FOOTBALL (FREE)

Ohio St. game is a sellout. I mean you had to figure this was simply an inevitability, right? Regardless, OU made it “official” yesterday.

Real talk.

BOOMER!!! Good morning, fellow Brainiacs!! Thank you for early news!

  • leatherneck1061 says:

Excited but still a little uneasy about the Ohio St. game. Predictions are all over the place. Here’s hoping Bob can even the score with Urban instead of going 0 for 2.

Top of the morning everyone, I’m all in for heading to the SEC or Big 10 but can we agree not to take Okla State with us! Boomer!!

    • Cush Creekmont says:

‘Lectric – Howdy. I’d take a fat pig and an ugly dog just to get out of this Cluster…

    • DR LEO MARVIN says:

Yes no Okie Light now if we add Houston and Byu i’m good with staying.

      • metzker says:

        Nope, get the F out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

        • DR LEO MARVIN says:

SEC Big ten no pac12 I don’t want games at midnight our time.

          • shawnee sooner says:

Big 10?? seriously? look at Nebraskas home slate this year and tell me you would be excited about any of those games.

      • SoonerfanTU says:

Yep. Feel sad for those that can’t find reasons why it would be best to stay in the Big 12.

        • D Hunter Sanchez says:

If it’s BYU and Houston, it’ll be the best they could do. I can go with it. But how do you split divisions? I’d rather not have a split. Top two teams play in the Big 12 title game…even if it’s a rematch. This will avoid problems like the SEC has with a dominant West team facing a 3 loss East team.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Can’t have 12 teams and not have divisions. We aren’t going to play an 11 game conference schedule.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

Need to add four teams. All conferences will eventually have 16, might as well start laying the groundwork.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

The question is, of the available teams, who adds value to the Big XII? You don’t add just to add. Sorry, not a shot at you and don’t mean it to sound that way.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I think just about anybody that has been mentioned adds value on some level. Just like Maryland and Rutgers added value for the Big 10. Or Mizzou added value for the SEC. Or Colorado and Utah added value to the PAC.

Who adds the MOST value? No idea. That question isn’t as simple as who has the best football program today. I think we can all agree that if we can make the uniqueness of BYU work, they probably bring the most to the table. If the coaches and AD’s don’t think Houston will dilute the Texas talent, they probably make a lot of sense. I’ve long wanted Cincinnati, and Memphis along side them makes a lot of sense.

UCONN has a good market, but doesn’t really fit location-wise.

          • leatherneck1061 says:

The problem as I see it is the B12 has been so blind and so slow to act that we are left with scraps. The B1G, Pac 12, and SEC all added legit P5 squads to their membership (largely at our expense) while the B12 failed to be proactive in any meaningful way, and as a result there are only lower tier teams left to choose from. It’s like the B12 has become the JV league. BYU and Houston are competitive teams that would at least add to the competition of the league, but I just think in the long term OU would be much better served by joining the SEC. The B12 is dying and has been for years, and I don’t think we can continue to live in denial for ever. If it’s dead, bury it and move on.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

No, I understand. Legit question. But I really feel like BYU and Cincy add immediate value, and Memphis (and perhaps Colorado St?) are good long- term prospects. Memphis is a great road trip for the fans, and expands recruiting into sec country. Plus, Fred Smith has ‘expressed’ a possible willingness to open up his wallet if the Tigers get into the Big 12- and look what Phil Knight did for Oregon.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

I think that BYU, Houston and Cincy bring the most to the table. The only issues I have (and I know my opinion doesn’t mean squat) is BYU and their unwillingness to play/travel on Sunday. Houston makes sense because of proximity but then we have a quasi-SWC again. Memphis can make the same proximity claim but they bring very little to the table — and probably even less now that Fuente and Lynch are gone. USC/UCF add a fertile recruiting ground but can you imagine the baseball team having to travel that far for a two/three game set? UCONN, well they have women’s basketball. Just my two cents.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

          • Daniel Ruffo says:

I agree, SoonerfanTU. Why can’t we have a simple, random, round-robin each year, with OU playing Texas and Oklahoma State every year. Some years OU doesn’t play Kansas, some years they don’t play TCU.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

I think OU and Texas should only play once a year. The Red River Rivarly (Rumble) is its own championship, and shouldn’t be diluted with a second game. I agree, we don’t want the inbalance of the sec, so maybe send TCU to the North, and send Kansas to South.

