#TEXASHATEWEEK

Even Bevo has quit on this Texas team.

A first grade teacher explains to her class that she is a Texas Longhorn fan. She asks her students to raise their hands if they are Texas fans too.

Not really knowing what a Texas fan was, but wanting to be liked by their teacher, their hands fly into the air. There is, however, one exception.

A little girl named Hannah has not gone along with the crowd. The teacher asks her why she has decided to be different.

“Because I’m not an a Texas fan” she reports.

“Then,” asks the teacher, “what are you?”

“I’m a proud Oklahoma Sooners fan” boasts the little girl.

The teacher is a little perturbed now, her face slightly red. She asks Hannah why she is a Sooners fan.

“Well, my Dad and Mom are Sooners, so I’m a Sooner fan too” she responds.

The teacher is angry now “That’s no reason,” she says loudly. “What if your mom was a moron, and your dad was an idiot. What would you be then?”

Hannah smiles and says, “Then I’d be a Texas fan.” – soonerguys

FOOTBALL

Damn, this sucks.

If you can consider this a silver lining of sorts, at least he had this in place.

OTHER

Sigh.

In case you missed it on EsecSpin, the story on Sterling Shepard was great. As another poster said, ” a real onion peeler”. Guess it’s been around for a while but I had not seen it.

I love this years team! Like the 2013 team with Colvin, Ikard, Millard and Clay, this team has some great seniors. Sterling has probably moved past Broyles as my all-time favorite Sooner based on what he does in big games and the way you can tell he just loves to run around in the Sooner uniform. This team is a wholeeee lotta fun!

    • Jared William Reininger says:

Yeah, I ummm had to slice an entire field of onions and watch this.

Another poster said it and many are thinking it since his dad helped get the NC in 1985, 15 yr hiatus till 2000 then another 15 years to 2015. Wouldn’t that be great!!

Thanks for positng this! I’ll probably be caught up in the feels again today. And I’ll have to explain why I’m peeling onions at work to all my co-workers. Such a great story about 3 Sooner Legends!

It’s always a great day to be a SOONER, and one day closer to game day.

  • metzker says:

    7.47 and tesax still sucks

  • Golfluvr13 says:

Love this attitude the Sooners are taking in to the game this week:

“You always take Texas serious,” Tapper said. “Especially this year, they have nothing to lose. We have a lot to lose. We’re looking at this as we need to go out there and dominate no matter what. So right now, we’re looking at them as they’re 4-0 and we’re 0-4.”

  • Jim says:

That may be one of the most difficult Top 10’s of the Stoops Era categories. I mean, JW coming in after Hybl in ’02, all the Clayton moments in ’03, Peterson’s breakout in ’04, Belldozer’s day in ’12 are also good candidates.

  • hOUligan says:

    Aww…

  • john garner says:

Love the Boz. I hope his sentiment about saxeT is infectious.

  • hOUligan says:

    And then…

  • Cory Reedy says:

Feel bad for Karl Joseph. That kid is a badass. Get well #8.

    • Stephen Dale says:

Joseph ‘targeted’ Westbrook but was not penalized till practice time this week…..Karma indeed struck home……..Enjoy the rest of the season from the sideline, Karl.

      • Sam Philbeck says:

Another scumbag post. Outside of one play (which he shouldve been called for, but the refs somehow missed it), what karma did he deserve to get injured? Westbrook is just fine and still had a good game. So please explain what karma he deserved to have his college career cut short.

        • kt-raida says:

i was going to say that. even when stephen dale is defending the soobers he’s “difficult”

        • Jed says:

Sam, if anyone had needed more evidence, this post was it. Don’t respond to this tool. Unfortunately, he apparently can’t be permananned. Equally apparent is that he sits in front of his computer trying to calculate posts that are offensive enough to elicit response. Who knows what psychological dysfunction drives this behavior. But when you respond to him, you give him the release/validation that he craves. Deny him and he’ll go elsewhere. Maybe catcalls at high school girls or half releasing his brakes as a mother pushes a stroller across the street.

          • Sam Philbeck says:

            Jed,

You’re right. It just pissed me off for two reasons. 1. It was another irrational post from him that makes no sense whatsoever and continues to show how disconnected he is from everything else. 2. Karl Joseph made one play that was considered I guess dirty, even though I would say more on the lines of very aggressive. Outside of that he’s been nothing but a stellar player and it hurts the game when players of his caliber get hurt and to read someone like him celebrate his injury is nothing more than disgusting. It’s not like we are talking about Shawn Oakman. You’re right though in that I shouldn’t have commented on his post and left it alone cause it only feeds into his troll ego.

