Tope Imade: The 2016 offensive lineman out of Arlington Bowie (TX) let me know coach Bedenbaugh stopped by to see him yesterday. Bedenbaugh also asked Imade to call this weekend for a follow up. Imade is hopeful that an offer will be extended his way during said call. Oklahoma was one of the earliest schools to show interest in Imade, and his recruitment has really picked up of late. In fact, he received a Michigan offer last night. – (Andrew)

Parker Boudreaux: Oklahoma has been in hot pursuit of star offensive lineman, Parker Boudreaux, out of Orlando. We recently caught up with someone close to Boudreaux and continue to be told the Sooners are one of Boudreaux’s top schools. We have been informed that coach Lincoln Riley is traveling to Florida today to visit Boudreaux. This comes on the heels of a visit from coach Bedenbaugh last week. – (Super K)

Jace Webb: One of my favorite offensive linemen in this 2016 class is in-state OG, Jace Webb out of Hollis, OK. He is incredibly quick off the line, takes great angles in space to get to second level defenders, and has the hips to separate said defenders from God’s green earth.

Webb let me know he had his first contact with Oklahoma this week. He said coach Bedenbaugh told him that he was impressed with his film and wants to get a chance to work with him in camp this summer, which Webb is planning to attend. – (Super K)

UPDATE (12:21 pm): Tulsa Washington CB, Kyle Mayberry, picked up an offer from Arkansas State yesterday. Apparently, Mike Stoops stopped by Washington to watch the athletic cornerback yesterday. Mayberry tells us that coach Stoops stayed to observe Mayberry for the entirety of the defensive period. – (Alex)

That’s a nice head of hair on that guy in the background of that Tope Imade picture. Feathered and lethal

Really like Jace Webb. When he was brought to our attention, he was a hoss and hoped we would be in touch with him. Would like for 2 okie OL to get in this class.

    Coach BedenBOOM, like it.

Offensive line recruiting is my favorite recruiting.

Any chance the kid that just decommitted from South Carolina looks at the Sooners? I believe his name is davis

OP…just what this slow day ordered. Thanks guys

going by memory so may be off……
    — what about the oline guy from purcell/lexington area that tcu is after
    — rowdy frederick (?) broken arrow maybe

  • Boom says:

Are these all of the Oklahoma HS OL that would be in the hunt for a possible offer
    Luther Harris: 6’6″ 361
    Rowdy Frederick: 6’6″ 320
    TJ Fiailoa 6’4″ 340
    Jace Webb 6’4″ 295

    • Super K says:

From OU? Tyler Brown has a chance. After that I’d guess Jace and to a lesser degree Luther are the only other two with a chance at an OU offer. It will depend on whether coach B lands some of his current targets. I think Jace is as athletic as anyone coach B is recruiting and it shows up on film so he’s the guy I’d guess is more likely than the others. Id say Luther because he’s such a huge guy and continues to make progress. Think Jace could move up the board depending on how he looks in camp. Think OU has already evald the others.

      • Boom says:

        Forgot about Tyler. Thx
Due to Jace’s athletic ability, could he be a possible OT canidate

        • Super K says:

If he gets a little taller perhaps but might be an inch shy of what OU wants at that spot right now.

          • Boom says:

Makes sense. When evaluating, I would be interested to know their arm length and hand size. I know that is NFL stuff but I know Coach BedenBOOM is looking at that.

      • OU is going to evaluate Rowdy this coming season since he played injured for a good portion of last season..

  • Thomas Lenard says:

I’m not sure what exactly coach Riley is going to say to Boudreaux, but I like to imagine part of it will go like this, “Parker, I’m sure there are poeple telling you need to go to a run first offense, and they will speak bad against my Hot rod Lincoln O, but at Oklahoma, we run the ball plenty, and in that Hot Rod Lincoln Offense, I still need some road graders for all the hot rods. Can you imagine on our screens and passes behind the line of scrimage getting to shed that D-linemen and getting to go kill some linebackers and safeties?”

  • j l says:

Look at you guys, getting a mention by ESPN.

