BOOMER!!!! Apparently it ruffles some feathers but I’m going to do it anyway — good morning, fellow Brainiacs!!

  • Alwaysasooner says:

As loaded as this running back class is gonna be going into nfl may b good for perine and mixon to stay another year.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all

    • Birddawg says:

I love this play… Mixon stands out for obv reasons
but Baker on the pancake and weakside WR in Sterling both making blocks on the cut back.. that’s awesome!

  • ouwooferman says:

Latest Bailer news. WACO, Texas (AP) — Three more women have joined a federal lawsuit against Baylor University accusing the school of doing nothing to help them after they reported being sexually assaulted on or near campus.

The former Baylor students are identified only as Jane Doe. On Tuesday, they joined a lawsuit filed by three other women on June 15. They claim sexual assaults dating from 2005 to 2014.

    • Malicong says:

Starting to look like Briles was only part of the problem and the BOR has known there was a problem for a while.

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Top of the morning everyone, time to get this day Amped up! BOOMER!!

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Good morning fellow Brainiacs!!!! “It is a great day to be a SOONER” Quick? If and it might be a big if, but say Perine and Mixon both come back for another year. How will this affect the plan of the future recruits at the RB position?

    • SoonerMagic76 says:

Keeping Baker and getting Murray from A&M didn’t seem to hurt QB recruiting, hopefully the RB position doesn’t take a hit

    • MoJoOkie says:

Brooks got some time last season, and there have been times when, even with Perine and Mixon healthy, a fresh set of legs have helped. Too many times I’ve seen second teamers transfer in frustration, only to find they would have gotten plenty of playing time if they stayed. If sitting the bench doesn’t suit you, be better than the guy on the field.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Compete and give it your all. And hope that the coaches take notice. That is what the coaches are looking for is the player who gives them the best opportunity to win. Because at the end of the day it all comes back to one thing, and that is getting the W!!!

Off topic, but when MySpace was cool this was my background for the longest time. I also had that Malcolm Kelly freestyle on my page! Man, those were the days.

  • LottsSocks says:

How many wins must Charlie Strong to show improvement to the admin and fans? Because WINNING apparently don’t mean much to their signees. 7 or 8?

    • MoJoOkie says:

I’d say 7 or 8 will “show improvement”. He’s getting it done recruiting and beating OU doesn’t hurt. If we crush him this season and he wins 7 it could be over. Who knows, they are never really as successful in real life as they are in their minds.

    • Malicong says:

Would have to be at least 7, IMO. Another .500 record or below and he is gone. To really show they are making strides, they need 8 or more. I don’t see more than 8, but they could always surprise.

      • LottsSocks says:

As much as I hate Notre Dame I would love to see them crush Texsa BYU-style at DKR to set the tone for their season.

        • Birddawg says:

I like NDs chances they have been very good under B.Kelly.
ND will come in ranked in top 20 for sure..
We will see how far Texsa has come under their new Offensive system.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

For what it’s worth they looked awful in their spring game. Their offense looked like a way worse version of Baylor’s and even Tulsa for that matter. I love shorthorns thinks that because Tulsa torched us ( once down by 21 ) that means Texsa will torch us. They fail to realize we had a true freshman corner going against a 6’4 monster who was also a senior. Ugh I wanna beat them so by so much!!!

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

They’ve lost Robinson(WR) and Elmer(OL) to concussions. Both are huge losses, especially considering ND lost all of their receiver production from last year except Robinson.

          • Birddawg says:

IMO PJ played pretty good for his first start. He had some technique errors…For the most part he was on the guys hip.. and was def thrown into the fire. I was actually mad they took him out of the game.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I think we’re in the minority, but I agree. He bit a couple of times, but I thought he recovered fairly well. I was worried that when he got pulled it might have hurt his confidence. Definitely thrown in the fire with no true preparation time.

          • Coach JK says:

Not bad coverage, just never found the ball. He was physical and I like that. the mistakes he made are very easily correctable.

          • Birddawg says:

The physical part is what I loved. Not many True freshmen go into a game and play that physical. He wasn’t hesitating. He played his game… got in the dudes face.
Do you remember any PIs?.. I don’t..

Playing smart physicality is what separates good corners and excellent corners.

        • MoJoOkie says:

The beauty for me in that game is I won’t come away disappointed.

