Report: OU Football Adds Non-Con Opponent For 2017 & 2022 Seasons

FB Schedules.com is reporting that Oklahoma has added two non-conference games with UTEP to be played during the 2017 and 2022 seasons, respectively. Both games will be played in Norman and are part of the three game agreement OU and UTEP signed a couple years back, which involved a 2-for-1 deal with OU getting two home games and the Miners getting one. You may recall the trip to El Paso the Sooners made back in 2012, struggling somewhat (OU led just 10-7 heading into the fourth quarter) before scoring a couple late(ish) touchdowns to eventually win 24-7.

Schedules are always subject to change, but at this time Oklahoma also has non-conference games scheduled with Ohio State (in Columbus) in 2017 and Nebraska (in Lincoln) in 2022.

Who knows, by then they may be a team who won’t hurt our strength of schedule.

Why UTEP? I’m thinking if we’re going to be throwing these smaller schools a bone like this, we should be doing it with in-State schools…..and I’m referring to Tulsa. I’m sure season ticket holders are ecstatic as the value of season tickets just went through the roof with this one. smh.

We play Tulsa plenty often enough, IMO. And not every game, or home game, can be a great one. I’ve been a season ticket holder for 15+ years. This series is fine with me.