Glad to see your hard work is getting more attention, keep it up gentlemen!

  • OceanDescender says:

Jace Webb sounds like a Bronson Irwin-type versatile mauler of an offensive lineman; would I be correct in assuming so? I was never able to catch his highlight video when yall initially introduced him to readers.

    • Super K says:

He’s def quick and light on his feet. I think he could play tackle but may be an inch shy. Could perhaps get away with it in college but would def need to see him in camp to determine that because he plays in a downhill running attack offense

      • OceanDescender says:

Sounds like he’d love paving the way for a back like Samaje. If there’s a college coach that can turn a road grader into a pass pro aficionado, my money is on coach bedenbaugh.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

Jake Trotter linked to a TFB story over at the mothership. Finally starting to get the respect you guys deserve.

    oh i see mentioned below

  • Stephen says:

    What?

    • ComancheJoe says:

Jake Trotter acknowledged Esco’s “OU Attrition” article in an ESPN .com piece:

      Oklahoma roster takes minor hits
      3h
      EmailComment
      Jake Trotter, College Football
The annual summer attrition of college football has already begun hitting the Oklahoma Sooners.

Last week, running back Keith Ford announced he was leaving Norman two months after being slapped with an indefinite suspension.

Sunday, wide receiver K.J. Young was dismissed from the team.

Then on Monday, according to multiple reports, redshirt freshman cornerback Tito Windham elected to transfer. One OU website added that fellow redshirt freshman cornerback Marcus Green also had plans to transfer, though he later tweeted that he was staying at OU.

None of the players above, however, figured to play a major role for the 2015 Sooners.

Even before the suspension Ford had fallen on the depth chart behind freshman All-American Samaje Perine and Joe Mixon, who was the top-rated signee of the 2014 class. OU was also very high this spring on incoming freshman runner Rodney Anderson. Had he stayed, Ford was going to find it difficult to get carries.

Young and Windham were also buried on the depth chart.

Still, attrition bit by bit can chip away at a program’s depth, which is what has happened to the Sooners in recent years. Football Brainiacs looked back at OU’s 2011, 2012 and 2013 recruiting classes and determined that almost 40 percent of those players either transferred or never made it to campus.

Over time, that begins to have an effect.

      • Stephen says:

Yes, but I don’t see how that helps the SEC in anyway. OU out itself in this position by:

A.) Staying in a weak Big 12 with little media coverage. Although they’re making some good $$ at the moment. Bound to change once the newer teams get a full share of he profits.

B.) Not willing to adapt to today’s game that features new facilities, features, and uniforms while others were doing it years ago.

C.) Recruiting the wrong guys. Waiting too long to approach talent, in some instances.

D.) They went 8-5, which isn’t popular around here so they’re going to take some flack, fair or not, till the start winning.

Not saying I’m supporting the SEC, but that article has nothing to do with them and everything to do with us, and I can guarantee we aren’t the only team going through it.

        • ComancheJoe says:

I agree with what you are saying, and I’m not saying that this particular article was pumping the SEC. ESPN is an SEC propaganda machine. We are not the only team going through attrition, as you noted. I’m upset that they choose to credit TFB for this particular article because it seems to validate that there is a problem here, since the source focuses on OU football. Trotter could have used TFB player evaluations to show how much talent is expected in the freshman class, but there’s no juicy story there.

          • Stephen says:

Ohh, okay I gotcha. I guess I misunderstood where you were going with that. Yeah, I totally agree TFB deserves way more credit than is given to them. Unfortunately, they were credited with an article that isn’t too fun to read about. If you hate the negative stigma surrounding the program right now, don’t read Bleacher Report. Every article under OU is pretty much a negative one, and I’m sure that’s not an accident. Believe it or not, not all ESPN writers are down on OU but a majority are contracted to promote the two conferences that have the biggest TV contracts with them: the SEC and the B1G.

