FOOTBALL (FREE)

According to KMIL 105.1 FM, OU wide receiver Dede Westbrook was arrested on Monday for criminal trespassing. Having only what you see below and assuming it’s as simple as it reads, I’ll be fairly surprised if anything comes of this other than Westbrook spending some quality time with Schmitty this summer. I suppose only time will tell, but this strikes me (again, considering what little details are currently available) as pretty minor.

LOVE the idea in principle, but there is no way in hell the Big 12 is forward-thinking enough to go the streaming route. Also, to be fair, there is no evidence the streaming services would pony up the big money cable networks did either. And one would have to think it’d need to be a pretty big number, if for no other reason than to help “mitigate the risk” of being the metaphorical lab rat here going against the ‘traditional’ route of cable television.

Spoiler alert: Nothing.

Bummer. Still though, hell of a run for the fellas.

That top 5 RBs looks like BS to me. How could DeMarco not be in the top 5? And other than actually winning the Heisman, I don’t see how Ricky could be listed ahead of AD.

    • Ura Hogg says:

If AD had stayed four years, Ricky Williams wouldn’t even be close to him.
Of course with AD’s talent, there was no way he could have stayed four years.

      • Dick Bump says:

Or if he’d stayed healthy during his time at OU. He’s one of the all time greatest at any position. He just really blossomed when he got to the pros.

      • Boom says:

Unfortunately, AD was hurt at OU and missed a lot of games his soph/jr years. That hurt him in this voting. However, to put Benson over Murray is a crime.

        • Dick Bump says:

I agree, that’s not right. Not going to get as many clicks if all the players are from OU.

          • Boom says:

Bingo. Got to get all those clicks from Texas. Worthless off season stuff. Enjoy your input.

    • Rick says:

      Because Ricky is always HIGHER.

  • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

So I’m up to the Kansas state game on me re watches. Something I’ve noticed this far is the lack of of a screen pass to the RB. Why are we not utilizing the half back pass more? Whether it’s a screen or just a route out of the backfield would do wonders for us. We need to be like the Patriots and steelers who use their receivers route combos to open things up specifically for the RB. Mixon and Perine are two of (if not) the best players we have. Mark Andrews obviously wasn’t utilized enough in my eyes. We really need our offensive line to learn to block straight on. Our run game can’t consist of only zone blocking schemes. We need a healthy mix of run plays with more half back passes. I also feel like mayfield needs to be more consistent with deep throws. Let OUr big young receivers go get that rock or get the PI call. Worst case scenario it’s equivalent to a punt if it’s picked off. I obviously want our defense to be smothering but in today’s game, a smothering defense still gives us 28 points lol. I think our offense could be so deadly and I just NEED those big boys to progress substantially.

    • SoonerinLondon says:

Hoping to see Andrews involved more, but he has got to catch those big passes in the big games. He didn’t help himself get on the field more when he dropped two potential TD passes against Baylor.

      • Vegas_Sooner21 says:

He certainly didn’t, but even then, that was what, week 10? He needed to be more involved way before that point in the season. I think we all forget how young we really were last season. Lincoln Riley did wonders for us last season, but his play calling against the more physical teams was a little questionable at times. Like I said before, I believe this offense can be so deadly that’s why I want these little things to be done and fixed before he start of next season.

        • SoonerinLondon says:

I agree completely. We also need to remember that, even though he is a beast, he played behind Shep in the slot. With Baxter, Quick and others there it was harder for him to get time when Shep was out or when we went to four WR sets.

No doubt he can be a difference-maker, IMHO.

        • jimintexas says:

We don’t see them at practice. If he was as inconsistent in practice as he was against Baylor, that might have something to do with it.

LR is pretty smart. Having these types of resources are new for him. Just like with players in their second year, I expect that LR has been working on ways to better use his resources. But, the players have to do it in practice so that the coaches have confidence in them.

  • SoonerinLondon says:

“Criminal trespassing”? What, exactly, would be included in that description?

    • Wilson says:

Whatever they want…unfortunately. Normally its a Class B misdemeanor in Texas, but who knows what the real circumstance details are. I also found this:

      Texas Penal Code

“Sec. 30.05. CRIMINAL TRESPASS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person enters or remains on or in property of another, including residential land, agricultural land, a recreational vehicle park, a building, or an aircraft or other vehicle, without effective consent and the person:

      (1) had notice that the entry was forbidden; or

      (2) received notice to depart but failed to do so.”

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

Saw on Facebook Dede was looking for a spot to go fishing. I hope this has something to do with the tresspassing thing.

