Neville Gallimore Is A Sooner

Image via 247sports.com

Defensive line coach, Jerry Montgomery, has reeled in another top talent. 6’3 300+ lb defensive tackle, Neville Gallimore, has committed to the University of Oklahoma.

Gallimore chose Oklahoma over schools like Florida State, Ohio State, Oregon and a number of other top programs around the country.

Montgomery is on a hot streak right now. He landed Ricky DeBerry out of Virginia last month, beating out schools like Alabama and Tennessee. One of the great things Montgomery has been able to do as he wins commitments from these top athletes is to keep OU’s brand name circulating among the top athletes.

Congratulations Sooner fans!

YESSIR! Welcome Mr. Gallimore. Ridiculous haul by coach M.

  • HoustonChiver says:

Fantastic news, welcome to the Sooner Nation Gallimore!

  • lebval15 says:

That gives us 11 4 stars so far. We had 9 and 7 the past two years. Moving in the right direction.

  • Sam Philbeck says:

Neville has a slight resemblance to Gerald McCoy, hope his game does too! Great job Coach M and welcome Neville!

  • j l says:

big win on the trail, really needed this positive right now.

time to give monty a raise and an extension, gotta keep him as long as we can.

  • John Garner says:

Awesome! Simply awesome! Coach M is a stud. Best hire in years. Let’s hope we finish strong. That and some coaching changes could right the ship for 2015.

  • hemisooner says:

Stud. Now if we can get some LBs, dalton, Orr, Patterson, and stephens. That would be an impressive defensive haul.

  • AmaGoh7 says:

We need more Jerry Montgomery’s, Cale Gundy’s, Coach B’s, on the staff who are obsessed about recruiting, coaching, and playing with passion.
Great job reeling him in and others even with the negative out there.

    • Super Keith says:

They also seem to be pretty damn good at coaching the kids once they get to Norman.

Imagine that, coaches that can recruit AND coach. You’d think a program like OU would be loaded with those kinds of guys.

  • SoonerfanTU says:

    Never mind. Found my answer.

  • Tyler Cheek says:

    You the real MVP

  • Ryan says:

Ohhh beat out teams like Tennessee. Like they’re relevant. How about you say we beat out teams like Alabama and Ohio State for Deberry 😉

    • Ed Cotter says:

Tennessee has picked up some really nice defensive players this year in MacKenzie and Phillips. Don’t get it, but the Vols are hooking it up the last couple of years.

    • RBear says:

Article says “Montgomery is on a hot streak right now. He landed Ricky DeBerry out of Virginia last month, beating out schools like Alabama and Tennessee.”

    • Indy_sooner says:

Tennessee is very legit. I don’t know what koolaid Butch has them drinking but they have been landing very good recruits and are no slouch. Beating them for recruits is a big win
FYI- Pat Allen, the elite OT that decommited from Ga and is now considering Tenn and OU.

    • DCinAZ says:

Tennessee has been a recruiting powerhouse for years. Beating them in a recruiting battle is DEFINITELY a big deal.

  • blaster1371 says:

good job monty…now develop them into stone cold thumpers!

  • Won says:

Thank you coach Montgomery and TFB

  • Jackson1006 says:

What a great back story on Gallimore. Just like Haughton, a kind of young man that we want representing our alma mater.

On that note, McKee is not the answer at LB. Talented but his twitter account (and I don’t frequent twitter) is all wrong re: priorities.

Same for Ykili Ross who if I heard right said, “I will be spending the next 3 years” at USC. And I don’t think he meant early graduation academically. Want the best for the young men of course, but prioritizing those with obvious high character will hopefully pay dividends.

    • Ed Cotter says:

I know Ykili and he is not a cocky kid. I think he really just was nervous and slipped when he said 3 years. He is also a really smart kid……3.5gpa. Just sayin’.

      • Jackson1006 says:

Thanks for the info Ed. I don’t presume to know these kids, but it was a weird and perhaps telling statement is all. Go Sooners

        • Kuzi says:

Maybe that’s how the USC coaches sold it. Calipari sells the one and done to kids at Kentucky and it works out pretty well for him. I don’t have a problem with it personally IF he is good enough to make it in the NFL.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Very few of Cal’s kids are one and done.

