this is the 2nd most important thing I have ever written today…….texas SUCKS!!!

  • jmshake says:

Good for Dom Alexander. I wasn’t impressed with Dom or J. Evans when they first signed, but I’m glad to say they’ve both made me eat my words and have proven to be reliable linebackers and great Sooners. I hope Dom makes the team!

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He’s going to make the team. Considering Dom was thrown to the fire I was beyond impressed by his freshman performance.

      • jmshake says:

Oh yea I was a fan of his early, just not real excited when he was being recruited. I think he’ll do well in Cleveland.

  • Dick Bump says:

The Ringer article with Gus’ wife was interesting, not much delay between her brain and her mouth. Too much editing, Gus would probably say, “not enough editing”. I’m sure it was entertaining if you’re an Auburn fan.

  • Matt says:

Michigan has lost commitments from a 4* OG, a 4* DT, and a 5* athlete in the past two days. Any chance we jump on any of these guys?

    • Malicong says:

I doubt it at this point. Solomon is probably looking at staying closer to home in Georgia and I don’t seem him venturing outside the SEC.
Irvin is in about the same boat and is also from Georgia but there is more time with him since he is a 2018 guy.
Taylor is a long shot as well but IMO the only possibility of the 3. It looks like he is going Ohio St. He is also from Ohio.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Wow, I’m really shocked that ESPN is giving someone outside of the SEC the number 1 slot, especially at corner.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Wow, I’m really shocked that ESPN is giving someone outside of the SEC the number 1 slot, especially at corner.

    • SoonerFan92 says:

I’ve seen there are a lot of scouts that are high on the Desmond King kid out of Iowa. A ton of them thought he would have been the first DB taken in the draft if he would’ve declared last year. Thomas has to be in the top somewhere with every scout, though.

    • SamSooner says:

I can believe that. Thomas made the biggest performance leap from his freshman to sophomore year. He was a totally different player. Not just play on the field. He physically changed his body.

    • Soonerfan24 says:

      1. Jordan Thomas, Oklahoma*

      Grade: 91

Thomas tracks the ball well and routinely comes down with 50-50 balls. He
finished last season with five interceptions — one of which was
returned for a touchdown. He projects as an early-round pick because of
his combination of size (6-foot, 192 pounds), athletic ability and
instincts. But Thomas’ off-field decision making — two suspensions in 2015 and an arrest — deserves attention from teams.

      • Soonerfan24 says:

        10. Ahmad Thomas, Oklahoma

        Grade: 63

Thomas rarely gets caught out of position in zone coverage, and he has more
than enough range to cover a deep half. But his lack of top-end speed
raises concerns about his ability to play centerfield in the NFL. And
because of his undersized frame (6-foot, 215), Thomas has trouble
bringing down bigger players in the run game or after the catch.

      • bommer85 says:

Quick should continue to learn DB and redshirt since it sounds like Thomas will be gone for sure

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Love BStoops, but he is just being stubborn and truly dumb about using Mixon or Perine on kick offs. Losing Murray on returns cost us number freakin 8! Especially now with no Anderson! Perhaps he’s joking about Perine. but Mixon cannot be back there either. He is not fast enough.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

He let AD back to return kicks too

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I know returns are important, but NFL teams do not put it’s top RB or WR back there.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

No doubt. If its a big spot in a game and they need a return so be it but other than that i dont want those guys back there either

    • SamSooner says:

Hunter, I get it. It concerns me, too. But, we’ve got to make teams afraid to kickoff and punt to us. If this team is afforded great field position, can you imagine what the offense will look like, how much better the defense will be if teams don’t have a short field?

I’m all for it. If you play scared, you’ll get hurt.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Sam with all due respect, I don’t think the players will be playing scared. BS and Jay B are not on the field. There is a reason why you don’t see stars doing it in the NFL! Besides Mixon is really not a burner IMHO…at least Murray had 4.3 speed and cuts…

        • SamSooner says:

No, no: I didn’t mean to say that you think the players are playing scared. I’m talking about Bob. I think when Murray got hurt, Stoops philosophy changed. He became conservative. OU hasn’t really been that great returning kicks and PRs.

