– Bryce Youngquist: As you know, Oklahoma got a huge a commitment from 2016 linebacker Bryce Youngquist this past Friday. And it’s ‘huge’ for any number of reasons, most notably it affords the coaching staff some leeway as to where they go at LB moving forward and furthermore, gives them a potential game-changer for this 2016 recruiting class. There just aren’t many linebackers in the country who can cover in space like Youngquist is capable of doing. Which is a priority in the Big 12 these days, again, as you all know.
I had a chance to speak with Younquist this past weekend following his commitment, and as you would expect he was genuinely excited about things. He confirmed that his lead recruiter was outside wide receivers coach Dennis Simmons, though he did reiterate that the staff as a whole played a major part in his recruitment. Something we have heard more and more about with the whole staff showing great interest in their visitors and making them feel very important.
Youngquist also added, “ When I went to OU it felt like home, literally. I just felt like it was a peaceful place that I can go and focus on things I need to do.” He went onto say Oklahoma would be his only official visit, and that he would be discussing the actual date for that visit with his parents soon. – (Brandon)
– Marcel Southall: Another big visitor this past weekend was Duncanville, Texas 2016 defensive lineman Marcel Southall. I spoke with his father, Marcus, on Saturday and he said there is no way Oklahoma could’ve made a better impression with both the prospect and his family.
Once again, the whole staff made the family feel like they were at home. Marcus did go on to single out Marcel’s potential position coach Diron Reynolds saying, “ What impressed me about Coach Reynolds was you get the feeling he was being honest with my son (Marcel), me, and my wife. You have to appreciate that.”
Southall is planning to take visits to Arkansas, Texas Tech, Florida & Colorado in the near future, but following this visit there is every reason to believe OU is a strong contender here. – (Brandon)
– Chris Daniels: Continuing with the 2016 updates, I also spoke with the father of Trinity (Euless, TX) DT Chris Daniels over the weekend. He informed me OU continues to be at the top of his son’s of preferred schools. Though he did also make it clear that list is a very fluid one and, as such, there are no plans for a commitment in the near future.
However, he did say the plan, as it stands today, is for his son to announce his commitment on his birthday, December 18th. – (Brandon)
– Shurod Thompson: Defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks has definitely made his mark in landing Maurice Chandler and, more recently, Chanse Sylvie during his somewhat short time thus far in Norman. Cooks is someone that is constantly looking for prospects he feels may fit the mold of what OU is looking to do with their secondary going forward.
To that point, Cooks and 2016 DB Shurod Thompson (Brentwood, CA) have known one another since the former was coaching at Notre Dame. And their relationship has only continued to progress following Cooks’ move to Norman.
In speaking with Thompson, I asked what it is exactly that he like about Cooks. “Almost everything. That’s only because I haven’t visited. I like the coaches, program, brotherhood and crimson and cream.”
Thompson has already scheduled an official visit for the weekend of the West Virginia game. Which would be his first such visit to Norman, but that didn’t stop him from telling me OU is “my top school right now” when we spoke this past weekend. – (Brandon)
– UPDATE (2:09 pm): Yet another big name, 2016 DB Lamar Jackson (Elk Grove, CA), now scheduled to be in Norman for the WVU game.

great info much appreciated. it seems the good news keeps coming.
First?
Where is everyone?
Dunno bout others, but I was showering after an early morning con call.
I went in to sign a lease to a house, I walked out with an OP.
Beat me, I just got a ‘To Do’ list from an angry customer.
Jury duty in Tarrant County Texas. Blah. Waiting on selections.
Better you than me!!! Tarrant County for the win!
Have to go back tomorrow. Pulled with 60 others for further questioning and selection. TFB better have some good news tomorrow afternoon to make up the difference.
I wasn’t selected my last Tarrant County JD call. Time before, I was on a jury for DUI and the only defense the guy gave was that he started with only $20, which was not enough money for him to be intoxicated
I’m grateful I don’t ever have to serve jury duty.
Why not, if you don’t mind me asking? Canadian citizen, active duty, over 70, felon (wrongly accused of course)?
No felonies…lol. I’m a Law Enforcement Officer.
I would have liked to serve as a juror at least once, but I was never called. Now, I can’t be called…or more accurately stated, I’d be immediately dismissed if I were called. They don’t let us serve on juries.
Wow. Thompson (a 4*, Rivals 100 guy) says OU is his top school and hasn’t even visited yet. Nice job, Mr. Cooks! Hopefully his OV will bring his commitment!
FWIW the guy is ranked just below and could pick up his 5th *****. OU is his top school!! That there is some good news.
So I wonder if there’s still possibly big news coming this week! Lol
We’ve got something we’re still expecting to happen at some point this week, but it’s entirely unrelated to that whole deal from yesterday.
Any hints for the premium members here? (-:
Ah ok. Lol weekend was kinda a blur for me. Had neck fusion surgery Friday but did like coming to 6 hours later and finding OU had a Boom while I was out. Lol
Be sure and do your therapy and don’t try to do too much too soon. I’ve had fusion surgery twice. Try to ditch the pain meds as soon as possible. I’ve found tylenol and Knob Creek work just as well.