          • hemisooner says:

Since he has been at kentucky, he might have more one and done than any one school

          • SoonerfanTU says:

True, but it still averages out to less than 1 per season I bet.

The Harrison twins were thought to maybe be one and done. They came back. Same with Dakari Johnson last year.

This year, Towns is the only “likely” one and done.

Just pointing out that while a lot of folks think UK is turning out multiple one and dones per year, it is really 1 or less.

          • hemisooner says:

Lets see they had two last year (randle and young). 2013 noel and goodwin. 2012 davis and teague.

          • hemisooner says:

Lets not forget john wall, demarcus cousins, daniel orton, and eric bledsoe his first year too. And brandon knight the following

      • Boom says:

Ed, know you been vested for sometime but for whatever reason, it never worked out for us to get a visit. I’m sure he was SC all the way but would’ve at least like to had him here for a game.

        • Daddy R says:

          a game..lol, not this season!

          • Boom says:

Talking about recruiting. He’s great player and be a huge addition to OU. I was talking about getting him to visit and it didn’t work out. Heck yea I would like to have him in crimson and cream.

          • Daddy R says:

Oh I know, I would like him here as well. I just meant visiting for a game this past season would have had a 50/50 shot at being really sucky..

          • Boom says:

            with ya

        • Ed Cotter says:

Yeah, would have liked to see him get to Norman. He had someof his buddies going as well. It is what it is.

      • Kuzi says:

In today’s twitter/24 hour news coverage world you better not misspeak because it will be blown way out of proportion.

    • Glocal Sooner says:

Jackson, I haven’t seen McKee’s twitter account. Not to gossip or talk bad about the guy but what types of things is he saying or implying to make you concerned about him? I’m with you, I want quality guys. Just curious what he’s saying.

      • Jackson1006 says:

Well I’ve only seen it twice. Once when he visited (and his cover picture was “boobs”) and then when wheeler went to UT b/c I was curious who was on the board. Content is something you would expect from someone who either is unaware at best of how some typical teenage but nevertheless tasteless content online will be seen by others. Again, I don’t know the kid or his circumstances so let me be clear that I am in no place to judge and I wish him the best. These are young men after all, and man I’ll be the first to say that had I grown up in the social media age, I would probably have been in hot water more than once 😉

  • CastorTroyBoy says:

I’m enthusiastic but I need to see more…I don’t know much about Monty other than he builds relationships but I want to see players playing up to their potential in a defense that allows them to make plays! Our defenses under Gary Gibbs were better than Anything I have seen thru the stoops regime! That has to change…I’m not going to “koolaid it” to please the mere sheep. I need to see the same commitment from everyone on this staff and team! But I will rejoice for today about Gallimore….

    • thebigdroot says:

“Anything I have seen thru the stoops regime!”
Uh. I think you might be a little bit overboard here. As of late I would agree but there has been some pretty damn good D’s while Stoops has been here.

    • Daddy R says:

      Gibbs is one helluva DC..

    • Kuzi says:

Your trolling schtick is really tired and overdone.

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

My post are not posted here to please…Merely to educate…If some should be pleased…fine. But that is not what my intentions are nor ever will be…Like the old saying “If you kill em’ they will not have learned nuthin..(Wild West Days)

      • hemisooner says:

He just brings a different perspective. Sure it might be negative but in some ways he is right. I thought our dline played very well this season. In the 3-4, DEs and the NG responsibilities are in the run game. Your pressure comes the LBs ( inside and out). Just look at dick lebeau’s defense. That’s how you run a 3-4 not like mike used it.

    • hemisooner says:

Different era of football, castor. The rules are geared toward offense now so i dont know what gibbs defense would do. I guess not very good. Right now we are in the damn old WAC conference and i hate it.

    • SamSooner says:

You remind me of a person who could win the lottery for $200 million and would complain because you didn’t win it from the week before when it was for $250 million.