I think Stoops has said that he is willing to roll the dice. We like “Riverboat Bob”, right? We like it when he says I’m going for it. This is what I meant by “intangibles” yesterday: Bob is allowing his team to be more physical than he has in years. He’s letting them play, tackle and hit. He’s demanded that they are physical every play. The intangible: the players are laying it on the line and taking on the attitude of their Head Ball Coach.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Wait Sam two years ago Alex Ross was being talked about an All-American! Last year, it was the blocking and Ross’ attitude. So, have to disagree brother. Hey if you are okay with Perine and Adams as our 2nd stringer by seasons end ok.

          • SamSooner says:

Ross did not have any vision. He’s going to work out for someone. But to be honest, he’s a FB with speed. He should be playing FB.

I trust the coaches. If they think that these are the returners that give them the best chance at success, I’ll live with the outcome.

    • BoomSoonBri says:

Murray got hurt on an onside kick, not returning a kick.

    • Zach Evans says:

When watching Mixon, I agree he doesn’t look Brooks fast, but when the players were asked who the three fastest guys on the team, it was Brooks, Westbrook, and a mix of other guys, Mixon being the most common name mentioned..

    • soonerthunder says:

I’m not sure I can think of that many kick returners who have been injured and lost for the year. It’s all those other guys who get hit and aren’t expecting it. Kick off returns don’t bother me for the returner, it’s all the other guys on both sides of the return game who seem to get hurt.

One OU guy doesn’t “prove” it with me. I want to know how many Big 12 kick returners have been lost for the year returning kickoffs, or how many SEC kick off returners have been lost for the year returning kickoffs.

  • SamSooner says:

I have a busy day in front of me. I’m officially in lurk mode. Keep it lively and entertaining, as usual.

    • cush creekmont says:

      Get’er done Sam! We’ll forgive a one-day lurk.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Me too. I’m buried in dead databases that need recovery. Long frickin’ day ahead of me. At least this doesn’t suck as bad as Texsa. I’ve got that going for me.

      • SamSooner says:

That should always lift your spirit.

      • Ura Hogg says:

“At least this doesn’t suck as bad as texsa.” I think I also heard a guy saying that as he was riding on the back of a garbage truck.
No disrespect to our sanitation workers. You are appreciated.

        • Ura Hogg says:

And no disrespect to SoonerOracle. 🙂
I just think that’s a good line to remember no matter what a guy is mucking through.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Was reading up on Texsa QB situation and looks like coaches trust ole 18 wheeler more than the frosh. I really couldn’t care less I’m just so bored at Bella’s parents house lol.

    • SamSooner says:

I don’t think it will matter. Unfortunately, Strong has been painted into a corner: he can’t afford to give the keys to Buechele: lose today and win tomorrow. Strong doesn’t have that kind of time. Texas is going to take its lumps this year. They might play good on defense but they will need the offense to click.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

So who is the QB? The little guy Heard?

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

          No, the big buffoon Swoopes.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Well, he hurt us a lot with his feet. One thing they will not be able to pass the ball and win a game. Load up the box which MS didn’t do and force them to beat you throwing…

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I agree that has to be the plan, but they have a couple of burners at WR this year. Think UT will be boom or bust with the passing game as long as Swoopes is the starter, which surprises me. I really expected it to be Buechele, but maybe he isn’t ready just yet. I’d be shocked if he isn’t starting by game 2-3 though.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

From TFB’s scrimmage notes it appears Shane doesn’t react well to any amount of pressure. Should be interesting though.

          • Ura Hogg says:

“doesn’t react well to any amount of pressure…” reminds me of a certain favorite texsa QB by the name of Simms. lol
            Let’s hope the similarities continue.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

They have burners like Baylor…but if the ball can’t get to them accurately and on time…plus we can play 8 in the box with our DB talent this year.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I would love to see that.

          • Boom says:

We will leave our corners on an island to free up a man. If you can beat us throwing, then my hats off. Otherwise, we will stop the run IMO.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Lol, alright man. I’m actually hoping that’s what happens. It won’t, but I hope so.