    • Rick says:

Power 5 attrition rates are at a 38% average. There are extensive articles written on the subject. I read a good one written about Virginia Techs attrition rates sky rocketing to 70% in 2010. ALL teams go through periods of attrition, even the almighy Alabama. Saban over recruits by roughly 10 players per year in anticipation of attrition in various forms. Defections, incarcerations, academics etc. Alabama shows a smaller attrition rate by over selling the team and culling the chaff. Stoops has always tried to keep the numbers pretty close to 85, he is not playing by the same rule book Saban is recruiting close to 95. Makes Bama’s numbers look much better. I would like to see ESPiN write an honest article about that.

  • Shelby is a Patriot says:

Eh, their mind is already made up about OU. Who cares what they think?

    • ComancheJoe says:

I get that, but it’s lame that TFB gets credit for a critical write up on OU instead of a number of other excellent posts. If Alabama had a 40% attrition rate everyone would be praising Saban for paring down his roster to make way for new talent.

      • Drew says:

Actually, I think I saw someone post on here that they have a 38% attrition rate.

      • SamSooner says:

I agree. Not to toot my own horn but I was asking about the national trend in attrition. Trotter, still hasn’t did the necessary homework. He fell on a nugget and tossed it aside because he’s too lazy.

SoonerMGB56 posted the the national attrition statistics today for the Power 5 and for each Power 5 team.

There were some pretty good questions posted today that have still gone unanswered.

        • EasTex says:

Would you say the silence was deafening?

          • SamSooner says:

Yes. I can’t hear myself think.

          • EasTex says:

            I heard that.

          • SamSooner says:

You crack me up. So deadpan.

But seriously, here is a good topic and no one is running with it. It’s my opinion that if someone were to take this and write an in-depth article, it would expose the SEC for what could be considered recruiting violations: they are getting an unfair advantage by over recruiting, moving things around to hide some wrong doings.

            This smells like Enron.

          • EasTex says:

It would take a journalistic source outside of the alleged sports journalism arena. The sec/espn cohabitation is far too profitable to be assailed by anyone in alleged sports journalism.
Even the ncaa is not interested in holding the schools in the sec too account, just look at the way they brushed aside the Cam Newton debacle.
In addition, no blogger of any sec school is going to assail their coaches/program negatively, they would be excoriated and expunged from the ether world.

          • SamSooner says:

            You are right about that.

This is something FOX or any freelance writer who is looking to make a name for themselves could have written about.

I mean, look at the behavior of some of the TFB community of poster: I lot of curiosity caused some great questions to be asked, research was done, information shared. That the way a news room is supposed to function.

The people responsible for what gets printed and shown are supposed to make sure the things of substance get to its audience.

          • EasTex says:

The 2011 class and its attrition was an anomaly and should have been left to stand on its own. Adding in the past few years since created a false premise which was obvious too many. I am rightfully proud of the many who actually did the leg work to reveal how flawed it was.
From my perspective, there always has been and will be attrition. The kids that put in the work on the field and in the class room, have self-respect(which is needed to show others respect), are good team mates(whether they are stars or not), students and citizens will have my unending admiration and respect as a Sooner.
If kids screw up(and we know some will) I hope they can learn from it and go forward to live good lives.
If kids have injuries that prevent them from playing(or at their previous level) I share that pain with them.
I never get too high or too low, I like riding the wave and have little patience for grown men that are always finding something too complain about when they should just STFU and enjoy the ride.

I did, though, have the blues one time…it put my face in a permanent frown…

          • SamSooner says:

EasTex, I really appreciate your perspective. You are a leader of men. Leadership, to me, is remain calm during a storm so that others can find their center. While you are patient, you have no patience for those who contribute to riotous behavior, displacing quiet with unnecessary noise.

          • EasTex says:

            Thanks, bruh.
Actually, I have always found myself thrust into being the leader irrespective of endeavor. I have been blessed in many ways and many times. I’ve saved lives and helped some have a better life.
I recognize fears and generally view them as a motivator.
Courage and honor mean a great deal to me and I abhor bullies, cowards and those with no honor.
I feel gratitude for so many things, including Sooner football.

