    Up early today! BOOMER SOONER!

  • Framoka says:

    Boomer!

  • Ura Hogg says:

    From above article:
On the possibility of expansion, a football title game and a conference TV network, Texas AD Mike Perrin said in Phoenix:
“I can’t say I’ve got an open mind on any of these issues,” Perrin said. “I can say I’ve got an open mind for receiving data.”
The Big 12 and its partners will have to do a lot of selling to Texas President Greg Fenves and Perrin. LHN or not, Texas appears to really like 10 conference members and no more.
    ——————-
What a joke! With the current state of the Big 12, Texsa should be backed into a corner by the rest of the member schools and told to make changes or get out.
The problem is, of course, Texsa is the school with the power. That’s what has destroyed the conference.
Time for OU and any other school with sense to abandon ship.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Ura Hogg : most posters on this site have been saying the same thing for 3-4 yrs. Unfortunately, DB,BS, JC disagree and their opinions hold sway. When Boren retires, MAYBE there will be a change in OU’s stance of being Texas ‘little bro’ and taking what the Horns allow……….

      • Birddawg says:

        I agree.
I don’t think Boren has the cajones to break away from Texsa..
Plus I have my suspicions that Boren is a vampire.. he may be around for a long time.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I think he does. Maybe it is only blind hope on may part. We shall see soon enough, I guess.

          • Birddawg says:

            I hope you’re right.
SEC isn’t going to let the B1G have all the fun making big $$
They will open expansion train again and we better not be late.

  • Collin says:

Morning everyone! Crazy news about Greg Bryant. I remembered how excited I was when he committed and then how pissed I was when he de-committed. Life is too short!

    • Stephen Dale says:

No kidding. nothing has been said if this was a targeted ‘hit’ or a random act of violence. too bad, nothing seemed to ever work out for Bryant.

  • ⚡️Electric Sooner⚡️ says:

Top of the morning to everyone, BOOMER!!

  • J.r. Kamm says:

    Good morning, fellow Brainiacs!!

  • Ura Hogg says:

    Good morning and Boomer Sooner!
Let’s start a new movement. Instead of worrying about who to add, the real solution for the Big 12 can only come by focusing all energies on removing the source of the conference’s problems- TEXSA!
If that’s not possible, it’s time to shoot Ole Yeller and move on.

  • SoonerOracle737 says:

Enjoyed the Baker highlight video. Sometimes forget how special he was last season.

    • Slim Sooner says:

Just thinking that very same thing.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Brings up the question : can Mayfield improve over last season OR did he hit his productive ceiling in 2015 ? OL/WR questions should give pause as to an improvement of Mayfield’s numbers this season….plus the schedule for 2016 is tougher. Both Houston & tOSU should be stout and most Little 12 teams should be stronger than 2015……looking objectively at the upcoming season, 4 losses by our ‘crimson & creme’ Sooners is very possible.

      • Birddawg says:

I don’t mind him hitting the same ceiling as he did last year.
His efficiency was off the charts.
They will have a stronger run game to rely on next season.
As long as he doesn’t turn the ball over, stays healthy, and is efficient at hitting his WRs. I don’t think he or anyone else cares if he throws 10 tds or 50 as long as we are winning.

        • SoonerOracle737 says:

Our Oline will be better too. Plus, LR has gained quite a bit of insight into what his current roster of players can do well AND he has adjusted how he calls games to take advantage of matchups.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

I still worry about our receivers, but usually somebody ends up stepping up. As long as somebody steps up on the WR core, I think we’ll be fine. Shep bailed us out a BUNCH last year.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yes. I have concerns with WR’s too, but I don’t want one go-to guy to emerge. I want them all to step up their games and let us spread the ball around. We want opposing backfields having their heads collectively spin.

          • Birddawg says:

LR established an identity. Now, we will practice it all spring and summer.
WRs. I expect a more traditional Air Raid approach of spreading the ball around.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Yes, I saw some comments by the coaches that the players “get it” and they are so much further along this Spring than last. We could see a more traditional (is there such a thing?) Air Raid type offense.