    • ouwooferman says:

      no bowl no contract.

    • Birddawg says:

Strong needs to have a winning season..
Texsa doesn’t keep coaches for three straight losing seasons…
      Think about this… in the 2010 – 2016
Texsa is 27-26 in Big12 conference play..
Still premier state of texsa program.. blah blah but that’s freaking bad

    • Bob Edwards says:

I think the first five games are the key for them. If they get humiliated by ND, lose a late west coast game to Cal, then lose @ OSU and then get beat soundly by us he could not make it back from Dallas. Play ND close, beat Cal and OSU, and be in the game with us and he probably makes it out of the season intact barring a late season collapse.

    • Jordan Esco says:

      Minimum 8, IMO

      • cush creekmont says:

Jordan – an educated guess or do you have some “info” from the texsa guys? He can claim “improvement” if they make a bowl.

        • Jordan Esco says:

No “info” just my opinion. Though now that I’ve said it, I do think there are scenarios in which he could also survive a 7-5 regular season.

          • bommer85 says:

We need to stomp their asses this year, the rest will play itself out for Chuck the snake oil salesman

          • cush creekmont says:

Thanks! With the TFB texsa connections, I thought perhaps there was some scuttlebut drifting around.

And as always, thanks for your work gathering the News!

    • Slim Sooner says:

I’m gonna say 7 wins ( including a minor bowl ) so they have a winning record of 7-6. This a marked improvement over last two years. Texsa will proclaim they’re back to elite status and Charlie should be coach of the year.

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think the question should be rephrased as “how many losses of Texsa will it take to maximize our enjoyment of their misery?”. Kind of like how many licks does it take to get to the caramel of a Tootsie Pop?

  • Jeff says:

How many kids is uterus cutting to make room for the Baylor defects?

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I guess I’m the only one who thinks that if chuck breaks .500 then he’s safe. Let’s not forget he did clean house when he got there. They’ll give him a full 4 seasons before doing anything.

    • ouwooferman says:

Dont forget he also changed out some of his staff last year. It appeared to be a last ditch effort to buy time. I dont think he fits UT culture (by booster standards). The take from my UT friends in Houston is If he does not win a bowl game…..gone.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

And your friends in Houston have any say in what exactly? Ppl can talk all they want but if you’ve got a revolving door of employees then you’ll never succeed. That’s in ANY business.

        • ouwooferman says:

Did not imply “any say”. Just UT grads that have been going to every home game since they graduated in the 70s and donate annually. We watched Mack Brown go through the same efforts, change coaches to placate the powers that be and it did not work out for a NC winning coach, why would they give (a loser to date) more time than Mack?

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Because chuck is hands down a better coach that Mac attack ever was. I mean he build Louisville into a good program for goodness sakes. He’ll be just fine. It scares me bc he’s such a good coach but I miss the days when Texas OU was a playoff game into the natty.

          • HORNS stuck in the midwest says:

            man, you’re alright!

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’ve always been high on Chuck regal regardless of the fact he wears that hideous color. I’m actually going to be very worried about The whorns in a couple years. During the season don’t expect to come to our side of TFB and me be nice though! Cuz we will wax yalls azz this year lol

          • ouwooferman says:

No doubt on his resume prior to UT. I fully agree with the OU UT as a key game to the NC> Same as NU was back in the day.

          • Jake H. says:

I guess Mack building NC into a powerhouse and returning UT to their glory days was al just luck.
Chuck better than Mack is a joke.

But you’re entitled to that opinion I suppose.

          • HORNS stuck in the midwest says:

obviously not luck but a question that divides Longhorns

          • Jake H. says:

Mack won double digits for 9 straight seasons!!
What is the question that divides?
The only question I see is how spoiled can you get?

He did nosedive, it was time to go for sure, but to compare him and Strong is stupid.

          • HORNS stuck in the midwest says:

the question is does all the talent he stockpiled equate to 1 NC and a handful of conference titles. Yes double digit wins for 9 years but during those 9 years there were some bitter and humiliating losses to OU.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

The verdict is still out, but chuck isn’t far off. He needs a natty and that’s it. They both built up crap programs then moved to UT. Chuck still has time.