I hear ya rocket already working on getting off the pain meds. I don’t like messing with them anyway
hang with it. Lotsa warm heat was great when I busted mine. A TENS unit might also be worth a try.
Do not mix tylenol with alcohol, it is a very bad combo for the liver. Ibuprofen would be a better choice.
You’ll also find just as many ‘warnings’ concerning ibuprofen and alcohol.
the class of drugs containing ibuprofen have increased cardiac warnings…check with md before taking pain meds
good luck to you but don’t take drug advice from a message board
Heal up soon!
Hope it heals quickly!
Good luck- hope you heal quickly. Take all the pain meds you need, and when you don’t need them, stop.
Had it years ago. Pain went away quickly for me. I felt drowsy and tired for one entire week. Plug swallowing was a major undertaking for longer. Good luck with it.
There must have been 1000 posts this weekend. Which “whole deal”?
well over…..
The floating of “good news on the way” whole deal.
We are all Premium Members here. We deserve the inside scoop!! JK
Does it involve the secret visitor(‘s) or someone else? Does it still look like what was floated yesterday still look like it will happen?
(1) Someone else
(2) It does, but there’s a reason no one has actually put it out yet.
Jordan, this is killing me. I’m in the airport and I can’t contain my excitement. What was floated out there yesterday?
I don’t know that is was ever specified, but the presumption I seemed to get was that the idea was floated a possible commitment could be coming. If that’s wrong though, please someone feel free to correct me.
Cool, that would be nice.
So its potentially big news? Yes or no, it involves a Cali kid?
Jordan I know that you cant tell us but can I just ask you if it rhymes with Maleb Telly?
Fear, I have a feeling you and me are on the right trail. There were some rumors he may end it early.
That would be an early Christmas present for sure.
What deal from yesterday? Southall’s visit?
There were rumors from SS about the OL Valentin.. Possibly committing.. Have also seen on LT rumors about Eboh committing as well..
Lampkin?
I would certainly say that the Big MO is on OU’s side right now in recruiting.
Buut for a moment of me being a cry baby. I went to Secpn this weekend and not even a mention of OU landing a solid secpn 300 LB. Not a big deal but it sill just bothers me.
Most of the top 25 rated classes have a lot more commitments than we do. Last I saw, OU wasn’t in the top 25. Until we get over 15, they probably won’t give us much love.
Oh ya I completely agree with that. But they do a little ticker on their recruiting page of guys that have committed or if a school has landed a few people and there was not a single thing about Youngquist or Sylvie at all. That is what frustrated me. I know that our numbers are going to keep us out of top 25 for a while.
I agree. Was looking for it on ES PEE N…but found only crickets. Their talking points are that OU is down and Baylor and TCU have it all over us in recruiting and on the field. We’ll see who the real experts are. Conversely, Pete Futek has OU in the playoffs.
So, am I the only one who likes the attitude of both the new commits? One is recruiting for the good guys like crazy, and the other has cancelled visits to other schools. I also feel like Eboh and Southall are on the verge of pulling the trigger.
Love it.
This is an old one, but Trent Smith is one of my favorite players for his passion for OU. http://www.scout.com/college/oklahoma/story/187720-trent-smith-uncensored-i-hate-texas
Recruiting is more of a business these days. I miss the days when young recruits put their heart and souls into their favorite teams and had this kind of true passion.
Really hoping to see the DL recruiting pick up, could use a couple more difference makers up front. Thanks for the info K.
Any news on Teton Saltes ?
Who has the biggest upside, and who would you prefer Obi Eboh or Parrish Cobb?
It’s great that Simmons, the WR coach, was key in earning us a commitment from Youngquist. But, geez, can we give Kish a little credit? The fact remains, he had to have liked his position coach who I’m sure was involved — if not key as well — in bringing this stud LB to OU. I’m sure Bryce did his homework on Kish and that the two talked often. I’m even more sure that if he didn’t want to play for Kish, he wouldn’t be coming to Norman.
There is a reluctance here to give Kish much credit for anything. While Simmons may have been his lead recruiter, a LB does not commit to a school because of its WR coach. He had to have liked Kish a bunch or he doesn’t commit to playing for him. Period.
Or he liked Simmons that much, and Kish wasn’t a dealbreaker. Jerry Montgomery got players here that weren’t DLs too. I think Kish could get a lot of doubters off his back if he brought more players in and he was the lead recruiter on those commitments.
Yes and coupled with improved LB play Kish will get the credit. But short of that and not really knowing who are the lead recruiters with each commit, we still have a right to doubt.
would agree………..hopefully there is somebody else on the staff who can coach linebackers so OU can keep Viney and help Kish into a senior retirement home…
I saw too many TE’s or receivers getting open in that area behind the LB and in front of the safeties…Evans a little bit, but without a doubt Alexander looked like he was only covering dirt…Not privy to the scheme, but watching OU since 1972, I think I recognize the inability to recognize where the ball is going.
Exactly. Thank you.
If we whiff on fundamentals, throw those silly “bump” tackles or generally put players in the wrong position, it does not matter if we have a crew of 5 star LBs (See Bama). I could care less who brings in the talent at this point.