          • SoonerfanTU says:

Seems like OU and other air raids still typically have that one guy that stands out. Maybe our committee is good enough that we don’t need that, or maybe somebody emerges. But OU’s had a lot of success with Shep and Broyles over the last several years. We have enough talent on campus that I think we’ll be fine, but with our schedule, we have to come out of the gates strong on offense. If we start like we did last year, we won’t be undefeated going into the UT game.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

Baker is going to be more comfortable, so I think we come out of the gates firing on all cylinders. I’m very optimistic about our offensive production. Not sure about our LB’s though. I think they might be a weakness early on and will get torched a few times by the pass happy teams.

          • Birddawg says:

Andrews is going to be a mismatch heaven.
            Dede is reliable.
Then you have a huge committee of guys..
Swiss army knifes .. AD miller/Quick
            Tall length jump… Dahu/ Mead/Todd
            HWS … Smallwood/ Lewis/Baxter
There are enough mismatches in this group to create problems week to week.

          • Birddawg says:

Lol, Air raid was/is whatever is on the piece paper that Leach carries around.
But I think LR will get his 8 man WR rotation. A different guy stepping up. (mismatch of the week)

          • Dick Bump says:

It will be interesting. I think our strong rushing attack will keep us from being the ” traditional” air raid offense, more of an unique version. Should be fun to watch.

        • Oscar says:

Agree. Although, he may hit all his targets, but they better catch the ball.

          • Birddawg says:

I don’t remember us having a problem with drops..
            Quick?
I do remember baxter fumbling a couple of times in bad moments

          • Oscar says:

We need someone to step up to be “THE guy” in go-to situations.

      • John Garner says:

More athletic O-Line, more time in LR’s system, stronger and deeper run game, and more time in the weight and film room = he’ll be better. The key, I think, will be the WRs.

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        You said that last year…LOL…troll….

Every one knows the OLine will be better than last year. What drugs are you taking? The two weakest links are gone. Remember LR didn’t use the running game until after Texas…so we should be push Houston aside.

        • SamSooner says:

He always wants you to think he’s a good guy. Tries to use the sandwich technique: a negative between two positives. He starts out like we’re a good team. He doesn’t waste any time getting to the negative. And in his excitement, he forgets to finish with a positive. That man has such issues that needs to check himself in for a psyche evaluation.

I don’t understand that he never has a positive to say, genuinely positive.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

I think SD is an anti-Sooner fan almost the exact opposite species of sunshine pumpers like J. Hale. In fact, I think if the two of them ever accidentally touched the would explode into pure energy like matter touching antimatter. They are the yen and yang of Sooner Football fandom.

          • SamSooner says:

Comical and funny, that post. What a tragedy.

      • SoonerinLondon says:

OL will be better this year, which actually could help the running game and take some pressure (figuratively and literally) off Baker.

His WR corp will need to step up, but I suspect that seeing more of Andrews will help a lot.

Baker will have a better year than last year, but it may not be as spectacular or have the lofty stats.

Interestingly, some mock drafts actually have him going in the first round of the draft.

        • SamSooner says:

You know you’re talking to a blind and deaf knucklehead, right. He doesn’t hear a word you say and he hasn’t seen OU do anything good. Hence, he’s blind and deaf.

          • SoonerinLondon says:

Oh, I don’t think SD is that bad. He likes to stir the pot, but he is also correct sometimes.

          • SamSooner says:

Not to disagree with you but he’s full of it. He’s like the ocean: too much salt to be of any use.

          • J.r. Kamm says:

A broken clock is right twice a day.

          • cush creekmont says:

Which is far more often than poor SD on his OU season record predictions the last couple of years.