          • DrewChubbs says:

Mack did fare pretty well his first 3 years. Well, his first 12. But since Chuck’s only been in Austin for 3, counting the coming season, it’s still way too early to give the nod. In his defense (yuck) he did inherit a nose-diving team and cleaned house, as you mentioned. Mack earned the first lackluster seasons after winning double digit games for a decade before the fall. Charlie started off bad, and the creature that is texsa might not be as patient.

          • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Yeah. I certainly don’t like defending Chuck, but I’m not going to sit here and act as if he’s a bad coach. I also don’t believe the boosters will come after him even IF he has another meh kind of season. Todd Herman is going to come rescue them? Come on now. They’ve got a defensive minded head coach ( which I believe is the best way to go ) now he’s found an offensive coordinator, now let them do their thing.

          • DrewChubbs says:

Of course, we are all basing this projection on rational, human behavior. We need to keep in mind that we’re discussing the texsa boosters and admins and the ego that they are suffering from. So, in reality, none of us really know what is going to happen!

          • Jake H. says:

18-8 with a division championship and a bowl win. vs 11-14 after first two seasons.
            Both inherited programs in trouble.
I’m not saying Strongs a bad coach. I’m just saying he’s probably by the guy UT wants or needs.
And he sure as crap isn’t on Macks level.

Yeah, all he needs is a Natty. Those are easy, just ask Bob.

    • cush creekmont says:

All he has to do is make ANY bowl. One decent win will assure it – ND, Cal, OSU, OU or TCU plus a cupcake or two.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Dom Alexander was and is one of my favorite players. Him and Tom Wart were awesome for us considering the size of both. Dom stepped up big time when Nelson went down with that torn pectoral and never looked back.

  • cush creekmont says:

Football talk – I like football. I LOVE OU football. I like OU fans – most on TFB. It is a fine football, Sooner morning. I wish everyone a great football day!

    …but I do HATE texsa…especially their football!

  • CrimsonNative says:

I thought this was a bit interesting on where Creed’s friend sees him. https://twitter.com/BrendonEvers/status/747829117995749376

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Oh and DJ Esco, you did a wonderful job on your mixtape 🙂

    • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Ehhh, let us know when he drops that’s 3, or even better let us know when he picks us!

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

If you could meet and talk to any OU football player living who would it be?

    • cush creekmont says:

Dewey Selmon – met him “in the day.” Would find it interesting to discuss how things have gone since 1973.

    • LottsSocks says:

      Joe Don Looney, yahoo!

      Seriously, Prentice Gautt.

      • MoJoOkie says:

        Joe Don
        Long Gone

        • Dick Bump says:

Joe Don was an interesting character, led a unconventional life, from what I’ve heard, as well as a talented football player. Barry has great stories, fun stuff for a football fan.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Fully aware of his history. I was making a poetic parody about Lane citing “living” players. But yeah, Joe Don Looney was a colorful character.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

        JDL stories are the greatest!

        • SoonerGoneEast says:

Except for that one lapse of judgment he made by attending Texas for a brief moment.

        • Coach JK says:

If you like Joe Don Looney stories you would love the stories about Joe McReynolds.

          • Dick Bump says:

I don’t recall Joe McReynolds. When did he play?

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I don’t know anything at all about him. I think he played in the mid 70’s, which is when I started following as a kid.

          • Dick Bump says:

The more I think about it, it seems like he was a guy from Purcell. I don’t recall much about him or stories about him, although that’s not uncommon these days.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

            I’m listening….

    • MoJoOkie says:

Can I just drink a beer or six with Coach Switzer?

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

      AD

      • Dick Bump says:

AD will go down as one of the best to play the game.

        • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He’s the best RB ever, IMO. He played in an era where defensive ends are now 6’5 275 and can run like the wind. With all 40 yard dash times being electronic now A days as well. I’m sorry for all you Hershel and Bo fans, but AD would have done the same thing if not more than those two.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I’ve never seen anyone better than Marcus Dupree. Ever.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

It’s so hard to compare players from one era to the next. Physically, MD is not AD, but I like to look at how each individual stacked up to their opponents, and MD was so much further ahead than those he played with and against, no one comes close.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

He was a legit Pro player as a true freshman out of HS. I saw him do things that weren’t seemingly possible. No one could stop him.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Just think if he’d ever gotten himself into some kind of playing shape. Lots and lots of innate ability though.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I always wonder just how much better he could have been if he had AD’s work ethic. Mind blown…

          • MoJoOkie says:

I agree. Didn’t have the work ethic, but had talent enough to make up for it.