That’s right. It’s a team. I think Kish getting Deberry and Hulk last year (if he deserves the credit) goes a long way in posters starting to give him credit. However, Urban Meyer said that he has coaches that are better at coaching than recruiting. Others are great recruiters. Not all coaches are good recruiters.
Deberry was mostly recruited by Montgomery though.
Well, there you go. Others recruit and Kish coaches. We better have a better defense this year.
There is no reluctance to give kish credit. It’s nothing personal. It just so happens that the kids don’t often mention his name. Bryce did not mention his name.
Sorry you took that as a slam on you Super K. It certainly wasn’t intended. I was merely pointing out to the Kish naysayers that Youngquist knew who his position coach was and still choose OU over Oregon. That alone tells me Kish is doing a good job.
Kish is very well liked by almost every LB recruit I talk with. One of the nicest guys in the business .
almost?……lol
I should word it differently. He is liked by everyone..
You should say that on here more often. Some variant of “Fire Kish” seems to gain traction what seems like twice a week.
Thanks Brandon. Being an “old” coach myself, I cheer on other old coaches. Kish is one of the good ones.
Sounds like cooks can sure recruit. Time to move stanvon to wr to open up another DB spot for cooks this year. It looks like if we had the space he would land 6 more DBs for us.
I’m ready to see diron land one of these targets but I do like that it appears he’s being conservative and not pushing for early commits. If the DL shows out this year then I would imagine guys will be lining up.
I’m hearing really good things about Reynolds from a coaching standpoint. The guys respect him and feel he is teaching them a lot. Like you said, if he gets results on the the field, I’m not so worried about recruiting solid DL prospects. M
The on the field results will take care of recruiting. Need ‘coaches’.
not much news involving reynolds since he arrived, so good to hear
Umm, Stanvon might be one of the better CBs we have on the roster so I doubt he’s moving to offense anytime soon.
The same stanvon that didn’t play last year after having a solid freshman year?
I know. Last year of all years, he couldn’t get on the field?
He played in all 13 games last year.
No. Never heard of that Stanvon Taylor. I mean the Stanvon Taylor who played in all 13 games last year and recorded twice as many tackles in 2014 than he did in 2013.
8 tackles? Those must have all been on kick coverage because he did not see any meaningful snaps at cb
That Southall looks like he’s a grown man in his 30’s.
Great news re: Cooks and recruiting. He’s always done that well.
And while Shurod Thompson looks very good, I hope Cooks is going hard after Okudah. He’s the real deal.
I believe Okudah is 2017
I don’t remember reading on TFB anything about a shoulder surgery for DeBerry or a back injury for Hulk.. Did you guys have this information & chose to sit on it or was this a surprise to you as well…? I ask because you seemed to get the Baker information, you had, out before most others..
I’ve heard tons about Hulk’s back injury, not sure if I heard it here or on KREF. This is the first for me as well about DeBerry’s surgery.
I had read, somewhere that Hulk had a possible leg injury.. He debunked that one but i had never read anything about his back.. Unless i just blocked it out of my memory..
Its always been his back. He came into OU with it. I dont think TFB disclosed it, that kind of news could be tricky I would imagine.
DeBerry thing was out there and had been for some time.
McGinnis isn’t a back issue, at least not based on the info we have. So that’s why you haven’t heard that from us. Now maybe the back is related to the issue we’ve reported on previously (I think we did anyway), but I don’t believe we’ve ever been told that’s the case. Which isn’t to say the reports are wrong necessarily, it just doesn’t jive w/ what we’d been told.
A little confused..? So, you guys have info on Hulk’s injury that you’re holding back..?
I thought K had already put it out there previously. Is that not the case?
I don’t know.. I had read about a possible leg injury earlier this summer… But Hulk himself shot that down & now we have the DOK report of a back injury…?
I was told earlier in the summer he had a pinched nerve in his rear end but the medical source of that I wouldn’t know so I simply said it was an issue in his lower body
Ha, ok.. That makes sense to me.. I know exactly what that feels like..
99 times out of 100, that would be due to a lower back problem, probably a bulging or herniated disc ( I was a PT before I was a cop).
Recruiting at OU.
A few weeks of slower pace & fans are ready to fire people.
The great week always comes, patience Danielson.
So far sounds like all of the new staff; Simmons, Cooks, Reynolds and Riley are getting props from recruits and parents. Paying dividends off the field so far. Hope to see some major upgrades on the field in ..oh…about 33 more days a few hours.
G-Day minus 33
Lots of choices for this number. 2 AA’s from some of our seasoned OU veterans’ early days.
Joe Don Looney AA, Buddy Jones AA – Eddie Hinton – Auston English -Demond Parker
Joe Don Looney AA
Not much of a ‘career’ at OU stat-wise but contributed greatly to the OU football legacy.
Truly, Joe Don Looney was the definition of a ‘free spirit’.
The guy had an awesome story.
In the JDL context, “Free Spirit” = selfish jerk/team cancer.
Discipline was not his main strength. As I recall, he did finally get his life together.
Another guy, pre internet. How long would he have lasted at OU in today’s world? Not long. Just stating a fact.
