LB Curtis Bolton Out For Season Opener Against Houston

Oklahoma HC Bob Stoops announced following Wednesday’s practice that redshirt sophomore LB Curtis Bolton will miss the team’s season opener against Houston. Bolton suffered a strain to his patellar tendon which will force him to miss the game.

Linebacker depth and experience was already an issue for the Sooners heading into this season and while Bolton has only played sparingly thus far, he had been running with the second team and would have been likely to see the field prior to this knee injury.

Geeze, too many of these too early. Is this similar to what happened against k state last year?

  • RBear says:

OK, we’re done with this kind of news

Hope this is not the start of a trend. It’s like injuries run in streaks. Dang.

  • Higgs Boson says:

I’m not worried. Tin soldiers and Mixon’s coming.

  • Lane Gilstrap says:

He probably wasn’t going to play anyways. His best chance is against Lousiana Monroe

    • SooperDave says:

I have a feeling that when he is healthy, he is gonna play a lot more than you think. He sure seemed to be flying around during the spring game.

  • Sooner Ray says:

Fingers crossed, knocking on wood, kissing babies, we have a good group of starters.

    • Gary Robbins says:

Lots of injuries seems like. Curtis Bolton, Alex Dalton, Bobby Evans, Matt Romar, Mykel Jones, Christian Daimler and probably more. Not all starters but would be on the field.

      • Sooner Ray says:

Yeah, there will always be some dings in this game, we are just fortunate to this point that our 1’s are still good to go.

        • Fear The Magic says:

          Shhhhhh…

        • Gary Robbins says:

Someone asked this question the other day. When does the OU coaches announce a starting line-up? I don’t guess they have to. will just have to reply on our in-house spies.

          • Sooner Ray says:

If they actually release on, I would expect it on game week. Most likely the day of Bob’s first presser.

          • BoomerShauner says:

Should be on Monday or Tuesday after Bob does his “game-day press conference”. I don’t remember which day it was moved to last year. Him and Gundy both had theirs on the same day till I’m sure the media threw a hissy fit because there are guys that go to both. But to answer your question, it’s usually the beginning of the first game week. So, here in just a few short days!!! BOOMER!

      • Tim A says:

Did not know about Mykel Jones. Serious injury?

      • D Hunter Sanchez says:

        Jones and Romar will play.

    • Rick says:

Are you kidding me Ray. OUr qb (and the rest of the team) just got overlooked for all of the national awards. History tells us Baker’s gonna come out SMOKIN! He just got dissed after the year he had. Perine and Mixon, hardly a mention. Most of the media has written us off.. I’m thinking we’ ll do VERY well this year.

      • Sooner Ray says:

We will do well, I was just being thankful that our no. 1 group is still strong. Our depth, other than Anderson, should be back soon.

        • Rick says:

I don’t wish any ill will on Bolton at all, but with all the young LBs on the team, I think some of them might get a chance to take a giant step forward.

          • Tony B says:

I feel the same and wish a speedy recovery for Bolton. I have been wanting to see what the Hulk can do in there (especially against the run) though so this may be that opportunity for him.

  • Docknoss says:

Stop freaking out everyone, it’s not a major injury he’ll be back to 100% soon.

  • Ed Cotter says:

    Get better soon Curtis!

  • Sacramento Sooner says:

I look back all day for any breaking news…this was not what I was hoping to see. Last one for the season!

  • RonBurgundy says:

goal for the year….Keep the QB healthy ..

  • Tim A says:

Damn! Have a bad feeling about injuries this year – way too many so early. Minor or not – they miss reps at minimum.

    • Sooner Ray says:

I actually expected Murray to give it a shot.

      • Mark_in_VA says:

I think Farrar was insistent on that, too. I think both Miss (or MSU? Whichever it was) and OU had to assure him he’d be allowed to play both. So no surprises at all.

  • D Hunter Sanchez says:

    Injury bug this year?

  • CrimsonNative says:

I’m watching the tOSU vs. Michigan game from last year on ESPNU. They are going to be a really tough team to beat. I’m glad Elliott isn’t there anymore.

    No more of this please.

    Eh….not thrilled by this

Five-star defensive back Jeffrey Okudah began the summer with plans to announce his commitment in August.

As the 6-foot-2, 197-pound versatile defensive back got closer to crunch time, the No. 8 prospect in the Class of 2017 decided to go through the official visit process before casting his lot with one of his six finalists: Ohio State, Clemson, Oklahoma, Florida State, USC and Georgia with Oho State remaining the favorite.

“Out of my top six schools, I know I will be officially visiting Ohio State, Florida State, Clemson and Oklahoma for sure,” Okudah said on Tuesday.

The No. 2 prospect in the Lone Star State has visit dates for Oklahoma (Sept. 17 for the Sooners showdown with Ohio State) and Florida State (Oct. 29 for the Seminoles game vs. Clemson) and is working to finalize plans for Clemson and Ohio State.

“I’m working on a Clemson visit right now, but it will probably sometime in November, and Ohio State for the Michigan game possibly,” he said.

The Buckeyes, Sooners and Tigers were the three programs Okudah mentioned most.

On Oklahoma: “They are real close to home and compete for national championships. I kind of have a little brotherhood going on with the guys in the SoonerSquad class. Those SoonerSquad guys are recruiting me all the time.”

On Clemson: “[Defensive coordinator Brent Venables], I kind of see him as a defensive mastermind. And [defensive backs coach Michael Reed], he’s a great technical coach. When your athletic ability is evened out, then your technique will last a long time. He has done that with DBs at Clemson. It’s a family vibe with coach Swinney over there.

On Ohio State: “They are still my leader. They are recruiting me the hardest and have really got close to my family, my coaches and my trainer. They have been giving me the all-out, full-court recruitment for the longest. They have given me the full-court recruitment even though they have the No. 1 class with a lot of really good players.”

The official visit process will be paramount for Okudah and his family, especially as it relates to life after football.

“Right now, I’ve seen a lot of the football stuff with all the schools,” he said. “You can’t really go wrong selecting one of those schools, so it’s now about the academics and life outside of football so I can make something of myself. After I take all my official visits with the Michigan-Ohio State game being my last official visit if that works out, then I will sit down with my family and look at the pros and cons of everything. We will come up with a consensus. What plan can I have set for outside of football is big.”

Okudah reiterated Tuesday that the six schools were his finalists, and that in-state powers Texas and Texas A&M were out of the mix.

Someone find and smash that injury bug.

  • CS says:

Man, I saw “Out for season….. ” and I was bummed out, luckily it is only the opener, hopefully.

Can someone change the title to “Out for opener…. ” 😉