        • Stephen Dale says:

an intentional play to injure another player…what would be your comment had Westbrook suffered a broken neck or a sever concussion……Joseph could have made the tackle by other methods rather than the ‘macho, intimadator’ method he used……now he has time on his hands……..

          • Fear The Magic says:

So you’ve already convicted him of “intentionally trying to injure another player”. I guess amonst your many other talents you’re also a mind reader. You absolutely knew his intent was to injure.
Joseph is a hard nose player. Im quite sure he was just trying to do what he’s supposed to do and make the WRs leary about catching future passes in his area. Its what he does best.
I guess you’d be saying the same thing about past hard hitting Sooner DBs ( like Everett or Williams ) if they had gotten seriously injured.

          • Stephen Dale says:

FTM / SP———we are going to have to disagree on this issue. the rule was put in place to curtail needless injury due to ‘hard nosed’ players taking shots at defenseless receivers, backs, Qb’s…Whoever initiates the helmet to head is guilty of ‘targeting’ . When called, and in the eyes of the officials, the play was dangerous ( and, yes, even dirty ) enough to warrant a penalty. Just because the official made a mistake and failed to call doesn’t detract from the dangerous actions of the ‘perp” ( in this case , Joseph ) …you choose to call it a ‘har-nosed play’ ; I call it a ‘dirty play’—whether it was by the WV athlete or an athlete from any school. it goes to INTENT of the initiator and I think his INTENT was to deliver a blow with such force as to stop the receiver from running another route.

          • guest says:

My intent would be the same. I would want to send a message to my opponent to run his routes somewhere else, not in my area. I think some helmet to helmet contact is inevitable in football. You can even get ejected for an accidental ‘targeting’, because, yes, it is dangerous. But unless you could screw your head off and tuck it under your arm before you hit someone, there will sometimes not be a convenient place to tuck your head at the spit-second moment of contact. If your not aggressive, you get steamrolled into the next county.

          • Sam Philbeck says:

So there was no chance that his intent was to stop Westbrook from having a huge play and tried to dislodge the ball on what ended up being a bang bang play. Since you’re so aware of his intent please tell me. I’ve seen hard nosed plays and dirty plays and while it was an illegal hit by rule, I don’t think it was anything more than making a hard nosed play. Dirty was the farthest thing from my mind when I saw that play. Again though I can’t take this argument too seriously because you picked WV by two touchdowns and you’re now defending OU.

          • Fear The Magic says:

Whereas I agree that targeting is dangerous and probably at times the perpetrator intends to injure another player I dont think its right to just ASSUME that that was the players intent. You obviously have assumed that in this case and seem to relish his karma.
I can only guess then that you would wish the same karma on an OU DB who targetted an opposing WR of course not REALLY knowing his true intent.
All I can say is that you’d make a terrible judge or jurer deciding the outcome of a trial by whats true only in your mind.
Basically you’re saying that there is no such thing as accidental targetting. Ok I get it lol

          • Stephen Dale says:

FTM—–people setting on juries make decisions precisely by the method you described ( re : OJ Simpson murder trial ; Calee Anthony murder trial , etc ) . People make decisions based on CIRCUMSTANTIAL evidence all the time and have been doing so for hundreds of years…..evidence is interpreted differently by people since no two of us are alike….

          • Fear The Magic says:

Stephen ANY respectible judge would throw your case ( in this situation ) out of the court based on YOUR Circumstantial evidence. You have absolutely no idea that his intent was to actually injure Westbrook and even you know this to be true although Im sure you’d never admit that.

          • Sam Philbeck says:

My comment would’ve been the same, he shouldve been kicked out of the game and the refs blew the call cause he wasn’t. There is no way his intentions were to hurt Westbrook, be very aggressive yes, but do I believe his intentions were to hurt him? No. Do stand by the same rhetoric when an OU player is called for targeting? Cause let’s act like that has never happened before. Joseph from what I’ve seen is a aggressive player, but not a dirty player. He’s not a Shawn Oakman or a player like Ahmad Dixon who was a safety like Joseph and was ejected numerous times for blatant dirty acts. Those were guys who’s intent was to hurt players. Get off your high horse, you picked West Virginia to win anyways, so don’t start defending OU when you picked against them.