Eddie Hinton
Auston English
https://youtu.be/L6MwgnRjj7k
Where’s our DE’s like English and Cody? Pressure and motor?
Dude was relentless. Played with attitude.
DeMond Parker. This guys was a bright shining star in a down time.
https://youtu.be/n7WaXpIdRAs
I have wondered what OU ’99 wouldve looked like had he came back for his Sr season(also wouldve had Q for 2003 most likely)
We probably would have won a game or two more in ’99, and if Q was around in 2003 and everything else had played out the same, we might have gone undefeated that year. Kejuan Jones was pretty good but not the electric RB that Q was.
No kidding. I saw my first OU vs Nebraska game in 1996. 73-21. But Parker then a freshman, showed up. 151 and three touchdowns. Wasn’t much else good to watch that day. Thank God for Demond Parker! Also saw him in person get 291 yards against Texass in 1997. Had a bogus holding call take back a long score that may have won it for us. 291 yards in the rain! That guy could scoot.
my favorite Trey Millard
Doh. How soon we forget.
* slaps forehead*
How could I forget the great Trey Millard. Loved that guy.
https://youtu.be/OnMmWYG0zlw
When he destroyed that poor Mizzou DB was one of my favorite plays
The texas where he jumps and trucks a dude at the same time is mine.
Oh yeah that’s one of the all time plays, but something about just blowing a guy up on the sideline makes me think football
Good point, watching a defender getting BLOWN-UP, never gets old. 😉
The ‘Jump/Truck’?
Oooooooooh YES!
I was at the K-State game where he put an exclamation point on the beatdown with a 61 yd run TD in the 4th quarter.
Lots of greats with that number once again. You are showing the younger brainiac followers just why OU does not (and really cannot) retire numbers!
Demond Parker is who immediately popped into my head. If only he hadn’t jumped to the NFL and been on the team in ’99. Think how much better we could’ve been.
Edit: I see I’m not the only one with that thought.
I wonder where his place in OU history wouldve been had he played 3 years for Bob instead of John Blake
Maybe top 10 backs OU has ever had. He was unreal. Still have my Demond Jersey. So sad what happened to his life..
If he’d just stayed for his senior year with BS we probably would have beaten ND, Ole miss and TT.
those dadgum ‘Horns too
Maybe. Didn’t we jump out ahead 17-0? Seems like we did, but I remember thinking that they were just better that year and we probably weren’t ready yet to beat them.
Yep jumped out to a big lead but then couldnt move the ball
I use this line of thinking when I think of how much better we would have been with Quentin Griffin in 2003, had he not had the need to pull his RS if Parker hadn’t left. Butterfly Effect
Agreed. It would have been great to have Q another full year. Others will flock to AD or Demarco, but I am of the opinion that the best all around back (running, catching, blocking, ball security) of the Stoops era was Q Griffin. Samaje might surpass that in time, but Q could do everything well. He wasn’t as fast or strong as AD, but he caught the ball better, and he protected the football better than any Stoops era back.
Was Patrick Collins also a 33?
He was. Nice call.
Yeppers. Proof positive.
https://youtu.be/z3Rndr6sxAI
screwing the cornheads in lincoln with time fleeting, the ou sidelines going nuts……….love it!!
Wonder who might be 32 tomorrow? hmm. A lot of choices from the past, but anyone recent?
I think current and future legends are available. 🙂
Gordon George
I know it’s been said many times many ways… Kish not pulling in Youngquist means other guys are kind of having to do his job (and theirs). That’s got to be a drain.
Not trying to be negative, that’s just got to be a fact.
Still, very happy we are on a roll. That’s gotta have everyone in the program juiced.
I don’t disagree totally BUT here is the deal. IF the coaches are together and realize or believe that Kish can coach, then help him recruit! I am okay with a staff that realizes its strengths and weaknesses and works together for a common goal. That is what they are supposed to be teaching their team! I think…I think Kish can coach but let some guys that can recruit come around him and recruit with him. Use Kish’s knowledge of the game in helping others game plan, to to help other guys create a way to teach guys a technique or scheme. If Kish can do his part then the others guys won’t see it as such a drain I THINK.
Fair point, perhaps he’s a better developer than a recruiter.
I tend to agree. Watching/waiting to see how getting some top kids impacts what Kish is able to do at the LB position. He might not be one of those guys with the engaging personality; takes longer to get to know him, but knows his stuff and can coach kids.
I agree I think people should give it a rest on the whole kish thing. Yeah he may not be the lead recruiter for his guys but obviously they like their position coach enough and the HC enough to buy in. Plus I know kj young transferred but kish did land him and Andrews which everyone was happy when we landed both of them.
Agreed. At this point this is something that should just be accepted. It gives us advantages in some areas while it can detract from others. Hope that’s a recipe for success in the future.
We’ll just judge the product on the field.
Wait how did I miss KJ young transferring!!! I really liked his game and thought he was beginning take some good steps last year.
Remember OU coaches recruit areas. Simmons has the West Coast correct? You can’t have position coaches only recruiting their positions, too much ground to cover.