          • Boom says:

I’ve lived in Texas for 30 years and you are so typical – it won’t. We played a lot of this last year so why wouldn’t we do again.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Believe it or not, I take being a typical Texan as a compliment lol. You’re not going 1 on 1 with Burt (13.91 100 hurdles), Duvernay (10.27 100m), and Johnson (6’6″) all day. That would be a very long day for you.

          • Boom says:

We went 1 on 1 with the dude from TCU and he’s a track star. Same with Bailor. Got to get the ball to them first. You guys definitely got some major speed with your WRs and an OC who knows how to use them.

          • soonerthunder says:

There’s track speed and football speed. Many times people close to those with better track speed don’t play football as well as the one with the slightly slower track speed. Else, why don’t coaches ONLY pick guys who are the fastest?

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Even if Swoopes starts against ND, don’t take that a sign of him being the season starter. Unless he plays like a Heisman, I’d fully expect Shane to start week 2, especially against a weaker opponent.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

So running a 2-4-5 wasn’t the smartest game plan against a team that can’t throw? 😉

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

LOL. One of the more horrible game plans on record. It seemed like he was thinking, “Texas sucks, so let’s experiment a bit and see how this works.”

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He saw what TCU was able to get away with the week before ( because of injuries ) and decided to duplicate that game plan.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

You can make that mistake if you want to…

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I know, it’s gets me giddy 🙂 I hope I’m completely wrong about believe strong will figure it out in time! I want to slaughter them!

      • SoonerinLondon says:

I think Strong is building a monster and am worried again this year. Fortunately, I have Houston, tOSU and TCU to worry about before then.

        • Scott says:

24-0 to Iowa st. Im never worried about our opponents. If OU shows some effort this year , OU will blow texsa out the building.

          • Oscar says:

yep. uterus players have had so many position coaches the last few years that theirs heads are spinning with instructions.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I doubt it. A rather HUGE problem with our team last year was a lack of offensive identity. Hell, we even switched schemes during the season. That hurt us bad. But from what I understand, everybody has bought into, and loves the new system. The OL loves the physicality of the ZBS, the RBs and WRs love the pace, and even Swoopes has been reported to have developed under the new simplified route tree. And on defense, yeah we got a new DB coach, but we’re running the same thing we ran last year, so it shouldn’t be a problem.

          • Oscar says:

            Oh please, who cares?

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I don’t understand the logic behind bringing up ISU but not the RRR. It’s almost like y’all blocked it from your memories… ?

        • SamSooner says:

Yes, he is. But he might not be around to see it. If it were me, I’d play Buechele, knowing I’m going to lose this year, while I’m grinning with glee of what it will be like next year.

Unfortunately, he won’t have the time. If he loses, he’s done.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Just like the Vols are building a monster?

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

His replacement will have plenty to work with

      • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Honestly, I doubt that would be the logic behind that decision. More than most pundits have us losing that game anyway, so I doubt it’s a matter of Strong being too afraid to lose to play a FR. If, in fact, Swoopes does start, I would think it’d be to see what ND is doing on D before he puts Shane in. Her essentially be using that as an opportunity to get a little extra prep for Shane. Remember, we have nothing to lose and everything to gain in this particular game. He’s not going to get fired for a week 1 L.

        • SamSooner says:

I see what you’re saying. But ND is going to be a physical team. I don’t think he’ll lose his job after one loss, but the boo-birds will start warming up early if the boys don’t put up a fight.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I fully expect us to compete. Barring unforeseen events, I seriously expect this to be a competitive game this time around. For once, we actually have an offense suitable for the Big12. But because of ND’s physicality, I think that’s why Charlie might want to start out whith Swoopes.

          • KJ1123 says:

I’m really interested to see how S.Gilberts offense works out. UT has the athletes, just needs someone who can run that attack. If Buchele is the guy, then UT could suprise some folks outside of the area.

          • Birddawg says:

Very interested indeed. This offensive system has not been paired with a defense as talented as UT. This could be a lethal combo between packaged RPOs O and a playmaking defense on the other side. The teams that ran this O system did not have the quality of players on the other side of the ball and they needed to score 40 to win.
TCU is really good but they still don’t get the playmakers on D that an OU or UT can pull in.
If this pans out for UT, it really could reshape the cfb landscape as far as this offense being used for the top programs in the country.
Everything in football is copy cat.