  • Matt S. says:

I was thinking about streaming services…specifically Big 12 football on Netflix. I wonder what that would for Netflix’s numbers considering they already have millions of subscribers. I don’t know what kind of boost to their subscriptions they would get. I could see it going both ways…very well, or completely flipping.

    • Jordan Esco says:

I’d expect for something like Netflix it would require an add’l subscription of some sort so, as you’ve suggested, it would provide them w/ a boost in $ as opposed to a bunch of add’l subscribers.

      • Birddawg says:

        Maybe instead of Netflix..
Dish networks sling is expanding… just added FS1.
Charge me $5-10 extra for some college specific networks
I would be set paying 40 a month for the right channels.

      • Soonerfandave84 says:

        soonersports.tv becomes b12.tv

    • RBear says:

Sounds good but doubt Netflix has the infrastructure to pull it off as it stands- they could grab the equipment and cross their fingers for the ROI

  • cush creekmont says:

Jordan’s choices gave us several answers to questions we never knew to ask. So, what happens when you put a Russian in liquid nitrogen?

Question 2 – What happens when you put Art Briles before a grand jury?

  • RBear says:

Get a little tired of being expected to believe that these dude perfect guys succeed on their first attempts at this stuff- give me a camera and all day to f around having fun doing this stuff and I’ll eventually succeed as well- even a blind squirrel…

    • Jordan Esco says:

I can’t believe anyone who isn’t insanely naive would be under the impression most, if any, of those happen on the first try.

  • ALar03 says:

Take this as you want… But I follow Dede on snapchat and his last snap he was fishing at what may have been where the trespassing happened, I mean I have trespassed and fished before as I’m sure a lot of you have.. He seems like a very grounded kid having kids himself and taking care of them so I really don’t see much coming from this other than some stadium steps..

    • Jed says:

sure hope thats what it is. ive had farmers pretty aggro with me for fishing their ponds.

      • J.r. Kamm says:

The property owner must have been an Poke fan.

      • Oscar says:

Been there too! I use to get in big trouble for fishing in the abandoned open coal mining pits.

      • MoJoOkie says:

Yeah, I don’t like uninvited people on my property. Never had anybody arrested though. Usually a fairly rude GTFO works effectively.

        • Jed says:

in my case he knew my family. an afternoon assisting him ‘paid’ my debt.

        • Dick Bump says:

I can see that, especially if you stock your pond. A lot of people don’t respect others property.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I stock it and feed the fish during the Spring and Summer. Sometimes I’ll let people catch dinner, but not often.

          • Dick Bump says:

Sounds reasonable to me. A GTFO is better than getting shot at.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Not much for shooting at people either. Similar to fist fighting; I always told my boys that fighting wasn’t some fun thing, somebody is going to get hurt.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

Yeah, I truly don’t get where one feels he has the right to another mans property. You spend several thousand an acre buying your land, several thousand per acre (depreciated over 39 years) building your pond, then wait a year or two for it to fill and prove it won’t leak, then spend 3,4,$500 or more per acre stocking it, then manage it for the next few years trying to get size on the fish, keep paying the ad valorum taxes on your property every year, then some guy comes along and thinks it’s perfectly ok to come take what he wants from you to fill his freezer. Not cool. That same logic would entitle that person to grab a chicken or cow on his way out too.

          • Dick Bump says:

Yep. Or a watermelon…oops I think I may have done that in my youth.

          • Bob Edwards says:

A couple of my sons were adopted from Russia. They used to swim across the river into China to steal watermelons. This came up during a discussion of using rock salt in a shotgun. Turns out they were familiar with it because one of their friends had gotten shot on the midnight watermelon raids.

          • Ura Hogg says:

Ouch! I’ve put a little salt on my watermelon before, but wouldn’t want to get a taste of rock salt from a shotgun.

          • Bob Edwards says:

It’s an old farmer’s trick to load your shotgun with rock salt. It won’t kill but leaves a thousand little cuts that are now full of salt. Good for discouraging kids from raiding your watermelon patch.

          • MoJoOkie says:

No harm in a little watermelon. lol

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

In your defense, watermelons are mighty yummy.

          • Dick Bump says:

Lot easier to catch than a chicken, too.

          • Ura Hogg says:

“But surely they won’t miss a few chickens and a cow or two. Looks like there’s plenty.”

          • ALar03 says:

Most that fish in ponds like this are kids.. Kids that don’t have to buy or have responsibility to anything lol I’m pretty sure the thing they think about the least is time and money someone used to make and stock a pond

        • Dick Bump says:

I can see that, especially if you stock your pond. A lot of people don’t respect others property.

      • MoJoOkie says:

Yeah, I don’t like uninvited people on my property. Never had anybody arrested though. Usually a fairly rude GTFO works effectively.