I thought they recruit by area as much as by position. I have been very negative on Kish, but with the two new LB super-studs arriving in 2015 and Youngquist, he must be doing something correctly.
how on earth do you surmise that this is what’s happening? Does a hot recruit commit, even verbally, to a program with an AWOL position coach? No, they don’t.
Have we seen problems with Kish’s unit? Yes, we have.
We seem to have some new direction in coaching and certainly have some new life in recruiting.
Criticism is fine, but, Good Lord, blind negativity irks me.
I don’t think what I said could be characterized as “blind” negativity. I’m frustrated by Kish’s track record. I do give him credit as a coach, but as a recruiter he’s had mixed results at best. It’s just a point of frustration.
But it’s been said to death so we should just bury it.
My apologies.
Coaches have regional areas of responsibility. Kish has already landed a LB for 2016 in Jon-Michael Terry. Last year he landed McGinnis (Hulk). What are you talking about?
@disqus_lCb9y202zE:disqus @disqus_cItxT0Z8XC:disqus @cushcreekmont:disqus @disqus_miBD520dSk:disqus @jordanesco:disqus It would be kinda nice to see the areas that each coach is response for recruiting. More of a curiosity thing.
I wouldn’t know exactly. I know kish was considered a west coast recruiter. His area is Arizona and Cali I thought. Then guys like BB, mike and cooks are national guys. Riley and Simmons were brought in because of their ability in Texas but also Simmons ability in Cali.
Yeah that’s kinda of hard to pin down, I think overall they have area responsibilities, but I also think it’s pretty fluid depending on which coach has an established relationship with a kid.
I don’t know how the staff breaks these things down. It would be rally interesting to know. Great question.
I like Shurod Thompson, Lamar Jackson out of Cali would be a good get too. He has OU in his top schools, but I don’t think he’ll leave the west coast.
Would love to get those 2 DL, probably at the top of my shopping list. Course, Thompson, he be good too. 🙂 This could be a really, really good class. Much good news on the recruiting front lately. Thanks for all you do TFB.
Sorry if this question has already been posted this morning but Is the “good news next week” already happened or is there still some news out there that TFB hinted to last weekend on twitter?
hasn’t happened yet, but we’re still expecting something this week (at least as of me typing this).
Thank you as always for your rapid response and YIPPEE!
Yes! And thanks for your yeoman’s effort over the weekend. I was exhausted just reading it all. Actually having to chase stories and write about them…whew.
Demetric warren is good with his predictions so it’s strange that he’s the only one picking Kelly to Michigan. 20 others say ou.

Can I get an amen?!
Amen!
And can I get a hot tub?!
how ’bout a tub of melted butter?
That’s also acceptable.
’tis all I can offer

Hell yeah!
Miss this rivalry
Me too. Some of the best football games I have ever seen. Especially the comeback win in 2000 (Or was it 1999? The NC season.)
2000. The Woolfolk catch is what I remember most about that game. That, and rushing the field with thousands of fellow Sooner fans after the game. I still have a chunk of turf from that day in a plastic bag.
Oh, geez, I forgot about the Woolfolk catch. Lucky you to have been present. Amazing game. Amazing season.
Strait interception for me. I must say, that atmosphere was the most electric I’ve ever been around. Lost my voice that weekend for sure.
It was very electric but it was even more so in the Orange Bowl. In Norman, we had the majority of fans in the stadium. In the Orange Bowl we were probably 25-30% of the crowd but so much noise you’d think it was a home game but crazier.
You mean the Orange bowl for the National Championship? Wow, I thought that was the most stale atmosphere ever but it was probably where I was sitting. Of course at the end of the game when myself and my girl jumped over and got down by the presentation ceremony. That was pretty epic.
For me it was the Husker fan who sat behind me. When NU went up 14-0 he started saying the NU scout team was better than OU. He was gone by halftime as the tide turned dramatically in OU’s favor. Nothing better than seeing Husker and Horn fans head for the door at halftime not to return.
Agree!
A Husker fan was giving me crap when NU went up 14-0. He was saying the rout was on and stuff like that. I just told him we were spotting them 14 points out of respect for the rivalry and that they wouldn’t score the rest of the game. And they didn’t. 🙂
I miss this one more than any other. I miss having a rival we could actually respect.
They have good fans as does Wisconsin.
‘sconsin fans are delusional. Every interaction I’ve had has been less than charming. You would think they had at least 1 national title with all the chest puffing.
New ESPN 300 came out and Tramonda Moore showed up at #155. I know rankings aren’t everything but it’s nice to see the OK kid get some recognition.
ESecPN must have also gotten wind of Kelly committing to the good guys. He comes in at #62
This must be why his composite rating has him at like 26. He was top ten not too long ago.
I am surprised by that ranking for Moore. They saw Alabama offer and automatically had to rank him high
Could you imagine if they had a crystal ball feature like 247? LOL
Every 4 and 5 star recruit would be going to the sec or texas. Every one of them.
This is one of the reasons the rankings have to be taken with a very large grain of salt. They are based more on the reputation of those offering than any real evaluation of performance by those doing the ranking.
And their evaluations, for the most part, are based on camp performances. No lights. No pads.
yes………
No disrespect to Moore but the Bama offer was the first thing that jumped into my head as well.