          • guest says:

I don’t believe Joseph had the intention to injure any one. Maybe he did and maybe he didn’t. It’s an opinion, not a fact. Westbrook is only 165lbs, so naturally the collision was violent. But nothing in Joseph’s college career would point to your conclusion, and he had a professional career in his sights and players now know teams factor your behavior and character before drafting you. Even if Westbrook had suffered a concussion or broken neck, it wouldn’t prove your assertion. Bob Stoops said the game environment is in a state of “controlled rage”. It is a very aggressive sport. Bad things happen, mistakes happen when you are running full speed in “body armor”. I have no knowledge regarding Oakman’s play. I think you’re shooting from the hip on this one rather than taking aim.

          • Stephen Dale says:

guest : since you referenced Shawn Oakman’s play last year, he speared an already fallen Trevor Knight. Knight was knocked out of the game yet Oakman received no penalty. Whether he was penalized or not, most who saw the play termed it a dirty play. And, yes, you are entitled to your opinion as I am mine…….

          • guest says:

I didn’t mean to offend you…we are on the same Sooner side, you know – as you say, we have different perspectives, which is why we learn from each other. I remember the Oakman play on Knight. I thought it was stupid and overly-aggressive by OU standards. But I doubt Oakman went into the game saying, “I hope I break someone’s neck today.”

          • Stephen Dale says:

no offense taken. I’m enjoying the discussion. As for Oakman’s intentions : I do believe he hit Trevor Knight with the intention of hurting him–which he did– so as to knock him out of the game and make it easier for Baylor to win……..as for the upcoming game, I hope it will be injury free and OU wins convincingly ; although I suspect it will be a close game deep into the 4th Q.

        • Rick says:

Good assessment. I never want the dirty players to be hurt, and there is a fine line between “very aggressive” and dirty. Joseph’s hit was outside the scope of the rules, ref’s fault for not catching it. Shawn Oakman imnsho is a thug with a helmet and jersey. I felt the shot that put Trevor out last year was a cheap shot. Looked to me Trevor was down, and Oakman hit him in the upper back while he was on the ground. Again no call, refs fault. I would advocated an after the fact video foul, when the action was heinous. and the call on the field was missed. I would never, ever, ever advocate physical retaliation, the player needs to be disciplined, ejected, suspended etc., but never ever hurt intentionally.

          • Sam Philbeck says:

            Rick,

I completely agree with your assessment of Oakman, now that is a dirty player. I’ve never thought of Joseph as a dirty player, overhyped at times? yeah, but I’ve always thought he was a terrific player in the conference. I never thought his hit was intentional like Oakman’s hit on Trevor was IMO.

          • Dick Bump says:

I thought it was a cheap shot also. The play was over and he was definitely down.

    • Tulsa Terry says:

Karl Joseph of WVU and Ryan Simmons of OSU both down for the count as senior leaders of the defense. Hate to see that but it happens.

  • Golfluvr13 says:

I could watch that Millard hurdle over and over and over all day long.

    • hOUligan says:

      The Millard ‘jump truck’!!! Absolutely!

      • Golfluvr13 says:

Love the way the DB bounces off the ground from the stiff arm while he’s in the air too. I remember that like it was yesterday.

    • Eric Hoffpauir says:

One day for my Sooner room I’d like to get a digital picture frame and load the jump truck on there as a repeating GIF.

    • Slim Sooner says:

I’d love to see a repeat of that this week with Mixon doing the honors!

      • Golfluvr13 says:

        Oh heck yeah!

      • RBear says:

I just know this guy is gonna bust loose some time soon… I can feel it.

        • EasTex says:

Having watched the wvu game many, many times I have come away more impressed each time the jump cut Mixon made in the hole on his TD run.

          • SoonerOracle737 says:

The jump cut was amazing considering his size. But when he turned on the jets and outran the two WVU defenders – that impressed the heck out of me. I went back and freeze framed it to see what really happened. He simply outran them with an amazing burst of speed.

  • EasTex says:

Very nice interview on Sooner Playbook last night, Tim Lashar and Austin Seibert.

