Preseason All-Big 12 Team Announced

The Big 12 Conference announced their preseason All-Big 12 team, as voted on by the media, on Wednesday afternoon, which you can see in full here.
From an OU perspective, everyone you probably would have expected to make the team did so.

CB Zack Sanchez
WR Sterling Shepard
LB Eric Striker
OU’s five selections were tied for the second most (with TCU), only Baylor had more with seven players selected.
The preseason award winners were:
Offensive POY: QB Trevone Boykin (TCU)
Defensive POY: DE Shawn Oakman (Baylor)
Newcomer of the Year: RB Chris Carson (Ok State)
Didn’t really strike as there were any major glaring omissions and/or snubs, but feel free to take a look at the team as a whole and offer up your thoughts in the comments below.

Mixon will be offensive player of the year.
OU knows how to pound the ball fast, hard and deep into the opposition.

I dont know about Oakman being def POY. I think he’s a little overrated.

what we DO know about Oakman is he is a DIRTY PLAYER…..He intentionally hit TK ( already on the ground at the time ) and caused a concussion………..I hope the Baylor SOB tears up both knees…
Oh drat and I no longer have a parakeet. Preseason All-X polls used to be good for papering the bottom of the cage. Of course, now days I would have to print it off myself because it’s on the Internet.

I can see Mixon or Westbrook being Newcomer of the Year.
Given our pass first offense and the things we are hearing about him, I’ve already penciled Westbrook in as NotY. I just think he is going to light it up… especially with Shepherd getting so much attention and the mismatch that Andrews will present.
This All B12 team is bogus, all 22 position players should be Sooners, the K & P are not because OU will never punt or kick a FG. Alex Ross is where he belongs tho 🙂

Good, I always want to look out for the down trodden like kickers. They don’t get much respect.
Yeah that’s true, kickers are wasted players until they miss a few FGs
Yeah. Hunnicutt is the all time scoring leader for OU and he will probably only be remembered for the miss last year.

Nah, new rule is that OU has to place the ball at their own 35 for the other team. That way they have a chance of scoring with a long field goal.
Whew. Thank heavens they included Oakman on the list. Otherwise Waco would explode.
I think it’s especially funny when they bring up the box jumping deal with the 70lb dumbbells. I mean, it’s not like AD didn’t do the exact same thing . . . while being 8 in shorter
I want to see Samaje put a helmet right in his chest. On camera. In prime time. And then I want the replay to roll and roll and roll.
Yes, the box jumping thing is very stupid. It’s knee flexion with a short vertical. For a guy his size it shouldn’t be that impressive.
I hope we kick Baylol’s ass this year. If we lose to them 3 years in a row, I’m moving far, far away.

I think there was a lot of indecision on who should be Newcomer of the Year between Carson and Westbrook.
We have no linemen, either offensive or defensive, listed. That is disappointing and a bit scary.