      • ouwooferman says:

objectively – not influenced by personal feelings, interpretations, or prejudice; based on facts; unbiased: an objective opinion. 6. intent upon or dealing with things external to the mind rather than with thoughts or feelings, as a person or a book. Failed

        • SamSooner says:

Woof, that reads very nicely. However, I don’t think you will accomplish your intent; objectively speaking, of course. LOL!

      • Oscar says:

Stephen, you make me sad for you. 🙁

“I know it’s 110 outside and it hasn’t rained in a month, but I’m still carrying my umbrella” SD

        • Randy Keller says:

No doubt Oscar!! Perfectly said His act gets old fast makes coming here painful some days when he’s being a turd Texas sux

      • hemisooner says:

hahahaha, you always think OU will lose. Oline will be better. WR’s is the only question mark on offense. Plus we are in year 2 of Riley’s offense, so we should at least be on par with last year’s offense.

      • Boom says:

If Baker works on being smarter in the pocket, his ceiling is much higher. Another year in this offense will help everyone. Baker will have more confidence with his WRs and especially his OL. All of this will help him become a better QB. It’s about all 11, not just the QB.
Predicting Wins/Loses doesn’t do anyone any good.

      • Jpsooner23 says:

An undefeated season is “very possible”

a 1 loss season is “very possible”

a 2 loss season is “very possible”

a 3 loss season is “very possible”

a 4 loss season is “very possible”

        etc, etc, etc

See what I did there. Now can I come back IF any of those scenarios actually happen and tell everyone here I called it? that’s what you do.
It was nice not having you around for awhile. Go back where you were please.

    • Birddawg says:

If he didn’t get knocked out in the TCU game he would have been invited to NYC.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Every time I see something about conference talks my head instantly fills with F@&$ texsa!

    • SoonerOracle737 says:

Me too. They have such a long history of trashing conferences. They need to go away and go independent.

  • 47 Straight OU Know says:

Good morning all you Brainiacs!! “It is another fine day to be a SOONER” Apparently i have been sleeping under a rock for the past 40 years. Can someone tell me when the hell did Texsa become more of a national brand then our beloved SOONERS? Myself i would much rather loose this rivalry then stay in this conference any longer. And let me be the first to say today….

    • ouwooferman says:

The fact that they have over 2x the enrollment of OU, better academics, research etc, brand recognition is a pure numbers game.

agree with your stance on loosing the rivalry/conf. statement.

  • Mike Reed says:

Good morning my Sooner family!! May the storms pass you by today and may the suck that is texass fall off into the gulf.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Did the conference allow Texas to have TLN or do you need permission for that?

    • Birddawg says:

This is how I understand it.
Yes, the TV deal was for tier 1/2
Tier 3 is open for all schools in the Big 12. (like ACC)
Texsa just happens to be worth 28-30 mil LHN.
We paired with FOX for our Sooner Network.
Problem is, it doesn’t leave much content for a Conference network with the two Biggest Brands of the conference already have their networks. OU is willing to leave it but Texsa is making too much money.
Texsa is willing to part with it but they want more money. (You here how they want significant partner this or that but its about $$) Only way for them to make more is if we got schools to join big 12 that adds value and there are no schools that brings that value. That’s why Texsa is shooting it down.

    • Jordan Esco says:

w/o a conference network, your 3rd tier rights (which is what LHN has, similar to Sooner Sports TV for OU) are yours to do w/ what you like

      • Lane Gilstrap says:

I’m just curious why the conference needs their permission if Texas doesn’t need the conferences permission.

        • SoonerfanTU says:

Why the conference needs UT’s permission to use/sell UT’s tier 3 rights? Because UT owns them.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

Maybe they should create a conference network and leave out Texas.

          • Birddawg says:

Not enough content value without Texsa.
            Need OU and Texsa together.

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

Not enough content with 9 schools?

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

Plenty of content. Not enough subscribers

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

Maybe the share of $ should be divided up by subscribers then.