          • KJ1123 says:

Exactly, Charlie just following what we did with Linc, imagine the Red River being a shootout??? It’ll be nice to see both teams go in with zero loses, bring some much needed attention back to that game and away from the SEC. Speaking of which on ESPN CFB Live they were talking about both Hurts at Bama and Buchele at UT starting as freshmen, WHY did they only show highlights of the Bama kid during the whole segment??? I swear that network sucks donkey, you know what.

          • SamSooner says:

It would be beneficial if the administrators publicly support Strong. It would be a good business decision.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

It’s going to be marvelous 🙂

          • soonerthunder says:

I don’t want him to get fired. Personally, I’d like UT to get to about 9-4 and keep him. I think Bob can out recruit him TX. The longer they keep him the longer it is before UT gets a coach that’s real good imo.

However, having said all of that, I have friends who are on the UT team and very good friends with the whole family, and THEY tell me that the players have an “entitlement” attitude once they step on campus because of the atmosphere of the school and I think it might always be hard for UT to have a great, great football team b/c of it.

It’s like, “Hey, we’re the best football players in TX and TX produces the best football players in the world, and you shouldn’t be competing with us b/c we’re good. Don’t you know that?”

          • SamSooner says:

Wow! That’s an interesting take: texsa signees think they are the best of the best in the state of Texas.

        • Boom says:

Good points and makes a lot of sense. I could see Shane on the sidelines with either headphones or a coach letting him know whats going on and how to attack it. Again, good perspective.

    • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I heard no 18 will play WR!

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I don’t know who is number 18 but Heard ( kid who ran all over us last year ) will be switched to receiver and the big boy ( Swoopes ) will stay at QB. He’s the one who ran the belldozer package and they called it the “18 wheeler” package.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      Tyrone or is it Jarrod?

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Tyrone, believe it or not lol

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Didnt Charlie forget Tyrones name a year or two ago?

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

ND can score…I expect ND to crush them. LOL is right. He can’t hit a bison on the backside with a brass fiddle or something like that!

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well I’m laying less than a Field goal so I hope ND wins that game. I think they will be a really solid team.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yeah Swoopes the bigger guy. Can’t throw a pea in the ocean but is like VY.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Didnt Huepel recruit him pretty hard

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

Yeah when we were trying the read option nonsense.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

He was actually a 5 Star recruit heading into his SR year. We actually recruited him over JT Barrett… JT F***in Barrett… ?

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

He can run the ball, but he’s no Watson and I am over freaking joyed that he’s the QB.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

He’s not even comparable to Watson, maybe Heard if anybody, but Swoopes isn’t that type of QB. And like I said, even if he starts against ND, don’t expect him to get comfy in that spot.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Talk about a whiff for both schools

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Mack also declined to recruit Jameis Winston… He really lost his way near the end.

          • D Hunter Sanchez says:

We like you chiming in but it’s real close to game time…get my drift Boomer!

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

            I get it.

    • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Honestly, it’s one of those situations where it really doesn’t matter who starts, because both guys will play. No one knows for certain quite yet, but despite nearly every report having Shane ahead of Swoopes in just about every category but size and arm strength, there’s still rumors of the staff wanting to start with Swoopes. Then again, it could all be a big smoke screen to keep Brian Kelly from zeroing in on a single game plan. Quite honestly, I’m leaning toward the latter.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

I like how you said both will play, not that they can play…

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I wouldn’t doubt it at all. In the Baylor system you need a QB who can throw a 9 route and a slant route, that’s about it, plus be slightly mobile…. Either way I hope we bring pressure and make whoever is playing QB beat us rather than the two hosses you have in the backfield.

        • Unofficial Longhorn says:

If Shane is what he’s been billed to be (an accurate, decisive QB), I think he’ll be just fine in this system, especially with the amount of talent he has around him.