          • j l says:

Barry was better than herschel or bo, and AD IMO. At least those guys had some semblance of a team around them, sanders was a 1 man army. Those jukes, jump cuts and spin moves were a thing of beauty

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

He’s the best RB since Barry Sanders.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

I’ve met Gerald McCoy and had him sign my Adrian Peterson helmet! He said “we’ll both be in the HOF some day so that’ll be worth something.” I love that he LOVES being a Sooner! That man is one of my favs.

    • SoonerGoneEast says:

Would love to have a conversation with Switzer or Bosworth, but more than anything I would really love to talk with anyone who could tell stories that played alongside Joe Don Looney.

    • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Lane, with so many great players that OU has had how can we narrow our choices down? It would be cool if we could do the group talk thing like in the video with The King and some of his former players. However if I could only choose one, I would still probably have to choose two. Torrence Marshall and Brian Bosworth now see there intel lies the problem how could I not speak with AD as well. Ohh the irony of choices.

    • LottsSocks says:

      Living = Boz

    • Daniel Ruffo says:

Jamelle Holieway. As much as I hate running QB’s, he was awesome.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Dude was a monster! So young and athletic when he hit the scene! I wish I was alive for those days. Thank god for YouTube.

      • SoonerGoneEast says:

I called a friend one day and Holieway answered the phone. Pretty cool, I chatted him up for about five minutes. I told him I still had his jersey, but it’s a little snug 20+ years later, lol!

I wish I had known I was going to be talking with him so I could have prepared some questions in advance.

      • Defend Colfax says:

You hate running QBs? How old are you?

        • ouwooferman says:

Had to laugh at that as well. If i could turn back CFB time, I would much prefer those days and going to a Bowl when they were conf. bound. I think i had more fun with the debate of who is No. 1 than the current state. CFB has lost some its history along the way, if you know what i mean.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Having met Paul Thompson a few times, he’s a great guy and will answer any questions you have for him.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

      Brent Rawls

    • ouwooferman says:

Jump ball with Jack Mildren, any Selmon Bro and Coach Switzer.

    • BigJoeBrown says:

Maybe Kelly Gregg, love hearing him on the radio. Down to earth and has amazing stories.

      • DrewChubbs says:

I had a class with him freshman year at OU. He knew a guy I went to high school with, so I got to chat with him a few times. Really cool, down-to-earth guy.

    • Jpsooner23 says:

Torrance Marshall. I would only need him to repeat his NCG coin flip speech to me and I’d be good to go.

    • Dick Bump says:

There is a lot of choices. This countdown makes you realize how many “greats” have been associated with OU, not only players, but also coaches, broadcasters and other characters.

    • SoonerJake says:

Dewey. How many other former All-Americans and NFL players hold PHDs?

    • BigJoeBrown says:

This question has be thinking…you know, Eric Striker would be a really good to meet. Or maybe J.C. Watts? I still think Striker one day should run for some kind of political office.

Or maybe a player that didn’t get a whole lot of attention. When I was a kid, Mike Coats was my favorite player. Played LB with consistency.

    • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

My favorite OU backfield was Sims, Overstreet, King and Lott. I would like to visit with all of them, of course Overstreet is not with us but anyone of them or all of them together would be pretty cool.

      • Defend Colfax says:

Sim’s fro, Lott’s bandana, Overstreet’s jerri curl, and King’s biceps made for a great one. Switzer had great hair too.

    • John Garner says:

Player = The Boz. Coach = Barry (or Mike Leach. That would be an education.)

    • StL Sooner says:

mind blown trying to make this decision!

  • BigJoeBrown says:

That people are awesome video is legit……way cool

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

Crazy this was almost 10 years ago!

    • HoustonChiver says:

They still play this at the OU Houston watch party bar at half time and after wins!

  • BleedCrimson says:

    66 DTG – Lots of AA’s here
Granville Liggins AA 66-67; Louis Oubre AA 76-80; Terry Webb AA 72-75; Jerry Thompson AA 57-59

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

    Lol

  • CS says:

Charlie has got something good going, this is positive for us as well, since their team will be viewed as tougher competition. Now, it is also tricky, we need to kick their ass which gets harder with all the talent they are adding.

