2016 CB Parrish Cobb Commits To Oklahoma

Image via 247 Sports

Recent OU commit Chanse Sylvie alluded to another possible addition to the Sooners’ 2016 class earlier today, and 2016 CB Parrish Cobb ended the suspense Saturday evening with the following.

As K mentioned earlier in the week, this likely closes things out for Oklahoma at CB in this 2016 class. With all likelihood, barring any unforeseen changes going forward, OU only takes one more 2016 safety.

We’ll have more on Cobb in the coming days, but wanted to get the good news up for you all now in the meantime.

And, of course….

boom

    BOOM!

  • KJ1123 says:

    BOOM!!!

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

I’m drinking a Sapporo in celebration of this!

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Nice! Asahi man myself, but I’ll join ya from Cali…

    • William Ryan says:

      Pabst blue ribbon over here!

    • ComancheJoe says:

Sapporo has a very special place in my heart! Long story: I was at a karaoke bar with some friends and we were all drinking whatever our beer of choice was. We were 2 rounds in when along come 5 Japanese men in suits, seated just across the room from us. They proceed to order a round of Asahi for their table. When the waitress arrives with their order, they yell “Asahi!”, slam a fist on the table and chug the beer. We start cracking up when suddenly I remember the Sapporo commercials that end with a high pitched “Sapporo!”. I tell everyone that the next round is on me and the waitress delivers a round of Sapporo to our table. We proceed to hold up our glasses to the Asahi guys, and once we have all locked eyes, we yell “Sapporo!” in our best falsetto and chug our beer. They were wide eyed, and quickly call for another round of Asahi! We accepted the challenge and ordered another round of Sapporo as well. After 4 rounds of “battle”, our adversaries tipped their glasses to us and ordered a round of cold sake for our table. It was absolutely a blast! ??

      • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

That’s an awesome story. Wish I could top that, but I just like the taste of it.

        • ComancheJoe says:

Hahaha! I enjoy Sapporo as well, so it wasn’t a hard challenge. I usually order Kirin Ichiban, since it is brewed in Southern California, I never have to worry about stale beer ?

  • j l says:

If theres only 1 safety spot available, do we have much chance of landing shurod thompson without also taking parker? Or would we take both?

  • Isaac Wright says:

Jordan parker? Shurod Thompson? Obi eboh?

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Boom! The last two weekends feel like Christmas!

  • Stephen Dale says:

does that rule out Obi Uboh ??

  • Cole says:

Which one of the Cali kids is a safety? Would they tell them no? That’s a lot of talent.

    • Jesse says:

Thomson is the safety. I don’t see them taking any other DB. Thomson is the main focus.

      • Ed Cotter says:

Doubt they say no to Brandon Burton, or to Deontay Anderson if he became interested. Cooks and Stoops can be very picky for that last spot. I like it.

  • Big Higg says:

Hudl says he runs a 4.37 40. Wow! Boomer!

    • Doobie74OU says:

Is a pretty good KR with that speed as well and OU has had several great KR that played in the secondary!

    • Fear The Magic says:

Scout has him as 4.62 verified.
Shows you the discrepancies from one service to the next.

  • Sarosh Nizami says:

2016 secondary class looking SOLID! What a great 2 weeks in recruiting! #OUDNA

  • William Ryan says:

I think they take on more cb if he’s an elite talent, only because Chandler is a juco guy and only has two years to play

  • Justin Johnston says:

I hear there might be another by nights end……..

  • Doobie74OU says:

I think TFB are just telling us that as things stand right now they appear to be done at CB! Obviously they can’t account for a overwelming talent telling the coaches he wants to play at OU, so the coaches take another CB. they also surely cannot account for any tranfers and/or injuries from the DB position that may open up spots later this year or early next year. As it stands right now it appears OU will have 2 really good DB recruiting efforts and that is a HUGE PLUS!

  • Ruddoj says:

the recruiters for OU have certainly turned it up a notch.

  • Slim Sooner says:

BOOM! Welcome to Sooner Nation, Mr. Cobb.

  • Stephen says:

Tyrie Cleveland is saying it’s decision time on Twitter

  • Jesse says:

Chanse I THINK is saying someone else is about to commit…

  • Stephen says:

If Chanse is the Tyrie Whisperer I’m going to lose it on here.