      • SamSooner says:

The one thing I’ve learned about Brian Kelly is that he’s going to do what he does best. I really don’t think he’s going to game plan based on who the QB is going to be. Nope, it’s going to be here’s what we do, now stop us if you can.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

          Interesting observation about Kelly.

          • SamSooner says:

He was the same way at Cincinnati. I remember when he brought his team into Norman and all he had was a QB and a receiver but he managed to keep it close until they ran out of gas.

      • Birddawg says:

I would start the freshmen. You already know what you’re getting out of the other two. It may be strongs last year. Strong has to see what the freshmen does on the field. Buchele might be a baller but the only way you know that is if you play him. Once you do play him, you stand behind him all the way.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I agree with you Birddawg. You can’t have those qbs worrying about being replaced after any potential mistakes. I say ride or die with the frosh! Lol

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Here’s the thing, I don’t think they’re worried about that. One good thing I can say about Swoopes is that he has an amazing team first attitude. He’s willing to play whatever role he needs to if it’ll help the team win. And everything I’ve heard about Shane says the same. I think throughout the season you’ll get more and more of Shane, and I think he’ll play most of the snaps against ND even if he doesn’t start.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

That’s the way I see it, too.

Strong has recruited like a superstar (plus had help from Bailor) and, if he can just get a serviceable QB, will have the program turned around by next year, IMHO.

I don’t like what I see there. He’s beaten us 2 of 3 (and arguably should have been 3 of 3) with total shyte on offense. What will he do with talent? It scares me.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

This is only his third year, so he 1-1 against ol Stoops. But I think since he’s severed his old loyalties and actually caught up with the rest of the conference on offense, we should be alright. Let’s not forget, Sterlin Gilbert has a penchant for quick turn arounds.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Good point. I forgot that ole yeller teeth got the victory in his last year. Ouch. That one really left a mark. I’d blocked it out.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Lmao… I don’t blame you. I’ve pretty much blocked out any game Chris Sims started agains OU.

          • SamSooner says:

It’s going to be fun talking football with you, Unofficial.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

This has easily been the longest off season of my life!

          • SamSooner says:

It was fast for me. I didn’t feel the hankering to watch a recorded game from last season. I can delete them now.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Well I’m glad you could lay off the ‘stuff’ because I’ve definitely watched every game we played last season at least 3x except the Akron game this off season lol.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

That was insane. What a deal with the devil, when you had a red-headed winner on the sidelines. I was thrilled that he rarely saw the field.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I can’t quantify my levels of pisseditude during that season.

          • Boom says:

You know I’m going to give you a shot every now and then so here it is for the day. How in the heck can you get 2 YOUNG OL on the Big 12 team? They’re to young. 😉

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

They were FR AAs last year.

          • Boom says:

but but, we’re young. My point is proven and they were very good players when they stepped on campus and that’s why some of the others may have transferred or accepted the role of depth. Good job of recruiting.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

Pardon me, but I’m lost. What was your point?

          • Boom says:

            you get it.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I’m not lying, I’m totally lost. I’m trying to keep up with like 8 convos right now.

          • Boom says:

You are positioning UT as being to young (excuse) and 17 will be the year. My point – Young players make up college football. Reason, if you are good, you’re gone after 3 years. If you are there for 4+, you may be phased out with a younger player or you have already transferred. You have 3 sophs who will be potential AA. Swoops is a JR or Sr and he will be replaced by a true freshman. Why? He’s better.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I wouldn’t use the word “scared” to describe how I feel, but I do agree with you. UT is closer to being really good then they are to be being bad. He gets decent QB play, they are a 7-8 win team, I think, at worst. He improving the defensive talent every year, and they’ve already had good defensive teams in the recent past. OU fans should know that better than anybody.

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I’m just hoping we can have a season that we can build on for next year. I would like to see where we’ll be with a full season of the V&S and a team of experienced veterans.

        • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I’m completely with you, I’d go with Shane too. But what I think people are leaving out is that Shane is still going to play. No matter who starts, both will play, so it really doesn’t matter who starts.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

It definitely matters to the people writing the checks….

          • Unofficial Longhorn says:

I’ll take a coach that goes with his gut over the ever changing feelings of boosters any day of the week. And let’s be honest, the money ain’t going anywhere. And once we actually win a few games, those voices will fall silent.