          • j l says:

Unequal revenue distribution is the reason we only have 10 teams, that model wont work anymore.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Everyone who stayed in the conference basically agreed to let Texsa run the show.
Now they see where that decision got them -the least respected major conference with less than comparable profits and an uncertain future.

          • Ura Hogg says:

That would only have worked before TAMU, Nebraska,Missouri, and Colorado left. Would have been the thing to do though, then.
Now it’s just the ole hindsight 20/20 situation.
Everybody who stuck with Texsa got burned.

        • Jordan Esco says:

why the conference needs whose permission?

          • Lane Gilstrap says:

What I was saying is if the conference wants a network why not just leave Texas out?

          • Jordan Esco says:

Oh, sorry. Well technically they could do that I suppose, but from a business standpoint it probably doesn’t make much sense considering Texas’ “brand” is easily the most valuable/wide-reaching within the league.

  • Soonerfandave84 says:

    Morning all. Tuck Fexsa!

  • BleedCrimson says:

I loved this during the game yesterday. Tori was great.

    • Dick Bump says:

The softball is really playing great. I didn’t make any of the games. I understand it was a full house. Great year for OU sports.

  • SamSooner says:

C’mon, Boren! Tell the rest of the league that “It’s been real and it’s been fun; but, it hasn’t bee real fun.” Tell them we’ll see them later.

  • RonBurgundy says:

Mornin’ all….So…..Since teams now learned to keep Mayfield stuck in the pocket….can he make up for the reduced scrambling ? ? ?
    Stay classy…

    • Ura Hogg says:

As long as he’s got Perine and Mixon in the line-up, play action will be available. There’s nothing that says Mayfield will be stuck in the pocket every play.
      Hope that was classy.

  • j l says:

If mcaffery goes in the top 10, ahead of dalvin cook, ill eat my hat. Dynamic returner, but dont see him being an every down runner in the NFL.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Fournette will likely be the only top 10 RB next season.

      • Ura Hogg says:

The question about him is will he survive the pounding he will take of another year in Les Miles’ offense?

It’s actually hard to put Les Miles’ name so close to the word offense.

      • j l says:

I see fournette and cook being early 1st rounders easy. Possibly freeman and mcaffery late 1st, perine early 2nd.

        • Soonerfandave84 says:

Seems like that is about right except Cook middle to late 1st IMO

          • j l says:

It’ll depend on the order and such, but i could see him top 10, or later in the 1st. Be shocked if hes not the 2nd RB taken though.

          • Soonerfandave84 says:

            Probably. His speed will help

    • BleedCrimson says:

This is the correct one. Funny!

    • Bob Edwards says:

That’s hilarious. Whoever is doing the online videos for OU is doing a great job. Well except for the Gymnasts singing that was cringeworthy. But even then, at least they are trying to be innovative and have a good time with it.

      • BleedCrimson says:

Maybe not the best vocalists, but loved the effort to give it the ole college try! They are definitely better gymnasts. lol

        • Bob Edwards says:

Don’t get me wrong I love the concept. Probably should have had Nila sing while he was doing the gymnastics-football crossover video. He’s got a good voice.

          • BleedCrimson says:

Lol. This is still my favorite of the gymnastics videos.

  • Kyle Boone says:

Can the two Oklahoma teams saddle up together and jump to the SEC?

    • j l says:

No, SEC has already said they wont take OSU.

    • BleedCrimson says:

sec says that they do not want OSecondU, being they are in the same TV revenue.

      • Kyle Boone says:

I will settle for PAC 12.

Actually, I would be OK if OU/OSU went separate directions. But I suspect they are package deal.

        • BleedCrimson says:

I am not a fan of the late night games going west. I would love to see a convergence of the ACC and XII. Think that would work out best for fans and recruiting.

          • SamSooner says:

So long as OU leaves this conference, OU’s image is tied to this dysfunctional band of teams.

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Agreed.

          • SamSooner says:

Boren needs to pull the plug. He has to have Bob’s blessing and I bet you the $EC would not hesitate to take OU.