  • William Ryan says:

Give us Southall, Kelly, Bledsoe, and a surprise flip in parker and I think everything else will fall in place at this point.

  • Tulsa Terry says:

Top defensive secondary in a passing conference for years to come.

    • William Ryan says:

It’s starting to look like that with the addition of in my opinion the best top to bottom dB class we got in years plus the guys we have committed it’s definitely a bright future.

    • RBear says:

Chess pieces only succeed when put in the proper position. Time will tell.

  • Tag says:

    BOOM !!!

  • Jason Vos says:

The other Boom if there is another boom might be Eric Cuffee. Just a guess

    • William Ryan says:

Hoping Caleb Kelly can’t hold back the enthusiasm and pulls the trigger!

    • Mr. Jones says:

Super K tweeted this helps Texas with Cuffee so probably not. Excited to see who it is though.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Sylvie tweeted about another one right after retweeting tyrie Cleveland saying it was decision time

  • Jpsooner23 says:

Gundy and Bendenbaugh are pathetic. So sick of them being behind the game in this recruiting stuff. Kish and Cooks making them look bad. We are done!

    • William Ryan says:

Easy killer! they will bring in there fair share of guys the weekend isn’t over with yet lol. #oudna

      • Jpsooner23 says:

Just some sarcasm for our kish haters….

        • William Ryan says:

I never been a fan of his recruiting ability but the kids like him and he can coach. I’m not a kish hater some guys are just better position coaches than recruiter and as long as the we got cook and viney putting in the work on the recruiting trail we should be fine.

  • CS says:

Kerry Cooks seems to be taking off from where JM left and some more!! If the guy can coach half of how good he can recruit we will be more than just OK!!! BOOM

    • William Ryan says:

Agree with you completely our d line is set up for years because of him plus he was key in getting frison, Mbanosaur, and deberry and monty was key in getting cooks to come here

    • William Ryan says:

Cooks and viney are definitely putting in the work for sure.

      • RBear says:

Gotta find a way to keep Viney, no exception.

        • JD says:

Yeah..hes got swag…we would have to lose either a wr or backer coach…I wonder who the popular choice would be

          • William Ryan says:

I don’t think we have quality control coordinator and it seems a lot of other teams do I think he would be perfect for the position 🙂

          • JD says:

We have Austin Woods as O qc and CJ ah you as ST qc..how many qc positions do they have …I suppose there isn’t one listed for D

          • William Ryan says:

I think that’s what it was, if not we might have to start him a go fund me account to keep him around.

        • William Ryan says:

Simple as this we don’t keep viney we don’t get Kelly he already made that clear. Find a spot make a spot he’s been key in getting alot of players here.

        • L'Carpetron Dookmarriot says:

Agreed. Create a position for him: “Director of Locking Up Top Talent.” It’s in the Department of Winning.

  • Jpsooner23 says:

I don’t care if sylvie never plays a down for us. The impact that kid is making is huge.

    • William Ryan says:

Definitely this year’s class ambassador love kids that want nothing more than being a sooner

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Is anyone else all over the net looking for a second boom?

  • Exiled In Ohio says:

We’ve been hearing rumors of Stanvon to WR. Any chance this becomes true to open up another ’16 DB slot? Or is that apples/oranges since Stanvon is a JR?

    • William Ryan says:

He was explosive coming out of high school could be a better move instead of being buried on the depth chart.

    • JB says:

The only rumor of a Stanvon to WR I’ve heard was wishful thinking by posters on this board

  • EasTex says:

Welcome to Sooner Nation, Parrish Cobb.
May you have a great career at OU and become another legendary Sooner.

  • William Ryan says:

With the the commitment of Youngquist and Kelly coming eventually are we only looking to take one more or two more guys I know where in on jefferson and Bundage but with us moving to a more nickel based defence that only features two “true” lb would we be ok with just 3 lb in this class?

    • Zack says:

My opinion is that bundage waited too long. Unless they really really want him.

      • William Ryan says:

All signs point toward him coming, it would be hard to say no to the best player in the state.

        • Zack says:

I’ve heard mixed opinions about whether he’s an OU lean. I think it’s easy not to take the best player when he’s a hybrid player. We already have youngquist and terry. Then kelly seems to be a huge OU lean. So for that 4th LB spot do you really want to take a project or would you take Jefferson, Marvin terry, or the kid they offered the other day?