“Gratitude is a noble virtue; you
have to respect yourself to be grateful to others.
Only those who feel blessed can be filled with
gratitude. It is a kind of courtesy of the heart.”
            ~James Lewis

        • Sooner Ray says:

Someone posted somewhere this week that our attrition was over 50% during the Blake years……things are looking up. 🙂

  • Jason Vos says:

Critical write up on OU does nothing but hurt the program. These things spread like wild fire, and give coaches ammunition to recruit against us.

I like the info TFB provides, but it might be getting to a point where other teams are using any negative information posted by TFB as fuel for a fire.

When it was just recruiting information and spring practice info, everything was all good. But now printing negative articles and announcing every player that leaves like its a big deal just rubs me the wrong way.

    • Zack says:

Personally I don’t care if there’s negative recruiting going on. I would welcome it. I want to see OU get the 25 guys each year that bleed Crimson and cream. negative recruiting will make it easier to find the right guys if you ask me

      • Jason Vos says:

Yes but why help out other teams? Recruiting is tough enough as it is. Why bring the program down. I don’t get it, and quite frankly I am very heated about it. Its the off season I know and news is hard to come by, but id rather see no news than negative news.

Bob Stoops is one of the true good coaches in college football. He does everything by the book, and runs a solid program. So when ppl try to make it seem like he is not doing a good job, its just upsetting.

We are lucky to have Bob as coach, he has been a true warrior for the past 15 years and has given his all for OU. The man needs more praise, not unwarranted negativity

        • Zack says:

I didn’t read trotters article and I rarely read anything on espn. I bet there’s negative articles out there for every major team so it doesn’t bother me.
But if some are questioning the job stoops has done and is doing then I agree that is unwarranted. And more people should write about the positives not just the negatives but that’s a worldwide problem not just an OU football problem.

      • Fear The Magic says:

Zack I usually agree with most of what you say on here but in this case I definitely think that Negative recruiting is a very big deal and not easy to overcome.

        • Zack says:

How so? I’m just saying what a lot of old school guys are thinking. If a kid could be swayed by another school picking us apart then why would we want that kid? The staff needs to get back to finding the kids who will come to OU no matter what.

    • JD says:

Yeah it looks like the attrition write up wasn’t in the sooners best interest…I think the big question was what is the percentage at other big programs. There didn’t seem to be any answers early on…and that did make it look like a sooner problem when it’s pretty much more prevalent in the “game”…with all of the good (fast and free) info this site gives and the jealousy that ensues then it might be prudent to cross all of the T’s and dot all of the I’s when bringing a negative article out because the vultures are sure to feast

      • Rene Goupillaud says:

Actually, I think we should question the assessment in that piece. If the kids, read the comments (they should) they would see the differences in opinion.

I think the kids make decisions on more than one internet article. I hope so.

Teams that want to succeed must cut kids who hinder that goal. Want to play for a winner, go somewhere where that goal is reflected in what happens during the off season.

      • EasTex says:

It is often overlooked, but dotting the lower case j’s is also crucial. 🙂

        • SamSooner says:

          Hah!

        • JD says:

lol..yeah I always forget to dot the j…I read most of my writing though so I get away with it…:D…on another note….I might need a Deere upgraded with monster tires to stay above water tomorrow

          • EasTex says:

Man, the rain y’all have gotten.
I was tracking weather radar all day and starting early it was leaving Amarillo headed for OK. Then this afternoon/early evening I couldn’t believe how much stormy weather was covering OK.

          • JD says:

we just had a tornado in Carter county…streets look like the river wild and more looks like it’s on the way….I might go kayaking tomorrow

          • JD says:

Still raining heavy…..more on they way but maybe it weakens and dies out…I think we’ve had more rain this month than all last year lol

          • EasTex says:

It’s entirely possible, we had 15″ by the end of April and only had 21″ for all of 2014.

          • JD says:

I seen where we are currently in a second round of a double El Nino…could be an epic weather year…OjO

          • EasTex says:

            I call it “ILL” Nino.
Two things I do know, having lived it so many times before, a drought always ends with a flood and in August we will speak fondly of these rainy days and mild temps.