  • OUn8v says:

Can any of you fine folks give me your opinion on the Sooner Sports TV package? TIA

    • Tony B says:

Jordan and I were talking about it this morning on twitter. I am cable free (except roku) so I don’t get Fox Sports SW and miss the coaches show and other things that may be a premium on SoonerSports so I still subscribe during the season only. It’s also a good source to watch the game over again relatively quickly. There are a few shows on there that are worth it but now that replays are more readily accessible via the internet it is becoming more an more of something that I go to less and less. I’ll still subscribe this year but I’m not sure after that. If you have Fox SW available I’d say not worth it but if you don’t I’d say you’ll get your $10 a month out of it.

    • ouwooferman says:

If you have access to Foxsports OK it is much more robust than Fxsw. Many more shows/ repeats. I am in houston and cant get Fxok. But the show line up is view-able and it irritates me that Dish and Direct wont let me get it for a $$.

IF you can record it via FXSW then it would about equal to FXOk.

  • Daryl says:

Can anyone tell me who it is that spends $350 on head phones. I love the concept of Clayton’s headphones but man they are not cheap.

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

A lot of people, hence the reason Dre Beats sold for what, $450 million?

      • Katyboomer says:

Beats are a social status ( with kids mostly) is why they did and have done so well. I have a pretty much the complete line of beats in my house hold. I think some are better then others. I think Clayton will have a little difficulty with his selling point. I wish him all the best and hope he does well.

        • Boom says:

I hope he becomes a billionaire and then give OU a ton a cash. 😉

        • Drew says:

Yeah, most headphones today (especially Beats) are more about status and style than audio quality. I got a nice pair two and a half years ago for under a $100 that’s significantly better than anything Beats makes, and they’re still going strong. I’m not an audiophile by any means, but if you’re actually interested in audio quality, a quick google search should be more than enough to find a better value than beats.

        • jimintexas says:

I agree that it appears to be social status. I am an old guy and when I was bought my headphones, I tried to perform enough research to make it a more logical solution. I went with Sennheiser and don’t regret it a bit. But, I am not going to buy a house full of headphones, either.

    • Boom says:

I think it’s awesome and if they stay on and work better, he’s going to kill it. $350 is not a bad price.

      • CrimsonNative says:

Yeah, Beats headphones are right around that same price point and they are garbage. So, if these work as advertised, he should do pretty well.

        • CcrBoomer says:

I never could understand the Beats craze when you could buy AKG K-44 at guitar center for 100$. Although the akg are bulkier you do get studio sound quality

          • CrimsonNative says:

Exactly! You can get far better quality for much less. I think it just comes down to what Katyboomer said, “it’s a social status item.”

          • CcrBoomer says:

I agree. I have 2 son’s that have beats. But always asking to use my akg’s for their laptop’s

          • Birddawg says:

I didn’t understand buying $300 neck warmers either.
Sennheiser’s have been the leader of music producing quality for the ears for decades.

          • Dick Bump says:

For me, between old ears and MP3 audio, anything over $100 is a waste.

    • SamSooner says:

You have to consider the value they bring, what people are looking for in a headset when they are exercising. It sounds like Clayton has solved a problem from personal experience. He’s solved what he think is a gap in the technology. You have to like that. I’ve always believed that if you’re sitting at the dinner table and say “these are great but wouldn’t it be nice if…” that you should get up and run with your idea.

    • Rob says:

I don’t want to be a debbie downer here but Clayton has been working on this idea for several years. Technology is going to outpace his idea and the big companies can easily close any feature gap he may have identified. There isn’t anything there to patent so I’m not sure he will get any traction.

      • Drew says:

Well, he did actually file a patent, so he has some leverage there. If they catch on, worst case scenario is Nike or UA or Beats writes him a 7 or 8 figure check rather than doing their own R&D.

    • David Luc says:

While Stax is only marginally involved in mobile phones, I’m posting this just to give an idea of the market scale for high end audio gear.
      https://www.staxusa.com/earspeaker/
Sennheiser, AKG and a few others will also sell you HP’s in this price range – and sell them they do.