          • William Ryan says:

I agree with you on the lb situation with the scollys getting a little tight but Terry is not going to play a “true” lb position he will polly play the jack/stand up de. So that leaves us with Youngquist and Kelly and jefferson. In this defence the lb has to be able to play in space and I really like what Bundage brings to the table.

        • EasTex says:

I saw a video a few weeks ago when he was being interviewed for the top 30 Okie preps. I was not only unimpressed with the fact that he mentioned Okie Lite and not OU, but the way he spoke and his demeanor.
I don’t know the young man, but personally I would be okay if they pass him by.

  • Boomer4life says:

    I rather like BOOM’S!

  • SamSooner says:

    Welcome, Mr. Cobb. Welcome.

  • Jesse says:

Hey not to bash on any QB’s just a genuine question could you pass along who was throwing when Deberry got his pick 6 in practice today?

    • JD says:

Lol you don’t want to bash yet you want to know the qb hehe

      • Jesse says:

Yeah..? That might be weird to some of yall but I don’t bash on the QB’s too much haha. I mean it is only practice 3..

        • JD says:

Just thought that was funny…nvr seen you raggin before….btw I heard it was Gundy…fire Gibbs

  • Sooner Ray says:

They secret to enjoying the recruiting process is to just sit back and watch it happen. ?

    • JD says:

Whiskey and don’t give a F works for me…I trust the brand

      • Sooner Ray says:

        Exactly.

      • EasTex says:

Sweet iced tea and a “just surprise me” attitude works for me.

        • JD says:

In the morning its coffee black…noon till dusk its unsweet tea…after that its scotch or brewskies

          • EasTex says:

            Whatever works.
Once I learned that alcohol is body waste from microorganisms I quit. It even smells like p**s to me, now.

          • JD says:

Well I aint a monk so the alcohol lowers stress…a recent supercentaruian said her doc told her to drink a brew and whiskey every day and she’s 110…I don’t like going over 2-3 since Im not in college anymore…Im not even gonna reply to the micro waste lol

          • EasTex says:

Many alcoholic beverages were created by Monks. LOL!
They must have been stressed out.
I don’t need toxic excretions or any other substance to make it through the day. When big city life gets to me I just head to Caddo Lake, wet a line, fry up some fish, look at the stars and decompress.

          • JD says:

Yeah I do the same…youd be surprise the moments you can just sit and enjoy the moment and block everything out…some call it day dreaming but to me its just a way of life…btw I thought it was the christian monks…I went farther east

          • EasTex says:

When I’m feeling tensed up and can’t get away, I just head to the range and bust off some rounds. Shrinking my universe to the size of a quarter for an hour and blocking everything else out always relaxes me.

          • JD says:

yeah like you say,,,whatever works…I hit the six string or mess with horses the most

          • EasTex says:

Just a quick story and I need to hit the bunk.
I was picking up a neighbor at DFW airport this afternoon. I had just parked in a newly renovated parking garage and was approaching the cross walk to the terminal when I heard a soft female voice say “excuse me, sir?” I turned and saw a young woman in her 20’s in a fairly new Honda Accord with the window rolled down. She asked me how she could get from inside the parking garage to the roadway in front of the terminal.
I thought it strange, so I asked if who she was picking up was already waiting outside(it was 104), and she said yes. I said just tell them to cross the street to the garage and pick them up there.
She was holding her phone in her hand and said “well, I’m trying to do the Uber X pickup.” I was really stunned and the hair on the back of my neck raised up, so I told her just exit the garage and circle around. She looked around and said “how do I ex…” and I cut her off with “good luck.”
Schtoopid people driving and schtoopid people willing to get in the car with them and they don’t even have commercial grade insurance.

          • JD says:

            Hahahah….ohmmmmmmm ohmmmmm…goodnight buddy

          • EasTex says:

Those guys? They just fought all the time they were so stressed out. 🙂

          • JD says:

lol yeah those cats were fast as lightnin

          • Stephen Dale says:

lots of time on their hands……..