      You are tiresome.

    • rphokc says:

I reluctantly agree, in part, with ctb………good for mont on busting his ass and closing on a couple of perceived studs and we need more……but we just finished a yr where the table was set in our favor for a playoff run with a lot of preseason bstoops/mstoops hype on the d and team in general and it turned into a 5 loss embarrassment …….these guys haven’t played a down and the same coaches are still here……..be wary of koolaid

      • CastorTroyBoy says:

rphokc, i concur.. I’m just cautious about going overboard. Mike Stoops has not as of yet been able to stop the run when it counted most. Remember the lsu game? We had Tommie”TheMan”Harris, Dusty, strait, wooolfolk, etc etc. we let lsu backs gash us, they did not score much but they got needed 1st downs in that conservative offense of theirs. People were tuning him out in 2003 that is one of the reason why he was quick to jump at the arizona job. I’m just wondering we’ll these guys play hard for 4 qts. for the guy? I have not seen that yet versus a team that will stand up to us….

    • PLAW0720 says:

And, didn’t Gibbs have like 15 fewer scholarship players.

  • eastoksooner says:

Can someone make a list of kids Monty is recruiting and recruited (commits)? Would be interesting to look at.

  • ohiosoonerdevildog says:

Definitely a huge get. Now if we could grab some lbs and another corner definitely a great class. Does anyone see us maybe going back to a 4-3 or maybe 4-2-5 with all the beef we have recruited at the dline position? Also any rumors on any other possible big committments?

    • Will Narramore says:

With some of the bigger safeties we have that don’t mind coming downhill I wouldnt mind a 4-2-5. Tapper, Romar, Wade, Walker on the line with Evans and Shannon or Alexander at LB. Striker playing off the edge and then Parker Sanchez J. Thomas, and Byrd in the secondary

    • Zack says:

I think we will go to a 4 man front within 2 years especially if Mike stays. I hope we add Campbell and neal to this class. Those 2 are monsters and look more like power forwards than football players.

  • Boom says:

Gallimore is big time so next up I hope is Campbell & Neal. Monty bringing the WOOD!!

  • CDC says:

Pushed us to the 17th rated recruiting class, unless you go by average rating per player, in which case OU is now ranked 6th.

  • rphokc says:

…..don’t remember for sure, but when I was a member on oui I think the first I heard of gallimore was on tfb……….in any event, thxs for your insider coverage on this player, et al

  • Tyler says:

I look forward to watching Gallimore play. I’ll never forget being on the same flight as him, after he visited, and noticing how big of a guy he is. I think he can be a stud with how quick and explosive he is

  • Austin says:

So I’m watching the Ou bball game and at the bottom of the screen espn is showing the notable commitments from the day, and of course the only one they aren’t showing is Gallimore to ou. I’ve come to the conclusion that espn hates ou.

  • Steve Johns says:

Neville reminds me of GK in appearance. Hope he plays like him too!

  • Dlee914 says:

A buddy of mine said he got a news alert that Mike Stoops met with Les Miles about becoming LSU’s DC. Im calling BS, just wondering if anybody else heard anything like that?

    • Daddy R says:

no effin way. I would be super, super shocked if that really took place.

      • Easton says:

        I would not be.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Why? Because you don’t think Mike Stoops is any good? Same way you probably didn’t think Venables was any good when he was at OU.

        • Daddy R says:

No, I think he’s alright.. but because he’d be working for Les, and LSU! And I loved venebles and his fire, just thought he may have needed some help.

      • OkieRandolph says:

My son is stationed at Ft Polk, Louisiana, and he called me about 4:15 saying he heard the news about Stoops down there. He’s a Sooner fan, but he’s not into chats, boards and football gossip, but did hear it on a local sports talk show out of Leesville, LA.