But, to be honest, I will take some losses if it is similar to the quality of the games we saw in 2008, 2009 years.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

I don’t want the losses, but yes, Texsa has something going. With all the Bailor ship-jumpers, they ended up with a pretty salty class. They will be tough to beat from here on out. (Of course, they’ve proven tough for us to beat the last 3 years anyway.)

      • jimintexas says:

How many of these do you think that Texsa would have gotten, anyway, if Bailor was still just Bailor?

        • SoonerMagic76 says:

Good point – a fair few. Although that may have meant they didn’t get some of the ones they already got

  • JB says:

I don’t know if anyone saw this or not, but OU made a new addition to the baseball coaching staff.

I haven’t been bashful about showing my disapproval for the Pete Hughes hire since it was made. Nice man, bad fit. Pinzino seemed to be a bad mistake and proved to be over 3 years. Mike Anderson was the only hire that made sense to me and I thought he’d make a better HC than Hughes.

Now, OU added Skip Johnson from Augie Garrido’s staff. We went from having a nobody as a pitching coach to having one of of the best pitching coaches out there. I’m curious to see if this move pays off for Hughes. I am a little more optimistic about our chances going forward with Skip on the staff.

    • ouwooferman says:

Fully agree. It was time we got something back from UT. They owe us big for Royal and Brown.

      • LottsSocks says:

Uh, don’t we owe them for Brown? ?

        • ouwooferman says:

Well, He did coach at OU under Switzer. He learned about recruiting from the King. LOL But I think I am missing your intent.

          • LottsSocks says:

            63-14
            65-13
            55-17
            63-21
We owe Texsa for Mr. February, indeed.

          • ouwooferman says:

I see what you did there. Nice.

          • jimintexas says:

He has the honor of being the OC with the lowest offense production in Switzer’s time. He recruited well though

          • ouwooferman says:

Wow. Toss the fact that Danny Bradley got hurt, Troy Aikman was a true frosh and had to start vs. Kansas. We were still running the Wishbone. On Oct. 27, 1984, 15 days before his 18th birthday, Troy Aikman became the first freshman to start at quarterback for OU in at least 40 years. With No. 1 quarterback Danny Bradley injured and No. 2 Mike Clopton ineligible, Aikman suddenly was thrust from redshirt and scout team status to the varsity’s numero uno. We tied Texas and lost to Washington in the Orange bowl. This was the bowl game where the sooner schooner came on to the field and was flagged. Forced a rekick by Tim Lasher that was blocked. OU entered the game No. 2. Not as bad you seem to think.

Thanks for the input. After watching what has been going on with OU baseball with Pete Hughes, I was curious on what would happen in the offseason.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Baseball and woman’s basketball have been badly underachieving. Dramatic change is needed for both, IMO.

    • John Garner says:

Thanks for the inside info. I know squat about b-ball, so any insight is appreciated. My sense of it however is that the change should have been at the HC level, and not simply the pitching coach. Joe C. didn’t, so I’ll support his decision.

I miss the good old days…
“We didn’t lose, we just ran out of time.”
    “I’ll answer that for Chris.”
“The wind has as much to do with our performance as OU did.”

BOOMER SOONER and hello to all Sooner fans and friends! Megan Fox is HOT! Make it a great day everyone.

    • Slim Sooner says:

BOOMER SOONER!! The weather’s HOT out here! Lol!! Texsa SUCKS, but sure is racking up Bailer bailouts, amiright. Smh

      • Tim A says:

Right on Slim Sooner! Was hot as heck here in STL for past few weeks, but a cool front just in time for holiday BBQ this weekend. Low 80’s and high 70’s during the days next 3-4 days. Nice and unusual for us. Couldn’t agree more re: Texsa SUCKS.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Man, where is the OP? Is there no new info?

  • Malicong says:

    OP is up

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Anyone lurking over here? Just nod if you can hear me?

    • Slim Sooner says:

I’m here, 47. Just checking to see if Sam ever posted today. Metz, Hawk and Leo never checked in today after yesterday’s fussin and fightin. Or Dustin? Kinda concerned about them and some others.

      • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Just an observation. But with all the newbies that are coming looks like a lot are UT fans. Was a lot of talk about Texsa yesterday. Just seems pretty odd that after all this went down we had a lot of first time posters!!! Just is not the same without the morning crew.
