & 5 star players turn into 1 – 3 stars in college. New coaches, new approach, new type of players. Bama offers this kid, he’s an auto 4 star. BTW, didn’t Bama go after the kid from Oklahoma last year that was less than a 1 star?

Yep. I understand when people get frustrated at a lower rated offer the week before signing day. That has the smell of desperation, but it’s June. They want this kid. So do I.

You will probably never see an H Back player rated as a 5* and rarely as a 4*. They don’t have a category H Back so they rate them vs another position such as TE or label them an ‘athlete.’ Since they don’t fit the prototype for a position they don’t get rated as high as the guy that does. However, if what you are really looking for is an H Back type player, he may be a perfect match.

He is a system type player. Utility player. He will play H-Back. His size is very comparable to Dimitri Flowers out of HS. Flowers was 6’3 219. Hall is 6’3 224.
Now, Flowers was committed to Boise State. Didnt have a ton of offers. Hall has similar skill-set to Flowers and Millard. Will play same position.
Absolutely hate the offer list bashing. Mayfield had, what you would call, a modest offer list. So did Flowers, Millard, Bradford, Lane Johnson, Jordan Evans, Zach Sanchez, Brandon Everage, Dan Cody, Teddy Lehman, etc.
It’s not about who has offered. It’s about a kid fitting the system and program. You’re schtick grows more and more tired by the day. Learn a couple of things about the game before posting as if your statements are fact.
I enjoy you reading our site on a daily basis. Just steer clear of not respecting a kid or bashing their offer list. They work hard for every offer. Coaches work just as hard to evaluate and find those that fit the program. And if you acnt tell, tbus staff is doing just that, and then some, by having the number 2 class in the country, by most services.

Hey Brandon, not really relevant to the post, but I was wondering, do you know how Stoops is looking to fill out the rest of our scholarships? I saw above that we only have 4 left, and I assume we’re saving a spot for both Hines and Humphrey, as well as Wilson and Okudah if we somehow manage to snag them. Is there anyone else left still seriously on our board?
I was told this class would have 25 to 28 spots. This year’s class will be bigger compared to last year’s. OU has to sign 4 to 5 Dline men in general and a few more Oline men & LB’s.
AMEN! How many kids (I won’t name specific kids because that’s not cool) have we seen with an offer list the size of the Mississippi that ended up doing nothing? I am of the mindset if the coaches feel good enough about the kid to offer than who am I to criticize? I know football pretty darn well but these coaches have forgotten more than I will ever know. The comparison to Baker was perfect for obvious reasons. The kid walked on at 2 separate programs and now finds himself at the helm of a championship caliber team with his name squarely in the Heisman discussion. Bottom line, if the kid is good enough for the coaches to believe in him, that’s good enough for me.

Never really thought about it that way, but “hey, my forty time is lower than my GPA” is just like shooting your age in golf, but harder.

I like this as much for the indication of what LR wants to do. Millard was a beast and was under utilized. The fact that we are still targeting guys like this is great for the HUNH mismatch. I love it.
What sort of packages do you see us taking advantage of that for? I was thinking line up in the diamond for a short distance package, and splitting him out if they load the box.
LR basically has a full tool box with this kid. He showed some blocking skill so he will be valuable in short yardage, he can also run pattern out of a heavy set. So many options.

H Back is usually a bigger back that will line at FB, TE, or slot depending on the situation. Basically both Millard and Flowers fit the description. I think Riley will probably do more with them than Heupel did though. Try to create a mismatch using them in the HUNH. If they put a safety on him you bring him in tight and run at him, if they put an LB on him move him out into the slot and throw to him. That sort of thing.
Good stuff and you do a multiple packages without substituting. Most teams use this including Bama. They are just used differently with different offenses.
Bob has always loved to use players like this on both O and D. Go all the way back to Roy Williams who was a hybrid S/LB. They really stand out when you go HUNH. If you get a mismatch, you never let it get off the field.
So, an H-Back is a “heavy” Wing Back?
In some senses yes, but ideally you want for him to also play like a TE at times. More of a FB/TE hybrid.
This kid is athlete and football player. Millard 2.0 in my opinion. Especially after Schmidt gets him.
Cool we got the next Dimitri Flowers. I think that’s what separates our offense from a lot of other spread offenses in the BIG 12. We always have that one athlete at the FB position.

He may not be the highest rated player, but his rating is pretty high for a H-Back. Welcome aboard young man. He is rated a little higher than Flowers was in 2014

Surprised at how good a RB he is. Riley is probably already drawing up plays to create mismatches with him. Doesn’t fit the prototype of any of the traditional positions, but then we don’t run a traditional offense. Looks like a 3* by traditional measures but a 4* for our offense.

There’s some good buzz on Twitter with SS17. Tre Brown and Bandy giving the horns down and Tre Sermon just welcomed Mr. Hall to the squad.
Jacob Phillips KILLED it at the Rivals 5 star challenge. He would be a great pickup for OU. If OU just closes with all of these 4 star kids they’re in good with, this will be the best class since 06. If they land 1 or more of these 5 star kids on top of that…possibly the best class Stoops has had.
It’s looking real good, fingers crossed till signing day.

Dude definitely is a versatile player. Almost reminds of of Hurd from Tennessee, but with more wiggle and slightly better speed. He’s the type of prospect an OC can salivate over on the different ways you can use him. Good pick up for the goos guys.

Of course he didn’t stick on campus, but it shows that they are looking for that kind of player. Riley seems to want a guy that can play multiple positions in the back field, end of line, and in the slot. It’s a way of creating mismatches when you go no huddle. These are guys that don’t fit into one of the standard recruiting spots so they don’t end up as highly rated, but in the right scheme they can be very effective.
You are exactly right Bob. Dalton was the first player I thought of when I watched this kid. Versatility with a belt clip.
Versatility is the right word. Too many people want to make him a TE and then evaluate him as a TE. But he is not a TE in the traditional mold. They are looking for someone who can be good in multiple spots. He may not be the best TE, or FB or Slot, but he can be decent at each.
Andrews is a good enough receiver that he can slide outside if need be yet big enough that he can play TE. So with him, Mixon who can play slot as well, and Hall you can have a set of players that could go power I (Mixon at RB, Hall at FB, and Andrews at TE) or five wide (Mixon and Hall in the slot and Andrews on the outside) all without changing personnel. So if the other team comes out in a nickle you slide into the Power I. They come in big, you go five wide. In either case, it creates a mismatch somewhere. Then, by going no huddle, you force them to stay in the mismatch.
Looks great on paper, just hoping the coaches put it all together just the way you stated. We definitely have the tools to drive a D-coordinator nuts.
We’ve done similar things in the past. They used to do a similar thing with Gresham and Murray who could both move around. I seem to remember that 2008 offense being half way decent.