  • SoonerFan92 says:

    https://twitter.com/OU_Football/status/768450117787541505

Not sure if the full video has been posted yet or not, but I sure wouldn’t mind him having a double digit sack season like Big Orlando predicted in the video!!

    • SoonerfanTU says:

This is one of the biggest questions on D for me. I think we’ll get adequate play out of the LB’s in terms of stopping the run, and in pass coverage. The question is, will we be able to get pressure when they blitz like we did last year? Will we have to blitz more guys to get to the QB? Be interesting to see how that plays out with Striker and Bond gone.

      • SoonerFan92 says:

I’m honestly more excited to see Obo play this year than anyone else. I think that he will have a great season when rushing the passer. Him keeping outside containment is what I’m going to be watching closely. If he can keep the runner to his inside then he will do great. Gallimore is the other player that I’m excited to watch.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

Just my opinion, but I think Obo will not have an issue with getting after the QB. His problem tends to be assignment based which would hurt more in run stopping and coverage. He has been known to be in the wrong spot giving up long run plays.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

That’s certainly been his history. He seems to bite on the zone read. Hopefully, he’s past that now.

        • BleedCrimson says:

Good thing is that he has had a full year to work on getting to know his position.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Based on the practice reports, it sounds like a defensive front has the potential to be very disruptive this season. When you can penetrate up the middle, the outside pressure feasts.

  • CrimsonNative says:

You know, I haven’t seen near as many comments regarding “concern” for coach Thib’s as I have in years past with new D-line coaches. We all seem to be pretty confident in his abilities to coach these kids up.

    • ouwooferman says:

classic love affair with most new coaches. True colors will be revealed once the love affair wears off (reads as season progresses).

    • Amayetli says:

I am surprised too, my brother has worked with him on camps and such, and says the offers he made at TU, (brother a HS coach, so workouts and so forth) he apparently still the same guy and people really like him.

      But I do miss Monty.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I questioned his credentials when he was first hired. Wasn’t sure he was ready for the big time. But once he was hired no reason to not trust Bob and give him a chance to prove himself.

  • Daniel Ruffo says:

Have any of my fellow TFB people seen this ESPN the Magazine issue?

  • SamSooner says:

I refuse to worry about anything that hasn’t happened. I don’t know. You don’t know. Nobody knows. At this point, all the players can do is prepare. Let’s wait and see what happens.

I refuse to worry about anything after it happens. Only the things that are correctible deserve my attention. If I can fix it, worry about it. If I can’t, don’t worry about it.

    I refuse to worry, ever.

  • metzker says:

Something that needs more discussion today is texsa SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • CWFosh says:

So Ohio State fans are not messing around. Apparently they are going to be here in the masses and ready to party. They rented out Seven47 on Friday night for a closed buckeye party. They also rented out the ENTIRE LLOYD NOBLE CENTER for their pre game party on 9/17 in Norman.
Closest thing that rivals this is Oregon in 04.

  • j l says:

Mixon on KO returns? ehhh. Brooks maybe, but not mixon.

    • Ura Hogg says:

With Mixon I normally would agree with you except for the fact that he may well be gone after this year. That being the case, with his skill set give him as many touches as possible including KO returns. I would love to see him be able to fulfill some of his potential while still wearing the crimson and cream.

      • j l says:

If anderson wasnt hurt, id agree. Thats a lot to ask of adams if mixon gets hurt though.

        • Ura Hogg says:

Maybe so, I just think if this is going to be a NC run, you gotta roll the dice somewhere along the way to get your best talent on the field as much as possible.

          • j l says:

I dont disagree with that. Maybe go with baxter for the 1st 2 games though, and if he cant get you the results you need, maybe toss mixon in there for the ohio state game.

Gambles are ok, but they need to be calculated.

  • soonermusic says:

I assume the “first game is ppv” will not be happening this year? They couldn’t get away with that for Houson game. Must be moving ppv to lower profile game two?

  • Scott says:

I wish OU had a all white alternate uniform.

  • Walter Sobcek says:

I like what I read about Wren. Good kid, hard worker. Hope he gets a chance to make his mark.