Uh-hmm, Dustin. What are you doing here? Who’s watching Whaley? C’mon, man. That’s your only job! And you’re hanging out here, posting. LOL!
Where’s SoonerRay?
Some of us have to keep the world spinning so others can hang out on beaches and such. 🙂
I guess I deserved that.
You got WiFi in your tent?
Sure, if I bend the tin foil just right.
Who gave you tin foil?
Nothing new from Whaley. 😉 Ray is supposed to be camped out in the front yard just in case.
What’s up, Dustin? How’s life treating you?
Life is pretty grand right now, brother. Hopefully it’s the same for you.
LOL, by the way.
They must know OU is going to the SEC and buffing those local ratings in advance…
OU is going anywhere prior to 2025. I doubt we could stomach forfeiting our conferemce payouts for that long.
And if we ever leave, I still hope it’s to the PAC. Best destination games of them all. Seattle, Boulder, Salt Lake, Palo Alto, Tempe, Los Angeles, Berkeley, Corvallis, Eugene. Trips to hot humid dirty places like Baton Rouge, Starkville,College Station, Columbia (Mo or SC), Oxford, Auburn, Tuscaloosa, Athens…can’t get excited about much of the scenery in the SEC other than Knoxville or maybe Nashville.
East Lansing, Madison, Evanston, Champaign, Bloomington, Iowa City, College Park, Piscataway, Columbus, and West Lafayette would be an improvement over SEC destinationd, but still don’t compare well to the PAC. Colorado is beautiful. Washington is beautiful. Oregon is beautiful. Northern California is beautiful. I’ve never been to salt lake city but I hear it’s beautiful, and the other parts of Utah I have seen are beautiful. I lived in Alabama & Louisiana and glad to say I don’t live there any more. There are some fine people there, but they can have their states back.
guess that list doesn’t stress the academics…..
I think you should steer clear of taking shots at high school kids.
Amen.
Honestly, this board layout needs a HIDE button so we can choose posts we don’t even want to see.
Kick Rocks!!
Not cool Steph, not cool.
TFB, he always toes the line on the ban hammer but never quite crosses it. However, this goes against everything you guys stand for. If no hammer then at least start putting checks by his name when he says junk like this and once he hits enough, bye bye. This is old as it is but dogging the team, coaches is one thing. Dogging a HS kid is quite another.
2nd that. I look past his constant negativity and the steaming piles of troll droppings he leaves here but a line is crossed when you trash a hs kid. That comment needs to be deleted and the ban hammer dropped with a suspension for a few weeks.
Just skip over any of his posts. Any attention you give him inspires him to make more. If NOBODY replies tonhis stuff, he’ll quit posting.
I normally do, but this is a public site that recruits and their families can and do frequent. Last thing we need is for one Apple to spoil the fan base bunch. I can pass over the negativity and ridiculous commentary when it’s an overall view of the conference, program, coaches, and maybe even at times an active player, but a kid going into his senior year in HS? Too far. He needs to go.
If 99% of the posts are positive about a recruit and one dingleberry pulls that stunt of making an insult to a high school recruit, i would bet even the recruit thinks it’s an oSu fan or Texas fan trying to make us look bad. I think SDale is an oSu fan.
Who hurt you?
If OU gets C. Kelly, will he be the highest rated LB recruit since Ryan Reynolds?
when
I’m guessing we will know in the next week or so. Although I think he’s a lock regardless of when he commits but I have a good feeling kelly is the potential good news story this week.
I think he’s a good story, but not in the news. I am thinking both he and Whaley are silent commits, and we aren’t going to do the full celebration till January.
BTW, I’ve been watching offers; still no new RB offers. Good sign.
I’m going with this theory until someone shuts it down.
Caleb would be the highest rated LB commit since Chris Patterson (who never played at OU) with a .9884 (CK’s current ranking). Austin Box is the next with .9809 and RR with a .9797 and Ronnell Lewis with .9779.

Some rumors that JAckson and Thompson are a packaged deal
After all the worry about recruiting being slow, now I’m beginning to worry we fill up secondary before WVU and don’t have room for them. Could we even take 2 more safeties this year?
Need to have a bunch of already committed guys at the WVU game too.

who was he racing in that vine?
Big man gettin it! ready to see him on the field

Charles Tapper will go down as one of my favorite Sooners.
IMO tapper goes down as a disappointment if he doesn’t have a monster season.
Exactly as I pointed out above. He’s nothing compared to Dan Cody and English. Where’s the Jeremy Beals?
Lane/D, my statement has nothing to do with his performance. It’s about how he represents and embodies everything OU.
amen. most players and coaches make me proud to be a sooner. some fans on the other hand..
Wink! Wink!
Agree on that point. No question.
People on here will blame Kish.. Lol
If the D gets it’s MOJO on, I think you will see Tapper step up to his full potential. I think the D will be much improved and feel much better about themselves. Plus, I think the O will help them more (couldn’t help them much less than last season).
I agree. I think this year’s D-line will create 1:1 match ups. That will be good for Tapper.
I noticed Tapper drew two and sometimes three blockers on every play last year. Considering how OLs were focusing on making him a non factor it came as no surprise to me that he didn’t make many big plays.