          • BleedCrimson says:

OU would definitely upgrade their brand. I just hate sec!

          • SamSooner says:

That’s two of us. This would be a win-win for OU. It would definitely help recruiting and I don’t think too many teams in the $EC could play with OU.

          • cush creekmont says:

Boren is such a super BI6 devotae, he probably wears a diaper just in case they call to offer OU. He will not accept the SEC until all doors to the BI6 are irrevocably closed.

A couple more years of sub-500 texsa football MIGHT lower their hubris sufficiently to make the 12-2 workable, but the horse-race odds on that are likely below either an SEC or a BI6 move by OU.

          • SamSooner says:

            Good point.

          • Walter Sobcek says:

I agree. Want nothing to do with sec. OU’s recruiting is back to the top, and TCU is hitting new highs. Texas will be back eventually. No need for all this panic and chicken little negativity about the conference.

          • jimintexas says:

I thing Castiglione may be the biggest hurdle to change

          • SamSooner says:

Why do you think Joe is going to be a hurdle?

          • jimintexas says:

I don’t know for sure. I have just been hearing that Joe is very loyal to our current conference. And if there is anyone who I think could influence Boren I believe Joe might, more than Bob

Personally, just busy. Looking forward to retiring in a couple of years and hopefully spending a lot of my time in the mountains of Guatemala.

Hope you are doing well. I lurk a lot more than post

          • SamSooner says:

Stop lurking. We need your input. LOL!

          • jimintexas says:

I am not a fan of west-coast times. As long as home games are no later (I don’t get home until after 12 am as it is) I could live with them. But, since I may retire closer to the grandkids in AZ, selfishly PAC would be great, for me

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Gotta have those priorities!!! lol

        • jimintexas says:

PAC would be a greater chance of going together. As said in other post, SEC only wants one team per state, going forward.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

Sorry Kyle the Aggies of Texas said they’d block anyone who’d threaten their sheep supply. 😉

    • SamSooner says:

I’m not sure Kyle. Looking out for OSU the last time cost OU. I don’t think it will be a point of contention this time around. If it moves forward, it’ll be each man for himself.

    • Bob Edwards says:

I doubt it. As other the others have said, the SEC really only wants one team per TV market and OSU doesn’t bring anything that OU doesn’t. I would think KU would be a more likely partner for the SEC. Brings an elite basketball program to the Kentucky and the 13 dwarves conference and renews the MU rivalry. Though MU may or may not want that.

      • RocketCitySooner says:

I agree that KU and OU are more likely. However, I would think they’re more likely to go B1G than SEC. Personally, I’d like OU to cut the chains to UT more than anything. UT just seems to turn any conference into a dumpster fire.

        • Bob Edwards says:

I think the problem right now is Boren et al want to go the B1G but the B1G isn’t that interested. However, the SEC would take us in a heartbeat. If we aren’t careful we are going to end up not having a date to the prom even though there is a cute chick who would go with us, she’s just not the head cheerleader.

        • Birddawg says:

When was the last time if ever, OU was not in a conference with either OSU,TX, or Neb?
It could happen..and are we okay with that?

          • BleedCrimson says:

            Yes

          • Ura Hogg says:

Time to break free from Texsa, period.
What’s not okay is the status quo.

          • RocketCitySooner says:

Given the opportunity to choose one out of those three, I’d choose NU.

          • Birddawg says:

I don’t know how much say they would have but the state politicians would jump in front of a camera to talk about how” OU/OSU should be together forever.”
            We can form new rivalries.
Lets make the big $$$ and have our LT stability.

    • Slim Sooner says:

“Saddle up”….uh, no. Bad visual images there. LOL. (Reindeer games)

    • BleedCrimson says:

We hitch OUr ponies to the schooner! 😉

    • RocketCitySooner says:

Wouldn’t that be like taking your little brother with you on a date when you’re going out with the head cheerleader?