    • Canada_KB says:

I love the call to go for 2 points and the win usually, but this was such a terrible decision from Patterson. I went nuts when Parker made the play. He’s gonna be huge this year.

      • Boom says:

From the 1st half to the 2nd half melt down, it should’ve never come to this one play or decision.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

          TKPK6.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

TK9 missed so many chances to keep drives alive oh and threw a terrible INT too

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Love the kid but that was one of the worst, most embarrassing performances I have ever seen by a D1 QB.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah it was prett bad. Good luck to him at Aggieville

          • Boom says:

Well, he didn’t play well but he threw several good passes that were flat dropped for 1st downs. A lot of players played poorly in 2nd half.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Ill have to re-watch the 2nd half because what i remember is him missing some very easy throws badly.

I mean should be easy for a D1 guy especially at OU or the like

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Unfortunately, this is true. He looked like a high school guy, not even a college freshman…or maybe someone who didn’t actually play football.

            It was head-shakingly bad.

          • Boom says:

It’s what you call scrambled eggs. His mind was fried and the two were not working together. It’s like watching a golfer choke, the body does some weird stuff when you choke. It’s uncontrollable.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

            The Van De Velde

          • Boom says:

Exactly. You try but the muscles tighten and you can’t control it. I’ve seen it in golf and it’s happened to me too. No one is immune to it which is why there are sports psychologist’s.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

            OU second quarter vs USC

          • Boom says:

No doubt. He threw some short throws so hard that even Shepherd even dropped one and just stared at Trevor. C’mon bro, I’m 10 yards from you – don’t throw it 100mph.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

I do remember seeing Lincoln Riley with a look of “sigh, are you serious”

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Everyone in the stadium had that look…even Patterson.

          • Boom says:

Riley couldn’t believe what was happening as he was giving him plays for easy pass completions. It was just one of those days.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Yeah but they won inspite of that

          • CcrBoomer says:

Kid needed a Valium before the game. TK was a great practice player but just got to amped before games

          • SoonerinLondon says:

He had a very bad “tightening sphincter” problem.

          • Boom says:

You make a great point. There is a major difference between a practice player and a game player especially at QB. They know what they can do in practice cause due to doing it over and over. Game is totally different animal and causes bad decisions.

          • CcrBoomer says:

It’s the only thing that make sense from the Sugar Bowl. I think a Bama fan spiked his drink with a downer, and it back fired and just brought TK into chill mode.

        • Scott says:

The game would’ve been a blowout if Baker played in the 2nd half.

        • SoonerMagic76 says:

Couldn’t believe he did it. With how poorly we played the second half, he should have taken it to OT and let fate decide it. If it had gone to OT, and someone had asked me to put money on who wins, I’d have had to say TCU

    • Sith Lawd says:

I was in the section right by where that play happened. The stadium went absolutely WILD! Definitely my favorite memory from an OU game (and I was at the Samaje Perine vs. Kansas game).

  • Jofield says:

In nickel packages Jordan Evans is our smallest starting linebacker at 235 (with Tay and Obo). Remember where our linebacker corps was 3-4 years ago and… let… that… sink… in.

    • Ura Hogg says:

That should help slow down some RBs. Bring the boom and lessen those missed tackles!

    • Defend Colfax says:

      Tavon Austin remembers.

      • Ura Hogg says:

Ouch! Very painful memory that one!

        • Defend Colfax says:

That one was hard to watch. I honestly remember watching and not even worried about the outcome because it was just terrible football. Glad we won though.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

LJ was money. Austin was frightening.

          • Defend Colfax says:

Lol. He was Landry I dunno about magnificent but we won and he threw it a lot.I guess I’m just not a big fan of that style of play.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

            Landry Jones 38/51 554 10.9 6TD 1INT 95.8QBR

          • Defend Colfax says:

Exactly. I’m not a fan of throwing it 50+ times. This game was one where Landry did actually score touchdowns which is nice because all we had was the pass and I hated not scoring. You know your offense is a disappointment when you’re mad at the kicker.

Really hoping for a true return game this year. If we get some real help in our returns that will make our offense much more dangerous.