          • JD says:

Yes we will…I’m just thankfully that I can except the weather no matter because this is OK and it’s just the way it is

          • EasTex says:

Yessir, no sense in fretting over things we have no control over.

          • JD says:

I’ve learnt the only thing worth fretting is a guitar

          • EasTex says:

Now, that you do have control over. 😀

          • JD says:

hadn’t seen that show in a minute! I’m not there yet lol…I mess around with the scales but mainly write songs …Stevie plays a good devils dog lol

          • EasTex says:

Yeah, and Ry Cooder ain’t so bad either.

            Have a goodun.

    • boomersooner says:

Gotta agree. Writing something negative about anything without fully knowing what you are talking about is lazy, irresponsible and shows your agenda. It took someone a few minutes to debunk an entire article written by someone who’s not a fan of stoops and is consistently negative. Having a soap box should be an honor not a privilege

      • SamSooner says:

What’s up, my friend? Sorry to have to see your post under such unpleasant circumstances.

        • boomersooner says:

Hey brother. Been super busy. How you doing? Dude does a ton but there’s just too much smoke there to be “misunderstood” all the time. I get the fact that people put a lot of stock, faith, hope, etc in things and when they don’t work out the way you’d hoped it leaves a sour taste and you vow you won’t be fooled again. I get it but I’ll never understand it or agree with it and it sure as heck shows in people’s posts

          • EasTex says:

Good to see your nic, bruh.
As I always say, the alternative to being busy isn’t very pleasant.

          • boomersooner says:

You too brother. Trying to have folks finish our basement and get ready for kid #3 in a few months

          • EasTex says:

            Dang, #3.
I understand why you need to get that basement finished, keeping the young’un down there sure muffles the wailing. 🙂

          • boomersooner says:

Yeah we’re putting in an iron maiden for when they get too far outta hand

          • EasTex says:

          • EasTex says:

            Alrighty, then.
            /*add another chair*

          • SamSooner says:

Number three, huh? For you and your wife, a man-to-man defense won’t work anymore. You’re going to have to play zone defense.

          • boomersooner says:

Haha. She’s good at getting a hand in the face

          • SamSooner says:

Put your head a swivel. I’m in a better place now. We have three: I’m always busy. My second job is driving a taxi.

          • boomersooner says:

Yeah I’ve got a lot of practice. Our little girl is everywhere all at once

          • EasTex says:

I have three grandbabies. Grandbabies are the BEST.

          • SamSooner says:

Boomer, I’m good. Thanks for asking.

I don’t get why people aren’t naturally curious. Some of us are just too balanced with experience to over react. I guess that’s our role: to bring stability in an unstable environment.

I’m glad you contributed today. Everything will be fine.

  • Rene Goupillaud says:

Do you really want a kid who believes ESPN over his own assessment.? I don’t. Kids are leaving either because the can’t cut it r they can’t follow the rules. Either way, it is in the team’s interest they leave. If ESPN doesn’t get it, who the heck cares.

As I said, you can sign 25 a year or 125 over 5 years. That is a 32% attrition rate. I suspect that’s been pretty much the average for top 25 teams.since most don’t have 85 on scholly, I’d suspect 35% is probably the average. Thus 40% isn’t terribly excessive relative to others.

I think TFB’s analysis was shallow. We’ve signed some guys who didn’t pan out. They either had character flaws or were immature. Either way, you have to push them out. Has it hurt team performance? No doubt. But so have key injuries.

The best teams are fIlled with mature players who work hard, make sacrifices and don’t risk it all for a good time. Chasing pampered 5 stars isn’t a great strategy, ask Mack Brown. Switzer’s best teams had players who played at or over their ability. Bob’s better teams were similar. Calmus, Cody, Rufus, Quentin, and Everage were like Ricky Bryan, Sonny Brown, Jimbo Elrod, and Jerry Anderson. These guys came to play every down, every game. We need more of them, if we don’t sign those types, our attrition rate will be30 a 40%, it has to be.