  • BleedCrimson says:

Not OU related, but very inspirational.

  • BigJoeBrown says:

In regards to recruiting, I wonder how big of an effect the numerous rapes and sexual assaults have had at Baylor? They have had one after the other once the that Sam Ukwuachu rape case came into light. Ken Starr and the entire university has basically turned a blind eye and done nothing and it seems like they have tried to sweep every case under the rug.

I think you can’t help but look at OU last year and the SAE deal. For the very beginning Boren jumped on it, Striker was vocal, Stoops was outspoken. Yes it looked bad, but the way the university handled it was head on. It just doesn’t look that way at Baylor.

    • SamSooner says:

I agree. I believe this is the beginning of the end for Baylor. I don’t see Briles surviving this. There’s a lot that happening that will make you question his leadership; I mean, think about the coach for Baylor at the Tulsa game. That and everything else give a win at all cost impression of the leadership.

      • Fear The Magic says:

I wish it were true but unfortunately anything short of Briles personally commiting a rape I do see him surviving this. Baylor just put millions of dollars into a new stadium and facilities and for them its football full speed ahead.
Ethics be damned. They’ll just cover up and hide as much as they can.

        • jimintexas says:

I know a lot of Baylor fans. They just don’t want to talk about it. I was speaking to someone who has access to the team, this last Friday and they said the whole FB coaching staff is “slimy”

        • Clay Davis says:

Well, those millions are nothing compared to what they stand to lose if they lose federal funds due to noncompliance with Title IX. That includes federal research grants and all federally backed student loans.

      • jimintexas says:

It may not be totally over until Title IX finally catches up.

    • Soonerfandave84 says:

I just hope Philip Montgomery didn’t bring that Baylor culture with him to Tulsa

      • Malicong says:

I don’t think Tulsa fosters that kind of atmosphere. They know they will never be one of the big boys in sports and don’t really try to be. Tulsa is one place where integrity and academics will always be at the forefront. Baylor has too much uterus envy and want to be thought of on the same level as the elite.

  • KJ1123 says:

That’s sad about that kid Bryant. RIP.

Lincoln Riley twitter just posted a picture of a horses, um private parts…i will not repost here but very bizarre

Here’s an interesting article on undersized nose tackles. I wonder if McGinnis might fit this role like he played in high school? http://www.footballstudyhall.com/2015/4/17/8432253/is-football-going-to-start-seeing-smaller-nose-tackles-issac-gross-defense-spread

    • SoonerFan92 says:

Saw in a video he posted where he weighs around 230. Said that he was 270 at one point. Haven’t read the link yet, but 230 should probably be too light for an undersized nose tackle, right?

      • Matt says:

oh, he must have lost some weight! Was that a recent video? yeah this article doesn’t say anyone is actually using nose tackles this small, he’s just theorizing how it might be effective. He’s actually discussing moving a 6’1 260+ linebacker who can’t play in space to NT and let him just shoot gaps all day. That sounds exactly like McG to me.

        • SoonerFan92 says:

Yeah he posted it on something this weekend. Can’t remember where it is, though. I really hope that he gets everything together, because he was a head hunter in high school.

          • Matt says:

cool, that would be nice to see him get it under control if for nothing else than more depth and competition at ILB. Let Doucet stay outside.

          • SoonerFan92 says:

            Agree with you 100%.

my favorite undersized nose tackle was Granville Liggins back in the sixties.

Almost over for the voting. Vote Erin Miller. She is in second, lets see if we can get her that award.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Sammy just has to bite the bullet and go back and prove that hes a top notch NFL quarterback. If he can do that then he’ll be in the drivers seat either with the Eagles or some other team. I personally hate the eagles but I hope he kills it this year.

I seem to be in the minority here but I love the Big 12! Oklahoma dominating titles in all sports, making national playoffs and setting records. I consider this a golden age of Sooner athletics. Throw all this away to join the criminals of the SEC? I want what you’re drinking