          • Cush Creekmont says:

JD, I’ll go with beers in the summer (good ones – mostly IPA). I’ll take a nice single-malt in fall and winter – Lagavulin mostly. I agree with Eas Tex on coffee and my Sooners, but differ on spirits 🙂

          • EasTex says:

            LOL!
And why do they call them “spirits?”
/the devil made me do it

          • JD says:

LOL I never blame the devil…I take all the blame

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Not me, I blame the refs (or saxet).

          • JD says:

Oh…I blame other people…just not for my life…I make my own destiny

          • Cush Creekmont says:

Wow – just saw the time! A great BOOM this evening, so I better get some sleep and get ready for my Sunday morning Kona and any more Booms tomorrow.

          • JD says:

            Good night buddy…easy sleeping

          • Jed says:

            Invictus, baby.

          • JD says:

Cant go wrong with the IPAs…recenty tried HornyFrog..pretty good

    • EasTex says:

As my English teacher always asked…”who is they?”

    • EasTex says:

      Ray, you there?

      • Sooner Ray says:

I’m here on occasion, been real busy. Getting ready to move some more hay today. Trying to get everything done before season starts.

  • Mizuno44 says:

Just saw this fellow brainiacs, I’m feeling some magic creeping back into the mix, ready for some foozball baby!

    • William Ryan says:

Sooner Magic is alive and well on a first come first serve basis so hop on before the bandwagon fans do 😉

  • Clint Lenard says:

Jordan Parker has OU in his top 7. Interesting.

    • William Ryan says:

Kid has good measurables but I think we will be full at dB by the time he’s ready to commit

  • Randy says:

I would bet they take one more CB, not sure who. But we need 1 more.

    • William Ryan says:

They will not turn away elite talent I could see em taking 5 dB this year

      • Randy says:

I could see Cobb as a RB in the offense. But you are right can’t have enough.

        • William Ryan says:

That’s very possible alas Allen Patrick who was recruited to play safety and who knows injury could play a roll so there’s no telling but I think more than anything we picked up a lighting quick cb that that can play press or cover 3 and last but not least he isnt going to need to give a 10 yard cushin to anybody.

    • William Ryan says:

Especially if where going to play 5 dB most of the time plus I don’t remember this many talented db beating down our front door this early in the recruiting process.

    • William Ryan says:

I bet it will be eboh and wrap up the class by bring in Thompson and that’s a wrap 5 dbs just like we both predicted 😉

  • SoonerFan16 says:

Who would’ve guessed OU would be in the position to tell DB’s “Commit soon or you’ll lose your spot.” This early in the cycle??

    • J J says:

If they know they can play immediately… It makes it very enticing. And face it, they likely will

  • hOUligan says:

I’m good with a late night BOOM!!!

  • KJ1123 says:

Thompson would be the last DB taken. The other 2 from.Cali will not go. Im ok with that.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

I bet Bob and the staff make room for an extra DB if they get a kid they really like, that wants to commit. They’ve done it before, and really, it’s just good roster management. I bet we lose a current DB after this season anyways, one we weren’t expecting. Nobody particular in mind, just seems like somebody might not like their playing time or the new coach, and might decide to go elsewhere.

    • William Ryan says:

I agree with the move to a more nickel I think we take an extra db and one less lb than anticipated

  • SamSooner says:

Thanks for the information, Jordan. BOOMS! are always welcomed, early and often.

  • SamSooner says:

I just watched Cobb’s hudl video, wow! He’s physical, fast, aggressive, and very elusive.

  • Rick says:

On some board (not concensus) 6 of the 9 recruits are now 4 star. A couple of the 3 and 4 star recruits could move up a place. The class is not finished yet (although it will be a small recruiting class) with maybe the most talented recruits to come. I feel much better about the recruiting than I did a couple of years ago. Boomer!

    • Zack says:

You and your stats. But the sky is falling Rick.

    • William Ryan says:

The main thing I’m excited about is the db and dl “thanks monty” can’t help but see these guys as being great players

    • William Ryan says:

But top to bottom the last two classes has play makers at all position don’t really see a weekness at all.

      • Sooner 76 says:

Couldn’t agree more. I like what I’m seeing recruiting in 2015 and 16.

        • William Ryan says:

Wait til them big boys on dl monty got last year and it could be scary for opposing offence

  • Daryl says:

I love Cobb’s aggression. He really will bring the wood. I think his footwork might need some work, but loved the fact that he seems really consistent in his jamming WR’s on the line. Keep them coming.
