Deiontae Watts: We had previously reported that 2017 DT Deiontae Watts (Plano, TX) would be visiting Oklahoma this weekend, but wanted to check with him again as to whether or not that was still the case. After speaking with Watts on Wednesday night, we can confirm he is still expected to be in Norman this weekend with both of his parents.

This will be a huge opportunity for OU to make an impression and possibly even take the lead in his recruitment, as both Watts and his mother have told TFB the family are longtime OU fans. Also worth reminding that Watts is teammates with another of OU’s top 2017 targets, LB Anthony Hines. – (Super K)

Anthony Hines: Speaking of Hines, we’ve talked with a number of people familiar with his recruiting and have been told that as of right now the Sooners ‘hold a pretty strong position’ with the highly sought after LB. One person close to the situation even went so far as to say if Hines were to decide today, the belief is that OU would be the choice.

The more I hear on Hines, the more OU continues to come up as the possible front-runner for his services. – (Super K)

Jacob Phillips: Sticking with the LB theme, yesterday the Sooners hosted 2017 prospect, Jacob Phillips (Nashville, TN). Phillips holds a number of offers including from both in-state power five schools, Vanderbilt and Tennessee. I was only able to exchange a few text messages with Phillips yesterday — and plan on speaking to him further in the coming days — but it was pretty clear the Sooners made a good impression. “Definitely better than expected” was the way Phillips described the trip. Phillips then added the Sooners “gave him something to think about.” – (Super K)

Trey Blount: Oklahoma also extended a new WR offer yesterday to 2017 wideout Trey Blount (Atlanta, GA), who already holds offers from a number of major programs around the country including LSU, Alabama and Georgia. But immediately after the OU offer Blount told TFB, “I plan on getting there (to Oklahoma) for a visit soon now…they (OU) are one of my top schools.”

When asked that prompted his interest in OU, Blount said he liked the program in general but is also very intrigued by the offense Oklahoma runs. – (Super K)

Akial Byers: 2017 DT Akial Byers (Fayetteville, AR) shared with TFB that he is in Norman today on an unofficial visit. Byers is a player I (Super K) have had my eye on for a while. The Sooners recently offered to add to his list of offers from schools like Alabama, Mississippi, Missouri & several others. If you haven’t had a chance to watch his film, it is definitely worth a look.

Byers sent TFB a picture from earlier today while on said visit.

Chuck Filiaga: Sooners are apparently hosting another big man on campus today as well, in 2017 offensive tackle prospect Chuck Filiaga (Murrietta, CA).

Filiaga holds offers from around the country and in talking to a source close to the Oklahoma program, TFB has been told he is an extremely high priority (and has been for some time) for the OU staff in this 2017 class. We’re hoping to have more with him following the visit.