  • Dlee914 says:

I’ve learned OU Defensive Coordinator Mike Stoops is scheduled to interview for the same position at LSU with head coach Les Miles. Sources tell me it’s expected Stoops will be offered the job when the two meet in Dallas tonight at 6 p.m. If offered, Stoops would take a couple of days to make the decision whether to leave brother Bob’s staff, where he has served the last three seasons as associate head coach and defensive coordinator. http://www.news9.com/story/27753592/breaking-ous-mike-stoops-to-interview-with-les-miles-lsu

    • Easton says:

      Nice post, thanks D.

    • Sooner Ray says:

      I’m waiting for Dean’s percentage.

    • Easton says:

I think Mike could be better working for someone that is not his brother, and a good aggressive HC like Miles that has a similar mentality as Mike, I think.

    • rphokc says:

……fascinating……….I would think tiger fans would not be impressed……..thxs for post

    • Dlee914 says:

I think he might do much better in the SEC. Not near as much passing or spreads to deal with

    • CastorTroyBoy says:

If offered, Stoops would take a couple of days to make the decision whether to leave brother Bob’s staff??? Shoot….If I’m offered that position I’m on the next flight to Baton Rouge! He will have more talent in the secondary than OU will ever have here. Were not getting Db’s and safeties the caliber of Lsu, and before you folks go poppin’off on my post check the nfl and recruiting rankings and you’ll see for yourself!

  • Ricky34 says:

Also along with the coaching rumors, there is some rumblings that Jake Spavital might be interested in the OC position if that becomes available? Anyone hear that as well? Might be good considering he has ties to Tulsa and the K.Murray connection….

  • SoonerfanTU says:

So IF Mike Stoops leaves, what are some realistic options at DC for OU? MUCH easier to come up with options for OC should JH get booted or demoted, but DC is a lot trickier, especially with a lot of guys that would be high on my list having just taken new jobs (Shannon, Chavis, rumor of the UF DC ending up at Michigan).

I’d really hate to hire somebody without a proven track record, but we may have to.

    • Daddy R says:

Think Gary Patterson would take a demotion? Maybe “head coach in waiting position?” I know, I know. In a sarcastic mood.

    • rphokc says:

……here’s some ‘black humor’ for ya…….mikey takes the job, takes mont with him and leaves kish…….. gallimore and deberry flip to tigers………

  • ToatsMcGoats says:

If we could somehow keep Mike, I would want Nick Rapone as our secondary coach/co-DC. He’s with the Cardinals right now and in my opinion, they have one of the best secondaries in the league. He also has a lot of DC experience under his belt, even if it was with Deleware…

  • cush creekmont says:

Welcome sir! I hope you enjoy your time at OU as much as I did waaaaaaaaaaaay back when – deep in the last century.

  • hOUligan says:

Very excited about this kid and how well he moves for 300#. Him and Big ‘O’verton with DeBerry behind them and PJ and Haughton and Sunderland and… Just need to get at least 1 more top LB propect, McGinnis and or JSmith, and another CB and there will be some talent for whoever OUr DC is to work with.

    • SavageSoonerEsq says:

In his film he moves really good for a big guy. His change of direction & explosiveness are sick.

  • JrsySooner says:

Is Monty just a line coach or does he have DC potential. ..
Happy New Year from Turkey…..if not who do we go after when Mike leaves

    • EasTex says:

      Happy New Year to you.
From someone who knows what the definition of ‘ISIS’ is.

    • akryan says:

Hasn’t called a defense yet. I guess you never do anything until you do it, but I’m a little skittish about promoting a position coach to coordinator before he gets some experience at it somewhere else.

    • Sooner Ray says:

Happy New Year from God’s country!

  • akryan says:

He’s coming out of Canada. Does anyone know if their high school game is like the NFL or like the CFL. If it’s like the CFL, it’ll be interesting to see how he makes that transition. I guess scouts obviously think he’ll be fine, and it’s probably not that different for a DL, but it’s still interesting to think about.

  • Doobie74OU says:

Great commit by Monty here! I went crazy last night watching the ESPNU coverage of the OU basketball game. They kept showing the recruits from the Army game and never mentioned Gallimore once. Totally crazy! eSECpn drives me crazy! Some would say that is a short trip to drive me crazy!!! LOL! Loved this get and loved the OU basketball team win as well!