    • Golfluvr13 says:

I was wondering about those blue shoes, seriously. I wanted to know why he didn’t have some crimson on them! That is a good interview, nice to see him talking about the nervous feeling he had when he first stepped on the field. This kid is very calm and cool!

My brother, @disqus_miBD520dSk:disqus won’t be there this year so that means I will be surrounded by our family full of texas fans solo. Thank God we will unleash an ungodly beating upon them and leave them in shock and silence. BOOMER!

Once a very heavily recruited DB by OU Tee Shepard has decided to retire from football.

  • Felix Fuentes says:

Has Johnson &; Perkins been ruled out?

  • HoustonChiver says:

Isn’t Johnson the Texas receiver who continually drops passes? I liked him.

  • KJ1123 says:

I wonder if Jay looks at his burnt orange polo and cringes everytime he has to put it on.

  • KJ1123 says:

Someone was asking me about JT, CW and Bond earlier. Looks like Bond is most likely out for this week. JT and CW are playing.

    • SoonerfanTU says:

Bummer about Bond, but we shouldn’t really need him in this game.

      • KJ1123 says:

True, with no more bye weeks the staff will have to pick and choose what games they really need their impact players for if they’re injured.

      • guest says:

Hopefully, Obo has learned a lot from last week. He has all the tools to be a playmaker.

    • Zack says:

To be honest JT is the only one needed hopefully. Bigger fall off right now between him and PJ, than walker and any of the DTs and bond to obo.
Hope this game is as easy as it should be on paper. Tcu put 50 on them, I think we’re better than tcu so we should be able to hang 50.

  • Fear The Magic says:

Samaje will go down as one of my all time favorite Sooners not for what he accomplishes on the field but who his as a person on and off. What a mature and selfless young man. That kid was certainly brought up well.

  • trusoonerA53 says:

My favorite Texsa moment will always be when Mr. Stryker introduced himself to McCoy help me see my feet before I hit the ground, it was just wrong he was removed from the game and it was a clean hit I need to see a Texsa qb do that one more time. BOOMER

  • KJ1123 says:

If this ends up being a blowout….the State Fair may be around longer than Charlie.

    • Robertson / Robertson 2016 says:

Imagine his walk of shame: vendors closing shop in succession. Participants parting to either side, standing stone-faced and pointing to the exit. He reaches the gate where a mother weeps while juggling her child: “Why? Why, Mr. Strong? We trusted you. We believed in you.”

      Strong: “But I…”

Mother: [Places finger to Charlie’s lips]. “Just go.”

Mother removes finger from Strong’s face. Where it was is a line of mustard.

    • metzker says:

Everyone keeps talking blow out i think tesax is a dangerous team and we best not take them lightly

      • Golfluvr13 says:

Yep, the last time we were this big of a favorite we got our butts handed to us.

        • Brad Warren says:

Let it go. It will set you free. Lol. Geez man, we’re going to kill texas.

          • Golfluvr13 says:

I’m not hanging on to it at all. I am just acknowledging that despite what the shorthorns have done this year, they are capable of winning. Any team, any day… I do not think we will lose and I do not think it will be close, but there is always a chance.

        • Slim Sooner says:

Past history, Golf. Doesn’t mean squat for this year. Sooners will be aware and take care of business!!

          • Golfluvr13 says:

LOL! I just hate to be overconfident. I expect that THIS years team is not looking past the shorthorns.

      • Rick says:

My opinion that it will be a blow out is based on the talk coming out of OUr team leaders, seems their attitude is exactly where it needs to be, They say they are preparing for a 5-0 team, ranked in the top 10. I think it will be a severe butt whoopin.

  • Rick says:

From the standpoint of the conference, I hope Texas keeps Charlie. I do think, he is a good coach. I don’t think he took the time to examine the NCAA rules surrounding Lampkin, to me, his case was cut and dried, he came off looking like a jerk, maybe he is, but apathy doesn’t seem to be one of his faults. I think he will eventually get the shorthorn ship righted, I don’t know if the Texas team owners will give him the chance. I always relished the years that OU beat Texas when both were good, or even when Texas seemed better, was getting more love in the media than OU was. Those to me are sweet victories. The outright arrogance of shorthorns makes any victory good, some are just better. This year, I have no doubt, the score won’t be close, the stadium will be only 1/2 full at half time, with only crimson colors left in the stands, and OUr team will be 5-0 leaving the stadium.