He was a basketball player coming in, so my expectations of him were not that high. His potential was high, but his football IQ was low. He developed quickly under Shipp and I thought had moments of brilliance in ’13. I thought he took a step back last year like our entire defense did. I’m with you hoping for a monster season.
not sure, but wasn’t there some credible info last yr that he was dealing with the flare up of a health issue that affected his endurance or ability to play at a high level…..just my recollection
He was diagnosed with cycle cell for the first time just before last fall. I’m sure it shook him up and caused a subpar JR season, learning to pull himself whenever he felt exhausted. That said, and last season down–I expect this his last year he makes the big push to set up his pro prospects. He was well on his way until last season. He just needed to learn to play through it and when to take himself out.
So those 2 whole tackles he had in 2012 under Shipp impressed you more than the 49 and 37 he had after working with Monty? Interesting.
I agree that last year was a disappointment but two things I find curious. 1. He seems to put on too much weight in my opinion. 2. How much did his sickle have to do with that.
Nah. It’s all tied to that gurl cutting off his dreads.
I disagree with so many things here.
He had a great season as a Soph because he is an athletic freak, how he was deployed(Grissom drew all the attention on the other side) and the fact that teams hardly ever double teamed him. Go back and look at some vids from ’13 and ’14 as I have and notice how differently he was approached by offenses.
Then last year the alignment was different, Grissom moved to OLB and Tapper now known as a force was double and even triple teamed at times. The per rush avg. improved significantly from 2013, but his making sacks and tackles for loss declined.
I don’t know if the different alignment this year will change any of that, but he is still an athletic freak at 280+ and a 4.5 forty, he is a team leader and one that opposing offenses will account for.
Just landed in Austin, TFB family. It’s not my plan to de-commit but I heard Strong can poor on the charm. Ha! Ha!
North Carolina to N. Ohio, via Austin. Someone got on the wrong plane.
We drove nearly 12 hours back to Ohio, yesterday. I was up at 6am this morning to catch a flight to Austin, via Charlotte. Frequent flyer miles are piling up.
I wish I was still 39 and had the energy for that kind of schedule!
LOL!
I am driving back to Cleveland from OKC on Wednesday. I dread it! ouch.
You live in Cleveland?
Yep! Not too far from where Sam Grant’s parents live.
I’m about 35 miles below you.
Mansfield? Canton?
Akron
Then surely you have some insights on the Zips you can share.
Yep, I do. They are up and down. They took Meechigan to the brink a few years back. But that was because they had that QB who transferred from Colorado. They’ve not had much since. Their OL and DL are below average in the MAC, as they’ve not been able to compete for conference championships. The best recruits in the MAC are going to Toledo, BGSU (Bowling Green), NIU (Northern Illinois) and Western Michigan. Of the six MAC schools in Ohio, (BGSU, Kent State, Miami, Ohio, Toledo, and Akron, Akron is probably the fifth best team.
Akron is in a conference with the likes of UMass, Buffalo, Central, Western and Eastern Michigan, Ball State, NIU, Ball State, and Kent but they can’t win the conference.
They will look to pass more than they run.
When they played tOSU a few years ago, they kept it close in the first half. But I suspect this had nothing to do with Akron. tOSU probably didn’t press the issue. They are a combined 11-25 over the past three years. Are they capable of beating OU, yes. Do I think it will happen, no. This should be over by half time.
I hve not heard any talk about any superstars on the team, especially at the skill positions. Tyrek Hill was a only big name I remember but he’s not on the team anymore.
What area of town is your lodging in?
He’s staying on the liberal side. Oh, wait!
Oh…okay. :->
He can still use a limo to get places as long as he HATES those totally EVIL 1%ers! LOL Just ask Hollywood!
As long as he doesn’t wear patchouli, water walkers and ride a bicycle.
Funny stuff, right there. LOL!
North Austin, near I-35, off 183
That’s a good area.
The Omelettry is just a few minutes South of you. I recommend the Gingerbread pancakes slathered with butter and drenched in honey.

Wonder what that says about me for posting it? ?

And for me making it my new computer wallpaper
At least Ronda would get to go to the 2nd round, even if both rounds were only 30ish seconds or so…
Just a guess, is the good news this week Dalton Wood related?
Who was Neville racing?
Jamal Danley I think
yep it was Danley
John Humphreys says Jamal on twitter.
Yeah..you can actually click the instagram (click the name) above…Neville is YUNGPARLIMENT…and see the conversation btwn a few of the guys
Haha I’m gonna check that out!
So we’re a few weeks away from football. Last year there was some discussion for a fantasy football league but didn’t have it figured out in time. Is anyone still down?
Way ahead of you.

Man, I can’t wait for the season to start. Putting some money on OU to win the NC tomorrow. Did not do it in 2000, but not going to forget this time. BOOMER!!
Oh yeah, in Vegas!

So, Bryce says he is not going to be a big recruiter for Oklahoma?? FIRE KISH!! Lol! Glad to hear some positive feedback from a recruit about Kish.
LOL!
I like that the kid is all in with OU. I think he is one of those who sets an example with his actions, not words.