    • Wilson says:

Pretty normal practice for a country boy…if you want to find the good fishing spots. I really hope this is what it is..

  • KJ1123 says:

How do you get arrested for trespassing, fishing…..smh

    • Bob Edwards says:

You think you have permission to fish and you climb over the wrong fence onto the wrong person’s property.

      • KJ1123 says:

It happens. I guess yelling “Hey get the (expletive) outta here!” doesn’t work anymore.

        • Bob Edwards says:

Well if there was a no trespassing sign up you can be arrested in a lot of states even if it was an honest mistake.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I don’t think I could have somebody arrested for fishing my lake. If I asked them to leave and it escalated, maybe.

          • Bob Edwards says:

I don’t think most people would, but if you’ve had a lot of problems in the past I can see where you would be quick to pull the trigger.
I had a situation on a house I owned where the original owner had pastored the church that owned the woods next door. It seemed that everyone who had ever gone to that church thought they had permission to go on the property even though the main gate was locked and my property had no trespassing signs up and a barricade.
I actually had people move the barricade to drive through my property onto the church’s property. I was pretty close to calling the cops on some of them.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I’ve always lived too far out in the country to be able to call the cops. The best response time I could ever hope for would be 45 minutes to a hour. I have on numerous occasions met them with a gun. It’s not in my nature, but neither is setting back and letting somebody carry off all my things.

          • MoJoOkie says:

That’s funny because I always tell people that by the time the Sheriff gets to my place it’ll be just in time to do a body count.

          • KJ1123 says:

Isn’t trespassing a misdemeanor out there? You would think it would just be a ticket. Unless the officer was a UT alum.

          • MoJoOkie says:

You’d think it would be unless there was some sort of extenuating circumstance.

          • MoJoOkie says:

You’d think it would be unless there was some sort of extenuating circumstance.

          • MoJoOkie says:

I forgot about deer season. That’s when I have the most trouble. When people go hunting in my woods without me even knowing. The grand kids will be playing out back and then you hear a rifle shot. Then I have to get the four wheeler and see if I can find the perp. Sucks.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

I’ve had the same thing happen with my kids out playing. Pretty scary. Half of the people out there hunting will shoot at anything that moves without a good visual of what it is.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Yep, had one shoot a fawn and he told me he thought it was a coyote. I told him if he couldn’t see any better than that he shouldn’t be hunting. That one pissed me off the worst.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

            Wow.

One of my personal favorites is when they will “sport” shoot anything that moves, then you find the carcass a week or two later. Very nice.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Found a buck (pretty sure) once with just the head gone. Guess the rack was worth taking home, but not the rest of the meat. smh

          • Ura Hogg says:

On a larger scale over here, that’s what happens to most of the elephants that are killed. It’s not hungry villagers who are wiping them out. Instead it’s guys with AK-47’s and helicopters looking for easy money to fund their rebellions in surrounding countries. Bodies with missing tusks are what’s left behind.
I’m not anti-hunting, but no sport at all in that.

          • MoJoOkie says:

Agree. I always tell the hunters if they want to hunt my property they can do it with a knife. No takers so far. Been on the same place for fifteen years.

          • Rick says:

I’ve got a neighbor that likes to use my property to work on his property. My wife caught him running his waste water out the back of his building onto our property. After a visit by the EPA, he hasn’t tried that again.

          • KJ1123 says:

Maybe Dede caught the world record bass that the property owners been trying to catch for 50 years. Instant pissed offness!

I should invite DeDe to fish all he wants in my pond. It has 550 miles of shoreline, and he can’t get arrested for trespassing anywhere on the “pond”.

    • Bob Edwards says:

You think you have permission to fish and you climb over the wrong fence onto the wrong person’s property.

    • Ura Hogg says:

Agree. The arrested part is what I’m shaking my head at. What happened to giving out tickets, or even a warning for that matter?

      • KJ1123 says:

        Exactly.

      • Rick says:

The arrested part gives NewsOK the authority to sensationalize another OU athlete as they see fit. Ryan Aber was quick to throw up (pun intended) a story as soon as the original tweet came out this morning. All of our local media must be from Texsa, because they all SUCK!!!

My father took me fishing thoughout my youth on farm ponds/lakes. He always got permission first, Shared the Catch and made sure we left it as we found it. NO TRASH.

He was in the oil business and typically had drilled on these places, thus the relationship with the land owner.

As an avid hunter, poaching places a bad look for all hunters. Same goes for those that fish illegally, use illegal harvesting techniques, keep fish out of size range etc.

Most land owners appreciate those that care enough to ask permission. Hope he learns from this youthful mistake.

    Sure miss those days.