  • HoustonChiver says:

IDK if it’s just me, but I am extremely nervous about this RRR game. As Tapper said, Texas has nothing to lose, they could come out slinging bombs and pick on us in the deep route category.

I think we win, but not by more than a closer-than-it-seems- 17 points.

  • Justin Morgans says:

My Fellow Sooners PLEASE HELP ME OUT HERE. This will be my first Red River game Im 31 and have dreamed about it since a kid. My issue is I don’t know to try and park at the Fair or take the DART system in Dallas. Im driving down from Tulsa and leaving around 3 AM Saturday is that enough time. All suggestions and advise is appreciated.
    -Justin

    • MoJoOkie says:

I’ve always used the Dart system, but the wife has family in Allen.

    • Fear The Magic says:

Justin you’re 31? I have to say you look really young for your age!

    • HoustonChiver says:

Dart! Parking at the fair is not the worst, but trying to get out of there is not fun

    • EasTex says:

      Take the DART train.

    • KJ1123 says:

I’ve never used Dart so I may try it. Or Uber if all else fails.

      • EasTex says:

The crappy cab drivers that couldn’t keep their taxi permits are now driving for Uber in Dallas.

        • KJ1123 says:

Really? Well that’s not good. Hmm may have to just use Dart then.

          • EasTex says:

In the span of three days we learned an Uber driver raped a female passenger and that one of their drivers had multiple felony convictions and served many years in prison. Cab and limo drivers in Dallas can’t have a felony conviction. Uber is a terrible business model, anyway.
When it comes to going to the State Fair, park at one of the many DART park and ride locations and take the train. Best bang for the buck.

          • KJ1123 says:

Geez that’s terrible. Thanks E i’ll check it out.

          • SoonerGoneEast says:

You’re a Sooner, drive right up to the front door like you own that sumbi—!

          • KJ1123 says:

            I WOULD…but Im flying in…no car….guess I’ll just walk up like I own it!

          • EasTex says:

            Which airport?

          • KJ1123 says:

            Love

          • EasTex says:

I generally try and avoid that place, but the DART train runs right beside it. Check their website, they may have a train stop there.

          • KJ1123 says:

Oh ok cool I definitely will check it out. Thanks E.

          • Boom says:

            Curious, why do avoid Love.

          • EasTex says:

Without writing a book it isn’t even supposed to be open to commercial air traffic by the agreement between Dallas and Ft. Worth to build D/FW Intl. because SW found a federal judge to rule in their favor.
I hate everything about SW airlines, their attitude and their business practices too include their numerous massive fines for safety violations. In addition, the airport is owned and operated by the city of Dallas…don’t even get me started with what’s wrong there.

          • Boom says:

interesting, my wife is a SW flight attendant for 25 years. I’m sure glad Delta, American, & all the others haven’t paid massive fines for safety violations too. City is making a mint off of that place. Sorry you feel that way brother.

          • EasTex says:

Being so up close to them with their HQ being here, there is lots to not like about SW and the field of Love.
To my knowledge SW is the only airline to be fined for using cheap, knock off spare parts that were not approved by either Boeing or the FAA.

          • jimintexas says:

I don’t know the details, but according to Dart they have buses that take you back and forth to the station, which just across the runways from Love

      • Dick Bump says:

Dart from Lewisville drops you right in front of the gate. $5 per day. I haven’t tried it on game day. Might be a tad busy.

        • jimintexas says:

They had a disaster, one of the first years of Dart. Since then, they add trains and streamline the Green line between downtown and Fair Park

Unless you arrive at the Fairgrounds at 6am and leave the fairgrounds well after dark, it is better to take DART. (Unless UT fans don’t show up or leave early) …Anyways, Enjoy the entire day!

I live in NE Tarrant county (Colleyville area) and we use the Dart from Carrolton. Coming from Tulsa, you would probably start at 75 and Parker Road. I pay through my Go Pass application on my iPhone. You can print a map from the Dart site. It is hassle free and you can talk to other fans from both sides. You will change to the Green train, down town.

You have the option of getting off and eating at places along the way, and getting back on. I ride the Green line, from Carrolton (I-35), so can’t help you with food option a lot on other lines. I think it saves time and the expense of parking. But even if it does not save those two, the reduced hassle is worth it, to me

i’d say take the DART. and stay off I35 E ( auth barry Tramel )…