I hope he’ll recruit like Austin Kendall.
Note that he called the coaches on Thursday. I would say TFB has good sources!

I know this has probably been posted but I can’t wait to see perine on the field again. I think mixon will be great but there’s a chance he was all hype and if so I want to see perine touch the ball 30 times a game
Thanks for the link!!
We know what we have with Perine. Anytime he is on the field all eyes will be on him, which means lots of open receivers over the middle when the LBs and Safeties bite on the play action.
I’m also looking forward to seeing Mixon in action. No young RB in the nation reminds me of AD as much as him.
Another thing he has in common with AD is none of us have seen him play in college since he redshirted and didn’t partake in SG… I have a feeling it’ll be like a well breed racing quarter horse coming out of the gates much like it was with AD…I remember just abusing those guys in those early games and was …well can’t really describe the amazement and to see those guys on the sideline get pumped…hopefully we get just a sliver of that out of Mixon
Mixon will probably fumble his first hand off, I say put him under center for one or two plays to gain confidence.
Nah not really, If I had to look at all the OU running backs I have to think of two he reminds me of. Mike Gaddis and AD he has a AD running and juking style as well as a Mike G toughness but what really impresses me is his hands
We all have seen running backs out of high school who look good on film such as Ford but just have issues, to me not Joe.
He becomes a different animal when he puts on those cleats its almost like a transformation, another OU guy was the same way Gerald McCoy or even Tommie Harris.
I truly hope and pray we can put together a solid O line, if we can Mixon will get his numbers.
Here is a great video, ENJOY the future of OU for the next 4 years.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMwfde3r_KI
I agree about his hands, looking forward to seeing him coming out of the backfield as a receiver. His elusiveness and speed are no match by a LB and his size along with those attributes will have DBs that play against him wake up with “night terrors.”
I understand there is concern for the replacements on the OL, but I also realize how effective Bedenbaugh has been in getting the OL ready to play. I was impressed with how all the OL(except one) performed in the Spring game including Farniok, his footwork and body position were outstanding.
One thing I have noticed in Joe’s high school videos is the “reckless” nature of his running style, much like AD. So I do expect that he will be more prone to injury than some, but he is a high reward type of runner that has a lot of desire.
He’s bigger than I expected. I was kinda thinking Optimus was the inside guy and Joe was the outside/hands guy. But Joe can probably run up the middle, assuming he doesn’t get knocked down easily like someone who will remain unnamed.
Samaje is great , but i think Mixon is special, his elusiveness is unreal for a guy his size
I think so too but in the slight chance mixon is not that good, I want to see more perine
Perine reminds me of Earl Campbell … I mean that in the best way it can be taken.
Okie Lite and their helmet/uniform fetish, again.
http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/oklahoma-state-has-new–icy-white–pistol-pete-helmets–photo-191629064.html
The pistol Pete caricature truly looks like a molester/dude who drives a 70s drug van. Just my 2 cents
Funny.
My brother-in-law who is a Georgia Tech grad saw Pistol Pete and said he looked like a creepy pedophile.
You know, Im trying to be objective here and not automatically say I hate the OSU helmet but………I hate the OSU helmet lol
Well, when gimmicks are all you have going for you on a consistent basis….. Plus, you have to detract attention from the ONE, count ’em, ONE conf championship banner.
Question: Have TFB speculated about who they think the starting QB is going to be? What is TFB opinion about NewsOK speculation that “all signs point to Baker?” They reported that Lincoln R recruited Baker to EC when Baker was looking for a spot to land. Now they are both in Norman!
I believe they’ve stated in the spring is was Baker…then in summer it was neck and neck btwn Baker and TK with Cody closing on both …I suspect by week three of fall camp we will be a little closer to an answer and maybe go to the wire (hopefully with all three performing at a high level of course)
Two years ago everyone knew Blake Bell was going to be the starting QB, until Trevor Knight was announced the starter. At this point it is all speculation. The assumption is that Mayfield fits the scheme better, but I think the coaches really haven’t decided yet. They really are giving each guy his shot. There may be a leader in Riley’s mind but I am sure he is not communicating that to anyone. We will know for sure in 33 days.
Barring injury, Mayfield will start. The coaches know who their #1 is, but they’ll never say it so the QBs will continue to battle and improve.
Well I heard the same thing two years ago about Blake Bell, so pardon me if I don’t buy into the hype.
I have specualtion fatigue.
/see what i did
I think the tfb guys believe mayfield will start. Could be wrong but I think I’ve seen comments from them that they think mayfield will be the first guy to get a chance.
I’m saying Reece Clark: http://newsok.com/article/5437761
McGinnis.
Quincy Russell
Scott Bakula.
https://youtu.be/7v4YGFFx4g0
In the spring the general consensus seemed to be that it was Baker 1A, Knight 1B and Thomas 2, Baker having a slight lead as number 1. However, since then Baker Mayfield has come down with the dreaded Noodle Arm.
Has that given Knight the opening to make up ground? Will there be concern that Mayfield won’t make it through the season? Is he really injured and they just aren’t saying? Tune in next week at this time for “As the Quarterback Turns” to find out.
we invented it…