      • Walter Sobcek says:

Here! Here! The Great Plains rules! Wish no part of the sec or the Big Freeze 10.

Texsa with Nebbish would be interesting – in particular if officials cheat AGAINST texsa for the first time since the battle of the Alamo. I think the BI6 should cheat texsa if they take them, just to give them a dose of reality saying “you ain’t the big damn dog any longer – you’ve always dished it. Can you take it?”

And now the Governor of Texas >demands< that Houston be added to the BigXII. This alone sums up the intent and vision of the state at large regarding the neo-SWC and the auxilliary schools that comprise the Big 12-2.

  • AltoidSooner says:

Perine/Mixon behind Brown at LT will be unstoppable. CANT WAIT!

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Samia is a hoss too. I’d love to see Evans take charge of that RT spot so we can slide that athletic beast Samia inside. He reminds of me of the Cowboys Zach Martin. Zach played LT at ND then the Cowboys slid him inside and he’s been a total monster. I’m just glad we won’t have charmin ultra soft trying to pave the way for Samaje and Joe.

      • Sooner4life says:

If this is to happen, does Samia go to LG to be over there with Brown or stay on the right?

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

If it’s up to me then I’d leave him at RG that way the line is somewhat balanced between the 3 we bring back. We need a nasty dude next to brown then have that right side of the line super athletic with Evans and Samia. Like other people have said on here; Samia, Brown and Alvarez are locks for starting spots. Brown is a lock at LT and Alvarez is a lock at C so I think whoever steps up in the other spots is how we’ll place Samia. If a RT steps up then we slide him inside and if a guard steps up then I assume we leave him at tackle. Having flexibility will be nice. I just want at least two guys on the sideline who will be ready to step up at any given moment.

    • Walter Sobcek says:

Throw in a little Rodney Anderson for good measure. Three-headed monster

TGIF, 47! Just one week away from the big BBQ. Hoping for a B??M big enough to spray that ‘que all the way to the Lou!

Maybe I could get permission from the mod’s to be a reporter for a day and get into that BBQ. I could do interviews of all the talent and maybe get some insider info. Maybe hand out some free “BOOM” shirts.

        • StL Sooner says:

I’ll nominate you. Now go round up enough votes to carry that motion. All I ask is that you send me a rib and some brisket ?βšͺ️

          • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Just one rib? With all the BIG guys going to be at this BBQ there may not even be enough for them!!!

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Really sad watching Rod slowly whither away. Knew several people in his family

He’s still the best player ever from my hometown and Spiros had a few

      • BleedCrimson says:

Yep! Was a great player! I remember watching him play a couple of times in HS, I graduated from Pocola in 81.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Class of 97 myself. Lived in Pocola for 5 years or so my Sis still lives there

    • Walter Sobcek says:

      Rod Shoate was tremendous.

    • cush creekmont says:

THE BEST LB EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The all-star, all-time group would have some amazingly good backups… But I think the top 3 are: 43, 44, and 28.

      • Boom says:

Can’t leave out 85, that guy dominated. Shoat changed the LB position in college football. Period. It went from big guys who couldn’t run that fast to a very fast LB who could hold his own. Like I said, Shoat started the modern LB position.

    • Oscar says:

So, maybe expansion is a smoke screen to bolt the Big 12? Could be, but I would think it is a legitimate attempt to stay relevant.

      • OohRah Mama says:

I speak with SEC fans constantly during business conferences, and in 5 years they’ve all said a) the SEC wants Oklahoma, and b) the SEC doesn’t want Texas.

        C) They don’t want OK State, either.

  • j l says:

Prayers for ok state. They have endured a lot of tradegy, especially their basketball program.
